Work Text:
Michael Knight a human and his best friend the Knight Industries Two Thousand a sophisticated self-aware computer inside the chassis of a Pontiac Trans AM are currently inside the garage of their retirement home. Their lives are peaceful now compared to the lives they had previously working for the Foundation for Law and Government. Michael felt it was time to retire and was very relieved that Kitt decided to retire with him. The AI too felt he had done his duty as well and wanted to live with Michael with no desire to be partnered with anyone else.
They spent this particular day fishing at the nearby lake with Kitt of course complaining about the odor of dead fish inside his trunk detected by his Olfactory Sensor. Fortunately said dead fish were also in a cooler so once Michael removed the cooler, the odor also lessened much to the relief of the car. The fish turned out to be dinner for the man and afterwards decided a little television viewing would be a welcome change of pace.
Michael and Kitt only recently started watching TV together as another form of recreation although several times Michael had remind Kitt to suspend his disbelief when it comes to science fiction programs. They're currently watching a series on Kitt's monitor called Lexx during the fourth season of the show and is near the conclusion.
Kitt already caught up to the previous episodes by accessing transcripts of the show by way of the internet and using his speed reading program to read through them all. While the AI was reading the transcripts, he commented out loud about the illogic of the show especially flying space bugs and in particular the huge dragonfly-like Lexx, the character Zev and later on the clone Xev (both a love slave) being part cluster lizard, 790 a robot head (who had the love slave programming accidentally downloaded into it) who at first was in love with Zev then with Kai who's a dead? undead? assassin and finally Stanley H. Tweedle a level 4 (the lowest level due to his 991+ demerit points) ex security guard in general. All Michael does is roll his eyes and laugh while Kitt continues his commentary. The response from Kitt is the usual, "Really, Michael."
The pair are now watching the last episode and have reached the part in which the Lexx has reached Earth in order to destroy the alien asteroid literally attached to the planet...
"Michael, I know I'm supposed to suspend my disbelief but this is ridiculous. How on earth and I mean it in the literal sense are the characters supposed to destroy this asteroid when the Lexx is obviously malfunctioning. I feel sorry for him," Kitt said while his instrument panel brightens for a moment.
"We have to keep watching, Buddy. They'll find a way," Michael replied distracted by 790's insult of Xev by calling her 'Space Slut'.
Kitt now observes 790 taking advantage of Stan's absence and Lexx's wandering mind when the robot head starts discussing with the Lexx about liking to blow up planets. He decides to point out, "Michael! 790 is devious. He knows Lexx is old and forgetful. You don't think he wants to blow up the earth does he?"
"Sure looks that way. You know 790 will do anything for Kai even if it means blowing up the earth in order for people not to bother 'his man'," Michael clarifies.
"Michael, I don't like it when 790 tells Lexx he's getting and I quote 'stupider by the minute.' Thank goodness we don't have robots like that in real life," Kitt said somewhat upset.
"Like I said, Pal. It's science fiction however yeah I like the Lexx too. He's been a good ship. Kind of reminds me of you sometimes," Michael said affectionately.
"Oh?"
"Yeah, Lexx like you has emotions. He stated he will miss Stan. I think, he knows he's dying and wanted to let Stan know he's very fond of him by telling him he's his favorite captain."
"I see. Thank you, Michael."
They're now at the part Kai starts to feel emotions and stays behind to attach the Higgs-Boson collider to his moth. He barely escapes from the earth with the collider when the now totally forgetful Lexx blows up the planet by obeying 790's command. Lexx afterwards rambles about 'The universe is glowing. One last good bang.'
"Damn it, Kitt. You were right. 790 took advantage of Lexx and now the only way to destroy the asteroid is to blow it up from within." Michael said while grabbing a stick of gum from inside Kitt's glovebox.
They watch the part in which 790 explains the reason why for the destruction of earth. Stan, Xev and Kai fly towards the asteroid in their moths with Kai the only one able to go inside it. Prince or Death as he called himself fulfills a promise made by making Kai alive again. 790 in despair when he realizes Kai may actually die for good and finally the Lexx itself is smoking and shuddering.
"Both of them are going to die soon, Michael. Kai and Lexx," Kitt said sadly.
"Afraid so, Pal," Michael agrees as Kai starts to sing.
Yo Way Yo
Yo Way Yo Hom Var Ray Yo Ay Ra Jerum Brunnen G
Xev sings along with Kai and even Stan mouths the words...
Yo Way Yo Hom Var Ray Yo Ay Ra Jerum Brunnen G
Yo Ay Ra Jerum Brunnen G
Michael and Kitt watches on Kitt's monitor, Kai crashing at the center of the asteroid and is thrown clear from his moth. Bleeding he looks at the collider as the numbers 1313131313 are locked on the display and laughs before the asteroid blows up. It collapses back in on itself until only the stars remain. Soon after the Lexx starts to slowly disintegrate, it's outer layers drift off into space before it explodes. 790 survives and is now in space - alone and crying.
There's also a sign of hope with the birth of Little Lexx who looks much like his father except he's greener, has legs, a shorter tail and a light like an angler fish on top of his head. Stan and Xev are inside Little Lexx's bridge and are amazed at the smaller ship's blue interior with it's many view ports (eyes?). Stan introduces himself as captain and a blue light at first 'flies' towards Stan before it's absorbed into his right hand. It's 'the Key'. Little Lexx has a new captain - Stan and will only acknowledge commands from him. Little Lexx is given the order to find a new home.
In the meantime 790 starts to recite a poem for Kai and is promptly swallowed up by Little Lexx as a snack.
"Good! 790 got his just reward," Kitt remarked satisfied with the robot head's fate. "Interesting series, Michael. Most of it doesn't make any sense to me but is still interesting. What show will we watch next?"
"That's it for today, Kitt. I'll let you know. In the meantime I'm going to sleep, it's late and I'm tired. Good night, Pal," Michael said sleepily and at the same time gives Kitt an affectionate pat on top of the dashboard.
"Good night, Michael. Sweet Dreams," Kitt replies fondly while responding to Michael's touch by warming his dash slightly.
Another night of television viewing together to end a perfect day.
