Work Text:

The full moon waned, leaving Remus Lupin exhausted and drained. His body felt like it had been through a grinder, every muscle screaming in protest. But it wasn't just the aftermath of the transformation that left him in agony; it was the chronic pain that plagued him day in and day out.

Sirius Black, his closest friend and confidant, watched over him with a mix of concern and love. He knew Remus too well not to see through the facade of strength the werewolf put on.

"Remus, you need to rest," Sirius urged, his voice laced with worry.

Remus managed a weak smile, though it didn't quite reach his tired eyes. "I'll be fine, Padfoot. Just need a moment."

But Sirius wasn't convinced. He had seen Remus struggle too many times before, hiding his pain behind a stoic mask. This time, Sirius decided, he wouldn't let him suffer alone.

"I'm not leaving you like this," Sirius declared, his tone firm. "I'll stay with you until you're feeling better."

Remus opened his mouth to protest, but the pain flared up again, cutting off his words. He nodded weakly, grateful for Sirius' unwavering support.

With gentle hands, Sirius helped Remus settle into bed, arranging the pillows to provide some comfort. He sat by Remus' side, offering quiet reassurances as he watched over his friend.

As the hours passed, Remus drifted in and out of restless sleep, the pain a relentless companion. Sirius stayed by his side, offering comfort and support whenever Remus needed it.

In the quiet of the night, Remus finally spoke, his voice hoarse with pain. "I don't know how much longer I can keep doing this, Sirius…it's unbearable sometimes."

Sirius reached out, taking Remus' hand in his own. "You don't have to do it alone, Moony. I'm here for you, always."

Tears welled up in Remus' eyes, a mixture of gratitude and exhaustion. He squeezed Sirius' hand, drawing strength from his presence.

As the first light of dawn peeked through the curtains, Remus felt a moment of respite. The pain hadn't vanished entirely, but it had dulled enough for him to catch his breath.

"Thank you, padfoot " Remus whispered, his voice barely above a whisper.

Sirius smiled softly, brushing a stray lock of hair away from Remus' forehead. "Anytime, Moony. We'll get through this together."

And in that moment, as the sun rose on a new day, Remus knew that no matter how fierce the pain, he had someone by his side who would never let him face it alone.

Days turned into weeks, and Remus' chronic pain continued to weigh heavily on him. Despite his best efforts to hide it, Sirius could see the toll it was taking on his friend.

One evening, as they sat by the fire in the Gryffindor common room, Remus winced as a sharp pang shot through his side.

Sirius noticed immediately, his concern growing. "Are you alright, Remus?"

Remus forced a smile, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "Just a twinge, nothing to worry about."

But Sirius wasn't convinced. He reached out, placing a hand on Remus' shoulder. "You don't have to pretend with me, Moony. I know it's more than just a twinge."

Remus sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "I'm sorry, Sirius. I just hate feeling like a burden."

"You're not a burden, Remus," Sirius insisted, his voice firm. "You're my friend, and I will help you however I can."

Remus began to tear up. He had really been crying too much in the past few weeks.

"I don't know what I'd do without you, Sirius."

Sirius pulled Remus into a tight embrace, holding him close. "You'll never have to find out, Moony. I'll always be here for you."

And in that moment, as they clung to each other in the warmth of the firelight, Remus knew that no matter how dark the days ahead might seem, he had someone by his side who would light the way, not just as a friend, but as something more.

As the night wore on and the fire crackled softly in the hearth, Remus found himself lost in Sirius' gaze. There was something in the way Sirius looked at him, something that made Remus' heart skip a beat.

Without thinking, Remus leaned in, closing the distance between them. Their lips met in a gentle kiss, a silent promise of love and support.

For a moment, the world fell away, leaving only the two of them, bound together by something stronger than friendship. And in that moment, Remus knew that no matter what challenges they faced, as long as they faced them together, they would overcome anything.

As they pulled away, breathless and smiling, Remus whispered, "I love you, Sirius."

Sirius' eyes sparkled with emotion as he whispered back, "I love you too, Remus."

And in that moment, surrounded by warmth and love, Remus knew that no matter what the future held, as long as they had each other, they would always find their way home.
