Work Text:
Fionna woke up in a dark place. It's dusty and dark, the only light coming from a faint crack of sunlight. She coughed in the darkness and lifted up an arm to cover her mouth.
"Fionna? Fionna!?" A voice called. It sounded like Cake, but Fionna couldn't be exactly sure.
Fionna attempted to get up until she felt a sharp pain in one of her arms. She sucked in a sharp breath. That hurt. Fionna attempted to slowly turn her head to look towards the source of her pain; her right arm.
"Fionna? It's Cake? Are you there?" Cake called again, sounding panicked.
Fionna hacked another lungful of air before hacking out a weak "I'm here."
"Fionna? Fionna where are you?" Cake yelled. Fionna has the feeling she's glancing around.
Fionna wheezed. Her arm ached and it's hard to speak from all the pain. Fionna felt the world shift a little and she let out a pained gasp.
"Fionna?" Cake yelled again.
"I'm under somewhere." Fionna wheezed out before having a coughing fit.
"Under ... under the rocks? Fionna, don't worry, I'll get you out of there!" Fionna heard Cake yell before feeling the world shift.
"Cake! Cake stop that hurts!" Fionna gasped out, her arm screaming in pain besides her. She gritted her teeth, trying her best not to scream. Tears pricked at the corner of her eyes.
"...Fionna? Are you hurt?" Another voice, most likely Simon, called out.
"I - I think so. One of my arms hurt but I can't see what's going on with it." Fionna hacked out after a moment of silence, taking small wheezing gasps between sentences.
There was a pause of silence before a couple muttered curses came from Simon. "Fionna, I'm going to need you to stay calm. Please try and keep talking while we locate where you might be."
"K - Keep talking? Alright, yeah, I think I can do that." Fionna wheezed out. "U - uh, it's really dark in here. It's also k - kind of dusty?" Fionna hacked out another couple breaths.
"Keep talking Fionna!" Simon encouraged. "I think we've almost found your location."
"S - Simon ... C - Cake ... I don't want to die." Fionna gasped out, tears flowing down her face.
"Don't worry, we've found you!" Cake said, her voice trembling a little.
Fionna felt the world shift again a little.
"Cake! Be careful, Fionna might be hurt!" Simon shouted.
Fionna felt something lift off her arm as she began to scream, because oh, that hurt.
"Fionna?!" Cake asked, quickly stretching towards her. She peered at Fionna with concern. "Hey, Simon! Do something! You were a medic, right?"
"Antiquarian." Simon corrected, hopping down to look at Fionna, who had calmed down a little and was taking small gasping breaths.
"Fionna?" Cake asked again.
"Hey Fionna, can you focus on your breathing while I take a look at your arm? Try and slow down your breathing a little." Simon said, walking over to get a closer look at Fionna's arm.
Fionna tried to nod, but it just made the pain worse, so she settled with a little 'mhm.'
A few moments passed as Simon studied her arm, broken occasionally by pained gasps and Cake's worried shuffling.
"Well, uh. Fionna, your arm. It's, uh. Broken." Simon said after a few heartbeats. Fionna can hear him nervously shuffle his feet.
"What!?" Squawked Cake.
"What?" Fionna asked.
"Uh ... but don't worry! It should be able to heal correctly; no bones seem to be out of place." Simon responded. "We should probably try and find a sling though so your bones can heal in a correct position ..."
Cake morphed herself into a sling. "Will this work?"
" ... Sure." Simon said, staring for a little before getting to work gently putting the Cake sling onto Fionna's arm. "Just try not to move your arm."
"..."
"Thanks."
"Y'know Fionna it could've been worse. You could've lost your arm like that Farmboy-"
"Be quiet Cake."
