Chloe, can you tell to Miss Bustier that I wasn't feeling well I preferred going home to rest than to attend the class quite aggravate my situation? The DJ hoped that the Marinette from before will comeback and everything will be like before. He miss the time they were in power and will do, anything to come back to this time and make Marinette change minds on stopping their group. Even if he loved the calm clumsy and kind Marinette, he prefer the true Marinette

- Of course, Marinette, she smiled honestly.

- Thanks Chloe

- Marinette you can't be serious? The teen is surprise by the voice that his best friend (Mari) use to talk to his bestfriend (Adrien). The same one she used on bullies

He doesn't have time to think about it as Madame Bustier enters the classroom.

He watch the two girls talk and Alya give him a dark and full of hatred look. At the recess Alya come see him. He suspects that the Italian has put her plan into action to separate them.

- Lila tell me that she saw you whit another girl, that you were holding her hand and you even kissed.

- Alya, my heart, you know that you are the only one in my heart

- Liar, she even showed me a picture of you two! What's more is that you sided whit that brute Marinette

- Marinette's my best friend, baby, I've known her longer than you and I know she'd never hurt anyone unless she was forced to! If you don't trust me, it would be better if we ended our relationship here and now before we hurt each other. Nino turns away without waiting for an answer from the journalist.

He's sad to have broken up with Alya. He knows that for the moment it's the best thing for both of them. Perhaps when the liar's kingdom is destroyed, he'll find the girl who loved him.

At the lunch break, the DJ receive a message from Marinette in a group that he didn't think will be alive again. She had said she didn't want to come back to the front of the stage, never again. The only good thing Lie-la had archived was to make the true Marinette come back. And for that he was grateful. The thing will change and for the better

Marinette: Tomorow we will be back! Who's whit me?

Chloe: Me of course Mari! But what's make you changed mind? This morning I thought that it was just due to nervousness but now I less sure

Tomorrow Chlo you came take us whit your limo and I will have your tenues. And I'm happy to announce you that the Royals are back and they will stay

Chloe: I will do it my Queen

At the end of the conversation, Nino smiled: Lila was going to pay dearly for trying to play with them, for lying and making false promises. Nobody wins a fight with royalty. Especially if it's Marinette who's after you. She can turn your life to dust

For the rest of the day, he deliberately ignores the journalist and all her messages and requests for explanations. He blocks her.

In the evening, at home, he does his homework with zeal and researches all of Lila's actions, all the schools she's been to, in order to dig up all her secrets. What he finds pleases Marinette. The viper was expelled from Paris and imprisoned for countless years, the slander and harassment leading to numerous suicides.

Chapter 4: IV

Chapter Text

After watching the interactions between the two former best friends, and then between Chloé and Marinette, Alix had a feeling her old group was about to step back into the spotlight. She couldn’t wait for that moment to come.
When Marinette first announced the group’s dissolution, Alix had been hurt and upset by the decision. Being able to rule over others and protect the weaker ones had made her feel like a bit of a heroine—though not nearly as much as when she first received her miraculous. She knew her friends would always support one another, but at the same time, slipping back into a normal life, with classmates no longer afraid of them, might do her some good. Maybe it would even help her see high school life in a new light.

The teenager, rolling on her skates, fiddled with her phone, hoping for the message she longed for—the one that would confirm her hope of the group reforming and finally putting an end to the reign of the liar who had hurt her dearest friends. Once again, for what felt like the hundredth time that day, she unlocked her screen. Nothing.
By noon, her wish was granted. She smiled as she read the first message. Marinette never forced them into her plans to expose those who deserved it. That was one of the reasons Alix admired and respected her leader so much. She knew Marinette would never endanger them, never jeopardize their futures before they had even begun. She always tried to consider everything before striking, finding the best angle of attack. Those qualities were exactly why the girl with the pink hair admired her—and loved her—so deeply.

Marinette: Tomorrow we’re coming back! Who’s with me?
Chloé: Me, obviously, Mari! But what made you change your mind? This morning I thought it was just anger, but now I’m not so sure.
Marinette: Alya and Lila broke into my house and tore up my sketchbook. Thankfully, it wasn’t the one with my commissions, but the one with all the class projects and the minimum fundraising targets we needed to make the event possible. Tomorrow, I’ll share the bad news with the class.
Alix: Even if Lila hasn’t done anything to me directly, I can’t stand the way she treats you. Count me in.
Kim: Me too.
Nino: …
Marinette: Nino, if you don’t want to, I won’t force you. I know Alya means a lot to you, and I’d understand if you didn’t want to hurt her.
Nino: Nettie, you’re my best friend, and our friendship means more to me than my relationship with Alya. Besides, Lila’s turned her against me anyway. You can count on me—I’m in!
Marinette: Thank you, Nino! Here’s the plan: Chlo, ask Sabrina to have Mireille and Aurore post an article about us on the school website at midnight. Tomorrow, Chlo, you’ll pick us up in your limo, and I’ll have our outfits ready. I’m so happy to announce that the Royals are back—and this time, we’re here to stay.
Chloé: I’ll do it, my Queen.

That afternoon, Alix deliberately sat behind Chloé, surprising the class and ignoring Madame Bustier’s request to return to her usual seat. Even though

Chapter Text

Kim, a sporty brunette with blond streaks, was talking with Alix—one of his best friends and a formidable rival when it came to athletics.

The two fell silent after Marinette’s dramatic outburst. When Marinette laid down her ultimatum, Kim didn’t hesitate for even a second; he kept his hand lowered. The athletic duo exchanged a glance, then shot a look at Chloé as the aspiring fashion designer left the room. With the smile the blonde wore, Kim knew instantly: things were about to change, and Lila was going to pay.

If Marinette decided to bring their group back, he would be there. After all, he was the group’s protector. His duty was to make sure none of them got hurt by anyone. He had failed in that duty—failed both as a protector and as a friend. He only hoped Marinette wouldn’t hold it against him. His other responsibility was to make sure their actions stayed within the boundaries of the law, to avoid any run-ins with justice. And with everything they had done before, some of their stunts had definitely skirted the edge of legality.

As the late morning rolled on without a single message, Kim started to lose hope. But at lunchtime, his phone buzzed. The moment he saw the sender and the group name, his grin stretched from ear to ear.

Marinette: Tomorrow we’re coming back! Who’s with me?
Chloé: Me, obviously, Mari! But what made you change your mind? This morning I thought it was just anger, but now I’m not so sure.
Marinette: Alya and Lila broke into my place and tore up my sketchbook. Luckily, it wasn’t the one with my commissions, but the one with all the class projects and the minimum funds we need to raise to make the event possible. Tomorrow I’ll announce this sad news to the class.
Alix: Even if Lila never hurt me directly, I can’t stand how she treats you. I’m in.
Kim: Me too.
Nino: …
Marinette: Nino, if you don’t want to, I won’t force you. I know Alya means a lot to you, and I’d understand if you don’t want to hurt her.
Nino: Nettie, you’re my best friend, and our friendship means more to me than my relationship with Alya. Besides, Lila already turned her against me. You can count on me!
Marinette: Thank you, Nino! Here’s the plan. Chlo, ask Sabrina to get Mireille and Aurore to post an article about us on the school website at midnight. Tomorrow, Chlo, you’ll pick us up in your limo, and I’ll have your outfits ready. I’m happy to announce that the Royals are back—and this time, we’re here to stay.
Chloé: I’ll do it, my Queen.

Kim smiled again. Marinette was still the same as ever—she always gave them a choice. And no matter the choice, he would always follow his leader. She thought of everything, always finding a way to keep them out of trouble.

After the final message, he tucked his phone away. From now on, things were about to get far more exciting than any competition. Since their breakup, this was the one thing he had longed for even more than victory.

By the end of the day, when Kim saw Alix standing beside Chloé, he knew change was already in motion. Looking around at his classmates, he could see the fear beginning to creep into the eyes of the older ones. The only exception was Nathaniel—timid as he was, he remained their best informant.

That night, Kim went home happier than he had been in months. He went to bed eager for tomorrow, when they would reclaim their place at the top of the hierarchy.

The next day, sitting in Chloé’s limousine, Kim glanced at each of the others dressed in their old uniforms. Seeing them in those outfits again brought back countless memories. One thing was certain: before the end of the month, the liar’s kingdom would collapse, and their class would finally learn what it meant to witness true power.

He, Nino, and Alix wore the same design, only in different colors. The outfit was composed of a short-sleeved white blouse, a blazer with elbow-length sleeves trimmed in black checkered fabric at the cuffs and collar, fastened with six buttons. Their skirt matched the color of the blazer, with a black hem, ending mid-thigh. To complete the look, each wore sneakers. Kim’s color was red, Nino’s was a bluish gray, and Alix’s was green—with pink sneakers to match.

As the group stepped out of the limo, their vengeance was about to begin—and there would be no mercy for the traitors to their kingdom. Unless, of course, their leader decided otherwise. For five people, Kim already knew their fate was sealed, and nothing could change that. Even if they confessed their sins, their queen would show no mercy to bullies or to the adults who had failed to control them.

Chapter 6: VI

Chapter Text

Nathaniel watched his class tear itself apart once again.
He sighed. The moment Chloé’s face lit up with that smile after Marinette stormed out, the young artist knew—the group that had once saved him was coming back, and their return was going to be explosive.

Nathaniel had been the very first person the Royals had saved. To repay them—even if they hadn’t agreed with the idea at first—he had fed them rumors and information that always proved useful for carrying out their plans.

He remembered it vividly. He had just transferred to Françoise Dupont in second grade. Shy, new, and alone, he was an easy target for bullies. After only a week, Marinette suddenly launched into a stream of words, half in Italian and half in Mandarin. Nathaniel hadn’t understood a single one, but from the looks on the bullies’ faces, he could guess they weren’t exactly compliments.
Then Chloé had stepped in, warning them that if she called her father—the new mayor—she could have them expelled and ensure they’d never get into a decent school again. When the bullies saw the group closing ranks around Marinette and Chloé, Alix, Nino, and Kim also moved closer, siding with the two girls.
Finally, Chloé had gone as far as to call her father using one of the teachers’ phones. After that day, those bullies never touched him—or anyone else—again. That was the day Nathaniel witnessed the birth of the Royals.
He had also lived to see their fall.

At the end of lunch break, Nathaniel received a message from Marinette.

Marinette: The Royals are back in full force. Do you still hold your post?
Nathaniel: Of course! I’ve been waiting for this! My network is still intact. Do you need some files?
Marinette: Thank you, Nath! I need files created for Alya, Lila, Adrien, the principal, and Miss Bustier—with all the necessary information. And updates for the rest of the class. I think Nino’s already started digging into Lie-la.
Nathaniel: You’ll have them tomorrow.
Marinette: Give them to Sabrina. She’ll hand them to me afterward.
Nathaniel: Consider it done, my Queen.
Marinette: Thank you again, Nath!
Nathaniel: Anything for you, my Queen!
Marinette: See you tomorrow!
Nathaniel: Until tomorrow, my Queen!

The redheaded boy locked his phone and headed back to class. His eyes swept across the room and he immediately spotted the Royals who were already gathered at the back.
Sitting at his desk, Nathaniel pulled out his sketchbook and began working on a new cover design as he waited for the teacher.

When classes ended, the teen paid a visit to Marinette. She explained the broad strokes of their return. Nathaniel understood the rage that had consumed her. As an artist himself, he couldn’t imagine watching months of work shredded in seconds. He was astonished she hadn’t been akumatized on the spot. Even if the ruined notebook had only contained class projects, he completely understood why she had decided to reclaim her rightful place.

That night, Nathaniel neatly packed the files into his bag, ready to deliver them to Sabrina the next day. He couldn’t wait to watch the liar fall. How could his classmates be so foolish? One of Lila’s more recent lies had even involved Stan Lee. She had bragged for weeks about meeting him over summer vacation, claiming he was her great-uncle. The problem? He had already been dead when her “meeting” supposedly happened. One simple Google search would have been enough to blow her story apart.

At least soon, Nathaniel thought, he would be free of that fox’s tricks. Lila was going to pay dearly for what she had done. No one else had ever dared attack Marinette directly, too afraid of the retaliation.

Chapter 7: VII

Chapter Text

Lila woke up like any other day. She got ready and headed to school.
Today, she planned to put a final end to Marinette and Alya’s friendship—and most likely, in the process, to the rest of the class’s bonds as well. Despite all her attempts, the little fashion designer still held some sway over her classmates. The fact that they never bothered to fact-check her claims suited Lila just fine. Even Max, the smartest in their class, had believed that a flimsy napkin could injure her eye, even though he wore glasses. At that moment, she had wanted to laugh. They were far too gullible, far too easy to manipulate.

Arriving at school, she scanned the courtyard for Alya. Once she spotted her on the steps, Lila walked confidently toward her. Halfway there, she slowed down, prepared her crocodile tears, and rehearsed the excuse she would give to shatter Alya’s friendship with Marinette.

—“What’s wrong, Lila?” Alya asked.
—“I offered Marinette the chance to meet MDC since I know she loves creating clothes, and she told me I didn’t know him at all. But he’s my best friend! I help him design clothes and even model them. He’s in love with me… I think I might have a crush on him too. I’m also dating Adrien.” She burst into carefully crafted sobs.
—“She has no right to treat you like that! The next time I see her, I’ll tell her exactly what I think.”
—“You don’t have to… I know she’s your friend, and I don’t want to come between you two.”
—“No, she’s crossed the line. She doesn’t deserve my friendship anymore.”

The Italian girl smiled to herself. Her plan was working. Soon Marinette would be isolated, and under all that pressure, she would break. Either she’d cave in and submit, or she’d change schools… or maybe—well, Lila wasn’t considering that last option just yet, though it wouldn’t have been the first time she had pushed a student that far. None of them had lasted as long as Marinette.
In the end, Lila would rule the class, then the school, and one day, the world.

The two girls walked into class together. Alya, spotting Marinette talking with Chloé, immediately stormed over.

—“Girl, how could you do this to poor Lila? She was only trying to help you! You’ve changed too much. I don’t think I can be friends with a bully like you anymore!”
—“Very well. Are you sure you want to end our friendship, Alya?”
—“Yes!”
—“Fine,” Marinette exhaled. “Who else agrees with Alya? Don’t be shy—raise your hand.”

The entire class, except for Nino, Alix, Chloé, Kim, Nathaniel, and Sabrina, raised their hands.

—“From now on, those of you who raised your hands are my enemies. Don’t expect anything free from me again.”

Everyone shivered—except the few who stood with her. Marinette scribbled a note on a scrap of paper, packed up her things, stood, and handed the note to Chloé, who read it quickly.

—“Chloé, would you mind telling Madame Bustier that I went home because I wasn’t feeling well? I’d rather rest at home than stay here and make things worse.”
—“Of course, Marinette,” Chloé replied with an honest smile.
—“Thank you, Chloé!”
—“Marinette, you can’t be serious!”
—“What do you want, Agreste?”
—“I just want things to go back to how they used to be!”
—“Sorry, but that’s impossible. I’ll give you until tomorrow to choose a side. After that, it’ll be too late. Those who stand against me will pay dearly.”

With that final warning, she walked out confidently, leaving behind three students confused, five trembling with fear, four undecided, and two wearing sly, knowing smiles.

The grin Lila had worn earlier slipped. The entire class should have been against Marinette. Why did she still have loyalists at her side? Rage burned inside her. She swore that by the end of the year, Marinette’s kingdom would be nothing but ashes. And from those ashes, her own rule would rise higher than ever.

She had vaguely heard whispers about the Royals at her old school, about how they were retired. Now, more than anything, she wanted them to return, so she could prove once and for all who truly held the power.

Chapter 8: VIII

Chapter Text

Alya arrived at school earlier than usual and sat down on the steps, careful not to block anyone’s way. She was lost in thought, wondering if her friendship with Marinette was worth continuing. A few minutes later, she spotted Lila approaching, tears streaming down her face. Concerned, Alya waited until the Italian girl reached her.

—“What’s wrong, Lila?”
—“I offered Marinette the chance to meet MDC, since I know she loves designing clothes, and she told me I didn’t even know him. But he’s my best friend! I help him create his designs, I even model for him. He has feelings for me… and I think I might have a crush on him too. I’m also dating Adrien.”

Lila’s crocodile tears rolled down her cheeks.

—“She has no right to treat you like that! The next time I see her, I’ll tell her exactly what I think.”
—“You don’t have to… I know she’s your friend, and I don’t want to come between you two.”
—“No, she’s gone too far. She doesn’t deserve my friendship anymore.”

The thought of cutting ties with Marinette—her very first friend—hurt Alya deeply. But to her eyes, Marinette had changed too much, and she didn’t want to be associated with a bully. Seeing Marinette talking with Chloé only solidified her decision. Alya walked up to them.

—“Girl, how could you do this to poor Lila? She was only trying to help you! You’ve changed too much. I don’t think I can be friends with a bully like you anymore!”
—“Very well. Are you sure you want to end our friendship, Alya?”
—“Yes!”
—“Fine,” Marinette sighed. “Who else agrees with Alya? Don’t be shy—raise your hands.”

The entire class, except for Nino, Alix, Chloé, Kim, Nathaniel, and Sabrina, raised their hands.

—“From this moment on, those who raised their hands are my enemies. Don’t expect anything free from me again.”

Alya hadn’t expected such a reaction. Marinette’s threat made her shiver a little, though she knew, deep down, that the designer wouldn’t actually harm them. Marinette scribbled something on a small scrap of paper, packed her things, stood, and handed the note to Chloé, who quickly read it.

—“Chloé, would you tell Madame Bustier that I went home because I wasn’t feeling well? I’d rather rest at home than risk making things worse by staying here.”
—“Of course, Marinette,” Chloé replied with a genuine smile.
—“Thank you, Chloé.”
—“Marinette, you can’t be serious!”
—“What do you want, Agreste?”
—“I just want things to go back to how they used to be!”
—“Sorry, but that won’t be possible. I’ll give you until tomorrow to choose a side. After that, it’ll be too late. Those who stand against me will pay dearly.”

With that last warning, she left the classroom with confident steps, leaving behind three confused students, five terrified ones, four undecided, and two smirking slyly.

By the end of the day, Alya couldn’t get Marinette’s departure out of her head. Whispers had spread through the school: the Royals might be making a comeback in the next few days, and their class would be the first to face them.

Curious, Alya decided to do some digging. She didn’t find much—only that the Royals were a group that fought against bullies and the teachers who enabled them. They wielded considerable influence in Paris.

She smiled. If they truly returned, it would surely be for Marinette. And once Marinette and Chloé left the class, peace might finally return. Lila would be happy, and no one would ever make her cry again.

Chapter 9: IX

Chapter Text

When Adrien walked into the classroom, he heard Alya’s angry voice. He turned toward her, trying to understand what was going on.

—“From now on, those of you who raised your hands are my enemies. Don’t expect anything free from me again.”

She scribbled something on a slip of paper, packed her things, stood, and handed the note to Chloé, who quickly read it.

—“Chloé, could you tell Madame Bustier that I went home because I wasn’t feeling well? I’d rather rest at home than risk making things worse by staying.”
—“Of course, Marinette,” Chloé replied with an honest smile.
—“Thank you, Chloé!”
—“Marinette, you can’t be serious!”
—“What do you want, Agreste?”
—“I just want things to go back to how they used to be!”
—“Sorry, but that won’t be possible. I’ll give you until tomorrow to choose a side. After that, it’ll be too late. Those who stand against me will pay dearly.”

With that last warning, she left the classroom confidently, leaving behind three confused students, five trembling with fear, four uncertain, and two wearing sly smiles.

Adrien was stunned by his friend’s attitude—and by the strength of the bond between his childhood friend and his new one. All day, he couldn’t stop thinking about Marinette’s behavior, their everyday Ladybug. He tried speaking to Chloé, but she wanted nothing to do with him. The same girl who used to cling to him constantly now refused to even talk. It was strange—too strange. Something was happening, and he was determined to uncover it. His first stop, once home, would be Marinette’s balcony. Not as Adrien Agreste, but as Chat Noir.

That night, he transformed and landed silently on her balcony. Marinette was already there. He approached quietly.

—“Good evening, Marinette! I heard you weren’t feeling well.”
—“Good evening, Chat Noir. You must be mistaken, I feel perfectly fine. In fact, I can’t wait for tomorrow!”
—“Why is that?”
—“Because tomorrow I’ll reclaim the place that belongs to me—and bring Lila down once and for all!”
—“Lila isn’t evil. She just lies to make friends.”
—“Wake up, Chat. She’s lied more times than you can count. She’s deliberately put Ladybug in danger, threatened me repeatedly, and tricked my classmates with false promises. Alya, as a journalist, lost all credibility—she’s even blacklisted. It’s a miracle she isn’t facing lawsuits. Nino and Luka’s band missed golden opportunities. Ivan and Mylène gave money to fake charities—they could even be accused of embezzlement. And the worst of it all? She tore up my sketchbook. Luckily, it wasn’t my commission work, but the one with the class projects.”
—“And how do you plan to fight her?”
—“The Royals.”
—“The Royals?” he echoed.
—“You’ll see tomorrow, Chat. And trust me—it’s better to be on their side than their enemy. Together, they rule Paris. They can make your life a living hell. It’s late, Chat. I’m going to bed.”

Adrien returned home with more questions than answers, haunted by the ultimatum Marinette had given him. He made his choice: he would stand with Lila.

Unable to sleep, Adrien scrolled through the school’s website. At midnight, a new article appeared. Its title read: They’re Back. He clicked on it.

The bullies and their enablers have disturbed the kingdom.
A fox believes she holds the power.
She is wrong.
The Royals have returned.
They will drive the fox out of their kingdom and restore peace within.

Chapter Text

Once at school, the first to step out of the limousine were Nino and Kim, followed by Alix and Chloé, and finally Marinette.

Every student in the courtyard turned to look at them.

The older students stared with a mix of awe and fear. The newer ones, with confusion.

The five walked until they reached the center of the courtyard.

—“Good morning, everyone. For those of you who’ve been here longer, you know who we are. For the newer students, you’ve probably heard whispers about us. And if you checked the school website this morning, then you already know—we’re back. And this time, we’re here to stay. We are the Royals. I am the Queen.”

—“I am the Lady,” said Chloé, stepping forward.

—“I’m one of the two Aces,” added Alix.

—“I’m the Jack,” Nino declared.

—“And I’m the second Ace,” Kim finished.

—“The reason we’ve returned,” Marinette continued, “is because a fox has slithered into our school. Her lies are dangerous. She has turned classmates against an innocent girl, branding her as the bully. She makes false promises and spreads slander. We are giving her—and the class that followed her lead—until the end of the week to come clean. After that… hell will rain down upon you. Thank you for your attention.”

At her final words, the students quietly made their way to class. The silence lingered until they reached their classrooms, where whispers broke out about the Royals’ return—and how those responsible for forcing their comeback were going to pay dearly.

As the five passed Alya, she snapped:

—“What was that, girl?”

—“Did you check the school website this morning?” Marinette asked calmly.

—“Of course! Who even are these Royals?”

—“Then let me keep it simple: the Royals are a group of five students. Their mission is to take down bullies, liars, and the corrupt. Be on their good side, and you’re safe. Cross them, and you lose your social life, your comfort, and your dreams. If you want to talk to me, Alya, you’ll now need to book an appointment with Sabrina. I have too much to do and very little free time. That goes for the entire class. And one last reminder, Alya: we’re no longer friends. Don’t call me ‘girl’ anymore—my name is Marinette.”

She headed toward her usual seat at the back, with Chloé and Alix at her side.

Adrien’s eyes met hers. He looked disappointed. Once, that would have hurt her. Now, it meant nothing.

—“Marinette, may I speak with you after class?” asked Madame Bustier.

—“Of course, Miss Bustier,” Marinette answered with a polite smile.

—“Perfect. Before we begin, I’d like to rearrange the seating chart since some students have already moved. Chloé, Marinette, and Alix stay where you are. Kim and Nino, in front of them. Nathaniel and Sabrina in front of the boys. In the back row: Max and Ivan, then Rose and Juleka, Alya and Mylène, and finally Lila and Adrien.”

—“Madame,” Marinette interrupted, “I have very bad news for the class.”

—“Go ahead, Marinette.”

—“Yesterday, when I got home, I discovered one of my sketchbooks had been ripped to pieces—beyond repair. The intruders thought it was my commissions book. Unfortunately, it wasn’t—it was the one dedicated to our end-of-year trip. Inside were the fundraising totals, the minimum amount we needed for the trip to be worthwhile, all the contacts for venues, the hotel booking, everything. It also contained personal commissions—like the banner for Kim and Alix’s event, and the new designs for Kitty Section. I spent months on it. It would be unfair to ask me to redo it, so I’ll leave the responsibility to the guilty parties. A little note was left behind, and I have proof of who it was.”

Marinette locked eyes with Lila, who stayed silent. Finally, Marinette showed the photos she had taken the night before, including the incriminating note.

—“The culprits are Alya and Lila. You two will redo everything.”

—“That’s not fair!” Alya shouted.

—“Unfair? And was it fair to destroy someone else’s work?”

—“No, but Lila said you stole her ideas!”

—“Then if they’re her ideas, it’ll be easy for you both to redo them!”

—“She thought it was the commissions book!”

—“If you think I’d leave my commissions lying around, you don’t know me at all. In any case, with Lila’s so-called knowledge and connections, I’m sure you’ll organize a trip even better than the one I planned.”

—“As class rep, this was your job!”

—“And as my deputy, it’s your job to assist me. I never asked you for anything, Alya. Now it’s your turn to put in the work.”

Madame Bustier stared at Marinette strangely for a moment before starting her lesson. At the ten o’clock break, Marinette turned to her group.

—“She wants me to go back to the sweet, harmless Marinette who does everyone’s favors for free.”

—“She can dream on,” Chloé scoffed. “You’re you, and you were never that clumsy little pushover!”

—“That’s exactly what I told her,” Marinette replied. “The Marinette they all knew and loved was a façade. That wasn’t the real me.”

The rest of the morning flew by, and soon it was lunchtime.

In the cafeteria, at the very center, the table that overlooked all the others had been set with a tablecloth. Alya nudged Lila and pointed. Together, they started toward it.

Mireille and Aurore blocked their way.

—“Sorry, but you’re not invited. You’ll need to find another table. The Royals will be here any minute, and we strongly advise you to leave.”

—“Who are you to tell us where we can sit?” Alya snapped.

—“They’re my friends,” Marinette said coldly, stepping forward. “They handle all of the Royals’ administrative work. They, along with Nathaniel and Marc, are under our protection. If you go after them, you go after us. You’re already skating on thin ice—I suggest you don’t test us, or your downfall will come sooner than expected.”

The two girls fled under the laughter of the group.

—“Thanks for saving our seats!” Marinette said warmly. “Come join us!”

They were soon joined by Nathaniel and Marc. The friends chatted about everything and nothing until it was time for class again.

Even though it had only been half a day since their return, everyone acted as if the Royals had never left.

Chapter Text

At the end of classes, Sabrina handed Marinette a black binder labeled The Akuma Class. The two girls walked side by side toward the Grand Paris.

—“My Queen, here is what you requested. Nino also helped gather the information on Lila, my Queen.”
—“Thank you, Sabrina! I’ll thank him personally later.”
—“Of course, my Queen! What is your plan, my Queen?”
—“As you know, the school will be holding the Spring Ball at the end of the month, yes?”
—“Yes!”
—“I had already planned to invite some of my contacts to expose Lie-la. I want you to handle all the organization and phone calls. Tell them it’s for MDC.”
—“Yes, my Queen. I’ll do it.”
—“Thank you, Sabrina. Tomorrow I’ll give you the full list, and I expect a detailed report. If anyone has doubts, tell them to call me directly—I’ll explain everything.”
—“Of course, my Queen.”

The two students parted ways. Marinette entered the hotel, while Sabrina returned to her father’s patrol car.

The young designer climbed the stairs to Chloé’s suite, where the rest of the Royals were waiting.

—“So, how did your meeting with Adrien go?”
—“He defended poor little Lila. He’ll fall along with the rest of our primary targets. No more mercy for him. On top of that, he wants me to give up my revenge, make nice with her, and stop exposing her lies because he claims they’re harmless. I made it very clear to him—I will not stop. Now, let’s talk strategy. Sabrina is handling the calls to all the people Lila has lied to. Meanwhile, we’ll focus on Damocles and Bustier. I know our dear principal has been embezzling funds to support his ridiculous Owl activities—and I suspect there are other skeletons in his closet. As for Bustier, we’ll prove that she enables bullies and delegates her work to a student instead of doing her job.

“For Lila, we’ll use the information in her file—thank you, Nino, for the help. As for Alya, her incompetence is already on display on her blog. A real journalist checks her facts, which she never did. And Adrien… I know just the person who can help us with him.”

The group worked late into the night, refining their plan.

Finally, Marinette stood.

—“Before we part ways, I have a revelation—and a request. I am Ladybug. Because of the former guardian’s incompetence, I am now the new Guardian. And as Guardian, I ask you this: Chloé Bourgeois, will you accept the Miraculous of the Bee, with the power of Subjugation? Your identity must remain secret, and you must use your power for good. Do you accept the mission?”
—“Yes, Ladybug!”
—“Alix Kubdel, will you accept the Miraculous of the Rabbit, with the power of Evolution? Your identity must remain secret, and you must use your power for good. Do you accept the mission?”
—“Yes, Ladybug!”
—“Nino Lahiffe, will you accept the Miraculous of the Turtle, with the power of Protection? Your identity must remain secret, and you must use your power for good. Do you accept the mission?”
—“Yes, Ladybug!”
—“Lê Chiến Kim, will you accept the Miraculous of the Monkey, with the power of Derision? Your identity must remain secret, and you must use your power for good. Do you accept the mission?”
—“Yes, Ladybug!”

—“Good. From now on, you are the official holders of your Miraculous, and you will fight alongside me against Hawk Moth and Mayura.”

On her way home, Marinette dialed a number.

—“Hello, Graham de Vanily.”
—“What do you want, Dupain-Cheng?”
—“Just two little favors.”
—“You know I never do anything out of kindness.”
—“Not even if it concerns your dear cousin Adrien?”
—“…What has Agreste done?”
—“The Royals are back. And your cousin chose the side of our target.”
—“And what do you want from me?”
—“Just a little help to destroy him. The second favor, I’ll ask in person—if you agree to assist me.”
—“Of course I’ll help if it means destroying my cousin!”
—“Thank you, Graham de Vanily.”
—“My pleasure, Dupain-Cheng.”
—“Can you come to the bakery this weekend?”
—“I’ll have to ask my mother. But if it’s Royals business, I’m sure she’ll allow it.”
—“Keep me updated, Graham de Vanily.”
—“No problem, Dupain-Cheng.”

The call ended.

Chapter 12: XII

Chapter Text

Once home, Sabrina finished her homework and began preparing what she would say to Marinette’s contacts.
After tossing yet another crumpled paper beside the trash bin, and hours slipping by, the redhead with glasses finally felt satisfied with her presentation speech. She checked the time on her phone—almost midnight. Deciding it was late enough, she stretched her stiff muscles, took a shower, and slipped into the realm of Morpheus.

The next morning, she woke to find several messages from Marinette. Skimming them quickly, she realized they were the list of contacts the former class president had mentioned. She copied the names onto a blank sheet of paper, leaving space for notes about who Marinette would need to call back.

After breakfast and getting ready, she headed off for her half-day of classes.
Upon arriving, she greeted the Royals before sitting down in her seat.

By two in the afternoon, she began making the calls. Only two refused to believe her—Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne.
She immediately informed Marinette, who thanked her for the effort.

---

Later that evening, Marinette picked up her phone.

—“Hello, Bruce, it’s Marinette. Earlier today, a friend of mine called you about a girl in our class who’s been speaking your name in vain. As you know, I once led the Royals… and I’ve decided to bring them back. To silence her lies once and for all, I need you to come to Paris on the night of the prom, to restore the truth. And believe me, the revelation of her lies will be only the beginning of what awaits her. So, Bruce… will you be part of the project? … Great! I’ll keep you updated on when and where.”

---

Later that evening, Marinette made another call.

—“Hello, Tony Stark? This is Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Earlier today, one of my friends called you about a girl from my class who’s been throwing your name around with lies. I’m sure you can imagine the kind of trouble she’s stirring. I lead the Royals, and I’ve decided to bring them back. To put an end to her deception once and for all, I’d like you to come to Paris on prom night and expose the truth yourself.”

There was a pause on the line before Tony’s voice came through, sharp and amused.

—“Let me guess. Red hair, fake tears, a talent for making the gullible swoon? Yeah, I’ve heard of her type. And she thinks I’m her best friend? Please. If I had a euro for every kid who claimed that, I could buy Paris twice.”

Marinette smiled faintly.

—“So will you help us?”
—“Oh, I wouldn’t miss it. Prom night in Paris? Sounds like a headline waiting to happen. Just send me the details. And when I show up, you can be sure she’ll wish she’d picked literally anyone else to name-drop.”

—“Thank you, Mr. Stark.”
—“Don’t thank me yet, kid. I don’t do subtle. If you want the truth revealed, I’ll make sure the entire room hears it loud and clear.”

Marinette hung up, a satisfied smile crossing her face. Another piece had fallen neatly into place.

Chapter 13: XIII

Chapter Text

On Friday evening, at the end of classes, Marinette received a message from Félix.

Graham de Vanily: Dupain-Cheng, my mother agreed. I’ll be in Paris tomorrow morning.
Mari: Fantastic, Graham de Vanily. I can’t wait to see you again—and bring down your cousin.
Graham de Vanily: Nor can I, Dupain-Cheng.

The heroine smiled. Lila’s downfall was drawing near. And since no one in her class had apologized, they would all pay the price. She could hardly wait for everything to begin—especially now that Félix was part of the plan.

The next morning at the bakery, Marinette immediately spotted Félix’s familiar blond head. She approached him quickly and pulled him upstairs to her room, despite his annoyed protests.

—“Thank you for coming, Graham de Vanily.”
—“Think nothing of it, Dupain-Cheng. I never refuse an opportunity to help destroy my oh-so-beloved cousin. Now, what was the second thing you wanted to ask me?”
—“As you know, Hawk Moth and Mayura terrorize Paris. The two heroes who fight them are Ladybug and Chat Noir. As the new Guardian, I stripped Chat Noir of his duties. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that behind the mask was none other than our dear friend Adrien. My second request is this: Félix Graham de Vanily, will you accept to become the new holder of the Black Cat Miraculous, with the power of destruction? If you accept, you must use this power for good.”
—“I accept with pleasure.”
—“Good. I am also Ladybug. Tonight you’ll meet the new team—unless there’s an attack, in which case it will be sooner. As for the Royals’ plan, it will consist of…”

---

That evening, Marinette and Félix, dressed in their superhero suits, made their way to the Eiffel Tower, where the rest of the team was waiting.

—“Everyone, meet the new Chat Noir. His name is Kuro Neko. I trust you’ll welcome him properly. Though… I find it strange Hawk Moth hasn’t attacked yet.”

At that exact moment, a loud BOOM echoed across Paris. Marinette grimaced.

—“I think I spoke too soon. Ready for your first mission?”

Within ten minutes, the team had defeated the akuma. As the fight ended, Alya rushed toward them.

—“Why is there a new Chat Noir? And why bring in new heroes?”
—“As for Chat Noir,” Ladybug answered coldly, “he only agreed to keep fighting if I went on a date with him. During battles, he did nothing but hold back. And as for the new heroes—they are people I trust completely, both with and without their masks. Rena Rouge is no longer part of the team. I do not trust her anymore.”
—“But Chat and you are meant for each other!” Alya insisted.
—“No, Alya. The holders of the Cat and the Ladybug Miraculous are meant to complement each other—not to be romantically involved. Sometimes, yes, the two have dated, but it is not an obligation. I’m sorry, but we don’t have time for more questions. We’ll de-transform now.”

---

Once they were far from prying eyes, the group gathered again in their civilian identities.

—“Congratulations to all of you for this first mission. Starting next week, we’ll be training together for better teamwork.”

Chapter 14: XIV

Chapter Text

Félix had officially joined Marinette’s class, which caused a small reshuffling of seats. He sat beside Marinette in the very back row, forcing everyone else to move up one place. The new seating chart put Marinette and Félix in the last row, Chloé and Alix in front of them, then Nino and Kim, and finally Nathaniel and Sabrina.

Aside from that change, life for the Royals continued as usual—until the night of the ball.

Marinette gathered everyone for one final meeting to review the plan.

—“Mireille, before announcing the King and Queen, you’ll call up all the celebrities who’ve come to expose Lila’s lies. With the help of the projector, you’ll also display every single time Lie-la willingly accepted an akuma. Sabrina, make sure your father is in the hall to arrest Lila. I’ll arrange for Ladybug and her team to be present, to prevent any akumatization.

If everything is clear to everyone… then let the ball begin!”

Chapter Text

The ball unfolded without a hitch. Mireille stepped onto the stage and signaled the DJ to lower the volume.

—“Before I announce the King and Queen of the ball, I’d like to invite some special guests onto the stage. A round of applause for Jagged Stone, Clara Nightingale, Prince Ali, Bruce Wayne, and Tony Stark!”

Thunderous applause erupted as all the celebrities joined her on stage.

—“You’ve come for Lila?” Mireille asked.
—“Yes,” Tony Stark replied, “and to bring her to justice.”
—“Why? She helped you!” Lila protested.

One by one, the stars dismantled her lies.

—“No,” Jagged Stone said, “I never had a cat. I’m allergic.”
—“I choreograph my own dances,” Clara added firmly.
—“I support children’s hospitals, not environmental charities,” Prince Ali corrected.
—“Damian came to live with me when he was ten,” Bruce Wayne declared coldly. “And I have never once invited you to one of my galas.”

As each celebrity exposed her fabrications, Lila’s smile faltered. Alya’s expression grew strained, and the Italian girl’s eyes darted about desperately, searching for an escape.

Then Marinette stepped onto the stage, joining the celebrities.

—“I am MDC. Those initials stand for Marinette Dupain-Cheng. And I can state clearly—you never introduced me to Jagged Stone, you were never my model, never my muse, and we most certainly never dated. To end this charade, we are suing you for defamation and spreading false rumors. I’ll also add harassment and theft.

“As for the rest of my class—you will face the same charges. And Alya, you have been blacklisted from every journalism school and every media company tied to the profession.”

—“Why? I thought we were friends, Marinette!” Alya cried.
—“I remind you—you ended our friendship. And I warned you she was lying, but you chose not to believe me. You were the one who always told me to check my sources, weren’t you?”
—“Yes…”
—“And did you check them?”
—“…No, but it was Lila! Her stories seemed believable!”
—“Then you didn’t do your job. Don’t blame me.”

At that moment, Officer Roger entered the gymnasium and took Lila into custody.

—“Now that this is settled,” Mireille announced, “it’s time to reveal the winners. The King of the ball is Félix Graham de Vanily, and the Queen is Marinette Dupain-Cheng! Congratulations!”

Applause filled the hall as the crowned pair stepped onto the dance floor, sharing the first slow dance of the evening.

---

One week after the ball, Principal Damocles and Miss Bustier were dismissed from their positions.
With the combined efforts of the heroes, the Justice League, and the Avengers, Hawk Moth was finally unmasked and arrested.

Paris was calm again—at last freed from the shadow of oppression.
