Chapter Text
You stumbled into your room, exhausted both mentally and physically from the day’s battle. Closing the door, you allowed your heels to lift off the ground, and a tiny giggle to escape your lips. Guess it was time for regression and relaxation. With a wide smile on your face, you kneeled beside your bed and began to search for the certain shoebox that held all of your little gear.
You couldn’t find it.
You moved your hand under the bottom left side of your bed over and over again. Nothing. You peeked your head underneath to try and make out the shape of a rectangular box. Again, nothing.
Huh.
Maybe it was in the top left corner? You moved over and looked under that spot, moving your hands to feel for the box. Also nothing.
With a pout you began to search for the box in other places around the room. (Even though you know better to not put it anywhere besides under your bed) You searched under your desk, you ripped out clothes from your drawers, you even looked on the tippy top shelf in your closet. It was gone, It was almost like someone stole it.
Uh oh.
You slumped next to your bed and panic began to seep into your veins as you imagined who exactly stole it. It’s not like you can just go around saying ‘Hey! Who broke into my room and stole a very important box, filled with very personal stuff!” It wouldn’t take to much of a dirty mind to think you were a pervert. So who stole it?
Then it came to you. That damned note that was left on your door this morning. You hadn’t really even read it, you just saw the messy signature at the bottom that indicated that Medic had been in your room. It’s not like you cared if he went in there. Oh what an idiot you were.
You took it out of your pants pocket and read the note carefully.
‘Y/n, I certainly hope you don’t mind, but I forgot a surgical tool when we cleared out your living space, I looked but couldn’t find it, please notify me if you happened to come across a miniature bone saw.’
-Medic
‘Of course he had it’ You thought to yourself. You hadn’t even been in this base a month and you knew just how sly and nosy he could be.
A flush ran to your face as you imagined all the things he would say and do whenever you went to retrieve it. Humiliation, degradation, you imagined being ridiculed for having a pacifier and stuffed bear by the mad doctor.
You eventually decided that you would not go and get it right away, but instead wait until morning when everyone was in the respawn room and you could easily just slip away for a moment before the battle started. Retrieve box from Medic’s office, hide it better, and forget this ever happened. Bam. Success.
The more you slipped into your headspace however, the more that plan sounded unbearable. And god knows you’re weren’t the most patient little. You wanted your paci and teethers, you wanted your baby blanket, you wanted your teddy bear.
You were just gonna have to tough it out.
Spacing out and curling up on your bed, you found yourself gnawing on your forearm, leaving a nasty bite mark. Ok. You needed that box, or at least just your pacifier and tiny black bear plush. But just then you heard the unmistakable yelling from Soldier that dinner was ready.
After dinner then. You needed to eat.
Dinner was nothing short of a nightmare. Not only were the sounds of chairs moving, chatter, and people eating almost unbearable as you tried to ignore how icky your veggies tasted, or how you would rather be drinking apple juice from a bottle rather than water from a grownup glass. At least put it in a sippy cup. You did get through it, however, and crashed into bed the second you walked into your room, mentally preparing yourself to face the doctor that held all of your gear captive.
You pulled on your pajamas, which consisted of a plain t shirt and flannel bottoms. Trying to convince yourself you were just going to bed and not about to be shamed for needing a pacifier to calm down sometimes. Took a shower, brushed your teeth, went to the bathroom, blah blah, typical night routine.
It was over much to fast though, and soon your were standing outside of the medbay, debating whether or not you go without your comfort objects for one night. The teeth marks that littered your left arm quickly reminded that you could not.
You quietly opened the large door and peeked your head inside to the doctor heavily focused on cleaning the heavy amounts of dried blood that made the space smell of coppery salt. A smell that still left a faint scent in your room. Good he was busy and even better you spotted your shoebox! It was right on the edge of his desk, just across the room from where you were standing.
Ok you could do this. While on your tiptoes you crept over to his desk, feeling like a sneaky little mouse grabbing some of the humans food. You grabbed the box and turned to leave when you felt a firm hand on your shoulder. Crap. You slowly looked behind you, face more pale than a ghost’s, to the man that seemingly appeared behind you.
With a bit of a jolt you turned yourself around to face him directly, you tried to avoid his gaze that was held by a plain expression.
“Y/n,” He said, a condescending tone dripping off his voice.
“Doc, please, I-I need it.” You squeaked, hopelessly trying to puff up your chest. Feeling small underneath his eyes, even if he was only a head taller then you.
“You do?” He said, cocking his head to the side. “How so?”
How so? Didn’t he open it?
Unable to find the words, you were considering making a run for it, but found yourself frozen in place.
“Here, how about you give me ze box and ve vill haf a little talk.” Medic said putting his hands on the box and trying to ease it out of your shaky grip.
“Uh uh.” You pouted, cursing yourself for how childish you sounded. Which was weird considering the fact you had childish items stored away in your room was what got you into this mess.
“Y/n, give me ze box.” He said again in that authoritative yet oddly gentle voice.
He eventually got it out of your grasp and may as well have just lead you by the hand over to a spare office chair. You sat down and resisted the urge to spin around in it.
“Now, y/n, do you mind telling me vhy you have such items?” He asked, continuing to finish cleaning. You made note of just how many times he said your name. Maybe it played into the whole condescending nature of this conversation and really this whole ordeal.
“Oh, it’s um my little gear.” You mumbled, dropping your head and looking at your dangling feet.
“I’m sorry, vhat vas zhat?” He asked washing his hands in the Medbay’s sink.
“They’re for age regression,” You explained, still with your head down. “it’s a coping mechanism where you pretty much revert to the mind of a small toddler or baby.” You rambled on, wondering if he could even hear you over the running water.
“I see, und who takes of you?” Medic asked drying off his hands, looking at you directly with a smirk starting to crawl across his face.
“Eh?” You never thought about having someone to be your caregiver, guess it would make sense though.
“Vell all I’m saying is, it seems a bit irresponsible to leave someone that’s in such a small mental state by themselves.” He said as-a-matter-of-factly getting a bit closer, quite obviously pointing that statement at you.
You dropped your head to think again. It would be nice to be taken care of, but you’ve gone without one for so long, you doubt you’d be able to adapt. Plus it’s not like he was suggesting that he would be your caregiver. Or maybe he was, you couldn’t tell.
“I’ll make you a deal,” He said making a tsking sound with his teeth, setting the box back on his desk. “I can be your caretaker.” He continued, looming over you and at the same time dropping a complete bombshell completely out of the blue. Leaving your mouth agape. Huh, guess he was.
“Ok? What does that mean, for you? You were trying to sound like you weren’t in shock, looking up at him from your chair. You knew what it meant for you, but for him? You also knew damn well that he probably wasn’t doing this for you, it was very clear that he was going to be getting something out of this. You wondered what
“Vell it means that you get a caregiver, und I get a new behavioral study, just for tonight at least.” Ah, there it is, so you were gonna be an experiment. Still, the whole thing did sound intriguing and having a caregiver would be nice, even if it was just for night.
“Alright? but you better not try anything.” You said getting up to face him. “Like if I wake up with my kidneys missing, you’re not gonna get an advancement in your little study.”
“Oh, are you tired? mein schatz?” He said disregarding your concern, bringing a hand to your chin and stroking your hair. Making an embarrassing amount of blood run to your face.
Before you could say anything else, he sat down in the chair by his desk, beckoning you to come sit in his lap, which he pretty much just pulled you into when you took two more timid steps closer. You squirmed a bit to get comfortable, grabbing your pacifier out of the box you nestled your head in the crook of his neck. You reminded yourself to keep your guard up, causing you to tense up when he put a gentle hand on your back to keep you close.
“No need to be so tense rehkitz.” He said in that damned tone, moving his thumb in rhythmic circles on your lower back. What was with him? Why was he being so gentle with you? Well ok, you knew why, wouldn’t make sense to not be, but Medic was.. kinda scary. The fact that he was being really calm, put you on edge, but was also pretty soothing the more you slipped.
You two have been flirtatious with each other in the past, but this was a different kind of intimacy. This was, new. Oh well, you could think about grownup stuff later. With a yawn against your paci you watched the fluorescent lights dance over Medic’s head as he slightly bounced his knee to rock you.
You wondered if he was any good with actual babies.
Closing your eyes, you felt that previous warning your older conscious gave to you melt away as the sound of him writing on papers and chirping doves progressively got quieter as the sound of his heartbeat replaced all of it. Eh, who cares if he steals a vital organ or two, he was warm, you were happy. Everybody was happy. La Di Da. You eventually fell into a deep dreamless sleep.
Out like a light.
Chapter 2: In The Arms of Sleep
Summary:
A lil continuation because I wanted to write one <3
Chapter Text
So the lamb’s finally been put to rest.
Sighing happily to himself, Medic put down the pen he was writing with and brought his other hand to stroke your hair. He could continue to write down on a notepad every little twitch you made and your breathing patterns. Which he had about four pages of, but no he was too tired.
Gently getting up out of chair, careful to not disturb you, he brought you over to his living quarters which was connected to the medbay. Laid you on his bed and tucked you in. You did look rather sweet asleep.
He put on his pajamas which were literally just a pair of flannel shorts, putting his work clothes in the laundry basket. Should he get in with you? Well where else was he going to sleep? Slipping under the covers, making sure to stick to his side of the bed. But to were he would still be facing you.
As if Medic’s night couldn’t get any better, in your sleep you happen to roll over right next to him. With a small smile on his face, he wrapped his arms around you. Nestling you to were your head is right under his chin.
Leaving a small peck on your forehead, he hoped, despite the odds, that you would still be deep in your headspace when you awakened. He was rather eager to see what your personality was like when you weren’t asleep. And as much as he hated to admit it, he did have some feelings for you, and he hoped this “behavioral study” would be a bonding step in that direction.
Your soft breathing gently lulled him to sleep, with a final yawn he whispered softly to you “Gute nacht engel.” Before he joined you in the arms of sleep.
Notes:
