Work Text:
In the early days of the Beatles, George Harrison and Ringo Starr would sometimes share a bed, for a brief period before the band became big.
Together the two men would assure their heterosexuality, by being just good mates, and clearly nothing more.
“We’re like brothers!” John Lennon would describe the fab four, and that’s how the band saw thing’s during these little awkward situations.
“Good night.” The lead guitarists would say to the drummer, as a friend.
“Good night George.” The drummer would simply answer back.
As just a friend of course!
The close companions would sleep side by side as they each fell asleep.
And, although they didn’t like talking about it much, they often awoken in each other’s embrace.
“George just doesn’t know who he’s cuddling with when he’s asleep.” The drummer would say of the lead guitarist’s of the band, choosing to forget how soundly he slept with the youngest Beatles heart beat in his ear.
*************
Then things happened, and soon there was a kiss, and eventually the pair began making love. The sex was always wild and intense, but in the end, the two would hold each other afterwards, still awake.
George would push himself down the bed enough the be at head level with Ringo, so the youngest Beatle could get lost in those blue eyes.
“I love you.” One would whisper.
“I love you too!” the other would say back, then the two men would drift off to sleep, in the greatest of slumber’s, with their naked bodies intertwined together.
*************
Years later, after the Beatles ended, George and Ringo tried hard to keep their secret relationship. However, George slept with Ringo’s wife Maureen, and the two parted ways for a time.
Yet, whenever a beautiful woman wasn’t in either of their beds, the two musicians just slept alone, with bitter tears to accompany the bittersweet memories, of love and lust, but also backstabbing betrayal.
At night, each solitary figure laid in a large bed, larger than they could have imagined when they were young, alone.
Despite the warm blankets and the down pillows, nothing warmed the cold break-up, and the sharp pain each man felt in his chest, whenever thinking about the other.
“I love you Rich.” George would whisper in the darkness, holding a long pillow close to his body. “I’m sorry.” The man would further utter, while crying himself to sleep in his pillow.
“I hate you both!” Ringo would say aloud, in his lone room, in a big house void of human life except for himself. The drummer was thinking about both lovers who stabbed him in the heart.
Then Starr would down the rest of his spirits, and often awoke holding the empty bottle to his chest.
The drink was his love now!
*************
Then, right before the 1970’s ended, the pair were back together, and holding each other close, as before.
“I’m sorry I hurt you.” A teary eyed George would proclaim.
“I’m sorry I hurt you too!” Ringo would cry back while in a drunken stooper.
“I love you! I will never betray you again!” Harrison sincerely promised.
“I love you too!” Starr replied. “And shall never take your love for granted again.”
Right afterwards, the lovers would collide in a passionate oral embrace, and press their naked bodies close.
They had lost their band, and their first wives, but at least the two of them were back together.
As the lover’s slept, with George resting his head upon Ringo’s chest, making the shortest man the tallest in the bed.
Harrison would do anything to make those blue eyes shine!
*************
In the 1980s, the men were still holding each other. Although Ringo was usually a drunken mess, but George didn’t mind.
The lead guitarists would hold his boyfriend while staring into those bloodshot eyes, which were still the bluest blue the lead guitarist had ever seen.
Sure his boyfriend could be a little sloppy while intoxicated, but Ringo was still so adorable to the younger man, especially after they made love.
“I loooove yer.“ an intoxicated Ringo would then proclaim.
“I love you too.” George would then say, but more times than not, his drunk boyfriend would already be asleep.
The smaller man would just snore gently, as George would simply smile, while he wrapped the sleeping lush in his arms.
*************
When the 1990s came around, Ringo had gotten sober, and was no longer a drunken mess. He was nervous being with a man without a drink, but George was loving and patient, giving his friend in recovery a chance to feel normal again.
The two shared intense sex, staring into each other’s eyes as they each popped their cork. Kissing deeply, the pair held nothing back. They loved each other, and for thirty years they shared their passions, and held each other with no desire to ever let go.
“I love you baby.” George said, holding his boyfriend tight. It no longer matter that they were always at eye level, in fact Ringo loved being cuddled.
“I love you too!” the smaller man replied deep in his lover’s embrace. He really did love being in George’s arms, and the feeling of being cared for felt so good, he felt ridiculous about being insecure about his height difference, for all those many years.
And that’s how they fell asleep, with Harrison holding his baby, and Ringo listening to his boyfriend’s heart beat in its heavenly rhythm.

Before the men born in the 1940’s knew it, the year 2000 had crept upon them. They were old!
Yet, age was just a number, and the two made love as best they could.
Unfortunately, things were difficult now, because George had cancer. Still being close together was a greater joy than an orgasm. The kiss, touch, rubbing off, sufficed, but George couldn’t resist making his boyfriend pop.
Stroking the drummer’s massive meat until he peaked, George joyfully watched those blue eyes roll to the back of his head. Then the drummer suddenly began to cry.
“I can’t lose you!” Starr wildly burst out in tears, seeking Harrison's chest while it was still there. Tears rolled down the drummer’s cheek, as his sick lover squeezed him close.
“All things must end.” The younger lover wisely replied, with his long guitar playing fingers running through Starr’s brown locks of hair.
Then fixating upon those blue eyes, George spoke from the heart.
“I don’t want to leave you, or Olivia or Dhani.” The dying man proclaimed, fighting back his own tears. “But even when I’m gone, I will always be with you, especially when you need me the most.” He further promised.
“I don’t know how I can go on, without these precious moments we share together.” Ringo stated, trying to be strong for his lover who was deathly ill!
“You need to be here for Paul.” George told those teary blue eyes. “He’s been all alone since John died.” The youngest ex Beatle added, crying himself.
Together they held each other close. Ringo was slightly lower, but each man rested their head upon the others shoulder.
“I love you always!” Ringo cried.
“My love for you transcends this life, and all the material aspects of this world.” George declared holding his boyfriend’s head in his hand. “Promise me, you’ll be there for Paulie, and he will be there for you!”
Crying, Ringo nodded, and held George so tight, he never wanted to let go!

In the mid 2000’s, Ringo Starr rented a hotel room, he and George had once shared. The décor was different, in fact nothing was the same.
The wallpaper was gone, the carpet was a different color, and the two twin beds, in which they curled in close in the one by the door, was replaced by a single king size mattress.
Alone in the dark, the drummer squeezed his pillow and stared into the blackness surrounding him.
“Are you here George?” he whispered into the night. There was no answer, so quietly, the teary eyed lone lover fell asleep.
When the morning came, Starr opened his blue eyes, only to be reassured he was still alone, which bitterly burned his heart.
He only planned to stay for the one night, so thinking about his free continental breakfast, the man arose to get dressed, when he found a soggy mess in his pants.
Holy shit, he hadn’t had a wet dream in years. That’s when the man realized he wasn’t really alone last night.
George must have been with him, in some form, that transcended life itself!
“I love you.” Ringo said into the room before he left. Then suddenly the light flickered a little, and the living man saw this as George saying “I love you” from beyond the grave.
*************
In the 2010’s, Ringo Starr was again sleeping in his lovers arms. It was a different man, but someone he loved.
“I love you.” Paul McCartney told the drummer of his former band, becoming lost in the same blue eyes the now late George Harrison loved so much!
“I love you too, Paulie.” Ringo followed, and the pair kissed.
“I know you miss George.” McCartney noted.
“And I know you miss John.” Starr replied back.
“Do you think they would approve of the two of us together?” the bassist wanted to know, when suddenly the lamp light lightly flickered for a second, receiving both men’s attention from the bed.
“I think they’re alright with it.” The drummer assured, as he kissed his now boyfriend with the same passion he had for George.
“John used to say we were like brother’s.” Paul said mentioning the man he had loved and lost.
“Well, we’re more than that, and have been for a long time!” Ringo proclaimed, as McCartney snuggled in close.
“I love you John.” Paul said to the lamp beside the bed, that had flickered.
“I love you George.” Ringo whispered, gazing upon that same lamp.
Then Paul cuddled into Starr’s chest, like George used to, when Starr needed to feel tall.
Holding another man burying against his breast, Ringo couldn’t help but reflect on how beautiful these moments in bed really were.
Both now and then!
