(Four Years earlier, Riddle-Black safe house)
“Regulus, please! You have to come with us!” Jean Rosier-Riddle cried as she gripped him tightly. Pressing a soft kiss against her forehead, Regulus sighed.
“You know I can’t. Not with the way Dumbledore is acting. He is insistent that I am an evil wizard and working with your father as a dark evil wizard.”
“It’s him who is the evil wizard. He just doesn’t want to admit it. Treating my father as the one who is hurting everyone when it’s Dumbledore who is the one who is ordering the Ministry around and parading around in Hogwarts like he is some hero .” Jean spat.
“Shhh. It’ll be okay.” Regulus soothed her softly.
“No, no it won’t. Promise me you’ll come find us when you’re done? Please?”
“My love, I can’t promise that.” Regulus whispered.
“You have to. What am I going to tell our daughter about you? She’ll want to know you.”
“And she will. You will tell her about me and about my brother and family. You’ll introduce her to everyone, won’t you?” Regulus asked.
“Of course I will.”
“Good. There is a flat in the outskirts of Wizarding London. It’s ours. Take our little girl and raise her there. I love you both okay?” Regulus whispered before kissing his wife once more.
“We love you so much Regulus Arcturus Black.” Jean whispered and she watched him aparate from their safehouse.
Chapter 2: Chapter 1
Chapter Text
(January 16th, 1985)
Four year old Hermione Jean was found by the Ministry of Magic when her accidental magic showed up after an unfamiliar man showed up at the flat and attacked her mum which resulted in an explosion.
When the Ministry showed up at her home in London, they were shocked to see that the home had been torn to shreds and little Hermione was huddled in her mum’s bedroom.
“There’s someone in here!” One of the Aurors shouted.
“Will you quit shouting, Moody? We could tell once we walked in.” Another voice chided.
“Let’s check all the rooms! We found a young woman, who seems to be in her 20’s, deceased.” The same Auror informed them.
“Oh good Godric.” Andromeda Black muttered as she opened a door, which looked like it led to the master bedroom of the house.
“Hello? Anyone in here?” She called softly.
She could hear faint small sniffles and whimpers. Following the noise, Andromeda was shocked to find a little girl about four years old. She crouched down to the girl’s level and spoke softly and gently, “Hi sweet girl. It’s okay, I’m here to help you. Can you tell me your name?”
Hermione sniffled and wiped her eyes, hiccuping before her small voice responded , “H-hermione.”
“Well hello, Ms. Hermione. My name is Andromeda Black, but you can call me Andy or Dromeda. I am here to help you, like I stated earlier. Will you please come with me?” She smiled softly and held out her hand.
“Where’s my mummy? I-I heard her scream.”
Andromeda sighed. How do you explain to a small child that their mother is no longer alive?
“Hermione? Will you come with me?”
Hermione began crying once more, “I-I want Mummy. Please.”
Scooping up the tiny girl, Andromeda immediately began rubbing soothing circles on her back and whispering sweet things in Hermione’s ears in the hopes of calming her down. “You’re going to see some people downstairs, but they are with me. Alright? You do not need to be scared, okay? I’ve got you, sweet girl.”
Carefully, Hermione clung to Andromeda as she descended down the stairs.
“Andromeda? What have you got there?” A new voice asked as she entered the room that used to be the living area.
“This is Hermione. I found her hiding upstairs in her mum’s bedroom. I am going to take her back to the Ministry with me.”
Moody chimed in, “I really do not think that is a good idea.”
Andromeda glared at him, “ You do not get to decide that. You do not get to decide whether or not this little girl is going to a good home. I am going to decide that. I do think you should do your job, as an Auror, Moody, and investigate the death of this little girl’s mother. Because if I’m correct, and I believe I might be, this was fucking Albus Dumbledore’s doing.”
“How do you figure?” Moody asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
Andromeda cast a silencing charm around the little girl’s head, protecting her from the conversation to come. “He knew that my cousin was a father. He knew Regulus had hidden his daughter with her mother. This child is my niece , Alastor, and Dumbledore had her mother killed. And for what? To rid the world of a wizard who he thinks is evil? When I know for fact that the wizard in question is innocent? Because the way I see it now, Albus is more evil than the wizard he is trying to frame. For Godric’s sake, Dumbledore killed that wizard’s daughter and my niece’s mother.”
Before Moody could even form a response, Andromeda apparated away with Hermione in her arms.
****
Several hours had passed since Hermione was whisked away from the only home she’d ever known. While at the Ministry, she sat in an office belonging to Andromeda, which, luckily, had toys, children’s books, and a couch. Quietly, Hermione hopped off of the couch to retrieve a book, and then returned to her spot, eagerly looking at the pictures.
Suddenly, the door opened and Andromeda popped in with some food. “Hi sweet girl, I see you found some of my daughter’s books,” She began, “Are you hungry?”
Hermione shook her head softly, “No.”
“Will you let me sit with you? We can read together if you’d like?” Andromeda asked.
The four year old shrugged and she moved over for Andromeda to sit. “Dromeda? Where’s my mummy?” Hermione asked quietly, so quietly that Andromeda almost had a hard time hearing her.
“What was that sweetheart?”
“Where’s my mummy? I want her.” Hermione whimpered and her eyes filled with tears.
Breathing in deeply, Andromeda sighed, “Have you heard of Heaven, sweet girl?”
Nodding, Hermione sniffled, “That’s where my nana went. Mummy told me.”
“What if I told you that’s where mummy went?” Andromeda explained.
“Mummy’s with Nana now?” Hermione asked innocently.
“She is.”
“What about me? Where will I go?”
“You, my dear, will stay here with me for a bit while I work. I will be right back, okay? Try and eat something for me. You must be hungry.”
“A little.”
Pressing a small kiss to Hermione’s head, Andromeda, again, left her in her office.
Twenty minutes had passed when Andromeda returned with a woman who introduced herself to Hermione. “Hi little one. My name is Lily Potter.” Lily smiled.
“Hi.” Hermione said shyly.
“I’m sorry about your mummy.”
“She’s with my nana now.” Hermione murmured.
“Is she now?”
“Uh-huh.”
Lily’s heart broke a little more for Hermione. “What do you say about coming and staying with me for a while?” She asked.
“Really?” Hermione asked.
“Mhm. You can even meet my husband and my little boy.”
Andromeda shot Lily a look. “Lily, do you think that’s wise?”
“What option do we have Dromeda? She’s four years old and she doesn’t have anyone to go live with! I sure as hell am not letting her go into an orphanage.” Lily said sternly.
“She does have a relative who is alive.” Andromeda murmured.
Lily breathed in deeply, “Who?”
Discreetly, Andromeda cast a muffliato , so Hermione wouldn’t hear their imminent discussion. Once she finished explaining who Hermione’s father was, Lily glanced at the four year old who had gone back to flipping through the picture book, and she was grateful for Andromeda’s tactful spellwork.
A few moments later, she removed the spell with Finite . “So I have to ask again, are you sure this is something you and James can take on? I know for a fact that little Harry is a carbon copy of James.” Andromeda smiled.
“Trust me Dromeda. We can handle it. Hermione will fit into the Potter family perfectly.”
“If it comes to that, would you and James consider adopting her? Officially making her a Potter?”
“I would. Though I would never ever replace Jean, Merlin rest her soul. Hermione should know that her mum loved her very much.” Lily replied as she caught sight of the little girl who might someday become her daughter, now fast asleep.
Both women let out a soft laugh as they noticed Hermione soundly asleep. “I think I’m going to send Patronus to my husband and see if he’ll meet me here.” Lily said.
“Good idea. But who would be watching Harry?” Andromeda asked.
“His godfather.” Lily smiled.
Andromeda nodded, “Very well. I do think we should let her sleep a bit. She’s had a rough few hours.”
“You’ll send a Patronus when she wakes?” Lily asks. “I will.” Andromeda promised.
***
True to her word, Andromeda sent her Patronus to Lily and James, informing them Hermione had woken up, but that she was understandably confused and scared because she woke up in an unfamiliar place.
“There we go now. You’re okay, little love.” Andromeda soothed as she comforted the four year old.
“Dromeda? I-i want my mummy.” Hermione sniffed quietly.
“I know you do sweetheart. I know. But you know what? Remember my friend who was here earlier?” Andromeda asked.
Hermione nodded gently. “She’s coming back with her husband and she wants him to meet you.”
“Why?”
“Well sweetheart, so you can go live with them if you want to.” Andromeda explained softly.
“B-but what about my toys? I want my stuffed dragon.” Hermione’s lip quivered a bit more.
Andromeda’s eyes widened a bit at the mention of a stuffed dragon, “A dragon, hm? I do believe I was able to snag this just as we were leaving your home.” With a wave of her wand, she accioed the toy from her desk.
“Dragon!” Hermione gasped and she clutched at the toy tightly.
“Sweetheart, if you don’t mind me asking, who gave the toy to you?”
“My mummy said it was from my daddy.” Hermione said as hugged the toy dragon tightly.
Andromeda smiled softly, “It’s a beautiful toy dragon.”
“Thank you.”
As Hermione and Andromeda continued to talk, there was a tentative knock on the office door.
“Come in.” Andromeda called to their visitors.
Few moments later, James and Lily Potter walked into Andromeda’s office. “Hello Lily, James” Andromeda acknowledged.
“Andy.” James nodded.
“Hermione? Remember how I said that my husband wanted to meet you?” Lily said.
Hermione nodded.
“Well Hermione, this is my husband James Fleamont Potter. James, this is Hermione Jean Granger.”
“Hello Hermione.” James said tenderly.
Hermione cast a shy look towards James.
“It’s okay Hermione. James is very nice. Why don’t you show him some of the books Andromeda has?” Lily suggested.
“Okay!” Hermione said and she reached out for James hand which he took. “I can show you my dragon.”
“You have a dragon?” James asked in faux shock.
Suddenly the air was filled with Hermione’s giggles. “Not a real dragon! A toy dragon.”
Grinning at her, James matched her laughter. “Oh, okay!”
Sitting on the couch with Hermione, James watched as she began to explain the book in her lap. While he listened to Hermione talk and giggle, James glanced at Lily and she understood the look she was giving him. It was at that exact moment that both Lily and James knew Hermione was going to be a part of their family.

(January 27th, 1985)
“Really?!” A four year old Harry Potter yelled loudly. James chuckled at his enthusiastic son.
“Yes Harry. But when she arrives she is going to be really shy at first, okay? She’s a bit scared right now.” Lily explained softly.
“I can make her not scared, Mum! She’ll love it here!” Harry chirped.
“She will huh?” James spoke up.
“Uh-huh! I can show her my room and we can stay up all night!” Harry said excitedly.
Lily chuckled at her son adoringly, “Take it easy my little love. She might want to get settled in her new home first.”
Harry’s little shoulders sagged, “Oh.”
“But, she might like it if you pick some toys out for her.” James suggested. Harry’s eyes lit up. “I can?!”
“Yes.” Lily and James confirmed. “What do you say about going to London to pick out some toys for your sister?” James asked Harry. Nodding enthusiastically, Harry scampered off to put his shoes on.
Feeling her husband wrap his arms around her, Lily sighed in contentment. “He seems excited. That’s good right?”
“Very good. I was a tad bit worried about how he’d react.” James admitted honestly.
“Andromeda said she will be bringing Hermione tonight.” Lily said softly.
“Then this just means we need to work fast then?” James wondered. “Mhm.”
“Lils? I know this might seem like a stretch but what will happen when she asks about her father?” James asked suddenly.
Lily gave him a look, “I’m sure she’s seen pictures of Jean and him together but if and when that time comes, we’ll tell her the truth and not some half-arsed lie that I’m sure our dear old headmaster was going to come up with.” Lily said honestly.
“Do you really think that Dumbledore would really try and kill Jean?” James asked her.
“I want to believe it isn’t so but with the way Andromeda was describing the state that the home was in and given the way Hermione was found. I think Jean did everything in her power to stop him from getting to Hermione and it ended up costing her her life.”
“If Hermione’s father returns, what happens then?” James wondered.
“We take it day by day. I’m not going to deny our daughter if she wants to get to know her biological father, but right now as far as I’m concerned, you, James Potter, are her father.” Lily conceded.
Sighing, James rubbed his hands over his face and he knew what his wife said was entirely true. Pressing a kiss onto her husband's cheek, Lily murmured, “Let’s go see what our little daredevil is up to. I’m sure he is picking out a toy for Hermione.”
“I’m sure he is.” James nodded.
As they ascended upstairs to their son’s room, they did indeed find their four year old rummaging through his toys seemingly trying to pick the perfect toy for Hermione, even though she wasn’t due to arrive for another five hours.
“Um, son? What are you doing?” James asked him. Turning his little body towards his parent’s, Harry smiled widely and he beamed, “I’m picking a toy for my sister!”
Crouching down to his level, Lily kissed his head adoringly, “You are just the sweetest boy I know.”
“Not true mummy. You do know two more sweet boys.” Harry said seriously.
“Oh? I do?” Lily teased.
“Uh-huh! Draco and Theo!” Harry informed her.
“Well you are very correct. I do know three very sweet boys.”
“I told you.” Harry rolled his eyes.
“Well now that you’ve picked out a toy for her, what do you say of going to London and buying things for her room?” James said.
“Yes!” Harry cheered.
“James, we really don’t know what she likes. How can we decorate without her input?” Lily wondered.
Smiling cheekily, James shrugged, “Well my darling wife, you are a witch no? This is where magic would come into play.”
“Cheeky git.” Lily muttered. “Now let’s hit the road! I say we shall floo into the leaky?” James suggested.
“We shall.” Lily agreed as she grabbed Harry’s small coat.
“Harry James Potter, it is cold outside, you need to put your coat on.” She said, giving her son a look.
“Aw mummy,” Harry whined.
“No whining my love, you’ll get sick if you don’t put it on.” Lily reasoned.
“Fine.” Harry huffed.
“Come on my family, the sooner we’re back home, the sooner, the newest Potter will be here.” James said as he took Harry and Lily’s hands.
Stepping into the floo, James called out ‘The Leaky Cauldron!’
And not even two minutes later, the three of them were pulled into the floo of the Leaky Cauldron. Upon entering the Leaky Cauldron, the Potter family quickly exited the fireplace and were greeted by the barkeep/innkeeper, Tom. “Morning James, Morning Lily.”
Peering over the bar, Tom smiled gently at Harry, “Why hello there young Harry,”
“Hi. I’m getting a sister!” Harry beamed excitedly.
“Well, are you now?” He asked. Harry nodded enthusiastically.
Tom then glanced at James and Lily. Discreetly Lily cast a Muffliato to keep Harry from listening in on their conversation.
Noticing the buzzing that filled his tiny ears, Harry merely frowned and pouted.
“Oh my,” Tom uttered as both James and Lily finished explaining the situation.
“And does the other Mr.Black know of his niece?”
“Not as of late. But he soon will. We’re hoping to keep it from the Prophet.” James sighed.
“Good luck with that lad. Those pesky reporters are relentless.”
“That they are.” James replied.
“James, we need to go. Andy will be arriving with Hermione in a few hours.” Lily reminded him gently.
“Right. Tom, wonderful to see you as always. Harry let’s go son.” James announced to his son who was sitting quietly.
Hopping off the stool, Harry gave Tom a bright grin. “Bye Mr.Tom.”
“Goodbye little lad. One of these days you will remind your father to bring you along with your sister for some treats.” Tom informed him.
Harry’s tiny head bobbed in confirmation before he finally took hold of Lily and James’ hand. The family of three quickly exited the Leaky Cauldron and were immediately greeted with the cold and wet busy streets of London.
“Where shall we start?” James asked.
“I would like to buy her some clothes and maybe a few toys. I also was thinking maybe we could just transfigure a bed for her?” Lily suggested.
“Good idea. Or maybe we could pop into Diagon Alley once we’ve finished shopping in London, to buy her a bed and other necessities?” James offered.
“I like that idea better.”
Venturing off into the busy streets of London, Lily scooped Harry into her arms so he wouldn’t get lost.
****
Two hours had passed and it seemed like Lily had entered every shop to buy Hermione new clothes. “Mummy, I’m hungry.” Harry whined as he tugged on Lily’s hand.
“Same here Lil’s.” James agreed with his son.
Letting out a soft chuckle, Lily spoke, “Well I do believe we can head into Diagon Alley for a little lunch and then we can look for a bed for Hermione and then go home?”
“Sounds good.” James said as he picked up Harry.
Harry then laid his head on his father’s shoulder and let out a small yawn. “Looks like someone is ready for his nap too.” James suggested softly to Lily.
“Nooo.” Harry whined in protest.
“Let’s go back to the Leaky Cauldron so we can floo into Diagon Alley to the Hogshead and have lunch.”
Lacing their fingers together, James, Lily and Harry made their way back to the Leaky Cauldron where they proceeded to floo to Diagon Alley.
Exiting the floo of the Leaky Cauldron and bidding Tom a goodbye, the Potter Family quickly traveled through the busy pub, and exited through the back where Lily proceeded to grab her wand and tap onto the cobblestone bricks. The small opening then formed into an archway which would lead them to Diagon alley.
Yawning, Harry lifted his head and his eyes widened as he took in the wonders of Diagon Alley. “Whoa.” Harry uttered.
Grinning James spoke, “Whoa is right buddy. You wanna know what this place is called?”
“Yeah!”
“This is Diagon Alley. You’ve been here before but you were way smaller. This is where your mum and I will take you to get your school supplies when it’s time to go to Hogwarts when you’re older.” James stated.
“My sister will come too?” Harry asked gently.
“Yes. Yes she will.” Lily said as she ruffled his hair which made him whine in protest.
“Nooo mummy.”
“Let’s go find Hermione a few more things for her room, okay? And then we’ll go eat.” Lily informed her tired and cranky son.
“Can we share a room?” Harry asked his parents suddenly. At this question, both James and Lily shared a look.
“We’ll see buddy. It’s up to Hermione whether or not she wants to share a room with you.” James explained softly.
Harry’s lip quivered slightly, “What if she doesn’t like me?”
“Harry James, no crying my little one. She will love you. You will be her big brother after all.” Lily said.
“Really?” Harry sniffled.
“Well not really but you can protect her like a big brother.” James interjected.
“I want to meet her now.” Harry huffed petulantly.
“Soon my little one. First we need to eat and then you need a nap, remember?” At the reminder of a nap, Harry merely slouched in his father’s arms and went quiet. He hated naps and thought they were useless. Chuckling quietly at their son, James and Lily intertwined their hands together and they began to walk down the streets of Diagon Alley until they found the shop they were looking for.
Leaning down to speak into Lily’s ear, James murmured, “Go look at a bed for our daughter, yeah? Harry and I will be back.”
Lily gave her husband a curious look but James waved her off. “Go.”
Wondering what her husband was up to, Lily shook her head and she began to look for a bed for Hermione.
Nearly after looking for almost forty minutes, Lily was satisfied that she finally found the perfect bed for Hermione. Just as she was paying for the bed, she heard a very familiar voice.
Turning her head at the voice, she was greeted by Narcissa Malfoy.
“Hello Lily.” Narcissa smiled politely.
“Narcissa, pleasure. What brings you into Diagon Alley?” Lily asked.
“Doing a bit of shopping before Lucius’ is due to arrive home.” Narcissa replied.
Nodding her head, Lily then asked, “Where is Draco?”
“He is actually with your little boy. It seems James didn’t mind keeping an eye on him for a few moments while I browsed a bit.”
“James adores Draco.” Lily smiled.
“As does my son. During the summer, he kept asking if we were going to visit Uncle Prongs and Aunt lily.”
At that statement, Lily let out a laugh. “I cannot believe Sirius got Draco to call James, ‘Uncle Prongs.’”
“Me either. Now, I hope you mind me asking but, it seems you’re shopping for a little girl. And I don’t mean to be rude, but Lily you don’t have a little girl, unless?” Narcissa trailed off, her gaze shifting towards Lily’s stomach.
“Oh no. I’m not pregnant. James and I are adopting a little girl.”
“Oh that’s wonderful! What’s her name?” Narcissa asked.
“Hermione Jean.” Lily beamed.
“Lovely name. Will we get to meet her?”
“Of course. But Cissa, there is something you should know,” Lily began. Narcissa gave her a confused look. “And what’s that?”
“She’s his daughter.” Lily spoke softly, so softly that Narcissa had a hard time hearing her. “R-.” Narcissa began before Lily shushed her.
“Yes. No one knows yet and we like to keep it that way.” Lily sighed. “But..what if?”
“James and I’ve already discussed what should happen if your cousin decides to return. He will have a place in his daughter’s life.”
“And her mum?” Narcissa asked carefully. “Jean was murdered a few days ago.”
Tears filled Narcissa’s eyes as she heard the news about one of her closest friends. “By who?”
“I’ll give you one guess.” Lily said solemnly. “No. There’s no way that Albus did it?” Narcissa asked, her voice hushed. “It’s what Andromeda said when she introduced me to Hermione.”
“My sister found her?” Narcissa asked, shocked. “She did. There was an explosion and it was a result of accidental magic.”
“Do you think Hermione’s magic was trying to protect her and Jean?”
“It’s a possibility but we’ll never know now will we?” Lily wondered.
“No. No we won’t.” Narcissa answered honestly.
A few moments passed before Lily spoke again, “Let’s go see what our boys are up to.”
Narcissa nodded in agreement.
As they walked towards the exit of the shop, Lily immediately spotted her husband with the two kids.
“Mummy!” Both boys shouted and they ran to their respective mothers. “Hi my lovely, were you good for uncle James?” Narcissa asked as she picked up Draco. “Uh-huh! We went into the Quidditch shop!” Draco said.
“James..” Narcissa gave him a look, “Please tell me you didn’t buy my son more Quidditch gear. Between you, Lucius, and Sirius he has more Quidditch stuff than he needs.”
“A boy should have plenty of Quidditch supplies,” James shrugged and he asked, “Right boys?”
Both Harry and Draco chirped, “Yup!”
Shaking their heads, Narcissa and Lily both rolled their eyes. “I do believe it’s time to head home, my dragon. Your aunt Bella will be arriving with your little sister soon.”
“Okay mummy!” Draco announced.
“It was good seeing you Cissa, Draco.” Lily smiled.
“Bye aunt Lily! Bye uncle Prongs! See you Harry!” Draco bellowed.
Chuckling at her son, Narcissa hugged Lily and James. “We’ll have to set up a time to meet your little girl. I do believe she would get along with my son, no?”
“Now cissa, it’s too early to be talking about betrothal contracts,” James uttered disapprovingly.
Smacking James on the arm, Lily shook her head, “She wasn’t talking about betrothal contracts you dolt. She was talking about Hermione being friends with Draco. Which doesn’t sound like a bad idea. I’m sure they would get along great.”
“Oh.” James said sheepishly.
“Men.” Lily and Narcissa utter lowly.
Soon they departed ways and now Lily and James were picking up dinner to bring home before Andromeda would bring Hermione home to her new house.
After eating their dinner and giving Harry a bath, they heard the floo activate and Andromeda’s voice.
“ Hello ?” Andromeda voiced.
“We’re in here Andy.” Lily called out. With Hermione in tow, Andromeda walked through the halls and found James and Lily sitting in the living area.
“James? Lily? Do you want to meet your daughter?” Andromeda asked softly.
Lily’s eyes widened and they filled with unshed tears, “It went through?”
Nodding, Andromeda smiled, “She’s officially a Potter.”
“Oh my gods.” Lily laughed and she leaned into James embrace.
Slowly Andromeda put Hermione down and she crouched down to her level and spoke to her softly, “Hermione? Do you remember my friend, Lily?”
Hermione nodded.
“She and her husband, James, are now your parents. Remember what we talked about?” Andromeda queried.
“Uh-huh. I get to live with them now.”
“Yeah you do. And guess what?”
“What?” Hermione wonders.
“You have a brother.” Andromeda says. Hermione turned towards Lily and James.
“I do?” She asks them. Both Lily and James nod.
“You do. His name is Harry. Do you want to meet him?”
Hermione nodded.
“I’ll check in with you later.” Andromeda murmurs and she hugged Lily before heading home.
“James? Will you go get Harry?” Lily asked.
“Yeah, but before I do, why don’t you go get Hermione set up in her room?”
“I have a room here?” Hermione asked innocently.
“You do, sweet girl. And you know what? We can decorate it however you like.” Lily smiled.
“Thank you mummy.” Hermione said quietly. Lily let out a soft gasp.
“You’re welcome sweet girl. Now, let's get you settled in so you can meet Harry.”
Lily picked up Hermione’s small bag she had and she led her to a room near Harry’s and close to their room as well. “Mummy? I love it.” Hermione said as she jumped onto the bed.
Lily let out a soft chuckle, “I’m glad sweetheart, now be careful okay?”
“Okay!” Hermione smiled.
“What’s with all this ruckus? Are you two having a party without us?” James wondered.
“Maybe?” Lily smirked.
“I say we put this little party on hold for just a moment. Hermione? Sweetheart, we want to introduce you to your brother,” James began, “Harry, meet your sister, Hermione.”

“Hi.” Harry said shyly.
“Hi.” Hermione mumbled.
“Do you want to go play?” Harry asked. Hermione nodded.
The two of them took off towards Harry’s room. Lily leaned into James. “I think that went well, yeah?”
“It seems like it. I’m so glad he took to her. I was a little worried about how he would react.” James admitted.
“She’ll be a good fit for the family right?” Lily asked.
“Of course she will. Now we need to worry about introducing her to the rest of our extended bunch.” James said honestly.
“That we do.” Lily sighed and they soon heard giggling and squeals of laughter.
“Mummy! Come play with us.” Harry yelled. Lily laughed and she stood up.
“Well what do you say daddy? Shall we go play with the kids?”
“And let them stay up past their bedtime?” James wondered.
“What’s the harm in that? I mean look at them, they took to each other very quickly.” Lily said.
“That they are.” James said and they went to Harry’s room to find Hermione and Harry playing with Harry’s toys.
“What are we playing?” Lily asks softly.
“With my Quidditch set.” Harry uttered.
“Quidditch huh?” James asked.
“Uh-uh! I’m going to teach Mi about Quidditch.”
“Really?” Lily asked, while smiling. Harry nods.
“What’s Quidditch?” Hermione asks quietly.
“It’s only the bestest wizarding game ever.”
“One of the best things in the Wizarding world. We will have to attend a Quidditch match soon.” James says.
“Okay.” Hermione agrees.
A few hours later after playing with the various amounts of toys that Harry had and after decorating Hermione’s room for a bit, it was now nearing 11 pm.
Yawning softly, Hermione rubbed her eyes.
Lily chuckled softly and she gently crouched in front of Hermione, “Are you tired sweet girl?”
“Uh-huh.” Hermione yawned and she rubbed her eyes once more.
“Well I do think it’s time for bed.” Lily said as she scooped Hermione into her arms. James did the same with Harry who immediately began whining and protesting.
“I’m not tired daddy.” Harry huffed before he then let out a big yawn.
James quirked up an eyebrow, “Not tired huh?”
“Okay I’m tired.” Harry relented.
As they headed to the kids room, Hermione spoke up, “Mummy? Daddy?”
“Yeah princess?” James murmured.
“Can I sleep with Harry in his room?” Hermione asked quietly.
Rubbing Harry’s back slightly, James asked, “What do you think little man? Do you want a sleepover with your sister?”
“Uh-huh. I can tell her all about our family and that they’ll be excited to meet her.” Harry uttered as he yawned through most of his sentence.
“Well then, that settles that. I’ll transfigure a bed for her.” Lily smiled.
“Perfect.”
Once making sure the two kids were bathed and dressed in their pajamas, the family of four made their way into Harry’s room, where sure enough Lily had transfigured a bed which bore a striking resemblance to the one new one they purchased in Diagon Alley.
“Read us a book mummy!” Harry chirped as he settled in his bed.
“A story, hm? What kind of story my little loves?” Lily asked, including Hermione as well.
Harry’s little face became a little serious for a moment, “Babbity Rabbity and her Cackling Stump?”
Hermione’s eyes lit up as Harry mentioned the story, “Oh please! My other mummy used to read that to me.”
Lily smiled softly, “Babbity rabbity it is.”
The two four year olds quickly settled into their beds as Lily began to read the children’s book. After a few minutes after Lily began reading, both kids were out like lights and snoring softly. Both James and Lily kissed them goodnight once more before finally casting a silencing charm and warding the room.
Heading to their room, they both changed into comfortable clothes and crawled into bed and into each other’s embrace. Sighing softly, James pulled Lily close and placed a soft yet tender kiss on her head.
“James?” Lily whispered.
“Yeah love?”
“Are we doing the right thing?”
When the question slipped past his wife’s lips, James looked at her with a serious face. “Of course we are doing the right thing. We are giving Hermione a good home to live in and to be loved. It’s what Jean and Reggie would have wanted.”
“I just..what if Jean’s father is notified that his granddaughter is alive? You remember how strict and protective he was.”
“He still is. Even though he lost his daughter, I am not going to deny him or Hermione’s father if they want to get to know her. They are her biological family but you and I? We are her parents and no one can tell us otherwise. She is a Potter.” James stated.
“I agree with you. She will need to know where she comes from. And by that I mean her parentage but it’s when she’s ready and old enough to know.”
James nodded. “Let’s get some sleep. Tomorrow will be another big day for our little girl seeing as we promised to introduce her to our extended family.”
“Last question before we actually go to sleep. What are we going to tell Sirius? He is Harry’s godfather and well for all intents and purposes, Hermione’s uncle. Did he even know about them?”
“That’s a question for Sirius to answer. While I’m not certain he knew his brother fathered a child, it’s possible Dumbledore didn’t want anyone to find out about Jean being married to one of the heirs of House of Black. Also partially given who Jean’s parents are.” James answered honestly.
Lily sighed, “I just hope when Sirius knows, he won’t threaten anything. Merlin knows how much he loved his brother.”
James nodded. “I’ve decided that I will make him take an Unbreakable Vow.”
“James, that’s absurd.” Lily admonished.
“I’m doing it to protect my family. I will not have anyone ruin it.”
“Let’s not argue please? I do get where you are coming from and I want to protect our babies as much as we can.” Lily said softly.
“Fine with me. Now let’s sleep.”
Closing her eyes, Lily felt James wrap his arms around her tightly.
“I love you Lily Potter.” James whispered.
“Mm..I love you too.” Lily sighed and she drifted off to sleep.
****
Early the next morning, while both James and Lily were asleep, Harry and Hermione were up laughing and talking. “Mummy told me that you get to meet some of our family.”
“I do?” Hermione whispered.
“Yeah! You’ll get to meet Draco and Theo. They are my best friends ever. You also get to meet my Uncle Sirius.” Harry beamed.
“Are they nice?” Hermione asked quietly.
Harry nods. “They are. I think they’ll like you. Uncle Sirius is super fun.”
“I hope they like me too.” Hermione whispers softly and she clutched her toy dragon tightly.
“Do you want to play?” Harry queried.
“Yes please.”
The two of them quietly got up and they slowly made their way to the enormous playroom that James recently set up for Harry.
“Mi?”
“Yeah Harry?”
“I love you sis.” The four year old said quietly.
“I love you too, big brother.”
****
Two hours later and it was now nearing eight-thirty and soon, James and Lily were woken up by the loud laughter and squeals. “Hm..the kids are awake.” James yawned as he stretched.
Yawning, Lily nodded in agreement. “What time are Lucius, Narcissa and their littles coming?” James asked while rubbing his eyes.
“I believe around 1-ish? They are also bringing Theodore sr, Althea, and little Theo.”
“Is that a good idea?”
“Is what a good idea?” Lily asked as she laid her head back onto his chest.
“Introducing Hermione to everyone at once.” James replied as he ran his hand down her back.
“It’ll be good for her to grow up with other kids her own age besides our son.”
James raised an eyebrow at her statement and teasingly replied, “And we’re sure that the Malfoy’s and Notts are good company?”
Rolling her eyes, Lily hit him softly, “We’ve been friends with them for years. And their children are practically Harry’s cousins.”
“You gotta point there.” James sighed.
“Now, shall we go see what our littles are up to?” Lily asked.
“If we must.” James smiled.
Once getting dressed, both James and Lily headed towards the kids room only to find it empty. Just as she was getting ready to call out Harry’s name, they heard squeals and laughter coming from the newly added playroom.
“Seems they are in the playroom. Let’s go get them and decide what we shall have for breakfast.” Lily said.
James nodded and he followed his wife to the playroom, where Hermione and Harry seemed to be playing with the mountain of toys that we ‘gifted’ to Harry over the last two and a half years.
“Well, I hate to break up this little party, but mum and I were wondering if you two were hungry?” James wondered.
“Uh-huh! Can we have French toast?” Harry chirped.
Hermione nodded in agreement, “Oh please!”
“French toast hm? What do you say mum? You want French toast?” James asks Lily.
“Oh sure why not, if that’s what they want.” Lily smiled.
Both kids cheered with excitement and soon, the family of four made their way to the kitchen where the Potter’s house elf was waiting patiently.
“Good morning Master Potter, Mistress Potter.” Tipsy beamed.
“Good morning Tipsy, the kids and I will be making breakfast if that’s okay? You can go pop into Grimmauld place and see if Kreacher needs help.” Lily said softly.
Tipsy wrings her hands, “Master and Mistress are okay with Tipsy going?”
James and Lily both nod in confirmation. With a snap of her fingers, Tipsy apparated from their home.
Poking Harry on the shoulder, Hermione whispered, “What was that?”
“That was our house-elf, Tipsy. She will make you anything you want and sneak you cookies and treats if you’re good.” Harry whispered back.
“Really?”
“Oh yes.”
“What are you two whispering about?” Lily asked as she began to accio a few ingredients to begin cooking.
“Nothing!” Harry smiled sweetly while Hermione nodded in agreement.
Lily shook her head at the two kids, “Let’s begin making breakfast my loves. The sooner we eat and clean up, the sooner your friends will be here.”
Harry’s little face perked up a bit, “Theo and Draco are coming?”
“Yes. We are also introducing your sister to them today.” Lily reminded him.
“Awesome!” Harry cheered.
“Are they nice?” Hermione asked while she watched Lily prepare the French toast. Lily nodded, “They are. I think you will be best friends with them.”
Hermione whispered, “I hope so.”
Sensing that her daughter's nerves were going to get the better of her, Lily then asked if they wanted to help.
“Yes please!” Both kids replied enthusiastically.
“Good, now Hermione, sweet girl, will you hold this plate for me? And Harry, will you grab the syrup from the pantry?”
Both kids obliged with the tasks Lily had given them.
As they continued to make breakfast, James walked in and he grinned as he watched his wife and his two little ones. “Well, if I didn’t know any better, I’d say that this was the happiest little family I ever did see.”
“Daddy! We’re making french toast.” Hermione beamed proudly.
“I see that princess. Now let me grab the plate from you before you drop the food you and mummy made.” James teased lightly.
“Okay.” Hermione agreed.
Grabbing the plate that Hermione was holding, James took it to the table where Harry was sitting patiently.
“Hungry son?” James wondered.
“Uh-huh!” Harry chirped.
Chuckling, James then served Harry a small portion of the French toast before doing the same with Hermione’s plate. Soon they all sat down at the table and ate their breakfast.
Nearly almost fifty minutes later, everything was cleaned and the kids were changed into their clothes for the day. As the family of four headed to the living room, the floo activated indicating someone had arrived.
“Oh prongs! Lily! Prongslet!” Sirius Black hollered.
Both James and Lily glanced at each other. “I thought he was arriving later?”
“Guess he changed his mind.” James shrugged.
“Uncle Padfoot is here?” Harry asked.
“Seems so, buddy. Hey, listen to me real quick, why don’t you take your sister and you two go play before we introduce Hermione to uncle Padfoot?”
Unsure of what to do, Harry nodded his head and he took Hermione’s hand and led her back to the playroom.
“Hello? Anyone home?” Sirius called out again.
“In the living area Sirius.” Lily said knowing he’d hear him.
Making his way through the halls of Potter Manor, Sirius was met with Lily and James. “Everything alright with you two? Is Harry alright?” He asked as he began to worry.
“We’re fine Sirius. We just um, have something to tell you but before we do, James has something he wants to tell you.” Lily says softly.
“Okay.” Sirius said as he sat down.
Breathing in deeply, James began to speak, “She’s alive Sirius.”
“ Who’s alive?” He asked.
“You’re niece.”
“That’s not possible. I would know if my niece was alive. And I certainly would know if my brother had a child, I would know about her or him. So what’re you playing at James?” Sirius asked heatedly.
“It’s true. Regulus fathered a child with Jean Rosier-Riddle.” James said.
Sirius stood suddenly and he yelled, “That’s a lie! Regulus’ is dead and he certainly did not fucking father a child!”
“Sirius, it’s true. You know we would never lie to you. And I don’t think Regulus is dead. He hid Jean and your niece for a reason. Do you remember Jean’s father?” Lily asked.
“Of course I do. Who could forget a wizard like Tom Riddle? He was very protective of his wife and his daughter. Come to think of it, Regulus was the only one who was able to date Jean because Tom knew that Reggie wouldn’t hurt her or anything.”
“So are you calm enough to meet her?”
“She’s here?” Sirius asked.
Lily nodded, “She is. She is with Harry. You should see them together, even though they only met last night, they seem inseparable.”
“I want to meet her if that’s alright with you two.”
James nodded, “And once you’re ready, we’ll introduce her padfoot.”
Sirius nodded.
“I’ll be back with the kids.” Lily said as she got up and headed towards the playroom where Hermione and Harry were.
A few moments later, Harry, Lily and Hermione walked into the room. “Hermione? Sweetheart, I want to introduce someone to you. This is your uncle Sirius Black.” Lily said.
Hermione gave him a curious look and she whispered quietly, “You look like my daddy.”
Sniffing softly, Sirius let out a watery laugh, “Your daddy is my little brother.”
“Like how Harry is my brother?” Hermione asked innocently.
“Something like that.” Sirius smiled.
Sirius then looked at James before asking a question, “Can I show her padfoot?”
Harry’s little face lit up at the mention of Padfoot. “Oh please daddy! Can he?”
James nodded, “I think Lily and I should explain to Hermione who Padfoot is before you do that, don’t you think?”
“I can agree to that.” Sirius said.
And ten minutes later, Hermione listened with rapt attention as her father explained what an animagus was and what kinds of animagi wizards and witches can turn into. They also watched as Hermione’s face lit up once Sirius turned into Padfoot.
“Hi padfoot.” Hermione giggled as Padfoot began to sniff and lick her face. “Mummy, daddy can padfoot play in the playroom with us?”
Before either parent had a chance to say anything, Harry piped up, “Please?!” and Padfoot let out a low whine.
Shooting a playful glare at his friend, James agreed and reluctantly so did Lily. “Just please don’t let Padfoot make a mess, if he does, your uncle has to clean it once he’s back.” Lily stated.
“Okay!” The two kids shout before running off with Padfoot who barked back in agreement.
Shaking her head, Lily spoke, “I think introducing Hermione to Padfoot was a bit much, no?” James gave her a look of confusion, “And why was introducing her to Padfoot a bit much?”
“Babe, she isn’t well educated in the wizarding world quite yet. And before you say anything, yes I know that Jean and Reggie are her parents and were most likely teaching her about it, but it seems she just needs time to readjust to her new normal and I think throwing magic into the mix will just confuse her.” Lily said.
“So what I’m gathering is that you would rather wait to teach her about the wizarding world? Given who her biological family is and given who we are?”
“No, that isn’t what I’m saying at all. I am merely suggesting that we teach our kids about the wizarding world together. And I mean introduce Harry and Hermione to everything.”
“Harry already knows what the wizarding world is like.” James replied as they began to hear laughter and squeals. “I know but just think of how much fun things will be as a family and we get to teach our daughter the joys of being a witch.”
James began to ponder the thought. “Does this mean introducing them to Hogwarts?”
“Not yet. I want them to be able to experience seeing Hogwarts when they turn of age. We can introduce them to Minerva and Hagrid.” Lily suggested.
“Sounds good, now let’s go see what our littles are up to.”
****
A few hours passed and it was nearly one in the afternoon when they once again heard the floo activate.
“Uncle Prongs! Aunt Lily!” Draco yelled, quite loudly.
Narcissa gave her son a look once she entered the room, “Draco Lucius Malfoy we do not need to yell son. This isn’t our home.”
“But mumm.” Draco whined.
“Draco.” Lucius said sternly.
“Sorry.” He whispered.
“Uncle Lucius! Aunt Cissa!” Harry yelled.
Both Lucius and Narcissa chuckled at the little boy who came barreling towards them. “Hello Harry, where are your parents?” Narcissa asked once she hugged him.
“In the living area with uncle Sirius and my sister.” Harry whispered.
Narcissa nodded.
Following Harry, the entire Malfoy family made their way to the living area where James, Lily, Sirius and Hermione were. “Cissa, Lucius, welcome. Where are Theodore and Althea?”
“They send their regards. It seems little Theo isn’t feeling well.” Narcissa replied.
“Oh no, I do wish him well though.” Lily said.
A few seconds passed and Hermione was suddenly aware of the newer faces in the room, and she clung to Lily.
Turning toward her daughter, Lily spoke softly, “Hermione sweetheart, this is Narcissa, Lucius and their little boy Draco. Why don’t you say hello?”
Pulling away from Lily, Hermione looked at the Malfoy family with nervousness.
“Hello.”
“Hello sweetheart, my name is Narcissa, but your brother calls me aunt Cissy.” Narcissa said as she introduced herself to Hermione.
“Hello little one, my name is Lucius, but you can call me uncle Lucius.” Lucius smiled warmly.
Hermione nodded.
“Hi I’m Draco.”
“Hi.” Hermione said. “Can I call you Mi? And do you want to come over to my house? I have way more toys than your brother.” Draco boasted.
“Do not!” Harry argued.
“I do too.” Draco argued back.
“Boys! Enough arguing please!” Lily and Narcissa chide.
“Aw but mum..” The boys began.
Hermione turned towards the men and asked, “Do they always act like this?”
Both Lucius and James chuckled and Sirius stifled a laugh. “You're in for it now princess. Draco and Harry love to make everything a competition.” James said as he scooped her up.

Chapter Text
(Four & a half years later, June 1989
Age: 8 ½ years old)
“Happy birthday Draco!” Hermione cheered as she watched her best friend (other than her brother) blow out his birthday candles.
“Thanks Mi.” Draco grinned.
“Alright kids! We’re going to move to the living area so Draco can open gifts!” Narcissa cheerfully announced.
At this, Draco cheered and he pulled Hermione and Harry with him. “Slow down Draco!” Hermione whined.
“Sorry.” Draco apologized quickly.
A few moments passed, before the adults walked in and they took their seats on the various couches in the room. “Alright my Dragon, you can begin opening your gifts.” Narcissa smiled as she sat on Lucius’ lap.
As Draco began to open his gifts received from everyone, his face lit up as he got to one of the presents from James and Lily. “Woah! Uncle Prongs, Aunt Lily! Quidditch World Cup tickets?!” He beamed.
James nodded, “The game is next weekend and we’re all going to the game including your dad as well.”
“Awesome!” Draco and Harry cheer.
Hermione made a face and she sighed, “Quidditch?”
“Yes Quidditch, my little love. Your brother and Draco love the sport. You can always stay with mum and aunt Cissa while we go.”
Turning towards her mum, Hermione asked, “Can we?”
“I think that’s doable, what do you say Narcissa?” Lily asked.
“That works for me. If it’s alright can my sisters come?” Narcissa asked.
“Of course! The more the merrier! And of course little Elara is coming too?” Lily inquired about the youngest Malfoy child.
“Yes. Actually I’m surprised she’s not out here playing with the kids. She’s normally glued to Hermione and Draco.” Narcissa commented.
Just as Narcissa finished her statement, Bellatrix walked in holding the child in question. “Mum!” Elara called out and she reached for Narcissa.
“Hi my little one. Did you have fun with Aunt Bella?” Narcissa asked her daughter while holding her close.
Elara nodded, “Uh-huh.”
“Good. Now why don’t you go play with your brother and his friends?” Narcissa said as she put down Elara.
“Okay mum!” The seven year old raced off toward her older brother and his friends.
Suddenly they could hear yelling and what one could imagine as rough-housing.
“Oh you’re on Harry!” Draco yelled as he grabbed his training broom and he made a dash for the gardens.
“Hold it right there, Draco Lucius Malfoy.” Lucius all but bellowed which made the nine year old stop immediately. “Daaaad.” Draco whined.
“Don’t ‘dad’ me, young man. Not in the gardens. Your mother’s garden is off limits, you of all people know this.” Lucius gave his son a knowing look.
“Fine.” Draco huffed.
“Harry! Draco wait up!” Theodore Nott jr yelled as he ran off to catch up with the two boys.
While the boys went to play a quick pick-up game of Quidditch, both Lily and Narcissa noticed Hermione sitting off alone.
“Hermione? Sweetheart, why don’t you go play?” Lily asks.
Wrinkling her nose, Hermione spoke, “Maybe later mum. Draco and Harry hardly mind me once their favorite sport is involved.”
“I think Lucius’ sister, Pandora and her husband were coming soon with their little girl.” Bellatrix mentioned as she took a seat next to Hermione. “What’s her name?” Hermione asks.
Bellatrix smiled, “Her name is Luna and she is the same age as you, Draco, Harry and Theo.”
“Oh and don’t forget about Theseus and Daria’s child, Pansy.” Lily says.
“And you’re forgetting about the others. You’ll get to meet Blaise Zabini and then the Greengrass twins.” Narcissa muses.
“Are they coming today too?” Hermione wondered.
Just as Narcissa was going to speak, the Malfoy’s house-elf, Topsy, arrived and announced the arrival of the Lovegoods, Parkinson and Greengrass families. “Wonderful! Thank you Topsy. Will you let Draco know that more of his friends have arrived?” Narcissa asks.
“Certainly Mistress Malfoy.” Topsy nodded and apparated to the gardens.
A few moments later, the boys ran in, looking quite dirty and sweaty. “Boys! You are a mess!” Narcissa and Lily exclaimed.
Sheepishly, the boys mutter, “Sorry.”
“Don’t fret, Cissa, darling.” Lucius began and with a wave of his wand, he uttered, “Scourgify.”
Within seconds all three boys were clean.
“Woah!” The boys marvel at the magic.
“A little cleaning spell.” Lucius smiled warmly at the boys who began to ask questions.
“You three along with Hermione will learn this at Hogwarts in a few years.” Lucius informs them.
“Why not now?” Draco asks impatiently. “Because it’s not time yet my dragon. Now you have more guests arriving.” Narcissa says.
“Who?” Draco asks.
“Your cousin Luna, Daphne, Astoria, and Pansy.”
Suddenly Draco grabbed Hermione’s hand and pulled her towards the other guest that were waiting.
“Hermione, dear, this is Luna Lovegood, she is Draco’s cousin, Daphne and Astoria Greengrass, and Pansy Parkinson.” Narcissa said while introducing everyone to her.
“Hello.” Hermione smiles politely.
“Hello, you’re Harry’s sister?” Luna asks.
“Yes.” Hermione nods.
Soon all the kids began to talk and introduce themselves a bit better while the adults went and talked.
“Merlin’s beard, she looks just like him.” Pandora observed quietly.
Lily sighed and she felt James wrap his arms around her and kiss her head. “She does.”
“So what do you two plan on doing if and I mean if the old headmaster finds out?” Daria asks genuinely curious.
James let out a dark chuckle, “If he finds out, he won’t know what hit him. From what Andromeda told us, this has Dumbledore written all over it.”
Selene Greengrass let out a gasp, “Do you really think he had something to do with Jean’s murder and Regulus’ disappearance?”
“It’s possible.” Lily confirmed.
“How could he do that to a young child though?” Pandora wondered as she watched the children play.
“Cause he is a manipulative bastard.” Lily seethed.
James rubbed his wife’s shoulders. “Hey…breathe. Dumbledore will have no say in how we raise our children. And once they get to Hogwarts, hopefully it will be Minnie running the place.”
“One can hope.” Theseus muttered lowly as they all watched their children run around and be carefree.
***
A few hours passed quickly, and all the adults knew it was only a matter of time before each child grew tired and restless.
“Alright my darling twins, it’s time to say goodbye to everyone okay?” Lily said as she noticed both of her children yawn repeatedly.
“But mum.” Harry began to protest just as he stifled a yawn by covering his mouth with his hand.
“No whining, Harry James Potter. You heard your mum. Go gather your things.” James stated as he gave his son a knowing look that would rival his own father’s. “Fine.” Harry grumbled and he stomped off in a foul mood.
“He gets that from you.” Lily commented quietly as she snaked her arms around him.
“Pfft..that little stunt was all you.” James countered back.
“Sure James, keep telling yourself that.”
A few moments later both James, Lily and the kids were ready to leave Malfoy Manor. “Don’t pout Harry. You will see us in a few days, no?” Narcissa asks her godson. “That’s so far.” He huffed.
Narcissa merely chuckled as she hugged both Harry and Hermione.
“Be good for your parents, yeah?” Lucius nodded towards the Potter twins.
“Yes uncle Lucius.” Hermione nodded. “Yes sir.”
The twins soon grabbed Lily and James’ hand and they stepped into the floo. Quickly and efficiently, James grabbed a handful of floo powder and called out their destination, “Potter Manor!”
Within a few seconds, the entire Potter family was pulled through the floo network and had safely landed in one of the fireplaces at Potter Manor.
Once stepping into their home, Lily quickly cast a scourgify on herself and the children. “Thank you mum.” Both kids chime and they begin to take off their shoes.
“Alright my twins, it is almost nine and I am certain you both are aware of what happens now.” James says.
“Shower then bed?”
“Correct little man.” James said as he ruffled Harry’s hair.
As the twins raced towards their rooms, James and Lily followed suit. Thirty minutes later, with both kids showered and in bed, each adult took their shower and were now nearly asleep in bed.
“Goodnight my love.” James whispered as he pulled Lily close.
“Goodnight my husband.”

Quidditch, Sleepovers and friends, oh my!

Chapter Text
The weeks following Draco’s birthday passed with ease, and before they knew it, both Harry and Hermione had turned nine years old as well.
“Mum! Can Pansy, Daphne and Luna spend the night as well?” Hermione asked.
“Of course, my darling.” Lily smiled.
“Yes!” Hermione cheered.
James peeked his head into the room, “Am I hearing that we’re hosting a sleepover for ALL the kids?”
Lily merely rolled her eyes at her husband, James. All the kids will be here, too.”
Just as James was going to speak, the floo activated and a few voices could be heard. “Oi! Potter family! The favorite uncle has arrived!”
“Oh goodie, Sirius is here.” Lily rolled her eyes playfully.
“UNCLE SIRIUS!” the kids yelled, and they bolted towards their uncle. Soon, both James and Lily could hear their peals of laughter. “Padfoot,” Hermione giggled out.
“Muuuuum? Daaaad? Can we go play with Padfoot outside pleaseee?” Harry asked.
“Only for a little while. But before you do, Sirius? Can we talk before you go play with the kids?” Lily asked, directing her question toward the Animagus.
Sirius shifted back from Padfoot. “What’s up, Lily?”
“We were thinking about taking the kids to visit Minerva and Hagrid in Hogsmeade, possibly this weekend. Would you like to come?”
Sirius grinned, “Hell yeah, I would love to come.”
“And Remus will be there too,” Lily smirked.
“Oh, will he?”
Lily nodded. “And I’m certain he will be enthusiastic to know you’ll be joining us.”
“Have you two made it official yet?” James asked, giving his friend a knowing look.
“No, we haven’t, but the prat knows we’re together. He is just hesitant because he knows how the wizarding world is. Since when has our world been accepting of two wizards together?”
“Sod the wizarding world. As long as you two are happy then that's all that matters.” James says as he wraps his arms around Lily.
Sirius scoffed, “Easy for you to say, James. You at least get to be married to the person you love.”
“Don’t worry, Sirius. If we have to go up against the Wizengamot, we will.” Lily reassured him.
“As if the Wizengamot will do anything.” Sirius rolled his eyes.
“They will if we have the minister on our side,” James said.
“And you really think Kingsley would be willing to help? He hardly wanted to help us before you had Harry. He thinks we’re below him.” Sirius shrugged, and he shifted back to Padfoot, effectively ending the conversation.
Lily sighed, and she shook her head at their stubborn friend.
“We can’t expect him to listen, Lils. He is his own person.” James reasons.
“I just don’t get why he thinks Kingsley won’t help him. I mean he helped us get Hermione’s adoption process to go smoothly.”
“It could be due to the fact that he is an animagus and given the fact that Remus is a werewolf. You do know that in the Wizarding World, werewolves are kind of frowned upon.”
Lily frowned at what her husband was implying, “It’s rubbish. Pure rubbish.”
“I know Lily.I know.” James said as he rubbed her shoulders.
“I’m going to Owl Amelia Bones. I’m sure she’d be more than willing to help. She loves Sirius and Remus. They were such good friends. I’m sure she won’t mind helping.” Lily stated, and she began to head towards their office.
“Alright. I’m going to check on the kids.”
“Make sure they are behaving and not creating a mess, yeah?” Lily said as she gave him a look.
“Yes, dear,” James grinned cheekily.
Lily rolled her eyes once more at her husband. “I love you husband.”
Pulling her close, James placed a quick kiss on her lips, and he pulled away, “I love you too, wife.”
****
Walking outside, James saw Harry and Hermione playing with their uncle.
“Dad!” Hermione yelled as she spotted him.
“Hi, my girl. Are you and your brother behaving for your uncle?”
As Hermione was going to speak, Harry piped up, “We’re being good!”
“Harry! I wanted to tell him!” Hermione huffed. “Oops.” He grinned cheekily.
“Enough you two,” One stern look from their father was enough to make them stop bickering.
“Where’s mum?” Hermione wondered.
“She is busy writing an owl to Amelia Bones,” James informed her. “Do you think she would let Susan come over?” Hermione asked innocently and she smiled sweetly.
James chuckled at his daughter, “We can ask.”
Merlin help me as she gets older . James thought as he watched Hermione and Harry chase after one another.
While watching his children, he felt the presence of Sirius, who seemingly changed back from Padfoot while the twins weren’t looking.
“You’re lucky, you know that?” Sirius mused.
“How so?”
“You and Lily got the life you’ve both always wanted.”
James gave Sirius an incredulous look, “You’re talking rubbish.”
“No, James, I’m not. Granted you two got lucky when you adopted my niece. Because all I know is that Regulus and Jean should be here with us and raising their daughter.”
James cut Sirius a dirty look, “You don’t think I know that? Even before we finalized Hermione’s adoption, she looked so much like your brother and her mother. Sirius, I know that I can never replace your brother, but I do think he’d be fine with me raising his little girl.”
Sirius let out a scoff and he muttered, “Jean’s father might have an objection.”
“And if he did, where is he? Like Lily and I said, if and if Riddle showed up, which I doubt he will, he will be able to see his granddaughter whenever he pleases.”
“And Regulus?” Sirius asked.
“Sirius..”
“No James, we both know that Regulus just disappeared. All because of Albus fucking Dumbledore and Jean was killed because of him and his dealings.” Sirius hissed.
James sighed and he pinched the bridge of his nose. “Fine, you’re right. Dumbledore is to blame for this shit show we call our lives and now in a few years we’re going to be subjecting the kids to it. But I sure as hell we’ll make sure that our dear old headmaster stays as far away from the twins and their friends.”
“Fine with me. Perhaps I could sway Minnie into letting us teach?” Sirius grinned.
The two men look at each other before bursting out in laughter.
“What’s so funny Dad?” Harry asked as he stopped right in front of them two. “Nothing son. Why don’t you and sister see if your mum is done with writing the owl to Miss Amelia?”
Harry nodded and he called for Hermione who followed him inside their house.
****
“Mum!” Both Harry and Hermione shouted.
Walking out of the office she and James shared, Lily smiled at her kids. “Hi, my loves. Where are your uncle and your father?”
“Dad and Uncle Sirius were still talking outside.”
“Hm, okay. Why don’t we get ready for your friends? I believe they will be arriving in just a few.” Lily said, hoping to keep them distracted while her husband and Sirius talked.
“Can we have tipsy bake us cookies?” Harry asked sweetly.
Lily shook her head at her son, “I’m sure Tipsy won’t mind, but that’s if you were to ask her.”
“Tipsy!” Harry called out.
Suddenly, the Potter’s house elf popped into the room. “Master Harry calls for Tipsy?”
“Tipsy, could you make cookies for our sleepover?” Harry asked nicely. “Oh yes! Tipsy is delighted to bake for Master Harry and Misses Hermione’s friends.” Tipsy nodded enthusiastically.
“Yes!” The twins cheered.
“Tipsy?” Lily said.
“Yes, mistress?”
“Please make extra cookies and sweets. You know my husband loves your baking,” Lily smiled encouragingly.
“Right away, Mistress!” And with a pop! Tipsy apparated away into the kitchen to begin baking.
“Mum? Do you think we can meet Miss McGonagall this weekend?” Hermione asked softly.
“You will, sweet girl. She cannot wait to meet you and your brother. You two will also meet Hagrid. He is the groundskeeper at Hogwarts.”
“Groundskeeper? What is that?” Harry asked.
“Well, Hagrid does tend to the gardens at Hogwarts. Performing special tasks for the Headmaster and Professors at the school. Looking after magical beasts on the school grounds.”
This little fact piqued Hermione’s interest. “Magical beasts?! What kinds of Magical beasts mum?”
Lily grinned at her daughter’s enthusiasm, “I believe a few hippogriffs, kneazles, nifflers, pygmy puffs, and Puffskeins ”
“Do you think we can see them?” Hermione asked.
“Once you’re at Hogwarts, my girl. Perhaps your father and I can look into getting you a familiar before you head to Hogwarts.”
“Really?”
“Yes,”
“Will Harry get one, too?” Hermione asked. “If he wants one.” Lily nods.
Thirty minutes had passed, and they could hear the floo activate several times.
“Aunt Lily! Uncle James!” Draco and Elara yell.
James grinned, “Why hello, my two favorite Malfoy children! I assume you two are here for the Potter sleepover, correct?”
“Uh-huh!” Elara nodded.
Both Lucius and Narcissa watch in amusement as James ushers their children into the living area. “Here is where you two will leave your belongings. Aunt Lily and I will set up the sleeping arrangements for tonight, and I believe Harry and Hermione are waiting for you outside.”
“Uncle Prongs, why are you acting silly?” Elara let out a few giggles as James ruffled her hair.
“Me? Act silly? Never!” He laughed. “You are acting silly Uncle Prongs! Did Aunt Lily hex you?” Draco wondered innocently.
At that suggestion, James and Lucius let out a chuckle. Just as James was about to speak, Lily chimed in, “No I did not hex Uncle Prongs, my sweet nephew. He just acts like this when he is around you kids. You know how he is.”
Draco nodded, and he asked, “Uh-huh. Where are Hermione and Harry?”
As if the twins knew Draco was talking about them, they walked into the room at the same time, followed by Lily and Sirius.
“PADFOOT!” Elara screamed, and she launched herself into his arms. “Well, well, hi, little miss Elara.” Sirius grinned. Taking Sirius’ face into her small hands, Elara looked into his eyes, “Are you staying here?”
Sirius glanced at Lily and James, who shrugged.
James sighed, “Sirius, you can stay if you’d like, but you will not bother the kids while they have their sleepover.”
The children let out cheers of glee. “Dad! Can we show Blaise and Theo that Uncle Sirius is an animagi?” Harry asked James.
“Hmm, it’s up to Uncle Padfoot.” James shrugged as Lily shook her head.
Suddenly, Sirius was surrounded by the twins and Draco, who pleaded with him. “Please, uncle Padfoot! Can we show our friends? Pleaseeee?” Draco and Harry wheedled.
“Well, I suppose so.” Sirius said to get the whining to a minimum finally.
“Yes!” The boys cheer.
While watching her brother and Draco interact with her uncle, Hermione felt out of place. She knew that Sirius loved them equally, but it felt different this time—like something was gnawing at her.
“Hermione? Sweetheart, Are you alright?” Lily asked her daughter. She had noticed that Hermione had gotten quiet during the interaction with Sirius and the boys.
Narcissa also noticed the slight shift change. “I think the boys can hang out for a bit while us girls have a small talk before everyone else gets here,” she shot Lily a look, and Lily nodded. "Girls? Let’s go up to Hermione’s room.”
Elara took Narcissa’s hand while Hermione latched onto Lily’s hand.
Before the girls left, Lily could feel James glancing at her and their daughter. “Everything alright?”
Lily flashed him a smile, “We’ll be back. We need a bit of girl time before the others show.”
“Lily..”
“James, please,” Lily said, cutting him off. “Alright,” James backed off.
Soon, it was just the guys, and they heard the floo sound a few more times before the rest of their friends finally showed up.
“Hi, Theo! Hi Pansy! Hey Blaise! Hi Daphne!” Harry said, and he then spotted Luna, “Hi Lu.”
The group let out a chorus of hellos.
“Where is Hermione?” Pansy wondered. “They are in our room with my mum and Aunt Cissa.” Harry chirped.
“Oh,” Daphne said, and then she looked at James. “Tipsy will take you to their room if you girls like?” James asked softly.
Each girl nodded, and not even a few moments later, Tipsy appeared and motioned for the girls to follow her.
“Well then, you boys fancy a quidditch pickup game?” Sirius grinned at the children.
“YEAH!” The boys yelled, and they followed the men outside to grab their brooms.

Once the girls were in Hermione and Harry’s room, the girls and Narcissa and Lily sat on the bed and on the bean bags that were in the room.
“What’s wrong, princess?” Lily asked as she brushed a piece of hair from Hermione's face.
“I—” Hermione began, and she could feel tears well in her eyes.
“Breathe, sweetheart,” Narcissa soothed softly as she smoothed her hair down.
Hermione sniffled, “Does Uncle Sirius like me?”
When the question left Hermione’s mouth, several gasps were heard throughout the room. “Girls? Why don’t you see if Tipsy needs help in the kitchen? Narcissa and I need to have a small talk with Hermione.” Lily said while glancing at the girls.
The girls nod, filing out of the room and heading to the kitchens.
“Hermione Jean Potter, your Uncle Sirius loves you and your brother so much. Your uncle just bonds better with the boys because of Quidditch, and they like the same things. You, on the other hand? He loves you so much, princess. He would do anything for you. You might not remember it, but your biological father is his younger brother.”
“I do kind of remember,” Hermione murmurs softly.
“Then you, my little princess, have nothing to worry about. Sirius loves you and the boys just the same.” Lily says as she smiles softly.
“Do you think Uncle Sirius and Dad will show me how to become an animagus?” Hermione asked. “They might, if you ask them.” Lily muses.
The nine-year-old nodded, “I think I might.”
“Now, let’s go back with everyone. I’m sure they are wondering if and when we are heading back down,” Lily said as she got up from her daughter’s bed. As they headed back downstairs, they could hear the whoops and hollering of the boys and the men, and they could only assume that they were playing a quick pick-up game of quidditch.
Both Narcissa and Lily cast a knowing look towards one another. “Boys and their games.” Narcissa grinned.
“Let’s go remind them to be careful,” Lily said.
Hermione followed her mum and Narcissa outside, where the game was taking place. She also saw the girls and Tipsy snacking on various foods Tipsy prepared for them.
“Hermione! Come join us!” Daphne and Pansy yell, gaining her attention.
Lily gave her daughter a soft nudge, “Go ahead, sweet girl,”
Hermione took off towards her friends and joined them.
“What did Tipsy make?” Hermione asked. “All of our favorites!” Daphne beamed.
“Oh, yay!” Hermione cheered.
While the girls talked and snacked on their favorite foods, they watched the quidditch match that was going on above them.
“Go, Harry!” Hermione cheered for her brother as he zoomed past them. “Careful, Harry James Potter!” Lily called out.
“Yes, mum!” Harry yelled.
The game only lasted about another forty-five minutes, and before they knew it, Draco had caught the snitch, effectively ending the game.
“You cheated!” Harry huffed. “I did not! Tell him, Uncle Prongs.” Draco rolled his eyes.
James patted Harry on the shoulders, and he tried to reason with his son, “Son, it was just a pick-up game. Next time, you’ll be the seeker for our team, and I’m sure your Uncle Lucius can convince Draco to be the chaser for their team next time, yeah?”
Harry pouted, “I guess.”
“Be nice, boys,” Lucius said.
“Sorry, Dad,” Draco mumbled. “Sorry, Uncle Lucius.” Harry uttered as well.
“Well, I do believe it is time for the boys to get cleaned up and ready for their sleepover, yeah?” James mentions. “Sounds like a good idea.” Lucius and Sirius agree.
“Alright, everyone! It’s time to get washed up and ready for bed. While you may choose not to sleep right away, we must get you situated so that us adults can relax as well. Also, Tipsy will be around if and if you need her.” James explains once they have all the kids inside the manor.
Each child nodded in agreement.
“Are we still going out to London tomorrow?” Hermione asked softly after he finished speaking.
“You will be along with the girls, Aunt Narcissa, Andy and Bellatrix.”
“Aunt Bellatrix is going too?” Elara asks excitedly.
“She is my darling girl. She is looking forward to seeing all of you tomorrow.” Narcissa confirmed.
“Yay.” Elara smiled softly.
After confirming their plans for tomorrow, the kids began to clean themselves up and meet in the living area, where they found their sleeping bags had been laid out for them.
Hermione quickly found her sleeping bag, opened it, and lay down and got comfortable.
Once she had gotten situated, she let out a sigh of contentment.
“You okay, Mi?” Harry asked her.
“Uh-huh.”
A few moments passed before Harry spoke again, “Mi? What did you, Mum and Aunt Cissa talk about earlier?”
“It was nothing. I promise.” Hermione said as she shook her head at her twin.
“You’re not lying to me, right?”
“No, I’m not. When have I ever lied to you?” Hermione asked him. “Never,” Harry mumbled.
“Exactly. Why would I start now?”
“I dunno. You just seemed upset, and I didn’t like that.” Harry confessed.
“But I’m okay now,” she began. I have all of my friends and my twin brother with me.”
“Pinky promise?”
Hermione sat up a bit, reached over, and looped her pinky with Harry’s, “Pinky promise.”
