He… was ready. When Mischa had brought out the pirated disc, the game was on. No one would beat him- Ricky was the self-proclaimed Mario Kart King, after all.
Until Jane sat next to him.
She had a talent for derailing every thought to cross his mind- it only took the slightest curl of her lips. This was no different. His fingers felt stiff against the controller, forced to watch as her Mario knocked his Luigi completely off Rainbow Road. Just like that- Game over.
Jane turned to him, beaming. "Owned!"
Ricky grinned back. That smile was worth the loss.
