An Unusual Solution

Summary:

However, it was not long after, before Wyatt queried once more. "What's so special about Addams? She always seems to be giving you the cold shoulder, but you seem to always be by her side regardless. You know, if I was your boyfriend, I would never treat you like that."

Enid's patience was wearing thin. Sure Wednesday was kind of scary on the outside, but once you got to know her she was actually quite sweet. Even now, she finally tolerated Enid, and was not opposed to touch from her, which was usually a big no-no to most, even her family. What was Wyatt's deal with Wednesday? Was he… jealous of her?

"Fine, do you want to know what's so special about Wednesday?" Enid waits for Wyatt to nod before continuing. "W-We're dating." She blurts out.

Shit.

-OR-

In order to get a persistent student to back down and accept her rejection, Enid lies about being with Wednesday. Now, she has to get Wednesday to go along with her plan.

(TLDR : The wenclair fake dating fic)

Chapter 1: A Small Lie

Notes:

Hello! This is my first fic in the fandom. Hopefully this isn't too badly written.

I'm not sure if Wednesday's dialogue is accurate but i hope she's not too out of character.

Sorry for the short chapter, but this is just the set up. I'm not sure if I'll actually finish this fic and how long the other chapters will be, but I hope you'll stick around for it!

Anyways, hope you enjoy!

Chapter Text

"You really didn't need to walk me back to my dorm." A familiar voice is heard as the door to their room creaked open.

Wednesday was currently engrossed in a book she had just started. Usually, she wouldn't bat an eye to hearing her roommate's voice, but when a second pair of footsteps, along with a hushed whisper was heard, she was annoyed.

She couldn't believe Enid would bring someone over to their room during her reading time. She tossed her book onto the desk, and looked up, catching a glimpse of her roommate who was half way into their shared room.

Enid seemed to be uncomfortable. She was leaning away from the unknown person, while using her body to block the entrance, as though she didn't want the individual to go inside. Moreover, her smile seemed to be false. Wednesday could recognise the telltale signs. She couldn't see the usual sparkle in her roommate's eyes. She was only smiling with her mouth. Combined with her body language, Enid was definitely uneasy.

Something was up.

"It's fine, I don't mind," a voice of a man appears. "Would you like to hangout? We could do it in your dorm."

"Maybe another time, I'm really tired after all that research for the project." Enid replies, scratching her neck.

"You sure? I'm sure we could have some fun." The man persists, placing his hand on her shoulder.

Enid shrugs his hand off, and mutters, "yes, I'm sure, sorry. Besides, guys aren't allowed to be in the girl's dorms."

This interaction was quite odd. Something was off about it and it made Wednesday's skin creep. She decided to intervene. "Sinclair. Who is this?"

The two students looked at Wednesday who had walked over, not noticing her before. "Oh, Wednesday! I forgot you were here. This is Wyatt."

Wyatt reaches out his hand with a smile, "Hey. Me and Enid are partners for our botany project. We were just discussing the content before this. "

Wednesday decides to ignore the hand. "Well, you've just interrupted my reading time. I would appreciate it if you could take your leave before I make you."

He takes his hand back and asks, "uhm, Enid, your roommate's not serious right?"

"Don't worry she's probably just joking." Enid assures him. "But Wednesday's right, I think it's time for you to go ba—"

Before Enid could continue, Wednesday steps forward, and slams the door shut.

"Wednesday! What was that for?" Enid exclaims.

"He was being a nuisance." The psychic crosses her arms and walks back to her desk to continue reading. "If you'll excuse me, I'll return to my reading."

"You can't just slam the door on people!"

"I do not see the problem. You were uncomfortable with his presence,so I got rid of him."

"Well that still doesn't give you the right to do that!" Enid huffs, before walking over to her colourful bed, and flopping down on it.

Silence once again filled the shared room. Wednesday places down her book yet again, preparing for the onslaught of complaints. Although it seemed like Enid had given up on talking, she would soon start to rant about the situation.

"I can't stand Wyatt!"

There it was.

"Every single day we've been working on this project, he keeps pestering me to go out with him!" Enid scoffs. "Everytime I reject him, he doubles his efforts! I'm sick of hearing his not so subtle love confessions."

"Do you require me to talk to him? I'm sure he'll stay away from you once he has a look at my knife collection."

"No! You are not going to hurt him." Enid jerks upright. "We're working on a graded project together, I can't do it alone."

"Can't you simply inform him that you are currently in a relationship with the Gorgon boy?"

"Ajax? We broke up over the break, so I am single now."

"My apologies. I did not know." Wednesday turns around, giving Enid a nod.

"It's fine, we decided we were better off as friends." She shrugs. "You know what, all I have to do is survive two more weeks with him, and I'll be free."

"I wish you the best of luck." Wednesday turns back to her desk, and yet again picks up her book.

Silence soon consumes the room again, as the two begin to be absorbed by their own activities. Wednesday finally manages to get through the first chapter, while Enid, now relaxed from ranting, updates her blog.

Before they both knew it, the sun soon sets and they both settled in for the night.

—————

"Hey Enid, over here." Wyatt waves from a table in the library.

She waves back and takes a seat across from him.

The two begin their discussions and delegating of tasks. While Enid is scribbling away on a piece of paper, the boy suddenly asks, "Enid, are you okay? You seem a bit under the weather today."

She looks up from the paper. "Hm? Oh, I'm fine. I just didn't sleep well last night."

"Is it because of your roommate?" He questions again. "Wednesday Addams right? I hear she's really creepy. Is it true?"

"Nope. She's actually really sweet once you get to know her." Enid picks up her pencil again. "I was thinking we could base our research on plants used for medicinal purposes. We could talk about their origins, uses and how it came about to be used medicinally. How does that sound?"

"Are you sure? She's not hurting you or anything right?" Wyatt persists, ignoring Enid's previous question.

"What? Why would she hurt me?"

"Everyone I know says she's a freak. We've all heard the rumors. If she ever gives you trouble, just let me know."

Enid couldn't believe the audacity of Wyatt to insult her roommate right in front of her. "Did you not hear me? She's never harmed me in any way. Can we just focus on our project?"

"Alright, alright calm down. I was just making sure." He hushes her, looking down back to the paper like he was suddenly interested in the project. "I'm fine with that idea. We could choose which plants to focus on first and start from there? We could maybe do some basic ones like aloe vera, turmeric and pepper. We could also include chebulic myrobalan? I've heard it can be used as a gargle for sore throats. I'm sure there's books all about these plants in the library."

Enid nods and they both continue their discussions.

Shit. Why did she come up with such an excuse? It was too late to take back her answer, so she decided to go along with it.

Wyatt's eyes widened. "What? Aren't you guys just roommates? "

"Well we are roommates but we're also dating." Enid shrugs, going along with the lie. "Wednesday is a pretty private person, so we've been keeping it a secret."

"O-Oh. I just didn't think you'd swing that way." He stammers, different from his usual confident look.

"Is there anything wrong with that?"

"No! Of course not." He immediately responds. "Why tell me though?"

"Well I trust you can keep it a secret. You wouldn't tell anyone right?"

"Your secret is safe with me, don't worry." He smiles.

"Thank you." Enid heaved a sigh of relief.

Finally, they continue their work, beginning to narrow down their research. Wyatt at long last, had given up on the countless questions about Wednesday. He mostly added suggestions here and there, focused on their work. They were definitely making quite the progress now. Maybe these two weeks would pass by quickly.

Perhaps Enid spoke too soon. Wyatt glanced up, before looking back up again. "Look who it is. Why don't you go say hello?"

Enid turns around, only to notice Wednesday in the distance, browsing a bookshelf.

Oh no. Why did Wednesday have to be here now of all time?

"I'd rather we focus on the project instead. Besides, I'll see her later." Enid prays that Wyatt would back down.

"No, no I insist. Plus, we're about done for the day anyways." Was Wyatt trying to see if the two were actually together? Why did he have to be so persistent? It was probably too late now to give up.

Enid gulps, trying to keep her voice down. "Hey Wednesday!" Maybe she wouldn't hear Enid at all.

To her dismay, Wednesday glanced behind and spotted Enid. She walked over.

"Did you need something?"

"Well, I just wanted to say hello to my amazing girlfriend! How are you today? I didn't know you went to the library at these hours." Enid fakes a smile, hoping that Wyatt would fall for her act.

She gets up to face Wednesday.

The library was quiet at this hour and their table was in a secluded spot. She takes a quick glance around, not noticing anyone.

Wednesday looked confused at the words coming out of Enid's mouth." Wh—"

Before questions could be asked by her roommate, Enid stepped forward, closing the distance between them, and kissed her. Wednesday was going to kill her for this.

They're lips stayed connected for quite some time. Surprisingly, Wednesday did not push her away, nor did she pull out any of her weapons. However, she seemed incredibly stiff, like she was a concrete statue. This was definitely worrying.

Enid could feel eyes on her. Why wasn't Wyatt saying anything?

She doesn't know how long they kissed before Wyatt eventually cuts them off. "Uhm, Enid?"

The two pull apart, both softly panting. Wednesday was still zoned out and not moving.

She kicks Wednesday in the foot before quickly whispering. "Please go along with it." Wednesday shakes her head, as though she had been knocked out of her trance. Though, she keeps quiet.

"Sorry. I got carried away. Did you have anything else you wanted to discuss for the project? " Enid hurriedly replies.

"No, I think we can stop here for now." He pauses before adding, "also, are you coming to the party this weekend? Why don't you two come have some fun together?"

Enid vaguely remembers Yoko telling her about it.

"Wednesday isn't really a big fan of social events." Enid answers, silently wishing that Wyatt would let it go.

But of course, he persists like usual. "Come on, I'm sure it'll be fun. Everyone's going. You don't want to miss out do you? Plus, maybe I could get to know your girlfriend better. "

Enid curses Wyatt in her head for not knowing when to give up. "I'll think about it."

"Great! I'll see you this weekend then." He grins, packing up his stuff before taking his leave.

Wednesday, still as silent as ever, nods before taking her leave as well once Wyatt is gone.

Deciding to respect Wednesday's boundaries, Enid does not follow her. Instead, she wanders around the school, but never returns back to the dorm. She would be lying if she said she wasn't scared Wednesday was planning her murder right now. Also, Enid didn't know how to explain what happened in the library.

It was only at curfew did she return to the room. She slowly turns the door knob, pushing the door open lightly.

"You're back later than usual." A voice appears, making Enid flinch.

Looking up, it was Wednesday, who was standing in the middle of their shared room.

"I had some things to do." She lies.

"Did you? Or was it because you kissed me in front of that idiot?"

Enid was terrified right now. Most of the other students would agree that Wednesday was scary. Her usual stoic expression, combined with a glare, often made her seem unapproachable. That was how she looked like right now.

"Please don't murder me."

"Sinclair." Wednesday crossed her arms.

"I'm sorry!" Enid gives in. "Wyatt wouldn't leave me alone again so I panicked and said that I was dating you. You seemed like you were going to expose me so I kissed you to shut you up. Please don't kill me in my sleep."

"I see. If you ever pull such stunts again, do let me know in advance."

To Enid's surprise, Wednesday seemed completely fine with it. She didn't even threaten her at all. What was happening?

"Wait, you don't mind?" Enid asks, stunned.

"I am quite used to your reckless behavior by now." The psychic walks towards Enid. "I do not mind acting as your supposed significant other."

"Really?" Enid was indeed shocked at how easily Wednesday agreed with the idea.

"Enid. I am indebted to you after you saved me from Tyler. I will go along with this plan, as long as you agree to my terms."

"Of course, anything!" Enid was desperate for this to work at this point. She couldn't stand Wyatt anymore, and this idea seemed to make him back off.

"No playing your 'unique' music in our dormitory after 4pm. That is all I ask of you."

"I promise!" Enid agreed immediately. It was such a simple request.

"You're a lifesaver Wends!" Enid goes over to Wednesday, and gives her a hug. It lasted exactly 3 seconds, which was what Wednesday had agreed on. Enid respects this rule and always pulls away after those 3 seconds.

Wednesday nods. "Now if you will excuse me, I believe it is my writing time."

Enid couldn't believe it. Wednesday wasn't going to murder her after all. And now, Wyatt wouldn't bother her anymore. She actually pulled it off!

Maybe this wouldn't be a disaster after all.

Chapter Text

Wednesday was currently sitting at her desk, enjoying another piece of literature yet again. It was still early, so she had decided to sneak in a few minutes to read. At the moment, she was reading 'The Metamorphosis' by Franz Kafka. It was quite an interesting read. The basic plot of the story was that the main character wakes up to find himself transformed into an insect.

She was focused on the book when someone burst through the door.

"Hey Wends!"

Wednesday turns around to notice her bubbly roommate. "Greetings Enid. Did you need something?"

"Well, I was wondering if you would want to discuss how our relationship should work," Enid said, using air quotes.

"That is alright with me." She replied, in her usual deadpan.

Enid places her hands behind her back and leans forward. "I was wondering what your physical boundaries were. I know you don't really like touch, but we probably have to convince Wyatt that we're a couple."

That was one thing Wednesday respected about Enid. Although Enid's 'love language' was touch, she often asked and abided by Wednesday's boundaries. Not once did she ever push them.

"I do not mind any of your usual antics. Just let me know if you do anything."

"Okay, got it." Enid nods. "Speaking of Wyatt, he invited us to a party this weekend."

"What makes you think that I will attend this social event?" Wednesday raises an eyebrow, still facing Enid.

"Please, Wednesday. We don't need to stay too long. Maybe if I go to this party, Wyatt will stop inviting me to things." Enid was getting close to begging. She was desperate for Wyatt to leave her alone.

"Fine." The psychic hums. "Is there anything else I need to know?"

Enid thinks about it for a moment. "Let me think…oh! If Wyatt is going to believe that we're a couple, we have to be convincing. He's probably expecting us to kiss again, so we have to work on that. The last time in the library, it was like I was kissing a statue."

"Wait have you not kissed anyone before?" She adds after hearing silence.

"I do not see the point in having romantic relations with someone. It is a waste of time." Wednesday crosses her arms. "But to answer your question, I did kiss Tyler once. However, it is something I regret and it is a memory I would like to purge from my mind."

She pauses before continuing. "In fact, I will purge it from my mind now."

After a few moments of silence, Wednesday returns.

"Huh? Purge what?" Enid asks, clueless.

"I do not know."

Enid is even more confused now. "Okay well, we're going off track. We have to teach you how to kiss convincingly."

"Well if you're such an expert, teach me."

"Oh uhm, sure. I do have some experience on how to kiss boys so I'm sure it's the same." Enid admits.

Wednesday gulps, feeling something cold sink to the bottom of her stomach. Right.

It made sense that Enid only knew how to kiss boys. They were practically all she ever talked about day and night. Of course, Enid would only be into them and this 'relationship' meant nothing. It was only a matter of time after this unusual solution that Enid would find a boy, who hopefully isn't a moron.

"We'll have to do it later though, since class is about to start."

"Alright then."

—————

Wednesday's thoughts clouded her mind in class. She was sitting next to Enid, which was usually no problem, but today she felt awkward. That conversation with Enid had messed with her mind. Enid was a friend— or 'bestie' as Enid herself had said— and nothing more. Did friends even kiss each other, let alone on the lips? In fact, she secretly wondered what kissing Enid would be like. Wait, why was she thinking of such things?

"Pst, Wends. Are you good?" A voice beside her asks, concerned. "You're looking a little red."

Enid places the back of her hand on Wednesday's forehead.

"I'm quite alright." She whispered back, feeling Enid's hand move away.

—————

Once classes are over, the two girls walk back to their dorm.

As soon as they were in the room, Enid grabbed onto Wednesday's sleeve and dragged her towards the black bed.

There was nothing quite special about it. It was just black and white, the usual colours for Wednesday. It was definitely a complete 180 from Enid's colourful side of the room, but she understood that everyone had their own tastes.

"Why are we at my mattress?"

"Well, I just thought it would be best if we practiced somewhere you're comfortable with." Enid answers, gesturing for Wednesday to take a seat.

Wednesday nods before taking a seat.

"Hey, uhm." The mattress dips as Enid sits next to her, thigh brushing against Wednesday's side as she shifts. Wednesday was quite used to these infrequent touches by now. A touch on the shoulder or hand here and there, maybe even a hug if she was feeling generous. These actions performed by Enid were something Wednesday had gotten used to.

The mattress shifts again as Wednesday turns to face her roommate. She could see her messy dyed blonde hair, accompanied by her usual bright smile.

"Are you sure you're okay with this? You're not uncomfortable or anything are you? We can just stop if you don't want to do this." Enid continues a hint of worry in her voice.

"I am not uncomfortable. Are you? " Wednesday asks.

The two roommates were now sitting face to face, cross-legged.

"Nope, I'm fine. Should we get started then?"

Enid waits for Wednesday's acknowledgment before starting. "Okay, so I guess the first thing is consent. We should communicate clearly and freely about things we're comfortable or uncomfortable with. If not, this will turn into a mess."

"You didn't ask for it in the library."

"You were going to expose me!" She exclaims.

"You have my consent. Now what?" Wednesday rolls her eyes.

"Hmm. Well, you definitely can't just stand still like last time. If we ever kiss, you can just place a hand on my neck or face, so that it'll look more natural." The werewolf shrugs. "Just do whatever feels right and go with the flow."

Wednesday suddenly places a hand on Enid's face, who shudders from the cold touch. "Like this?"

"Yeah, that works." Enid soon gets used to the cold of her roommate's hand. Maybe she is a good teacher after all.

"Okay, this is the important part. There isn't really a proper way to kiss but I'll just tell you what people usually do. Face me, part your lips, and go in for the kiss. Remember to close your eyes 'cause it'll be weird if you stare at the person you're kissing." Enid reaches forward to place a hand on Wednesday's shoulder before starting to explain." Oh! Also, feel free to use your tongue if you're feeling daring, just don't go too overboard or Wyatt will be weirded out. Basically, just go along with it. Do you get it?"

"Yes, I do," Wednesday replies while Enid starts to trace circles onto her collarbone.

Although Enid had finished her short guide to kissing, none of them takes the first step. The two sit in silence, facing each other. Suddenly, Enid leans closer, causing Wednesday to flinch. She closes the remaining distance between them and their lips touch, capturing them into a kiss.

Wednesday gasps, eyes slowly closing. Remembering Enid's advice, she does what she thinks feels right. With growing confidence, her hands start to wander and softly roam Enid's back.

Meanwhile, Enid's eyes also flutter closed. She starts to notice Wednesday's hands on her back and their increased proximity. She was surprised that Wednesday had learnt this quickly.

Enid pulls back a few seconds later, flustered. Both were softly panting, catching their breath after such a short kiss. "Are you okay?" Noticing Enid's state, Wednesday cuts the silence short. "Will that suffice?"

Enid blinks, focusing on Wednesday's face. That was surprisingly good. She was bewildered that Wednesday practically had zero experience on kissing.

"Yeah, that was good."She blinks again, and blurts out."Do it—do it again."

This time, the kiss was less hesitant. It was softer, both now more sure of what to do. Enid's hand moved to Wednesday's spine, and the touch made her heart flutter. Somehow, Enid dares to let her tongue wander to Wednesday's lips. She could taste the hint of coffee on them. A whisper of a moan escapes the Psychic's mouth and Enid can't help but giggle.

The two pull away again, out of breath, while they continue to look at one another.

"You look satisfied. I'm assuming I did well then?" Wednesday says, in between small pants.

"Yeah, you did good. I'm sure it'll convince Wyatt." Enid smirks. "Maybe you are a natural at kis—"

A series of frantic taps cuts through Enid's words. The two girls snap their heads towards the sound, only to notice it was Thing.

Oh no.

"Thing! It's not what it looks like!" Enid exclaims, panicked.

He continues his sequence of taps before Wednesday interrupts him. "Mention this to anyone, and you'll be back in the drawer."

This causes Thing to freeze. After a few moments, he taps out one last sentence. "I know what you are." He then scrambles away.

"What the hell does that mean?"

"I would not like to know." Wednesday shrugs, also baffled.

"Okay then. Well, now you've somewhat mastered kissing. Hopefully, Wyatt will believe it." Enid smiles, happy that her 'fake relationship' was going to work.

"I'm sure that idiot will believe anything."

"I think you're starting to rub off on me because I actually agree with that statement."

Enid notices the slight twitch of the corner of Wednesday's mouth. Was she smiling?

Before she could process that question, she took a glance at the clock.

"Shit!" Enid immediately jumps off the bed, rushing to grab her stuff. "I'm late to meet Yoko, I've got to go. See you later Wends!"

"Have fun."

Enid bolts through the door, leaving Wednesday alone with her thoughts.

Wednesday can't help but feel a blush crawl up her face.

Thing crawls back from God knows where and taps something out.

"Shut it." She mutters.

Chapter Text

Wednesday doesn't know when it started.

When she first started attending Nevermore, she couldn't wait to leave. She didn't want to follow in her parent's footsteps and wanted to avoid living in their shadows. But that all changed when she met Enid. Sure, she could not stand the colourful werewolf at first, but over time, Wednesday learned to tolerate her. Enid is friendly, bubbly and practically a polar opposite of Wednesday. However, the werewolf had countless other traits that Wednesday grew to admire. She didn't mind staying in Nevermore anymore, and she was fine with being friends with Enid.

Though, 'friends' was probably a lie. Ever since Enid had come up with her ridiculous plan, Wednesday felt… different. She had always seen relationships as useless, and a waste of time. First marriages end in divorce half of the time, so what was the point of it all? But now, Wednesday often felt a feeling she couldn't identify, whenever she thought about or was with Enid.

She was insane for thinking about this.

Speaking of her roommate, Enid was sat across from her. They were in the quad, sitting together during their break.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Wednesday was reading another book. However, she couldn't focus due to a certain distraction.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Wednesday grips the book in frustration. The person across from her had been tapping some sort of mind-numbing rhythm onto the table for the past few minutes and it was getting on Wednesday's nerves, patience wearing thin.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

That's it. Wednesday couldn't control herself anymore. She slams her book down and stares at the werewolf in front of her. "Enid. What is it."

The werewolf stops her tapping and begins to ramble. "Sorry. I'm just kind of overthinking about the party tomorrow. We don't really have a cover story for our pretend relationship. What if Wyatt asks when we started dating or questions like who confessed first? Or any other dumb questions like h—"

"Stop overthinking," Wednesday cuts Enid's rant short. "We can just come up with a story right now. It's as simple as that."

"Y-You're right! Okay!" Enid smiles, beginning to calm down. "I can come up with something right now and you just let me know if it's alright?"

"That is fine with me."

"Okay then." Enid thinks for a few moments before presenting her story. "If Wyatt ever asks, we could say we've only been dating for a few months but we've been keeping it a secret since you're a private person, though I already told him that last part. Oh! We could say we realised we had feelings for each other after the whole Hyde situation. Also, if for some reason he brings up the question of who confessed first, we could say it was you and that I accepted since I felt the same way. I think that's about it. Hopefully, Wyatt doesn't ask any weird questions nobody thinks of."

Enid takes a deep breath after announcing her whole idea in less than a minute.

"I'm fine with the story." Wednesday agreed. "However, I do have a question. Why would I be the one to disclose my feelings first?"

"Hm. Well, you are quite soft to people you care about." Enid winks, continuing to look at Wednesday.

"...Fine." The psychic begrudgingly concurs. "If my reputation is ruined, you'll be the first one I think of."

"That settles it then!" Enid grins. "Thanks for easing my worries."

"It was nothing."

Once the bell rings, the two girls walk to class together, side by side.

—————

Weekends were probably Enid's favourite days of the week. She could take a break from school, and instead, hang out with friends or simply just relax. During weekends, Enid is free from stress, and she can enjoy her day.

Yet, Enid dreaded this weekend.

She had to go to the party Wyatt had invited her to. Usually, she didn't mind these parties students often held but Wyatt being there would destroy her mood to have fun. At least Wednesday would also suffer with her since Enid had roped her into it.

Currently, she was getting ready for said party. Enid had decided to dress simple. She adorned her favourite pink sweater, accompanied with a floral patterned skirt. She had already done her nails with Thing the day before, so now, she was waiting for Wednesday.

"Wends! Are you ready?"

"Yes," Wednesday replies as she steps out of her closet.

With an opposite colour scheme than Enid, Wednesday wore a striped shirt with a black jacket, along with basic black trousers.

"Alright! Let's go to this awful party!" Enid fakes enthusiasm, gesturing for Wednesday to follow her.

Enid grabs her purse, and they both walk out of the room, venturing towards the place where the party supposedly took place.

When they reached the venue, some student's dorm room, loud music could be heard despite the two standing outside the door. It was some sort of synth-pop music, and it was being blasted. The chatter of students could also be heard underneath all the music.

Enid decides to knock on the door.

A fellow student opens the door and pops out. "Hey, come on in!"

The pair walk in, hearing the door close. They could see students dispersed in groups, talking amongst themselves. Some were also dancing, while others were at the side, grabbing snacks and drinks. Enid scans the room, to notice that some of her friends were there. She also sees Wyatt in a corner of the room.

"Let's go say hi to Yoko. I'm hoping Wyatt doesn't notice us." Enid tells Wednesday over the noise.

Once Wednesday nods, the two walk in the direction of Yoko. Enid waves, and once the vampire notices, she eagerly waves back.

"Hey, Yoko!" Enid beams.

"Greetings, Tanaka." Wednesday also says, straight-faced.

"Pup! You're here!" Yoko exclaims. "And you brought goth girl here too!"

Wednesday scowls at the vampire. "Call me that again and I will end you."

"Sure, goth girl. You wouldn't do it, 'cause Enid would be too sad if I died," Yoko says, turning to face the werewolf. "Anyways, Enid, what are you doing here?"

"I just thought we'd pop by to check it out." Wednesday continues to glare at Yoko while Enid answers her. "Wyatt also suggested we come here and he was pretty insistent so…"

"Wyatt? That creep?" Yoko mutters. "Isn't he the one that won't accept your rejections?"

"Yeah…" Enid frowns. "He just can't take a hint."

"Well, I wish you the best of luck with him." Yoko glances around before resuming. "I'm going to go say hi to Divina. Addams, I trust you to keep Enid safe. You two have fun!"

They wave goodbye, leaving Wednesday and Enid by themselves again.

"I despise that vampire." Wednesday declares, with the same scowling expression on her face.

"Come on, she's not that bad. Sure, she can be kind of annoying at times but she's my friend."

"How long will we be here?" Wednesday asks, changing the topic.

Enid thinks for a second. "Maybe like an hour? Is that alright?"

Wednesday does her usual nod, agreeing with Enid's proposed time.

They continue their conversations before someone interrupts them.

"Enid! Hey!"

The two look around, only to notice Wyatt walking towards them. Somehow, he had spotted them from where he stood in the corner of the room. Enid felt a sick feeling in her stomach.

"Hi, Wyatt." Enid returns the greeting, calmly.

"Hey, Enid and…Wednesday. So glad you could make it!" Wyatt grins like a Cheshire cat.

"Yeah, me too. The party is quite fun." Enid murmurs.

"I agree!" Wyatt is still smiling. "While I'm here, uhm, I'd like to apologise for my behaviour towards your girlfriend the first time I met her. It was wrong of me."

Well, that was surprising. "It's alright. We can bury the hatchet."

"So… how did you guys even start dating?" Wyatt questions.

Enid knew Wyatt had a chance of asking that. Thankfully the two girls had already prepared for this. Enid was about to answer when Wednesday cuts her off. "It was after the Hyde had been stopped. I realised I had grown to like Enid, as more than a friend. I made my feelings known, and Enid felt the same. She is truly a wonderful partner."

"That's nice!" Wyatt nods his head before whispering. "Do you have any embarrassing stories about her?"

"Hey, I could hear that!" Enid crosses her arms.

"One time when we were in Jericho, Enid and I were strolling down the streets. Enid noticed that an employee of the Weathervane was waving at her. Enid, in turn, waved back enthusiastically. Turns out, the employee was simply washing the windows of the store. It was truly laughable." Wednesday reminisces.

Enid could feel her cheeks heating up. "It was one time! I couldn't go back to the Weathervane for days after that."

Wyatt laughs. "Wow, that is quite the story. You're so funny, Enid."

He pauses before adding. "That reminds me. A game of truth or dare is about to start. Would you guys want to join in?"

Enid looks at Wednesday, waiting for an answer. "Sure, I guess we could stay for a few rounds."

"Alright then! It starts in about five minutes." Wyatt grins yet again, before walking away.

"What is this 'Truth or Dare'?"

"Wait, you don't know what it is?" Enid asks, somewhat shocked. When Wednesday nods, the werewolf explains. "Truth or Dare is a party game. Usually, someone spins a bottle. Whoever the bottle lands on, has to choose to do a truth or a dare. The person who spun the bottle will then ask a question or suggest a dare based on the chosen person's response."

"I see."

The five minutes soon pass, and countless students soon gather around to sit in a circle on the floor. Enid and Wednesday join in, sitting side by side.

The first student gets up and spins the bottle. The first few dares and truths go by quickly, with some students doing dares like eating spoonfuls of condiments, or answering truths such as 'Who is your celebrity crush'.

By some means, the bottle lands on Wyatt.

"Truth or dare?" The student asks, waiting for an answer.

Wyatt replies almost immediately. "I'll go with truth."

"Who is your crush?"

A few 'oohs' and 'ahhs' are heard once the question is asked.

"Enid Sinclair," Wyatt answers, taking a glance at Enid herself.

Students start to murmur amongst themselves. The chatter soon settles down and Wyatt gets up to spin the bottle. Enid doesn't think anything of it since there's no way the bottle would land on her. There's quite a number of students in the circle so the chances of it landing on her are slim. Maybe close to nothi—

The bottle lands on Enid.

Shit. Of course, it would land on her of all times.

"Truth or Dare Enid?"

Enid weighs her choices and chooses the safer option. "Truth," she says confidently.

"Are you and Wednesday dating?"

What the hell. Was Wyatt seriously testing them again?

Chatter among the students soon rises again once Wyatt asks the question.

"C-Can I do a dare instead?" Enid stutters, hoping Wyatt would go easy on her.

"Sure. I'll be lenient on you." Wyatt smirks. "I dare you… to kiss Wednesday."

Gasps are heard when Wyatt speaks again.

Shit. Shit. Shit. Enid is starting to panic. She could hear Wednesday's breath hitch. She quickly whisper-shouts to the person beside her. "Wednesday, what do we do!?"

"Just do the dare. Is that not part of the game?" Wednesday whispers back.

"But are you alright with it? Everyone will see! I could forfeit the dare instead if you don't want to do th—" Enid blabbers on before being cut off.

Wednesday reached around, a hand on Enid's cheek, before pulling her into a kiss. Enid's hands, in turn, place themselves on the small of the psychic's back. The kiss started soft, before becoming firmer. Enid tilts her head and her lips slightly part once she feels Wednesday's tongue run across her bottom lip. When Enid moved her hand higher, she could practically feel Wednesday's heart beating rapidly.

The kiss leaves them breathless and the two girls pant softly, lips barely touching.

Enid is the first to pull away and continues to face Wednesday. The crowd of students soon erupt into chatter and gasps, discussing what they just saw. However, Enid and Wednesday continue to gaze at each other, ignoring their surroundings.

"Hey Enid, it's your turn to spin the bottle." Someone calls out.

Enid blinks, no longer in a daze. "Oh! Right! My bad."

She gets up and spins the bottle, and the rounds continue.

Time passes by and Wednesday finally mutters to Enid. "Your hour is up."

"Okay, let's go then!"

The two get up from their place on the floor, letting the others know they were leaving.

Wyatt, without a doubt, also gets up. "Enid, I'll walk you to the door!"

"It's fine, we can go by ourselves." Enid prays that Wyatt won't follow them, even though she knows that it would be inevitable.

"No, no, I insist."

The trio then walk to the entrance of the room, exiting through the door. The hallway was empty.

"Wait, I forgot to grab my purse. Let me go get it." Enid realises. "Will you two be okay by yourselves?"

Wednesday gestures her answer, while Wyatt replies verbally. "Yes, don't worry. Feel free to take your time."

"Okay then." Enid pushes the door open to walk back into the party, leaving Wednesday and Wyatt together.

The two stand there, waiting for Enid to come back.

"You know…" Wyatt breaks the silence. "I don't understand why Enid even chose you."

"Excuse me?"

"First off, you don't even seem to like Enid." Wyatt narrows his eyes, facing Wednesday. "You're blunt and rude to everyone. You don't even seem to care about Enid. Sometimes, you even act like Enid is invisible. She has feelings too you know? She's not some monster incapable of feeling like you. There are way better candidates that Enid could date, but she chose you. I don't understand why."

"Who are you to say this?" Wednesday scowls at the boy, crossing her arms.

"I bet Enid's doing it out of pity." Wyatt ignores Wednesday. "She's kind and friendly to everyone. She probably saw that you were a loner and felt bad. And when you confessed to her, she didn't know how to reject you. So now, she's stuck dating you instead of someone better."

Wednesday didn't know why Wyatt's words were getting to her. Why did she believe him?

"Enough." Wednesday snaps, reaching for one of her knives before slamming Wyatt into the nearest wall. She points the knife near his neck as she growls. "You have no right to say this. My relationship with Enid is none of your business."

Wyatt raises his hands in surrender. "Alright, alright. Calm down. You don't want Enid to see you threatening me do you?"

Wednesday couldn't believe the audacity of Wyatt. She inches the blade nearer to Wyatt's jugular. "Don't tell me to calm down."

"Hey guys, I'm back! Sorry for taking so long." A voice behind them appears.

Wednesday immediately lets Wyatt go, hiding her knife again. They both turn to face Enid.

"Uh…did something happen?" Enid asks, noticing the silence between Wednesday and Wyatt.

"Cara mia, you're back." Wednesday walks towards Enid. She places a hand on Enid's back, suddenly pulling her in for a kiss. The werewolf flinches in surprise. They soon pull away and Wednesday continues. "Don't worry, nothing happened."

"Uhm, okay then." Enid is taken aback. "Anyways, I think it's time we go back."

Wyatt gives a bittersweet smile. "Bye Enid. It was great seeing you."

Enid smiles back, bidding their farewells, before grabbing Wednesday's hand, to drag themselves back to their dorm.

Once they were far enough from the party, Enid starts to scold Wednesday. "Be honest with me. Something did happen. You were acting weird just now. What's the problem?"

"It was nothing." Wednesday lies. "I couldn't stand that halfwit's presence."

Enid knows Wednesday wasn't telling the truth, but knowing her roommate's stubbornness, she decides to change the topic. "Well, that went better than expected, don't you think? I think we convinced Wyatt."

Wednesday faces forward, approaching their dorm room. "Hm. I suppose we did well."

But to Wednesday, it didn't feel like a success.

Chapter Text

Something was wrong.

Wednesday was acting weird. Well, weirder than usual. Ever since the party, Wednesday was even more quiet than usual. She looked fine on the outside, still going about her days in school like usual. But, Enid could notice a difference in her behaviour. Whenever Enid talked to her, the psychic simply nodded or hummed in reply. Other times, when Enid wanted to confront Wednesday and ask what was wrong, she would come up with excuses that she needed to go somewhere. She spent even more time outside their shared dorm than usual and only came back near curfew. This odd change in behaviour worried Enid. Did she do something wrong? Why was Wednesday avoiding her?

Today, Enid tries to confront Wednesday again.

Wednesday was sitting at her desk, reading another book once again. They had barely talked today and the silence of the room was getting to Enid.

She finally breaks. "You've been acting strange. What's wrong?"

"Nothing is wrong." Wednesday continues to read.

"Quit lying," Enid gets up from her bed. "Something's wrong. We've barely talked since the party, what happened?"

"We're talking right now," Wednesday says, flipping the pages of her book.

"Don't act smart," Enid crosses her arms. "You didn't even bat an eye when I left my stuff lying on the floor. You always complain about the messes I make."

"Shouldn't you be happy that I am not complaining? You always say I act like your mother."

"That's not the point," Enid's anger slowly fades. She says in a hushed tone. "I'm worried about you."

"For what?" Wednesday scoffs, turning the page loudly. She doesn't turn to face Enid and continues to grip onto the cover of the book as though she was holding on for dear life.

Wednesday was avoiding the conversation, which was out of the ordinary for her. Silence returns to the room, but is stopped when Enid marches towards Wednesday.

Similar to Wednesday, Enid was also stubborn. She grabs the book, pulling it away from Wednesday. "Stop dodging this conversation!"

"Hand over the book." Wednesday glares, trying to grab the book back from Enid's clutches.

Instead, Enid takes the book in one hand and raises it up in the air. "You're not getting this back until we talk."

"You can't be serious." Wednesday tries reaching up for the book."Quit this childish behaviour."

"Nope," Enid persists. "Not until you participate in this conversation."

There was no way Wednesday could reach the book. Enid was definitely taller than the psychic, and she doubted that the shorter girl could jump so high.

However, she didn't expect this outcome.

In a matter of seconds, Enid's back crashes onto the floor. A firm grip restrained her wrists to the floor, above her head. Wednesday hovers over her, straddling the werewolf. Enid squirmed in Wednesday's grip, but the psychic was unmoving. Enid had forgotten how strong Wednesday was despite her height.

"Let it go, Enid," Wednesday says, holding Enid's wrists in one hand while using the other to retrieve her book. "There is no need to act like you care when that idiotic boy isn't here."

"But I do care!" Enid hisses. "We're best friends. Of course, I care whether you're okay. Your recent behaviour is scaring me."

A wave of guilt washes over Wednesday. She unknowingly loosens her grip on Enid's wrists. Taking the chance, Enid frees her wrists and pushes Wednesday on her back, now reversing their positions.

Wednesday's breath hitches. She doesn't know whether to fight back or give in.

"So are you going to answer me or not?" Enid questions, when noticing Wednesday's hesitation.

Wednesday remains quiet.

"Fine. I guess your silence is all I need to know about you." Enid huffs. "Does our friendship really mean nothing to you?"

She gets up, leaving Wednesday sprawled on the ground. "You know, I've tried really hard to be your friend." Enid takes a deep breath. "I thought I had finally made a breakthrough. But the fact that you can't accept that I'm worried about you, says everything."

"I'm such an idiot." Enid sounded like she was on the verge of tears.

"Enid.." Wednesday breathes, trying to get up and reach for the werewolf's hand.

Enid takes a step back. "I'm meeting with Yoko and Divina. Enjoy your book."

Enid storms out of the room and slams the door, leaving Wednesday on the floor alone.

—————

Their argument is all Enid could think about at the Weathervane. She tried listening to the conversations Yoko and Divina were having but her thoughts kept switching back to Wednesday. Why did she have to be so stubborn? Why couldn't she just talk it out with Enid?

"...nid. Hey Enid! You there?" A voice calls out.

Enid's previous thoughts disappear, looking up to face the voice.

"Huh? Sorry, what were you saying?" Enid asks, slightly confused.

"You seem out of it," Yoko says. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, did something happen?" Divina adds, equally concerned.

"Yeah…sorry." Enid frowns, fidgeting with the straw of her drink.

"No need to apologise. Would talking about it make you feel better?"

Enid nods.

"What's the source of your moodiness then?"

"Wednesday."

"What about her? Did you two fight again?" Yoko asks, taking a sip from her drink. "I thought you two always argue, so what's the difference now?"

"Well, she's been acting weird. She keeps making up excuses to avoid talking to me, and we've basically barely talked the past few days. I'm worried." Enid admits.

"That kinda sounds like how goth girl usually acts though." Yoko shrugs.

"Yoko, not now, let her talk." Divina places her hand on the Vampire's.

Enid would be lying if she said she didn't feel jealous. She was ashamed that she envied her friends' close friendship. A part of her wished that something like that could happen to her.

"Enid, why don't you continue your story?"

"Oh right." Enid shakes her thoughts away. "I tried to talk to her just now, but all she wanted to do was read her stupid book. She keeps dodging my questions."

Divina thinks for a moment. "How long has this been going on?"

"Since the party," Enid pauses. "I left her alone with Wyatt for like five minutes, and she started acting weird. Plus, she kissed me more aggressively than usual."

"Like usual?" Yoko practically spits her drink out. "So you two are finally dating? I can't believe my ship has sailed!"

"Good for you Enid. I'm you two finally sorted out your feelings." Divina's eyes widened upon processing what Enid had just said.

"What? No." Enid scoffs. "We aren't dating. We're just faking it in front of Wyatt so he'll stop asking me out. Besides, I'm straight."

"You're straight?" Yoko practically slams her hands on the table. "Pup, I don't think it's straight to kiss your roommate."

Divina nods. "I kind of find that hard to believe."

"I've only dated boys, of course, I'm straight," Enid couldn't believe it. "And how does kissing Wednesday automatically make me not straight? I kiss my friends sometimes, even you two!"

"Yeah, but you kissed Wednesday on the lips. Multiple times!" Yoko almost screams. "You kiss us on the cheek or forehead, not on the lips!"

"Sorry Enid, but I agree with Yoko," Divina says.

"What's the difference? It's just a kiss."

"You know what we'll get back to that later." Yoko pinches the bridge of her nose. "So, you're telling me that Wednesday just agreed to your dumb idea of fake dating?"

"Yes?"

"Did she ask you to do anything?" Divina speaks.

"She just said I couldn't play music in our dorm after 4 pm."

"That's it?" Yoko asks.

"I guess? She said she owed me after saving her from that monster." Enid shrugs.

"Let me get this straight." Yoko glances towards Divina. "Just because Wyatt can't take a hint and accept your rejections, you decided to lie about dating Wednesday? Was that seriously the only solution you could think of?"

"I panicked okay? He seemed jealous about Wednesday so I lied and then the tiny lie evolved into a bigger lie."

"And Wednesday just went along with it?" Divina speaks next.

"Yes, I already told you this."

Yoko and Divina both give each other a look, as though they knew something Enid didn't. "Was kissing Wednesday necessary though?"

"Yeah, obviously," Enid rolls her eyes. "The first time I kissed her, she was like a solid statue. Wyatt wouldn't believe us if we didn't kiss convincingly, so it made sense that I had to teach her how to."

"I don't even know what to say." Yoko looks towards Enid. "Are you two, perhaps, not faking it?

"What? No." Enid scoffs. What was Yoko trying to say? "You literally said Wednesday and I fight all the time. Why would you think we're dating?"

"Firstly…" Divina says. "Ever since the whole Hyde situation, Wednesday has been acting nicer to you. The other students have also had some suspicions about you and Wednesday dating after the infamous hug."

"Secondly…" Yoko chimes in. "It would explain her behaviour. She agreed with your fake dating idea so easily and barely asked for anything back. And maybe she's acting strange now cause Wyatt said something to her, and now she feels conflicted. It is in character for Wednesday to be bad at feelings. Did you consider the possibility that Wednesday has feelings for you?"

"There's no way that's true." Enid insists. "Wednesday is straight too."

"How do you know she's straight?"

"She kissed that normie."

"And?" Yoko facepalms herself. "Did she say to you that she's straight?"

Enid thinks for a second. "No?"

"Then how does that make her straight?" Yoko sighs. "Do you just think she looks straight?"

Before Enid could speak, Divina cut her off. "Wait, Enid. Answer this question. Am I straight?"

"Are you not?" Enid replies, innocently.

Yoko and Divina glance at each other again. They didn't know Enid was this oblivious. "Enid."

"What?"

"Yoko and I are literally dating." Divina chokes out.

"Oh. You are? Congrats!" Enid smiles like she has forgotten what their conversation was about.

Yoko was about to lash out at Enid, but Divina stops her. "You know what, never mind. Let's go back to our main topic. Enid, did you catch feelings then?"

"I—" Enid's heart flutters at the question. "No, we're just fake dating to make Wyatt back off. Like I said before, I'm straight."

"Are you though?"

Her heart skips a beat. "Yes, I am."

"Alright then. I'll drop the question."

"So…what were you saying before this?" Enid asks.

The group of friends continue their conversations but Enid's thoughts can't help but wander off again.

—————

Wednesday was sitting at their room's circular window, with her knees up to her chest.

After Enid had stormed out of their room, Wednesday had been thinking about how she could possibly make up with the werewolf. It all came crashing down. She felt like a coward, for running away from Enid's questions. Why did she let Wyatt's words get to her?

Enid hadn't been back to their shared dorm, ever since she left. It was getting late, and a part of Wednesday was worried about where she had gone.

Out of the blue, the door opens, with Enid marching in.

"Enid. Y-You're back." Wednesday rushes to get up, walking over to her.

"Don't worry I'll be out of your hair soon," Enid mutters, trying to grab her bag.

"What?"

"I'm going to crash at Yoko's."

"Wait, Enid," Wednesday voices out. "Let me explain."

"I thought you didn't want to talk?" Enid is grabbing her essentials, throwing them into her bag. "It was quite clear to me this morning."

"Stop." Wednesday grabs onto Enid's wrist. "I would like to apologise for my earlier actions."

"I don't see the point." Enid insists, trying to get her wrist out of Wednesday's hold. She wouldn't budge. "If you don't want to talk about it, then let's not."

"I'll explain it to you," Wednesday proposes. "But you may not understand."

Enid continues to pull her hand away from Wednesday but is unsuccessful. Wednesday in turn, tries to grab Enid's other wrist.

However, Enid senses what Wednesday was about to do. She manages to turn the tables on the psychic, and instead pins her down, back hitting Enid's bed.

"Do you always have to resort to using force?" Enid questions, grip now firmly pressed on Wednesday's wrists. "And why wouldn't I understand?"

Wednesday hesitates, she knows it's weak to be feeling this way. But if she doesn't explain, Enid would leave her again.

"Do you dislike me?" She whispers out.

"What?" Enid could see the exhaustion behind her roommate's eyes. So that was what was bothering her? "Wednesday…why would I ever hate you?"

Wednesday opens her mouth, but no words escape. She closed it again, looking away from Enid's gaze.

"Wednesday…" Enid's voice turns softer. She lets go of her right hand to caress the psychic's cheek. "Just tell me. I care about you, and I'll be here for you no matter what."

"Everyone in school knows that I'm…" Wednesday gulps. "Unusual. They do not understand my hobbies. Some even think that I'm a monster. But, you don't seem to care."

Enid takes a step back, helping Wednesday get back up. Enid grabs onto the psychic's hand. "So? That doesn't bother me. Who cares what the other students think? They don't know you, and deep down, I know you have a soft spot."

"Are you…" Watching Enid give a small smile, Wednesday asks another question. "befriending me out of pity then?"

"Why would I?" Enid is confused by the question. She couldn't believe such things bothered her roommate. "Like I said before, we're like some weird friendship anomaly. We shouldn't work, but we do. I'm glad to be your best friend and roommate. I wouldn't change anything."

"I appreciate your comments." Wednesday swallows hard again. "Once again, I am sorry for my earlier behaviour."

"Hey, it's alright! I forgive you." Enid says, in her usual cheerful tone. "I'm also sorry for how I acted just now."

Silence followed.

"Who knew you were bothered by such things," Enid suddenly laughs.

"Mention this to anyone and—"

"Yeah, yeah. I know."

Enid takes a step forward and pulls Wednesday into a tight hug. Wednesday reciprocates, wrapping her arms around the taller girl.

"Hey, uhm, Wednesday. The 3 seconds are up." Enid mentions, still feeling the shorter girl's arms around her.

"It is fine," Wednesday doesn't move. "I do not mind."

"Really?" Enid exclaims, immediately tightening the hug.

"I..." Wednesday says, in a hushed tone, "missed you.

"Aww Wednesday, I missed you too!"

Maybe Enid did make a breakthrough with Wednesday after all.

Chapter Text

Wednesday was not hiding from Enid.

At least, hiding wasn't the correct word. It implied that she was weak, and running away from her problems. She wasn't necessarily hiding from Enid, but more so avoiding her for the day. After the events of last night, Wednesday couldn't face Enid. She was slightly embarrassed for saying that she missed Enid's presence. There was a possibility that she had deeper feelings for Enid, but as of now, she had them under control.

Hence, she decided to head to the Weathervane, to grab her daily fix of caffeine, instead of joining her bubbly roommate on her adventures in Jericho. Most of the time, the store was bustling with people, but for some unknown reason, it was quiet today. The bell chimes when Wednesday pushes open the door, and a waft of coffee envelops her. She heads over to the counter to place her order.

"A quad over ice," Wednesday says, flatly.

"Okay, that will be $5.50," the employee says, ringing up the register.

Since Tyler was gone and sent to some government facility, the small store had to employ new workers, to keep the store running.

This was quite a pleasant change for Wednesday. She enjoyed that they didn't even remember her, and that they weren't interested in Wednesday whatsoever, unlike one of its previous employees.

She didn't have to deal with Tyler's enthusiastic smiles whenever she visted the store anymore. Due to her frequent visits, the boy had assumed that Wednesday was there for him. According to him, she had given him 'hints'. But up till now, Wednesday had not figured out what he had meant. He was delusional, thinking that Wednesday was interested in him out of all people.

Tyler would have never been a good option. She regrets ever meeting him in the first place. But, he was old news now. Xavier was also another lost cause. He pestered her each time she saw him, and despite countless rejections, he did not seem to give up. He even had the audacity to gift Wednesday a phone, with his number in it, as though he were expecting her to call him. She had immediately blocked his number.

She doesn't know what other possible candidates she wouldn't mind pursuing a romantic relationship with. Maybe…Enid?
That would indeed explain her weird feelings. She couldn't recognise them, but a part of her yearned being with the werewolf. It was precisely the reason she had agreed to Enid's inane plan in the first place. Unfortunately, according to Enid herself, she was heterosexual, or 'straight' as Enid had put it. She only saw Wednesday as a friend. Their fake relationship meant nothing. She already knew that.

Perhaps she should consult an expert of the matter, but that was a thought for later.

She is shaken out of her thoughts when her name is called. She heads over to the counter, grabbing her cup of coffee, before excusing herself. She slides into her usual booth seat, beside the window. Today, she had planned to relax. She had brought another book to read, and was determined to get through a few chapters.

She takes a glance at her phone, noticing a text from her brother, Puglsey, who had sent her a 'meme'. She still did not understand that term, despite Enid's countless lessons. Wednesday had to admit that this 'technology' was interesting. You could find answers with just a quick search on some app called 'Google'. Enid had also taught her how to take pictures using the device. It did come in handy at times, but Wednesday still barely used it. She puts her phone away.

She takes a sip of her coffee, feeling the caffeine start to flow through her veins. Then, she begins to delve into the story of her book. She flips the pages, soon reaching the second chapter.

An unknown amount of time passes, when the bell of the door rings, signalling that someone had entered. Wednesday looks up briefly, before doing a double take when she recognised the figure.

It was Enid.

She last saw Enid when they were getting off the bus that took Nevermore students to Jericho. Enid had been telling her about all of the things she had planned to do that day, before inviting Wednesday to join in, though Wednesday declined the offer. However, nowhere in Enid's plans did she mention she would be arriving at the Weathervane. That was precisely why she had chosen the Weathervane as her hiding spot. But now Enid was here.

Enid frantically scans the store, before setting her eyes on Wednesday, in the booth seat. She rushes over, before jumping into the seat beside Wednesday. She quickly shuffles in.

Wednesday drops her book in bewilderment, before looking over at Enid, who continues to slide closer, practically pushing Wednesday against the glass window. Their shoulders brush against each other and Wednesday flinches. There was no empty space between them.

"What happened?" Wednesday asks, noticing the panicked state of her roommate. Enid didn't seem to be hurt. Her clothes seemed perfectly fine. The only difference was that she was slightly sweaty, seemingly having ran to the Weathervane. She also glanced towards the door of the store continuously, like she was expecting someone to appear.

"I may have uhm…" Enid swallows harshly. "Stumbled upon Wyatt."

Wednesday sighs. She was not in the mood to deal with that moron today. "And?"

"He did his usual flirting and then tried asking me out again. And then, I panicked and said I had to meet up with someone."

"Why are you in such a panicked state then? Did you not avoid him?"

"That's the issue." Enid slams the table all of a sudden, turning to face Wednesday. "I kind of mentioned that I was going to the Weathervane by accident? So now he knows I'm here."

"Well then. We shall just continue to carry out your bizarre plan, where we are partners?"

Right! The werewolf had forgotten about the charade they had to keep up in front of Wyatt.

The bell chimes again when someone pushes it open. Wyatt stumbles in, before immediately spotting Enid, and begins to walk over.

"Shit! He's here. What should we do?" Enid asks.

"Do not panic." Wednesday whispers. "Also, I would like to apologise for this sudden behaviour beforehand."

"What behavi—"

Wednesday grabs Enid's chin, before leaning incredibly close, and pulls the werewolf into a kiss.

The words die in Enid's throat as she leans into the kiss. She melts into the touch, one hand on the seat cushion pushing herself to lean closer, while the other snakes its way to the back of Wednesday's neck. Wednesday definitely had put Enid's lessons to good use.

The clearing of someone's throat above them, makes Wednesday reluctantly pull away.

"Do you mind?" Wednesday looks up to glare at the person. "Is interrupting a couple's private moment something you do often?"

"My bad," Wyatt apologises. "I just wanted to say hi to Enid and maybe hangout."

"Uhm…hey Wyatt," Enid turns to him, scratching her neck. "What are you doing here? I already saw you just now."

He smiles. "Well, I just wanted to see who you were meeting up with. I didn't expect it to be your girlfriend."

"Who Enid sees is none of your business," Wednesday replies curtly.

Wyatt ignores Wednesday and instead, slides into the booth seat opposite the two girls. They already knew that Wyatt had never taken a hint in his life. Despite numerous failed attempts at courting Enid, he still perseveres without fail. It was as though he had to date Enid like his life depended on it.

Wednesday was still scowling at the boy.

"So…Enid!" Wyatt grins. "What are you doing at the Weathervane with Wednesday?"

"We're on a date," Enid quips, coming up with a lie. "I've been quite busy with school work lately, so today's finally a day where me and Wednesday can spend time together."

"Oh, cool. Did you have anything else planned?"

"Do you mind leaving us alone? We are busy." Wednesday mentions.

"I'm sure Enid doesn't mind that I'm here," Wyatt shrugs, turning to face Enid. "Besides, they do always say the more the merrier."

"Right Enid?" He adds, when he is only met with silence.

"To be honest, I'd rather you leave us alone. I'm just trying to spend time with Wednesday," The werewolf says, draping an arm over Wednesday's shoulder.

"You have your answer, now leave us be," Wednesday mutters.

"Fine," Wyatt stops. "I'm going on a walk around Jericho. I'll ask again. Do you want to join, Enid?"

"Uhm…I'd rather not," Enid admitted. "I've already made plans with Wednesday and I'm not going to ditch her."

"Come on," Wyatt, still as insistent as ever, slides his hand over Enid's. "I'm sure we can have more fun together. There isn't even anything to do in this coffee shop."

Enid remains quiet.

"Do you make it a habit to make plans in front of other people?" Wednesday immediately yanks the werewolf's hand away from Wyatt's touch. "Enid has already informed you that she does not want to join you in your little outings."

"So? I'm just shooting my shot since I think that I'm a better candidate for Enid." Wyatt smirks, looking at the items on the table. "Besides, I don't think she cares about some lousy book."

Wednesday couldn't tolerate Wyatt's outrageous behaviour anymore. She felt that same anger during her talk with the boy after the party. She reaches for one of her knives, pulling it out. "As I have said before, who Enid sees is none of your business."

"Your little knives don't scare me." Wyatt states. "I'm doing you guys no harm. I just want to ask Enid if she wants to hangout with me? What's wrong with that?"

He starts to raise his voice."Also, why would she want to hangout with someone like yo—"

"Enough!" That additional sentence makes Enid snap.

The two bickering students turn to face the shout. Enid, with her claws extended, continues. "Can you two stop fighting like children? Wyatt, I've already told you that I don't feel like hanging out with you. I'm quite content with staying with Wednesday. I don't understand why you're so persistent."

"And Wednesday! What did I tell you about your knives? You can't resort to violence for everything." She adds.

"I apologise, Enid." Wednesday puts away the knife, looking down as though ashamed.

"Me too…" Wyatt frowns.. "I'll leave you alone with Wednesday then."

He slides out of the booth seat, standing up. "See you later?"

Enid nods and Wyatt walks away with a tail between his legs. Enid heaves a sigh of relief once he was gone.

"Thanks again for covering me Wednesday."

"It was nothing." Wednesday says. "Why can't you be more stern with him? I'm sure your claws could do just fine at getting the message across."

"Yeah, but I don't want him to hate me. If he does, then the other times we meet up to do our project will be awkward. He might even screw me over!" Enid sighs. "But…I guess that's my last resort once our project ends."

Right.

"That reminds me, for how long more are you required to meet with the boy?" Wednesday carries on.

"Hmm," Enid thinks about it for a moment. "We have to hand it in next Thursday, so about a week?"

Oh. Enid's plan had already been going on for a week. There was only another left, before things would inevitably go back to the way things were before, where Enid and Wednesday were just best friends, nothing more. Wednesday's heart hurts a little at this thought. She needed to accept this fact.

Silence returns.

"Hey Willa…"

Wednesday turns to face Enid. "What did you just call me?"

"Willa. It's a new nickname I thought of for you!" Enid explains. "Do you like it?"

She thinks for a moment before answering. "I'll allow it."

"Yay!" Enid beams. "Anyways, do you want me to leave you alone? I can leave now since Wyatt's gone."

"I do not mind your company. Stay here if you wish."

"Sure! We can catch up on stuff." Enid smiles, hugging Wednesday from the side.

There was no use hiding from Enid after all.

Notes:

There was originally a later scene of Wednesday, Enid, Yoko and Divina eating lunch together but I cut it out since it was rather sudden and I didn't like how it was going.

Kudos and comments on how I can improve /suggestions are appreciated.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter and have a great day! ඞ

Chapter 6: Small Little Crisis

Summary:

Wednesday decides to do some research on her feelings by seeking help

They were probably the worst people she could've asked.

Notes:

Hi I'm back. Chapter may be a bit rushed cause I've been tired all week due to school starting again. Classes start next week so I'm gonna be even more tired and may not have time to write. This school year is very important for me cause of national exams so I'll be very busy in the later months. 😭

Since this was rushed, I'm too lazy to check grammar and what not so hopefully it's not too bad. I'll edit it in the morning or something.

Hope you enjoy reading!

PS: Do y'all want some angst in this fic? I have an idea but I'm not sure if it is wanted. Do let me know in the comments

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"How's things going with you and your girlfriend?"

"Wednesday isn't my girlfriend."

"I didn't mention Addams at all."

"Whatever," Enid rolls her eyes at the vampire. Not this again. "But since you're asking, things are going great! We got over our misunderstanding from last time."

Enid was currently sitting across from Yoko and Divina at their usual table during their break. She had invited Wednesday to join in, but apparently she had some 'plans' to attend to. Hopefully those plans did not involve blood or other morbid things Enid didn't want to think about. The three were going about their usual chatter.

"That's good then," the siren speaks up. "Speaking of, where's Wednesday?"

"Yeah!" Yoko chimes in. "You two are practically joint at the hip."

"She had something to do I guess," the werewolf shrugs. "I'll probably see her later though."

Yoko and Divina look at each other before nodding their heads in silent agreement.

"So…" Yoko turns back to look at Enid. "You're sure you don't have real feelings for Addams and that your fake dating idea isn't actually real?"

"Come on, I already told you multiple times Wednesday and I aren't dating!" The werewolf exclaims annoyed. "I now know that idea was dumb but it'll be over soon."

Divina scratches the back of her neck. How would they possibly get through to this girl? Why was she so oblivious?!

"Well, you two would actually make a good couple. Respectfully, she's way better than the other guys you've liked," Divina now speaks in turn. "Don't say you haven't thought about what it would be like to be Wednesday's girlfriend?

Girlfriend. For some reason the word rings in Enid's head. She feels her face slightly heat up.

Impossible! She was definitely straight as previously discussed. Besides, Wednesday didn't seem to be interested in relationships at all. The only things that excited her were probably things that Enid would faint at the sight of. Like that murder board her roommate had made. She shudders at the thought of it.

There was no way she actually liked Wednesday like that. Right?

"Nope," She shakes her thoughts away, saying with a straight face. "I have not. We're just friends."

"If you say so," Divina smirks, noticing the slight hint of red on her friend's face.

"Hey," Yoko suddenly lets out a laugh. "Look who it is!"

Enid turns around, only to notice her grim roommate, clad in her usual black and white uniform, walking straight towards their table. When she reaches the table, she plops down, taking a seat beside Enid.

"Willa!" Enid beams. "What're you doing here? I thought you were busy."

"It has been delayed," Wednesday replies with her normal stoic expression. "Eugene had some matters to attend to, so we are meeting at a later time."

"Well why'd you come here then? I thought you didn't really like sitting with us."

"I thought you wouldn't mind the company," the psychic says. "Besides, that moron might appear to pester you."

Enid grins. "Aw, that's so sweet of you."

"Wait a minute," Yoko interjects. "What the hell is 'Willa'?"

"Oh! It's a new nickname I came up with for Wednesday," the werewolf perks up.

Yoko and Divina give each other the look again. "Can I call you that, Addams?"

"Absolutely not," Wednesday spits out.

"Well, I guess we know you have a favourite," Yoko mutters under her breath.

Enid turns to face Yoko and Divina. "It's fine for Wednesday to stay here right?"

"Yeah, it's totally fine!" Divina nods. "At least now you won't be a third wheel."

"It's kind of like a double date now isn't it?" Yoko giggles.

"Enid and I are not in a relationship," Wednesday looks at the vampire.

"Wait, Wednesday," Enid asks next. "You knew about Yoko and Divina dating?"

"Was it not evident?"

Enid is baffled. "How am I the only one who didn't know!"

Yoko laughs again. "That's because you're way too oblivious, pup."

"Shut up," the werewolf pouts.

"Okay, okay," Divina slings an arm over Yoko's shoulder. "You two better not start fighting again. Let's talk about something else, shall we?"

The vampire and the werewolf nod.

"Feel free to indulge in your own conversations," Wednesday now pulls out a book from her bag. "Just keep it at an adequate volume."

The three friends continue with their conversations, laughing at times. Wednesday, on the other hand, was focused on her book like usual. Though, a sudden question pierces through the words of her book.

"Hey Addams," Yoko calls out. "I have a question."

Wednesday pauses from her reading.

"Is Enid a good kisser?"

Wednesday looks up from her book. She feels her cheeks and the tips of her ears warm as blood rushes to them. Her heart practically skips a beat at the question, as memories of kissing Enid start to creep back into her mind.

The psychic slams her book shut of all sudden, and stands up from her seat beside Enid.

"I—" Wednesday places her book back in her bag. "Excuse me, I believe it's about time I find Eugene."

She walks away briskly, different from her typical composed behaviour. As Wednesday scampers away, she could faintly hear Enid's voice.

"Yoko!" Enid reaches out to lightly hit the vampire's shoulder. "Why'd you scare Wednesday away!"

"It was just a random question," Yoko shrugs it off. "I didn't think she would react like that."

"Well, she's gone now," Enid pouts yet again.

Yoko and Divina glance at each other yet again, smirking. There was definitely something up with Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Wednesday hoped that Eugene wouldn't mind her punctuality.

—————

THUMP. THUMP. THUMP.

Soft groans could be heard in the dorm room. Someone's pounding on the door made the two girls flinch. Yoko pulls away, reluctantly.

"Who do you think that is?"

"I don't know," Divina shrugs. "But I'm sure they'll go away soon if we just ignore them."

The siren smiles, leaning closer towards her girlfriend again. Yoko grins back, pulling her back in by the waist into a kiss.

THUMP. THUMP. THUMP.

The insistent banging on the door interrupts them again.

"Should I just go get the door?" Yoko suggests. "They kinda sound like they're gonna break my door down."

"Fine…" Divina groans. "Just come back quick."

Yoko gets up and places a kiss on Divina's forehead. "Don't worry, I'll just chase them away."

THUMP. THUMP. THUMP.

She quickly yanks the door open, only to reveal someone she definitely didn't expect.

It was Wednesday.

"Addams? What're you doing here?"

"Enid goes to you for advice," the shorter girl states.

"I guess?" Yoko scratches her neck confused. "Enid's not here though."

Wednesday keeps quiet.

Noticing the silence, Yoko begins again. "I'm kind of busy right now. How about you come back here another time?"

The vampire starts to pull the door close but Wednesday grabs onto it, looking at Yoko.

"I…require assistance now."

Yoko has a sudden realisation. "Is this even about Enid at all?"

Wednesday shakes her head slightly, not saying anything.

"Fine," Yoko opens the door wider to let Wednesday in. "Divina's here too though."

"I gathered," she states. "I could practically hear the two of you sucking each other's faces off behind the door."

Yoko blushes slightly, stepping aside to let the shorter girl in.

"What is Wednesday doing here?" Divina asks, still on Yoko's bed when the two walk back in.

"Apparently she needs help with something?" Yoko flops onto the bed beside Divina.

"Correct."

"About what though?" Divina asks again.

Yoko taps on the edge of her bed, motioning for Wednesday to sit down. She hesitates slightly, but ends up doing so.

"How did you know you had romantic feelings for one another?" Wednesday states bluntly.

"Did you come here just to ask about our relationship?" Yoko raises an eyebrow.

"No, idiot!" Divina exclaims, looking at Yoko. "It's finally happening!"

"Oh my god!" Yoko's eyes widened, understanding what Divina meant. "It's actually happening!"

Yoko faces Wednesday, before shouting. "You like Enid!?"

"Are you attempting to make fun of me? Should I take my leave?" Wednesday glares, angry at the reaction of the couple.

"Okay, okay! We won't make fun of you, " Yoko gives a small smile in an attempt to comfort the girl. “Just tell us what you need help with."

"I don't…" Wednesday's intimidating expression quickly crumbles. “I am unsure of… what I am feeling."

It made complete sense that Wednesday was bad at feelings. The psychic wasn't exactly normal like other people. She didn't express her emotions much, never smiling nor blinking either. Somehow violence was one of the few things that made her show emotions. Romantic feelings, or at least what Yoko assumed, were indeed new territory for the girl and she needed all the help she could get.

“How about this,” Divina suggests. “Why don't you describe to us what this 'feeling’ is?”

Wednesday pauses for a moment before explaining. “At times I feel as though my heart skips a beat. My face warms up at the thought of being near her. In addition, I sometimes experience a weird sensation in my abdomen.”

“Yeah, you definitely have a crush on Enid,” Yoko smirks when Wednesday scowls at her. “What you're feeling is probably a romantic attraction towards Enid.

“Yup!” Divina chimes in. “I felt the same way before Yoko and I started dating. I would always want to be around her but yet feel nervous around her.”

Surprisingly, the two girls were giving Wednesday useful information.

“I see,” Wednesday nods. “What does this mean then?”

“Basically, you like Enid in a romantic way.”

“I…like Enid.” Wednesday repeats.

“Took you long enough.”

She liked Enid. Not platonically, but romantically. For some odd reason, it felt…good to admit that she had romantic feelings for her roommate. It was as though a weight had been lifted off her chest. She blushes slightly.

“Do you have more questions you need answered then?” Yoko interrupts her train of thought. “Or are you having gay thoughts right now cause you are looking a bit red.”

Wednesday frowns at the tease. “What do I do now?”

“Well what do you think you need to do?”

“Put a bullet through my head,” the psychic deadpans.

“Damn, no need to be so dramatic,” Yoko rolls her eyes.

Divina then says. “You need to confess to Enid so you two can finally get together instead of fake dating.”

Wednesday pauses to think. “Enid is heterosexual.”

“Yeah, Enid is kinda oblivious,” the couple bursts out laughing. “Maybe its because of her nightmare of a mother but trust us when we say that Enid is most definitely not straight.”

“How do you know that Enid is a homosexual? She says otherwise.”

“Be for real right now,” Yoko exclaims. “I'm pretty sure it's totally not straight to kiss your 'roommate and best friend’ on the lips.”

“As of right now, Enid claims that she is heterosexual. There is no possibility where I can disclose my feelings.”

“Well, there is something you can do now that you've recognised these feelings,” Divina points out. “It’s completely normal to have a crush. You shouldn't bottle your feelings up deep inside your little black heart. There's a chance Enid might actually like you back!”

“We've actually been trying to help Enid get her gay awakening! It'll happen eventually and then you two can date and become a power couple!”

Wednesday stares blankly at the two girls.

“Hey, how about this,” Yoko sighs. “If you ever need questions like these answered, just come to us. I know it took a lot of effort for you to trust us with this but just know, we'll help you out with matters like this no matter what.”

“I appreciate your assistance with my questions,” Wednesday murmurs.

“Aww, are you finally warming up to us Addams?” Yoko coos.

“Keep dreaming Tanaka,” Wednesday goes back to her usual glare. “I had limited options.”

“Fair enough.”

“Anyways,” Divina interjects. “Just don't ask us about it too early in the mornings or late at night. We have classes and I need my rest.”

Wednesday nods.

“Okay, now that that's settled,” the vampire clears her throat. “Can you please get out now so I can continue making out with my girlfriend?”

“Yoko!” Divina shouts.

“That was something I'd rather not know about,” Wednesday stares. “I'll take my leave then.”

The psychic hops of the bed, before walking out the door and shutting it.

“Well that was a side of Wednesday I've never expected to see.”

“Yeah! Who knew her little gay crisis would be that cute.”

“We need to make this ship sail,” Divina mumbles, moving in to pull Yoko by her waist.

“Obviously, I will die with this ship.”

“Noo don't die, I'll be lonely!”

The two girls giggle before leaning into a short kiss.

They were definitely Wednesday and Enid's biggest shippers and it was indeed worth being interrupted.

Notes:

Yoko and Divina are Wenclairs biggest shippers okay. Kudos and comments for suggestions/ways to improve are appreciated as always.

Not too sure when next chapter will be out and what it'll be about but I'll see! I hope I'll finish this fic one day!

Thank you for being so patient between chapters. I hope you enjoyed this chapter and have a great day!

Chapter 7: Through the Halls (and my Mind)

Summary:

Wednesday learns more things from Yoko and Divina.

Enid and Wednesday also find themselves running through the halls of their school.

Notes:

First of all, I'm sorry for the late/slow updates 😭. I'm a procrastinator so with school and homework, this fic is the last thing on my mind.

I can't promise when the next chapter will be, but I'm currently writing the next chapter.

Some stuff in this chapter may be inaccurate, I did some googling but not exactly an extensive one.

Anyways, have fun reading!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"I think I'm a homosexual."

"Girl, you think? I thought you already figured it out last night."

"Well, I deciphered certain feelings but not my sexual orientation."

Yoko sighs, looking at the black-clad psychic across from them.

Divina pats Yoko on the shoulder before asking Wednesday. "So are you a 'homosexual' as you put it?"

Wednesday stays silent for a few moments, before replying in a hushed voice. "I am attracted to Enid so that would make me one. However, I have also had attraction towards the other biological sex. Would that also make me heterosexual?"

"We really need to teach you about the queer community," Yoko sighs even louder this time.

"I'm not understanding."

"Wednesday. You can like guys and girls. That's totally fine. It's called bisexuality. Simply put, you're attracted to both men and women," Divina butts in.

Wednesday nods. "Do I refer to myself as 'Bisexual' then?"

"To be honest, you don't have to label yourself. You can just be your weird little spooky self."

The psychic furrows her brows at the last sentence.

"Yeah! Many people are unlabelled or just don't see the point in conforming to a specific label. Sometimes, they see it as restricting or something."

"I see," Wednesday nods again. "What about Enid? According to the both of you, she is not heterosexual despite her constant claims."

"She's kind of a tough nut to crack," the vampire scratches her neck. "I'm not sure if it's comp-het or what but her mother is definitely one of the reasons Enid thinks she's straight."

Divina begins to explain. "Enid's mother has always wanted her to find a 'perfect mate', so obviously that mate would need to be a guy. And her mom is already quite strict with Enid since she was a late bloomer. I'm sure you know what happened last year during Parent's weekend. Her mother was pretty disappointed that Enid hadn't wolfed out yet. I think things are better now that she's wolfed out but her mother is getting pretty insistent on the whole mate thing and Enid doesn't want to disappoint her further."

Wednesday didn't know how she never connected the dots about Enid's rocky relationship with her mother, she balls her fists, angry at the thought of Enid's own mother not caring for her. She suddenly says, "Do you think Enid would appreciate it if her mother disappeared?"

The couple's eyes widened at the question. "No! You are not going to murder her mother."

"I never mentioned anything about murder."

"We have got to remind Enid to frisk you for weapons," Yoko pinches the bridge of her nose, shaking her head.

"Go ahead. It'd be quite enjoyable so a win-win situation either way."

"I thought you guys were just fake dating, who knew you two would be this kinky," Yoko teases, bursting out into laughter, followed by Divina who also chuckles.

Red immediately envelops Wednesday's face.

"W-What absurd nonsense are you spitting out," the psychic sputters, flustered at the words.

"Who knew the Wednesday Addams could get so flustered!" Divina smirks, noticing the blush on the shorter girl's face.

Yoko somehow laughs even more. "We have got to take a picture of your face! This is like the most colourful you've ever been."

A thud is suddenly heard, when Wednesday reaches for something and slams her fist onto the table, clenching onto the item. "If you'd like this to be the last image you take, then feel free to do so."

She points her blade towards Yoko, now back to her usual annoyed expression, no longer red.

"Divina! Save me!" Yoko cowers behind the siren.

"Hell no! You're my girlfriend and all but I've got a life to live and you caused this mess in the first place. I ain't gonna die today! "

Yoko then turns to Wednesday, putting on her best smile. "Could you not point that at us, please? We've been helping you so I think you can spare us this once. Also, I don't think Enid would be very appreciative if you were the reason for our deaths."

"Very well then. I'm only doing this for Enid's sanity."

The two immediately heave a sigh of relief. "Thank god, I get to live another day."

"God won't save you when I act on my words."

"Damn chill out with the passive aggressiveness. I thought Enid would've softened you out a bit by now," Yoko says, still clinging on to Divina.

"I am not soft."

"Sure," Yoko replies smugly.

Wednesday only scowls at the vampire but doesn't threaten her again.

"Now that the near-death situation has been solved, do you have any other things you want to learn about?"

"How do I court Enid?" Wednesday whispers again, not wanting other students to hear.

"Huh. Straight to the point," Yoko says. "Well, you can trust us to help you with that!"

"What does your plan involve?"

"You'll need to wait until after your fake relationship ends, which I'm guessing is like next week?" Yoko waits for Wednesday to nod. "Once it ends, Enid, with the help of us, may realise that she misses being in a 'relationship' with you, and she'll finally have her gay awakening! Then once she figures it out, one of you has to confess."

"I can see who Enid gets her unique ideas from," Wednesday remarks.

"Hey! We're helping you okay?"

"Babe, how about you just calm down, we don't want another incident with the knife this fast again." Yoko shudders at the thought.

"Anyways, are you in or not?" Divina takes over.

"Fine," Wednesday retorts. "We shall go along with your plan. Though, I still can't comprehend why Enid trusts the both of yo—"

"Hey guys!"

A bubbly voice is heard. Wednesday turns to look around, while Yoko and Divina glance up towards the figure.

It was Enid.

Wednesday's heart practically beats out of her chest when she sees the girl, but the psychic manages to keep her composure.

"Enid! Hey! How are you?" Divina asks.

"I'm doing great," Enid grins. "I'm kinda surprised to see you two with Wednesday though."

"Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but we're replacing you," Yoko jokes.

"Aww, how could you?" Enid laughs along with the joke. "Anyways what were you guys talking about? I feel like I heard my name being mentioned."

"Oh we were jus—"

"We were just discussing which mediaeval torture methods inflicted the most pain."

"Oh. I thought you already decided that it was the one called 'Death by a Thousand Cuts' or something."

"Death by a thousand what now?" Yoko raises an eyebrow, confused by the turn in the conversation.

"Well, it's kinda similar to flaying. A knife would be used to cut the flesh from the victim's body over a long time. Wends thought it was the most painful cause it was a slow death since sometimes victims could survive up to a few days."

"Correct, but now I'm having second thoughts," Wednesday looks up at Enid, impressed.

"How do you know all this?!" Divina adds in horror.

"I've been teaching her," the psychic replies. "She's quite the quick learner to my surprise."

"Hey! I'm gonna ignore that last part," Enid crosses her arms, before resuming. "Thanks though! Who knew your lessons could be interesting."

"Wow, this is totally not weird at all," the vampire states. "Anyways, what are you doing here Enid?"

"I couldn't find Wednesday, so I wanted to ask you two if you had seen her," Enid walks over towards the table. "But turns out, she's here with you, so that saves me the trouble of walking around the entire school."

Hearing this, Wednesday asks. "Did you need something, Enid?"

"Oh, I just wanted to ask if you wanted to walk to class together since we're in the same one," Enid rests her hands on the table, still standing. "But if you're busy with your discussions then it's fine."

"No, she can walk with you!" Yoko shouts out immediately. "We were just about done anyway."

"Yeah, Yoko and I need to go somewhere anyways," Divina chimes in.

"I suppose I can walk with you," Wednesday shoots the two girls a quick glare when she notices them snickering. "It would be my pleasure to do so."

"Great! Let's go then," Enid waits for Wednesday to grab her things and stand up. Enid waves goodbye to the couple before starting to stroll to the venue of their next class.

The past few days had been surprisingly peaceful. Enid had been up to her usual antics like posting on her blog or hanging out with Thing and her friends. Similarly, Wednesday had also been going about her days normally, with the exception of her acknowledgement of her newfound feelings. She could now mildly tolerate Yoko and Divina's presence, and she had to admit that they were useful. In addition, the two roommates had not stumbled into Wyatt around the school campus or in Jericho. Following Enid's mini outburst at the Weathervane, she had barely seen him. Enid only ever saw the boy when they met up to work on their project. But of course, the werewolf wouldn't complain about it; she was enthusiastic about it.

Maybe Wednesday was right after all. Enid should've resorted to violence in the first place. Her roommate was definitely rubbing off on her.

The two girls continue to stroll, making some small talk while walking around the campus to their class. The hallways were quite empty, with a few students here and there.

"Hey, Enid!" A familiar voice pierces through the air, which Enid immediately registers as Wyatt's.

"Oh come on! Why is he suddenly here?" The werewolf frantically whispers.

"He is a pest after all."

"Should we just ignore him?"

"Yes. Continue walking, we'll be safe once we make it to class."

Enid grabs onto Wednesday's hand and the psychic's breath hitches.

The two pick up the pace, ignoring Wyatt's calls as they walk around the confusing maze they have for a school.

Why did their school have to be so big?

But of course, Enid gets the bad end of the stick, and Wyatt catches up to them.

He taps her on the shoulder, a bit out of breath. "Hi, Enid! Did you not hear me calling you? You walk fast."

"I'm here too," Wednesday deadpans.

"Where are you rushing off to?" He asks while facing Enid, paying no attention to the psychic.

"Oh, uhm. Me and Wednesday were just headed to class," Enid lets go of Wednesday's hand and can't help but miss the touch.

"Really? It's still quite early though."

"Yeah, but Wednesday likes to be punctual. I guess you can say she's starting to rub off on me," Enid jokes awkwardly, hoping Wyatt would go away.

"Ah, I see," he states. "Well since it's still early, how about I walk you to class?"

"Oh no, it's fine! You aren't even in this class anyways and I don't want to be a bother," Enid comes up with her usual excuses which absolutely fail at deterring Wyatt.

"Oh, you wouldn't be a bother at all!" the clueless boy smiles. "Don't worry, I walk fast."

Before Enid could answer, Wednesday takes over.

"It is quite alright. As Enid's…" she gulps, "girlfriend, I am more than qualified to walk her to class."

"We must be going now," Wednesday then grabs the werewolf's wrist, and the two scramble away from Wyatt.

"Hey, Enid! Wait up!"

Enid takes a look behind and spots Wyatt right on the chase.

"Where the hell is the classroom?" She exclaims in frustration as the two continue swerving around the other students. Meanwhile, Wyatt continues to call out for Enid.

Just as they spot the door to their next class a few feet away, rushing towards it, they are suddenly stopped when a hand grips onto Enid's wrist.

"Hey, why'd you leave so quick?" The boy asks concerned. "Did I do something wrong!"

"No, of course, you didn't do anything wrong!" Enid is quick to calm Wyatt down.

"I highly doubt that," Wednesday mutters under her breath, glaring at Wyatt's grip on the werewolf's wrist.

"We just wanted to reach class on time and I really didn't need you to walk me there when I have Wednesday," Enid continues.

"Well okay then. Do you still want me to walk you to the door though? I'm here already anyways.”

"No, no! It's fine. It's practically right there anyways."

"Alright then. See you after classes!" Wyatt beams, waving goodbye to Enid, finally leaving the two alone.

"Thank God he's gone," the werewolf sighs.

"You know, if you would like, I could ensure that he's gone for good."

"Wednesday. You are not going to murder him."

"What's with all of you suggesting that I would commit a murder?" Wednesday frowns.

"It's because 'we' know you well," Enid rolls her eyes and pulls open the door once they reach the class.

"I suppose I do have a reputation."

"Yeah, you do. A great one in fact."

—————

"Enid!" The boy grins from ear to ear.

"Wyatt? You're here early," Enid walks over to him, placing down her bag and books. "Did you wait long?"

"No, I only just arrived," he ushers for the werewolf to sit down. "Besides, I wouldn't mind waiting an eternity for you."

Enid can't help but cringe internally at the horrible attempt of a pickup line.

"So did you do your part of the work?"

"Yeah!" He replies enthusiastically.

The two go about their usual back-and-forth discussions on the project and the parts they needed to workshop. Time goes by quickly as they make the final touches on their work.

Satisfied, Enid exclaims. "And… I think that's about it! We finished it early too!"

Finishing it earlier than the deadline meant that Enid wouldn't have to meet up with Wyatt anymore. So she was definitely happy that it was over.

"Yup, great job!"

"Okay, I'm gonna go then. I've got some other homework to complete," the werewolf states, wanting to return to her dorm.

"Oh…okay then," Wyatt seems dejected.

Enid quickly packs her stuff, standing up.

"Oh right! Hey Enid, are your parents coming to school for Parents Weekend?" Wyatt says out of the blue.

The school had its yearly tradition of hosting 'Parents Weekend', where parents of students could come to the school to catch up with their children and ask about school and stuff. However, this year it was during the school week due to the previous dates clashing with some other school events.

Enid had practically forgotten about it. She didn't even know if her parents, specifically her mother, would even bother to come. To be honest, Enid didn't want to face her mother at all.

"Uhm, I'm not sure. But they probably will since my brothers are also here."

"Nice," he simply says. "By the way, do your parents know that you're dating Wednesday?"

Shit. That was another problem. Her mother would definitely be unhappy, to say the least, if she knew or at least 'assumed' that her own daughter was dating a girl. Well, 'fake dating' but Wyatt didn't need to know that.

She had two options. To say that her parents knew about Wednesday or that they had no clue of their so-called 'relationship'.

She went with option two.

Leaning closer to Wyatt, she whispers. "Hey, can you keep a secret?" He nods. "They don't know about Wednesday. If you ever see them, could you just keep that secret between us please?"

"You can do that for me right?" She adds, putting on her best charm.

"Y-Yeah of course! Anything!"

"Thank you. I know I can rely on you," she smiles.

"Bye then! See you next time," she waves, slinging her bag over her shoulder before walking away.

Shit. Shit. Shit. Parents Day or Weekend or basically whatever the hell the school wanted to call it was in 2 days.

Enid didn't know what she dreaded more. Facing her nightmare of a mother that would only see Enid as a disappointment, or ensuring Wyatt would keep quiet if he ever encountered her parents.

Enid was screwed.

Chapter 8: Your Warm Embrace

Summary:

Parents Day arrives.

Notes:

Back with another chapter this week! It's longer than the usual ones so I hope you'll enjoy it.

The parents may be out of character cause I don't really know how to write them.
Hopefully it's not too bad.

Also, there is homophobia in this chapter. So if you're not okay with that, then feel free to skip!

Anyways, as usual, have fun reading!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Enid loved talking. It was one of the many things she could do all day long, without a break.

She talked about a variety of things; makeup, gossip, songs; whatever she liked, she would talk about it, bursting out into a whole monologue. Though Wednesday wasn't that interested in all of those things, she enjoyed listening to the werewolf.

Whenever her roommate talked about topics that interested her, she would get excited, smiling even bigger than usual.

Maybe seeing Enid happy was what Wednesday enjoyed about her talks. She couldn't help but feel slightly disgusted at herself for being happy at something so minimal.

But today was not one of those days.

Enid was as quiet as a mouse, not making a peep during Wednesday's writing time. It was what they had agreed on after all.

The only difference that night was Enid's eyes boring into the back of the psychic's head. It was distracting, to say the least.

Wednesday glances over to the clock, noting that one hour has passed. She stopped typing, spinning around to face Enid on her side of the room.

“Something's bothering you.”

“W-What? No! Nothing's bothering me.”

“You've been staring at me for the past hour. What is bothering you? Spit it out.”

“Fine!” Enid exhales before taking a deep breath. “Parents Weekend is tomorrow.”

“It is Monday tomorrow,” Wednesday states. “In case you didn't know, Monday isn't part of the weekend.”

“I obviously know that!” Enid exclaims. “It's just that…my parents are gonna be there.”

Right. Wednesday remembers what Yoko and Divina had told her about Enid's familial situation. Although she hadn't been there to see it for herself last year, considering that she was preventing her father's arrest, it still did not sound good.

“I'm sorry. I heard about your family, specifically about your mother, from Yoko and Divina,” Wednesday lowers her head.

“Wait since when were you guys on a first-name basis?” Enid asks, surprised with this development. “Also, why were you three even talking about me?”

Wednesday ignores the first question and instead, answers the second. “You were practically the only thing I had in common with those two.”

“At least you're getting along now,” Enid smiles. “But back to my crisis here, my parents are coming. My mother is coming. Tomorrow.”

“I’m assuming they were not the slightest bit happy when you ended relations with Petropelus.”

“Yeah, that's one problem. I haven't told them yet,” Enid confesses. “I don't really talk to my mother, and I haven't really told her this since she's obsessed with finding me a mate. I also only call or text my father every now and then…”

“I understand,” Wednesday stands up, to stretch her limbs that had grown numb in the duration of her writing time. “I wouldn't mind helping you solve the problem concerning your mother.”

“Wait really? How would you do that?” Enid questions but suddenly realised Wednesday's implications. “Wait a minute, you are not going to murder my mother!”

“What a shame,” Wednesday shakes her head. “Besides, I wasn't insinuating murder. I was simply considering having a talk with her. She'll still be alive once it's over, maybe a little shaken.”

Geez, I don't know how I'm not fazed by the things you say at this point,” Enid shivers, noticing a slight smirk on the psychic's face. “But let me repeat myself. Although I kinda hate my mother, you are not to lay a hand on her.”

“Is that supposed to be a threat? You can do better.”

“I'll uhm… I'll confiscate your typewriter!”

“You wouldn't,” Wednesday feigns a gasp.

“Try me, Addams.”

“Fine. Your mother will not be harmed,” Wednesday huffs, the corner of her mouth tilting ever so slightly. “You're learning.”

“Yep, from the best after all.”

Enid also smiles, but it soon fades away. She rolls around on her bed.

“So… are your parents coming tomorrow?”

“I suppose they are, but they might be busy,” Wednesday shrugs. “It was something regarding a building burning down? Maybe a manic arsonist on the run? Or was it a bomb? Perhaps I misheard them over the call. I couldn't really hear them over the screams.”

“To be honest, I'd much rather they not show up, I can't stand their overly affectionate behaviour. Even hormonal teenagers have more self-control than those two,” Wednesday adds.

“Am I just meant to ignore the first part of what you said? What the hell do you mean by a burning building? How are you so nonchalant about it?” Enid mumbles, horrified.

“There is no reason to worry. Addamses have thick skin. It's just another usual weekend for them.”

“I’m kind of concerned. But at least I now know how you're still alive after 16 years.”

“Despite my family's 'flaws’, I much prefer them to your parents,” Wednesday states, regretting it as soon as she sees the hurt expression on Enid's face. “I’m sorry. I have a strong dislike for your mother. It is a shame that they are arriving tomorrow.”

“Whelp, you and me both,” Enid sighs. “I'd actually prefer your murderous family. They genuinely care about you, and they definitely aren't the type to pester me about finding a mate, or talk about my scars.”

“I can't wait for my mother to call me a disappointment again.”

Wednesday stays silent for a moment, before giving a suggestion. “Would you like me to be there?”

Enid changes positions on her bed, flopping down onto her pillows. “Is this another ploy to get your hands on my mother? What did I say would happen?”

“I know, Enid,” Wednesday shakes her head, walking over to Enid's bed. “I will not let a single one of my fingers touch her, but I can send the message across other ways.”

“Threats are off limits also!”

“You'll never let me do anything will you?” Wednesday questions and Enid shakes her head. “I can't help but dislike those who don't take kindly to the people I care about.”

Wednesday cared for her?

Hearing those words somehow makes Enid's heart flutter.

Wednesday places herself on the edge of Enid's bed.“Bloodshed is thrilling. The school lacks anything exciting. Perhaps you could retract your previous statements regarding your m—”

A pillow hits Wednesday right in the face and cuts her off.

“Nope!” Enid laughs. “Don't you have to catch up with your family though? You can't possibly stay by my side the whole time.”

“I'm positive they wouldn't mind. They'd enjoy the privacy,” Wednesday hums. “If they do arrive tomorrow, I'll spend some time with them then. I'll only step in when you seem to need it.”

Enid thinks about it, considering Wednesday's offer.

“Alright,” Enid says. “As long as I can make sure you don't bring any of your knives.”

“Did Yoko give you that idea?” Wednesday furrows her brows, at the thought of the vampire.

“Yeah! How'd you know?” Enid replies. “So, can I frisk you or not?”

“I consent. The pleasure is all mine.”

Enid laughs again, her mood starting to lift. "There's another slight problem though."

"Well, you better spit it out before you combust again."

"I told Wyatt that my parents don't know that we're 'dating'. I told him to keep it a secret though," Enid admits.

"Well then. I'm most positive that numbskull will obey your orders or practically anything you ask him to do," Wednesday hesitates but decides to place her hand over Enid's, in an attempt to console her. "If it makes you feel better, Thing could keep a lookout."

Thing proceeds to appear out of thin air, to crawl up Enid's bed, and gives a thumbs up.

"Thanks, you two," Enid doesn't reject the touch. "You're getting better at comforting people. Are you finally going soft on me Addams?"

"In your dreams, Sinclair."

Enid giggles again. Maybe today wouldn't be so bad after all.

—————

Enid was definitely wrong.

The quad is packed when the two girls arrive. It was bustling with parents and students, who were either chatting and catching up or grabbing food at the complimentary buffet.

Wednesday scans the area, noticing her parents in the corner, away from the crowd.

She remains beside Enid, who was currently a sweaty mess.

"If only this was a dream," Enid starts to pace around, despite the numerous people around them. "I want to die."

"Calm down," Wednesday doesn't move. "My parents are here, so I will not be able to accompany you all the way."

"I can't face my mother. Not now. I haven't mentally prepared myself enough for this."

"All you need to do is be with them for a while. When even the slightest bit of trouble occurs, Thing will notify me."

Thing then proceeds to hop onto Wednesday's shoulder from her bag.

You can do this Enid! He signs out.

"Okay. Okay. I can definitely do this," Enid takes a few deep breaths, finally relaxing. "I can do this."

"You can," Wednesday states. "Are you prepared now?"

"Yeah, I think so."

"Go on then," Wednesday gestures, and the werewolf starts to walk over to her parents, on the opposite side of the quad.

"Follow her and stay hidden. If that idiot appears or if Enid's parents agitate her, notify me immediately," she whispers to the hand.

Thing gives his usual thumbs up, before scrambling away.

With Enid and Thing gone, Wednesday now has to face her parents. She walks over to the couple, who were currently indulging in their daily public displays of affection.

Wednesday cringes at the sight.

"I'm here."

The two turn to notice their daughter in front of them.

"Ah! My little storm cloud! How are you?" Gomez smiles when he sees Wednesday.

"Terrible as usual," Wednesday remains expressionless. "I assumed you had some matters to attend to."

"Well, we managed to put the fire out. So, we decided to visit our daughter now that your father isn't a wanted criminal in Jericho anymore."

"How has school been? Any more murders happening? " Gomez asks, changing the topic.

"Lessons have been going on as usual. Nothing special has occurred lately to my dissatisfaction."

Her parents nod, continuing to smile.

"What about your roommate?" Morticia asks. "Enid Sinclair, was it? How has she been?"

"Enid is fine," Wednesday looks behind her to spot Enid in the distance, finally at the table with her parents. She smiles slightly at the thought of the werewolf. "She's a… tolerable roommate."

"I can see the look in your eyes," Gomez suddenly says, turning to face Morticia. "Our little scorpion is in love!"

"N-Nonsense!" Wednesday sputters, unsure how her parents found out. "You must be mistaken."

"I may be old, but I can recognise the look in your eyes anywhere. You're head over heels for your little wolf roommate!"

"Your father's right, Wednesday. It was the same look he and I had when we first met each other," Morticia explains.

"I'll never forget that night mi vida," Gomez turns to Morticia and they share another passionate kiss.

"Could you two cut it out," Wednesday mutters, revolted by the sight.

"Why, this is a wonderful development! Does Enid know yet? Are you two already dating?" Morticia tries to pull Wednesday into a hug.

"No. She is unaware because I do not have anything to reveal to her," Wednesday steps back.

"You can lie all you want, mi tormenta. But just know, that we can tell," Gomez smirks.

"I regret coming here today," Wednesday glares at her parents. "I should've stayed with En—"

A tap on her ankle cuts Wednesday short.

She looks down, to find Thing signing frantically.

Wyatt is here. Wednesday manages to catch the sentence from Thing's panicked signing.

"That idiot!" Wednesday looks up, back to Enid's table, with a new addition.

She quickly turns back to her parents. "If you'll excuse me, I have something to take care of."

"Of course Wednesday, go save your werewolf."

—————

Walking away from Wednesday, Enid starts to head over to the table her parents were at.

They hadn't noticed her yet, so maybe she could still just turn on her heel, away from them, and hide in the dorms for the whole day.

No. She could do this. Well, probably at least. Wednesday and Thing had her back, and all she needed to do was just survive for the day.

She continues slowly making her way to the couple.

"Enid!" Her father stands up and waves at his daughter as Enid nears their table.

"Hey, Dad. Mom," Enid gives a shaky smile when she reaches their table.

"Ah, Enid. You're finally here," Esther says, gesturing for Enid to take a seat. "How have things been?"

"Fine, I guess."

"So, how are things between you and Ajax?"

"I have something to tell you," Enid pauses. "Ajax and I broke up because we decided we were better off as friends."

"Oh," Enid can't read the expression on her mother's face. "That's good then, I never liked that boy much anyway. He smelt like weed most of the time."

Well, that didn't go as bad as Enid thought. However, the moment is immediately ruined when her mother proceeds to say something else.

"Have you found any other options for mates?" Esther questions.

"No," Enid scratches her neck. "I'm not focused on finding one now."

"Enid," Esther sighs. "Don't you know how important this is? You can't just be a lone wolf forever."

"I know, okay! But my studies are more important right now, is there really anything wrong with that?"

"Did you not hear me? Can't you just do both at the same time?"

"You're coming home during the school break," noticing Enid's silence, Esther huffs. "I know the perfect boy who is a good candidate to be your mate."

"His name is Noah. He's charming, athletic and respectful," she pulls out a picture of the boy. "I'll set you up on a date with him."

Enid blinks, in disbelief of her mother's current behaviour. "Mom! You are not setting me up on a date!"

"Why not?" Esther demands.

"I don't even know the guy!"

"You never do anything right," Esther shouts. "Can't you just do this one simple thing? For your family?"

"Yeah, you've already told me a million times about how I'm such a disappointment."

"Don't use that tone with me!"

Murray clears his throat. "Is anyone hungry? How about we just stop and grab some food first."

"Fine," Esther stands up, walking over to the buffet.

Murray stands up, in turn. "Enid, are you coming?"

"Yeah."

Once she walks over to her father, he places a pat on her shoulder. "Don't let her get to you."

The two follow after Esther and start to fill up their plates.

Once back at the table, with their respectively filled plates, the family stays quiet.

Enid picks at her food, having lost her appetite. She doesn't dare look up to her mother's face.

Though, her head does turn when she hears a voice calling out to her.

"Enid!"

It was Wyatt, waltzing over to their table.

Shit. This could not have been the worst possible time for him to show up.

"Uhm… hey Wyatt."

"Enid? Care to introduce us to your friend?" Esther speaks up, intrigued.

"Hello, Mr and Mrs Sinclair! It's so nice to meet you!" He reaches out his hand towards them. "My name is Wyatt, and I'm Enid's boyfriend."

"Really?" Esther shakes his hand. "Enid, why didn't you introduce us to this polite young man?"

Enid's eyes widened at the last sentence. "Because he's not my boyfriend. He's just joking."

"Yeah, it was just a joke. Though, I do wish that Enid could be my girlfriend. She's such a fun person to be around," Wyatt invites himself, placing himself beside Enid.

"Oh? Enid, why don't you want to date him? You two are already friends and he's such a sweet boy."

"Because we're just working on a project together. I don't like him like that," Enid moves away from Wyatt.

"You flatter me, Mrs Sinclair," Wyatt laughs. "I would love to date your daughter, but she already has a girlfriend."

"Girlfriend? Surely you must mean a boyfriend?"

Enid wanted to kill herself right there and then. She decides to laugh it off, hoping for even the slightest chance that Wyatt would give up. "N-No! I'm single. Wyatt's such a jokester. He makes jokes all the time."

"Come on, Enid. No need to be shy," Wyatt, flashes a sly smile towards her. "Why don't you tell your parents about your girlfriend, Wednesday?"

"Wednesday? Isn't that your morbid roommate?" Esther asks, shocked. "Enid, is he telling the truth?"

"What? No! Me and Wednesday are just roommates. Plus, I'm straight, okay!"

"Enid Sinclair! Do not lie to me!" Esther says harshly. She turns to face Wyatt. "Tell me, are Enid and Wednesday actually dating?"

"Yeah! Enid herself told me about it," Wyatt pulls out his phone, swiping the screen. "In fact, I have proof of them dating."

"What the hell Wyatt! Get lost before I make you!" Enid's claws extend, trying to snatch away his phone.

"No! He is not leaving until he shows me his evidence," Esther slams her fists on the table, shooting Enid a glare.

"Here!" Wyatt exclaims, shoving his phone in front of Esther's face.

She snatches his phone before Enid can, eyebrows raising. "Enid, what is the meaning of this?" She proceeds to turn the phone around to show Enid the image. "Explain yourself!"

Enid's eyes widened. It was a photo of her and Wednesday kissing at what presumably seemed to be the party Wyatt had invited them to.

Shit. Wyatt was such a snake! He probably took that photo in secret during the truth or dare game. He had been setting them up this whole time.

"W-wait! I-I can explain!" Enid stutters in a panic. "It was just a dare! Just because we kissed doesn't mean we're dating!"

"Bullshit!" Somehow, her mother seems to get even angrier. "I knew there was something off about your roommate. Turns out, I was right, she's a lesbi—"

The phone is suddenly swiped from Esther's grasp.

"If you want to take pictures, at least get better shots," a voice says curtly.

They turn around only to see Wednesday, looking at the image on Wyatt's phone. A loud crack is heard when she suddenly throws said phone onto the ground, before stomping on it.

"Hey! That was my phone!"

"Apologies, my hand slipped," the psychic says sarcastically.

"W-Wednesday!" Enid looks up to see her roommate standing beside their table.

"You!" Esther slams the table again, standing herself up. "You're the one who turned my daughter gay! How dare you!"

"I'm not some magician who can turn people into homosexuals," Wednesday deadpans. "Might I add, I'm not sure how educated you are, but for your information, that isn't how sexual orientations work."

"I don't even know why you're here," Esther scoffs. "This was supposed to be a private conversation and you just decided to be part of it."

"Well, I guess that's something Wyatt and I have in common," Wednesday shoots a look towards him.

"Don't talk to Wednesday like that!" Enid huffs, standing up to place herself in front of Wednesday. "She didn't do anything okay! Plus, she's right! You can't just 'turn' people gay! That's not how it works!"

"It doesn't matter!" She points her finger towards Enid. "Listen here, young lady. You're going back to San Francisco, I'm sending you off to another school, and you will find a male mate whether you like it or not! There will be no room for negotiations!"

"I don't want to go back there! It was a nightmare staying with you during the school break," Enid seems to be on the verge of tears. "All you ever do is judge what I do with my life and call me a disappointment! But it's my life! I can do what I want!"

She takes a deep breath before continuing. "And what's so wrong about queer people! Why are you attacking Wednesday just because we kissed! I've already told you that we aren't dating!"

The situation was worse than what Wednesday had imagined. Sure, she knew that Enid's mother was a nightmare, but not this bad. She balls her fists in anger, rage slowly building up in her.

“Do you hear yourself?” Esther screams. “You can only have a male mate. Having a female one is practically the same as being a lone wolf! It's not normal!”

“You’ve already mentioned that about a million times,” Enid crosses her arms. “But the problem now is that you're believing some random student you just met! How do you know he doesn't have any ill intentions? Why are you trusting him instead of your own daughter!?”

“Hey, no need to be rude.”

“Shut it you imbecile,” Wednesday mutters.

“Because I can't even recognise you anymore! He's such a nice and polite young boy, why would he lie?” Esther admits. “But you. Why can't you be like him? All you ever do is disappoint me. You disappoint this whole family.”

Enid is used to such blows but there's a particular one that breaks her.

“You're no daughter of mine.”

And Enid laughs.

“Yeah, I know. I'm just one big disappointment. That's all I ever am to you, and nothing more,” Enid could feel the tears slowly run down her face. She brings her arm up to wipe them on her sleeve. “But since I'm not your daughter, then I guess I don't need to be here anymore.”

Enid storms away, tears still dripping down her face.

“Enid,” Wednesday tries to follow after the werewolf but a hand stops her from doing so.

“Stay away from her!” Esther starts to walk closer towards Wednesday. “You’ve practically brainwashed her! What do you have to say for yourself?”

“Esther, how about you just calm down,” Murray finally speaks up, placing a hand on her shoulder

“No, Murray! This is serious!” Esther pushes his hand off, facing Wednesday again. "This girl has manipulated Enid!"

The psychic keeps quiet while Esther continues to inch closer to her face. “I’m informing Principal Weeks of this situation. If Enid isn't going to leave, then I will request a dorm transfer immediately. You will never be in contact with Enid ever again and you will not interfere with her prospects of finding a male mate. She won't ever be caught dating someone like yo—”

Wednesday has had enough. She winds her arm back and punches Esther.

Right in the face.

"Holy shit!" Wyatt finally says, having watched the scene unfold.

Wednesday turns to him. "Would you like to be next? I'm sure Enid wouldn't mind."

Wyatt quietly shakes his head, slumping down on his seat.

Meanwhile, Esther stumbles back, with one hand clutching her nose. “You witch!”

“Esther!” Murray heads over to help his wife, who seemed to be bleeding.

People finally around notice the commotion and look to see what had happened.

“You flatter me,” Wednesday says. “If you'll excuse me, I'll be off to comfort Enid since you have decided to give up that role.”

Wednesday then walks away, leaving Enid's family, and Wyatt behind.

As she walks through the halls, Thing appears and climbs back onto her shoulder.

Was that really worth it? He signs out.

“Definitely.”

—————

When Wednesday reaches the dorms, she notices three things. Firstly, the door to their dorm room was ajar. Secondly, she could hear the muffled sounds of crying. Lastly, she could also spot Enid, face down on her colourful bed.

She pushes the door open before closing and locking it behind her.

“Enid?” Wednesday whispers. “Are you alright?”

“D-Do I look fine to you?” Enid pushes herself up from the bed to look at Wednesday. Her face was a mess. Her eyes were all red and puffed up, tears still coming out of them. She was sniffling persistently.

“No, you look like hell, and not in a good way,” Wednesday states.

“Thanks,” that manages to get a small chuckle out of the werewolf. “I guess I'm gonna be a lone wolf forever now that my mother has just decided to disown me."

“Don't say that,” Wednesday sits on the edge of Enid's bed. “You still have other people like Yoko, Divina and your father.”

“And you…” Wednesday gulps. “You also have me.”

“Yeah, but you guys aren't even werewolves,” Enid continues to rub at her eyes.

“I may not be an expert in lycanthropy but I do know that a pack doesn't have to be related by blood. It's the emotional ties that bind people together,” Wednesday says, in an attempt to console the crying girl. “But if all else fails, being a lone wolf has its perks.”

Enid giggled again, lightly nudging Wednesday again. “Are you using jokes to try and comfort me?”

“Is it not working?”

“No, it is. A bit at least.”

Silence returns to the room once again.

“Would you like me to fetch Yoko and Divina here? They would certainly do a better job at alleviating your feelings of sadness,” Wednesday tries to stand but she is held back by a strong grip.

“N-No! Just stay,” Enid says, barely above a whisper. “Stay with me.”

"Just for today," she adds, noticing Wednesday's hesitance.

She lets go of the psychic's hand and proceeds to stretch both arms out.

“Why are your arms outstretched?”

“Just come here.”

Wednesday raises an eyebrow. “I am only doing this because you are currently dejected.”

“Yeah, yeah. We all know you aren't soft, Addams.”

Wednesday crawls over to the empty space beside Enid. The werewolf then proceeds to wrap her arms around Wednesday, still sniffling. Wednesday awkwardly returns the motion.

“Thank you.”

“For what?”

“For being there for me, " Enid pulls Wednesday closer.

And Wednesday doesn't say anything.

A minute passes and not one of the girls has said a word.

"Are you done suffocating me?"

No reply is heard. Wednesday twists her head to look at Enid, only to find out that her eyes were currently closed.

She can't help but feel the corners of her lips lift while looking at her sleeping roommate.

"Have dreadful dreams, Enid."

Enid somehow hugs Wednesday even tighter, despite being asleep. The psychic closes her eyes, resting her head on the tear-stained pillow.

For the first time in her life, Wednesday didn't mind that familiar warm embrace at all.

Notes:

There will be a continuation next week probably!

Thanks for all the support on this fic. Although I may not reply to the comments, just know that I read every single one and I appreciate it!

While I was writing this, I didn't know how to add in Pugsley or Enid's brothers so I just wrote them out. Also, I completely forgot that Wednesday has a stalker so this fic probably won't include that unless I have an idea or yall want it.

Feel free to leave suggestions!

I hope you've enjoyed this next instalment, and have a great day ahead! 💐

Chapter 9: You're the Problem

Summary:

The aftermath of Parents' Day and an unexpected ending.

Notes:

Hi! Sorry for the short chapter in advance. This is more of a conclusion to chapter 8 since I have no idea what to do after this yet. I probably won't post next week since i have tests and that will most likely ruin my mood for the whole week.

Hope you enjoy this chapter!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"...I simply do not wish to wake her."

A series of taps follow.

"She's had a rough day. It was the least I could do."

The taps happen again.

"Shut it."

Enid slowly opens her eyes, squinting.

When she tries to bring her hand up to rub her swollen eyes, she then realises that her arms were around something.

"You're finally awake," A voice echoes beside her. "Would you mind unhanding me from your grasp?"

When Enid's vision clears, she sees her arms wrapped around a certain someone.

It was Wednesday, lying face up, unmoving in Enid's arms.

"Shit! Sorry!" Enid immediately apologises, withdrawing her arms. She rubs her eyes. "How long was I asleep?"

"It's not a big deal," Wednesday says. "You've been asleep for about 4 hours."

"4 hours?! What's the time now?" Enid asks, panicked. "Also, were you really stuck in my bed for that long?"

"It's about 7 pm right now," the psychic clarifies. "And no, you did not exactly trap me in your bed. I, too, fell asleep. I've only just woken up because of Thing."

Enid now sees Thing beside Wednesday's head. He waves a hello to her.

"But still, I'm sorry if it made you uncomfortable."

"Don't be. It was somewhat pleasurable."

"Wait, you liked it?" Enid is surprised. "We should do this more often then!"

Thinking about being in such close proximity with Enid makes Wednesday blush slightly. "I'll…consider it."

"Yay!" Enid finally gives her usual cheery smile, despite the events earlier today.

"I'm glad to see you back to your normal self," Wednesday admits. "It was certainly depressing being around you 4 hours ago."

"Yeah…" Enid scratches her neck. "Sorry, you had to see me like that."

"I'm quite used to your emotional outbursts by now," Wednesday replies. "Do you feel better?"

"I'm not really sure," Enid shrugs. "I knew something like that would happen eventually. I just didn't think that today would be the day."

“And no surprise it's because of Wyatt! He freaking caused all of this!" Enid suddenly sits up straighter. "Is it wrong of me to say I want him dead?"

"I could have that arranged."

"As much as I don't want to say this, you are not going to kill him! I don't want you to go to jail!" Enid exclaims. "But…if he does piss you off when I'm not around, then maybe I can condone some acts of violence."

Wednesday smirks at Enid's response.

“Thanks again for earlier. It really means a lot Wends.”

Wednesday nods attempting to get up from the bed, when Enid's phone emits a sound.

Enid grabs her phone, turning it on, before showing it to Wednesday.

Dad: Enid, are you all right? Your mother and I are still in the school. If you're willing to, could you please meet with us?

Dad: I've already calmed your mother down

“How the hell do I respond to this!” Enid waves the phone in front of the psychic's face. “I really don't want to see them right now. Especially her.”

Wednesday pauses to think. “The decision is ultimately up to you.”

“If you'd like, I could follow you for support,” she adds when Enid lets out a loud sigh.

“No, no. It's fine,” the werewolf slumps down. “I've already troubled you enough. I can't possibly ask you to save me from my parents again.”

“Enid, we are 'friends’ as you put it. Is this not what friends do?” Wednesday comforts the girl. “Besides, your mother most likely expects an apology from me.”

“An apology? For what?” Enid questions. “Supposedly turning her daughter 'gay’?”

“Well yes, and also for making physical contact with her.”

She means to apologise for punching your mother in the face. Thing signs out from his spot on the table.

“You punched her?!” Enid practically shouts, before bursting out into laughter. “I wish I could've been there to see that!”

“She was quite shocked,” Wednesday states. “But my offer still stands. I do not mind following you for moral support.”

“I’ll take you up on that offer then!” Enid smiles. “Just don't complain if I hide behind you the whole time or burst out into tears again.”

“We best get going then,” Wednesday hops off the bed, reaching her hand towards Enid. “Or is today the day you chicken out?”

“Nope!” Enid grabs onto the hand, pulling herself off the bed. “I’ve already had to stand my mother for 16 years, I'm sure another 5 minutes won't hurt.”

—————

They quickly made their way to the Quad, which was now empty. It was deserted, and Enid swore she could hear the crickets creaking in the sound of the night.

She immediately notices her parents in the centre of the quad, facing each other as though deep in conversation.

Enid pulls Wednesday by her arm, and they both hide behind a pillar.

“I was kinda hoping they would've left by now. I didn't even reply to my dad's texts,” Enid frowns.

“I could go in your place if you're not up to it. You could simply eavesdrop on the conversation from here,” Wednesday suggests, noticing the werewolf's hesitation.

“You sure? My mother will probably go crazy seeing you there.”

“I'm sure it's nothing I can't handle,” Wednesday says. “There are much greater threats compared to your mother, like Technology.”

“Just maybe don't punch her this time?” Enid laughs, nudging Wednesday's shoulder.

“I make no such promises.”

The psychic then makes her way to the couple, who turn when they notice her presence.

“Wednesday? Where's Enid?” Murray asks.

“Enid would like to know the reason for wanting her here,” Wednesday ignores the question, looking up to Murray.

Esther remains silent, but Wednesday could see her fuming beside her husband.

“I just wanted to talk to her in person,” he answers. “And uhm… her mother also has a few things to say to her.”

“I could pass your messages to her,” Wednesday faces Esther. “But if they aren't kind, then I will not inform her of it.”

Esther's existing frown grows bigger and she crosses her arms.

“I understand. Just…” Murray nods. “Just tell her that I love her and that I hope she's all right. Tell her she can call me anytime.”

“Esther?” He then turns to Esther. “Wasn't there something you wanted to tell Enid?”

“Tell her that she isn't welcome back home in San Francisco until she breaks up with you.”

“Esther. Didn't we talk about this earlier?” Murray whispers. “You said you would apologise and let Enid live her life."

“Well, what if I can't forgive her!” Esther screams. “She doesn't even have the guts to face us and instead sends her weird girlfriend, who should I mention turned her gay, instead! I don't even know how you could possibly want a daughter like her!”

“Esther, how about you just calm d—” Murray tries to hush his ticking time bomb of a wife.

“No, Murray! Don't tell me to calm down! I can't stand this anymore!” Esther shouts at the top of her lungs. She then turns to face Wednesday. “You have got some nerve showing up here. You're supposed to be apologising to me and instead, you come here demanding kind words for Enid, even though she doesn't deserve them!”

“I will get you expelled, you hear me? I wasn't kidding the last time we spoke. You should be thankful I haven't told your Principal yet but as soon as the sun rises, I will be informing her of your acts of assault and harassment to an innocent family who is only trying to help their daughter!” Esther continues her shouting, raising her finger at Wednesday.

“I am terrified,” Wednesday deadpans.

“Is this a joke to you?! I could probably even report you to the police for assaulting me and have you arrested! Would you like that? You better start apologising now, or else I will act on my words. ”

“Go ahead, I've already visited Jericho's holding cells. It was quite the pleasant experience,” Wednesday continues, not giving in to Enid's mother.

“I knew you were bad news from the start,” Esther is baffled. “You know what? Why don't you just shut up—”

“No, Esther! Why don't you shut up!” a voice beside her booms.

Wednesday's eyes widened at this sudden development.

“Murray! I'm not in a good mood to deal with another one of your outbursts—”

“Did you not hear me? Shut up!” Murray cuts her off. “No one is going to the principal! No one is going to report this to the police! No one is going to apologise to you because you're the one who should be apologising!”

Esther is stunned, remaining silent while Wednesday watches the scene unfold.

“You're harassing a 16-year-old who did nothing wrong and you've hurt our daughter for no reason!” Murray states. “I couldn't bring myself to do this all these years but I've had enough. This stops now you hear me? You are not sending Enid away or forcing her to date and marry some random boy who we barely even know! If you do that, then this will be the last you see of me. I will take Enid and her brothers away from you, and you will never hear from us again.”

“I don't care…” he pauses, taking a deep breath, “if she's gay. I care if she's loved. I care if she's happy. What is wrong with you that you don't!?”

Esther's mother remains quiet.

“You really have nothing to say? I don't even know what I saw in you all those years ago. You're just a horrible person to me now. You've been one for years but I was just too blind to see.”

"..." Esther simply huffs, before turning on her heel and walking away.

Murray then looks at Wednesday, sighing. “I'm sorry for what she said.”

“Don't be. I'm glad you were able to stand up for your daughter and be the parent she deserves.”

He nods. “Is Enid really not here?”

Wednesday lowers her head but they quickly turn when another person's voice echoes in the empty quad.

“Dad!” Enid sprints to her father, tackling him into a hug.

“Enid?” He returns the hug, surprised at his daughter's sudden appearance. “I'm sorry about today, I should've said something sooner.”

"D-Dad, it's fine,” Enid pulls him closer. “I heard what you said.”

“I meant it okay? I love you and I'm happy as long as you are. You do you okay?” He places a kiss on her forehead.

“Thank you,” she sniffles, pulling him closer.

Wednesday clears her throat, out of place, standing in front of the father and daughter duo.

"Wednesday," Murray turns to face the shorter girl. "I'm sorry if we got off on the wrong foot."

"It is quite all right. Besides, most of the damage was done by your wife."

"Thank you for taking care of Enid," he smiles. "I hope you don't take Esther's words to heart. Unlike her, I'm completely fine that you are dating my daughter."

Before Wednesday could answer, Enid spits out. "Dad! We aren't dating. Wednesday's just my friend."

"Correct," Wednesday nods, swallowing yet again.

"Oh! I just assumed—" Murray smiles awkwardly. "My bad then! But Enid, if you do ever date a girl just know that it won't change my views on you at all."

"Dad!"

"All right, all right," he chuckles, patting Enid's shoulder. "Just take care of yourself okay, kiddo?"

"I'll call you," the colourful girl smiles, eyes watery.

"I'll be off then," Murray sighs, scratching the back of his neck. "The ride back home sure is going to be awkward…"

Enid grins, waving, as her father walks away, disappearing into the dark hallways of the school, leaving the two girls alone.

Enid turns to look at Wednesday, but the moment is immediately ruined when her stomach starts to grumble.

"Hungry, are we?" Wednesday asks, smirking.

"Shut up!" Enid's face heats up in embarrassment. "We kind of slept through dinner okay!"

"Shall we head to the cafeteria then?" the psychic says, clearly enjoying Enid's self-consciousness. "It should still be open."

"Count me in!" Enid beams, starting to drag Wednesday by her hand. "Let's go then! I could go for some meatballs right now. "

And Wednesday follows along without a care in the world, simply satisfied with the day's turn of events.

Chapter Text

TICK.

"So, let's talk about the Wisteria! First of all, they're native to Asia and North America but are cultivated all around the world. Secondly, they're…"

TICK.

Enid couldn't wait for class to end. She couldn't have cared less about some plant Mr Wilson, their new botany teacher, droned on and on and on about. Well, maybe she did care less about math but that was besides the point. School was just boring. Plain boring

TICK.

She looks up, starting at the clock. 2.59pm. The werewolf groans internally, wishing that the last minute would pass by faster. It was her last class of the day and she couldn't wait to dash back to her dorm room to melt into her bed.

TICK.

"Ah! Only one minute left," Mr Wilson glances at the clock. "Well, we'll continue this topic another time."

He suddenly perks up. "That reminds me! Do remember to submit your group research to me by the end of today. Any late submissions will have points deducted."

Right! Enid had forgotten today was the due date for their project. She could finally get away from that Wyatt!

Weirdly, Enid couldn't help but feel bittersweet about her arrangement with Wednesday ending. Sure they would probably not be around each other as much since they didn't need to put up an act anymore, but at least they were still best friends right? It was fun while it lasted. And it definitely made them closer in more ways than one.

The bell finally shrieks out its usual tune.

"Well then, have a great day class!" The teacher gives his usual smile, dismissing the students.

Enid immediately leaps out of her seat, slinging her bag over her shoulder. She bolts towards the door, desperate to leave. The crowd of students swarm out of the classroom and she attempts to squeeze through.

As she walks through the halls, she wonders what she should get up to back at the dorm. Maybe she could update her blog? Or she could get Wednesday to watch a movie with her? Considering that she had no other activities that day, the possibilities were endless—

THUMP.

“Ah!” A sharp force pulls Enid as a door is slammed closed. What the hell was going on?

She stumbles in, unaware of what was happening. She gasps as her back hits something, and watches as rolls of toilet paper fall to the ground.

As the werewolf gathers her surroundings in this dark and narrow room—she realises that this was the Janitor’s...closet?

Who the hell had pulled her in here? As her vision focuses, Enid looks up at the culprit.

“Wyatt?” Enid furrows her brows. “Why did you pull me in here?!”

It was none other than Wyatt. He was standing right in front of Enid with a smug look on his face—as though proud of something.

In all honesty—Enid would really like to murder Wyatt right now. Did he really have the audacity to just talk to her right after he had ruined everything?! She feels her blood boil and she clenches her fists, staring daggers at the boy.

“If you have nothing to say, I'm leaving,” Enid states, attempting to push past Wyatt.

“Hey, can't we just have a little chat?” Wyatt, steps in front of Enid, blocking her way to the door. “We're friends after all, right?”

Friends? Was Wyatt out of his mind?

“Oh please, don't act all nice after what you did at Parents Weekend,” Enid feels herself growing annoyed. She grits her teeth, trying to control her anger. “Get out of my way.”

“Woah, can't you just listen to what I have to say? I know our project is over and all but…” He gives a grin—acting like nothing was wrong. His hand moves to position itself on Enid's shoulder but she shrugs it off. “I like you, you know? Can't you just give me one chance? To show you how good of a boyfriend I would be?”

He steps closer and Enid can't help but feel disgusted. Why was Wyatt so self-centered? Thinking that everything he does was right. She should've let Wednesday kill him when she had the chance.

“Go away!” Enid gives him a harsh push by the shoulders. “You're such a creep, you know that? Why can't you just take no for an answer?!”

“Well, why can't you just listen to what I have to say!” He shouts, visibly angered by the jolt. “I'm way better than Wednesday—nobody cares about that psychopath! Just let me show you how much better I am!”

Enid found it ironic how Wyatt had called Wednesday a psychopath. It takes one to know one.

He steps forward again, faster this time, leaning forwards. He attempts to grab the back of her neck—as though to pull her into a kiss—but Enid snaps.

Her claws extend as she pushes herself forwards, bringing Wyatt along with her. Her hands reach for the collar of his shirt, as she slams him into the nearest wall—her strength easily overpowering him. Wyatt's eyes widen in shock as Enid does so, and he seems to be at a loss for words.

“What the—”

“Fuck off, Wyatt!” Enid growls, tightening her fists around the shredded collar of his shirt. “Just leave me alone!”

“I-I uh—” Wyatt stutters over his words, head leaning back against the wall as far as possible—as though afraid of what Enid's claws could do.

“My answer is no! The same one I have been giving you these past few weeks! I will not date you!” Enid shouts. She's had this anger bottled for weeks—what better time than to release it now. “In fact, I don't think anyone wants to date you! You can't even respect people's boundaries—what makes you think you're ready for a relationship?”

She unfurls her fists, releasing her grip. Wyatt slides down against the wall, falling onto the ground with a loud thud. He's visibly shaking—and Enid feels a sense of triumph course through her veins. Enid huffs.

“A word of advice?” Enid says. “Before getting into a relationship, try growing up first. You'll be much more likeable, trust me.”

“I-I didn't mean to—” He quivers as he raises his hands, surrendering.

“Didn't mean to what? Be an asshole? It's too late now,” Enid scoffs. “Don't even compare yourself to Wednesday. She's ten times the person you wish you could be.”

“Just… Just leave me alone,” she sighs.

While Wyatt was still cowering in fear, Enid storms off, slamming the door behind her.

With him gone, Enid finally allows herself to relax. She heaves a sigh of relief—like as though a weight had been lifted off her chest. That felt…good. Sure, it was somewhat violent, but Wyatt deserved it. Maybe Wednesday's way of dealing with problems weren't so bad after all.

Now having peace of mind, Enid skips off, heading back to the dorms.

In hindsight, she should've spoken to Wyatt a long time ago.

—————

The door clicks shut as Enid closes the door.

“Ah, Enid. You're back.”

Enid looks up to see Wednesday spinning around in her chair, scuffling towards her direction.

“I have prepared a solution to dispose of Wyatt,” Wednesday states, standing in front of Enid as she hands the werewolf a neat stack of papers. “It consists of a 20 page plan on the logistics and the necessary steps to be carried out.”

“If you could, do look through the documents. Once I have your approval, Thing and I shall proceed with it,” the psychic continues, looking at Enid.

What did Wednesday just say? Enid is bewildered. She immediately flips through the papers, skimming through the pages. It was quite…detailed but thankfully Enid’s stomach had grown a bit stronger once she met Wednesday. She laughs to herself looking at the contents. It was heartwarming to think that Wednesday—notorious on the school campus for being ‘cold’ and ‘selfish’—would come up with such a complex plan just to help Enid.

Enid doesn't know if it's the irony that she had already dealt with Wyatt or how exhausted she's been with tolerating the guy—but she just laughs.

“Yes, it is quite an entertaining read, isn't it?” Wednesday smirks, the corners of her lips turning, completely misunderstanding the reason for Enid's sudden laughter.

“No, no it's not that—” Enid manages to choke out in between laughs. “Wednesday this is sweet and all, but I've already sent the message to Wyatt.”

“You…have?” Wednesday looks intrigued by Enid’s statement. "I assumed he was still persistent with his effort."

“Yeah, I uhm…” the werewolf scratches the back of her neck. “I may or may not have lashed out at him so I don't think he's going to bother me anymore.”

“Oh?” Wednesday's eyes widened slightly. “You’ve learned well.”

Enid blushes at Wednesday's admission, suddenly embarrassed.

“Aww, thanks!” Enid replies. “You've been a big help these past few weeks and I really appreciate it.”

“It was nothing, taunting that nitwit was enjoyable.”

“But really—it means a lot to me,” Enid admits, smiling at the shorter girl.

“I'm glad I could be of service,” Wednesday seems to break the eye contact between the two, looking away. Weird. “I take it that you don't require my help with the matter anymore…?”

“Yeah, sorry I got you involved in this whole thing—I know you're probably tired of my crazy shenanigans by now,” Enid giggles, handing the papers back to Wednesday. Enid swears she hears the psychic's breath hitch—but she doesn't say anything.

“Right,” Wednesday nods. “If there is nothing else, I shall return to my writing.”

Like usual, the two return to their corners to do their own things. But for some reason, Enid just can't help but shake the feeling that their previous interaction felt off. Wednesday seemed to be somewhat upset upon Enid mentioning that their arrangement would end. But why? Was this just another part of Wednesday's unusual body language? Was Enid probably overthinking again? It could mean nothing. Maybe

Instead of dwelling on the matter, Enid chooses to bury herself in her activities instead. Everything was most likely fine. There was nothing to worry about.

—————

A girl with black hair.

Her hair is flowing through the wind, face illuminated by the rising sun.

She doesn't have a smile on her face—somewhat stoic.

But her eyes tell a different story.

The girl remains silent, leaning towards her.

“Enid, ” the girl breaks the silence, moving impossibly close.

Something possesses her as her eyes flicker down towards the girl’s lips—so close as though they're about to make contact with her own.

“Eni—”

~

“Enid.”

Enid wakes up.

She jolts from her position on the bed, launching herself forward as she begins to sit up. She pants, recounting what had just happened.

She feels icky from how sweat had trickled down her back in the midst of her sleep. She looks at the palms of her hands—visibly shaking.

What the hell?

What kind of dream was that?! Enid pinches herself, making sure that she wasn't dreaming again. Who on earth was that girl?

“Enid.” The voice appears again, causing the werewolf to flinch.

She turns to her left, only to see a pair of eyes staring back at her.

“Gah! W-Wednesday?!” Enid stutters. “Were you watching me sleep?!”

For lack of a better word, Enid was confused with what was going on right now.

From her position, it's as though Wednesday is towering over Enid. Her shadow loomed across the floor, figure illuminated by the moonlight.

“You were growling in your sleep again,” Wednesday states. “Is something the matter?”

“E-Everything’s fine,” Enid says. She doesn't know if she's lying to herself or the psychic. But it comforts her somewhat at least. “I just had a weird dream, that's all. Haha…”.

Weird was definitely a word to describe…that.

“I see,” Wednesday nods. “Rest well then, Enid.”

For some reason, Enid, being unable to keep eye contact with Wednesday, flickers her sight down to Wednesday's lips. Just like she had done in the drea—

Wait a minute. That girl seemed oddly familiar... Was that girl Wednesday?!

The scene from the dream comes rushing back to her as she feels her cheeks grow warm. She mutters a few words in reply to Wednesday—attempting to keep her emotions in check.

Enid was insane for this.

She doesn't understand why she would dream about kissing Wednesday of all people. She was her best friend and roommate. Besides, Wednesday was a girl—not that they hadn't kissed before—but still! Enid had always pictured herself being with a guy. She'd never developed feelings for a girl before. But being friends with Wednesday...had felt different. Maybe they just had a special bond, but surely her feelings were simply platonic right? It's not like she has a crush on—

Oh.

Oh.

She likes Wednesday.

The puzzle pieces connect in a split second as the weight of such a realisation begins to dawn on Enid. How couldn't she have seen this coming? She was so stupid!

She flops dramatically back onto her mattress, covering her face with her hands.

Enid was wrong about two things that night. 1 : That she was straight. And 2 : That she had nothing to worry about.

Maybe Yoko was right all along.

Shit!

Notes:

Ok so first of all—nothing crazy happened. I was just busy with school and then I lost motivation and ideas for this fic so sorry about that!

Honestly this chapter is one of the worst things I've ever written here so far but I'm just posting it cause I'm gonna be busy with exams soon. Also I didn't feel like scrapping it.

We are definitely nearing the end because I can't drag this on any longer but I don't know when that'll be. I do promise I will eventually finish the fic, I'm not gonna abandon it!!

Anyways if you're still sticking around for the fic, thanks! Sorry for this horrible chapter though 😢

Chapter 11: All's Well That Ends Well

Summary:

Enid gathers her courage.

Notes:

Quite dialogue heavy, sorry if you're not into that

Chapter Text

“So…let me get this straight,” Yoko inhales a deep breath, lips forming a thin line as she stares at Enid. “You're telling me, that you've been kissing Addams just as ‘friends’ do—and only after having a wet dream about her, do you think you like her?”

“It was not a wet—!” Enid raises her voice but cuts herself short when she notices eyes turning towards their table. Getting mad at Yoko now wouldn't be useful for her current predicament. “T-That's besides the point!” Enid huffs, lowering her voice to frown at the Vampire. “Are you going to help me or not?”

Enid doesn't know why she'd thought going to Yoko for advice would be a good idea. Perhaps, it was due to the sleep she'd lost upon her realisation of…that—or due to her reliance on the Vampire for advice. But in hindsight, someone more sensible or mature would've been a better choice.

Then again, Yoko often seemed to be the voice of reason during some of Enid's more questionable escapades.

It's not like she had anyone else to turn to—it'd probably take too much time and embarrassment to explain how Enid had ended up like this in the first place.

“Yeah, obviously,” Yoko rolls her eyes, as she leans in from across the table. “So? Now that you've realised your feelings—what's the plan?”

Enid raises a brow at the question. Plan for what? “What do you mean?”

“Don't play dumb with me right now,” Yoko groans. “I'm obviously talking about the plan to tell Wednesday about your feelings—you know, confessing.”

Enid feels the blood drain from her face at Yoko’s words.

“W-What?!” The werewolf swallows hard, throat suddenly dry at the thought. “We've barely just started our ‘best friends’ status, I can't just confess!” A million reasons why this was a bad idea race through Enid's mind. She's never been this panicked about a crush before—yet Wednesday Addams was the one to break her streak. “You're crazy!”

“Okay, Ms ‘we're just friends’ Sinclair—look at yourself before calling other people crazy,” Yoko grumbles, pointing a finger at Enid. “You just said you liked Wednesday—what's wrong with confessing? It's not like you haven't done it before.”

It's not like Yoko was lying. Enid had been honest with her feelings before—like with Ajax and a few other childhood crushes. But it's always been guys. It's just…different this time. Not that there was anything wrong with it. Moreover, Wednesday didn't even seem interested in pursuing a romantic relationship—their fake one was purely transactional. Enid sinks back in her seat, sighing.

“I-I can't just…” Enid pauses, trying to find the right words. “Wednesday is…Wednesday. Have you seen the way she looks at everyone? I doubt dating would be something she's interested in.”

“Confessing…” Enid savours the words on her tongue as Yoko remains silent. “Confessing could ruin what we have—and I…I don't want to lose that.”

Enid expects words of comfort or maybe advice from the Vampire.

But they never come.

Instead, the Vampire bursts out laughing, a smirk growing on her face. “Are you serious right now?!” Yoko says in between laughs. “Girl—for how cheerful you always are, you sure do have a pessimistic outlook on your love life.”

Enid grows red at Yoko’s continuous laughter. She's mixed with a sense of relief and irritation—irritated that Yoko’s making fun of her again but also relieved that Yoko remains optimistic about her situation.

“I'm not pessimistic—I'm just being…realistic for once,” Enid pouts, slumping in her seat. “It's different this time. I'm just not…I'm not used to this, okay?” She crosses her arms, enveloping herself. “...Every other time I've had a crush it wasn't this serious. But now, I-I can't even stand to be in the same room as Wednesday!”

Yeesh, you're really out of your depth, huh?” Yoko states, wiping a tear from her eyes as her chuckling finally ceases.

“I just don't know what to do okay?” Enid sinks further into her seat. “My mind’s a freaking mess right now.”

“Okay, okay, chill out,” Yoko leans in towards Enid. “I know you've never felt this strongly about someone before, but that's why it's even more important for you to face these feelings head on.”

The werewolf shifts uncomfortably in her seat as Yoko continues without missing a beat. “If you never tell her how you feel, you're gonna keep second guessing yourself—hell, you might even regret it in the future, always wondering ‘what if?’.”

“But still…” Enid begins, letting out a shaky breath. “I don't want Wednesday to hate me.”

“You're really freaked out about this, huh?” Yoko says. “I'm sure you mean a lot to Wednesday—you're practically the only person keeping her from massacring the entire school.”

“I don't know, Yoko…” Enid mutters. “You really think so?”

“Anyone who has eyes can see how blatantly obvious it is,”Yoko rolls her eyes. “Have you seen the way she looks at you? That's not ‘best friend’ energy. That's the ‘I'm not sure if I want to kiss you or kill you’ look. Not to mention, you two have literally already kissed—multiple times.”

Enid's eyes widen at Yoko's words, the weight of such a realization hitting her like a stack of bricks.  She'd never really considered such a possibility before—that the two of them were more than just 'best friends'.  Looking back on it, Yoko was right.  She recounts the moments where Wednesday's gaze—often sharp and indifferent to the rest of the students—softened in Enid's presence.  Let alone the fact that Wednesday accepted Enid's touch, the Werewolf wonders how she was so oblivious to it all before.

The Werewolf bites her lip, thoughts gathering after having Yoko knocked some sense into her. She's unsure if she's ready to confess her feelings to Wednesday. Honestly, she doesn't think she will ever truly be ready to do so. But…all she had to do was trust her feelings—so that she'll be spared from a lifetime of regret.

“Okay,” Enid nods, a newfound sense of determination creeping into her voice. “I'll do it. I'll…try to talk to her.”

Yoko grins, her mischievous smirk returning. “Now that's the spirit!”

Enid chuckles weakly, feeling a bit better at the idea.

“Now, can you spare me a twenty?” Yoko laughs softly, before whispering. “I may or may not have lost a bet to Divina regarding you.”

“Wait, you two bet on me?!”

Enid isn't sure if the universe is getting back at her for her stupid idea of ‘dating’ Wednesday.

Maybe it's karma, or merely just a coincidence, but everywhere she goes—Wednesday's never more than a few steps behind.

It's as though Wednesday's popping up out of nowhere, leaving Enid a flustered mess. Whether it's in class, in the hallways, in the quad—Enid sees the girl everywhere.

And each time she spots her, Enid's mind scatters and her heart races as she struggles to mutter an excuse before running away. Everytime she thinks she's in the clear, finally able to catch her breath—Wednesday stands in front of her, calm and inscrutable as ever.

The worst part is that Enid knows she's escalating the situation by acting this way. To Wednesday—the Psychic was acting normal, stoic as she usually was—there was nothing out of the ordinary to scare Enid into such a frenzy.

But it's not like Enid can help it. She's barely processed her newfound…feelings, nor has she found an appropriate time to talk to Wednesday. How could she? When everytime she wants to speak to Wednesday, her mind scatters—leaving her blubbering nonsense.

Her heart beats rapidly in her chest, the sound resounding throughout her ears. She stands in front of the mirror, taking deep breaths.

“Everything's fine,” Enid reassures herself, gripping the sides of the cold sink. “Just a simple talk between you and Wednesday—nothing weird!”

Enid was currently in their dorm, finally safe from Wednesday's jumpscares. The Psychic had some co-curriculars to attend, giving Enid an opportune time to calm herself and think of a plan.

She splashes water onto her face, before staring ahead into the mirror again. “It's okay.”

With that, Enid turns around, pushing open the bathroom door.

Unfortunately, a familiar figure stands right in front of it.

“Enid,” a voice cuts through Enid's facade, soft but pointed.

Standing there in her usual dark ensemble is Wednesday Addams—the one person Enid could not bear to see right now.

“W-Wednesday? What…What're you doing here?” Enid stammers, quite aware of Wednesday's presence now.

“It's quite appropriate for me to be here,” Wednesday merely states. “It's our dormitory after all.”

Enid's mouth dries up, suddenly unable to speak. All she can focus on right now is the girl in front of her—about how close they are, with Wednesday stepping forward. The werewolf flushes red, turning her head to the side.

“Was there something I did that upset you?” Noting Enid's silence, Wednesday continues. “If there is, I would like to clarify I had no intentions to do so.”

Wednesday's expression remains neutral, but her eyes—those soulless looking eyes, now had a glint in them that made the Werewolf's nerves spike.

It's that look.

The one Yoko was talking about.

It's intense, like Wednesday's eyes were drilling into her, as though daring her to say something—admit her own feelings that have grown into something more than Enid would like to admit to. Her chest tightens further, and Enid doesn't know how much longer she can handle this interaction.

“W-What?” Enid looks back at the girl. “N-No, of course not! You didn't do anything wrong, Wednesday.”

There's no exit, as Wednesday steps closer towards Enid—like she's intentionally cornering the Werewolf into the bathroom.

“What seems to be the problem then?” Wednesday cocks her head to the side, clueless. “You're acting unusually quiet today.”

“Wednesday, I—” Enid swallows. Hard. It's the first time she's said the name with such conviction.

“You're…welcome to tell me anything,” Wednesday reminds her. The words seem strange coming from her.

With the genuine look of concern on the Psychic's face, Enid falters.

“I think I like you!” Enid blurts out—immediately clamping her mouth shut with her hands.

“I suppose the feeling is mutual,” Wednesday raises a brow, oblivious to the meaning behind her words. “We are —‘best friends’ as you would put it—after all.”

“No, no, Wednesday…” Enid sighs, crossing her arms as she stumbles over her words. “I-I like you. Like more than a friend. Romantically.”

Silence fills the space between them as Enid leans back on the bathroom counter.

“Is that the reason why you were avoiding me?” Wednesday simply asks.

“Sorry, I…I was just,” Enid scratches the back of her neck, suddenly feeling self conscious. “I don't know…”

“After my whole stupid idea to get rid of Wyatt, I just…” Enid murmurs, looking down at the ground now. “I only realised my feelings for you recently— I was…scared you'd hate me if I told you.” The Werewolf pauses before whispering. “I just didn't want to lose you.”

“Enid.”

The air between them is thick, only the sound of their breaths fill the enclosed space. Enid continues to stare at the ground, waiting for the Psychic to continue, her nerves on edge.

“I don't believe I could ever despise you,” Wednesday reassures Enid, her words firm, with a softer tone behind them.

The Werewolf's eyes snap up, flickering around to decipher the expression on Wednesday's face. It's…empathy, maybe

“You don't think I'm crazy?” Enid asks.

“Quite the contrary,” Wednesday retorts. “It pains me to admit this but, I find you…endearing.”

Enid grows redder at Wednesday's admission. A wave of embarrassment and relief wash over her. Did this mean…?

“So, you…?” Enid leaves her question unsaid, gesturing her hands in the air.

“Like I said before, the feeling is mutual,” Wednesday nods, composed as ever.

“Oh, oh.” Enid's heart flutters. “So…what now?”

Wednesday ponders for a moment before looking at Enid. “I…believe we have much to discuss. Perhaps, in a more comfortable setting than the bathroom.”

“Yeah,” Enid lets out a chuckle to ease the tension bubbling up in the air. Also, she finds it funny how unusually red Wednesday's face was getting.

It isn't a perfect confession by any means. The Werewolf was barely able to get her point across without stumbling over her words. It's not like in the movies where the main character would profess their love with such confidence—their love interest pulling them into a kiss to seal the deal.

But Enid doesn't do any of that.

She simply wraps her arms around Wednesday, pulling her into a hug.

“Thank you,” Enid whispers, her voice cracking. She nuzzles her head into Wednesday's shoulder, holding her tighter. “Thanks for not hating me.”

Wednesday doesn't say anything as Enid hugs her.

All Enid can feel is a pair of arms, enveloping her back in warmth—and for now, Enid decides that it's enough.

Wednesday simply being by her side was enough.

————

It's been about a week since that whole…ordeal, and Enid is back to her usual self.

She's still not entirely sure what the future holds for her and Wednesday, but Enid feels different—better. They've been spending more time together, in their usual routine of classes, hangouts during lunch, and the occasional walk around Nevermore’s campus.

They haven't put a label on it or anything, but it's a nice change of pace. Enid catches herself smiling all the time whenever Wednesday tries to hide her own expressions whenever they are alone. But Enid is able to read her well by now—the slight tilt of the Psychic's lips, the softened look of her gaze. It's a silent acknowledgement of Wednesday's affection, at least in her own way.

One evening, they find themselves on the balcony of their dorm, gazing at the deep blue of the night sky. Enid turns to Wednesday, her heart feeling lighter nowadays.

“Isn't it funny how my stupid idea led us here?” The Werewolf laughs.

Wednesday glances towards her. “Well, it is a satisfactory conclusion, isn't it?”

Enid hums, looking back at the stars that paint the sky. “So, uhm, does this mean we're…?”

“I'm sure you know that I'm not one for grand gestures,” Wednesday says, her tone remaining neutral. “But if it's for you, I'm…willing to try.”

“Is that a yes, then?” Enid beams at Wednesday's hesitation.

“I suppose it is,”she responds, and the warmth that blooms in Enid's chest feels like everything she wanted.

She rests her head on the Psychic's shoulder, letting out a breath she didn't realise she'd been holding.

For once, things aren't uncertain anymore—they simply feel right.

And that's all Enid could ever ask for.

Notes:

Hello! Sorry this took so long. Between my exams and break off school, I kinda didn't have much motivation to write this. Now that they're over, I finally got around to finishing up this last chapter as a way to cope with the fact that my results are out soon 🙃

Sorry again if this isn't the satisfying ending you wanted for this fic—I just didn't want to delay any longer and wrap it up.

Anyways, if you've been reading since the start or maybe just picked it up, thank you for all the support on this fic. Just know that I appreciate every single kudos and read every comment.

I probably won't write another wenclair fic and if I do, it wouldn't be multichapter. Can't believe this took more than a year to finish (I don't know how yall survived).

Once again, THANK YOU for reading, from the bottom of my heart—I hope you have a great day!!
