Lamp shading for beginners

Summary:

Ron’s face softened, and he didn’t look upset at the outburst, which was very Ron of him, and also very kind. He pulled out his wand, aiming at a blank section of the desk. “There you go.”

Files appeared, and she quickly glanced through them, “The backlog?”

Ron shrugged, “Came in her earlier when you were out, thought you might use some help.”

Work Text:

“Hey, Mione!”

Hermione looked up.

Usually, seeing Ron was a refreshing sight in the midst of her tedious, repetitive and, honestly, annoying work, or, more accurately, co-workers, but there was a glint in his eye she correlated with the twins, and that did not bode well for her, or her peace of mind.

“What do you want?”

He exaggeratedly pouted, “Why do I have to want something? Can’t I just be here to support my awesome girlfriend at her job?”

She tried not to let her lips quirk up at that, but, judging by the way Ron’s smile brightened, she failed. “While it is great to see you, I currently have a backlog of papers due in tomorrow and no one competent enough to do them. And that doesn’t include the new protests about the ‘anti-pureblood’ legislation, as they call it. Have you tried arguing with people who think they deserve to say slurs? It’s exhausting.”

So, maybe she had bitten of more than she could chew, but no one else would do it. People didn’t want to get into the nitty gritty parts of the wizarding world, even the ones who said they were on her side. Just too much opposition. Which meant that Hermione had to do it, along with all her other roles, and people had already started complaining that she had too much power and was abusing it, there just really wasn’t any time for a break, or Ron, as much as it pained her to admit.

“I appreciate it, Ron, I really do, but-”

“Don’t worry, gave it all to Percy. You should consider taking him on as an assistant or something, he’s going to finish his project soon, and I think he’d be a real asset.”

That, wasn’t a horrible plan. Percy was skilled, knowledgeable... She pulled out her notebook, jotting down that she needed to interview Percy.

“Thank you, Ron. That, has helped a lot.”

Ron moved closer, grinning. “And, I took care of the protests, too.”

She blinked. “How?”

“Well, you’re right, it’s hard to deal with people who don’t listen. So, I threw Luna their way.”

That... Would work.

“Are you sure she’s safe?”

“Yep,” Ron said, popping the p, “Ginny’s there with her.”

That combination would have made her feel bad for the protestors, if they weren’t horrible people. “You are, without a doubt, the best boyfriend I could have possibly asked for.”

Ron blushed, rubbing the back of his neck, “It was nothing, just wanted to help you out.”

She leaned in to peck his lips, “And it did, very much. So, what did you want? I actually have some time for once, and I’d love to spend it with you.”

Something in Ron’s expression changed, maybe a tad more serious, but also with a shit-eating grin; she didn’t like the combo. “I have a proposition!”

“What kind?”

“Well, it’ll piss of the purebloods and help the statue of secrecy all in one go. I know we’ve been having problems with that since the war.”

They had. Surprisingly, hiding an entire war from a community who shared the same places as you was tricky, who’d have guessed. Voldemort did a real number on the muggles, and there was an amount of gas leaks an area could have before people started getting suspicious.

“Go on.”

“We make a movie!”

“Ron, do you know what that is?”

He rolled his eyes, “Yeah, it’s like a moving picture you can film, Harry told me about it when I brought it up with him.”

“I’m afraid you lost me.”

“Well, what better way to hide magic, then put it in plain sight?”

“And, make a movie about it?” She asked, sceptically.

“No, the books come first; they’ll be easier to distribute. All of them, about Harry and his search for the horcruxes, and, how we do magic.”

Ron was so excited, and she didn’t want to break that, but... “You want to break the statue of secrecy?”

“No! Well, not really, look. If we make a book, about everything, mainly our magic, and someone sees that, would they think of magic, or an overeager cosplayer?”

That, wasn’t a horrible idea. “What does Harry think of this?”

“He agreed, though made me promise I’d make him less whiny, but, accuracy, right?”

She frowned, “Harry isn’t whiny. What about everyone else that would be in the books?”

Ron’s grin widened, “That’s the thing, wizarding laws don’t count on muggles. You can’t blame someone in, let’s say, Holland, for breaking a British law when they’ve never been, and don’t even know it exists.”

“And how will something like that happen?”

“Your parents are muggles, aren’t they? There’s the Dursleys, though I can’t be blamed for what I do when I see them, or just a random person, a pen name, perhaps. They won’t arrest a war hero, and, if they do, me and Harry would break you out. And then we could start that dictatorship we’ve always wanted...” He added under his breath.

She glared at him, but one more emergency memo and she’d let him do whatever.

“They’ll figure out it’s us.”

“There’s enough biographies of us that it could be anyone.”

She mulled it over in her head, on the one hand, they’d need someone to write the books, and they had to make sure they’d wouldn’t be caught, it also might cause some problems when getting muggle-borns to believe them...

On the other hand, the look on the purebloods faces would be priceless.

“It also means that people would have to learn more about muggles...”

Fuck it.

“Okay, even if Harry is okay with it, I want to double check. I feel like this should mainly be about him seeing as he is the chosen one. We might be able to do some magic to make it popular, but it needs to be good or no one will stick around. We’ll have a while before it gains traction, and more before the purebloods find out...”

If she played her cards right, she might even be able to increase muggle inclusion laws because of the incident. Someone being able to publish a book about wizards to muggles would be a big deal to everyone on the wizengamot.

She began to scribble furiously in her notebook, there was so much to do.
