Chapter Text
Carlos had recently arrived in a friendly desert community called Nightvale with a team of scientists in order to study the oddities of the town. Carlos had been working non-stop on discovering and dissecting anomalies in Nightvale. It was late at night, and Carlos was walking through the streets of Nightvale. No other people in sight. The milk-light of the moon shone down on the little town, almost guiding Carlos. For some reason the street lights hadn't turned on today. It didn't bother Carlos though, it gave the street some more ambiance. Carlos's perfect hair and sharp labcoat flowed in the wind, it was a light and crisp breeze.
As Carlos walked down the sidewalk, a street lamp further down turned on. It illuminated the street with a pink light, a figure stood under it. Carlos got closer. A fence with signs bolted to it was on the side of the street. Carlos paid no mind to it, and kept his eyes locked on the mysterious person. As he neared the person, he could see their figure more. They had long grey hair, that almost went down to the bottom of their legs. They wore a long black dress, with a few grey stripes that started at their arm, progressively longer as it reached the bottom of the dress. In the gray stripes, a design that resembled eyes filled the blank space. They wore a strapless dress, that started at their chest and reached the ground. The rest of their body - that Carlos could see - was covered in eyes, all staring at Carlos. He felt like the eyes were glowing. The entity was smiling at him, it clearly was not human. Carlos didn't know how to feel. He was fearful, intrigued, confused, shocked, surprised? He was many things. He didn't know what to say. How do you even greet someone in this situation? How do you even greet someone like THIS?! They seemed supernatural, and powerful. What if Carlos offended them and the creature tore his eyes out to use as decoration? What if that was how the being had gotten all those eyes?! Carlos was freaking himself out, he took a moment to clear his thoughts, he closed his eyes and counted down until his pulse regulated and his worrying thoughts became quieter.

Chapter Text
Carlos slowly opened his eyes, only to find that the being had gotten closer. Very, very, close. Carlos leaned back as the being towered above him, leaning into his face. Carlos looked over to the side, only to find that they were floating, their feet placed on platforms that resembled eyes. Carlos was horrified, had he done something he shouldn't have? What had he done? Would his life be taken from him tonight? Carlos's mind swirled with all the possible fates that could befall him at this moment. Each scenario more gruesome than the last. The being continued to watch him from up close, a smile still glued to their face and all of their eyes watching him.
"You must be Carlos the Scientist right?" The creature levitated a little further away, the street lights followed him wherever he moved. Carlos was shaking, this entity knew his name, of course he wasn't going to make it out of this encounter alive. "Y-Yes. My name is Carlos, and I am a scientist." Carlos managed to sputter out a sentence, while he still attempted to maintain his professional composure. Fear and curiosity consumed his being. The being seemed delighted at this confirmation. "I knew it! I could tell because of your teeth like a military cemetery, the sharp lab coat, beautiful jaw, and perfect hair!" The other swooned, putting their hands together in delight. Carlos stopped shaking. This description was a little… off-putting, so to say. This entity didn't seem to want to harm him, in fact he seemed to want quite the opposite. Their voice was very familiar, it was velvety and calming. "I'm sorry, but who are you?" Carlos asked it, he'd like to be able to refer to it by name. Plus, since this being knew who he was, he only found it fair. "Oh, I'm Cecil Palmer. Surely you've heard the voice on the radio since you've come into town?" Cecil's smile grew larger, clearly he took pride in his work. Carlos realized that this person who claimed to be Cecil Palmer was that radio host/reporter! "Oh, I've heard you on the radio before! Is your show government mandated, because whatever is on before your show gets cut off by a violent wave of static?" Carlos inquired, he had tried to change the channel, but when Mr. Palmer's show was on, it wouldn't let him and several glowing red sigils would appear on the tile floor. He had no idea in the slightest of what any of them meant. All he knew was that it was an awful experience and he refused to touch them until he knew what they meant. Though it was really difficult to restrain the urge to poke them with something. Nightvale never ceased to provide Carlos with something to study, even if he was always terrified each time something new was introduced. Carlos snapped back to reality, he was being rude. After all, he had JUST met Mr. Palmer, and while he'd love to ask him a million questions, he should speak with him normally first! Yup, just gotta make small talk with him. Not that hard. Cmon Carlos, just talk to him!
