Chapter 1: chap. 01 - actually, I do need you

Chapter Text

(Set during the time when Enid meant to move out of their dorm)

Wednesday was alone. 'Finally', she thought. It was a silent night, everything was dark, except for the full moon shining brightly in the night sky. She was resting her elbows on the railing to her room's balcony. Looking down, she saw the dark, almost unsettling tree-tops of the forest that surrounded Nevermore. It was almost too quiet, she thought, having long become accustomed to her overly loud roommate. Things had changed. Before she came here, Wednesday would've appreciated the silence, enjoyed it even. Before she wouldn't have given a second thought about anything regarding this. But now? Now she could almost feel herself admitting that she missed the loud wolf girl.

They had fought, horribly, just an hour ago, causing Enid to run out of their room and even request a room change with Ms. Thornhill. Though, Wednesday wasn't sure if she meant it. Ever since Enid left she would keep coming back, having "forgotten" small unimportant items, like the one bottle of nail polish she never even used.

'Why am I even second-guessing this' Wednesday looked up for a moment, just to all of a sudden see Enid standing beside her. She wasn't directly next to her but close enough. The girl was holding onto the balcony rail, not saying a single word. 'Probably for the first time in her life', Wednesday mentally commented, having the manners not to say it out loud. She hated to admit it, but she was glad Enid came back to her. Of course she would've preferred torture over admitting that out loud.

"You know", Enid started, looking into the sky and carefully searching for her next words. "You know you can be a bitch sometimes, right? Making people become attached to you, just to completely shut them out because they aren't important to you anymore. You know that's really selfish, right? I know you're not the most empathic person which is fine, you know, but you don't have to be such a bitch about it." A tear started to roll down Enid's eye and Wednesday was bracing herself for what was about to come. After all it was Enid she was talking to.

"Not only are you selfish and unempathetic, no you have to be a bitch about it too. High and mighty Wednesday on her high horse. You know, you would actually make me so sick if I didn't know you? You heard me. I know you. I've figured you out. It was hard, trust me, but I have. And you wanna know what I realized through this? Not even deep down do you care. You care about no one, but yourself. I hate you so much Wednesday Addams, you know that?" Once again silence had returned, only Enid's light sobbing could be heard.

"You know what bothers me most about this, Addams?" Wednesday didn't return anything. She didn't reply, she didn't even look at Enid. She just stood and listened. "I still found myself all day just thinking about you. Thinking about wanting to come back here, thinking about why it would be so painful for me to be that far from you when you're such a horrible person. I kept trying to tell myself. 'You're better than this, Enid', 'You don't need her, Enid.', 'You're strong and independent, Enid.', 'You have other friends, Enid'. All that. And still, I'm back here and I don't know if I hate myself or you more for it. I hate you so much, Wednesday Addams. I hate you, I hate you, I hate you."

Enid was shocked, to feel Wednesday suddenly hold onto her hand. She hadn't even noticed the girl coming closer to her. Especially she would've never expected the other girl to initiate any kind of contact with someone unless she got something out of it. Which made her realize that Wednesday might care after all. If just in her weird, kooky way, but she cared.

Or maybe she did get something out of it. Maybe she did feel just as bad as Enid did and just maybe this was her way of apologizing. They remained silent, no more words needing to be spoken. All that needed to be said had been said. All that needed to be done had been done. Maybe, just for once, they could enjoy staring into the night sky together, silently.

Chapter 2: chap. 02 - you need to calm down

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Enid was confused, everything was happening so fast. Her hair was all over the place, her uniform was uneven, her tie just loosely hanging over her shoulders. "Wednesday, what am I supposed to do? This wasn't supposed tp happen so quickly." She was nervous, rightfully so. Enid was walking up and down their room, almost driving Wednesday nuts.

"Sinclair," she spoke, "Calm down. You'll wake the dead with your heavy footsteps." Enid stopped walking around, but was still nervously twitching. She was pulling at her hair, playing with her fingers and looking through the room quickly. "I just don't know what to do. Why is this happening to me. How do I survive this?" Wednesday got up from her desk and stood opposite from Enid.

"You might want to start by fixing your uniform. We still have classes in the afternoon." Enid didn't even seem to listen, which is why Wednesday took the tie from Enid's shoulders and carefully started tying it around the nervous' girl's neck. "Wednesday, please. There has to be something I can do to figure this out. This can't just be impossible." Wednesday didn't reply, instead just continuing to tie Enid's tie.

"Hey, you're doing this a bit tight, Addams. I know you have dreams of torturing people but this really isn't the moment, don't you th-" Enid was cut off by Wednesday slowly pulling her face closer by her tie. "What do you think you're doing, Addams?" Enid sounded unsure and maybe even more nervous. Instead of giving a reply Wednesday just put a finger to her lips, motioning for Enid to shush.

They stood there like that for a moment, just looking at each other. Analyzing each other's facial features and just staring deeply into one another's eyes. "Wednesday, wha-" Enid was about to speak up again, but stopped when Wednesday kissed her. She was shocked at first, sure, but after just a moment Enid started to lean into it, feeling a new kind of comfort in the other girl's presence. A smile slowly forming on her lips.

Bonus (Mood change):
Enid is nervous because she bought tickets to the last Loona concert and couldn't decide what to wear.

Notes:

Yes I'm headcannoning that Enid is a kpoppie. Especially considering Emma is.

Also yes, I'm a Swiftie.

Chapter 3: chap. 03 - that'll be enough

Chapter Text

Wednesday sat at her desk, writing her novel as usual. Enid sat on her lap, hugging her tightly, trying to get the most out of the little time Wednesday allowed her to touch her. She had her head laying on Wednesday's shoulder, taking in the scent of the girl's perfume.

"Enid, I think that'll be enough." Wednesday stopped typing for a moment, motioning the girl to get off. "I don't think so." Enid simply didn't budge. Wednesday sighed. She needed to pretend she wasn't loving this, not in the slightest.

She waited another moment for Enid to get off, but she didn't. Wednesday just continued typing. Both of them secretly enjoying their victory. "Weds, when do you think your novel will be done?" Enid had laid her head back down on Wednesday's shoulder, almost being too muffled to be heard. "I'm uncertain at this moment." Wednesday quickly continued typing, not paying Enid's question another thought.

"Do you think you'll be done soon?" Enid continued, carefully tightening her grip around Wednesday's torso. When Wednesday didn't reply even after a few minutes had passed Enid asked again. "You think you'll be done soon?" Wednesday sighed again, wondering why the other girl needed to know so badly. "I'm not sure yet", Wednesday replied calmly, contrary to her annoyed-sounding sighs.

"Why do you need to know so badly?" Wednesday finally voiced the thought that had been lingering on her mind. Enid also wrapped her legs around Wednesday's torso before replying. "We barely get to do anything anymore. There's always something in the way. You know how affectionate I am. I just want to lay and rest with you sometimes, without either of us doing anything."

Wednesday thought about it for a moment, seemingly chewing through each word her girlfriend had said. "There'll be enough time to rest when we're dead." Enid's smile dropped from her face. 'Typical', she thought. She almost let the girl's reply go to her head but decided not to. This was who Wednesday was after all.

The warmth Wednesday gave off (for once) helped Enid calm down and she picked up her head and started playing with one of Wednesday's braids.

Suddenly the typing noises stopped and Enid turned her head around to see Wednesday closing up her type-writer. "Alright." Wednesday simply stated, before holding onto Enid and getting up. She walked across their room and laid down on Enid's large bed, just staying still.

"Thank you, Addams", Enid whispered, laying her head back down next to Wednesday's. Wednesday could've sworn it didn't take five minutes before she heard the girl in her arms starting to snore softly.

Chapter 4: chap. 04 - on the gray scale

Chapter Text

Ever since Wednesday could remember her world had been gray. Well, black and white. Really, it had just been colorless. Even the flowers or fancy dresses people spoke of were just gray and bland to her. Nothing sparked her interest, nothing seemed to have a pull on her. Of course, there were things that genuinely did interest her. Her novels to name just one example. Also, of course, torture and suffering and really everything that would upset her mother. However even with those interests things just seemed bland and everything she didn't necessarily prefer to do just seemed like something that had to be done, something that would just pass by her, not affecting her in anyway. Shortly, for Wednesday everything seemed to just have different shades of gray.

When her parents just mentioned sending her to Nevermore boarding school Wednesday almost felt everything become a shade darker. She had dreaded the day they would finally find an excuse to send her there. The school both her parents had attended and the school where especially her mother had outshone everything and everyone in everything she did. Winning at fencing and being in the school's secret society. She had done everything and Wednesday was sure people would hold it over her head.

"Do I have to? I promise I'll even kill one less person a year if you send me to normie school again. Mother, please." Wednesday begged nicely, probably for the first time in her life. She did not want to attend that school and she was going to do everything in her power to get out of it. The court-ordered therapy sessions seemed like a good window for her to escape if she shouldn't convince her parents not to send her there in the first place. She was sure, by the time she got there, she would've figured out plenty of ways to escape. How hard could it be? What could possibly keep her there?

It didn't take long before they arrived at Nevermore, soon entering the principals office. "The Addams family! I've been patiently awaiting your arrival." A tall lady stood up from a desk in the center of the room, greeting Wednesday and her family with a smile. "Wednesday, this is Larissa Weems, my old roommate and now the principal at Nevermore. Say hello." Morticia Addams, Wednesday's mother motioned toward the tall woman, returning the warm smile she had been greeted with. "Hello." Wednesday didn't try to hide being unpleased with her situation. "Welcome, I'm sure you'll love it here."

Wednesday offered no reply in return. "You'll be staying in one of our largest dorm with a roommate." Principal Weems explained, still smiling. Wednesday looked at the woman, looking at her formal clothing, but yet boldly applied make-up. Wednesday thought it was funny. She was sure the principal's bright red lipstick might appear shining to other people but to her just another shade of gray. Just like everything else. The colorful sunset she could see from her window every evening? Gray. The bright roses her mother kept in her winter garden? Gray. Even her own image depicted in any mirror. Just gray. Everything was bland. Wednesday was sure she wouldn't even have noticed had people around her not constantly talked about how exciting and colorful the world can be. From rainbows to flowers, to- she wasn't even sure. People were just excited about everything.

"I'm sure you'll love Enid. She's among our brightest students and honestly just a delight to be around." Wednesday hadn't even noticed that principal Weems had continued to talk, but didn't care either way. She wasn't going to be here for long anyway so it didn't really matter whoever this Enid person was as long as she didn't interfere with Wednesday's plans.

"I think Ms. Thornhill will be here in a minute to accompany you to your room. She will be your dorm-mom and you will talk to her about any problems that might occur in your dorm hall. Whatever it may be." As soon as principal Weems had finished talking, someone started knocking on her door before slowly entering. "Speak of the devil." Principal Weems looked at the woman that just came through the door. She was relatively short, had red hair and wore thick glasses. She seemed generally inconspicuous. Wednesday probably wouldn't have noticed her in a passing crowd. What did seem interesting about her was the flower she was carrying.

"You must be Wednesday!" She seemed delighted. Ew. "I like to give every new student a flower that appears to be fitting with them. This is the bla-", Wednesday interrupted her. "The black Dalia. Like my favorite unsolved murder case." The red haired woman, Ms. Thornhill nodded. Wednesday nodded. "Seems like I was right about this flower, huh?" Ms. Thornhill smiled at Wednesday, giving her the flower.

Wednesday and Ms. Thornhill were walking toward Wednesday's new dorm, having left Wednesday's family behind. "So, what are you most excited for?" Ms. Thornhill tried to make friendly conversation. "Getting out of here." Wednesday replied truthfully, making Ms. Thornhill uncomfortable. "Yeah, sure." They stayed silent for the rest of the walk.

"Here we are. The room is quite large so no need to worry about the space." Ms. Thornhill knocked on the door, before entering the same way she had the principal's office. Slowly and careful. "Enid? I have your new roommate here, who is very excited to meet you." Ms. Thornhill stepped aside and motioned for Wednesday to come on. 'Liar', was Wednesday's last thought before stepping into the room.

The room was almost blinding to her eyes. She's never felt this before. After her eyes had adjusted, she looked around until her eyes landed on a blonde girl about the same height as her. Never had anyone caught Wednesday's gaze like that. Suddenly all the colors were bright and shining. Suddenly everything made sense to Wednesday. Everything the people had been talking about. All the exciting colors, the weird feelings in her stomach.

Maybe this school wouldn't be so gray after all.

Chapter 5: chap. 05 - u up?

Summary:

Enid can't sleep and goes to Wednesday for comfort.

Chapter Text

Enid tossed and turned. Sweating and shivering at the same time. Breathing heavily, her face expressing the pain she was feeling. "No! Please", she could be heard mumbling. This continued on for a while before she finally awakened, almost jumping up from her bed. 'Not again' she thought, referring to her reoccurring nightmares. Ever since the fight with Tyler she's been having horrible nightmares almost every night.

She slowly laid back down, re-fluffing her pillow in the hopes to be more comfortable this time.

Enid was sure an incredible amount of time must have passed, but no matter what she did she couldn't fall asleep anymore. It was only 3 in the morning so still too early to just give in and fully get up. "What do I do now?" She whispered to herself, holding her knees.

She was scared. Shadows seemed to be moving toward her, every sound made her twitch and the air seemed unnecessarily cold.

Slowly, she got up and made her way over to Wednesday. "Nes, are you awake?" Enid whispered, looking down at Wednesday's sleeping body. She got no response. "Nes?" Enid tried asking once more and still go no reply. She turned around once more contemplating to just try to fall asleep in her bed again, but decided against it. Instead she carefully laid down next to Wednesday.

The black-haired girl slept like she was in a coffin, but Enid had no problem to hug the girl and lay her head against her arm.

Unknown to Enid Wednesday was actually awake and her face was burning up, rarely having felt this nervous. She wanted to move, but decided against it. She had a reputation to uphold after all. Only when she silently heard Enid sniffling did she decide to turn around and pull the girl closer.

"Nes?" Enid asked once more, but Wednesday just carefully shushed her. "Shh, it's okay." Enid hid her face in Wednesday's arms, the tears starting to stream down her face faster and faster. "I didn't think this would mess me up so badly", she silently told Wednesday, holding onto the girl tighter.

Suddenly loud thunder sounded and Enid quivered badly, trying to get even closer to Wednesday. "Ned, I'm scared", she said in-between loud sobs. Wednesday held Enid's chin, looking her deeply into her eyes. She brushed the girl's short hair behind her ear and carefully gave her a peck on the forehead. "You'll be alright", Wednesday whispered, slowly starting to carefully scratch behind the scared girl's ear, instantly calming her down. "Thank you, Nes." Enid mumbled as her breath slowed down, starting to drift off to sleep.

Wednesday smiled, if just lightly, never having felt safer with anyone. She gave Enid another kiss on the forehead before she could feel her own eyelid's flutter shut.

Bonus (mood change):
"Guys, look at this." Yoko pulled out her phone, showing a picture to Bianca and Eugene. "Is that-?" Bianca couldn't believe her eyes. "That's literally Wednesday being affectionate. I went to ask Enid something earlier this morning and literally found them like this. I'm so going to black-mail Wednesday with this." They all laughed together. "What's going on?" Enid appeared behind Yoko, happy and smiling as always. "Nothing." Yoko quickly put her phone away, secretly giggling.

Chapter 6: chap. 06 - hey, look at me

Summary:

Aftermath of the fight. Enid has complicated feelings and Wednesday starts showing emotional warmth.

Chapter Text

Wednesday was laying on the cold stone floor of Crackstone's tomb. The tomb that was about to become her very own. The knife in her stomach burned more and more as Wednesday felt weaker and weaker, second by second. She could physically feel her strength leaving her body, barely being able to keep her eyes open anymore. So, this was just going to be it? All the plans she had made, all the ambitions she had to follow, all the people she still had to torture. All that would just go to waste?

She could feel hear own breathing growing weaker just as the pool of blood around her was growing by the second. Everything was silent when suddenly she heard a crackling noise outside. It almost sounded like footsteps. "Enid?", she called out, hoping to see the bright girl's smile one last time. Though, before the person could reveal themselves Wednesday had passed out, presumably to never awaken again. Her last thought being of the bubbly blonde.

-

"Thank, you. I'll take care of it." Wednesday could faintly hear a familiar voice. She tried opening her eyes but the room seemed so bright. It took her a few tries to get used to the light, before barely being able to make out a familiar face in front of her. "Enid?" Wednesday's voice was raspy and it hurt her to speak. Enid turned around, looking at Wednesday with a concerned look. "You're awake! Finally! I was so scared I lost you." Wednesday was sure a tear started to roll down from Enid's eye. "What-", she went to speak up once more but Enid shushed her. "I'd rather you rest. As much as I appreciate you actually talking to me I'd prefer if you healed first." Wednesday nodded in reply.

"I'm assuming you're curious about what happened." Enid sighed and brushed some of Wednesday's hair behind her ear. "So after Ms. Thornhill or whatever her name was in the end freed Crackstone and stabbed you they both came to the school and went on a mission to take out as many outcasts as they could. You probably wouldn't believe it even if you had seen with your own eyes. It was just-" Enid continued to talk for a while and Wednesday would've really tried to listen if she didn't drift in and out of consciousness.

"And that's how we landed here. Just before you woke up Eugene dropped off a jar of honey for your throat and told me to feed you a spoon every once in a while." Wednesday stared at Enid, taking in all her little details. The girl had blood in her hair and on her clothes and face and even a few wounds that looked really painful. Yet, she was here, taking care of Wednesday. "Alright, now that you're awake I'm going to disinfect some of your wounds. This might hurt." Wednesday was almost able to crack a small smile. "Good." Enid frowned in return. "You're unbelievable."

"Thank you", Wednesday still sounded weak, but at least she was able to stay awake now. "What happened to everyone else? Did the school call my parents?" Enid scratched her neck, seeming nervous. "As far as I know most of the others are fine besides some minor injuries. Regarding your parents I'm not sure. Principal Weems tried to contact them, but couldn't get a hold of anybody. I'm sure they are fine though. Like, you know how strong they are, right? Maybe the power just cut out, or-", Wednesday cut Enid off. "It's fine."

Enid felt sorry for Wednesday. She knew the girl would never admit it, but she must've been really worried about her parents. "I'm really sorry, Wednesday. I know-", Wednesday again interrupted her: "I said it's fine."

It almost hurt Enid, having Wednesday snap back at her so harshly, but she was quickly able to forgive the girl, considering what they had just been through. "I'm sorry." Enid never thought she would hear Wednesday say those words. "I'm sorry, Enid." A small smile appeared on Enid's lips. "Don't worry about it."

-

It had been a few weeks since everything had happened, but it was still the only thing anyone would talk or think about. Even Enid who constantly had a million things on her mind, suddenly felt empty. She was standing in front of the large mirror on her wall, carefully examining her face in it. She hated the scars she had been left with. Of course, she didn't regret stepping in to save Wednesday, the small girl was her whole world after all, but she couldn't help just hating the scars it left her with, with everything she had. She could feel herself almost start to cry which is why she turned around to go lay in her bed. Though, Enid was only able to take one step before she bumped into Wednesday.

"What's wrong?" The fight had changed her, she slowly started inquiring about Enid's feelings and well being every so often now. An overall welcome change Enid had thought, but maybe a bit uncomfortable when she was actually on the verge of crying. "Nothing", she forced out, but her voice was obviously shaking.

"Enid", Wednesday carefully held Enid's face with one hand, holding Enid's hand with the other. "What's wrong?" Wednesday asked once more, this time looking directly into Enid's eyes. "I-", Enid started, but couldn't bring herself to continue her sentence. Instead, big tears started rolling down her cheeks. "I just-", she tried once more, but just ended up sobbing even harder. "Shh, it's okay." Wednesday tried calming the girl down as best as she could.

She carefully led Enid to her bed, sitting down beside her, never letting go of the girl's hand. "Take your time," Wednesday whispered, stroking over Enid's hand with her thumb. "My scars," Enid finally spoke, tears still rolling down her face. "My scars just make me feel so ugly. Every time I look at myself in the mirror I just feel hatred." She paused, taking a break to breathe. "I'm glad I was able to help and was able to protect you, but all these scars I just- I just can't." She broke out into loud sobs again.

Wednesday carefully hugged the girl, telling her it was going to be alright. When Enid quieted down, she carefully removed herself from Wednesday's embrace to look at her. Enid's face was tear stained, her make-up was smudged and Wednesday could feel her heart break at the sight. She could almost feel herself start to cry, but decided she had to stay strong for Enid.

Wednesday again laid her hand on Enid's face, cupping the girl's cheek. She carefully stroked over one of Enid's larger scars with her thumb, slightly smiling in the process. "I think they make you look beautiful. I think they make you look strong and interesting. They make you look brave and give you character. Don't get me wrong. You already shine brighter than all the moons and stars, but the scars they really make you shine. You're so beautiful." Wednesday paused, thinking about her words. It took her a moment to realize she had started crying herself. "You're so beautiful. And I will tell you everyday if I have to. No one could ever catch my attention like you do."

Chapter 7: chap. 08 - happy new year

Summary:

The new year is about to start and Enid feels it's the perfect opportunity to open up.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Enid was standing alone on her dorm's balcony, looking at the starts. 'Only a few more minutes' she thought, being excited for all the fireworks she was about to see. She had originally planned to attend Yoko's new year's party, but decided to pass as she had received a mysterious letter just a few hours before. It wasn't hard to guess who had written it considering the paper had the initials "WA" largely engraved at the top.

"I wonder what she's planning", Enid mumbled to herself, before turning her head, having heard the balcony's door creak. "Not as sneaky as you usually are", she remarked, hiding a small giggle. "Well, I thought maybe just for tonight I would not try and scare you to death." Enid smiled at Wednesday's comment, feeling the small butterflies in her stomach that always seemed to arise when the small girl was with her.

"So, Addams, why did you invite me out here? You know, we could've just attended Yoko's party together." Wednesday stayed silent, instead joining Enid at the railing and looking into the sky. "I felt this needed a bit more privacy. Besides, as you know I'm not too fond of these little social gatherings of yours. I'm sure you can remember the last time didn't go too well." Enid knew Wednesday was talking about the Rave'N'.

"Sure, yeah. It feels so creepy in hindsight. You know, how we just had Tyler there with us. Who knows what could've happened?" It had been a while since the events of the last semester had gone down. "Well, we both know what did happen. Eugene got hurt." Enid's smile dropped, remembering how Wednesday still felt herself at fault for the boy's accident. "It's all in the past now. You know Eugene doesn't hold anything against you. Neither does anyone else." They stayed silent for a few more moments, before Enid continued. "So, why did you bring me out here?"

Wednesday paused, seemingly gathering her words. "Everything at it's time." Enid looked down at the clock on her phone. '11:55pm' it read. "Which is when, you think?" Enid looked over at Wednesday, seeing the girl's face deep in thought. "Soon." Was the simple answer she received. For some reason it made her feel nervous. Of course, she felt secure in the girl's presence, knowing she would never let anything harm her. Yet, she still couldn't quite let go of that little voice in her head telling her something was up.

The seconds passed and nothing seemed to happen. "Wednesday, what is it? Can't you just tell me already? I'm starting to feel a little nervous and it's killing me." Wednesday gently grabbed Enid's hand and looked at her. "Just wait a few more minutes. Shouldn't be long now." Enid's heart started pumping in her chest as she tried to read the expression on Wednesday's face. It was so hard sometimes as the girl always had that same neutral expression. Almost impossible to read if you didn't know what was going on with her at all times.

Enid figured the girl was still sorting out her thoughts, not knowing that Wednesday's heart was beating just as hard as her own. "What are you thinking about?" Enid asked silently, feeling Wednesday's grip around her hand tighten. "You", she whispered back and Enid almost dropped, feeling her legs turn to jelly. It could only be a few more seconds until new year's by now.

"A-And w-why's that?" Enid muttered back, almost being inaudible. Wednesday tucked a strand of hair behind Enid's ear, swallowing, before starting to speak again. "B-Because-", she paused and Enid couldn't believe she had just heard Wednesday Addams stutter. Both their hearts were beating so loudly at this point everyone could've heard them.

"Because,-" Wednesday tried to start again, but stopped. The first firework exploded in the sky and as it did Enid could feel Wednesday's lips on her very own.

The kiss felt deep and emotional. It felt like they were finally doing what they were supposed to all this time. It felt so warm and calm but at the same time so rushed, exciting and severely overdue.

They parted for a moment, looking into each other's eyes. Enid could see the fireworks that were exploding all around them reflect in Wednesday's glossy eyes. "You look so beautiful right now", she whispered, cupping Wednesday's cheek with her free hand. Wednesday smiled in return and Enid could've sword it was the first time she had ever seen the girl smile that happily. "Are you okay? Is this okay for you?" Wednesday asked, barely being loud enough to be heard over the fireworks. "More than okay", Enid whispered against Wednesday's lips before smiling and kissing her once more.

"Happy new year, Nes."

Notes:

Chapter 7 missing is no mistake, I just never got around to finishing it even though I started writing around christmas. By this point it rly just feels weird.

Chapter 8: chap. 09 - please? just this once?

Summary:

Wednesday feels haunted, unable to sleep no matter what she tries. Enid offers comfort.

Chapter Text

Wednesday was laying in her bed, shaking. Of course, no one would've known as she laid in her usual coffin-like position. On the inside, though, she was a mess. Her thoughts were running wild and everything seemed to be just a little too overwhelming. Had she actually believed in the concept of emotion she might've even started crying. Instead, she just laid there, silently. Hoping the sweet feeling of torture would let her fall asleep soon enough.

Though, no matter what she did sleep never came to her. She even changed her sleeping position at some point, something she had never done. Everything seemed to just be getting worse by the second when suddenly the thought of her dearly departed pet Nero overcame her. Which finally pushed her over the edge. She started crying. At first only one tear, then more and more. Why? Why did this have to happen right now? Emotions were embarrassing and unnecessary. Yet, she couldn't help herself. The tears kept flowing down her cheeks, making her wish more than ever for the sweet embrace of death to come and get her.

She turned over, looking at her roommate who was sleeping soundly on her bed. She was only barely illuminated by the moon light, but looked beautiful as ever. Wednesday could've almost forgotten about her tears, just by looking at Enid's peaceful sleeping face. All the little details no one would have ever noticed if they didn't specifically pay attention. Like how Enid was just ever so slightly moving her eyes below her eyelids. 'Probably a dream', Wednesday thought, almost catching herself smile. She would've rather peeled her own eyes out than to admit it, but she really liked Enid.

The girl could make her stop crying this quickly and she wasn't even aware of it. Wednesday had never met anyone who had such a strong effect on her. Only one problem though. As soon as she took her eyes off of Enid her tears started coming back. All the overwhelming emotions, the different feelings Wednesday had never cared enough about to actually explore. She could nearly feel herself curling up under her blanket, her pillow stained by tears. She couldn't take it anymore.

"Enid?", Wednesday whispered into the room, not knowing if she should expect an answer. Which made her only so much more happy when she did. "What's up?", replied a tired voice and Wednesday saw Enid's dark eyes focused on her. "Could you come over?" Enid wasn't sure if she had heard her roommate correctly. The very same person who didn't even shake hands was asking her to share a bed?

"What?", she asked, trying to make sure she had heard correctly. "Please? Just this once. I can't seem to fall asleep." A small smile formed on Enid's lips. Of course, she felt sorry for Wednesday. Whatever must've been plaguing her must have really been bad for her to take such measures. "Of course." Enid silently got up and walked over to Wednesday, slipping underneath the blanket in front of her. Wednesday head was laying against Enid's chest and she could immediately feel the warm embrace ease the tension from her bones. "Thank you. Please, never talk about this." Enid stroked Wednesday's cheek with one hand, before pulling her just a little closer. "We'll see about that."

Chapter Text

Wednesday and Enid were entering the quad, enjoying their lunchbreak. "It's so full today", Enid noted, before sitting down by the well, opposite from where Bianca sat. Wednesday simply stood in front of her. People were running around everywhere, talking, simply making a lot of noise. Enid could clearly see the discomfort in Wednesday's face. "We can go inside soon, if you'd like. I just really wanted to enjoy the sun for a moment. I really like the sunshine. Feels so nice on my skin." Wednesday again simply stood in front of Enid. "I also like cancerous sky beams" - 'I like you'.

They had just reentered their dorm room, when Enid once again spun around to face Wednesday, eyes full of excitement. "How do you feel about the redecoration I did with my side of the room?" She paused for a moment, giving Wednesday time to analyze the redecorating she had done. It wasn't a lot she had simply put up a few picture frames of herself, Wednesday and their friends. Enid stepped closer to one of the pictures of the two of them, which depicted them with their shared bucket of popcorn at the movies in Jericho's small local theater. "I was so scared when we saw this movie but I still really like this picture." Enid smiled, remembering how she had begged Wednesday to sleep in her bed the night after, because of how terrifying the movie was. "I like it. It's quite pleasant." - 'I like you'.

It wasn't much later, when they were standing in front of the large window in their room, looking outside at the setting sun. It was shining brightly, illuminating the sky in all kinds of colors. The nicest shades of orange, pink, blue and purple Wednesday had ever seen and she instantly had to think back to the girl of her admiration and her adorably dyed hair. Even if it was quite faded out at this point it still seemed to be one of the blonde's trademarks, everyone probably recognizing her by it at his point. "You know, I really like the sunset. Maybe even more than the bare sunshine from earlier." Wednesday stood quietly as usual, hands behind her back. She looked at Enid who was still looking out the window. "I like it as well. It's pleasant. Like an introduction to the night." - 'I like you'.

Enid was about to get into bed, when she halted almost in the middle of their room, looking at Wednesday. "You know, I really like where we are right now. I like you a lot. I like this a lot." Wednesday looked at Enid, smiling at the words. "I like you too."

Chapter 10: chap. 11 - is this really necessary

Summary:

Enid attempts to Wednesday's make-up.

Chapter Text

Wednesday was laying on her bed, staring at the ceiling. For a regular person this might be an unusual activity. For Wednesday on the other hand just a normal afternoon. "Wednesday!" Enid's loud voice was heard from behind their dorm door, shortly before she heard said door open. "Whatcha up to right now?" Wednesday didn't respond and instead just stayed silently. "Wednesday? Are you sleeping?" Enid went up to the girl's bed and looked down right into her eyes. "So you're not sleeping?" Wednesday moved up her eyes, looking right into Enid's. "No", she simply responded, moving her eyes back into their original position.

"Oh then you're going to love what I have planned!" Enid sounded joyful, which was very concerning to Wednesday. She was about to get up and check what the girl was doing when suddenly she felt her sit down on her stomach. "What the hell are you doing?" Wednesday tried to push Enid off, but felt she couldn't move her arms as Enid was pinning them down with her knees. "I'm going to do your make-up. If you want to or not." Wednesday's eyes widened in horror. "Not a chance in hell." Wednesday again tried to wiggle herself free, but to no avail. "This is happening, you have no choice." Wednesday gave up. No one could disrupt Enid's plans. This was happening.

Enid brought out a palette of eye-shadow and Wednesday got worried seeing as none of the shades even closely resembled black or anything dark. "Don't you have anything darker?" Wednesday almost begged, hoping Enid would show mercy upon her. "Nope", Enid didn't let Wednesday irritate her, continuing in her mission. "What did I do to deserve this?" Wednesday asked, more directed at the ceiling rather than at Enid.

Enid continued by putting some mascara on Wednesday's already naturally long lashes. 'Finally', Wednesday thought. A color she liked. Until Enid pulled the mascara wand out of its tube, shining brightly in its hot pink color. "HELL NO!" Wednesday tried to free herself once more, but being barely able to wiggle under Enid's wolf strength. "Enid please, I will do anything." Enid paused in her movement. "Anything?", she asked, putting on a creepy smile. Wednesday was used to creepy smiles though, having spent a lot of times with her uncle Fester. "Your smile is not going to irritate me, what do you want? You know I can't do this." Enid looked like she was deep in thought.

"Yeah, no I think I'm going to keep moving forward. This is really the only thing I want from you." Enid's smile turned into a sinister one and Wednesday could almost feel herself attracted to the girl if she wouldn't hate the reason for the girl's smile so much. Wednesday closed her eyes waiting for death to come and get her, but she never felt it coming. Instead, she just heard Enid's chuckle. "I'll have mercy on you. No mascara. For now." Wednesday had never been more glad to be granted mercy. "Alright. Lipstick for last. It's actually a darker color, but there's still a tint of purple. I'm definitely going to be using this, so you better accept it now." Wednesday looked at the lipstick that almost seemed small in Enid's large hands.

She felt one of Enid's hands gently hold her face to stop her from moving, before starting to apply the lipstick. "You look so cute", she said, carefully wiping a part of smudged lipstick below Wednesday's lip.

"Wednesday?" Enid asked, her tone suddenly very serious. They looked into each other's eyes and Wednesday noticed how dark and serious Enid's eyes had gotten all of a sudden. She was still holding onto her face and lips, shifting her eyes between Wednesday's lips and eyes. "I-", Enid started to speak once more, but paused. "Can I-", she started once more, looking down at Wednesday's lips. Wednesday nodded slowly and Enid started to lean down, now only inches in-between them. Wednesday closed her eyes, ready to feel Enid's lips touch her own, when suddenly she felt Enid apply the mascara to her eyes.

"YOU LITTLE-", probably the first time Wednesday broke her usual monotone tone. Enid chuckled once more. "I'm sorry. I had to", she could barely contain her laughter. Having Enid distracted, Wednesday could gather the strength to push Enid down and get up from below her.

Now Wednesday had Enid pinned down. "I swear to god-", she started, looking at Enid's eyes. "I'd make you regret this so hard if I didn't love you so much." With that she planted a small kiss on Enid's lips. Smiling into the kiss.

Chapter 11: chap. 12 - full moon's glory

Summary:

Wednesday goes out into the woods to find Enid after wolfing out

Chapter Text

Wednesday was walking through the woods. It might've almost looked like she was enjoying a nice evening stroll, when what she was actually doing was looking for Enid. It was the girl's first full moon after her first time wolfing out and Wednesday felt it was her mission to make sure she was okay. It was only fair after Enid had saved her from the Hyde. And maybe -even if she would've never admitted it out loud- she genuenly cared for the blonde wolf girl and her well-being.

"Enid?", she asked into the darkness, not really expecting a reply and receiving none. She kept on walking until suddenly something became visible from the distance. Something, that didn't fully seem to blend in, unlike the trees or bushes. No, this something was bright and soft and Wednesday soon recognized it as Enid and her soft, blonde werewolf fur.

"Enid?", she asked once more, this time seeing a reaction. The wolf turned around, looking at her and Wednesday realized she might've not fully thought this through, when the wolf started growling at her.

"Enid, it's me." There was a bit of disstress noticable in Wednesday's voice, but it soon vanished when she was sure that Enid would never hurt her. "Enid, please look at me." Wednesday stepped closer to the wolf, touching Enid's face, and looking into her eyes. "You know me", Wednesday sounded quiet and oddly emotional for her usually blunt self.

Enid's growl softened and Wednesday would've almost been sure, that the wolf girl tried to smile at her, which Wednesday returned. "I missed you", she admitted, putting her hand on top of the wolf's head, lightly scratching it, making Enid's large wolf-ears drop. "I'm really glad you're okay", Wednesday continued, looking down as if she was feeling somewhat sad, having missed the cheerful girl.

It hadn't been that long since they saw each other. Enid had went off into the woods around 5pm, not wanting to hurt anyone when she transformed. Especially not Wednesday. Now it was almost midnight and Wednesday felt as if she hadn't seen the girl in ages. She smiled at her once more and suddenly felt Enid de-transform. It looked painful, agonizing even. How her bones snapped, her fur vanished and her body twisted and Wednesday felt herself wanting to ask how she could help. A natural reflex she figured, knowing very well there was nothing she could do.

"Wednesday?" Enid looked up at her from the ground. To Wednesday she looked defeated, so much smaller than she actually was, but at the same time her skin seemed to be glowing. Was that even possible? It was as if the full moon was putting her in a light that had never shone on her before. Never had Wednesday seen someone this beautiful, never had she longed to be with someone this much. "Enid", Wednesday whispered, kneeling down as well and taking her jacket off so Enid could cover herself.

"Why did you come?" Enid sounded worried. "I was trying to make sure you were alright." Wednesday held onto Enid's face, cupping her cheek softly. "I could've hurt you." Enid looked onto the floor, but soon looked back at Wednesday when she felt the girl inch closer. "You would never hurt me. I trust you with my life." Enid smiled hearing the girl's words.

"Wednesday", she began once more, but decided against it. Instead she carefully took the girl's chin, moving her face closer. "Is this alright?" Enid whispered against the dark-haired girl's lips, receiving a nod, before finally connecting them to her own. She smiled into the kiss, feeling her stomach fill with a million butterflies. "Thank you, Nes."

Chapter 12: chap. 13 - faking it

Summary:

Wednesday and Thing decide to play a little prank.

Chapter Text

Enid was walking through the halls of Nevermore, the atmosphere gloomy as always. Yet, her face never fell short of the most happy expression someone could produce. It was as if she was physically brightening the dark halls. There was not a single bad thought on Enid's mind and she was sure nothing could possibly ruin her good mood. At least she was sure until she was approached by a very worried Ajax. The tall boy usually had such a calm and relaxed expression, something must have really plagued him to make him look this worried.

"Ajax, what's wrong?" Enid stopped, now standing in front of the panicked boy. "It's Wednesday. You have to come with me right now. I don't know what happened, but it looks like she's in bad shape." Enid's entire world dropped hearing Ajax's words. She wasted no time asking questions, immediately dropping her bag to sprint off into their dorm's direction. Whatever other information Ajax might've had for her, she could find out in her dorm. At Wednesday's side.

It took maybe a minute, if at all, for Enid to reach their dorm and slam the door open. "What happened?!" She frantically entered the room, going straight for Wednesday, ignoring the mass of people. There were two doctor's, a nurse, their principal and many other spectators. "We're not exactly sure what's really going on with her, but we found this on the floor, next to her bed." Principal Weems was describing the situation, while holding up a piece of hot pink colored fabric. "Don't tell me she's actually allergic to colors?!" Enid's expression could've very well received an award for being the best imitation of Edvard Munch's -The Scream-.

Principal Weems simply shrugged, holding great concern for the well-being of her students. "Even if that was the case, what could we really do about it? It's not like such a thing is a very common occurrence." Enid looked up at the tall woman. "Nothing ever is with the Addamses, don't you think?" Pricipal Weems folded her arms in front of her chest. "Certainly seems so."

That's when Enid noticed something. An all too familiar hand slowly pushing a roll of hot pink fabric into Wednesday's closet. "I think you guys should let me take care of it. She's my roommate after all and if anyone knows how to take care of her, it's me." The people around her seemed confused. Wednesday seemed to need actual medical attention, why would Enid want them to leave?

"Trust me, I know exactly what's wrong with her, and I'm the only one who can fix it. Don't worry, I'll come and get someone if something comes up." With that she started pushing all the people out of their dorm until finally they were all gone and Enid could close the door behind them. Almost seemed too easy to push them out. Maybe they feared what she was going to do. She leaned against the door, exhaling in a satisfied manner. "So why did you fake it?"

Chapter 13: chap. 07 - only you

Notes:

So, I just realized I slightly fucked up and never posted chapter 7 even though I published it on Wattpad back then. Enjoy?

Chapter Text

"I really don't want to go", Enid was laying face-down on her bed, Thing next to her head on her pillow. "Why? Isn't it obvious? Wednesday will probably be there because of Eugene and it's already stressful enough to sleep in the same room as her. I don't need to see her all glamorous, having fun without me." Enid laid her head back down on her pillow, until she felt Thing tapping against her shoulder. "Yes, obviously I'll have my friends there to support me, but that doesn't really change anything. She'll still be there." Enid rolled over, looking at the dress she had picked out months ago, to wear to her first proper school dance.

"What do you mean I should still go?" Enid looked at Thing who was signing at her frantically. "She'll be watching me? I doubt it. She's pretty mad at me. As am I at her. I don't think this will go the way you're imagining." The room fell silent, both Thing and Enid not knowing what to say anymore, when suddenly the door swung open and Wednesday stormed in. "Wednesday", Enid said in a stern voice, looking at the girl. "Enid", the girl replied, before instantly turning to her closet, not giving Enid another look. "Exactly what I mean", the blonde girl whispered at Thing before turning her gaze away from Wednesday.

----------

The night of the dance came quicker than Enid wanted it to. Thing had somehow convinced her to attend, which is why Enid was now standing in front of her mirror, probably in her third hour of trying to perfectly apply her make-up, instead of laying in her bed, hating the world. She was already wearing her pink dress, that was right on theme with the garden theme the student committee had picked out. Her now slightly longer hair was done up, having only a few strands hanging down, making her look like the perfect flower. As she was standing there she wondered what Wednesday was going to wear. Even before their fight the girl had not once showed her the dress she had picked out. Or rather the dress Mrs. Addams had picked out. That's really the only thing Enid knew about it.

When Enid finally perfected the last wing on her eyeliner she looked at herself once more in the mirror, scanning her face. She looked at good as she possibly could and was quite proud of herself. Just for a moment she forgot about her fight with Wednesday and didn't feel like getting swallowed by her self-pity. "What do you think?" She turned to Thing who was resting on the counter in front of her. He had taken her side in the fight as they had grown quite close over the time since Wednesday had started at Nevermore. Thing complimented Enid on her hard work, before pointing to the door and motioning to show Wednesday, who could still be clearly heard rummaging around in their dorm. "Forget it. I'm not leaving the bathroom until she leaves the bedroom. I am not ready to face her yet. The beginning of the dance is the earliest I will do." Thing positioned himself to where he almost looked disappointed. "I know, I know. This is as good as you'll get."

Enid checked the time on her phone, ten minutes until 8PM, the official start of the dance. The people must already be lining up in front of the entrance, waiting to be let in. She wondered why Wednesday hadn't left yet. Usually the girl was quite punctual.

Just as she finished her thought, Enid heard the door to their dorm fall shut. Wednesday had left. What a coincidence. It didn't take Enid long to collect all her things in the bathroom and step back into the bedroom. She sprayed herself with perfume one more time and pocketed her phone before leaving the room herself. "I hope this is gonna go as well as you made it out to be", she said to Thing before shutting the door and making her way down the halls.

----------

Inside Enid quickly found her friends. They must've left early to get a headstart on the punch and check out the theme. With good reason. Looking around at the decorations Enid found herself in awe. She could've sworn the room resembled the garden of Eden itself. Plenty of shining flowers and light so beautiful Enid almost didn't notice the room was supposed to be dark. "They did really good with the decorations", she noted having to slightly raise her voice to be heard over the music. "A bit bright for my taste, but beautiful either way." Yoko raised her glas at Enid before taking a sip from her beverage.

"Enid you look bummed, what's wrong? Aren't you enjoying yourself?" Bianca looked at the werewolf girl with great concern. She somewhat knew what was going on, but still wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else bothering Enid. The two of them had become good friends since the start of the semester and had often taken care of one another. "It's just", she paused looking over into the distance. Which soon the others would realize was exactly where Wednesday was standing, talking to Xavier.

"You guys, she's jealous." Divina giggled, earning death stares from her friends. "I'm not, it's just Wednesday in general. I'm so mad at her, but I miss her so much. Don't ask me how. I don't know either." Enid sighed, taking a sip from Yoko's glass. She almost spit the drink out, feeling a metal taste on her tongue. "What the hell is this? Where did you get this?" Yoko smiled at Enid, shaking her head. "I think you know." The vampire pointed her face at a guy in the corner who seemed to be a bit out of it, but still smiling at them. "You couldn't have had any before we came here?" Bianca raised an eyebrow at Yoko. "This felt more authetic for this whole Eden theme. Gotta bring a little fun into it." Bianca rolled her eyes.

"You should go talk to her", Kent spoke up, gently holding Enid's shoulder. "I'm sure she misses you just as much." Enid visibly shrunk in her seat. "I don't know. What if she doesn't? I could never get over it if she rejected me." Bianca held onto Enid's other shoulder, less gently, slightly pushing the girl back into her chair. "You say that as if you're abour to confess your deep romantic feelings to her. Get it together, Sinclair." Yoko smiled, a red tint coating her teeth. "Might as well. We all know she wants to." This time Enid rolled her eyes. "One more word and I'll get out the garlic bread." Yoko almost applauded. "You guys see the imprint Addams already left on her? It's barely been more than a year since they first met."

"We should dance, don't you think?" Divina offered Enid her hand, which hesitantly she accepted. "One song. Then I'm going back to self pity." A smile lit up Divina's face. "That's -partly- what I like to hear." With that she pulled Enid up into a standing position, leading her, followed by the rest of their friends onto the dance floor. Most of the attending students had gathered there by now as the DJ had started to play some faster, more modern songs. "This isn't so bad." Enid smiled for the first time that night, holding onto her friends and celebrating. "Told you", Divina gave her a proud grin, knowing under different circumstances Enid would've smacked her for it.

It must've been about half an hour or longer -Enid really couldn't tell even if she had wanted to- when suddenly the DJ started playing a slower song. "Alright I got this", Enid suddenly murmured, before going in Wednesday's direction. She felt quite confident at first, still having all the adrenaline from her earlier dancing in her. This didn't last very long as with every step she took towards Wednesday, she felt herself getting smaller.

"Wednesday", she whispered, finally having arrived next to the girl. "Enid?" The smaller girl sounded like she was surprised to see her roommate. "May I have this dance?" Enid again whispered, being on the verge of tears, waiting for Wednesday's reply. But the reply never came. At least not verbally. Wednesday took Enid's hand and lead her to a more open spot on the dance floor. She kept holding onto Enid's hand and placed the other one on the girl's waist. Enid automatically assumed her position by placing her own free hand on Wednesday's shoulder. They both looked at each other, looking like they had a thousand words to say, but none were spoken. They danced in silence until the end of the song and the next, before Enid had the courage to speak up again.

"I missed you." Silence. Enid almost feared she had made a mistake, when Wednesday suddenly spoke up. "I think, I've been missing you as well." Silence again. Enid couldn't even hear the music anymore. All her focus laid on Wednesday. Wednesday and her intimidating eyes, that weren't really intimidating to Enid, but rather intruiging. She could've looked at them for hours without stopping. She could've looked at all of Wednesday forever and wouldn't have complained about it. The way her hair framed her face, the way her freckles seemed to glow whenever light passes over her face, the way her throat moved when she swallowed, the way her shoulders and colarbones seemed to inviting to touch and Enid could feel herself getting lost in the girl's presence.

She didn't notice how the people around her seemed to disappear, or how to her mind there was nothing around them anymore. It was just them, dancing slowly in their own world. "Why did you come here?" Wednesday spoke in an equal whispering tone, still looking deeply into Enid's eyes. The girl swallowed, thinking about her reply. "I couldn't bear another minute not talking to you. I need you with me." Wednesday paused hearing the girl's words and Enid was almost sure this was it. This was the moment Wednesday would reject her. The moment that would break her heart. Even after everything she still couldn't beliebe that Wednesday would even think about her.

"Enid", the smaller girl tried to catch her roommate's attention. She was now gently holding the girl's cheek, the people around them seemingly not existing anymore. "I'll always be with you", was the last thing Wednesday whispered, before slowly pulling Enid in and placing a gentle kiss on her lips. "I will always need you with me."
