Chapter Text
I woke up thinking it was going to be a good day. Why did I think that again? Maybe it’s because I finally was able to wake up without my sister, Tora, acting as my alarm clock. Yeah, she’s something else. Dad practically picked her up off the street when I was 14 and she was 11 and we’ve been inseparable ever since, even when I was in Japan. She’s still a pain in the ass as a 20 year old. Well, time to get my revenge for the past 9 years.
I go to her room thinking she will be in her bed, but she had fallen asleep at her desk. She’s a writer, and a successful one at that. I feel very proud of her but I also feel slightly envious that she was able to fulfill her dream and I haven’t been drafted to the NBA yet. It will happen soon. I just know it.
“Wake up, you brat.” Tora slowly wakes up with a big yawn. Her pale blonde hair is a mess and her silver eyes are misted over when she looked at me and stuck out her tongue. “I’m awake, calm your ass down.” I rolled my eyes and scoffed at her. “That’s rich coming from someone who literally witch cackled in the morning in order to wake me up.” She looks at me with a mischievous smile and stretches her petite body. As she stretches, I noticed that she was working on a new project.
I read it out of curiosity as she left to go brush her teeth, and I guess the saying curiosity killed the cat was true since I was appalled at what she had written. I stomp to the bathroom to confront her.
“What the hell is this?!” She startles at my words and looks at me with an annoyed expression when she realizes what I was holding in my hand. She smirked at me and says, “It’s a new work I’m doing with a friend. What do you think?”
I personally thought the storyline was too cliche. But what really ticked me off was the characters.
“Did I do something to you to deserve this?” She rolls her eyes fondly at me and asks me why I was being so dramatic as she stole the paper back and read out the characters and their backstories.
“Akashi Seijurou: the crown prince who is efficient and diligent in his work but dissociates often because of the stress of being perfect.”
“Kuroko Tetsuya: the half-brother of Akashi who is not in line for the throne since his mom is a concubine. He prefers to use his invisibility to help Akashi by being his eyes and ears as a spy.”
“Murasakibara Atsushi: a beast on the training grounds due to his family being strict on him. He has no interest in his knighthood and would rather spend his day eating sweets instead.”
“Midorima Shintarou: being the only male heir to the dukedom, he is uptight and arrogant. However, he has a huge soft side for the people he is closest to, especially his younger sister.”
“Aomine Daiki: he is far too lenient and uncaring of his duties but his strength had earned him respect from the other knights, although he is crass.”
“Kise Ryouta: he is friendly and pleasant to look at, so many women had fallen for him. Although he looks happy on the outside, he is actually saddened that people never look further beyond his looks.”
“Momoi Satsuki: the heroine who looks sweet and innocent on the outside, but is actually very calculating. She is the only female member of the GOM and has gotten a lot of attention for it.”
“And last but not least, Kagami Taiga: he is the demon king who wishes to take the heroine away from the GOM and keep her to himself. He is the villain who wants to rule the world.”
Tora looks at me with a raised eyebrow and asks me what’s wrong.I was flabbergasted.
“First of all, you can’t use people in real life as characters for your game.” I was worried about what the GOM would think if they saw their names on a video game. They would probably be pissed off. “You could have at least used different names.” She looks at me with a smirk until she realized how distraught I was over this. Her smirk fades away as she comforts me by saying that she would change the characters’ names. I was content after she said that and I told her that she can walk with me during my morning walk.
As we were walking, I asked her why she made me the obsessed villain. She laughed and said that she thought it was good revenge for all the times I stole her food.
I yelled, “Screw you sis!” and nudged her shoulder. I might have accidentally put a little more force than I intended and she went careening into the road. Fortunately, I was able to pull her back in the nick of time. However, in doing this, I switched positions with her and the last thing I saw was a truck before everything went black.

Truck-Kun has done it again
Chapter Text
My mind was awake before my eyes opened. I’ve been in a hospital before so I knew to use my other senses first. It seemed that I had no pain which was unsettling considering that I got hit by a truck. However, the room I was in was very quiet and it smelled musty. It wasn’t the slightly bitter sterilized smell that I know hospitals usually have so I became more alert and opened my eyes. I slowly sat up and turned to look at my bleak and empty but spacious surroundings. It might have been a grand bedroom once.
Suddenly, I heard voices coming from outside the door. I panicked and tried to pretend I was asleep but then I realized that the voices sounded familiar. Two people who I haven’t seen in a long time looked at me like I found a rare gem. It was Riko and her father.
Even though I was confused about how they were in America, I was so happy to see them. But then, I noticed that Riko was wearing a tattered maid outfit and Kagetora-san was wearing a butler outfit in similar condition. They both looked like they had been worked to the bone. Something was wrong.
After Kagetora-san seemed to regain his ability to speak, he cleared his throat and bowed. I looked over my shoulder to see to whom he was bowing, and of course, I hit my head on the bed frame. Riko starts snickering and her dad nudges her with a frown and tells that she shouldn’t be rude.
“Yeah Riko, don’t be rude.” Both father and daughter’s eyes widened at my response and I smelled their fear growing by the second. I was quick to reassure them that it was a joke and although Kagetora-san seemed wary, Riko’s fear went away. Good thing too cuz I hate the smell of fear. It evokes the feeling of being trapped in tar or quicksand. I shuddered as I thought that and Riko came to my bedside with a worried expression.
“Are you alright, your majesty?” Riko asked as she looked me over. She became slightly flustered as she scanned my torso but she shook herself out of it after her father cleared his throat. It reminded me so much of our first practice that I let out a small smile. But then I froze. I looked at her and asked, “Why are you calling me your majesty?”
Both father and daughter gasp in shock. They look at each other and have a silent conversation. I used to be jealous of that easy connection and I longed to have that with my own father. Anyways, it seemed that they came to an agreement and Riko left the room while Kageyama-san told me something that rocked my world.
“Kagami Taiga, you were in a coma for the last three months so you might not remember, but you are the future demon king.”
I sat there speechless before it hit me what I must do. I got up from the bed, went to the window, opened it, and screamed at the top of my lungs. After I finished, I felt much better. I raised my eyebrows at a slightly horrified but mostly bemused Kagetora-san.
“Did you really have to open the window?” he asked me. “It’s a part of the process,” I answered with a shrug. He looked at me with serious concern before realizing I wouldn’t budge. He then groaned, rubbed his forehead with his fingers, and took a deep breath. He said, “Well, at the very least, we don’t have to worry about your lung capacity.” I looked at him and we both laughed until our sides started hurting.

Whenever I put “then it hit me,” I am always reminded of the role Truck-Kun had. Thank you, we will never forget you

Chapter Text
Riko then came in to the sight of us laughing our asses off. “What the hell did I miss?” she asked, shocked and delighted. I was about to answer when I realized that she had brought Hyuuga along with her. I missed his brash, no-nonsense behavior as well.
Kagetora-san had also noticed Hyuuga’s presence as he stood up straight and set his face into a disapproving frown.
Hyuuga also looked nervous in front of him. I felt kind of bad for him. Riko then clapped her hands together to get our attention and she was about to say something but then she dove underneath the bed. I was confused why she did this until I saw who entered the room.
It was Alex and true to her character, she went and gave me a big kiss. I was immune to it but the reactions Hyuuga and Kagetora-san had were just so hilarious that I couldn’t help myself. I whispered to Alex that Riko was under the bed and Alex’s face lit up. She bent down and yanked Riko from under the bed and gave her a big kiss too.
“How could you betray me like this, your majesty?” Riko exclaimed with a deep blush. I just smiled at her in response but that only seemed to irritate her. Hyuuga rushed to grab Riko from Alex but then thought better of it when he saw Kagetora-san’s glare that threatened to destroy him if he touched her.
As I was observing this, a soft hand ran through my hair. I looked up and I saw Tatsuya. “When did you come in?” I asked with shock. He raised an eyebrow at me and smirked before saying that he came in when Alex was tormenting Riko. I shook my head fondly and rolled my eyes at him.
Hyuuga looked overwhelmed at the scene so he asked everyone to be quiet so that I could be properly taken care of. Tatsuya looked like he was about to retort but I pleaded with my eyes not to cause any trouble. He looked at me and smiled fondly while shaking his head.
“What can you remember?” Alex asked. I didn’t know what to say. I was only aware of the GOM’s backgrounds. I said, “I can’t remember anything but my and your names.” I felt guilty for lying so I added in a sorry. Riko was quick to dismiss my apology and she started to explain.
“Your Majesty, frankly it’s amazing that you knew our names considering that you’ve been in a coma since the week you came here.” I was shocked when Riko said this. I asked her, “What do you mean?” She said, “Well, based on what Alex and Tatsuya told us, your mother was actually a human servant who your father had an affair with. She escaped into the human realm on the other side and raised you as a human. However, your father found out about you about two months ago and he took you in. You were in a coma because the bastard depleted your mana against your will. He didn’t even have the decency to stay and take care of you. He left you here with us.” She looked furious after explaining everything so I grabbed her hand gently and told her that I was grateful for her and everyone else for staying with me. It’s always nice to have people who’s got your back.

Suddenly, Riko grasped my arm and dragged me out of the room. I don’t why her strength still surprises me but it does. Even though I was shocked, I still was able to observe the surroundings and everything seemed pretty bare. Something’s wrong. Isn’t a demon king supposed to be super rich? My mind stopped swirling with thoughts about what could have happened when we reached a beautiful greenhouse.
“Wow,” I said breathlessly. Riko glanced at me for the first time since she dragged me and smiled, seemingly pleased with my reaction. I heard a sigh behind me and I glanced back to see that everyone had followed us. We went inside and there were three more people who seemed to be pruning the plants.
Fukuda, Kawahara, and Tsuchida looked up from their handiwork and their eyes widened. They all stood stock still until Riko yelled at them to bow down. I looked over my shoulder to see who they needed to bow down to. In doing this, I tripped on a pair of clippers that was just lying around. I fell in the rose bushes face first and I could hear everyone start to panic. Well, almost everyone. Riko laughed so hard that she started snorting. Her father rolled his eyes and helped me out.
“Why the hell are you idiots panicking so much? Don’t any of you have any brain cells left?” Kagetora-san asked unamused and slightly annoyed. Everyone quickly shut up and Fukuda ran to brush out the leaves sticking to my shirt which was in worse shape than before. Fukuda then realized what he was doing and stepped back while babbling out apologies.
Kawahara and Tsuchida looked scared of my reaction which made me ask.
“What’s going on?” Why do you all look like I’m going to smack the shit out of you for the littlest of things?” I was bracing myself for the answer. What will I do if I made such a bad impression already?! I need them on my side.
Riko then went to the front and said, “Your majesty, to be frank, we don’t really know much about you. We were afraid that you would be like your father.”
“Wait, oh my-what the fuck?! Don’t tell me that on top of stealing my… whatever it’s called, he mistreated you guys too!” I said, anger growing when Riko affirmed it.
“It’s called mana and on top of that, he stole a lot of things. I’m sorry that you had to wake up in such a bland place.” Riko said steadily but her eyes seemed wary.
“That son of a bitch!” I screamed out in frustration. He’s making my life harder here as well. Goddamnit.
Kagetora-san started guffawing and Alex and Tatsuya looked unsurprised at my reaction, maybe even a little proud. It’s at times like these that I am grateful that my sister let my character have my personality. It would be harder for me to adjust.
Kagetora-san stopped after some time and looked ashamed at his reaction. I don’t know why he was, since apparently my dad up and left, so he wasn’t even here to hear us bash him.
“Your majesty, honestly we were in some financial trouble before, which is probably why the king ran away. Then, we used up some money that was left behind to try to get you out of your coma.” Hyuuga said. Honestly, I thought my father was bad, but at least he had a strong moral code, something I inherited along with my eyebrows. He also wouldn’t put me in a coma, though he probably wouldn’t even know if I had gone to the hospital in the first place.
I sighed heavily and went to lean on Tatsuya, who gave me sympathy pats on my head. I’m glad we still have a brotherly relationship here too. After I was recharged, I went in front of everyone and clapped my hands in order to get their attention.
“Right, so first things first, since my deadbeat father is gone, am I automatically the demon king?” Everyone winced as I asked this and Riko said sadly, “…not officially.” I asked her to explain. She then said, “Technically, you aren’t the demon king yet since your dad is still recognized as the demon king. He has to die or give up his title.” Ugh, he’s a pain in the ass even when he’s not here. That has to be a talent or something.
“Then, we’ve got to find him first then and bring him back here dead or alive.” I said with a deadpan tone. Kagetora-san shuddered and then chuckled. He then said, “You definitely deserve the title instead of that bastard. Alex and Tatsuya had a point when they vouched for your honor. However, we already sent out Kiyoshi and some other knights to track him, since Alex thought you might say that.”
“So, they know where he is then? Is he far away?” I asked, still buzzing with happiness from the pride of Kagetora-san. Alex then used her powers to communicate with Kiyoshi. So freakin cool. Kiyoshi’s familiar calm voice filled the room though it sounded weary. “What’s up? How’s his majesty?” he asked. Alex then said that I had woken up from the coma and I had wanted to speak with him. He perked up from the news and was fully alert when he saw me. He looked a little surprised at my appearance since my shirt was all torn up, but decided not to ask.
“Your majesty, it is good to see you healthy.” I smirked at him and said, “To be honest, I don’t think I can fully recover until that bastard is held responsible.” He smiled back at me with a devious glint in his eye and replied, “Well, he’s at a bar right now, probably gambling with the hard-earned money of the people. I think it’s time he comes back.” I told him a few more things to do quietly and he “hung up.”
I looked back at everyone in the greenhouse with a peaceful expression on my face. Well, at least I thought it was peaceful, but everyone looked concerned and slightly horrified. They all collectively looked at Tatsuya and he sighed before coming up to me. I guess he’s the spokesperson. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and turned me around. He then whispered, “Taiga, you know I love you, right? I just wanted to let you know that your face is kind of freaking out the others.” I looked at him and whispered back, “Sorry that not all of us were born with model-like faces.” He winced at my response and backpedaled to say that there’s nothing wrong with my face and that it was just because they weren’t used to how honest my emotions can be. I scoffed at that because they’ve all met Kiyoshi but I shrugged it off since it wasn’t that important. He apologized for saying something insensitive and I accepted. I’m used to it anyways and I know he meant well. He went back to Alex who smacked him on the head for making me sad. I sniggered at his pout and felt satisfied.
Kawahara looked like he wanted to ask me something, but he was interrupted by a bunch of knights led my Kiyoshi. And there my father was all dirty and bruised. Riko gasped and asked Kiyoshi what he had done. Kiyoshi smiled at her and said that he got full approval from me. He looked at me and I gave him a thumbs up before going to my father. No, not my father, just a stranger who wears his face. A horrible stranger who clearly still hasn’t learned his lesson with how he is leering at Riko and Alex. I looked at Kiyoshi and thanked him for bringing him here, but I must take him away again and to continue with the plan. He looked a bit confused but he held his hand over his heart in a gesture full of trust.
Alex then got me the crown which was garish and heavy and some some clean clothes. As I changed, I was wondering how I should punish him. As horrible as he is, he shares the same face as my father from the original world. I don’t wish to kill him. I got an idea and asked Tatsuya whether I should do it or not. He looked excited and offered to help since he was a mage.
I came out to see Kiyoshi’s masterpiece tied up at the bottom of the stairs and a new handprint on his face that looked suspiciously similar to Riko’s. I went down to him with Tatsuya by my side and my father glared up at us.
“Would you stop at nothing to keep your power?” I asked him. He smirked at me and said, “I have no need for anything else.” Then he spat out the word son mockingly. I sighed sadly at his words and said, “Here is your beloved power then,” and I placed the crown on his head. He looked despicably gleeful before he realized that the crown was turning him into stone. He tried to get it off, but to no avail. He became a statue with a shriek. Frankly, I think it was strangely symbolic.
I took the crown off of his head since I could probably sell it and I looked around to see everyone who had gathered gaping at the scene. Kiyoshi looked absolutely gobsmacked and I would have laughed if it was a different situation. Instead, I bowed to the people and said, “Thank you for being my witnesses and I am sorry for what my father has done. I promise that it will not happen again.” This seemed to get them out of their stupor and they quickly kneeled down all synchronized which freaked me out. Yet, the only thing going through my head is that I hope that in at least one universe I would have a father who cares for me. For now though, I should probably get used to this king thing.
Notes:
Kagami definitely has a complicated relationship with his dad. #borderline_daddy_issues
Chapter 5: I’m not ready for this
Chapter Text
Becoming king has actually not been so bad… besides taking care of the kingdom that my father has financially ruined. Screw him for being trash and leaving mistakes for me to clean up. Thankfully, I’ve gotten help from everyone, especially Riko and Kagetora-san. Apparently, they were the substitute rulers when I was in a coma. Honestly, I think the kingdom would be better off in their hands but they have faith in my ability.
Since I needed all the help I could get, the first thing I had done after becoming king was to call a meeting with Kiyoshi, Hyuuga, Riko, Alex, Himuro, and Kagetora-san. I wanted to call the others but I could tell they weren’t comfortable enough with me yet. Soon, the meetings started becoming frequent when it was obvious to everyone that I had no idea what I was doing. They were more like classes in disguise into the proper etiquette of a demon king. I was surprised at that since the first thing that comes to mind when you think about demons is definitely not etiquette. Riko and Kagetora-san were harsh teachers while the others tried to support me in my studies.
I also learned more about economics in these meetings, but that was something I already knew. My father, ever the businessman, was passionate that my sister and I knew how to do finances. We became pretty good since we had to live alone from a young age and all. Everyone seemed a bit surprised by my knowledge, which is slightly insulting. Alex and Himuro came to my defense by smugly saying that I had studied in Kiseki University before learning about my father. Everyone’s eyes widened at that, so I guess the school was super prestigious or something.
Riko then excitedly asked me, “Wait, since you’re 23 now, does that mean you were in the same class as the GOM?” I was stunned speechless as I had forgotten that the GOM is in this world. Himuro came to my rescue yet again and answered her. “We were commoners at that time so we weren’t in the same classes. I doubt they even noticed that either of us existed.” I snorted at that since Himuro’s pretty face is hard to ignore. I just know he had many people all over him. Alex also looked amused at his answer and shook her head fondly.
Before the conversation could turn to how perfect the GOM was, which it usually did from experience, I interrupted with my idea. “After everything you’ve all said about demons, they might not be the nicest beings but they definitely would not have been happy with the way my father has been ruling. I assume there are many people, especially with money, who detest my father?” Everyone nodded though they seemed confused as to where I am going with this. “What if, we have them pay money to do whatever they want to the statue with whatever torture devices they want, obviously with a cost as well?” We can restore the statue each day with a spell so it can be a start to get the money flowing again.” It was kind of based on the Kick-the-Buddy app or the dunk tank. Everyone looked bewildered at my suggestion except for Kagetora-san who started laughing while saying how diabolical I was and that it was hard to believe that nobody ever found out about my demon heritage before. I think that’s a compliment, but at least I got his approval. And knowing the amount of people who he pissed him off, perhaps my father would be better off dead.
I knew this would be a temporary fix, so I had to think of something more permanent. The best things that the kingdom has got going for it is the amount of land it has as well as the undiscovered mines under it that the previous kings were too lazy to take advantage of. I suggested putting more manpower into finding these mines which definitely got a positive response from Hyuuga and Kiyoshi who went out immediately to get the knights ready. I then looked at Riko and told her to sell anything that was excessive since our first priority is the people’s well being. Although the castle was on the barer side, Kiyoshi and his knights did a great job retrieving all the luxuries my father stole. It immediately made me want to gouge my eyes out with how much it dazzled and I gagged. Ugh, I was really not made to be royal. My reaction did amuse the knights though, so that’s a plus. Riko bowed to me and said that it is an honor for her to be my servant. I dismissed her with a smile before turning to Kagetora-san who looked at me like he was going to say something he knows I would not like very much.
“Your majesty, I am sure you are aware but the villagers have not seen their new king yet. They have only heard about you. I know it would be hard to have a coronation banquet now, but we could still do the Procession.” I sighed since I knew he got a point and I agreed on the condition that I get a more informal crown. He looked at me with a knowing smirk before dragging me out of the castle. I was confused but then realized that this was the first time I had came out of the walls. Luckily, the houses of the villagers did not need too much renovation. We ended up at a small shack near the edge of the forest where I heard another familiar voice.
“Kagetora-san, it’s great to see you and who is this?” said Furihata warmly with a hint of worry. Poor Furi. It seems like he has social anxiety in this world as well. He was practically shaking in his boots. Kagetora-san told me that this was Furihata and was about to introduce me but I intervened before he could do so. “It’s nice to meet you, Furihata. My name is Taiga.” Furi seemed to relax after I gave him what I hoped was an encouraging and warm smile. He loosened his grip on the door and let us in. He asked, “Would I like a water of glass?” before slapping himself on the forehead looking extremely embarrassed. Kagetora-san and I nodded and Furihata left in a hurry.
“Your majesty, why didn’t you let me introduce you properly?” I shot him a quick glance before answering, “Furihata looked anxious to see me at first. It might have been too much to introduce me as the new king.” We heard glass shatter before looking at the source. Furihata was standing in the room with his hands over his mouth. He started babbling out apologies before he started to hyperventilate. Before I knew what I was doing, I grabbed him by the arms and told him to tell me five things he could see, four things he could hear, and three things he could feel. I’m not sure if I did it right but it seemed to be working since Furihata had calmed down. He looked at me with wide eyes and said that he was grateful since that was the first time he ever calmed down that fast. He then apologized for not treating me like royalty which was complete horseshit since he acted fine and I told him so with great vehemence. Kagetora-san came back after cleaning up the mess and cleared his throat. Furihata then noticed I was still holding him and he gently pulled his arms back while looking flustered. I wanted to ruffle his hair so bad but it might undo all the progress I made with him.
“His majesty wanted to make a more informal crown, so I brought him to you since you are the best jeweler around.” Furihata flushed at the compliment and stammered out a thanks. Kagetora-san pulled out the crown for reference and Furi took a good look at it before raising his eyes that were now filled with determination. “I will make you a beautiful crown, your majesty. Leave it to me. It should be ready in four days.” I nodded at his response and reminded him not to work himself too hard, which surprised him a bit before he grinned brightly and asked us to visit anytime.
Kagetora-san and I left afterwards and I was about to start walking before Kagetora-san grabbed my arm. He looked at me with a whole bunch fatherly pride which lightened my heart. He again stated that I was a good leader and that I deserved better. My throat started hurting and I wanted to let out a sob. It’s been forever since someone had said that to me. I swallowed it down though and said thanks instead. We heard a sound coming from behind us and suddenly, two girls tumbled to our feet. They looked badly hurt and I picked up the little one gently while Kagetora-san picked up the bigger one. Her hood fell off and I gasped when I saw the shock of pink hair. Momoi was in Kagetora-san’s arms and was badly bleeding. I shook myself out of it and Kagetora-san and I ran back to the castle. A sense of dread came upon me. I didn’t expect to meet one of the GOM so soon. But I’d be damned if I let them die under my watch.
Chapter Text
Riko and Hyuuga were the first people to see us running in. Riko called Alex over so they could clean the two girls while Hyuuga guided us to the baths so we could get cleaned up too. I hope that neither of them were hurt too bad. Kagetora-san came after I finished my bath and told me that the injuries were not serious except for a gash on Momoi’s stomach.
“Can’t healing magic fix it?” I asked curiously. Kagetora sighed, “Usually yes, but for whatever reason, it’s not working.” I hurried over to Momoi who was in the guest room. Yeesh, that looks like it hurt. A lot. Luckily, the gash, although deep, didn’t seem like it would be too hard to stitch. I grabbed a needle and a silk thread and I closed up the wound. Not my best work, but it will do the job.
“Where did you learn to do that? I’ve never seen anything like that before?” Kagetora-san asked with an amazed look on his face. I shrugged and said, “There are a lot of things you don’t know about me.” He looked surprised that I didn’t give him a proper answer but then smiled in agreement and left.
I let out a relieved sigh and took a seat near the bed. Truthfully, I panicked and blurted that out. Why the hell were stitches not a thing here?! This world seems to be a little too dependent on magic. I get that this is a fantasy but what about all the people who don’t have magic or money? What do they do in tough times?
I woke up with small hands in my hair. I didn’t even realize I fell asleep. And on the other side of the bed too! I looked up at wide green eyes. My eyes widened as well and we stared at each other before the young girl pulled her hands away and started to speak.
“I’m sorry, mister. I woke up and I saw your head near my feet. I thought your neck would hurt so I was trying to push you up.” I waved off her apology and said that it was alright since she was only trying to help. She looked a bit embarrassed and mumbled with a pout, “Well, I wanted to push you up but I had never seen hair like yours. I got curious so I started playing with it. ‘M sorry.”
How cute was that apology?! I turned my head to look at her and had to do a double take. This girl was a carbon copy of Midorima! I felt slightly nostalgic looking at her but I noticed that she seemed to be anxious at my staring, so I cleared my throat and asked for her name.
“My name is Midorima Himei. What’s your name, mister?”
“My name is Kagami Taiga. Nice to- why are you touching my eyebrows?”
Himei startled at that and then let out a small squeak. It seems that she didn’t even realize what she was doing. “Sorry again mister, I’ve never seen eyebrows like that either. They’re weird.”
I growled with mock offense before tugging her onto my lap and tickling her until she was a giggly mess.
It was then that Momoi woke up. She looked across the room until her eyes narrowed at me. She looked pissed. I looked at her confused at her reaction before realizing how bad this seems.
“I’m not a threat. I was only tickling her as punishment since insulted my eyebrows.”
“But your eyebrows are stupid looking”
“Alright, you brat. You’re asking for this. Tickle attackkkkk!”
Himei started laughing like crazy again but she surprised me by giving me a hug afterwards. I looked over at Momoi who seemed equally shocked before her gaze softened. Then it sparkled with recognition.
“Wait, I remember you! You were that tall guy with weird eyebrows and average grades, right? Your brother, Himuro Tatsuya I think was his name, was the heartthrob of the school.” Damn. I guess it’s nice that she doesn’t know much about me, but tall guy and average grades? Really?
Himuro came into the room then as if he was summoned by the mention of his fame. Momoi blushed when she saw him and looked starstruck. “Wow! You’re the guy that Kise thinks is his romantic rival! You’re very pretty.” Himuro smiled at her and complimented her as well. They had a long conversation in order to catch up. I wasn’t that interested in that since Himei was giving me the cutest smile while playing with my hands.
Kagetora-san walked in and said, “Your majesty, I came to inform you that there were quite a few buyers from the nobility who wished to torture the statue. I told them the price was 50 pieces of gold for one hour. Was that alright?” I nodded at him and asked if he told them that the torture weapons are an additional 10 pieces. He smiled mischievously and said that he made it 15 before leaving quickly. I shook my head before shrugging. Demons, am I right
Himuro then said, “In case you didn’t know before, and knowing Taiga he probably forgot to mention it, but he is the new demon king.” I groaned and told Momoi to stop trying to curtsy. Her stomach’s not in the best shape. Himei took the news in and simply asked, “If you’re the king, does that mean I can’t sit in your lap anymore?” I smiled at her and told her that she could stay if she wants. She snuggled in closer with a smile. Momoi looked happy before her eyes snapped up in alarm.
“Oh no, I never contacted Midorima that his sister is safe.” He’s going to be so worried. May I have some privacy?” I nodded and told her to come downstairs for dinner after she called him.
Himei, Himuro, and I went to the kitchen. I sat Himei down at the counter before making dinner. “King Taiga, I’ve never seen a king make his own food before. Don’t you have servants? I answered that I do but I don’t trust any of them in a kitchen since they are horrible at cooking. Himei giggled and said that her brother was bad at it too. She told us how much she loved him and that he had other good points too.
Dinner was done soon, so Himuro sent Himei to go get Momoi and any others she saw along the way. She saluted him and stomped up hurriedly since she was so hungry. “You know, I think she was trying to talk up her brother.” I looked at him askance and whispered, “Why would she need to do that?” He looked at me like it was obvious but then said, “Shoot, sorry. I forgot that you and I have very different experiences. You see, sometimes a girl would talk up her friend to me, so I would be more interested in her friend.” My eyes widened and I asked, “Does it work?” He laughed and said that it helped if he was interested before with a knowing glance in my direction and a pat on my shoulder before he left to set up the table.
I was shocked and I could feel my face start to burn up and my heart beat faster. Truthfully, I deeply admired the GOM and then those feelings developed into a kind of crush in my past world. I thought I had gotten over it at the age of 23 but apparently not, if just the mention of one of them got this type of reaction. There were only a few people who knew about it-Alex, Himuro, and my sister Tora. I groaned as I came to a realization. My sister is totally the type of person who would use the villain’s feelings towards the heroes as a plot twist in her storyline.
I shook myself out of my stupor when I heard footsteps. No lovesick teenage boy here, only a ruler who is trying his best. The GOM should be the last thing in my mind. Or, at least they should be, if Momoi hadn’t just dropped the bomb that all the other members would be arriving at the castle in two days to take back Himei and her. Why me?!
Notes:
Not Himei trying to set up her brother🤭 Thank you all for your comments and kudos. The rest of the GOM are coming soon.
Chapter Text
I was in a bit of a daze when I got to the table, but luckily Riko was looking out for me and smacked me into the soup. Honestly, sometimes these people make it so hard for me to be king. I don’t know what I would do without them though. Himei giggled so hard at my soaked appearance that water spurted out of her nose. Momoi wiped her face and stealthily tried to put more peas on Himei’s dinner. She was found out on the spot.
“I don’t want to eat veggies!” Himei said with a pout. She turned her gaze to me and yup, here it comes, puppy dog eyes. “Pretty please with a cherry on top?”
I groaned and told Momoi to let her enjoy her meal. Momoi shook her head exasperatedly and Kagetora-san laughed heartily.
“If I knew that was all it took to get you to listen, I would have done that ages ago.” I rolled my eyes and said, “Oh please old man, you would look like you were having a stroke instead.” Everyone started laughing while Kagetora-san grumbled.
Himuro then asked Momoi, “Hey, what’s up, why do you look so sad?” Everyone stopped to hear her response. “Well, it’s just that, the GOM used to have dinner like this when we were younger and now we seem so distant.” Everyone seemed shocked but I knew better. Momoi may look all fun and happy but she also had the same dark past as the rest of the GOM. I reached my arm across the table to hold her hand in what I hoped was a comforting gesture. She smiled at me and said that she couldn’t wait for all of us to meet her dear friends. I was worried but I put on an excited expression as well. I ignored the sympathetic gazes from Alex and Himuro.
Just like that, two days had passed and it was time to see the rest of the GOM. My worry didn’t lessen at all during that time and as I stood there with Momoi, Himei, Riko, and Himuro by my side, my stomach felt like it was doing somersaults. Himei and Riko perked up and ran towards the people who had just entered the castle. Riko went to Hyuuga and Kiyoshi and hugged them hard while Himei was picked up by her brother. Midorima looked as elegant as always and my heart pattered at the sight of him in that suit. Himuro snickered at me and I glared at him before gasping since Midorima had just fallen to his knees. I ran to him in a worry since it seemed like it hurt.
“Are you alright? Did you trip on something?” I asked him before taking his hands and pulling him up. He looked confused at my reaction and was about to speak before being interrupted by Riko’s uproarious laughter . “Oh my god, you Kagadummy, he was trying to show his respect to you since you’re the king.” I got flustered and yelled back, “ I thought you were only supposed to bow or curtsy!”Himei burst into laughter to the point where she looked like she was about to fall over. I picked her up gently.
“I thought that the rest would be coming too.” Momoi said with an arched eyebrow. “I’m right behind you, Momoi.” I screamed at that and turned around to see my favorite phantom Kuroko in a lovely outfit as well. He then said that the rest of the GOM would come to my coronation in two weeks. I let out a surprised snort and his eyes looked at me blankly before his eyes widened with recognition. Momoi seemed to latch onto that and said, “You remember too right, Tetsu? We went to the same school.” Kuroko then said that he had no idea I was royalty since I was in the commoner classes. I laughed at that and said that I had no idea either.
Midorima gently tugged on my arm and I gave Himei to him. He cradled her with so much affection that my eyes started tearing up involuntarily. Kuroko sneaked up behind me and put a handkerchief in my pocket. I guess he thought I wouldn’t notice but his hand felt too searing to ignore. I used it anyways with a grateful smile in his direction. His face seemed to erupt in a bright pink blush which Himei giggled at saying that it matched Momoi’s hair.
I patted her hair fondly but it seemed that Midorima had the same idea. His hands were on top of mine. How could I have forgotten how big they were?! They completely dwarfed mine although mine was more veiny. He pulled his hand back like it burnt and walked briskly away towards the door. Kuroko sighed and followed him. Momoi was the only one who said goodbye and thank you. Really, how bad could their manners be?
Riko seemed to agree since I could see smoke coming out of her ears and her face turn red from anger. “Who the hell do they think they are treating us like that?! Let them come back and I’m going to use my moves on them! Their arrogant asses won’t know what’s coming!” Kiyoshi and Hyuuga were having trouble calming her down and I looked at Himuro hoping he might be able to help.
To my surprise, Himuro seemed to also be fuming. He sounded like he was grumbling, “Who are they to even look at Taiga like that?!” Riko agreed wholeheartedly with him and they were discussing torture methods. Kiyoshi overheard and started to laugh saying that they were being too overprotective. They looked at him blankly before saying that I needed that protection since I seemed like the type to be taken advantage of. Which, rude, I guess. I suppose it was sweet that they would go to such lengths to protect me.
I started to tear up again and Riko rushed to my side saying that they would make sure that their filthy hands never come near me. I think I would be all too happy if their hands came close to me in the first place but I wasn’t going to tell her that. Either way, that wasn’t why I started to tear up. Kuroko said something about a coronation in two weeks. Isn’t that too soon?! Also wasn’t I supposed to have a procession only?! What’s going on?

Thank you for your comments and kudos. I really love them all. It motivates me so much. I finally thought of a name for this chapter. Not the best, but it will do
Chapter Text
I stomped over and opened the doors to the study harshly. Kagetora-san jumped slightly, but when he noticed it was me, he just raised his eyebrow. “What the hell, Kagetora-san?! How come I am just hearing about my coronation that is apparently in two weeks?!” He looked a little sheepish as he rubbed his head and replied that he was going to tell me soon but he knew that I would refuse because of our finances. That’s a very valid reason though to not have a coronation in my opinion. Everyone else knew about but me and Himuro. He also looked a bit hurt at not being in the loop, but he sucks at keeping secrets from me, so it’s probably for the best.
For the next two weeks, the castle was being prepped and furnished for the coronation. It looked hauntingly beautiful which I adored. Luckily for us, my father made a lot of enemies in the past so our little Kick-the-Buddy torture system was a big hit and our financial crisis was averted enough to be able to cover the expenses.
Since everyone was busy, I went to Furi’s shop to go see the progress on the crown. At least that’s my excuse. Only Kagetora-san and I know that the crown is already finished but I wanted a little bit of freedom from kingly duties before my coronation. Furi and I grew very close and I would have offered him a spot as a royal advisor if I hadn’t seen how happy he is with his jewels. I’m sure the crown is very beautiful. He said he put a lot of thought into it being perfect for me.
However, he does tend to overwork himself, so today I dragged him with me to find a suit for the coronation. Ever since I had come to this world, I’ve only been wearing worn and wrinkled suits. I have to make a good first impression on all my people so I must buy a new suit. Furi has a better eye for this stuff so I let him talk to our dressmaker, Mrs. Hillary. A rather sweet if not stern old lady. She was slightly worried when we first met but she took a shine on me soon enough. Good thing too, I don’t know how to even tie a tie so I need all the help I can get. I wanted to see the suit they picked for me but Furi and her wanted it to be a surprise for the event.
It was finally the time for the event and I was reminded of how I felt before I play a basketball game. Exhilarated with a lot of anticipation. Everyone got ready in their best clothes and they looked drop dead gorgeous. I have to stand out against that, which I was not entirely sure I can do. Himuro helped dress me up and he even put on a little bit of makeup on me. It reminded me of when we were younger and we would steal Alex’s makeup to try on each other. Fortunately, Himuro is much better at doing it now if Riko’s reaction was anything to go by.
I walked down the halls and everyone I met had the same shocked yet proud expression on their face. I felt a little more ready to do this celebration now. I had to hide behind the huge ornate doors that lead to the hall until Kagetora-san gives an introductory speeech.
“Thank you for coming all this way. We are delighted to have you here. Now, as many of you know, our soon to be king had been in a mana-induced coma for two months, courtesy of our last king, his father. However, he had recently woken up and had taken over the role of king with an unfathomable amount of strength and grace despite never having any previous experience. It is because of him that our finances have been improved. He has been an amazing asset to this kingdom and he will continue to do so. Now, without further ado, here’s to Kagami Taiga, our new demon king!”
I walked out into the room and down the stairs into the room. I waved to everyone and smiled brightly when everyone started clapping and cheering. Kagetora-san then told everyone that it has been a long time since they had a capable ruler and that my Procession precedes all else. Everyone mad way for us as we left the castle. I got into a carriage that was more of a bandwagon and waved to all the people who are under my care now. They were all throwing beautiful flowers at me and singing my praises. It felt like a dream but I knew it was a huge responsibility. Still, I couldn’t help but yell out my thanks to everyone in the kingdom for their sacrifices. Their cheers only grew louder and some people who had worried glances became more joyful.
However, winning the hearts of my subjects was not what worried me. I’m well aware that my background as a commoner definitely helped my reputation with them, but, like a double edged sword, it could be my downfall with the nobles. Luckily, I had the best etiquette teachers in Riko and Kagetora-san and I don’t want to disappoint them. I was able to have small conversations with the nobles and for demons, they are oddly considerate of the wellbeing of others. Their dislike of my father made them more open to me which is wonderful but I can’t keep relying on that. I was able to grasp the more intelligent conversations and was able to impress them with my knowledge. Then again, they probably expected less from the person who found out they were king three months ago.
Himuro and Kiyoshi had taken guard up at front and were doing their part by talking me up for the guests before letting them in. I told them that it was unnecessary but they ignored me. Not exactly surprising to say the least. I envy their social skills, especially now. I felt drained but I perked up when I heard two familiar names.
“Kise Ryouta, Momoi Satsuki, Midorima Shintarou, Midorima Himei, and Murasakibara Atsushi of Teikou kingdom!” “Oh wait, and Tetsuya Kuroko!” I snickered when I saw him sulk and Kiyoshi look a bit sheepish before apologizing to him. Himei snatched her hand from Midorima and ran to me with her a rms outstretched. I got the clue and picked her up before letting her snuggle into my chest. “I missed you, King Taiga.” “Really, how much did you miss me?” I asked playfully. She opened her tiny arms as far apart as she could and said that it was this much. I laughed at her cuteness and kissed her nose.
Momoi jumped on me and yelled, “Kagamin, I missed you so much! You look stunning!” I thanked her with a side hug since my other arm was occupied by Himei. She looked behind her with a mischievous glance and said, “Don’t you think so?” I looked over at them to see their reactions and I was pleasantly surprised. Midorima looked away after a simple nod while Kuroko stared into my soul with a small smile. What really shocked me was Kise blushing and stuttering like a schoolgirl and Murasakibara looking at me while licking his lips. I’m never going to admit what that did to me. Not like I had to, with how fast Momoi noticed my blush. I cleared my throat and asked Momoi where the rest of the GOM are. She sighed and said that they send their apologies but they were too busy to make it. I shrugged and said that it was fine.
Out of nowhere, a knife shot through. I was able to catch it but it was clear that it was supposed to stab me. Really?! An assassination attempt?! At 9 in the morning! Give me a break. It wasn’t until I heard Kise laughing that I realized I had said that out loud. It was a pure, genuine laugh, one that I hadn’t heard in a long time. It made me smile and Kise started turning pink at the attention.
Kiyoshi brought the assassin in and what do you know? It was Hanamiya. Ugh. He was about to speak, probably to have an evil monologue, but I just smacked his face. Everyone gasped and he looked shocked. “What did you do that for?” “Oh I don’t know, maybe because you LITERALLY JUST TRIED TO KILL ME!” He looked effectively cowed for a bit but was able to gain his composure to send me a disgusting smile. This time Kiyoshi slapped him. I sighed at the interruption and told Kiyoshi to send him to the torture chamber. I’ll deal with him after the festivities.
At least one good thing about the attempt was that it showed everyone that the demon monarch was not to be messed with. A little bit of fear and awe entered everyone’s eyes, including the GOM. The awe seemed to overwhelm them as they scrambled to praise me for my swift actions. It was nice to have their support.
It was time for the crowning part of the ceremony, and the crown looked simple yet elegant. I was really impressed and pleased by Furi’s handiwork. I made an internal reminder to myself to visit him soon to thank him. The ceremony went on for ages and I honestly checked out. Luckily, Kagetora-san held a mock ceremony before the coronation for me to practice so I was going through the motions. I was officially the new king now. Everyone bowed deeply, some even getting on their knees. It was clear that I had their respect. I gently nodded my head at the crowd in a gesture of gratitude and smiled. I won’t let these people down.

Chapter Text
After the coronation party and ceremony had ended, I went to my throne and let out a big sigh. Kagetora-san took pity on me and allowed me some time before I got up to head to the dungeons. I stood up while cracking my knuckles and I stomped to the cell where my uninvited guest was residing.
“Took you long enough,” Hanamiya said with a bored glance. I responded with a resigned look of my own. “What do you have to say for yourself?” I calmly asked with a thin veil of unbridled rage. He answered by saying that he saw absolutely no wrong with what he did and that my anger with his attempted attack did not phase him. I laughed because my god, how could someone be so full of themselves?!. He started to look annoyed at my laughter so I took pity on him and gave him my reasons.
“You misunderstand me. I’m not angry at you for trying to kill me. To be honest, I’m incredibly insulted that they sent someone like you to finish the job. I mean, come on, I know I used to be a peasant and all, but your master is really stupid if he thinks a waif of a person in dire need of a haircut could assassinate me.” Yeah, so maybe I didn’t take much pity on him. Hyuuga and Kiyoshi started snickering from their guard posts while Hanamiya turned red from anger.
“How dare you?! You think that just because you are the new king and all, you can disregard the intelligence of the elves.” He suddenly gasped and his hands went to cover his mouth in shock. It was clear that he had said something he shouldn’t have. My eyes narrowed in glee and I questioned him about the situation rapid fire to the point where he had no chance to use his sly tongue to make up lies. Not that he would, because it was clear that he did not want to be tortured. A coward in both worlds.
I was confused by what he was saying though. “What war with the elves?” He looked surprised and told me that the elves had sent him to kill me in order to stop us from declaring war on them. Apparently, so that we could become the most successful at trade, or something.
I sighed and rubbed my head that suddenly started pounding. “Wait, let me get this straight, I could have died today because the ELVES DIDN’T DO A BACKGROUND CHECK ON THE KINGDOM! I imbued my words with a bit of demonic energy so Hanamiya knew how pissed I was. My most recent lesson from Kagetora-san and my favorite so far. Riko jokingly said that my face looks scary enough without the voice so that’s probably why it was so easy for me.
He quickly composed himself and muttered that it was astonishing how no one thought I could have been anything other than a demon. I shrugged and told him that I must go back and discuss what should be done and that his behavior would be key to his survival.
My headache grew larger and I felt my bones start to ache. Today had been a long day and I was exhausted to the tip of my toes. I decided that it would be best to save the meeting for tomorrow and to rest instead.
The next day, I called my trusted friends to talk about the situation. It was an uninanimous decision that I would have to go to elven territory in order to solve this and that Hyuuga, Himuro, and Kiyoshi would come as guards. Hanamiya will have to be our guide since none of us knew how to get there.
Hanamiya was not very happy with this though I wasn’t sure why. I mean, we are letting him go to his home alive and well, so it seemed weird that he grew more and more nervous when we got closer. I figured it out soon enough when we got there.
“HANAMIYA! What were you thinking?!” It was Nijimura, the elven chief. I never met the dude before in my past life but Kuroko told me he was chill which will hopefully go in my favor. As I was contemplating him, Hanamiya tried to escape. He didn’t get very far. Nijimura literally grabbed him by the neck.
“I told you not to make such reckless decisions without my consent!” Nijimura said with an angry yet concerned face. Hanamiya looked embarrassed about being scolded and walked away in a huff. Nijimura sighed heavily and finally set his sights on us. We bowed before him, not wanting to get off to a bad start.
“My, I suppose the rumors are true. You are quite different from your father.” He said consideringly while stroking his chin. Although he was two or three years older than me, he seemed to be much older. I nodded at his observation and said that I plan to be a better rule too. He laughed and said that it would not be a hard thing to do.
“Nijimura, I have personally come to tell you that I have no intention of going to war with you. Neither of us are in any shape to consider it.” He took in my words for a brief moment before the tension left his body. “That is good since we elves are a normally peaceful group. Nonetheless, we were willing to fight for our livelihood.” I smiled at him and said that I expected nothing else from such a great ruler. He shrugged modestly and brought us to an office.
“I can see that you are sincere yet I feel that there is something more you
want. Don’t beat around the bush.” I was shocked but then I cleared my throat, pleased at the bluntness. “Lord Nijimura, I had to come here to show my sincerity for the misunderstandings. It was my fault that I let this issue go unresolved for so long. It is no excuse for my actions but I hope that as a ruler yourself, you would understand that my duty is to my people firstm. Forgive me.” He waved his hand and wryly said that he let Hanamiya loose on me, so we’re even. I smiled and started out a bit more hesitantly with my next statement. “Nijimura-san, I would also like to make a proposition. Since we are both in the business of trade, I was hoping that we could become business partners. Of course, if you decide not to, that would not change my previous point on the war. It’s never going to happen.”
His eyes warmed but I could tell that the hurt done my father is keeping him from accepting my deal. Which is a fair reaction. He looked at me after some thought and asked if I could give him more time. I said that it would be nice if he could give me an answer in about a week or so to which he readily agreed. It was getting late so we all had a really quick dinner. It was extraordinarily bland. At least, I now know one thing I can trade with the elves. Spices.
Nijimura took us to our rooms after dinner and left us alone to get ready for bed. It was kind of funny to see how Kiyoshi and Hyuuga started blushing when they realized they would have to share a room. I shared a quick grin with Nijimura-san. He suddenly seemed like he remembered something and told us that he is expecting a visitor tomorrow. He offered to tell them that he is unable to receive them but he looked so regretful that I dismissed his offer with a small smile. We might leave early anyways so it didn’t really matter.
We did wake up early but it was in vain. Kiyoshi, Hyuuga, and I went down groggily to the dining room after packing our clothes. I rubbed my eyes as I reached the table and I had to rub them again when I saw the person sitting at the table. Or maybe he was standing? I honestly couldn’t tell, he was still as tiny as always. I didn’t realize I said that out loud until his eyes narrowed dangerously. Akashi Seijurou was staring up at me and saying, “How dare you speak to me like this?!” Oh shit, of course the one GOM I managed to piss off in less than ten seconds of meeting him would be Mr. Absolute himself. Why does this happen to me?!

Chapter Text
Akashi was still glancing up at me and I could hear the furious gasp he was trying to hold back. He looked he wanted to reenact our meeting in the other world.
I wanted to retort back but I suddenly remembered where we are and by no means am I dragging Nijimura into this when he’s been such a nice host. Plus, it was kind of my fault Akashi was angry in the first place.
Letting out an exasperated sigh, I looked down at Akashi and noticed how close he is. This realization seemed to have punctured his anger as his eyes widened and he scurried back in shock. I had a slight urge to ruffle his hair, but he was closer to the knives now, so I can’t risk it.
The only reason I have for my disaster of an apology is because of how flustered I was at seeing him here. “Hey, so um, sorry about calling you tiny and all but you know tiny things are usually considered cute, right?” Oh lord, where was I going with this?! What the hell is my mouth trying to say. I can tell that I messed up and the gasps let out by Kiyoshi and Hyuuga just confirmed it. I decided to try and salvage my apology by saying, “that still doesn’t make what I said right, so sorry your highness.” There, that should make it better, right?!
Out of all the responses to that, I didn’t expect a blush to erupt on Akashi’s face. He kinda looked like a codfish with the way he was gaping. He seemed like he wanted to say something before shaking himself out of his trance. He looked directly at me and I noticed with a bit of relief that his eyes were how they were before the incident.
“Very well then, I accept your apology, no matter how ill thought out it was.” He then looked at me at confusion before a spark of recognition entered his eyes. “Are you perhaps the new demon king of Seirin?” I nodded yes and I visibly saw him pale then grit his teeth before giving me a quick small bow. I’m aware what a blow that must have been to his pride, so I took pity on him and changed the subject.
“How did you know it was me? As far I recall, this is the first time we’ve ever met.” He cleared his throat and answered with a slight blush, “Kise told me you have a striking presence while giggling like a maniac, Midorima spoke once about how grateful he was for what you have done for his sister, Kuroko stared into the distance with a blank expression as usual but his eyes softened at the mention at you, and Momoi keeps commenting on how happy the kingdom has been under your reign and that it motivated her.”
I felt my heart grow lighter with every person’s opinion on me until I realized that Akashi had not mentioned what Murasakibara thought of me. At first I thought he might have forgotten but one look at his face dispelled that thought. Akashi had on his poker face, the one he has when he’s hiding something. I was curious so I asked in a hopefully encouraging manner, “and Murasakibara, what did he think of me?” Akashi looked up to the heavens, well technically the ceiling, with an exasperated look before he sighed and said with a slight stutter, “H-He said that you looked t-tasty.”
I was stunned speechless by that but clearly the sentiment was not shared by the two guards behind me since I heard twin yells of “WHAT!” before I glared at them to stay quiet. They ignored me though, typical, as they turned to each other and started speaking rapidly. I only heard snippets of their conversation but I could clearly hear, “We’ve got to tell Riko about this” and “Himuro is not going to be happy.” I was pleased that they were going to tell them since Riko and her father would love to know that I gave off such a good impression. Their classes have definitely payed off. I don’t know why they would Himuro would be unhappy about this.In fact, he will probably be super supportive instead.
I stopped eavesdropping on their whirlwind of a conversation when I heard Nijimura come down with a yawn. He looked like he wanted to walk right back up when he saw all of us together. He seemed to have stomped on the urge though as he had let out an exasperated sigh and pointed at us, “You all have been playing nice, right?” before grabbing a beer in the other hand. I know Nijimura was supposed to be some mature dude and all, but he seemed to have a 50 year old soul in his 25 year old body. Beer in the morning sounds nice though. Himuro would kill me if he knew I was even thinking about drinking this early so scratch that, I guess.
Akashi snapped his fingers to get our attention before saying that we should have our breakfast now as we have wasted too much time and he is a busy man. I apparently still don’t have a brain to mouth filter, so I said, “ Murasakibara seemed to think I was good enough for breakfast.” I don’t think I have ever seen Akashi that shade of red before. Hyuuga started laughing like a hyena.
Nijimura just spat out his drink out of his nostril and yeesh, that’s got to hurt. And it was beer too, so double the pain. “What the hell was going on when I was sleeping?!” I felt energy filling me up at that. Yeah, that’s a new perk for awakening my demonic powers, someone saying what the hell rejuvenates me like a day at the spa. It was clear that my demonic energy was becoming noticeable as Nijimura clamped up and a spark of fear entered his eyes. I calmed it down though. No need for the person who is showing us such hospitality to see us a threat and all. It wouldn’t be a good guest thing to do. That and his palace had too many damn doors to know what could be a good exit plan.
At that, Kiyoshi and Hyuuga got up saying that they had finished and that we should be going. I went to go shake Nijimura’s hand but was pleasantly surprised when he hugged me instead. I gave as good as I got though. I waved to Akashi before saying that I hope I’ve made a good impression. He laughed silently before saying “You have certainly made an impression, alright.” I looked at him fondly before ruffling his hair and running off with Kiyoshi and Hyuuga on our horses. He seemed shocked then angry before looking at me with an unreadable expression when I laughed back that I’ll take that as a compliment. I could overhear Nijimura saying to Akashi, “Seriously, you’ve got to tell me what the hell happened between you two?!” I felt energized again by that and we galloped away to our next destination; home.
After all, the next phase of my plan has to be set in motion. Basketball is a must for me to be completely satisfied and if events in the storyline do unfold into the ultimate doom path, I would like to play a basketball match instead of duel and potentially lose my life. That’s a new development too, I can see some different futures. It seems like a bit of clairvoyance has been sprinkled into my demonic abilities. Damn, no wonder so many people wanted to sell their souls for a contract. We’re kind of awesome if I do say so myself. Either way, I need to go back to the castle to go and regroup before setting off to the best craftsmen out there: the dwarves. And we definitely need a game plan to win the favor of such grouchy men.
Notes:
Hey guys, I’m so sorry about going off the grid on this. The fic completely slipped my mind since I had finals to study for. I will definitely make up for the loss of time with more chapters. Until then, I hope this is good.
Ft. Akashi trying to appear scary but failing, Nijimura being an old confused sleepyhead, Hyuuga and Kiyoshi wishing they had popcorn, and me giving Kagami random powers because he deserves it (and it solves plot loopholes but that’s not important)

Chapter Text
When Hyuuga, Kiyoshi, and I came back to the castle, there were villagers who had come out of their homes to cheer at our return with relief in their eyes and some even fell to their knees and pleaded with us between sobsMy eyes widened as I had no idea that we would receive such a welcome since we left only three days ago. I looked towards Hyuuga and Kiyoshi who glanced back at me with furrowed brows full of confusion. Dread filled me up and I urged my horse to go faster. I hoped with all my heart that the people in the castle were unharmed.
Riko came out and gave a tight hug around the necks of both Hyuuga and Kiyoshi and they both seemed incredibly relieved to be back in her presence. They were caught up in their own bubble and I felt slightly envious. I wondered if I would ever have the chance to be so in love. My head wandered to the GOM for an instant but I shook my head with a sad sigh. Why must my heart keep longing for this even though it’s unrequited love?!
Of course, I was fully knocked out of the trance by Alex jumping on me. I was able to stop us both from falling with my quick reflexes, although they were a little rusty. I mourned how I could exercise them by playing basketball and was even more resolved to win the dwarves over.
However, I had more pressing concerns now. With that. I ran my hands over both Himuro and Alex’s faces with almost crazed concern. “What happened?! Are you guys alright?” I shouted as I continued to look over them. They both looked at each other in concern before grabbing my hands to stop my search. Himuro slowly spoke, like the way you would a frightened animal, “Nothing’s the matter here, Taiga. Everyone’s alright.”
I checked again to see if I was right before taking a deep breath and sliding my hand down my face. “Then why were the villagers sobbing like thot?! How could I have not thought something was the matter.”
Himuro and Riko glanced at each other before chuckling. Riko came to my side and reached up to put a hand on my shoulder. “Your majesty, I think you have forgotten that you are the ruler of this domain. It makes sense that they would be exceedingly happy to the point of tears at your return.” I looked to her with a shaky sigh and said that some got on their knees and pleaded with u. Of course, with all the commotion, none of us could hear exactly what was being said, but the anguish in their eyes spoke volumes.
Riko’s mischievous smile became more soft and genuine and she gave me a big hug. “You truly are a good king if the sight of a few people in pain causes you to be this upset. However, I could probably shed light on the matter. Literally the day before you left, there was an assassination attempt on your life. Did it really not cross any of your minds how worried everyone would be about safety after that?” I looked over at Hyuuga and Kiyoshi who had sheepish expressions that I am sure were mirrored in my own. Riko looked between the three of us and sighed exasperatedly, “Idiots, the lot of you.”
Kagetora-San came out at this time and he briefly pulled Hyuuga and Kiyoshi in a hug before coming to me and bowing. I still feel awkward when anyone tries to bow to me so I quickly pulled him up and gave him a hearty hug. I noticed the worry and concern in his eyes disappear at my actions and I came to the realization that he had to go through this with my father every time he left while being ignored. This is the first time in a long time that he is being acknowledged. I then looked at Riko and his dark circles and my heart broke a little. It’s clear what a toll our absence took a toll on them. Although I know the reasons for my trips are necessary, the thought of leaving frequently like my father left a bad taste in my mouth. I decided right then and there that instead of meeting the dwarves right away, I would stay in the kingdom for some time before leaving. I looked at all of them and saw that they understood my silent declaration. I truly lucked out having the Seirin team by my side.

Hi guys, I’m so sorry about the late posting of this chapter, but honestly I’ve been going through a writer’s block. School work just dampens my creative side.
I’m sorry to say this but this story will be on a hiatus for a time. I promise I will come back but I do not know when. I’m so sorry

Chapter Text
So, it has been some time and I had taken the opportunity to grow closer with all the servants in my household as well as with all the villagers. Fortunately, the mines and our spice trade with the elves have brought our revenue up to a stable amount so we are out of the red zone. Which, for demons, you would think being in the red is good but nope. Get it, red, demons, alright I’ll stop now, I sound like Izuki. Anyways, since the crisis was averted, I have decided to fully focus on introducing basketball to this world.
I need the help of the dwarves for that so I set off for another trip away from the kingdom I grew so fond of with the same people as before(Hyuuga, Kiyoshi, and Himuro). The villagers wished us well as we pass through the streets and cross the arch that separates us from the humans.
The dwarves are in the opposite direction of the elves but the journey does not take too long and soon enough, we see little hovels, remarkably built. I grin. Yup, this is exactly what I needed.
I wait on the hill as I send Himuro, my short but beautiful brother, to woo the grumpy dwarves and let them know that we are here. Really pays to bring him on these journeys and that’s excluding his magical abilities. I felt a soft glow of pride for my big brother as I watch him sweetly sucker up to the dwarves.
The dwarves look up and it is clear that they are not exactly the fondest of our size. And the fact that we are demons. Still can’t believe Kiyoshi is a demon but I guess that’s just the role my sister put for him. I’m glad he’s here though, if only for the fact that Hyuuga and Riko are relatively calmer when he is around. Oh, who am I kidding! They’re feral no matter who they are with, it’s a miracle that Kiyoshi can manage them.
As I am lost in thought about the mess of that relationship, I do not realize there is a man next to me until a familiar toned, bronze arm wraps itself around my shoulders. I freeze as I realize that I have met my rival in this world. I chance a glance at him and have to stop my mouth from watering. How does one look like this?! Lucky bastard! The rest of the GOM looked elegant in their fantasy clothes, well, except for Murasakibara, because when is he ever elegant?! But no, Aomine just has to do his own thing and look rugged instead.
I scoff in annoyance and wrestle his arm off my shoulders, to which I am rewarded a smirk. He leans closer to me and murmurs in my ear. “What’s a demon like you doing here?” I glare at him and wonder why I was the demon and he was not. But then I had to stifle a laugh as I realize there was a misunderstanding. “Don’t get your hopes up, I’m not a succubi.” He looks at me blankly before groaning.“Geez, can’t have any fun around here. Who are you then?”
Before I could speak, Kiyoshi speaks up with a smug smile. “This is his majesty, Kagami Taiga, the demon king.” Aomine’s eyes lazily widened before he scratched his ear like he couldn’t care less. “Oh shit, really?” My brow twitched and I felt the urge to punch him but I restrained myself. The dwarf who snuck up to our group did not share the same sentiment and he delivered a crippling punch to Aomine’s stomach. Aomine crumpled and I couldn’t help myself from snickering at his demise.
The dwarf turned to greet us. “My deepest apologies for him, he was sent here by his father to learn how to stop being lazy. It seems we have a lot more to do.” Aomine groans at his words and cusses the dwarf out under his breath. I sigh before smiling at the dwarf. “It is alright, I am Kagami Taiga and you are?”
The dwarf grunted and said his name was Papa Mbaye and I had to stop myself from full-out laughing. My sister chose Big Papa to play the role of a dwarf! Oh, that is hysterical. I had my concerns about this damn game but this is definitely a highlight for me. I school my expression and continue talking to him as we walked to his workshop, mostly about my wish that the demons could have better cooling systems and transportations, especially for the elderly since they are unable to fly long distances.
I then get to the crux of the issue and explain to him the game of basketball in very simple terms, trying not to be too modern with my definition. Aomine, from behind us, sends me a curious look and says something that both excited and surprised me.
“Oh, that game? It’s already been established, you’re not introducing shit.” He says it in his usual rude way which irked me but I was so happy at the thought of basketball that I decided not to care. I was also shocked that the barrier between humans and demons was so strong that us demons had no idea that basketball already existed here. But, no matter, I think as I let a grin grow on my face. What matters is that I can cure my basketball withdrawal. I ask the dwarf where the court is and he said the only one is in the capital, where most of the nobles are, including the GOM.
I look towards Hyuuga, Kiyoshi, and Himuro and see curiosity in their eyes. I nod as I come to a decision. “Thank you for telling us this. Please consider helping us with our transportation and cooling system projects. Anything will be appreciated.” I then turn to the rest of them and tell them that we should leave now. The dwarves may have let us in temporarily but they are not keen on us staying any longer. We get ready to leave and I notice a strange look on Aomine’s face. It seemed almost…wistful? It went away quickly and with a grunt, he trudged further into the village. I shook my head and tell Papa that he has his work cut out for him. He shakes his head ruefully and tells me he is well aware. We say our farewells and soon enough, we are back on the way home.
On the journey back, I had one thing on my mind. Find some time on my schedule to visit the capital and play some b-ball.
Notes:
I’m back! Sorry for the long wait but here’s the next chapter
Ft. Papa as a dwarf, Kagami not knowing shit about the outside world, and him commenting on the cute mess that is Hyuuga, Kiyoshi, and Riko. Oh, and Aomine the goat
PS, I was thinking about explaining succubi but I decide not to since it’s not needed for this audience. I know what you read
Chapter 13: No, don’t go bald, you’re so sexy aha

Chapter Text
I had no idea how long it would take from the dwarf village to that damn Capitol. I would not wish that on my worst enemy. The journey was especially brutal because I was forced to third wheel Kiyoshi and Hyuuga who acted like an old married couple the entire time. It was taxing to say the least but I grinned deviously as I set foot on the courtyard which was conveniently already transformed into a court.
My brow furrowed as I kept a sharp watch on the court, thinking I was alone before my eyes caught on a hint of light blue hair. I sighed before speaking. “Kuroko, get your ass out here.” He furtively poked his head out of a bush and walked out. He bowed and pretended that nothing was out of the ordinary, like it was completely normal to be watching someone from the shadows. Well, it’s not like I can blame him since it is his specialty, one that I am unfortunately used to at this point. My brain reminds me that I am a hypocrite for saying unfortunately like the sight of him doesn’t fill me with so much fondness.
I was about to say something before I heard a familiar voice whining about his hair being smushed. I look over my shoulder to see Aomine leaning with his elbow on Kise’s hair while Kise is crouching horribly. I wince at the sight of poor Kise having to deal with being so near that Aho’s stinky armpits. Hyuuga and Kiyoshi looked at each other and sighed, clearly not as enthusiastic to see them as I was.
Akashi then popped up and threatened to make Aomine bald if he kept bothering Kise and I lamented that thought. I personally liked Aomine’s hair though I would never tell him since I did not want to feed his big ego. This led me to imagine what all the GOM members would look like bald… no, just no. I prayed to whatever gods are in this universe that none of them will get a receding hairline.
Midorima and Murasakibara also pulled up, arguing about the most inane things. For two people with such different personalities, they sure do stay in each other’s company a lot. Now, it seemed I was facing the whole crew except Momoi. This would have frightened me if not for the fact that I imagined them all bald just a few moments ago.
Well, perfect. I licked my lips as a devilish smile played on my face. I did not notice that the majority of them took a sneaky glance at my now wet lips as I did so. My voice boomed as I taunted them, forgetting that they all came from high stations for a moment. I know for a fact that Hyuuga will have my head for what I am about to suggest but I could care less. “Care for a game?”
Notes:
Thank you all for your patience and love during the hiatus. I enjoy it immensely and have decided to continue this a little longer since I am almost finished.

Chapter Text
The GOM looked at each other, their jaws dropped at my sudden declaration. I could see Hyuuga’s vein about to pop out of his neck out of my peripheral vision which…yikes, maybe he should get that checked out.
Kise laughed nervously as he took it upon himself as the most extroverted person in the group to explain the situation. “Haha… wow, your highness, that was a good one. We don’t really…play together anymore.” I quirked an eyebrow at the response and crossed my arms in front of my chest. “Do I look like I’m joking?” I say with a slight smirk, which definitely made them a bit defensive.
The GOM then looked at each other, pondering whether they should refuse my request. Akashi then took the reins as ringleader. He glared at me with his absolute eyes as he spoke. “We never lose, your majesty. And you are clearly outnumbered…perhaps you can play with a few of us on your team. How does that sound?” He said with a slight smirk, clearly underestimating my ability.
I sigh before agreeing. “Fine, but I want Kuroko with me.” That definitely surprised them and I could see the slight glimmer of excitement in Kuroko’s eyes from being chosen, which made me remember the time when he was my shadow. At that time, he picked me. I was more than happy to return that joy to him during our game. I smiled and gestured for him to come over to me, ruffling his hair in my signature claw grip that I always do, which he tolerated.
Akashi cleared his throat as the shock of the moment dissipated. “Taiga, you may choose who you want to go against.” My eyes widen at the surprising amount of control I was being given before realizing that my challenge felt like nothing but a pebble to them. My eyes narrowed at the thought and I desperately wanted to win so their haughtiness could not continue. I chose Midorima to join my team while Akashi, Aomine, and Kise were part of the other team. Murasakibara was too lazy and wanted to snack instead so he simply watched on the sidelines. Whatever, I will simply play so good that he will want to join the fun.
The moment we stepped on the court, it was like the wires went taut and tension started to fall over us. Both teams ready to win, eager for the point. I smiled in a bit of a frenzy as Aomine and I went in the center where Kiyoshi was going to toss the ball. The ball went up in the air and we both soared.
~Kise~
Well, nobody thought that Kagamicchi would request a game with the GOM like this. It was a brave if not stupid move. I could almost applaud his confidence if I didn’t think it was unnecessary. I would have thought it to be too much until I saw Kagami get the ball in the toss up. It was hilarious seeing Aomine so flabbergasted but it did not compare to how l felt seeing Kagami best him so easily with his jump. He soared so prettily… almost like an angel…wait, what?! That was stupid to think, Kiss, get ahold of yourself. Sure, maybe he’s an incredibly handsome demon king, but that is no excuse to getting lost in the game. Focus so you can figure out his moves and copy him! Do not think about his perfectly sculpted muscles!
~Kuroko~
Well, Kagami-kun is certainly a brazen guy. Challenging the GOM like this is not an easy feat and getting us to play basketball is even more difficult. Trust me, I would know considering it has been a goal in my mind to play again with my friends. It was one that I was close to forgoing until I saw Kagami-kun’s bright smile beckon me to his team. I felt honored to be picked by such a shining person. Yes, he is the light I needed. I felt drawn to him and was under the overwhelming urge to stick to him and be a good partner for him. Perhaps not only in the game… but in life as well.
~Midorima~
I thought nothing of Kagami rather than a deep gratitude for rescuing my sister. Of course, he is objectively attractive and perhaps I could admit he was even more so in my eyes when I saw how he handled Himei. My shy sister adored him greatly and I could see why with his gentle nature at odds with his broad physique… of course, I admit this in an objective manner, my eyes did not drift down from his face at any moment, not at all... Needless to say, it would be foolish to not realize the impact his presence has. It would be even more foolish not to appreciate his use of both arms while handling the ball. I should ask him his sign to see if we are compatible after the game…in a platonic sense, of course! I should stay close to the man…for Himei’s sake!
~Murasakibara~
Seeing how everyone is playing is getting me restless. Not even my chips are satisfying me, I want to be closer to that delicious figure. I substitute myself in for Kise and find myself face to face with the delectable redhead with a weird quadrabrow. I jump to block him, almost lazily as I was a good deal taller than the man. I did not expect for Kagachin to stay in the air longer than me. No fair! It made me a little pissed off but the view from watching him from below is pretty enough to eat. I licked my lips and felt myself go into a zone like state.
~Aomine~
What a Baka. Was he not aware of us? I’m sure he was in our school, same year. Well, something like that, I’ll have to ask Satsuki later. Either way, the redhead’s putting up quite a fight. He’s scoring a lot. I decide to test him further and go into the zone. The bastard smirks like he was waiting for me to do so and goes into the zone himself, matching my moves pace for pace and egging me on. He reacts to my moves flawlessly and the court melts, leaving only us two. My perfect rival… with a caramel body like that to boot and hauntingly honeyed eyes. No wonder I mistook him for a succubus. This will be fun.
~Akashi~
How impertinent this new king is! First, he calls me tiny now he deigns to challenge us. Truly, what a demon. It does not matter that he is a stunning creature, he will be destroyed for daring to… how? I think as I am forced back by the unexpected range of his aura during his defense. What a beast?! That show of confidence had backing to it, it is unnerving to see someone other than the GOM be in the zone and utilize it so efficiently… or perhaps exhilarating is a better word. Well, no matter, I suppose I can admire the tenacity…
I would have played for all eternity with them if I could but unfortunately, the dinner bell rang which meant that they would have to leave for their respective estates. It then occurred to us that nobody was keeping score. Some of the GOM got annoyed at the oversight while I laughed sheepishly. But, at the corner of my eye, I see Kuroko with a soft smile on his face, which is his version of beaming and I knew that his goal was achieved in this realm as well. Satisfied, I turn back to Hyuuga and Kiyoshi, unaware of the fact that the lightbulb has clicked on and a fire has started to burn in the chest of every color of the rainbow. I was unaware of the longing gazes following my carriage and I was certainly unaware of their conniving minds and their future plans regarding me.

Chapter Text
If the journey to the capital from the dwarf village was horrible, the journey back to my kingdom was hellish, pun not intended but Izuki would probably write it down. At least I had my friends eagerly waiting for us at the gates as we arrived. Riko immediately went to embrace Hyuuga and Kiyoshi. It made me feel a bit bad for dragging those two everywhere with me. I was grateful to them as well for following my whims like this, no matter how impulsive they were.
Well, it was a good thing that I was planning not to leave for a long while anyways. I have been gone for so long trying to resolve any tensions that existed from my father’s time between us and the other species of this realm. It went well fortunately, thank the gods. I worried that my crude mouth may have once or twice cost us but the other leaders swept it off as a quirk of being a demon. It was a good thing I wasn’t casted as an angel by my sister. Speaking of her, I wished to see Tora again desperately.
I sighed as I did some paperwork in the office, feeling a tad homesick. Tatsuya misunderstood it as being in a state of despair over my unrequited love for the rainbow miracles. Which… is probably not completely untrue. In this realm, the GOM and I have barely had any interaction but I suppose whatever interaction we have had has been positive. Certainly more positive than in my original world. My status as king here probably helps.
Being a king… it was certainly not something I ever saw for myself. If I wasn’t going to be drafted to the NBA, I would have chosen to be a firefighter. At least I get to do a bit of that as fires do sprout up once in a while in the hot, dry climate. However, the air conditioning systems I requested from the dwarves have been applied to every house which has definitely garnered a lot of praise from the villagers as they finally have a reprieve from the never ending heat. I’m glad I’m at least doing some things right as a ruler.
I am distracted from my musings by Riko quite literally smashing the door in as she stomped over to me, her hands shaking in a frenzy as she held a newspaper to me. I peer over it and have to hold the edge of my desk tightly as I saw the picture of Tora under the headline that a ‘saintess’ has come to the capital. I do not remember a self-insert in her game plan which means… I gasped in excitement as I jumped up, the homesickness I was stewing in immediately leaving, making me feel as light as a feather.
I gleefully whooped as I practically ran down the corridors. My baby sister was here! I return back to the office, Kagetora san’s hand gripping my shoulder in an effort to steer me as he chided me slightly on my not at all kingly display. I grinned sheepishly as I realized that a demon king being excited about a saintess suddenly appearing is probably very out of pocket. But, the picture was definitely my baby sister. I hastily wrote an invitation and hand it over to Riko, knowing that she will ensure my message gets sent over. Tora will be coming soon, I cannot wait!
Notes:
Hey y’all! Next chapter is up, thank you for your continued support. And, yes, I’m aware that siblings can be prats but we would do anything for them, right?
