Chapter 1: The Burning of a Friendship
Chapter Text
This wasn’t how this was meant to go. None of it was supposed to happen like this. All he wanted was a fair fight, guess he got that fight but didn’t land a single attack.
He had never seen Deku react like this ever. Katsuki wasn’t even looking at Deku, he could only stare at the ground as his ears started ringing. When did that start happening? Oh yeah, when he was punched in the face by Deku.
It all happened so fast, that he couldn’t even tell when the yelling started. He didn’t care, so he silently walked into the changing room and began the process of changing. Starting with his gym top he slowly took it off, looking at all the scars he got from the attacks he had dealt with.
~{OwO}~
It was supposed to be a simple lesson but of course, the two biggest problems children had to start something. Shota had no idea what caused Midoriya to snap, he was too exhausted to deal with this.
Were Bakugou and Midoriya truly rivals? Honestly, at this point, Shota could care less, but what Midoriya said stuck with him. Had the problem child tried to kill himself? He would ask Nedzu if they could do an investigation on the middle school that Midoriya and Bakugou went to.
But for now Shota just left the gym and headed back to the classroom, he couldn’t deal with Iida’s lectures. Lost in thought he had made it to the classroom. He entered it silently and got into his sleeping bag for a well-deserved nap.
~{OwO}~
Izuku had rushed back to the dorms. He thought he was finally getting close to Kacchan, and he did. What a joke that was, Kacchan had no reason to say that. He wasn’t the same worthless Deku as before.
He had entered his room and locked the door behind him, he honestly didn’t care if Iida scolded him later. He just wanted to shut the world out for a while. He just had to get the voices in his head to shut up.
After years of chasing after Kacchan, this was possibly the biggest ‘fuck you’ he has ever gotten. He finally had enough, it took him this long to realize something. That if Kirishima was able to befriend Kacchan that meant that Kacchan was always capable of change. And that Izuku wasn’t worth changing for.
Walking over to a drawer he pulled out a photo album, opening it up he looked through the photos of the two growing up. Izuku finally landed on a photo titled ‘Day We Became Best Friends.’ The photo was of Izuku and Kacchan hugging while wearing flower crowns that Izuku had made. Izuku remembers that day like it was yesterday, it was the day before Kacchan got his quirk.
Izuku knew what was to blame for him losing his best friend, it was that quirk. Izuku never asked to be born without a quirk, all Izuku asked for was to become the greatest hero duo with Kacchan growing up. How naïve he was back then. Kacch- no Bakugou never wanted to be his friend. The sooner he realized this the better.
He grabbed the photo album and threw it away. Bakugou was only holding him back, he didn’t need him anymore. He blocked Bakugou’s number. Izuku needed to get away, he had to.
Since tomorrow was Saturday, he decided to go visit his mom. It’s been a while since he visited her. Maybe this could help him clear his head.
~{OwO}~
The fight was awful, nobody saw it coming. Bakugou and Midoriya were sparing as usual but then it happened. Bakugou was starting to get annoyed that Midoriya was dodging all of his attacks.
“Come on Deku! You seriously can’t dodge me all day!” Bakugou had said as he grabbed Midoriya’s sleeve and was preparing to throw him using his quirk.
Midoriya hadn’t said a single word during the whole match. He reworked his feet and kicked free from Bakugou's grip. Midoriya simply cracked his neck and finally decided to go on the offensive. He powered up One for All at 10% and rushed to Bakugou.
“Yes! Finally! Honestly, you can’t be that useless if you hesitated to even attack me!” Bakugou yelled as his hands started sparking as he got ready to block the attack, Midoriya threw a punch but Bakugou was able to dodge it, “Really Deku? You can’t even throw a good punch? At this rate, you’ll never become the number one hero, your worthless ass will just be a casualty in battle. You know, maybe if you didn’t hesitate to save others, you might be at least an average hero.”
“YOU DIDN’T FUCKING HESITATE TO TELL ME TO KILL MYSELF!” Izuku screamed as Shouto rushed up to him and got a hold of him, he needed to get a clean hit on Kacchan, he just had to.
Everyone else looked shocked as they heard this. Did Bakugou say this? When had he said this? And why? Unfortunately, Midoriya was hysterical, so they couldn’t get any answers from him.
“That was back in middle school! Why’s the big deal about it?” Katsuki had asked as he watched Deku loudly sobbing at this point, “It’s not like you did anything-“
“I did try!” Izuku screamed as he finally broke free from Shouto’s hold on him, running at Katsuki and landing a clean punch to the face.
Bakugou had landed on the ground with a thud, he just sat there and let Midoriya yell at him. Not caring if the others were trying to hold him back.
“I DID TRY! THE ONLY REASON I DIDN’T GO THROUGH WITH IT WAS TO SAVE YOUR UNGRATEFUL ASS!” Izuku finally said as he ran back to the dorms. He couldn’t be around anyone at the moment.
“Poor Deku-kun,” Uraraka said as she watched her best friend run away. She wanted so desperately to go and comfort him, but she knew he needed to cool off. For now, she turned her head to the others as they were all reacting to what they heard differently.
Kirishima was trying to defend Bakugou, saying that it was all in the past. Uraraka knew how close Kirishima and Bakugou had gotten over the year, but it was obviously why Deku-kun was secretly jealous of Kirishima’s friendship with the blonde.
~{OwO}~
Once classes had ended everyone had headed to the dorms, there was a tension in the air from the fight earlier. Nobody knew how to handle it. Bakugou immediately went to his dorm.
Iida had decided to try and lift the tension in the common room by suggesting an activity they could all do together as a class. The class eventually landed on a movie night, so they all gathered around the TV in the common room and started the movie.
Izuku came down the stairs so quietly not to be noticed. He was carrying a cardboard box full of stuff. He opened the front door to the dorms and slipped out. He started walking to Ground Beta so he could destroy the box properly.
Inside the box were all the small things that he and Bakugou made as kids, all before Bakugou got his quirk. The one thing he was excited to get rid of was a note that Bakugou wrote when Izuku got sick when he was 4 years old. Pulling the note out he decided to read it one last time before he destroyed it.
‘Hey Zuzu! The hag said you were sick so we couldn’t play today, if you wanna be a hero with me you have to get better! We can’t be the greatest hero duo if my best friend is sick! Sincerely Kacchan!’
Izuku had held onto this note since the day he got it. He wondered if Bakugou even remembers writing this, probably not.
Finally he had made it to Ground Beta, walking inside one of the fake buildings Izuku made his way up to the roof. Sitting on the ledge of the roof he slowly put the box next to him. He started crying again, he wished he wasn’t such a crybaby. Turning his back to the ledge he pulled out a lighter and burnt the note.
Watching as the letters on the note slowly turned to black was freeing for Izuku, like he was burning his horrible past. He wanted to burn the memories, he wasn’t Deku anymore, and he would never be Deku again. But that was his hero name, he’d have to ask Aizawa if he could change it. It wouldn’t be that hard, right?
The next thing burned was an old orange bunny plushie, small in size with red eyes. Bakugou had gotten it for Izuku on his 5th birthday. Izuku had gotten him a similar plushie on Bakugou’s birthday. Bakugou probably threw that away too. Know Bakugou, he’d most likely thrown out every single gift Izuku ever got him.
Izuku finally decided to just burn the whole box, throwing the lighter into the box he sat there and watched the box burn. To him, it wasn’t the box burning but also all of the pain and trauma that was done to him.
~{OwO}~
Katsuki had finally closed his dorm door, he went and flopped onto his bed. But something felt wrong like something was out of place. Then he saw a single photo on his desk, he sat up and gently grabbed it. Looking at the photo he instantly knew something happened. It was the photo of the day they became best friends, but written over Katsuki in the photo was the word ‘fake’. Who would do that in this photo? The only person he knew who had access to this photo was Deku. But Deku wouldn’t destroy anything of their friendship, right?
Katsuki had to talk to Deku, maybe they could work this out. But in his head, he knew it was impossible. He gently wiped the word off the photo and held it close to his chest, holding onto the only thing he had left of their practically dead friendship.
He grabbed his phone to try and call Deku, but he was shocked to find out that Deku had blocked his number. Now he knew he fucked up. Katsuki sighed as he tried calling Inko, she’d know what to do. He waited for her to pick up only for it to go to voice mail, “H-hey Auntie. I fucked up with De-Izuku…..I can’t get in contact with him, so I was wondering if you could talk to him about maybe meeting up so we could talk this out,” he said while barely hold back his tears, “I just need to talk to him, I wanna fix things between us. But I have no idea how. If you cou-“
Someone had answered the phone, but it wasn’t Inko. It was his mother, Katsuki could hear her sobbing loudly as he just sat there in shock. “Hag? Why are you over at Auntie’s place?”
“Katsuki, Inko’s dead. She passed away this morning,” Mitsuki said as she continued to cry, “I can’t get in contact with Izuku, I tried calling him but he blocked our home number and our cell number.”
Katsuki just froze, Auntie was gone? Just like that? How? He needed answers now. “How did she pass?” He asked surprising himself with how soft his voice was.
“Heart competition, I was on the phone with her when she suddenly collapsed. I rushed over as soon as I could….only to find her gone,” Mitsuki explained, “Me and Masaru are here trying to figure out what to do next, can you tell Izuku?”
“…..I can,” Kastuki said as he rubbed at his eyes, trying to stop crying to no avail, “I can tell Zuku.” He hung up the phone and finally broke down. Inko was dead, just like that. Izuku’s last family member was gone. But he couldn’t face Izuku, which means that he’d have no way of knowing that his mom was gone.

Chapter Text
Katsuki didn’t know how to handle this pain, in one day he just lost both his best friend and his aunt. The worst part? Nobody could find Izuku anywhere. Iida said that he saw Izuku leave the dorms with a box and a lighter. From how Iida described the box Katsuki felt his heart sink.
Izuku was destroying all of the things Katsuki ever got him, fair, but what Izuku didn’t know was that Katsuki kept everything the green-haired boy gave him. Now there was no way to fix their friendship, but he was willing to do anything to try.
With only a gut feeling of where Izuku might be, Katsuki grabbed one gift he never gave Izuku he ran to Ground Beta. He was praying to any god out there that there was a way to fix their broken friendship. What was that thing where you fill in a broken bowl with gold? It didn’t matter, but that was what Katsuki was going for to fix it.
Was it perfect? No. Would it have to do for now? Yes. Katsuki had finally made it to Ground Beta as he ran through the fake city calling out Izuku’s name. He saw smoke on top of one of the buildings and he knew that’s where Izuku was. Running to the roof of the building, he saw Izuku.
~{OwO}~
Izuku hadn’t moved since burning the box, he hadn’t even blinked yet. Then again, how could he? He wanted to watch the memories burn, right? Izuku always believed that there was good in everyone, even villains. His mindset since childhood was that good and evil aren’t born, they’re made.
Hearing the door swing open made him finally blink, looking up Izuku saw who caused him to get distracted. Bakugou? But that didn’t make any sense, didn’t Bakugou hate him? It didn’t matter, after all, Izuku had decided to finally leave behind his friendship with Bakugou.
Something was off though, Izuku for the life of him could not get a hold of his mom. He missed her worried voice always asking if he was being safe at UA, was it annoying? Sometimes. Overbearing? Never. Izuku loved his mom. She only wanted the best for her son, he was her baby boy after all.
“I-Izuku, we need to talk,” Bakugou said as he bent forward to catch his breath. They had to talk? Why does that make no sense to Izuku? What did they have to talk about?
“I’ve said all I needed to, Bakugou,” Izuku said as he calmly stood up ready to leave the roof. Only for Bakugou to grab his hand. “Isn’t this what you wanted? I’m finally leaving you alone, but I guess that’s not enough for you.”
“It’s not about that Izuk-“
“You don’t have any right to call me that, I finally figured out how I lost my best friend,” Izuku said as he looked Bakugou dead in the eyes. Pulling his arm free Izuku turned full to look at Bakugou, “It was your quirk! After you got your quirk, all everyone did was praise you! ‘Katsuki your quirk is perfect for hero work!’ Or a perfect quirk for a perfect hero!’”
Bakugou looked shocked before he hardened his expression as he slowly reached out to Izuku, “half of those praises were from you, so you don’t get to talk on that matter,” he said as he managed to grab Izuku. “I get it, I let all the praise go to my damn head. It caused me to have a bad superiority complex, but I’m changing.”
“Not for me,” Izuku said as he looked Bakugou in the eyes, tears falling down his cheeks and a broken look in his eyes, “I’d admit. I was jealous of your friendship with Kirishima! I thought that if he was able to become you friend so easily,” he took a deep breath before continuing, “then you were always capable of changing. Just I wasn’t worth changing for.”
With that final statement Izuku walked over to the edge of the building and jumped off. Black whip shooting out of his right hand and latching itself to a light post. He’d already texted Aizawa about him going home for the weekend. So that’s where he was headed.
~{OwO}~
Katsuki just stood there, watching Izuku disappear in the distance. No, no no no! This wasn’t how this was supposed to go! Shit! Katsuki realized that he never told Izuku about his mom’s death. Collecting the remains of the box Katsuki left Ground Beta to take the box into his room.
Once he made it to his room he’d try to salvage anything left of the box, unfortunately, there wasn’t much left that could be saved. Expect one.
A small rock that was in the shape of a half a heart. They found it together at a river they used to play at growing up. Izuku had one half and Katsuki had the other. Katsuki had his turned into a necklace. One that he was wearing right that very moment. He never took it off.
He wished things were different, sometimes he wondered what life would be like if Izuku was born with a quirk. He sees the two of them both being as close as ever, or rarely even closer. Blushing Katsuki put the rock next to his bed as he looked through the box some more.
The next item he pulled out had tears in his eyes, a spider lily? Katsuki never gave on to Izuku, but then he saw notes from their time at Aldera Middle School. Reading through the notes almost made Katsuki want to puke. How bad was the bullying? Were people doing much worse to Izuku when Katsuki wasn’t around?
The answer, is yes. He remembers one-day Izuku walking into class with a broken arm. Izuku being Izuku only said that he fell down the stairs at school. But the black eye said differently. It screamed ‘I was just attacked.’ Katsuki later found out that it was one of the lackeys that followed him around back then.
~{OwO}~
Izuku finally made it home, well it wasn’t a home exactly. The apartment was more like it, but it was still home. Opening the door Izuku called out for his mom, only to receive no response instead. Walking in he noticed that all of the photos were gone, did she move? No, she would have told Izuku if she was moving. Continuing to look around it became more clear that something was wrong. Everything was gone, not just photos but everything.
Opening the door to her room he saw that it was like she had just up and vanished, growing more worried Izuku decided to walk down to the front desk to ask about his mom. Surely they would have some information.
The man working at the front desk was a young-looking guy; with dark sun-kissed skin, white hair with gold highlights forming a star shape in his hair, with his hair being pulled back into a bun as the star was front and center, dark orange eyes that looked stern but caring. If Izuku remembered right he had a bullet quirk, he could make tranquilizer bullets out of his saliva. A great quirk for hero work, but the man said that it wasn’t for him.
“Oh hello Midoriya-kun,” the man said while looking up as Izuku walked up to the desk. Setting down the file he was looking at he shifted his full attention to Izuku, “It’s been a while since I saw you, what can I do for you?”
“Hello Jūdan-san, I was coming home to visit my mom when I noticed that our apartment was empty,” Izuku said not missing how Jūdan’s expression shifted from a gently smile to a solan frown, “d-did something happen? I didn’t get any calls from her since a few days ago.”
“Midoriya-kun, I’m so sorry. But your mom passed away only a few hours ago,” Jūdan said sadly as he took off his reading glasses, “She passed because of a sudden heart complication. Bakugou-san was over here earlier to help with Inko’s will and belongings.”
Izuku felt his heart shatter, his mom gone? He couldn’t believe it. He wasn’t ready to be alone, now everyone he loved had either abandoned him or died. His mother was the only one left who kept him smiling, now she was gone. And so was his reason for smiling.
“T-thank you for telling me Jūdan-san, mom always regarded you as a dear friend to us, you were always fair with how we were charged with rent despite me being a late bloomer,” Izuku said as his head fell, the beautiful green that shined in his eyes had faded to an almost sickly green.
Wiping away his tears he felt arms wrap around him as Jūdan hugged him gently. He knew that Jūdan wasn’t a huge fan of physical affection, but Izuku was the only exception.
Izuku finally felt the damn break and tears fell freely from his empty eyes, hugging back tightly Izuku screamed in agony. Crying over what happened in the day, lost his best friend, and then immediately afterward his mom. His only real friend.
Now Izuku was convinced that Uraraka and the others were only his friends because of his quirk. In his broken mind, he couldn’t see that wasn’t true, so he let his mind create this false reality. If only to protect himself.
~{OwO}~
Izuku had returned to the dorms the next morning and hid up in his room. The others had tried to greet him but he’d ignored them. Izuku looked at his room and hated what he saw, his mom had gotten him all of his All Might merch.
With a sad smile Izuku had started talking down every piece of merchandise he owned. Izuku had decided to donate all of the figures to an orphanage and sell everything else. Careful setting the posters in a box and the figures in their box, Izuku looked at his now empty room. This felt better, somehow this felt right. He set up a shrine for his mom next to his desk, he’d knew that she’d want to watch over him at all times.
After redecorating his dorms he laid down on his bed, he had replaced the All Might sheets with black ones. He opened up a small box that his mom gave him the day he moved into the dorms.
Pulling out a locket Inko gave to him, he put it on and held the locket close to his heart. Because inside was a photo of her. So she could be with him at all times. Finally allowing the situation to fully set in, Izuku found himself crying softly until he fell asleep.
Notes:
Thank you so much again for reading this, I know it’s probably not great. After all I am working off of an IPod, so the keyboard is pretty small. Leave kudos and constructive criticism in the comments. I am still fair new to writing on Ao3, but I am learning. Slowly, but I’m learning. And I appreciate everyone for being patient while I work. 🤗🤗🤗
Chapter 3: Raising from the ashes of depression

Chapter Text
Izuku had woken up to the sound of his alarm going off, not wanting to deal with the world he had shut off his alarm. But not wanting to piss off Aizawa, Izuku inevitably got out of bed.
Putting on his uniform Izuku looked in the mirror only to take in his appearance, his hair was wild and unkept, the red puffiness of his eyes a result of him crying all night. Deciding to not deal with the tie he just walked out of his dorm and down to the common room.
Iida had been awake and he’d immediately noticed Izuku coming down the stairs. “Midoriya! Where is your tie? If you lost yours I’d be happy to lend you a spare until you find yours,” Iida said while already reaching into his back pocket for a spare tie.
“Iida…please,” Izuku said his voice void of emotion, “I’m not exactly in the best of moods right now. So I’m not wearing my tie until I feel like myself again, I hope you understand.”
“I see if you ever want to talk. We are always here for you, we’re friends right?” Iida asked while placing a kind hand on Izuku’s shoulder.
“Yeah, I know. I’m just mentally exhausted from yesterday. I don’t think I’m ready to see Bakugou,” Izuku explained while walking to the kitchen to grab some coffee when Uraraka came down.
“Hey Deku!” She exclaimed happily as she walked up to her best friend, “I wanted to check up on you after yesterday. But I noticed that you weren’t in your dorm.”
Izuku didn’t say anything. He couldn’t handle the cheerful energy coming from Uraraka, but he couldn’t bring himself to say anything. He just couldn’t, it reminded him too much of his mom.
~{OwO}~
Izuku had closed himself off from the others, he knew they were worried. He just didn’t need their pity. Huh? He was starting to sound like Bakugou. Great. Just what he needed.
The day was passing by painfully slowly, Izuku just wanted today to be over with! Finally, lunch came and Izuku grabbed his stuff before bolting toward the bathroom. He didn’t know why he came here, but then he felt the familiar handle of a razor.
Gently taking it out he held it in his hand, maybe a few wouldn’t hurt. All Izuku wanted was to feel some emotion. He hadn’t done this since middle school, holding the blade against his right arm he quickly cut.
It was beautiful in Izuku’s eyes, the red of the blood reminding him of all the spider lilies he’d received during middle school. Quickly he added two more cuts to his right arm before he quickly cleaned and bandaged his arm.
All of his hoping was for not, the emotions he wanted to feel never came. Only came more painful memories of Aldera. The most painful memory is when Bakugou had suicide baited him. How could he not forget it? He remembers how close he was to ending it all, it was only one step away after all.
~{OwO}~
Izuku had changed in the bathroom stall, not wanting the others to see his cold eyes. Mineta had pointed them out to the rest of the class. Izuku didn’t care, when did he ever listen to the little grape pervert?
Several of the other came up to him expressing their concerns about him, but he simply just brushed it off with a quick “I’m fine,” and they’d leave it at that. Well most of them at least. Of course, Bakugou had to just stick his nose where it didn’t belong.
“Hey Iz-Midoriya,” Bakugou said while gently walking up to Izuku. The gentleness of his voice didn’t change anything, “I’m sorry about what happened with Auntie.”
Wait! Did Bakugou know this before he did? His goddamn mom was gone! And this bastard dared to talk about it in FRONT of him no less.
“You knew?” That was the only response Izuku gave. His temper was getting extremely thin, “you fucking knew this before I did! I had to find out from Jūdan-san!”
“It’s not my fault that you blocked the hag!” Bakugou argued back without missing a beat. Grabbing the front of Izuku’s hero costume Bakugou had pulled him close. “The hag called me asking me to tell you! Which I tried to do! Only to get yelled at by you!”
“Because you came to me trying to apologize for what you did!” Izuku said as tears started falling down his cheeks, “I didn’t want or need your apology. Not like I would’ve accepted it. If I’m being completely honest Bakugou, my mom died because of YOU! She was barely making enough money to just pay for rent! Your continuation of destroying my uniforms was hard on her! Her job was paying her less than minimum wage! Because her son was FUCKING QUIRKLESS! I never asked to be born quirkless. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t born at all.”
With that Izuku broke free of Bakugou and walked off to join the others, hiding his tears from the rest so he could continue to appear strong. He had to, it’s what his mom would have wanted. To see her baby grow up to be a strong pro hero.

Chapter Text
Even since Izuku was little, all he ever wanted was to be a hero. Especially like his papa, and All Might. Every day when Hasasi came home from his agency he would hang out with Izuku. Hasasi was known as the the dragon.
Then one day, papa just stopped coming home. Mommy had said that Papa had gone away. Izuku had believed it until he saw the news report. He was in the middle of his favorite All Might show when it cut away to a news channel.
The Dragon: dead.
“This just in,” the news lady said as she looked down in sadness, “the fire breath hero: Dragon, was killed today in the line of duty. He was in the middle of a human trafficking raid when he was killed.”
Izuku felt his world shatter. His papa was gone. But he knew that if he got his papa’s quirk, then he could continue his legacy. All Izuku had to do was wait.
~{OwO}~
“It’s not going to happen, kid,” the doctor said in an empathic tone, “time to give up on your dream.”
His toy of his papa fell out of his hands as he felt his world flip upside down. Now he could never be like his papa, guess the universe has decided to give Izuku the worst life possible. But he wouldn’t give up. His papa didn’t, and neither will he.
“I’m not giving up on my dream!” Izuku had stated in full confidence at his declaration, knowing that his papa was watching over him gave Izuku a new wave of determination to be like his papa.
“Izuku, sweetie. You don’t have a quirk, I think the doctor was right,” Inko had said gently, trying to get her son to understand that it’s impossible for a quirkless hero.
“No! If Papa didn’t give then I won’t either! He always told me that I could be a hero! He even said that there are heroes that fight quirkless,” Izuku stated as he looked at his mother with stars in his eyes.
~{OwO}~
His best friend Kacchan, got his quirk. It was called explosions. Izuku thought it was so cool, but then Kacchan started using it on him. Is that what heroes do? No! Izuku knew better, papa said that heroes are supposed to protect the innocent.
All Izuku could do was try and ignore the bullying. No matter what happened Izuku would keep his head up and push on with his dream. Even if the whole world was against him. It didn’t matter. Izuku would be a hero, he would make his papa proud.
Then again, that was a thing Kacchan would bring up while bullying him, constant jabs at how Hasasi had died being a hero, or how he died to get away from his worthless son. Those hurt more than Izuku would like to admit.
~{OwO}~
How could Kacchan say that and still want to be a hero? No hero would ever tell someone to kill themselves. Deciding that it didn’t matter anymore Izuku went home. Maybe Kacchan was right? Would his papa have been more proud if his son had a quirk? No! He couldn’t think like that! He knew it was wrong. His papa said that he would be proud of Izuku no matter what happened. He was still going to be a hero.
OH MY GOD! Izuku had just met All Might! The All Might! He was freaking out! He had to ask if he could be a hero! All he could do was just do something dumb and hope for the best.
Even All Might said it, you need a quirk to become a hero. Izuku didn’t know what he was expecting at that point. But right then and there. It felt like his papa was calling to him, begging him to stay strong, to keep fighting. But Izuku couldn’t hear it, he leaned against the railing of the building and looked out into the cityscape.
Maybe his death would be quick and painless. He was just climbing over the railing when he heard it. Was that? Yep, that was an explosion. What was Kacchan doing now?
~{OwO}~
Turns out Kacchan was busy being held captive by the same villain that had attacked him earlier. Great! Just fucking perfect. But Izuku noticed how none of the heroes didn’t even move. Oh HELL no! Moving on his own, Izuku rushed into the scene to try and save Kacchan. His papa taught him that every hero’s origin story is the same, their bodies move before they can think. Throwing his backpack at the villain’s face he’d managed to distract it long enough for Kacchan to breathe.
“Deku what the fuck!” He’d yelled as he coughed up some sludge, “I don’t need your he-“
“It’s a hero's job to save and protect the innocent!” Izuku had screamed in Kacchan’s face, “That’s what Dragon did! And that’s what I’ll do! As his son! I’ll save those who need it the most!”
~{OwO}~
Izuku sat on his bed in the dorms as he remembered his past, his goal was still the same, making his papa proud of him. But now, Izuku didn’t even know if he could. With now BOTH of his parents gone, he had nobody. No one to go to when he needed advice, no one to let him cry on their shoulder.
But he did have someone now, he had All Might! But not just All Might, he also had Aizawa as well. So he quietly got up and started walking over to the teacher’s dorms to talk with Aizawa. He knew that he couldn’t let his grief control him anymore.
Chapter 5: The sparks of a new family.
Chapter Text
Izuku had no idea how to tell his homeroom teacher about his predicament, what was he supposed to say ‘Hey Aizawa, my mom just died and I have no idea what to do or where to stay,’ that could work. But he didn’t want to go through the emotional damage again.
Knocking on the door to the teacher’s lounge Izuku wasn’t expecting Aizawa to open the door. “Mr. Aizawa, do you think we can talk in private? It’s kinda important-“
“If this is about why you’ve acting so dead inside all day then great,” Aizawa said as he slowly walked out of the teacher's lounge and headed to the classroom, “it’s lunchtime now so nobody will be in the classroom.”
“Perfect, because…I-I uh, I don’t know who else to talk to,” Izuku said as he caught up with Aizawa when they both entered the classroom, “a lot of stuff has been going wrong lately. I just needed to get away.”
“I heard about your mom, I’m so sorry you had to go through that. No kid should have to deal with that,” Aizawa said as he grabbed his sleeping bag, “I already talked to Tsukauchi about this. And I activated my emergency foster license.”
“You did? When? Why?” Izuku asked looking dumbfounded at his teacher, did Aizawa want him? Izuku knew he’d only be a burden to his teacher.
“I did it because I care,” Aizawa said as he looked over at Izuku, “I do have one question though, where is your dad?”
“He- um he died when I was three,” Izuku said while he gently rubbed at the arm where he cut himself, “he was a pro hero, Dragon. You might’ve heard of him.”
“We went to UA together, your dad was a good person. I even asked him why he wanted to be a hero, his answer was so different from every other person whom I asked,” Aizawa said as he pulled out his phone to show Izuku a photo of the rooftop squad plus Izuku's dad.
“What was his answer?” Izuku asked when he gently took the phone from his teacher. Izuku only now realized how much he looked like his dad.
“He wanted to save people. He never wanted the money or the fame. Just to save the innocent lives around him,” Aizawa explained as he smiled gently at the greenette in front of him, “I see so much of him in you. Mainly your stubbornness to protect others even if it gets you injured.”
~{ÙwÚ}~
Walking inside of Aizawa’s home had been a weird experience, Izuku had been tense since they left UA. But his anxiety melted away when he felt something rubbing against him, looking down Izuku saw a huge cat.
“That’s Moon,” Aizawa said while he set down some of Izuku’s clothes. Picking up Moon gently Aizawa handed her off to Izuku, “She’s a maine-coon.”
“She’s so soft,” Izuku said as he gently petted the cat, Moon had started purring and rubbing her head against Izuku’s face.
Izuku gently put the cat down to start unpacking his things, which to Aizawa’s surprise Izuku didn’t have any of his All Might merchandise, “where’s your All Might stuff?”
“I sold the posters, and I donated the figures to a nearby orphanage,” Izuku said as he smiled softly at the memory of how happy the children were when Izuku dropped off the figures, “my mom got all of my All Might merchandise so I gave it up. I’m kinda glad I did, I’m growing up. I needed it, to grow up I mean.”
“I see,” Aizawa said too stunned to say anything else, it’s not like he could say anything. This poor kid went through so much in only one day! First that massive fight with Bakugou, and then losing his mom literally on the same day.
~{ÙwÚ}~
Katsuki had locked himself up in his room as soon as he got home, classes were canceled for two days so Katsuki had decided to head home for the next two days.
Getting up Katsuki walked over to his walk-in closet, going inside he started looking for the box full of stuff that Izuku gave him while growing up. Looking through the box he found what he was looking for, a burnt notebook, ‘Hero Analysis for The Future N.13’ was written on the cover.
Going back over to his bed he sat down and opened up the notebook, going through the book showed that the first few pages were all about him. Noticing one thing that was constantly mentioned, words that made Katsuki sick to his stomach. Scribbled across one of the pages were the words ‘USELESS WORTHLESS DEKU!’ and ‘WHY CAN’T I DIE!’
Quickly closing the notebook Katsuki threw it to the ground, tears were stinging in the corners of his eyes as he tried to calm himself down. It wasn’t working. Clutching at his chest Katsuki tried to control his breathing, but he couldn’t.
After a few minutes Katsuki got control over his breathing, calming down he grabbed the box again. Coming up with an idea that might get Izuku to talk to him again, but he’d need to get the help of the entire class. If they’d even help him, all Katsuki could now pray.
Chapter 6: The starting flames of healing
Summary:
One more chapter!?! I wanna finish this one and then The Happiness of A Spark, before I more onto another Angst fic! It’s a mean class 1-A story, bullied Midoriya Izuku, and All Might BASHING!
Chapter Text
Izuku had laid down on his new bed, Moon curling up next to him while purring loudly. Raising a shaking hand Izuku started petting the cat, “Should I try talking to Bakugou? He seemed almost remorseful,” Izuku said talking to himself, looking up at the ceiling before sighing, “I’ll have to sort out my feelings before talking to him. But I will talk to him.”
Getting up from his bed Izuku looked in the mirror while messing with his hair, maybe a haircut would help. But now the question was what style? Izuku has always wanted an undercut, that could work. Nodding to himself Izuku walked out of his new room with Moon following behind him “Aizawa, can I ask you something?”
“Sure kid,” Aizawa said while starting dinner.
“I wanna get an undercut,” Izuku said as he sat down at the table.
“Sure,” Aizawa said while he started to set the table, “we can go after dinner.”
~{ÙwÚ}~
Katsuki was pacing in his room, he was making sure that his plan would at least get Izuku to talk to him. That’s all Katsuki wanted at this point, just a chance to sit down and talk with Izuku. This would work, Katsuki had made sure of it.
His plan was simple, to show Izuku that he had kept all of the sentimental things from their childhood. Katsuki would start small, that All Might keychain that Izuku gave Katsuki on his 3rd birthday. He’d hooked the keychain to his bag, making sure that it would be visible to Izuku.
Nodding at his work Katsuki got ready for classes, deciding to put his ego aside Katsuki slipped on the uniform tie. God did he hate ties, it reminded him of the sludge villain. That almost killed him if it wasn’t for Izuku, damn. Katsuki should thank Izuku properly for saving his life.
~{ÙwÚ}~
Sitting down in his seat Katsuki waited patiently for Izuku to walk into the classroom, messing with his dumb tie while he waited. Deciding his tie was too boring to play with Katsuki grabbed his homework and finished it. Only looking up when heard gasps coming from the girls, what Katsuki saw shocked him. Izuku with an undercut!
“Deku-Kun! You look so good with an undercut!” Uraraka said as she played with Izuku’s hair, “And your hair is somehow still as fluffy as ever!”
“Thanks Uraraka, I got this done last night. My mom would talk about me getting an undercut, I’m glad I went through with it! My head feels a lot lighter,” Izuku said rubbing the back of his head before looking over at Todoroki, “what’s up Todoroki?”
“You talked about your mother in the past tense,” Todoroki said not missing a beat. Todoroki meant well, Izuku knew that much. But he was a little emotionally stunted, so he didn’t know how to read social cues.
Taking a deep breath Izuku smiled sadly before speaking, “That’s because a few days ago. My mom passed away,” Izuku said as he looked at his locket, “she died due to a heart condition.”
“I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t have said anything,” Todoroki tried to apologize to Izuku but he was cut off by said boy.
“It’s okay Todoroki, I know you mean well. Besides, I’m healing in a much better environment,” Izuku explained as he noticed Katsuki watching him, “I’ll be right back.”
Walking over to Katsuki’s desk Izuku sat down in his seat, “hey, Bakugou,” Izuku said calmly not trying to start a fight with the blonde.
“Hey Midoriya,” Katsuki said back as he looked up at the green-haired boy, “look I’m so sorry about everything that I did growing up.”
“I know, but at the moment, I’m figuring out my feelings about all of this,” Izuku said smiling softly at the blonde, “I think for now, the best option for the both of us. Is to wait and see what happens.”
“Agreed, does that mean I can take off the tie?” Katsuki asked looking at the tie as it offended him, seeing Izuku nod Katsuki ripped off the tie and threw it out the window, “thank god! Because fuck ties. They remind me too much of that D.I.Y slime guy, and thanks for saving me from him.”
“I didn’t exactly save you from him,” Izuku said looking down at his scared hand, “all I did was buy you some time to breathe, even then it wasn’t enough time.”
“It was plenty of time,” Katsuki said as he pulled out a note from his bag, “my parents watched the attack as it was happening. When I got home they wouldn’t shut up about how thankful they are of you, according to them. You are their hero.”
“I am? I didn’t even know that they said that,” Izuku said as he gently took the note Katsuki gave him, “I’ll unblock them.”
“Why’d you even block them in the first place?” Katsuki asked turning around in his seat to look directly at Izuku, “They tried calling you the day Auntie passed, but they couldn’t get through.”
“I think I did it because I knew you’d try to get in touch with me through them,” Izuku said as he gently opened up the note, “I might have overreacted just a tiny bit.”
“I noticed that you got rid of your All Might stuff, how come?” Katsuki asked genuinely curious about the answer.
“I got rid of it because it reminded me just how much mom loved me, I didn’t throw anything away. I just sold all the posters, and donated all of the figures to an orphanage,” Izuku said as starting to silently read the note, “Turns out that the 10th-anniversary poster for All Might went for a lot of money.”
“Yeah? What are you going to do with Auntie? She and Ma never really talked about funeral plans,” Katsuki said before continuing, “I know Ma wants a goddamn Viking funeral, whatever that is.”
“Viking funerals are when you place the dead body on a wooden boat and you set the boat on fire,” Izuku explained finishing up reading the letter, “And for mom, I’m not sure. I could do what we did with Papa.”
“That’s the first time you brought up Uncle Hasasi in a while,” Katsuki said before remembering something he did want to give Izuku, “Auntie did say that she wanted you to have something of his.”
“What? She kept most of his things in a safe, but I wonder if Auntie Mitsuki knows the code to it,” Izuku said as he started to go into a muttering storm until he saw what Katsuki was holding, “is that his mouthguard?”
“Yep,” Katsuki said as he handed it over to Izuku, “And yes Ma does know the code to the safe, she said she’ll give it to you on your birthday.”
“It’s in perfect condition, Aizawa is going to love seeing this again,” Izuku said as he held the guard in his hands.
“They knew each other?” Katsuki asked surprised by what he heard, “how and why?”
“They went to UA together,” Izuku said as he got up from his chair to hug Katsuki, “thank you, this is the best thing you ever did.”
“You're welcome Midoriya,” Katsuki said as he hesitantly hugged back, not wanting to hurt Izuku again. But they were making progress! That made Katsuki smile brightly.
~{ÙwÚ}~
Dear Izuku,
If you're reading this then it means I died in the line of duty. I told Inko to hold onto this for me until you got into UA, I knew you had it in your son. On my deathbed, I was told about you being quirkless. Know that changes nothing between us.
I think you will be a terrific hero, and I know that you will live by my ideals. Those of saving everyone you can no matter what. I know you also looked up to All Might, and I’m sure you’re going to make him so proud of you if you ever meet him.
Inko is also so very proud of you Izuku, I know because I am. You have this ability to just inspire all those around you. You’ve inspired me to be the hero I was, and I know you’ll inspire those who come after you.
Love your papa, Hasasi.
Chapter 7: The rise of the Phoenix of friendship.
Summary:
Last chapter! Also happy birthday to Bakugou Katsuki!
Notes:
Thank you to everyone who decided to read this story! I wasn’t actually expecting it to blow up like it did but here we are.
Chapter Text
Katsuki was happy, it had been a week since he had talked to Izuku. It was great! Izuku started calling him ‘Kacchan’ again, that was the one the third day of them talking again.
Katsuki was preparing for Izuku’s birthday, which was only in three days. Finding the safe was easy enough, but getting the code for it was not easy. Mitsuki prided herself on keeping Inko’s secrets.
But Katsuki knew she’d cave when she learned that this was for Izuku, she loved Izuku like he was her son. Not that Katsuki would mind if his Ma straight-up adopted Izuku. That was an idea actually, “Hey Ma!” Katsuki had yelled downstairs to get her attention, “I might have an idea for a gift for Izuku!”
“What is it brat?” Mitsuki asked, she and Katsuki’s relationship has always been like this, Mitsuki was more of a tough-love type of mother. Not that Katsuki didn’t mind or anything.
“I was thinking that maybe you could adopt Izuku,” he said coming down the stairs with the safe in his arms, “it is Izuku’s birthday in three days.”
“Hmmm, maybe. I’ll see what your father thinks,” Mitsuki said as she left to go get her husband, Masaru was the exact opposite of his wife, quiet and shy. Coming back into the room Mitsuki looked pleased with herself, “Masaru said that he’ll get the papers from your homeroom teacher.”
“Perfect, also what’s the code to this damn safe! Izuku’s going to need it for when he opens it up,” Katsuki said as he gently put the safe on the table, “it’s full of Uncle Hasasi’s stuff.”
“Right, I’ll get that ready for him, maybe we’ll put the adoption papers inside of it,” Mitsuki said as she quickly opened the safe and wrote the code down on a piece of paper, “here’s the code. Maybe put in a card wishing him a happy birthday.”
~{ÙwÚ}~
Three days have passed and it was now Izuku’s birthday. Katsuki quickly slid the card under Izuku’s dorm door before leaving. He was going to make Izuku his favorite breakfast for his birthday. Thank god it was a Saturday.
Katsuki made quick work on Izuku’s breakfast, which was a simple chocolate chip pancake. He made it the same way Inko did. Walking upstairs to Izuku’s room Katsuki slowly opened the door and quietly walked inside.
“Izuku, wake up,” Katsuki said quietly as he gently shook Izuku’s shoulder, “Happy birthday.”
Izuku shot up at that before looking at Katsuki and yawning, “Good morning Kacchan, is that breakfast for me?” Izuku asks while stretching his tired muscles, “Wait is it chocolate chip pancakes?”
“Yep, made them just like how Auntie Inko did,” Katsuki said while handing Izuku the plate, “your birthday card is by the door, I’ll quickly head to my room to get your gift.”
Katsuki got up to leave, but before he could Izuku stopped him, “Thanks Kacchan, this is going to be the best birthday day ever!”
“Yeah it will, little bro,” Katsuki said before walking out leaving Izuku confused at the statement, smiling softly Katsuki made it to his dorm and got safe.
~{ÙwÚ}~
Izuku sat on the floor of his dorm when Katsuki got back with a giant box in his hands, “what’s that Kacchan?” Izuku asked looking up at Kastuki.
“It’s your gift nerd,” Katsuki said while sitting down siding the box over to Izuku, “the card has the code for your gift.”
“Oh is it the safe?” Izuku asked while opening the gift to find the safe, “It looks just like I remember it.” Opening the safe with the code Izuku started crying at what he read, inside the safe were adoption papers that were already signed by Mitsuki and Masaru. “That’s why you called me little bro!”
“Yep, it was my idea to have you as my brother,” Katsuki said as hugged Izuku close to him, “it was actually in Auntie’s will that we become siblings.”
“I love you big brother,” Izuku said hugging Katsuki back while smiling happily for the first time in what felt like years.
“I love you too, little bro,” Kastuki said as he closed his eyes and thanked whatever god out there that this had worked out in the end.
