The Adventures Of Evelynn

Summary:

Evelynn was your typical 12-year-old girl. However, Evelynn always felt like she didn't belong, not even at her own house. Well, she was very smart, she’s a 12th grader even though she was only 12 years old, but even being smart came with its downsides. Nobody in her class ever talked to her because they were jealous and annoyed that a 12-year-old could be as smart as them.
Even she has unusual features. First, she has natural bleach blonde hair which sometimes looks white in the light. Second, she has bright purple eyes and is extremely pale even though she goes in the sun all the time.
She had always thought these things had been strange. Her parents just said that her great grandfather had this condition which made him look like her, but she never believed that. Pictures of her grandfather had been so weird. He was either bald or had a hat on. And for some reason in the photos, my parents showed me you'd never see his eyes. Evelyn shrugged it off.
But she was a telepath! Nobody has powers, dead or alive. She thought it was just her imagination; until one day came that would change her life forever.

Chapter Text

“Miss Miller!” Mrs.Russell exclaimed, ripping out my earbuds. “Do you think you're too smart to pay attention?!” Mrs.Russell asked, her face turning red.
“No, ma'am,” I replied looking up at Mrs.Russell.
“Evelynn, you know that listening to music during school is strictly prohibited!” Mrs. Russell shouts as she hands my earbuds back to me. “Put that in your bag. Right now!” She pauses for a second and takes a deep breath. “If I see you with your headphones again I’ll have to confiscate them Evelynn.”
Most of my classmates were looking at me now. This was the kind of attention I tried to avoid. I pulled my hair in front of my face hoping to hide behind it, but that did not help at all. I then neatly put my iPod and earbuds into my bag then turned back to look at Mrs. Russell.

“When we get back to school you will all write an essay on why we listen to the rules.” Mrs.Russell declared grabbing her planner out of her bag and writing a reminder.
“Okay.” The other students responded with annoyance in their voices.
Why should we get punished for something that Evelynn did? Somebody thought. I tried to block out the person's thoughts, but like always I couldn't.
“I'm sorry Mrs.Russell, ” I said, fiddling with my fingers.
“I know you are Evelynn but we have to get going,” said Mrs.Russell, her tone turning softer.
She moves her eyes away from me and turns to the class “Come on everyone! Let's head to the next exhibit!” Exclaimed Mrs.Russell moving her hands to guide the students.
I waited so I’d be in the back of the class, then soon I noticed a boy staring at me. This is pretty normal when I am on field trips, his look was different. His look was more genuine. I lifted my shoulders and pointed at myself. I began to lag behind everybody. I started walking away until he put a hand on my shoulder.
“Hello?” I turned around and looked at him awkwardly.

“Hi,” he said, putting his hand out, “Are you, Evelynn Miller?” He asked confidently, brushing his bangs out of his eyes.
“Why?”
“I was just wondering, I need you for something,” his tone became darker and more serious.
“I am, but what do you need from me,”
He looked at me and started to look more annoyed. “There's something you need to know.”
“Okay but why? I don't even know your name?” I looked at the ground, he didn't respond for a while just put his hand on his temples.
“Evelynn enough with the questions just listen to me. We need to go somewhere more... Private.” he pointed over to the corner of the room where it looked more ominous.
Um, now why is he asking for me to go over into a dark corner? Like I said I have no clue who he is.
“Bro.”
I quickly snapped back into reality. “Oh, sorry! I must have zoned out for a minute,” I moved my hair behind my ear, “I guess we could talk for a bit but-”
“Miss Miller!” Yelled Mrs.Russell, cutting me off. “Get over here now!” She exclaimed, snapping her fingers and then pointing to the ground as if she were a dog trainer.
Why is she so disobedient? She should be looking at the art like everyone else. Thought Mrs.Russell.
Evelynn tried to block out her thoughts, but it didn't work once again. “I’m coming Mrs.Russell!” I yelled. “Sorry, I gotta go,” I tell him. Running over to where Mrs.Russell was standing I stopped in front of her and looked at the floor.

“Evelynn you're a smart kid, but you need to stop breaking the rules, you know the consequences. Do you understand me?” Mrs. Russell explained, patting my shoulder.
“Yes I understand,” I whispered, walking toward the rest of the class as we continued with the field trip.
