You’re stressing so much

Summary:

Ever since Betty had told Jughead that she was pregnant, he has been taking one thing to the other from her in order to relax her. Work was still taking a toll on her, so he decided to give her an afternoon for herself.

Work Text:

Working at the FBI came with a few difficulties. Some cases weren't only gruesome but also a lot of time consuming. With Betty having two serial killer cases at the same time, it took a lot of her time. Jughead tried his best to support her but it wasn't like he was off any better at the moment. While his girlfriend had leads on both cases, he was tapping in the darkness, all leads going the wrong way. Given, the first case had been cold the past three years and they only recently got a new tip. They shared the second one as partners. It only recently fell into their hands though. Jughead offered to take it with someone else but Betty refused, saying that they needed to work together to put an end to this. They were one of the best teams after all. Living in Riverdale and solving mysteries at least taught them some things which were useful now — aside from the trauma.

Recently, or more for the past four months, Jughead has been doing more than usually though. He had been taking things from her whenever he could, whether that was by carrying her bag or by offering to take short walks to the kitchen, so that she didn't have to get up. He did that ever since Betty told him that she was pregnant.

Now that the week was finally over, it being Friday, Jughead thought about surprising her. He planned to pick her up in her office, then they would hold at some drive in to get dinner and drive to the lake close to their apartment complex to have some relaxation during sunset.

That was the plan.

The first step already went wrong. Jughead planned on picking her up. In the end, he was still stuck with some video tapes, eyes glued to the monitor and searching through the pictures. Trying to find anything — every little clue could help figure out the bigger picture.

When two arms wrapped around him, he jumped, turning to face the person. Though upon seeing Betty, he relaxed, leaning into her touch.

"It's just me, babe"

"What are you doing here? I though that I would pick you up once you finish work?" Jughead asked.

"Yes, that's what you said but it's been over half an hour since I finished. Did you forget to watch out for the time yet again?" She asked, chuckling before kissing him on the cheek. Jughead looked at the time and then gasped.

"Shit, right. Sorry. I was- I just wanted to take a quick look at those video tapes. Let me just- I'll just log out, okay? I'll be right with you"

"No hurry, Jug, don't worry" She kissed his cheek again while Jughead quickly closed the tap before logging out of his account. He took the tapes and put them in their cases before storing them in his locker. He locked it with his keys before straightening up.

"Okay, I'm done. We can go" Jughead said, wrapping an arm around her in order to pull her in a kiss "Sorry that I kept you waiting. This is supposed to be your day"

"Oh I don't mind to wait, not for you"

"Still, I won't keep you waiting any more" Jughead pulled away from her, though only to grab her hand before starting to walk. They locked out of their accounts before leaving the building to get to the car.

"You still haven't told me what exactly you've planned" Betty said as the two sat in the car. Jughead was driving, one hand resting on Betty's thigh.

"Because it's a surprise" Jughead said, chuckling. He gave Betty's thigh a squeeze before focusing back on the road. Outside of town, Jughead parked the car in a small parking lot, barely fitting three cars.

"It's not that far to walk, I promise" Jughead said. He took out his phone to text someone before getting out.

"What have you planned, you dork?"

"I already told you, it's a surprise. You will find out soon enough. Have a little patience" Jughead said, kissing her in the cheek. He went to the trunk to get out two jackets.

"We just have to go up that hill and walk around the shore for a bit more" Jughead explained before intertwining their hands. Betty smiled softly, squeezing back as they started walking. Jughead helped her over the slippy rocks, making sure that Betty wouldn't fall before they reached his destination. Off the shore of the little lake, a blanket was laid out. Fairy lights were sprawled out and Jughead put the basket on top.

"There we go. A little surprise to relax you" Jughead explained before he walked over to her and rested his hands on her stomach "It's good for you and our little miracle. We will have our dinner here and then we just do what you want. We could stay here a bit more, watch the sunset or even go swimming — or we could also go home. Whatever you want"

"Jug, that's so sweet of you. Thank you" Betty rested her hands on top of Jughead's before kissing him softly "Thank you so much, Juggy"

"You don't need to thank me. You're doing such an amazing job. I just want to repay you in some way. Now, let's go and eat" Jughead pulled away, though held onto her hand as he walked over to the blanket. The two sat down on the blanket and Jughead opened the basket to lay out the food.

After the two had eaten, Jughead put the trash and leftovers back in the basket before they laid down on the blanket, Betty resting her head on his chest.

"I don't want to go home yet, can we stay a little longer?" She asked and Jughead hummed.

"Of course, this is your evening"

"Why have you never showed me this place before?" She asked, lifting her head a bit to kiss him again.

"I don't know. I mean, I just recently discovered it. But I mean... once our little one is here, we can take it here, have more picnics and some summer swims, right?" He suggested.

"Sounds lovely"

"Glad that you like it, I was already looking forward to that ever since I first discovered this place"

"It's just a few more months of waiting and then we are finally a family" Betty said, rolling on her stomach before kissing him again.

"We already are a family"

"I know"

A few kisses later, the two were interrupted by a thunder growl. Jughead looked up at the grey clouds quickly advancing towards them.

"Oh... we should get going back before it starts raining. I don't want you to get sick. Besides, if the thunderstorm is above us it's dangerous to stay so close to the water" Jughead said, sitting up. Betty nodded, getting off of him. The two quickly packed their things before heading back over the stones. Jughead lost grip of his basket though, so he just told Betty to go ahead, giving her the car keys before he went to gather the stuff again. A big thunder announced the rain before it started hitting the earth, like a complete bucket was dumped onto him straight away.

By the time that Jughead reached the car, he was drenched. He closed the trunk and sat down in the drivers seat. He wiped over his face to get rid of the rain before turning to Betty and looking if she was still dry.

"Are you okay? Still dry?" He asked.

"Yeah. I didn't get wet" Betty said, pulling the blanket closer to herself. Jughead nodded, driving a hand through his wet hair before shaking it out.

"That's good. Let's get home to get warm"

"I'm fine, Jug"

"I don't want you to get sick"

"Jug"

"I don't want to risk anything, okay?"

"Okay but then you have to be careful too. I don't want you to get sick either" She said and Jughead nodded, starting the motor again. He drove back home and parked the car in their parking lot.

"Okay, take my jacket, so you won't get too wet" Jughead said, reaching in the backseat before giving it to her. Betty thanked her and covered her head with it before heading over to the front door. Jughead decided to let everything in the car and just headed out with what he had on and in his clothes. He locked the car before walking over to the front door, opening it for the two. They walked inside and Jughead quickly slipped out of jacket and shoes. Then his hoodie followed, so that he was left in jeans and shirt.

"How about you take a bath to get warm again?" Betty suggested, walking over to him to grab his hand.

"Only if you come with me"

"That can be arranged" Jughead nodded. The two walked over to the bathroom and Jughead let in some warm water while Betty grabbed some comfortable clothes for after the bath. She walked back in when Jughead was just filling in some lavender oil.

After a rather long bath, the two got out. Once they had dried themselves, they got into soft clothes. Jughead pulled on some sweatpants over his boxers and his washed out turtleneck (because it was his favorite). Betty just wore panties and a nightgown when they walked to their bedroom. They cuddled up before turning on the TV to watch a movie.

"Thank you for today, Jug, it was really nice" Betty whispered after the movie. She pulled away from him, though only to be able to face him in order to kiss him before resting back down on his chest.

"Just wanted you to have some peace" Jughead whispered back, kissing her crown "Now try to sleep, I've got more things planned for tomorrow"

"You do?"

"Mhm because I love you so much"

"I love you too"
