* Bzzz! * * Bzzz! *

The sound of a scroll vibrating in quick succession jolted Jaune awake. Jaune groaned quietly, the edges of his dream already fading from his memory as he looked around for the cause of his abrupt awakening. Finally finding it in the source of his own scroll on his pillow, Jaune reaches out to open it, squinting his eyes at the brightness of the screen before his sight adjusted. Silently scoffing at the time displayed on his scroll (‘ seriously, who would willingly be awake at four in the morning,’ he thought), any annoyance Jaune had immediately faded away once he noticed that the notifications he had received were actually two text messages from one Ruby Rose, his girlfriend and fellow leader at Beacon Academy.

Crater Face: * Hey.. * the first text read.

Crater Face: * Are you awake? * The second text followed.

Jaune furrowed his brows in concern before replying.

Vomit Boy: * I am now, what’s up? *

Immediately three little dots that indicated a person is typing appeared, proving that Ruby was still staring at her scroll, hoping for a response, which concerned Jaune even more. Ruby isn’t usually awake at this hour, Jaune thinks. Or at least, he hopes she isn’t usually awake at this time of night ( or is it technically day now , he wondered) because if she is, then she must drink a worrying amount of coffee for her to not show any signs of exhaustion during the day. Before he could finish that train of thought, Ruby’s response was sent. Well, multiple responses were sent actually, and each one of them were sent before he could even begin to respond.. Man, I forgot she texts just as fast as she speaks sometimes, Jaune thought.

Crater Face: * omg so sorry for waking u up!! I didn’t mean to, i swear i just thought you’d be awake too but considering the time that was pretty stupid of me *

Crater Face: * go back to sleep Jaune, don’t worry! *

Crater Face: * what i wanted isn’t more important than you getting as much rest as possible *
Crater Face: * again, sorry for waking u up 😅 *

Jaune frowned, the concern he already felt growing even more at Ruby’s responses. Something they both had in common was how self-deprecating they could be, and while a part of Jaune appreciated having someone know and understand exactly how he felt, the rest of him hated seeing Ruby put herself down in any way, shape, or form. He quickly sent a response just in case she was preparing to put her scroll away.

Vomit Boy: * First of all, you’re not stupid! Never was and never will be. Sometimes I do pull all-nighters, so thinking I’d be awake is pretty fair. Second, don’t apologize for waking me up! I’ll never mind if it’s you, Ruby. Anything you need, any time of day or night, I’ll gladly be there. I promise, and you know an Arc never goes back on their word! *

Crater Face: * Wow… *

Crater Face: * ...Thanks, Jaune. That really means a lot to me ♥️ *

Crater Face: * I promise I’ll gladly be there for you no matter what, too! *

Jaune sighed in relief, glad that Ruby was still there and even more relieved that she felt better, or at least he hoped she did. But, just for good measure, he prepared a response that’ll definitely lighten the mood.

* Anytime, Crater Face. * Jaune smirked as he sent that text, he can easily imagine Ruby groaning out loud over the nickname.

Unbeknownst to Jaune, he was right. Across the hall, in team RWBY’s dorm, Ruby had opened her mouth to groan before she remembered how late it currently is and quickly moved to stifle the sound lest she risks waking up her sleeping teammates and incurs their wrath. Glancing around, she was relieved to see that her teammates were still asleep, and realized that with the way Yang was snoring she probably didn’t have to worry too much about any noises. With that small crisis averted, however, she turned her attention back to her scroll, and more importantly, back to texting Jaune.

Crater Face: * wow, way to ruin the moment Vomit Boy. It was such a touching moment too. smh *

Mission accomplished , Jaune thought. He texts back, * haha, anyway, what did you originally want to talk to me about? *

Crater Face: * Oh, I just…you know what? Nevermind, we kinda ended up talking about it already just now… *

Vomit Boy: * We did?? *

Crater Face: * yeah, I just. *

Crater Face: * The self-doubt was really strong tonight, but even without really trying you helped me feel a lot better. *
Crater Face: * you’re pretty good at that *

Jaune blushed at the compliment, but then paid attention to Ruby’s comment about her self-doubt.

Vomit Boy: * Well, I’m really glad I could help! *

Vomit Boy: * But Ruby, just remember what I said earlier, alright? No matter what, you can always come to me about anything. *

Crater Face: * I’ll remember, Jaune. Just as long as you remember you can do the same with me! *

Vomit Boy: * It’s a deal then, we’ll both make sure to go to each other when we need someone to talk to. *

Vomit Boy: * It’s getting very late though, we should both get some sleep. *

Crater Face: * oh god you’re right, it’s almost 5 in the morning *

Crater Face: * good thing it’s a Saturday lmao *

Crater Face: * goodnight, er, good morning Jaune lol *

Jaune snorted quietly.

Vomit Boy: * good morning, Ruby *

Vomit Boy: * sweet dreams *

Relieved that Ruby was okay now, Jaune put his scroll away and settled back down into his bed, hoping he could fall back to sleep quickly so he could have at least a few more hours of rest before he’d truly start his day.

In Team RWBY’s dorm, Ruby was doing the same, with the added gratefulness of having an amazing boyfriend like Jaune.

Both leaders fell asleep with small smiles on their faces.
