This fight was a fight to determine the future of the kingdom they protected. Their group was a main part of the plan the King drew up. They all stood there, looking over the notes of the plan that was scattered on the large circle table.”I don’t like this plan.. This is basically a plan where no one survives,” spoke Onyx, the “solider” of the group. Even though Onyx is known as the Solider to all, everyone in the group knew he was more the Poet than the Solider.”I agree. This plan is way to risky. There’s so many things that could go wrong… what is the King thinking Ash?,” said Sketch, looking towards the figure that stood in front of the table.
”What am I supposed to do Sketch? You know the King doesn’t listen to me.. I may be the “King” as well but you know that he controls the soldiers and the battle plans.. I control all the boring stuff,” said Ash, gesturing to the table while adjusting her crown. They all knew Ash hated the “King” of the Kingdom. In reality, the two rule the Kingdom equally because of their parents and their history for some odd reason. While Ash is in charge with all the partying and business side of the kingdom, the other King is in charge with all the military forces of the Kingdom and wars.
I stared at the plan that laid there. The plan was an all out bloodshed in my opinion and most definitely the rest of the groups opinion. The front lines crashing through their lines and all out war to see who survives. Our group was tasked with killing off the main group of mages that would be a huge problem for our Kingdoms military forces. I looked around the table to everyone in the group. Their faces screaming out loud how uncomfortable they were with this plan. But one face stood out to me, that surprised me a bit.
Standing in the back, a bit away from the group stood Sky. She’s basically the one in the group that makes sure no one kills each other. She’s usually in the shadows, watching and making sure no ones planning a surprise attack on another. If the group was described as a tool, Sky would be the rope that makes sure everyone stays put. Her face looked normal, though I could see in her eyes she was afraid as well.
“Anyone have an idea on how to deal with this? Because I’ve got nothing,” said Windy, shaking her head.”I’ve got nothing..”, said Perci, Ash hugging their side while the two stare at the plan.”I’m completely clueless on this Wi Wi,” said Sketch, shaking his head.”I’m with everyone else on this.. Zero clue on how to deal with this suicidal plan that bitch of a King gave us,” said Pumpkin, their arms crossed while they stare daggers at the plan.
Onyx turned to me, we both hold eye contact before we both turn our heads to Sky. Ash perks up, sensing the shift in eye contact and looks at Sky as well.”Sky? Do you have anything? You haven’t spoken at all during the meeting..,” said Ash, slowly moving towards Sky. Even though Ash wouldn’t admit it, the group knew that Sky was someone that Ash looked at for answers. Sky scanned the group, most likely reading there moods and emotions.
Out of everyone in the group, Sky was one of the people that I didn’t know at lot about. Her power or gift as we call it in the Kingdom, is basically a mystery to me. She is always making sure drama doesn’t go further if she’s present, stepping in when she needs to.”I…,” She paused before nodding.”We’re forced to follow this plan because of the King.. but we can always work around it,” Sky said, stepping towards the table.”Please tell me your not going to say what I think your going to say,” said Ash, stepping towards the table as well.
Sky just smiled.”You know me too well Ash.. Once we get there, everyone get into a pair. That way, we can protect each other and also ourselves. Being alone will not help, so try not to be alone,” said Sky, placing her hand on the table. I nodded, the plan sounded simple enough and it made sense. Their were pairs in the group that worked well with each other. For an example, Me and Windy were a good pair together. Ash and Perci also worked well together, though we all know they’re simps for each other.
“There’s a flaw in your plan though Sky Sky..,” said Onyx, looking at Sky. Ash tilted her head, scanning the room before her eyes wided.”And why is Sky’s plan flawed? It sounds alright and there are already good pairs in the group,” said Pumpkin, looking at Onyx confused.
I scanned the group myself. 2… 6... 8... 10… My eyes wided and I turned, looking at Sky, who was looking at the table to avoid eye contact from anyone.
“There’s 11 of us… that means someone’s going to be alone during the mission,” said Sketch, realisation dawning onto him.”Sky… Don’t tell me your going to be the single.. We can be a three!,” said Onyx, gently nudging Sky on the shoulder. Ash walked to Sky and gently shook her, but Sky gently pushed the two away.”Alright stop- There’s a reason why I’m going solo,” said Sky, finally looking up from the paper.”And what is that reason?,” I asked, curiosity though concern eating at me. Sky reached into the pocket on her jacket, before gently placing a piece of paper onto the table.
Ash quickly snatched the piece of paper, scanning what was written on it. Everyone watched as her face changed from confusion to scared.”No… Sky you- you can’t do THIS!,” said Ash, shaking the piece of paper. Sketch gently took it out of her hands while Perci gently hugged Ash from behind.”It’s a solo mission… where the King wants her to… slay the other King?! Sky! This is literally worst than our combined plan!,” said Sketch, waving the paper in front of Onyx for him to take.
“The Other King’s power is literally the power to control blood… He controls people because of it.. What the heck is our King thinking…,” I said, tapping my hand against my thigh while looking at the others.”Well I can’t disobey our King or else I’m getting my head sliced off… and he knows I’m good being a solo.. So I was the best choice for some reason,” said Sky, shaking her head. I could tell just by looking at her there was something more she wasn’t saying… though I knew everyone has their reasons to not explain.”That explains your disappearances lately… and Onyx’s weird obsession over making Brownies-,” said Sketch, nodding.”HEY! My brownies are amazing thank you very much,” said Onyx, crossing his arms.
“Alright we’re getting side tracked. I agree with Sky’s plan though. It’s smart to go into pairs, since we’re all at our strongest… though Sky I’m not letting you go empty handed,” said Windy, crossing her arms. Sky huffs, shaking her head.”Who said I was empty handed? The King maybe a dummy, but he’s smart enough to give me something to help me,” said Sky, shrugging her shoulders. Ash huffs, shaking her head. Perci gently hugged Ash, trying to calm her down. We all know to the full extent, how easily some of the people in the group can get protective. For example, what happened to Cloud and Kylan a few weeks ago.
An explosion went off during a magic competition, injuring some of the guards. Cloud and Kylan were both injured, not badly thankfully but they did have the worst injures. Ash had a full on scream at the people in charge of the competition. Onyx was relaying to me and Windy what she said, and apparently the sentence that made Sketch laugh his heart out was “I will SHOVE a PAN up your butt you won’t be able to SIT on that FLAT ASS of YOURS.” Sky had an interest in pans after that, whenever she was able to she’d use a pan to fight. I do have to admit, the pan is very effective against idiots.
“But what about Ben? He’s one of your soldiers is he not Ash?,” said Kylan, looking at the list of the group. Ash shook her head.”Not for this mission at least… The King wants him to help Mocha and the others with their plan…,” said Ash, sighing. Ben is one of Ash’s soldiers, like Sketch though Ben and Sketch always just act normal around Ash. We all act around normally around each other, so it’s not awkward.”That moron..,” said Windy, shaking her head.
“Calm down. Ben will join us later on. I’ve already talked to the King about him,” said Sky, nodding her head. I didn’t miss how everyone’s eyes lit up a bit. Hope everyone would call it.”Well… since we have finished this meeting… guess what,” said Sketch, grabbing his bag.”What?,” said Onyx, grabbing out a brownie and handing one to Sky. Sketch runs to the door, opening it.”Chicken butt!,” Sketch said, smiling before dashing off. The room fills with laughter suddenly, before people started following Sketch. Most likely either to crack more jokes with Sketch or tell him no.
I sighed, looking at Windy before the two of us just smile. We both walk out of the room, walking after the group. This mission is dangerous… but I’m sure something will come out of this. Either the freedom of the Kingdom or something more.
She looked down at her hands.. they're covered in blood.. her friends and enemies blood.. They looked around, spotting all her friends laying on the floor. They're all dead. No pulses. Their bodies decorated with deep slashes and wounds. The wind is still attacking all the people they deemed at enemy.
They were furious.
All her friends were taken away from her.
What was she supposed to do.
What could she do.
"SCARA!"
They stopped.
They recognised that voice. It was one that they don't hear a lot. But one they knew. They quickly turned around right as someone blocked an arrow from piercing into their side.
"Sky..?"
Her icy colds hands felt nice against their burning hands.. the blood rushing through their ears slowly die down."Scara. Scara! Calm down. It's just me and you. A few of the guards are still alive and still out for blood. Not too many so if we combine our powers we can escape this place.”Sky's hands gently squeezed Scaras. Her eyes were fill of fear.. but also determination. How could she still have Hope to go on.. when all our friends are laying in pools of their own blood. She just smiled at her.. the soft smile she gave to everyone. Sky was close with everyone, close that everyone respected her. Whenever she was angry she would hide away.. she wouldn't let anyone see her cry or scream.
But right now, her eyes were filled with tears.
The Sky that just stood and watched in the background.
The Sky that laughed along with everyone.
The Sky that made sure everyone was safe.
She was standing right in front of them.
As a Human.
Scara slowly nodded their head. It would be impossible to get out of here alive if both of them weren’t careful. They looked at Sky, nodding slowly.”Did you kill their king?,” said Scara, praying at least something went well. Sky looked at Scara, scanning them from head to toe before nodding.”That’s why all their people are going on rampages.. Because they felt their King vanish,” said Sky, sighing.”That makes the most sense.. That also explains why they were all distorted and out of control…,” said Scara, looking down at her hands. It was a surprise to them all… but it wasn’t really. The King was controlling all his people, so once the King was killed… all hell broke loose. Resulting in the death of many… including their whole group except herself and Sky.
“We have to figure out a way to leave! If both Kings are down… who’s going to step up to rule?!,” said Scara, looking around frantically.”Scara! It’s fine. We’ve got this in the bag,” said Sky, gently removing something around her neck before placing it around Scara’s neck. It was a silver chain, with a white crystal.”Keep that on… it’ll help you,” said Sky, nodding before leading Scara off.
The two fought off the remaining guards, trying to make a break through to the camp that they had set up before the war. The more they run, the more the winds slowly grow quiet… It’s strange. The winds are supposed to be loud with the hatred she holds against the ones that took her family away… but they’re quiet. She was about to tell Sky when she was suddenly tackled to the side. Shouting could be heard and a group of soldiers ran right past the pair. Scara looked at Sky, who was eyeing the soldiers while having her hand on her sword.
When the soldiers slowly disappeared, the two slowly stood up.”That was close…,” said Sky, running a hand through her hair. Scara simply nods.”We’re close to the camp… but what will happen now?,” said Scara, looking over to the Blue tents that decorated the hills outside of the ruined castle walls.”What happens now is when we reach the camp, we’ll talk with the King… we have to inform him on all the deaths and the results… and that we’ve won,” said Sky, looking at the tents as well. Scara shook their head.”This doesn’t feel like a victory Sky… it feels like this was for nothing,” Scara said, looking at the dead bodies that decorated the ground.
Sky let out a shaky breath.”I agree… but what’s done is done… and we just have to do our best to make sure they get what they deserve,” said Sky, nodding slowly. The two look at each other before continuing on their journey. The tents growing closer and closer.
They could almost feel the bloodshed end.
The freedom they all deserved.
The freedom they all fought for.
For the future they were all promised.
But good things don’t always happen to the winners.
All of a sudden, a scream is heard and Scara falls over.
Scara slowly opened their eyes.
Their eyes meeting Sky’s brown eyes.
But, they were glowing a light green.
That’s impossible though.
Because their own eyes glowed the same green when they used their magic.
Sky smiled weakly, gently showing Scara the crystal that hanged around their neck. But unlike last time, the crystal was a light pink. The shade of light pink that Scara adored.”I’m sorry Scara… I’m so sorry… I couldn’t bare to watch you get hurt…,” said Sky, tears streaming down her face. They didn’t understand… until they saw something metal poking out of Sky’s chest. Scara quickly backed up a bit to see, and gasped. An arrow was pierced right through Sky’s chest, the arrowhead covered in blood.
Scara felt her chest in shock. There was a hole from the arrowhead…
But it didn’t hurt.
There was no feeling to it.
No pain.
Scara looked at Sky, her eyes quickly filling up with tears.
The final puzzle piece was placed.
Sky was always given the hardest jobs on their missions, basically suicidal in everyone’s eyes.
Sky was always the one to taste test to see if their was poison in something.
Whenever Sky was injured badly, the next day she was completely fine.
Rumours would spread that Sky’s power was something that had to do with Luck or Healing.
Scara thought that Sky’s power was Healing, because that explained why Sky was given all the dangerous missions.
No.
The reason Sky was given all those gruemous and dangerous missions…
It wasn’t because her power was Healing.
Her power was Immortality.
“Sky…,” said Scara, quickly holding onto Sky as she tumbled over. She felt the wound on her chest heal itself, but she was stuck staring at Sky. An arrow in her chest, her eyes looking up at the sky.”SKY WHY?! PLEASE! KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN!,” cried Scara, gently shaking Sky. She couldn’t do anything. She understood why Sky was always in the back. She was making sure everyone was safe. She couldn’t do anything to save them, to heal them. Sky smiled weakly, her eyes shimmered with the tears that fell.”I’m so sorry Scara… I just… couldn’t bare to see you die…,” said Sky, coughing out blood.
“AND YOU EXPECT ME TO WATCH YOU?!,” Scara cried out. All she felt was anger towards Sky, but she also felt sadness. She wanted to be mad at Sky for swapping their powers with a damn crystal. The oldest trick in the book. But she couldn’t help but see that all she wanted to do was save one last person. Sky gently squeezed Scara’s hand.”Promise me your’ll make sure this Kingdom grows…,” said Sky, gently. Scara could see the light in Sky’s eyes fading quickly. Scara nodded, holding one of Sky’s hands with both of theirs.”I will… I promise…,” said Scara, their hands shaking slightly.
Sky’s eyes glowed a light green before she smiles gently.”I’ll make sure we all come find you… just make sure you don’t stray too far out of reach…,” said Sky, her eyes on the verge of closing. Scara’s grip on her hands tighten, not wanting to let go.”I’ll try my best… come find me…,” said Scara, wiping her tears away with her sleeve. Sky chuckled lightly and nodded.”We’ll find you… my friend…,” said Sky, her eyes slowly closing.
Scara felt the weight in Sky’s hand disappear, their two hands keping Sky’s hand up. Scara looked up at the sky, the sun slowly rises from the east. The Sky getting decorated in pink and blue colours. Scara slowly closed their eyes, tears streaming the more they remembered their friends. She had to continue, for her friends and what they did. But at what cost?
A Few Years Later…
She stared at her phone while looking at a book. Her friends were yet again, spamming in the general chat of the server she’s in. It’s annoying enough, they have such similar names to her old friends that it brings back memories. She shakes her head, standing up from the chair they were seated at. She scoops up the books that she was reading, half for her entertainment and the other half for her school.
She walked through the rows and rows of books, all towering over her. She hummed a small tune, one that she remembered from years ago. The light pink crystal dangling from her neck. It wasn’t that hard to blend in this century, of course a few lies were told. But it all worked well in the end.
She suddenly she collided with someone and fell over. The books she held scattered around her.”I’m so sorry!,” said the figure standing in front of her. The figure knelt down, helping pick up the scattered books. Scara slowly stood up, shaking their head.”It’s fine. I wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings… Anyways what-,” said Scara, slowly looking at the figure before freezing. The figure in front of her smiled, brushing the hair out of her face.”Oh! Hey Scara! It’s me Windy! We’re in History together,” she said, smiling.
Scara could feel the air in her lungs leaving her. Someone she watched that also died in her arms stood right in front of her.”Hey… Windy,” said Scara, gently taking the books back from Windy. She gave a nod to Scara before she looked at her phone.”Ah great. Sorry Scara again, but I have to run off,” said Windy, putting her phone away. Scara wanted to see what was going on. If Windy was here… were the rest here as well?
“If I can… I know we’ve just met and all… but can I come with you?,” asked Scara, putting her books into her bag. Windy’s eyes lit up and nods.”You can if you want. Though I will warn you, if you haven’t had anything that will energize you, then your in for a heck of a ride,” said Windy, leading Scara out of the library. The both walk through the twisting halls, each step makes Scara think. If they are her friends… will they recognise her? She didn’t know. But she wanted answers.
Windy gently opened a pair of doors, to a room filled with tables and chairs. The walls decorated in musical instruments and photos of famous musicians. The music room, a room Scara either entered or simply walked past. They spotted a group of people in the middle of the room, where a grand piano stood. Scara felt their heart beat increase in speed a bit, staring at the people.”Ben for the LAST TIME! It’s D minor! Not A minor!,” said a person, standing behind the person at the piano, Ben.”Ash! I know how to read it you know! Your just dumb!,” said Ben, turning to look at Ash. She gasped dramatically.”Now now. You two need to stop before she comes back,” said Windy, crossing her arms.”Onyx is also bringing brownies and idiots don’t get brownies,” said Sketch, holding a guitar.
Scara, scanned the group completely. They were the group she has missed all these years. They were all here… except for two.”Why are they taking so long? The cafeteria is literally down a pair of stages and down a hallway,” said Kylan, twirling a pencil with his fingers.”You know those two tend to get side tracked. Besides they’re probably plotting another story to write,” said Cloud, sitting on a chair next to Sketch.
The doors to the room suddenly opened and shut, walking over were two people.”Sorry for the wait! Some 9th grade students were starting drama in the hallway so we had to take a different route,” said Onyx, handing out a brownie to everyone. Scara gently held the brownie, it reminded them of the time Onyx would hand one out to everyone at completely random times.”Sky thank you! Come and tell Ash that my piano piece is in A minor and NOT in D Minor! PERCI TAKE YOUR STUPID BELOVED,” said Ben, shoving Ash out of the way. Perci gently caught Ash, and honestly holds Ash back from shoving Ben into the piano.
My heart stopped.
Sky looked exactly how she did back then. The only difference is that dark purple glasses rest on her face, she didn’t wear glasses before. Sky slowly looked at Scara, smiling gently. Even after all these years… her smile was the same.”Hey. Your someone new. Did Windy find someone to help deal with the children of the group while I’m busy?,” said Sky, her eyebrows raising while she looks at Windy. She just laughed and nods.”We take History together! We crashed into each other in the Library so I decided to bring Here,” said Windy, crossing her arms.
Sky nods and smiles, gently extending her hand out to Scara.”Welcome to the group I guess. Ash wants to call us the “G Friend Group.” Though I still have yet to figure out what the G stands for,” said Sky, shrugging. Scara stared at her hand.
This was a second chance…
A Second chance to spend more time with their group…
Scara smiled.
And shook Sky’s hands.
The Sky's final words echoed in her mind.
“We’ll find you… my friend.”
