Chapter 1: Full Moon
Chapter Text
Mr. Aegean #1 - Full Moon
"W-Where are we going?" Mr. Aegean stammered, holding onto his friend's arm for safety. No response was said, in fact Ms. Indigo hadn't said anything to him at all when they shook him awake, handed him a lantern and opened the cabin door.
Of course Mr. Aegean followed him, as he often feared for what would happen to Mx. Indigo out in the middle of the night, despite that time being their favorite to roam about. The dark blue friend looked up at the moon, one of the only two things supplying them with vision. It was full, bright and full. Mr. Aegean gulped, his grip tightening on Mx. Indigo's arm.
"Full moon, h-huh?" He murmured, fearing what their new plan could be about. What new ghoul or demon were they going to contact? Would they accidentally wake up Kiara again, and be chased all the way around the mist? Mr. Aegean chuckled at the memory; at the time it had been quite terrifying, but now it was a bit funny. He felt the purple friend tense up under his touch, and they finally spoke their first sentence of that night.
"We're here."

Mr. Aegean #2 - Regret
'Stupid stupid stupid.....' He murmured, curled up underneath a thick pine tree. It towered over him, covering his figure in darkness, which is why he picked this spot to brood. Sometimes he liked feeling tiny, and unnoticeable. It meant the others would leave him alone.
Mr. Aegean tried to control his breathing, silent tears escaping from the glitchy abyss of his face. He let himself be too out there, he let himself start to care. The back of his head touched the rough exterior of the bark as he let the tears run free. He felt regret, insane regret for letting Ms. Blush see him vulnerable, for finally talking about himself with Mr. Teal, for being comfortable beside another person like he felt with Indigo. His hands found themself in his hair as he tugged hard, trying to bring himself back to reality SOMEHOW.
The reality where he would never get close to anyone. The reality that Dalton made for him. What he was CREATED for.
Eventually, he wiped away his tears, and quieted his breathing. And he waited. Waited for a fleeting hope, that someone would notice he was gone from his room. But as 30 minutes turned to an hour into 2 hours, he gave up. He gave up on the hopes, on the false ideals that maybe he could finally connect with someone. That anyone would care.
So he picked himself up, like he always did. He began walking quietly back to the cabin, that housed many people, but still felt so lonely.

Chapter Text
"Don't fuss Sorrel-y! They're only braids." The tall pink one said, knelt behind a smaller brown figure. The small figure in question was very antsy, their hands raised as if they were ready to get up in a rush and dash out the room. But the pink woman kept them steady, working on multiple small braid's in the brown one's tousled hair.
"I still can't believe you made me get a bath..." They pouted, folding their arms in a tsundere-like action. The taller figure, Ms. Blush, only smiled, finishing yet another braid on Mx. Sorrel's tiny head.
"Well Ms. Ebony was the one who accomplished it, so take it up with her, Darling.~" Blush purred, starting on a new smaller braid. Sorrel made a noise of protest, but sat still anyways. As Ms. Blush finished the 14th braid, she felt satisfied by the even numbers of twists. Her mitten hands left the brown, tangled locks of Mx. Sorrel, who looked up in curiosity at the sudden departure of limbs. The taller one hummed with pride as she grabbed a blue hand mirror from her (rather messy) bed, and held it in front of her smaller companion.
"Like it? It's different from how I do my braids, but still very pretty!" She gushed, letting Sorrel take hold of the hand mirror. They looked in awe, grabbing a few of the braids gently and letting them fall through their fingers. Their normally static glitches seemed to perk up also, gaining speed and making their face quite a blur.
"Ohhh it's so pretty!" They grinned, joy lacing their voice as they angled the mirror to include their pink partner in the reflection. "We match!~"
"Yes we do!" Blush smiled also and wrapped her arms around Sorrel's shoulders, both of them enjoying a moment of bliss in The Mist.

Chapter Text
Mx. Sorrel shifted uncomfortably in the bed they were sharing with Ms. Blush.
'Well not sharing of course....' They thought, lying on their back in the darkness. 'It's just a sleep over...she only let me borrow the bed.....it's not like we're...'
Sorrel turned over to face the sleeping figure besides them. It was starting to get stuffy and hot inside the rickety old cabin where all the friends resided. Sorrel desperately wanted something to drink.......buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut they were too tired to get up. So they started to poke their pink companion's ribcage until she woke up.
"What the- Sorrel-a......." The woman's voice slurred as she was woken up by Sorrel. She laid a brown arm on top of the smaller one's head, her eyes fluttering between reality and sleep. "What...........do you...need."
Mx. Sorrel blinked in surprise. Blush sounded weird- perhaps she was sick? Maybe she needed water also! "I'm thirsty!" Sorrel whispered. Blush didn't respond until Sorrel repeated it 2 more times.
"Ugh....Sorrel..." Blush murmured, her eyes squinting at their form. Sorrel noted how gravely her voice sounded. Strange.
"Have you noticed you sound really weird?" They remarked, booping her glitchy cheek. The pink figure blinked rapidly, trying to clear away the sleep in her glitched eyes.
"It's because its late.......no don't get up!" She stopped the smaller brown figure, who had begun to sit up. "I'll get you water........just keep resting." Slowly but surely, she got up, stretching her arms and letting out a long yawn. She looked back down at Sorrel, who was watching her with a small smile.
"You look very pretty when you're tired.." They yawned as well, blinking slowly. They rolled over, clutching the white blanket both of the imaginary friends were sharing before. Blush hummed, and Sorrel heard her footsteps leave the cabin room.
Not soon after, the footsteps returned. The brown friend quickly rolled over, and sat up. Which as expected, gave them whiplash.
"Careful Sorrel-a....don't want to jumble your brain already..." The tall friend sat down next to them and rubbed their back soothingly before handing Sorrel a glass of water. "For you Hun."
Mx. Sorrel nodded as thanks, and quickly downed the water, choking on their very last gulp. Blush patted their upper back as they coughed. The gesture made Sorrel's heart skip a beat. "Thank you Blush...." They mumbled, handing the glass off to her.
"Of course darling." She smiled, and Sorrel knew in the darkness, as Blush's smile could light up any place in The Mist. They couldn't help but smile back, and when Blush settled back under the sheets, Sorrel quickly cuddled up next to her.
"Tell me about your new book again...I fell asleep half-way through last time." They whispered, resting their head on Blush's chest. They felt the vibrations of the pink friend's body as she chuckled and began to summarize her latest read.

Chapter 5: Realizations
Chapter by Onionknees, orphan_account
Summary:
Blush feels sad knowing they'll never know...
Chapter Text
“Stay with me?”
Ms. Blush still remembered that night. The night she was so close to spilling everything,to the person she cared about the most….. But she hesitated.
She recalled how bright the stars were, and how despite the chilly autumn air, she had felt so warm inside sitting next to them. How they made her usually static mood flare up. How excited they were to have her with them that night. She had been so close….but glancing at their content smile, as they pointed out different constellations Blush had never seen before… her imaginary heart started to ache. And she knew they wouldn’t return her feelings. Not that night, not ever.
Unlike her, they knew how to live life. How to make it through despite all the things the friends had been forced to do. But that was what she lacked. Ms. Blush knew inside that wouldn’t change. She couldn’t change…she can’t. It seemed impossible to her, while all the other friends could enjoy their time in the mist, she never would. Maybe it was her protective nature, and how her smile is always forced, and no one ever noticed. But she knew to take care of the friends, of them….she’d have to remain unchanged.
Under the starry sky, Blush realized what Dalton created her for. A constant in his life, something that would never deviate. Perhaps that’s how he felt, with every new person…every new therapist…that nothing would ever change. That they were all the same.
Laying in the dark next to Mx. Sorrel, the warm feeling escaped her body. She rolled away from the smaller figure, and curled up to sleep her feelings away.

Chapter 6: Safe Space
Chapter by Decrepit_Dreams, Onionknees
Summary:
Merigold has a run-in with The Overgrown. It doesn't go over well..
Chapter Text
“Stupid fucking Teal- why does he have to be a jackass all the time!!” Merigold shouted into the humid air of the Mist. No response back from the cold uncaring being. The orange friend growled in frustration and ripped off their similar colored hat, throwing it to the ground and stomping on it. Stupid fucking Teal I’m going to-
Ms. Merigold felt a shiver along her spine, causing their shoulder blades to tense up. They whipped their head around, to come face to face with The Overgrown.
Merigold’s hands balled up, and she stubbornly picked her cap back up and dusted it off. She fitted it back on their head before focusing their attention on the statue.
“Can’t you see I want to be alone?!” She shouted angrily at the fellow killer. But the statue’s expression stayed unmoving while the green tendrils slowly moved her closer and closer to the orange goon. In return they took a step back, unaware of what the alien plant would do. “What the hell do you want from me?”
One of the flower-decorated tendrils reached out and tapped Mx. Merigold’s hat, dipping it down a little. The orange goon scowled, fixing their hat and folding her arms.
“I don’t want to play games with you. Go away.” She coldly stated, spinning on her heel to walk away. The plant in response wrapped a bundle of tendrils around their waist and spun them back around. “What the fu- God you’re more annoying than Teal himself!!!” The friend yelled, shoving away from the chilled statue. The stems relaxed and let her go freely. She stumbled away blindly, and with a crack of air and a showering of dust, they poofed away.
The bad thing though was that they didn’t think about where they were going.
So to her surprise, and the surprise of another, she landed butt-first on a hardwood floor.
“FUCK!” Merigold groaned, rubbing their sore bum. “Where the fuck am I?”
“Oh dear, are you okay Meri?” A soft voice spoke. Mulberry’s.
The orange friend looked up to see the concerned glitchy face of the mulberry-colored friend. Her throat felt dry as the calm goon held out a helping hand. Merigold reluctantly took it.
“Yes I’m alright…I was just in a hurry…” They said slowly, glancing around at their surroundings. She was in a small library, with a couple easels sitting by a moderately sized window. It was so bright compared to her room at the rickety old cabin…
“This is where I spend most of my time. I’m surprised you knew about this place, I don’t think I’ve ever brought you here before!” Mulberry chirped, still holding onto Merigold’s hand. The latter pulled away, though she squeezed the purple friend’s hand in thanks.
“I….was having a rough time outside. I guess I chose the safest place?” Mx. Merigold chuckled weakly. “Sorry about the scare.”
“No no, I’m glad you’re here. Would you like to assist me with my painting?”
“Oh, I’m not really an arts and crafts person..”
Ms. Mulberry laughed, which caught the orange friend off-guard. “Oh I wasn’t asking for you to paint with me! I want you to be my muse!”
“Your….muse??” She responded in confusion. The mulberry friend nodded, and directed the goon to a plush looking sofa.
“Take a nap, I know you need it right now.” She smiled warmly, walking back over to an easel that Merigold noticed was in use. “Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you.”
The orange friend hesitantly trudged over to the sofa, and laid down to get ready for a long and hopefully calming nap.
