A Slow Morning

Summary:

Years after the end of Millions Knives, Nai enjoys a lazy morning with his companion and partner. Their biggest concern, if they're even going to make it out of bed.

A post Trimax fluff story.

Notes:

For the Knivio server. Our boys have so much trauma and I just wanted to write some cute and fluffy. It was supposed to be less than 1k words but things got away from me.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Sunlight poured through missing slats in the blinds of their inn window. Just as the sun had risen high enough for the light to hit Nai’s eyes, he woke up with a groan. He’d been having a peaceful, dreamless sleep for once and he was irritated to have it stolen from him. Slowly, he was starting to get accustomed to the idea of letting peace into his life, and even slower still, Nai was allowing himself to admit that he might actually deserve it. Good sleep was one of those few easy luxuries that he was learning to treasure when he could get it.

Sleep was rubbed out of his eyes with the butt of his palm as he did his best to yawn without disturbing the man who seemed to have wrapped around him in the depths of his own slumber. Waking up cocooned in Livio’s heat had become a nearly everyday experience for him. It was so…normal. Who would have thought that five years after trying to destroy the planet and all humanity, Millions Knives would find comfort in the sweet mundane domesticity of waking up next to his partner. There was a word that still felt heavy when he said it but Nai refused to run from its weight, rather, he basked in the pressure.

In the safety of Livio (at least it had been Livio fronting last night) still being asleep, Nai let himself openly observe and admire. Sometimes he still couldn’t believe that he had someone that willingly put up with him on a regular basis, let alone two. sure they may have shared the same body, but each front had their own love language. Both Livio and Razlo not only put up with him, but wanted to be near him. They actually liked his company. Not just enduring it but lazing in his presence like sand under moonlight. Even after everything Nai had done and how much their lives had been turned upside down because of him, they still wanted him. The reverence in their eyes was not that of a follower worshiping their god, but a man bursting with affection for his lover.

It was truly nauseating how poetic they made Nai at times. They would be the first to point out that he had a flair for the dramatic, but poetry for poetry's sake? It wasn't really his style. Vash would probably laugh if he could hear Nai’s thoughts when he looked at either Livio or Razlo. His brother had teased him mercilessly when he’d found out that their travels were no longer purely platonic. It was the first time in at least 3 years that Nai had wanted to strangle him until he’d stopped making that horrendous sound.

It was the first time in even longer that Nai had felt like he could really smile with his brother and just enjoy the moment for what it was. Vash had asked him that night if he was happy, and Nai could truly say that, at least in that moment, he was.

A loud, long snore dragged Nai out of his own mind. At some point during the night, much of Livio's hair had flown free of the braid he kept it in at night, a few strands falling into his open mouth. His long muscled limbs were splayed out across the bed, one arm attempted to keep Nai tucked into his side. The cheap scratchy blankets barely covered him after he had kicked most of it off in the middle of the night. A long unflattering line of dried drool trailed from the corner of his mouth back to his ear. When they had first started traveling together, Nai had fantasized more than once about smothering Livio in his sleep. Now, well he just tried to fall asleep before Livio to avoid the snoring but the chances of midnight murder were exponentially less.

Nai carefully peeled himself from Livio’s hold, no longer able to ignore nature’s call. A large hand gently wrapped around his wrist. Nai looked down to see one honey colored eye blearily looking up at him, his brow furrowed in concern.

“Where ya goin?” sleep slurred Livio’s voice into a rather charming manner that made him want to kiss the former assassin.

Nai couldn’t help but smile. He easily unlinked Livio’s hand from around his wrist and brought it up to his lips to press a light kiss across Livio’s calloused knuckles, “Go back to sleep. I’ll be right back.”

Livio only grunted in response, seeming to understand, before turning over, away from the sun. Only when Nai heard his breathing even back out again did he slip away from the bed. With his partner satisfied, Nai padded across the room to the bathroom. Catching a look at himself in the mirror, Nai froze in his tracks. His hair had grown out quite a bit in the last year or so. The dark strands were thick and wavy, falling to just above his shoulders. No longer spending most of his days inside, there was a light smattering of freckles across his cheeks and the bridge of his nose that came with his albeit slight, but consistent tan.

An almost perfectly circle shaped scar, just below his clavicle on his left side caught his attention. A permanent reminder from where he’d been struck by a stray bullet from a bounty hunter. Nai’s fingers traced over the old wound as he recalled the day that it had happened. He couldn’t really blame anyone but himself. He’d gotten lax about making sure that no one recognized him. He’d gotten too comfortable in the wrong place. The bounty hunter had taken advantage of that and shot Nai in the street without even announcing himself. The pain had spidered across Nai’s chest, catching him off guard and winding him. Although he didn’t need the air, it was still an odd sensation to not be able to inhale. The bullet tearing through his chest had been the worst pain he’d experienced since Octovern.

Before Nai could steady himself, let alone retaliate, Razlo had leapt into action. The hellfire that had rained upon Noman’s Land in his name was almost as breathtaking as the man who had done it. Afterwards, once they were out of town, Razlo had fussed over him relentlessly. It had gone on until Nai had pulled the former assassin down into their bedrolls and begged him to rest. Even then, it had only been when Nai met his eyes and assured him that he was okay, he was alive. That night his protector had held him so tightly that Nai was sure that his fingerprints had been imprinted onto his soul.

By the time he was done in the bathroom the suns had risen even more, casting a hazy warm glow over the room. As much as Nai wanted to listen to the part of his brain that insisted on being an early riser, instead he heeded the call of sliding back into bed with that warm cowboy and stealing his excess body heat.. The moment he was under the covers, Livio once again curled around him with a content hum. A rain of kisses landed over Nai’s face, neck, and shoulders.

“Ugh,” Nai blanched, overly contorting his face, “you’re really going to kiss me with morning breath?”

Despite his complaints Nai didn’t push Livio away, instead melting into the affection. His objections also didn't deter Livio for a moment. Silver flyaway strands of hair tickled Nai's face with each peck.

"Please," Livio replied with a snort, rolling over and pinning Nai under him. A large hand smoothed his hair back out of his face. Nai's heart skipped at the sight, "Remember when the girls got hitched and ya got so drunk trying to keep up with Vash?"

Nai's face went a blotchy red as Livio spoke, "Okay, I get it."

"And someone threw up then wouldn't go to bed until he got a kiss. Then after that he insisted on cuddling, which was super cute-"

Livio’s words were cut off by Nai slapping a hand over his mouth. It wasn’t enough to stop the embarrassment from seeping into Nai’s bones at the memory. It had been his first time ever going to an event like that. It was the first time he had ever been invited. The fact that Milly and Meryl had even felt comfortable enough to invite him to such an important day of their lives meant more to him than he thought they would ever know. Vash had probably been more excited to have Nai there than Nai had been to be there. In a bout of sibling rivalry, Vash had teased Nai about not being able to hold his liquor. Nai knew he should heed Livio's warning, but he hadn’t and Nai still couldn't remember the last hour of the reception.

Behind Nai’s hand, he could feel Livio’s mouth curl into a smile. It was infuriatingly charming.

The sharp nip of teeth on his palm followed quickly by a soothing kiss made Nai’s breath hitch.

“Really?” Nai questioned, raising his eyebrows while he looked up at Livio. He was met with a shrug that only made him roll his eyes, “Give me three reasons why I shouldn’t kick you out of this room.”

Nai removed his hand from Livio’s mouth. With the swiftness of the deadly gunman that he was, LIvio dipped his head to start placing slow kisses along the line of Nai’s throat. Despite his empty opposition, Nai relaxed back into the mattress letting his head roll to the side to give LIvio better access to his neck.

“Hmmm,” Livio hummed, “One, It would be such a shame to lose out on such a nice day in bed. Two, I’m too cute to kick out of bed,”

A laugh was knocked out of Nai at that answer, earning him a nip at his jaw.

“And,” Livio continued, “I know ya love having me right where I am,”

To emphasize his point, Livio hiked Nai’s leg around his waist and pressed their hips together. Nai groaned feeling Livio’s erection pressed against his core. Livio began to rock into Nai with slow, lazy movements. Nai’s fingers wove into Livio’s hair, undoing his braid the rest of the way. Long silver hair cascaded down Livio’s back. Nai was surprised that he still hadn’t cut it, but neither Livio or Razlo seemed interested in having it short in the near future. It was also Nai’s little secret how much he loved running his fingers through it in the quiet moments they had to themselves.

Using the leverage he had on Livio’s hair, Nai guided Livio’s mouth to his own so he could kiss him. Despite his complaints of morning breath, Nai couldn’t help the way his heart fluttered. He moaned into Livio’s mouth as the man above him pinned his body to the bed with his hips alone.

A large hand began to push Nai’s shirt up his torso as Livio pulled away, and began to shift lower on the bed. Kisses were trailed down the newly exposed skin, causing Nai to try and squirm slightly. When Livio reached the waistband of Nai’s sleep pants, Nai lifted his hips so the fabric could be dragged down his legs with ease. It was still odd at times being so comfortable with another person seeing his body that Nai was excited the moment Livio expressed interest in touching him.

A groan filled the room as Livio tossed Nai’s pants to the floor and stared between his legs. Without a word, Livio spread Nai’s legs far enough to make room for himself between them. His palms nearly spanning the plane of Nai’s thighs on their own. He hated when Livio stared, but he couldn’t deny that he enjoyed the reverent look that accompanied it.

Stubble scratched at the delicate flesh of his thighs as LIvio kissed his way down each one as he made his way to Nai’s core where his petals had begun to unfurl. Nai gasped as Livio ran his tongue over where slick had began to coat his thighs. As he reached a petal, Livio would take it into his mouth suck softly before moving on to the next one, coaxing them to open and expose more of Nai to him. When it was Livio fronting, he would take his time using his knowledge of Nai’s body to make the plant fall apart until he was an utter mess.

Nai’s breath was coming in heavy pants as his hips arched off the bed towards the wet heat of Livio’s mouth. A firm hand pressed down against his navel to hold him still. Before he could complain, Livio’s tongue slid from his dripping entrance up to his bud drawing a cry from Nai. His lips wrapped around the bud and his tongue moved over it in tight circles pulling a needy whine from the dark haired plant.

Glancing down, he was met with Livio's hazel eyes burning into him. A searing shiver ran up Nai's spine at the look. Livio lapped at the slick dripping from him, pressing his face closer to Nai's petals. The ridge of his nose pressed against Nai's bud, sending little jolts of pleasure through him as Livio's tongue fucked into his entrance.

Nai's eyes screwed shut as a long moan was pulled from his lips. He desperately tried to rut against Livio's face, but the hand on his stomach just held him down firmer, simply making him take the delightful onslaught. It wasn't fucking fair how strong Livio was. Nai made a frustrated grunt that caused Livio to chuckle against his core.

“What's the rush darlin'?” Livio asked, his low twang slurred with a need of his own. It shouldn’t have been as attractive as it was to see the bottom of his face wet with Nai’s slick. The sight made Nai’s core pulse with want and he was sure it showed on his face from the way Livio looked at him, “We’ve got nowhere else to be.”

“You always want to go so slow,” Nai complained breathily.

Livio placed a kiss to Nai’s thigh as his free hand moved between his legs to take its time tracing over each of Nai’s petals. The touch was soft and teasing before two thick fingers slid past his entrance. This made Nai’s head fall back against the pillows as he felt his whole body shudder with a loud but low moan. His eyes screwed shut as Livio began to rock his hand, his thumb grazing against Nai’s bud with each thrust.

“If you could see what I got to look at everyday, you’d want to take your time too,” the sincerity was woven so deeply into Livio’s words that Nai couldn’t ignore it. By now he would think that he'd be used to it, but every time it stole his breath away. Words of affection seemed to come so much easier to Livio. Even after all these years Nai still struggled to make his mouth form the words that he wanted to say, but Livio was always patient with him.

Instead of replying, Nai tangled his fingers in Livio’s hair and pulled his face back between his legs. Livio relented with a lustful chuckle before taking Nai’s bud back into his mouth. At the same time he curled his fingers to press up as he thrust into Nai, making him cry out.

“Oh fuck, Livio please. I’m so close,” Nai begged. Just another thing Nai wasn't sure he would ever get used to, the fact that this man could make him plead for what he wanted.

In response, a third finger slipped inside of him, causing Nai to hiss at the slight sting of the stretch before it gave way to overwhelming pleasure. Livio’s tongue moved over his bud directly making Nai’s legs tremble as the heat in his gut coiled tighter and tighter until it finally snapped. Nai’s cry filled the room as his leg’s locked around Livio’s head. That didn’t slow Livio down as he continued to lap at Lai’s petals, his fingers thrusting into Nai relentlessly, drawing out his orgasm.

Pleasure began to fade into overstimulation and Nai had to force his legs to relax in order to tug Livio’s face back away from between his legs. He was met with a pleasure drunk, debauched expression on Livio’s face that had Nai wanting to do nothing but ruin the human further. With a growl, Nai pulled Livio up to him and into a starving kiss. The overly sweet honeyed taste of himself hit his tongue as Livio’s pressed into his mouth making Nai’s head swim even more. He hungrily devoured the groan that Livio made as Nai’s hand in his hair tightened.

“I need you,” Livio begged against Nai’s lips, “please let me take care of you.”

“Yes, always yes,” Nai replied just as desperately.

Removing Livio’s pants was a much more frantic affair. They were unceremoniously kicked off once they were down far enough to free Livio’s cock. LIvio crushed their lips together in another kiss before pressing his forehead against Nai’s as he lined himself up at Nai’s entrance. Their voices mixed as Livio slowly sank inside of Nai until their hips were pressed flush together.

Despite the desperation in his tone, Livio still took his time, much to Nai’s frustration. Each drag of his cock as he pulled out before snapping his hips forward was enough to drive Nai mad. It was slow enough that he could feel every inch. The tremors moving down his legs had him wondering if he would even be able to leave the bed after Livio was done with him today.

Maybe that wouldn't be too bad.

Hooking his hand under Nai’s knee’s, Livio pressed his legs against his chest letting him sink even deeper causing Nai’s mouth to fall open in a silent cry. Nai clenched down hard around Livio’s cock causing his rhythm to stutter.

Nai managed to crack open an eye to look up at his partner and he could see the way his face was contorted in pleasure. The sight of Livio above him, hair framing his face as it fell in curtains around them and catching the golden rays of the sun, Nai felt his chest tighten in a way that overwhelmed him with emotion.

“I love you,” the words fell from his lips before he could think. It wasn’t the first time he’d said them, but he was more likely to show his feelings than speak them. This moment had sparked something in him that he just couldn’t contain.

Livio’s eyes snapped open as he stared down at Nai. His amber eyes were warm and soft and overflowing with adoration. Nai was safe. He was home.

“I love you too,” Livio whispered against Nai’s lips as he leaned in to kiss him. Tears threatened to fall from Nai’s eyes but he did his best to hold them back.

Livio’s hand moved between them to stroke where their bodies were joined, coaxing Nai to his second orgasm. When his calloused fingers slid up to his bud, Nai practically screamed. His body fluttering around Livio’s cock.

“Fuckin' hell,” Livio cursed as he completely lost his rhythm and just pounded into Nai’s body until his own orgasm over took him. His hips snapped forward against Nai’s, spilling into him as Nai’s body clenched tight around him. His dull nails digging into the pillow as his hips rolled in a subconscious attempt to keep Livio as deep inside him as he came.

Both men were left panting and sweating, attempting to catch their breath. Nai whimpered when Livio finally pulled out, feeling their cum slide down his thighs. Livio made sure to roll over to his side so that he wouldn’t collapse on Nai’s smaller form. Not that Nai would have minded. It was nice sometimes to have the weight on him, grounding him.

A chill settled over Nai now that he no longer had another body on top of him. He pulled the sheet over him before tucking himself against Livio’s chest. He groaned as exhaustion began to settle into his bones and he could feel the whisper of sleep in the back of his mind. Livio’s warm arms wrapped around him and pulled him closer, weakening Nai to the urge to just stay here for the rest of the day.

“We should get up” Nai mumbled into Livio’s chest, the hair there tickling his nose.

Livio nodded with a hum as his fingers began to pet Nai’s hair. His nails scratching softly at Nai’s scalp, making the plant emit a faint purring sound, “We should…or…”

“Or?”

“Or we could just stay here a bit longer. I don’t have any jobs today and we have enough food that we don’t really have to go down to the saloon,” Livio sounded like he’d been preparing this argument for longer than the past minute.

Who was Nai to deny him?

Nai tipped his head up to place a kiss to Livio’s jaw. The other man tipped his face down to kiss Nai properly, letting it stay slow and lazy..

“That sounds acceptable to me but…”

Livio’s face scrunched up into a pout that Nai had to fight the urge to kiss away, “But?”

Nai nodded, “But we should shower.”

“Oh, okay,”

“Together,”

“Oh,” Livio responded to Nai’s addition. Nai raised his eyebrows in an incredulous look that caused everything to lick into place in Livio’s brain, “Oh! Yeah! We should do that!”

Unable to hold back this time, Nai laughed as his partner excitedly rolled out of bed and grabbed his hand. He let Livio guide him out of bed and into the start of the rest of their day.
