Chapter Text

Jaime wishes they could go two goddamn seconds without something going horribly wrong.  Honestly, it's like the universe hates him personally or something.  Or it finds his suffering amusing.  Khaji certainly does.  He can imagine the smug face it would be making, if it had a face of its own.

The thing is, the mission was going pretty well up until he got punted through a five foot thick steel door and broke three of his ribs.  His head hurts like a motherfucker and Khaji's muttering isn't helping, nor is the weird pulsating light coming from the machine in the corner.  Bart is... somewhere, he's not entirely sure.

<< The Bart Allen is approaching from the west >> Khaji reports blandly.  Right on cue, Bart bursts onto the scene in a crackle of lightning and energy.

"Honey I'm hoooo-ooooommmee!" he crows, crashing into the bad guy with all the fury of a hurricane.  Jaime can't keep the grin off his face, not that he tries very hard to smother it.  Bart tends to have that effect on most people.  On him, at least.

Then his smile slips away as Bart yelps because the bad guy's grappling him, pinning him by the neck.  Fighting against the pain in his head and the heaviness in his limbs, Jaime raises his arm and summons a sonic canon.  The bad guy goes flying, clipping his own machine before smashing through the warehouse wall.

He tries to get up but his broken ribs protest and he collapses onto his forearms.  Out of the corner of his eye he sees Bart rub his neck, face scrunching beneath his goggles in that ridiculously endearing way of his.  He raises an eyebrow at his friend, a silent Are you okay?  Bart sticks his tongue out in reply.  He's about to close his eyes and wait for backup just consider it a win; but then, because they can't have nice things, the machine starts going haywire.

It's like someone's turned the gravity off all of a sudden.  Khaji is screeching something about transdimensional anomalies and particle acceleration but Jaime can barely think around the pounding in his head.  He's moving, reaching out for Bart, when something slams into the back of his skull and everything goes dark.

Chapter Text

Donnie doesn't really do emotions.  He's the science guy, he's all about numbers and quantifiable data.  It's part of the reason he isn't super fond of all that mystic crap.  Too many unknowns, too much left up to interpretation.  He thinks that that's probably the reason Mikey's so good at it.  His nomme de geure is Dr. Feelings for a reason, even if it began as a self-appointed appellation.  He's the only one out of their family besides April who knows how to talk about his feelings and shit.  Donnie prefers to hole up in his lab, Leo sticks to jokes and comedic deflection, and Raph either mother-hens or punches something when things get tough.

And the thing is, it has been tough since the Kraang.  They're all struggling.  Donnie hasn't eaten a square meal in he doesn't even know how long, subsisting solely on coffee and his considerable willpower.  He know Leo's insomnia has gotten worse, knows that Mikey's gotten clingier and Raph's gotten more over-bearing.  Casey just sort of hovers at the edges of their layer, watching them all like they're ghosts and following Leo around like a lost puppy.  He doesn't ask what happened in the future, doesn't want to know.  He thinks he already knows.

That godforsaken key sits in the safe in his lab, taunting him.  He hates it.  Everytime he thinks about it, he remembers the complete and utter emptiness he'd felt when Leo had gone through the portal.  For the first time in his life, he'd been alone and it had scared the everloving shit out of him.  He runs a hand over his face, eyes swimming.  He's so tired, limbs heavy with exhaustion.  He rests his head on his desk.  He's only going to close his eyes for a minute.  He's not going to fall asleep.  He's not.

He wakes up to an explosion.

Chapter Text

Bart feels like he just got hit by a truck.  Again.  He hopes that isn't what happened, he did not enjoy being forced to do things at normal-people speed for two weeks while his bone knitted themselves back together.  Also, he doesn't ever wanna see Blue cry again, never ever.  That had been the worst.

As the ringing in his ears starts to fade he becomes aware of an obnoxious klaxon alarm blaring somewhere nearby.  Ughh, so fricking moded.  He forces his eyes open and his blood goes cold because this is a lab and it's not the makeshift one in the warehouse.  No, this is the lab of a professional scientist.  Bart is intimately familiar with labs, with scientists cutting into his skin and bones and seeing if he can still run- !!!  DON'T THINK ABOUT IT!!

He sees Jaime sprawled out and he's not moving and Bart can't think around the sound of the alarms.

"Donnie!  What's going on man- Uh," an unfamiliar voice says, "What the hell?"

"I don't know, Raph," a second, deadpan voice replies, "I really, truly, do not know what is going on."

"Donnie, Donnie, look!  I think that guy's a superhero!" a third enthusiastic voice says.

"I mean, we're also kinda superheroes Mikey," another voice drawls.

"Nah, we're ninjas," the third voice, 'Mikey' retorts.

Four, his brain supplies, I can take four easy.  Jaime still isn't moving.  He still isn't moving.  His armor is smoking and he isn't moving.  Bart bursts into motion.

One moment, the guy (and yes we are superheroes, shut up Mikey) is lying unconscious and the next moment he's a blur of lightning and yellow and red.  "Fuck!" Leo yelps as the guy blurs across the smoking ruins of Donnie's lab towards the blue buglike yokai lying unconscious on the floor.  Leo's hands fly to his katanas and he sees his brothers tense, ready for a fight.

"Stay away from him," the guy hisses, lightning coming off of him in arcs.  Jeezy fucking creezy it's too early for this shit.

Leo raises his hands in a placating gesture.  "Don't worry my friend, we're good where we are."  That doesn't seem to comfort mystery guy, who tenses up.

"Uh, who are y'all again?" Raph asks.

"Considering hum," Donnie mutters.  Oh great.  Leo knows that voice.  It's Donnie's 'I'm about to pull some wack-ass mad scientist bullshit' voice.  "I've never seen a bug yokai quite like your friend over there."  It's at that moment that the yokai's bug-like blue armor (Leo approves bee-tee-dubs) just melts away for lack of a better term, leaving a normal-ass human in its place.  "Surprised hum.  I've also never seen a yokai do that," Donnie amends.

"I don't know what you're talking about," the guy says.

"Raph is confused," Raph says.

"I second that," Leo mutters.

"So, I think we got off on the wrong foot," Mikey chirps cheerfully.  "I'm Mikey and these are my brothers!  What's your name?"
