Chapter 1: The Stone of Wishes
Chapter Text
It was just a normal day in the demon realm as Demon Arut was supervising the training of certain demon soldiers. The room was filled with massive and tiny weapons, whether they were sharp or just weighed tons, they looked a lot like the one used in the Empire for human soldiers.
Well, humans and demons were similar in training methods and the only difference between them was their appearance. Even their way of thinking was similar to each other’s.
As the day unfolded as usual, a soldier returned from his expedition with a strange stone. He took care of bringing it in the castle carefully in a large tissue to not risk anything. There was already a risk since he decided to bring it to the demons’ residence but hey- It’s for the sake of this fanfiction’s plot!
The stone was in a shade of purple between amethyst and violet. She tanged more on the second colour so they assumed it was characterized by this one. He decided to give it to the demon king who could hand it to someone capable of analysing it.
The person in charge of the mission was the doctor of the castle, Ben, who searched in a grimoire what the object was. They finally found its description with the help of the other commanders. Its name was “The Stone Of Wishes”.
They decided to try its power on Demon Arut without his authorisation. After all, they knew he wouldn’t have accepted the request for sure. They didn’t know much about him except for his strength in the battlefield but they had the premonition that he wouldn’t accept the demand.
The poor boy didn’t know they brought a new artefact in the castle and only heard rumours about a certain stone with a weird shade of purple. That was the principal reason of why he didn’t mind or gave attention on what was happening that day.
When this particular stone is approached near a person in a rayon of one meter, the rock will enlighten itself but the action wasn’t this bright since it couldn’t blind anyone in the process of its functioning. Its power was in sum simple.
It could teleport the most trusted and/or loved person of ones when approached. The person could be dead for all it cares, so dead or alive, a person will appear taking the place of the stone in the process after some time and the time limit can be estimated to hours. Even a day at maximum.
Cavert, the demon king, wanted to be assured that his precious Demon would choose their side and not the human’s. It was the major reason on why he accepted to test the stone’s powers on the 0th corps commander. The other involved are Ed, Asild, Edellia, Jaykar, Ririnell and Velitan and since the scene was happening while Demon was supervising the training of soldiers, the said soldiers were also part of the audience.
The reason on why they were all okay with the test was because they wanted to know who was their dear commander’s most loved one or the one most considered as an ally, perhaps even a friend.
« Sir Arut! » exclaimed Ririnell. The girl jumped excited at the view of the white haired commander.
The demon king was also part of the squad as all the others joined the party when they discovered the effects of the violet stone.
To be honest, Deon was more than terrified at the view of so many powerful demons heading his way. He panicked and it clearly was shown on his face. However, instead of a scaredy cat’s face, he had a cold aura and a menacing gaze that froze everyone. You can say that it only contributed at the misunderstanding between their assumptions on Demon’s personality and his true nature.
« Wow, Lord Arut must be in a really bad mood… » whispered Ed.
They nonetheless approached the crimson-eyed man as the demon king introduced them as well as an explanation for their sudden interruption of the training. The soldiers stopped their training and directed their gaze at the scene happening before them.
It was a huge relief because they felt oppressed under the 0th corps commander stare that was again misunderstood because the latter was only stressed and anxious on how to keep low profile for the rest of the day.
« We apologise for the interruption Lord Arut but we currently have an urgent matter to deal with. » *Jaykar*
Deon screamed in his head imagining all kind of scenarios as his fear to be discovered as the coward he truly was rising and increasing his heartbeat.
« May I know the role I’ll play in this matter? »
The words slipped out of his mouth without him noticing or being aware of it moving. It was like someone else said it and spouting some words while he was just stuck unconscious in his own body.
« We need you to look at this stone Arut. » *Demon king*
The demon kind handed the stone to Demon Arut without waiting for his response. The boy didn’t have a choice to begin but the moment he took the stone to examine it, it started to emit a faint glow of gold that still blinded him since he had sensitive eyes.
Having albinos is not as simple as it seems. Although it wasn’t that long since they gave the man’s the stone, they were getting impatient to see the result of their experience. Demon Arut was a human difficult to read. He was a cold blooded commander that is powerful with an insatiable blood thirst. The curiosity grew more and more and after seconds that appeared to take hours of waiting…
« What is the meani- »
Demon couldn’t finish his sentence though as a familiar silhouette stand before his eyes. He thought this same person was dead for a long time… The person he blindly followed and trusted with all his heart was in front of his very own eyes…
He could see the light brown hairs which remained intact even with the messiness of the war, the green calming eyes that he could stare at for hours and the familiar scar on the left of the boy’s face. Silence fell in the room. We could even hear a fly pass by but when noticing the tension, leaving the room to maybe the wine one.
The boy that appeared out of nowhere looked around him confused on the circumstance as the people who planned this had their mouth agape and widened eyes. They did not expect such a turn of events. They thought it’d be one of the demons in this realm or the emperor or someone that looked like their commander who they could justify as a relative.
It turns out the result was everything but expected. After understanding where he was and accidently not seeing his precious past friend, the boy quickly grabbed his sword with a fight posture ready to attack at the slightest movement of the enemy but he quickly stopped when he heard a way too familiar voice.
« S-sir hero…? »
The astonishment was general. In Cassius’ case and the demons’. For Cassius, he thought he was long gone and when he faced his past teammate who he untrusted to his powers standing before him, the shock was too sudden. And for the demons’ case because the 0th corps commander just stuttered…
Well, it was quite an exaggeration but knowing the side they knew about Lord Arut, no one would believe the man could look this defenceless and vulnerable. Ririnell didn’t accept the fact that it wasn’t her that Arut liked the most and the demon king was struggling to find an explication to these events. Was Demon Arut on their side or the Empire’s since the person he liked the most was the past hero before his death on the battlefield?
« Am I hallucinating after so long? »
Of course, Deon already had a lack of self-esteem so he just put the blame on his imagination. It wouldn’t be surprising if he had gone insane after all the stress he had to go through since the pause in the war.
You can say that the day was quite messy in the demon realm after people witnessing their beloved commander being hugged by the past hero of the Empire.
Chapter 2: Crying is better when someone is here by your side
Notes:
This is only a continuation of the previous scene. I felt like it was incomplete especially the end like everything was in one sentence!!!… Sorry for the 4 months of wait… like I forgot I had this work in my documents hehe-
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Maybe he was finally losing it for good? Who knows? Maybe it will even result him in escaping from this hell of situation- Who is he kidding. He’s never leaving this hell anytime soon. He better be resolved to the idea of suffering for the rest of his lifetime.
Deon’s pupils were shaking as the emotions surged within him, not one at a time but simultaneously. He had a sneer plastered on his face and parted his lips to fill his lungs with air. He truly felt like he was out of breath and would collapse at any given moment…
His vision started to blur and everything around him was trembling then spinning. The more he thought about it, the more he felt like his body was getting lighter. The demons around him were nothing except vague dark silhouettes in the distance. He couldn’t pinpoint what was happening to him but he had a hunch that it had something to do with the previous hero’s apparition.
The white haired boy couldn’t continue this way or he might really pass out at this point onward so he did what seemed to him like a smart move and placed his hand on top of his heart. It was beating at a pace he couldn’t keep the track of, it wasn’t even in sync with his laboured breathing!
Somethings was off right now… Definitely… He just can’t get his hand on it…
In a matter of a quarter of second, his knees gave up.
« So that’s what gave me an off feeling… »
He should have known, who couldn’t notice that their knees were getting weaker by seconds and menaced to give up sooner than expected. He already prepared himself to encounter the floor head on but 1, 2, …
Seconds passed and he didn’t feel the impact at all.
He definitely didn’t receive the shock but he felt a particular warmth against his body. It wasn’t unpleasant, rather the opposite, and he almost felt like time had frozen. Strong and steady arms wrapped around his waist and encircled his figure.
« Careful, Deon. »
The past hero was so close to him; he could feel his breath on his ear as he continued to speak.
« You might hurt yourself if you’re not cautious. »
He barely had time to register what was happening to him when Cassius retreated leaving Deon with only the ghost sensation of their previous embrace.
I can still feel his warmth on my skin… Thought the white haired head in the room.
After recuperating enough to be able to think, he closed his mouth who happened to be open the entire time and a wave of embarrassment made its way in him, leaving the latter with a faint blush he would never admit to. Clearing his throat, he let his eyes lingering around the room.
The demon’s mouths were agape and you could hear the sound of weapons clattering on the ground but they were so absorbed by the scene, they didn’t mind it at all. The group who was responsible for the incident had different reactions. The Demon King looked like he was thinking deep and was questioning the choices of his life; Ed had a complicated expression who tanged between protectiveness and disbelief; Ririnell looked heartbroken and the other commanders had perplexed expressions on their face…
He took a sharp breath through greeted teeth and turned his gaze towards the man who caused all this turmoil in him. Seeing a ghost from the past isn’t an experience he wished to have and if not for the ghost in question being Cassius, he wouldn’t want to renew the experience in his entire lifetime.
His body was until now shaking and on the verge of collapsing a second time. What did he do in his past life to have such a weak body?!
« Is everything okay? »
When Deon looked up, he met green eyes staring worriedly in his owns. It felt weird, never had anyone glancing at him this way before; it was either a glaring mess or avoiding eye contact with him. He preferred the second option though, being ignored is better than being hated and being the source of everyone’s attention.
« I guess so… H-How are you- »
« Alive? » Cassius put his fingers on his chin. « No idea but since you were the person I saw first; I have no complaints. » He smiled widely for Deon to see.
He wasn’t complaining either, the company was rather pleasant in all honesty.
« Although I still want a response to this strange phenomena… » He glared at the demons in the room.
After breaking out of his trance, Cavert was back to himself. He didn’t like the bond this human had with his commander and needed to figure out things quickly to not let Demon get close to the hero a second time. The boy was still able to be manipulated with his state of mind and he planned of making use of the fact. He was the one who was on the winning track of the chess board.
Just you wait Emperor, this tool you let me borrow freely is going to cost you your empire one day; and I’ll make sure of it.
And Demon Arut was a valuable tool in this game between these two individuals.
He stepped closer to the two humans with an apologetic smile on his face.
« Let’s not start an unnecessary ruckus, shall we? » He turned to the hero in question. « I know your appearance is confusing and seems out of the ordinary… because- Well- It is. »
Demon narrowed his eyes at the explication. Why did Cassius appear in front of him and why did the purple gem disappear? Did they trick him to torture after? Did they finally found out how weak and incompetent he was and that’s why they’re punishing him?!
Okay, now he was getting distressed.
« You should give better explanations than this your highness. » His distressed voice sounded firm in the ears of the demons. They flinched at the tone their commander used.
The other commanders were still processing the whole situation and decided to not act reckless. They didn’t want to risk causing trouble by doing something the Demon King wouldn’t appreciate. They straightened their back and kept a stiff posture. They knew how Demon acted and how he reacted when was a shown an enemy. The hero that appeared may be the person he loved the dearest but who said he didn’t have some resentment or things to sort out after he had taken him down.
However, Cassius was a different case. He sensed the worry and fear in his past companion. He wouldn’t say he was the best at deciphering someone’s emotion just by hearing their voices, he although spent enough time with the said person to detect when he wasn’t in his best mind set.
Ed was wary of the situation and he would anything to protect the commander. He was assisting a strong person but he couldn’t help but have a sense of protectiveness towards the latter. He served him for enough time to know when to intervene and will do it if he has to.
The Demon King’s eyebrow twitched.
« It seems that the stone we gave you apparently can teleport your dearest person for a certain amount of time… »
Deon’s heart skipped a bit. Was it because of his surprise after hearing the statement made by the King? He never realised that he attached himself to the hero in this way. It kind of made sense now; things appeared clearer. Sir hero was the opposite of him: he didn’t fear the danger, is confident and has courage, He is a great leader and always had the right words to appease someone when in discomfort. He truly felt admiration for the man.
Instead of asking why did they experiment with him the effects of the rock on him, Arut asked him something the other demons held their breath when hearing it. Why did he ask such a question?? It wasn’t in his habit to act like that! Or was it because he couldn’t go on a killing spree like he wanted to? If that’s the problem, please understand!
Cavert was panicking and in utter bewilderment. Did he hear wrong? Yes, absolutely. There is no other explication to why his precious tool asked such a futile question instead of the actual point of the experience. Definitely.
Just to make sure though-
« I think I heard it wrong Demon, can you repeat your question? » He asked as the last attempt to make him feel sober.
« For… how long can he be here until he disappears? » This time, his voice carried a tempting tone but still conveyed this fear he had in him.
You can say that Cavert was actually left speechless after this one.
Seeing that the Demon King wasn’t responding to Deon’s question, Cassius put away his sword and opened his mouth to speak.
« What’s the name of the stone you gave to Deon? » His tone was dry and cold. The enemy didn’t have to believe he was here to play kind. He was dead after all, what else could happen to him?
« The Stone of Wishes. » Responded Asild as firm as the hero did. He wasn’t cowering after a hero, not even in the afterlife.
A nerve struck in Cassius.
So that’s why… I certainly didn’t expect that to be honest. I guess we really did create a bond after all.
« What does it have to do with this situation? » Asked Deon. The interactions were stiff and the tension in the air was overwhelming. He couldn’t help himself but to try and ease the atmosphere between the two sides before it became more heated. Cassius sighed and explained:
« The Stone of Wishes is a sort of artefact that teleports someone’s most loved person for hours whether the person was dead or alive. And for your question, you can estimate the remaining time to be between ten minutes to twenty-two hours. »
Deon’s eyes shook in realisation. One thought crossed his mind at the answer:
I don’t have enough time…
Without realising what he was doing, his body moved forward. Killing intent spread in the room at lightning speed. The demons were on alert and moved to the exit. The little troupe who was responsible for all this mess also followed when Demon Arut was only fifty centimetres away from the hero. The fight was going to be incredible but if they happened to be in the centre of the chaos, who knows what would have happened to them?
Now Deon was only one inch away from his previous companion and as his arm was slowly approaching the hero, the latter didn’t move nor blink at the menacing aura of the other person in the room. In the contrary, he was waiting with a tender smile playing on his lips as he himself advanced and took the other in his arms.
They were hugging thought Deon…
He encircled Cassius’ back with his arms and gripped tightly, resting his head on the shoulder in front of him. Then something came out of his eyes to slide to his cheeks and ended up falling from his chin to the floor. It was warm and wet and the process continued and wouldn’t stop at all.
Instead, the opposite happened and he began to cry even more. His eyes were watery and he let out small sobs. It’s been a while since he cried with someone at his side. No, he never cried with someone. It was the first time… And it was relieving to the point he didn’t try to control or hide his shaky breath and whimpers.
Crying is better when someone is here by your side…
The demons were worried… It’s been thirty minutes since they left their commander with the hero and he still wasn’t coming out of the room! Was he defeated?? No! Impossible! The 0th corps commander was stronger than that! He already defeated the hero once, he could do it a second time for sure!
They decided to peek from the slightly opened door but the scene struck them with thunder. They could only see the back of their commander but they could clearly see that he was hugging the enemy! The shock didn’t fade away even after two hours of questioning their life.
Meanwhile, Cassius was really grateful that Deon managed to keep calm and not let his second personality take control of him or else he would have to deal with something he couldn’t handle. Needless to say, he was happy to be able to assist a friend in need even after his own death.
Notes:
1. I mean... He kind of was getting attached to Demon Arut in the novel soooo... Please understand me! QAQ
I liked Cassius the moment I saw him in the manhwa! Unfortunately for my poor heart, he died in the first chapter... Why?? (T⌓T)
I'm not gonna lie though, this ain't a shipping fic but when I found myself re-reading for editing, I saw some fruity sentences and was like "Oh- I didn't expect it to turn out like that~" (・ω<)
Also, I'm a multishipper in every fandom I enter but surprisingly enough, INTKOT was the first one I didn't have a ship for. You might hate me for what I'm about to say but... I guess everyone has their opinion after all-
My favourite character died in the 1st chapter and I didn't like Cavert nor the Emperor... Like they're manipulating my Deon!! I'm not shipping for torturing! The Ed one was cute but not wow just like with the prince and the princess ones. (◡︵◡)
I understand the "He had kids with him!" part with the Demon King but- I wasn't feeling it. I've never read any fanfic in this fandom with ships. Sucks to have my heart then- If it's not skipping a beat at a ship, I ain't shipping it. (︶︹︺)
Anyway, this is the end. Sorry again for the wait really- If you got any idea for any INTKOT fanfiction that doesn't involve shipping, you can leave a comment with your ideas. I'll try them when I can. I want this fandom to revive with hearthwarming and hearthbreaking stories!
Hope you enjoyed reading, don't forget to leave kudos and thank you for @Trisinette73 (゚ω゚ )
You called my fanfiction cute in your bookmarks ♡
