as long as i'm with you

Summary:

kya and lin are finally back to teaching in person after two years of online classes. they're trying (and failing miserably) to hide their relationship from their students.

inspired by did you see that by bedheadbread :)

Notes:

Noa, this one's for you.

ALSO: a little context-
Lin teaches Pre-Law, her classes include "Legal Documents I" (first year class) and "Oxford Debate" (fourth year class) and does research. Asami and Mako are in her research lab. She basically runs human simulations of courtroom and legal scenarios.
Kya teaches in the environmental science building, but she is also a part of the faculty of Health Sciences. She teaches "Oceanography II" (third/fourth year class) and "Cellular Biology in Marine Life" (first year class). She does research in FLOAT therapy, and has a huge lab that Korra joins. Bolin in the teaching assistant in her first year class, though he doesn't particularly enjoy the topic, he likes and respects Kya as a professor. Asami is taking Oceanography II as an elective.

Chapter Text

Lin Beifong wakes up to the loving yet crushing weight of her wife draped atop her body. Its early, the alarm hasn't even gone off yet, but golden light spills through the cracks in the blinds of their shared bedroom. She takes a breath in, then blows out forcefully to get Kya's abundance of silver hair off of her face. Kya stirs slightly, moving her hand from Lin's hip to her waist, and Lin's breath hitches; she doesn't know how she got so lucky.

Lin waits a few moments before sliding out from beneath her wife. It's the first day of classes, and though she doesn't like to show it, Lin's a nervous wreck. With every new class comes an even dumber group of kids, though she doesn't blame them. With today's technological advances, her students can't seem to pay attention for more than twenty seconds at a time.

"Wha- what time is it?" Kya mumbles from the bed, hair and limbs askew.

"Almost six," Lin replies, sitting down and placing a hand on Kya's bare back.

"Ugh, too early."

"I know," Lin coos, "But it's the first day, it won't be that bad. And I promise we can get into our pyjamas and watch all the nature documentaries you want when we get home."

"oookayyyyy," Kya sighs, slowly lifting her head and pushing her hair out of her face.

"How about I make us some pancakes and coffee," Lin says, kissing her forehead before standing up and putting on her robe. "I can put blueberry smiles on them, just how you like."

Kya rolls onto her side and hums. "That would be nice," she replies, a soft smile spreading across her face. The gold light shines onto her mouth and for a brief moment, Lin can only think about how kissable her wife's lips are. She shakes her head, gives Kya a peck, then walks to the kitchen and prepares breakfast for the two of them. When she returns to the bedroom, a plate of blueberry smiley-face pancakes and a mug of coffee in hand, Kya is already dressed in her favourite blue sundress and a straw hat.

Lin smiles as she puts the plate and mug down on the bedside table. "You look like you're going to the beach," she says with a chuckle.

"Is it too casual? I don't want to look too stern, but I also don't want to look like I'm too lax. Like I'm a cool professor, but I'll still give you shit if you're on your phone in class."

"Maybe lose the hat," Lin says.

"Should I go for the blue hair scarf instead? I've got the one that matches the dress."

"Yeah, that would look nice. You should wear your black ballet flats with it as well, the ones with the blue ribbons," Lin says as she rummages through her own closet for her classic First Day suit.

Lin, or "Doctor Beifong," as she's called by her students, is known for being a hard-ass professor. She teaches mandatory first year and fourth year classes, by her own design, that way she's able to mold the incoming and outgoing students, and she'll always get to see how they've evolved over the years. She gives hard assignments, but always offers extra help. She refuses to answer stupid questions, especially if she's already said the answer, especially if the answer's in the syllabus. She expects critical thinking skills of her students, she expects them to be able to justify their responses and back up their claims with credible sources and research. She expects nothing but the best.

Kya, on the other hand, is known for being the "Chill" professor. She extends deadlines, she allows her students to redo exams and assignments, she curves the exam marks- she has a slew of admiring students and teaching assistants.

Unless they were explicitly told, no one would ever suspect the two of them of being married.

Lin finds her suit- a boxy, brown checkered blazer with matching slacks and a starch white long-sleeved button up shirt. Normally they would wear a vest, but the September morning was warm, just coming off of the heat of the summer.

Kya watches the thoughts flicker behind Lin's eyes as she gets dressed. "What are you thinking?" She asks after swallowing a mouthful of pancake.

"Just about how I'm going to keep my hard-ass demeanour when I know that you'll be one building over. I can't let these kids know that I'm secretly a softie."

Kya laughs. "I wonder if we'll be able to see each other from our classroom windows," she thinks aloud.

"It's a possibility," Lin replies. "Have you seen your new classroom yet?"

"No, not yet. They've been finishing painting the walls of the hallways and wouldn't let anyone in for the past two weeks. I'm excited, though. We'll finally be able to walk to our classes together in the morning, thanks to this new building."

"Yeah, and we can park a lot closer too. That staff lot by the Kinesiology building is screaming our names," Lin replies.

Kya smiles. "I don't care how far the walk is, as long as I'm with you."

"-And so," Kya continues, taking a brief pause to take a sip of coffee, "explorers would hydrate on their travels by sucking on fragments of sea ice. This allowed them to drink water without consuming the high salt content and becoming dehydrated. Does anyone have any questions before class ends?" The students of Kya's class have already started packing their bags as she asks this last question. "Alright, I'll see you all on Thursday. We have a guest lecturer coming in from Ba Sing Se university to talk to you all about the polar icecaps. Have a good rest of your first day, everyone!"

As students pile out of the room, Kya closes her laptop and starts packing her papers into her briefcase. "Professor?" asks a voice from the behind her.

"Just 'Kya' is okay," she replies as she turns around. She recognizes the student, a fourth-year who she had taught during her last in-person class. "Oh, hi, Korra. How have you been?"

"I'm alright," she replies. "I've actually been wondering if I could ask you something."

"Shoot," Kya smiles, strapping her laptop into her case.

"Well," Korra starts, a crack in her voice. "I've been looking to join a lab, and was wondering if you had any openings available. I've been looking into your research with Float therapy, and I found it very interesting. Also, since I'm double majoring in environmental science and biology, I thought that I would be a good fit."

"Of course, Korra. I'm so glad you're interested. Are you planning on attending grad school?"

"I am," Korra replies. "I've actually applied to a few schools already, but I figured that adding research to my resume would give me a shoe-in."

"Good, good. You're an excellent student, I remember you from before we went online. What schools have you applied to?"

"I've applied here, but also to Ba Sing Se University under the mentorship of a family friend, Dr. Zuko, for marine biology and zoology, as well as to Northern University for aquatic healing under Dr. Katara."

"That's incredible, Korra. If you need any letter of recommendations, please let me know. I'd be happy to help-- I know both of those professors personally."

"Wow, thank you, D- Kya."

"Of course. Now, my lab is currently on a break for a couple of days while we adjust to the new school year, but if you come to room 304 in the Medical building on Monday at four o'clock, I'd be happy to show you around and introduce you to a few of the other students working in the lab. Now, I've got a lunch meeting. Is there anything else I can do for you?"

"No, thank you. Have a nice lunch," Korra replies with a smile. "I'll see you on Thursday."

"See you then," Kya replies, grabbing her briefcase and following Korra out the door. She walks out of the new building and towards the student-run campus cafe, where she knows Lin will be waiting with Kya's brother Tenzin and their friend Izumi.

As she approaches the cafe, she smiles. She missed her friends, and was excited to finally see them again. Tenzin had been travelling the world with his family for the past five months, as he does every year. As a professor of World Culture and Religion, it was expected of him. Kya hadn't heard from him in months, as he is known to fully disconnect on his travels, only bringing a camera and a journal, both of which she was sure he brought and was excited to share with the group.

Izumi, however, had spent the summer visiting her father, Zuko, in Ba Sing Se. She had been very secretive about what she was doing up there, and Kya was eager to find out.

Kya sits down next to Lin in the back booth. She gives her wife a peck on the cheek and tunes in to Izumi and Tenzin's argument.

"All I'm saying is that if you hadn't offered him two dollars, Bumi never would have tried to jump that creek with his bike," Tenzin exclaims.

"Who are you kidding?! Bumi would've done it for free, just to prove a point!" Izumi responds.

"Why did you bring it up in the first place?"

"Because I thought it would be funny if Bumi fell into the creek! We all did!"

"They're still having this argument?" Kya asks Lin in a mumble, "It's been nearly fourty years."

"I know, but it always gets brought up somehow, so it's better sooner than later," Lin responds with an annoyed look.

"Guys, guys," Kya says, trying to calm down her brother and friend. "Seriously, we hear this argument every single time we're together. We all know Bumi's stupid. It's his own fault that he fell into the creek and broke his arm. He was sixteen years old- he never had any common sense."

Izumi grins. "Well, you're right on one front, Bumi is pretty dumb," She says with a laugh.

"Too right you are," Tenzin responds.

Tenzin proceeds to talk about his travels for the next half hour, and Izumi finally mentions why she was in Ba Sing Se for so long. ("I was helping my dad build a turtleduck conservatory and rehabilitation clinic!"), and soon enough, it's time for them to return to their respective classrooms or labs. Tenzin, who's in the Languages building, takes off towards West Campus, and Izumi, who's in the Biology building, heads North, leaving Kya and Lin alone at last, walking towards the East end of campus.

"How was your first class?" Kya asks her wife.

"It was fine," Lin grumbles. "These first years are scared of me already, thankfully. I only caught two of them on their phones during the lecture."

"And what did you do?"

"I told them that if there was an emergency, then they needed to go into the hallway- otherwise put that phone away unless you want it taken away forever."

"That's very stern," Kya says.

"Hey, I thought that's the kind of thing you like-"

"SHHHHH!" Kya places a hand over Lin's mouth, though she can't help but grin and feel somewhat giddy.

She pulls her hand away when she notices a group of familiar students staring at them, confused looks on their faces. Kya nods in their direction and Lin turns around to face them, her face in it's usual sour expression. The students turn away and being whispering animatedly amongst themselves. As Kya and Lin pass, Kya catches a few words: "Yeah, she kept looking out the window into the other building during the lecture and trailing off- I don't know why though."

"Maybe they're fu-"

"Shut up, Korra! They're right there!"

"I'm just saying!"

Kya chuckles to herself and they keep walking, until they finally reach the Environmental Science and Law buildings.

"I'll see you later," Kya says. "Good luck with your fourth years."

"Thanks, I'll need it. Have fun with your first years, I know you love teaching them."

"Thank you. I love you."

"I love you too."

Two Weeks Later

Lin smiles as she listens to Kya hum along to the lyrics of the song on the radio. Some song about two lovers in a forbidden romance that Lin never quite understood until she met Kya. Then again, you start to understand a lot of things when you fall in love.

Kya had cancelled her class that morning in order to give her students time to prepare for the upcoming test, and to allow herself time to create it, so they were able to leave twenty minutes later than normal. This allowed for them to partake in an especially remarkable activity that morning, which had put Lin in a blissful state. "So do you want to pop by my office after your first class? I'm probably going to get takeout and eat in there. I'll order enough dumplings for two."

"Sounds amazing," Lin replies with a smile, turning off the car. "I'll see you then," she says before kissing Kya on the cheek.

Lin's classroom is full when she enters, which isn't surprising. As part of her 'hard-ass' mirage, she makes attendance and participation worth a percentage of her students' grade.

As she crosses the room to her podium and connects her laptop with the slideshow to the projector, the class goes silent. "Alright class, today we're going to be talking about opening statements..."

It's halfway through Lin's class when she has to take off her blazer due to the heat, and it's less than ten seconds later when her class erupts into excited whispers and murmurs. A hand raises, and Lin calls on a student that she's never seen before. "Yes, Mister...?"

"Wu, ma'am," says the student as Mako, one of Lin's research assistants, seems to be begging him not to say another word,

"Wu. What's your question?"

"Who gave you the hickey?"

"Everyone get out."

Lin is furious. She marches through the Environmental Science building, desperately trying to find Kya's office in the maze-like hallways. She cusses as she enters the wrong room again, slamming the door and trying the next. By the time she reaches Kya's office, she's so worked up that she can't even sit down.

"Lin, what's wrong?" Kya asks, standing up from behind her desk. "You were in such a good mood earlier. What happened?"

Lin sputters a few curse words before taking off her jacket and pulling down the neckline of her shirt. "A bruise, Kya? Really?"

Kya comes around to the front of the desk and inspects the brown and red mark on Lin's neck. "Oh shit," she says, trying to stop herself from grinning and giggling. "I am so sorry, Lin. I didn't think I would leave that deep of a mark."

"One of my students pointed it out. I have never- never been so embarrassed in my entire life!"

"Not even that one time with the donkey-?

"Not even then."

"Oh wow," Kya says. "Did you try covering it up with some concealer?"

"I ran out after our night out last month and didn't bother to buy any more. You know I don't wear makeup that often."

"Okay, well, have you considered just covering it and ignoring it? Just keeping your coat on? If someone asks, you can say that you fell down the stairs or something."

"It's what I'll have to do," Lin replies with a sigh. She puts her coat down on one of the chairs in front of Kya's desk, and sits down in the other.

"I'm really sorry, Lin. I haven't done one in so long, I forgot how much pressure to apply to not leave a mark."

"It's fine, really. I got a few remarks from my fourth years, that's what's really pissing me off. The absolute disrespect I just received from my own students..."

"Oh no," Kya says as she brings out two containers of pork dumplings, some spring rolls, and two pairs of chopsticks. "What happened?"

"Well," Lin starts, opening her container, "As soon as I took of my jacket, they were already whispering about it. Then, a student had the audacity to ask me about it!"

"And what did you do?" Kya asks, mouthful of dumpling.

"Naturally, I ripped him a new one for disrespectful behaviour and for not minding his own business," Lin replied, matter-of-factly.

"Naturally," Kya echoed.

"Basically, I told him that if he kept asking personal questions in an educational and professional environment, I'd kick him out of my class and he would have to retake it next year, holding off his graduation an extra five months."

"Well that's not too bad."

"And then I told him that he had no right to ask me about my body, and that just because he was a sad virgin, doesn't mean everyone is."

Kya gasps, shock clear across her face. "Lin, you didn't!"

"I did, and I'm not apologizing for it. If he wants to tell the dean, let him. I am an expert in debate, and can get him in more trouble than me. And I'm his superior, and he shouldn't be making comments about me at all."

"Very true," Kya replies with a gentle smile. "Well, I'm glad it wasn't something worse. I've heard stories from other departments... students trying to sleep with their teachers for a better mark? It's disgusting."

"I couldn't even imagine being treated like that. I would-"

There's a knock at the door, interrupting their conversation.

"Come in," Kya says, holding up her index finger and giving Lin a sorrowful look.

Bolin, one of Kya's teaching assistants, walks in the room. "Sorry to interrupt," He says, bringing a stack of papers over to Kya's desk.

"No worries at all, Bolin. This is Dr. Beifong, she and I were just discussing teaching methods."

Bolin waves to Lin, and she raises a quick hand and give a grim smile.

"Nice to meet you," he says before turning back to Kya. "I graded the rest of my section's assignments on the properties of seawater, I figured that you would want to give them a second look before posting the grades."

"Yes, thank you. I appreciate your quick work."

"No problem at all, Kya. I'll leave you two to it," He says, backing out of the room. "I'll see you next week." He exits into the corridor, and they can hear him whispering excitedly with someone else. As they pass the doorway, Kya recognizes two of her students, Korra and Asami, with him.

"I think they're piecing it together," Kya says, dunking a spring roll into plum sauce.

"They're definitely aware that something is going on. No doubt they're going to tell Mako."

"Mako... I've heard that name before."

"You met him. He's my undergraduate assistant in the lab. And, he's the brother of that kid who just walked in here, Bolin. Thankfully, he tends to mind his own business, but the other three..."

"I don't think they fully understand what's going on yet.

"Hmpf. Good"

"I think we should have a little fun with this," Kya says. "It's inevitable that they find out, but I think it would be fun to keep them on their toes for a bit. We control what they know."

"Fine," Lin says after swallowing another dumpling. "If it's going to happen, we may as well get ahead of it."

"Sorry I'm late, everyone," Kya says as she rushes into her lab. "My partner was running a bit behind this morning, and we carpool." Kya sees a confused look fall across Korra's face, and she turns to Bolin, who shrugs.

"I know that we haven't gotten through almost all of the testing for the first phase, but how are the spreadsheets looking? Is there a trend in the data yet?"

"Almost," says one of her grad students "Many participants mentioned that they had an improved sleep quality after just one session, but only some reported effects that lasted longer than a few days on their mental health. There should be a clear trend once we finish with the new batch of participants."

"That could also just be due to the stress of midterms coming up, which reminds me- I know some of you have lots of midterms before the break. Please come talk to me about your availability, I'll see what I can do in terms of scheduling so that you have time to study and such. We'll also be closing the lab during the break, and for the entire week afterwards. We'll be returning on the fifth."

Kya makes her way to her lab office, where she pulls out her laptop. She's got four emails: one from Lin, telling her that she looks cute in her coveralls (which makes her blush), a faculty newsletter, which she skims over, a message from the Dean of Health Science, asking her to meet tomorrow (she sends a quick reply confirming the time), and a letter from Tenzin, asking if his daughter Jinora could hang out in her lab for the day (yes, of course, she would love to have her).

"Hey, Kya? There's someone here to see you," a voice calls from the office door. Kya looks up to see one of her grad students, Jinora standing shyly behind her.

"Thanks, Kiri. Come on in, Jinora, sit down. How are you?"

"Hi Aunt Kya! I'm good. Dad wanted me to come to campus to look around before applying to schools."

"Did you see anything interesting so far?"

"Some stuff. I really liked dad's friend Haru's class on geology. And Aunt Izumi let me visit her lab for cat owl rehabilitation. It was so sad! A lot of them were so sick and injured."

"They are, but Izumi takes really good care of them and nurses them back to health. That's why she loves her job," Kya reassures. "Besides, there are rarely any fatal cases in her lab. Those go to the animal hospital."

"I know, but still- it's sad to see," Jinora says. "What do you do in your lab?" Jinora asks.

"We research Float therapy," Kya replies. "Basically, you go into a pod, which has a water and salt solution inside, and you float around for thirty minutes, with total sense deprivation, no noise, pitch black, just a floating sensation. You should come out feeling nice and relaxed. It helps with mental and physical healing, but there are some other benefits as well, depending on what you're going in there for."

"Oh, that's really interesting!" Jinora says. "I think that's really important with how mental health has gotten a lot worse for a lot of people over the past few years."

"I'm glad you think so. Do you want to see the pod? There's someone doing a test in it right now, so you wont be able to see the inside, but you could always come back and test it out for yourself some other time."

"Sure!"

"Alright, come with me. I'll introduce you to some of my students in the lab." Kya leads Jinora over to the Pod and taps on Bolin's shoulder.

"Bolin, this is my niece, Jinora. She's a senior in highschool who's come to look around the university."

"Hey Jinora! Nice to meet you! Welcome to the lab."

"Hi, Bolin! Nice to meet you too," Jinora responds with a smile.

"Do you mind showing Jinora how the Pod works? I have to make a quick phone call."

"Sure," Bolin says with a nod.

"Oh, Aunt Kya, I almost forgot. Dad wanted me to invite you and Aunt Lin to dinner round ours tonight. Aunt Izumi is going to be there, and I think Uncle Bumi is coming up too. Can you call Aunt Lin and let her know?" When Bolin hears this question, a quizzical look plasters across his face.

Ignoring Bolin's stare, she says: "Sure, I'll call her."

As she walks away, she can hear him quietly ask Jinora: "Aunt Lin?"

Jinora, knowing that Kya and Lin like to keep their personal lives private, responds: "Yeah, she's my dad's best friend."

Since the day that Lin had agreed to have some fun letting the student piece together that she and Kya were married, she noticed a sudden increase in interest from her students, but not in class topics. She had earned many questions about her personal life, all of which she would disregard, or give a vague answer to. Sometimes, when the students were writing a test, she would find herself looking into Kya's classroom, which was the floor below hers, and she would watch her wife get excited about the topic of the day. As days went on, she could feel the student coming closer to straight out asking her what they were thinking.

One day, particularly close to the break, Lin's students were particularly unmotivated to participate. She had asked question after question, and the only person who would raise their hand was Mako.

"Alright," She said, sternly. "Here's the deal. If someone can answer this question correctly, I will tell you one personal fact about myself. Okay?" She watched as several heads snapped up around the room, now paying close attention to what she was saying.

"My question is: Name three things that you shouldn't do when cross-examining a witness. Only one person can answer, and they have to give me all three correct answers. There will be no help from friends. If I see anyone else talking, you'll have to give me three new answers, okay? Three things that you shouldn't do while cross-examining a witness." Lin's leaning against her desk now, scanning the room. A majority of the students' interests have been piqued, and about ten students' hands are raised.

"Alright, Miss Sato. Give it a go."

"When cross-examining a witness, you should not ask long and complicated questions, argue with the witness, or ask for the witnesses opinion, unless they're considered an expert."

"Very good, Miss Sato. Alright. One fact about my personal life- hm, what to say..."

"How about whether you're married or not?" Asks Wu, disruptive as usual.

"Alright, fine. Yes, I am married."

"To who?" Asks another.

"Maybe you can all earn that another time," Lin says with a grin. The class lets out a collective groan, and Lin laughs. "Alright, Alright. I'm not telling you who it is, so don't ask, but I will tell you that I'm married to another professor at this school. Class dismissed."

The students pack their bags quickly and rush out the door, talking excitedly about the new information that had been revealed. Asami and Mako are making their way towards the door when Lin calls them over.

"Yes, Doctor Beifong?" Mako asks when they reach her desk.

"Just wanted to let you know ahead of time- I won't be in the lab today. You guys know how to set everything up, and Desna and Eska should be there today to run the simulation. If you need any help, please ask them."

"Is everything alright?" Asami asks, concern apparent on her face.

"Yes, yes, everything's fine. My wife is dragging me to her brother's house for dinner."

"Oh. You don't seem too pleased."

"Well, he's got four children, two of which are ages twelve or below. I already have enough difficulty putting up with full grown adults everyday."

Asami laughs and Mako smiles. "I feel you there," he says grimly. "We'll see you in the lab tomorrow?"

"Yes you will. Have a good rest of your day, you two."

"Thank you Doctor. You too."

"Good luck."

"Kyaaaaa... can't we just stay home?" Lin groans as her wife pulls her out of their car.

"I promised Tenzin that we would be here. Besides, I never get to see Bumi anymore now that he's moved."

"He didn't move that far," Lin grumbles as Kya shoves the pie she made into her hands.

"Two hours is a long drive for adults as busy as we are. Besides, he's here now, and only for tonight."

"So just get a drink with him later or something," Lin says.

"Lin, we're going. We're already here."

Lin opens her mouth to protest once more, but Kya gives her a stern look. "Okay," she says. When Kya gives orders like this, it's best to just listen. Lin begrudgingly follows her wife into her brother's family's house, taking her shoes off in the main hallway.

"Hello?" Kya calls out from the hallway, "Tenzin?"

Her response is that of a twelve year old yelling and charging at her. Meelo, Tenzin's second youngest, jumps into Kya's arms, and she drops her bag to catch him midair. He's yelling excitedly about something that they can't quite make out. "Hey kiddo! What's going on?" She asks as Lin picks up her bag from the floor and places it on a hook.

"Korra's here! Korra's here!"

Korra? Lin's confused for a moment, and her worst fears are actualised when someone else joins them in the hallway.

"Meelo, you little rascal! Get back here!" A familiar looking young adult walks into the hallways and halts. "Kya? You're Tenzin's sister?"

"Korra? What are you doing here?"

Korra? As in Asami, and Mako's friend? Kya's undergraduate research assistant? Fuck.

"Tenzin invited me around for dinner! His mom-- I mean- I guess your mom is close with my parents, and they asked him to keep an eye on me while I'm in Republic City for school, which is So embarrasing, but Pema makes a mean Sea Prune Stew, so I'm not really complaining-- Oh hi, Doctor Beifong. You probably don't know me, but I'm Asami Sato's girlfriend. She talks constantly about how brilliant you are."

Lin doesn't know what to say. "Uh- Asami's a great student. Excuse me," Lin says, pushing her way through the doorframe to find an open bottle of wine.

"I see you've met Korra," Pema says, handing Lin a wine glass.

"Hmpf. I didn't know that she would be here tonight. I don't want to spend the night hiding my love for my wife. I just want to hold her hand."

"So do it," Pema says. "You're with family, not standing in front of a classroom."

"Yeah, you're right-" Lin turns to the entrance hallway, where Kya and Korra are still talking as Meelo wriggles around in Kya's arms. "Hey babe?" she calls out.

"Babe?!" she hears Korra whisper to herself.

"Yes, dear?" Kya responds with a smile.

"Dear?!"

"Do you want red or white?"

"I'll have red, please," Kya smiles.

Meelo jumps down from Kya's arms and turns to Korra. "Why are you so surprised? They're married!"

"YOU'RE MARRIED?!" Korra stands still, mouth open in shock.

Kya pats Korra on the shoulder and chuckles. "I'll see you in there," she says before making her way to Lin and leaning into her side. "I think we broke her," she says with a laugh.

"Good. That'll show her to try and interfere with our personal lives."

"Everyone will know now."

Lin looks into her wife's eyes and leans in, planting a soft but short kiss on her lips. When she pulls back, she says: "I don't care. As long as I'm with you."
