Dream Guide’s Living Nightmare

Summary:

What if Meena was behind some of what the dream chapters entailed of PPT1 and Squares took notice before taking “care of the problem” himself?

Work Text:

Meena whimpered, tail between her legs as she was cornered. Her ears swiveling behind her as she gripped her balloon as tight as she could. Her mask was painted with blue, representing sweat on her face, but her paintbrush had been dropped long ago, so both her paws were holding her balloon.

“Come on! Come on! I have to run! He’s- He’s so mad!” Were the thoughts running rampant in her head. Yet she smacked into a blocky wall, making her slow down. Wait- That wasn’t a wall, that was a cube! Oh no, oh no—

“There you are, Dream Guide.” His voice hissed as she felt him loom over her tiny form. “Care to explain what you’ve done?”

“Ah- Ah-“ Meena trembled in place, forced to face the other. He was tall, a stern face, an unhappy face. She knew just instantly who he was… A Watcher! But wasn’t there only one Watcher? Was this new? The Watcher had never been mad at her…! They never really met before but she knew she existed—

“Answer me.”

“I don’t- I don’t know what you’re talking about!”

“You do.” Squares narrowed his eyes, “We saw it ourselves. You’re letting them meet up in dreams, the Puzzle worlds. The Puyo and Tetris worlds cannot mix, do you understand me?!”

“It’s not my fault! It’s just their dreams! I just- I just wanna make them happy!” Meena nearly sobbed on her fear, “It’s their d-dreams! I can’t not let them dream th-them!”

“Hmph.” Squares seemed even angrier at that answer, “Marle said something similar. I should’ve expected that.”

“I’m- I’m just doing my job! I’m not- I’m not powerful enough to do something like mixing all by own! It must have been them who wanted— eep!” The Dream Guide shut her mouth when she noticed Squares grit his teeth and glare at her harder.

“Just doing your job?” Squares sneered, before turning away, Meena never feeling her heart beat in her chest so fast before, “You do a poor job at it, trying to stop me. I’m just doing mine.”
