Chapter Text
“I give you the Daring Dangers!” An old man announced as he gestured to the traipse up above. The light shifted to a raven-haired, blue-eyed teen in a white and red costume, mask covering his face. The announcer continued his introduction of the Daring Dangers.
“Dan Danger! Dawn Danger! Dane Danger! Dean Danger! And Diane Danger!” The crowd cheered as Dan and Dawn flipped through the air, Dane and Diane shot three arrows at a time, and Dean threw two barrels while Dan and Dawn passed through them.
As the two acrobats were preparing for their next trick, but Dan missed the grab and was now falling towards the ground where there was no net to break his fall. Dawn’s eyes widened as she watched her ‘brother’ fall. “Robin!” She yelled in her mind.
As Robin fell, he suddenly froze. In fact, nothing was moving, except for a rotating circle that indicated that there was a problem. “Agh! Come on not now.” Came the frustrated groan of a young Korean girl, as she tapped the space bar on her laptop.
She sighed as she closed her laptop, keeping the tab she was on up, before placing it on her desk that was right next to her bed. Grabbing her phone, she looked at the time. 12:36. She plugged her phone up to its charger and placed that on her desk as well.
“Oh, well. I guess I can finish that episode of Young Justice tomorrow.” she muttered, before curling up in her warm blankets and drifting off to sleep. The light of the moon that was coming through her window illuminated her face.
♡~♡
The next morning Leah woke up to her phone ringing. But who would be calling her at this time in the morning on a Saturday? When the ringing didn’t stop, she pulled her arm out from under the covers and flopped her hand onto her phone.
Bringing the device to her face, she cracked open her eyes only to shut them tight as the light blinded her momentarily. Opening her eyes again she looked at the ID. Steph Rogers. Her best friend. Then her dark brown eyes drifted to the time on the screen. 6:18.
Groaning she answered the phone. “Stefanie, ireogien neomu irda.” (Steph, it’s too early for this.) She knew her friend had no idea what she said, because she spoke it in Korean, but she didn’t care. It was her fault for waking her up so early.
“Okay, I have no idea what you just said. But that doesn’t matter because I have a question for you.” Leah sat up and yawned. Her dark hair fell off her shoulders and bits of it fell into her eyes.
“And this couldn’t wait till we meet up this afternoon?” She asked, as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes and heard Steph giggle from the other end. “No, it couldn’t. Did you see what happened with Superman in Metropolis?”
Leah blinked as confusion was written on her face. “What do you mean? Did they come out with a new episode for Young Justice that I didn’t know about? Or are you just pulling my leg?” Steph scoffed. “Ah, Lee what is Young Justice? Are you making stuff up? Look if you haven’t seen it turn on the news and see for yourself. But I got to go I’ll see you later today, bye Lee!”
Before Leah could say anything, else Steph hang up. Leah pulled her phone from her ear and stared at it. She looked around her room before grabbing her laptop. Something was definitely not right. But what? Leah had this feeling that she couldn’t quite place. Before she opened her laptop her eye caught sight of her alarm clock that was flashing. The time read 12:00am. ‘Huh, guess the power went out last night.’ She thought before opening the device.
Apon opening the device she noticed that the page she left up last night now said error and every time she refreshed the page it kept saying the same thing.
“Okay, that’s weird.” Leah muttered to herself before opening a new tab and looking at the news. She looked at the latest story which was on how Superman defeated a giant robot that morning around 4:00.
Leah’s eyes widened. This had to be a prank, right? Superman, much less Metropolis, wasn’t real. She felt her chest tighten. “Okay. It’s okay Lee. This is just a prank, there is no need to start panicking over a silly little prank.” But the tightness in her chest didn’t go away. She knew, deep down, that if this was a prank then they would have announced it.
Right?
Glancing at the poster in her room of Batman, she took a calming breath. “Okay, let’s see what I can find. Like I said this is most likely a prank.” As she scrolled down the News website, the worse the tightness in her chest got.
This wasn’t a prank, The further she scrolled proved that. She closed her laptop, rather harshly, and put it on her bed. She got off her bed and started to pace the room with a worried look. “What is going on! Heroes are real. But their fiction! Or at least supposed to be.” She stopped in the middle of the room and looked at the time. Grabbing her phone she sent a text to Steph. Her hands shaking.
Lee: Hey, are we still meeting up today?
It took about 2 minutes before Steph replied.
Steph: Of course!
Leah’s hands dropped to her sides, as she let out a shaky breath. She put her phone on her dresser and got changed. She put on a plain lavender purple T-shirt, blue jean pants that stopped just above her ankles, and white socks. She will grab her black converse from downstairs. After making sure her hair was brushed, she left her room and walked down the stairs. Entering the kitchen, she started looking for her mom. “Oma?” (Mom?) Not getting an answer she passed by the fridge and saw a note.
Sorry sweety, but I got called into work early this morning. Have a great day with Steph and remember I won’t be home till late tonight.
Love, Mom
Leah sighed, both out of relief and slight panic because her mom was also her in this crazy world. She grabbed a water bottle from the fridge and left, locking the door behind her. If she thought this morning was bad, she would be wrong. As soon as she stepped outside, her panic came back full force. Across the street she saw a sign that said Gotham city Northside Elementary. A sign that used to say New Jersey Elementary.
“This, this isn’t happening. This. I’m… I’m in Gotham!” Breath coming in shaky, she pressed her back to the door and slid down with a defeated look and panicked eyes. Nothing was the same anymore. Heroes existed, she was no longer in New Jersey anymore, now she lived in Gotham, and she was the only one so far that remembers that this should all be fiction.
She was alone. She hated being alone.
Getting up she started walking down the road, that was once familiar, but now it was like she was walking with or next to a stranger. ‘Maybe. Maybe, I’ll see something familiar.’ She thought, with a little hope. But after walking for about an hour there wasn’t any progress. It was now 7:56 and Leah wanted to scream and yell and cry. All of this was starting to become too much. Her thoughts were all jumbled and her brain felt like mush.
As she was lost in thought and trying not to panic, she didn’t notice there was someone in front of her and bumped into them. Causing her to fall on her ass and the person to stumble. “Sorry! I wasn’t looking where I was going.” She apologized and stood up, as she rubbed the now sore spot on her bum. Finally looking up she saw none other than Bruce Wayne, Richard Grayson, and their butler Alfred Pennyworth.
Bruce was fixing his shirt when he looked at Leah with a kind smile. “It’s okay. Just be careful next time.” Leah was trying so hard not to panic, but seeing Bruce and Richard and Alfred, plus everything from this morning set it over the top. And her breathing picked up. Her eyes widened, her pupils dilated, as she clenched her chest, her heart beat wildly, and her breaths came out in rapid gasps.
“Igeon neomuhada. Neomu manhi. Sumeul swil su eopsda.” (This is too much. Too much. Can’t breathe.) Was the only thing she could choke out in her panic. Picking up on her panic Dick took a step forward to help calm her down, only for her to take a step back. “Hey, it’s okay. We’re not going to hurt you.” Leah’s eyes darted around, she needed to get away from them. She ran past the three men standing in front of her, jumped onto the car and front flipped onto the other side of the street and took off running. Looks like all those gymnastics lessons are paying off.
As she ran, she kept bumping into people and muttering an apology every time. Making a quick left she found herself in an alley and once she was sure that she wasn’t being followed, she pressed her back to the wall and slid down bringing her knees to her chest.
Tears pricked her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. She had to stay calm if she wanted to get through this, but it was useless as the tears slowly rolled down her face in a silent sob. ‘I want to go home. I want to feel safe. I don’t feel safe here.’ She thought, as she hugged her knees closer to her chest. “I want Appa.” The sentence was muttered and quiet.
She didn’t know how long she sat there till her phone started to ring. Grabbing her phone, she answered it and brought it up to her ear. “Hello?” Her voice cracked.
“Hey, L! I was- are you okay?” Leah whipped her tears and cleared her throat before answering. “Oh, um, yeah. Anyway, what’s up?” Getting up Leah made her way out of the alley and down the street. Using her arm, that wasn’t holding her phone, she hugged herself. “I was wondering where we were going to meet up?” Leah stopped and looked around, soon dark brown eyes landed on a park and a smile pulled at her lips for the first time since that morning. “How about Gotham Park?”
“That sounds like a great idea! I’ll see you in a few minutes.” The call ended and Leah walked into the park. Finding a bench, she took a seat and watched as kids played with each other without a care in the world.
Her smile soon faded as she remembered what world she now lived in. One with dark and light, good and bad, one not with just petty thieves, and thugs. But one with super villains and superheroes. Living in this world will definitely leave its scars.
As she sat there her eyes drifted to the sky, the sun was hiding behind the clouds. Since she was by herself again the thoughts from earlier creeped in. Soon she was saved from those spiraling thoughts by a familiar voice.
“Hey, you’re not going to run away from me this time, are you?” Snapping her head in the direction of the voice, letting out a startled ‘Eep’, she was once again met with Dick Grayson. Her eyes widened, and her chest tightened yet again. She wanted to say something (or maybe run away again) and opened her mouth only to close it. Gosh she looked like a fish out of water.
“Can I sit?” Not trusting her voice, she dumbly nodded her head and looked away. Heart pounding. He sat next to her and looked at the clouds as silence fell over them. Finally, Leah spoke up. “What are you doing here?” As soon as the words left her lips she panicked. “Not that you can’t be here! That’s not what I’m saying!”
Dick watched as she tried to correct herself with amusement. “I just meant what are you doing here talking to me?” Dick smiled. “Well, you ran off and looked troubled and panicked.” He turned to people watch. “I just wanted to make sure that you were okay. Besides, I was already on my way here and just happened to see you so I thought I would talk to you.” Leah stared at him shocked before a smile pulled at her lips. “Thanks. You didn’t have to do that.”
“I know.” He shrugged and turned to look at her. Blue eyes meet dark brown. “But I wanted to. Plus, you flipped off of Bruce’s car.” Leah’s eyes widened in panic as her cheeks burned red with embarrassment. She put her face in her hands, “Oh, I am so sorry about that. I hope he isn’t mad.” Dick chuckled. “Don’t worry he’s not.”
Leah pulled her hands away from her face and instead brought her knees to her chest and rested her chin on top. “So, what’s your name?” Glancing towards the raven-haired boy she smiled at the question.
“Leah. Leah Chong. But my friends call me Lee or L.” Dick smiled. “Well, it's nice to meet you, Leah. I’m Richerd Grayson. But everyone calls me Dick.” Leah turned her head to face him better. “Okay, Dick. What are you doing in this park?” Dick thought for a second before replying. “I’m meeting a friend here. What about you?” She leaned back, smile fading ever so slightly. “Same.” Her eyes flickered to the far side of the park where she could see someone standing there, but it didn’t look like they were there for a good reason.
She couldn’t quiet see but it looked like they were… smiling?
Before she could see anything else, a voice made her jump. “Hey, Dick!” Looking over she saw a kid with red hair, green eyes, and freckles walking up. It was Wally West AKA Kid Flash. Leah sighed as she thumped her forehead on top of her knees.
Then she heard Steph’s voice from behind her. “Lee, you never told me you knew Richerd Grayson!” Turning round Leah faced Steph with a forced smile, at the same time Wally walked up with a confused look. “Steph, I just met him today, okay?” She laughed. Steph’s red eyes bounced between her best friend and the rich boy, then her eyes stopped on Leah once more, and a smirk pulled at her lips. “Okay, L, whatever you say.” Wally looked to Dick with a raised eyebrow and a smirk on his face as well. “So, when were you going to tell me you had a girlfriend, Dick?”
Both heads whipped around so fast that they probably got whiplash. “What!?” The two yelled as their faces started to turn red. Steph and Wally started to laugh so hard they held their stomachs. Leah turned back and glared at Steph. “Manghae, Stefanie!” (Screw you, Steph!) Leah yelled at her bestie in Korean, and shrunk back into the bench with a huff. That only made Steph laugh harder as she knew what it meant, because Leah said it a lot to her when she did something to embarrass her.
Meanwhile, Dick glared at Wally. “Dude! I barely know her!” Wally continued to laugh, and Dick punched him the arm causing the red head to wince before his laughter subsided into giggles. Then Steph held out her hand to Wally, as she leaned over the bench. “Hi, I’m Steph, Leah’s best friend.” She smiled. Wally turned to look at her and returned the smile and shook her hand. “Nice to meet you, Steph. I’m Wally, Dick’s best friend.”
Leah and Dick shared a glance before they both shrugged. Leah then got up and walked to Steph’s side. “Well, we should get going. It was nice to meet you Wally and you too Dick.” Dick stood up and stood next to Wally. “Yeah, it was. I guess I’ll see you in school.” With that the two boys walked off.
Leah smiled before his words registered in her mind, and she frowned. “Wait, what?” But Dick and Wally were already gone. She turned and walked with Steph before asking. “What did he mean by ‘see you in school’?” Steph looked at her friend with a concerned expression. “You go to Gotham Academy, same as me and him. Are you feeling, okay?” She put her hand to her forehead.
Leah’s eyes widened momentarily before she shook her head and pushed Steph’s hand away. “Yeah, I’m fine Steph nothing to worry about.” She smiled, and at first, she thought that the red-eyed girl would see right through her but then she nodded her head and turned to continue walking.
After spending a few hours in the park, they decided to get some ice cream from an ice cream truck then head home. As they waited in line there was a sudden explosion and a lot of screaming. Leah and Steph turned to look and saw that the Joker was attacking the park with his goons.
“Well, hello Gotham! I’m back!” He said in a sing-song voice before laughing like a manic hyena showing his yellow teeth. Then he threw a Joker bomb towards the truck as it laughed in a robotic mockery of his crazy manic laugh, and everyone ran and jumped out of the way as it went off.
Leah dove to the left and used her hands to cover her head. After the explosion went off, she looked behind her dazed from the blast to see the truck that was once full of delicious treats, was now burning in flames. She got up and staggered behind some trees that lined the park in front of the fence.
She ducked behind a tree and sat down on the ground, her breath coming out in pants from both the blast and the panic.
‘Okay, so I’m at the park with my BFF and we get attacked by a psychotic clown with bad dental hygiene, great.’ Leah thought to herself in a panic. She peaked out from behind the tree and saw that the goons were blocking the exits so no one could get out. Leah groaned, now what was she supposed to do? And she had to get back to Steph, in all the confusion they got separated.
She started to get her breathing under control when…
“Hey, Joker,” She let out a blood curdling scream, when a big hand landed on her shoulder, and she was pulled out from her hiding spot by one of the goons. The hand shifted from her shoulder to her hair holding it ruffly. “Looks like one wanted to hide.” Joker walked over to the two with a ‘sad’ look. “Why are you hiding? Don’t you want to play with Uncle J?” His voice alone sent shivers down her spine and made her legs turn to jelly. His demented grin and crazed look in his eye made her almost lose control of her blader. Leah shook as he came face to face with her. He was much scarier in person than he was on any Batman show she’s ever watched.
She chanced a looked behind him and saw that everyone was in the center of the park. ‘Great, so a hostage situation. But why take hostages? Oh, to draw out the Bats!’ She thought. Looking more into the crowd of people she saw Dick, Wally, and Steph among all the other civilians.
Steph, who was standing next to Dick and Wally, stared at her in fear. “Hey! I’m talking to you!” The clown yelled and snapped his fingers in front of her face to get her attention back. Leah removed her gaze from her friends and looked back into the toxic green eyes.
“You know you seem really distracted.” The mad man tapped his chin in thought and looked up before looking back at the girl who was in his clutches. “Why is that?” He leaned in once more and his voice dropped and made him look more psychotic than before.
Leah shook once more as she couldn’t tear her eyes away from the Jokers. “I… I…” She stuttered and the Joker frowned. He finally stood straight and shrugged. “Well, it looks like this child is broken.” His frown was soon replaced by that evil, psychotic smile of his.
“But don’t worry!” He reached into his purple coat and pulled out a knife. If Leah thought, her eyes were wide before they got significantly bigger at the sight of the knife. “I can fix you.” He put the knife on her cheek and grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him and restricted the movement of her head.
“Now, shall we begin?” Leah’s breath came in fast and uneven as the psycho started to drag the knife down, slowly cutting into her flesh as blood started to run down her cheek. It stung and Leah had to bite her tongue to keep from whimpering. Yes, she was scared. Hell, she was about to piss her pants! But she was not going to give this creep the satisfaction of hearing her in pain.
He pulled the knife away and looked at the blood that was dripping from the tip. Leah watched as he smiled and then licked it!
‘What the hell is wrong with this guy?!’ She thought as watching him do that made her stomach twist in knots and made her nauseous. Joker finished cleaning his knife and turned back to look at the work he’d done so far. Then he frowned in sadness. “Oh, come on! I want to hear you sing!” He moved the hand that was holding her face and replaced it with the knife. She lifted her head as far as it would go so as not to get stabbed with the sharp object. Then he leaned down and got right next to her ear. “Be a good girl and sing for your Uncle J.”
He pushed the knife harder against her neck and smiled and laughed softly when he heard a whipper escape her throat. He pulled his head back and look into her eyes as she glared at him, but he could see the fear behind her false wall of bravery.
“Well, this has been fun shall we continue?” His voice darkened as he raised his hand with the knife and brought it down full force. He aimed for her shoulder, and she braced for the knife to cut through her. An unwilling scream erupted from her mouth from her panic. But the pain she expected never came.
Leah opened her eyes to see the Joker getting up from the ground a few feet away. She also noticed that the goon that was holding her was unconscious behind her. Looking up, she saw Batman standing where the Joker had been standing just a minute ago.
He looked down at her, his eyes covered by the whites of his cowl. “Are you okay?” Came the gruff voice of the Dark Knight. She nodded her head as she saw Robin and Kid Flash were now standing next to the Dark Knight.
The Joker was standing with his back facing them. Batman looked at his partner and the speedster then back to the girl who was just in the hands of the Joker. “Robin, Kid Flash.” The two looked at the older hero. “Take care of the civilians. I’ll-“
He was cut off by the sound of laughter coming from in front of them where the lunatic was standing, his shoulders shaking with laughter. “Oh, hello Batsy. Mind handing me that girl we have some unfinished business. She needs to learn how to smile… for her Uncle J.” The Batman stepped in front of the shivering teen his eyes narrowed at the Joker as did Robin and Kid Flash, shielding her from the man’s view.
…
Can we even call him a man anymore? He was more like a dog with rabies that needed to be put down. The Jokers smile faded into a sad frown as he saw that they wouldn’t give him the girl. “Oh, Batsy, Batsy, Batsy! Must we do the same dance you and I?” Batman glared at the deranged man. “Oh, well I guess you’re right.” With that he lunged forward and started to attack Batman while Robin and Kid Flash went to help the civilians and fight the goons.
But before Robin went to help Kid with the goons and civilians, he spun around and grabbed Leah. Picking her up bridle style and dashed away from the Joker. (It’s a good thing he did. Because her legs were so shaky that they couldn’t move on their own.)
Leah was surprised at how fast Dick was running while carrying her. They made it to the other side of the park where it was untouched by Joker and his lackies. The Boy Wonder set her down gently, her legs wabbled and she swayed slightly. Robin reached out and placed a hand on her shoulder to help steady her before she fell over. Leah’s heart fluttered as he used his other hand, that wasn’t on her shoulder, to tilt her head to look at the cut on her cheek.
Even though she couldn’t see his eyes she could tell that all his focus was on her and for some reason that thought alone made her stomach do flips and a small blush dusted her cheeks. “It’s not too deep, but it will leave a scar.” Robin said as he ran his thumb over the injury, a smile pulled at his lips.
Leah could tell that this one was different. It wasn’t one of his mischievous grins that he would wear when he was pulling a prank or the one he would flash at the villains to piss them off. No, this one was something different. And she loved it. “Aright, you should be safe over here till we’ve delt with the Joker and his thugs.”
Leah blinked as she was snapped out of her thoughts. “R-right. Thank you, Robin.” He nodded his head and rushed off back into the battle that was taking place. Finally, everything came crashing back and her legs gave out from under her. ‘No, Leah! No! You cannot be crushing on a fictional character!’ She scolded herself. She calmed herself just enough to look at what was happening around her.
Joker’s goons were running around grabbing people, setting things on fire, and braking things. There were too many. She wanted to help but how? Her legs still felt like putty. Most of the civilians that were saved and put out of harm’s way would always end up back at the mercy of the goons.
If this continued, then someone would end up dead or seriously injured. So, gathering the strength, Leah got off the ground and ran to the civilians that had yet to notice the goon that was trying to sneak up on them. Running up behind the goon she used her momentum, driving her right foot into the back of his knee causing him to crumple to the ground. Before he could gain his bearings, she threw a round-house kick into his temple, successfully knocking him out. ‘Damn, that hurt!’.
Hearing a grunt shout “Hey!” She looked behind her at goon number two. And as he came into range, she threw a powerful side kick, striking him in his mid-section. She watched in satisfaction as his eyes bugged out of his head from the impact, and how he crumpled to the ground like a cheap folding lawn chair.
Then she turned to the people around her. “Come on we have to move out of the way!” Just as she said this and they moved, KF threw a goon into a tree next to them. The goon let out a gasp as the air was knocked out of him, and he slid down joining his friends on the ground.
Leah looked around and finally spotted Steph being backed into a corner. She ran over to Steph, grabbed her hand and dragged her away from the goon. After about an hour the police finally came and took The Joker and goons away to Arkham where they belonged, Joker laughing the whole time saying, “He would be back and would make all of Gotham smile”. CREEPY. Soon medics came to check all those who were hurt during the attack.
“Leah!” Turning around Leah saw her mom dressed in her nurse uniform come running over to where she was getting her cheek treated. The medic finished up and stepped away so her mom could hug her. “o, agaya! Gwaenchanheuseyo?” (Oh, sweetie! Are you okay?) Leah smiled as she hugged her mom back. “Yeah, mom I’m okay it’s just a scratch.”
Her mom pulled back from the hug and looked into her daughter's eyes as she brushed Leah’s black hair back behind her ear from her dirt covered face. Steph walked up and smiled. “I’m glad you’re okay, Lee.” The two looked up at Steph, as a frown crossed her face. “I just wish Batman would have gotten here sooner so you didn’t get hurt.” Mrs. Chong looked at her daughter with a sad look as she took in her injuries. “Me too.”
Leah’s head turned to face her mother a small smile on her face “I’m fine mom, promise.” Her mother returned the smile. “I know you are but that doesn’t mean I still won’t worry. Saranghae, rea.” (I love you, Leah.)
The two hugged once again but pulled away when a gruff voice spoke. “Sorry to interrupt,” Steph, Mrs. Chong and Leah turned their heads to see Batman, Robin, and Kid Flash standing in front of them. “But may I speak to your daughter for a moment?” Mrs. Chong looked at Leah who nodded her head.
Standing up, she answered. “Yes, I suppose that its fine, I do have others to check on.” She then turned her head to Steph. “Steph will you join me?” Steph nodded and the two left. Leah turned her head to the heroes in front of her and nervously asks. “So, am I in trouble?” The heroes looked at each other, Leah couldn’t read their expressions. Stupid masks.
“We wanted to make sure you were okay.” Kid Flash said. “Sorry we took so long.” Leah looked at the ground. “It’s fine.” She started and felt their eyes on her, so she continued. “You got here just in time, right? And that’s all that matters.”
She stood up. “Well, thank you for the save Bru-Batman!” She corrected herself. Batman’s eyes narrowed at the slip up. It was small and hardly noticeable but he’s Batman. He notices everything.
“I appreciate all that you do. Again, thank you.” She walked past the heroes before stopping and looked over her shoulder. Gave them a nervous smile before turning back around and walking away out of the park and onto the streets of Gotham.
Robin watched the girl leave, a small smile on his face, it soon faded as he looked at his mentor and noticed that he was quieter than normal, and that was saying something. “Batman?” The Dark Knight said nothing as something was on his mind. He then turned around and left muttering a “let’s go” before shooting a grappling hook and being pulled into the air.
‘She’s hiding something and I’m going to find out what it is.’ Was the only thought on the older vigilantes’ mind the rest of the day.

Chapter Text
It’s been a day since the attack and Leah has been trying to get a grip on this new world so she could fit in (As much as possible) and look for a way home. If there is a way home. She remembers a few hours after the attack that a report from Happy Harbor said that 5 teens stopped an evil Android from destroying the town.
With that information Leah knew that she was at the beginning of when Young Justice started. It was episode 3, ‘Welcome to Happy Habor’ so now at least she knew what was going to happen next, for the most part. But did that mean that she was in the show? Or was she in a world that followed the show?
It was around 11:00 pm and she was getting a headache from all this. She heard the front door open and closed her laptop. Walking down the stairs to greet her mom she tried to keep her thoughts from anything to depressing. Before she knew it, she was at the bottom of the stairs staring at the floor.
“Hey, mom. How was work?” She lifted her head. Her mom finished putting her coat on the hook before taking her name tag off that said ‘Olivia Chong’ and placed it on the shelf with her purse.
“It was okay, just a long day.” She then made her way to the kitchen where she poured some cereal into a bowl and started to eat it dry. “3 patients come in today, which is nothing new. But most of their injuries were minor because Batman saved them.”
Leah nodded her head. She heard that Batman had helped save some people from a fire and 3 of them went to the hospital for minor burns and one of them had a broken wrist, but other than that there were no major casualties. Ever since the attack Leah had been keeping tabs on the Dark Knight and his colorful partner, but they kept disappearing.
Olivia then looked at Leah like she remembered something. “Aren’t you supposed to be in bed?” Leah let out a nervous chuckle. “Uh, maybe?” Her mom shook her head with a small smile before coming to her and brushing her thumb over the still healing cut on her cheek and asking in a concerned voice. “Are you okay?”
Leah leaned into the touch, slightly, and let out a deep sigh, nodding her head. “Yeah, I’m okay. Still a little shaken up and sore but it’s just a little scratch but I think I’ll be fine.” She said in a small voice. Olivia kissed the top of her head and then pointed to the stairs. “Bed.” She said firmly but also gently. Leah nodded her head with a smile, kissed her mom on the cheek and walked up the stairs to bed.
She shut her door and stood there for a minute. Then pressed her ear to it when she heard footsteps climbing the stairs. After waiting a few more minutes she heard her mom’s door close.
Grabbing her shoes and a small bag she climbed out her window. Climbing down the lamppost that was outside her window she landed on the sidewalk with a soft thud.
Looking around she started walking down the street towards the park. The night air was soft and gentle, but she knew that this city was far from soft and gentle. Once at the park she sat under a tree and took out a journal and pen from her bag. She opened it and started to write in it. She mostly wrote about her surroundings and the occasional sound of a cicada amongst the cars passing by. She also wrote about her feelings about everything happening, it wasn’t a diary per-say it was just something to get her mind off of everything.
She eventually put the journal and pen down and looked at the sky. It looked like the sky she would always look at, but she knew that it was different somehow. Although the stars looked the same and the way the moon shined off of the pond in the park. This wasn’t her world. This wasn’t her home. And she didn’t know when she would get to go home, or if she even could.
She sighed before grabbing her things and walking ‘home’ before she had to get up for school in a few hours. Ha, school this was going to be interesting. As she left the park, on a building nearby, stood a tall dark figure the whites of his cowled eyes narrowed. Next to him was a smaller figure. The blowing wind lifted their capes into the air.
The smaller of the two looked up at the taller one. Confusion and worry crossed his face under the mask that covered his eyes. “Are you okay, Batman?” The young boy didn’t get a response right away. Instead, the Dark Knight turned to walk away. “I’m fine, Robin. But there is something she knows. Something that she is hiding. And I’m going to find out what.” Robin looked to his mentor before looking back at the girl they have been following for the past day since the attack. His gaze lingered on the girl as he remembered her scared face and panicked eyes when they first met.
“I can keep an eye on her at school if you want.” He suggested, with a small blush. Batman stopped and looked back at his partner, his ward, his son. And hesitated, noticing the small blush that crossed his face, before replying. “I would appreciate that. If you see anything Don’t go off by yourself, do I make myself clear?” Robin nodded his head, a smile creeping in, and continued to walk with the Dark Knight. Dick looked over his shoulder once more to where Leah had been moments before.
‘What are you hiding Leah? What is it about you that has Bruce so worried, and laser focused on you?’ With that last thought he shot out his grappling gun and followed Batman back to the Bat-cave.
♡~♡
Once again, Leah was woken up by her phone ringing. Seriously, she bought an alarm clock for a reason. She propped herself up on her elbow and grabbed her phone from the desk. The ID was labeled as unknown. Raising an eyebrow she answered the phone. “Hello?” She was met with a bone chilling silence from the other end. Though no one answered her she felt a shiver run down her spine as she pulled the phone from her ear and stared at it.
Not liking the feeling, she was getting she ended the call and tossed her phone to the foot of her bed like it was an old towel that hadn’t been washed. She looked at her alarm clock. 7:29. It was one minute till her alarm went off to wake her up for school. Already up, she turned the alarm off and got ready for the day. After a quick shower she got dressed into her uniform, brushed her hair and teeth, put her hair into a ponytail and walked downstairs to eat before meeting up with Steph to walk to school.
She saw her mom, in her nurse uniform, on her phone and waved at her before grabbing a bowl of cereal and taking a seat at the table. Olivia smiled and waved back before going back to the conversation on the phone. After she ate, she grabbed her school bag and walked out the door. Outside the door stood Steph with a smile on her face. “Hey, Lee. You ready for school?”
Leah smirked. “Oh yes! So ready to spend hours in what is just a child prison, listening to adults teach us stuff that we will never use!” she said sarcastically as the two started their walk to school. Steph laughed and within 10 minutes they arrived. As they approached the school Leah noticed that it looked exactly like the academy she went to before she woke up in this world, so hopefully she wouldn’t get lost. ‘Did this world copy and paste stuff from my world?’ Leah asked herself. They entered through the gate and walked across the courtyard. Class didn’t start till 9:00 so they had a few minutes. They sat under a tree and started talking about upcoming projects and tests before school started back up and then fall break. It was July and most, if not, all schools were on summer break. However, Leah and Steph got signed up for summer school by their parents. Steph’s parents did it so she wouldn’t fall behind on her studies.
And Leah’s mom did it, so she wasn’t home alone all summer with her working more hours at the hospital. “Hey, Steph?” The red-eyed girl looked at her friend. “Is Dick coming to school? Or does he not have to go to summer school like us?” A smirk found its way onto Steph’s face. “Oh, you like him.” She teased, nudging Leah with her elbow. Leah laughed and swatted at Steph, forcing the blush that threatened to spread down. “Come on Steph I’m being serious.”
Steph let out a chuckle before looking out at the other students. “Honestly, I’m not sure. Really you should know he is in your class.” Leah sighed and looked down at the grass. “I guess I never really paid attention to him before.” Just then the bell rang.
Leah sighed as she stood up and turned to Steph. “I’ll see you at lunch.” Steph nodded her head before smiling. “Hey, if you do see Grayson then invite him to sit with us.” With that she walked off to her class.
As Leah walked to her class, she couldn’t stop thinking about everything that has happened. Lately it’s all she can think about. Soon she was in her class. ‘Huh, guess the layout is like my original school. Well, that’s helpful.’ She thought as she took a seat.
Soon the teacher came in. “Good morning class. Today-“ She was interrupted by the class door opening. There stood Richerd Grayson. “Sorry I’m late Ms. Peterson.” He says as he walks in and takes a seat next to Leah. Ms. Peterson sighs. “Right. Now as I was saying, today we will be working-“ Leah tuned the teacher out. Since starting summer school all, they’ve done is work on making sure they pronounce the words of languages they have learned correctly.
The language they are working on now is Romanian. Leah has studied it enough to know how to pronounce the words okay, so she should be fine to daydream for a little. She looks to her right and see Dick looking bored.
Well, she can’t blame him, he is originally from Romania. ‘Wow, guess it’s a little creepy to know about almost everything about every hero in the world.’ The thought came and went as a new thought crossed her mind. ‘Now that I think about it, I know the identities, strengths, weaknesses, everything about the heroes and villains of this world.’
She directed her eyes to her desk as she now found the lines of the wood interesting. Another thought came to mind. ‘Wait a minute, the classes, the summer school, the layout of the academy, this is all like back in my world. What does this mean? How can everything be the exact same, yet so different?’
She was shaken from her thoughts by Dick who was calling her name in a hushed whisper. “Leah!” She snapped her head to the blue-eyed boy who pointed with his eyes to the teacher.
“Ms. Chong. Since you seem to love to daydream in my class you can tell me what this says on the board.” She looked past the angry teacher to see what was on the board.
Gândiți-vă înainte de a vorbi. Și fii liniștit să asculți. Pentru cei care nu au aliați mici sau deloc.
Leah read what was on the board and looked back at the teacher. “Gândiți-vă înainte de a vorbi. Și fii liniștit să asculți. Pentru cei care nu au aliați mici sau deloc. Think before you speak. And be still to listen. For those who don't have little to no allies.” Leah answered, with a smile. Ms. Peterson nodded her head and continued with the lesson. To which she tuned back out.
No one wanted to listen to a teacher anyway, unless they were talking about something interesting, like Fnaf, Superheroes, or something cool like that.
After class ended Leah walked to her locker to grab her book for the next class, which was math. Gosh, she hates math. As she passed by other students, she picked up on small topics like: ‘Did you hear about the attack a few days ago?’ or ‘I heard that Bruce Wayne is throwing another charity event.’
She mainly ignored these as they had nothing to do with her. It was just a habit that her father taught her. ‘Always be aware of your surroundings. Even if you feel safe, never let your guard down.’ He’d tell her.
She was too young to understand at the time that he just wanted her to be safe. And then-
Leah shook her head as she was now at her locker. She only had a few minutes, at best, to get her things, possibly talk to Steph, and then get to class before Mr. Jacobson has a fit about her being late again. Putting in her lock combination she opened her locker when she heard a click.
Grabbing her math book and an extra pencil, she closed her locker and turned to start looking for Steph when-
“Ah!” Leah jumped and crashed into the lockers behind her, because when she turned around standing in front of her was Bruce Wayne.
She stared at him and Mr. Wayne raised a brow as Leah clenched her chest where her heart was pounding a mile a minute. “H-hi Mr. W-Wayne.” She mumbled under her breath. “Someone needs to put a bell on you.” And then offered him a lop-sided smile.
Apparently, she mumbled that to loud as Burce Wayne/Batman obviously heard her if the amused smile on his face was any indication. “Sorry about the scare.”
“It’s, okay. What-a, what are you doing here?” As she breathed in deeply trying to calm her racing heart. “Well, Dick forgot his lunch. So, I thought I would bring it to him while on my way to work.” The billionaire explained.
Leah nodded her head and opened her mouth to say something when the bell rang. “Crud! I’m so very sorry Mr. Wayne, but I have to get to class,” She started to walk backwards down the hall. “But, uh, have a great day at work!” She turned on her heel and ran down the hall, hoping to get to her class before her teacher. Which was most likely not going to be the case.
♡~♡
Finally! It was lunch, which means she can spend some time with Steph, and they only have a few more classes, then she can go to her after school activities.
She waited by the stairs in the west part of the school for Steph. Steph was a grade above her, which Leah found funny. ‘It’s like me and her are the female versions of Wally and Dick.’ As she waited, she saw Dick walking down the hall with his head down.
‘That’s weird.’ She smiled as he approached her. “Hey, Dick.” He looked up and Leah’s breath caught in her throat. His left eye was bruised and slightly swollen and his lip was spilt with a small trail of blood running down his chin.
“Dick, what happened!” She put her hands on either side of his face as she checked over his wounds. A groan escaped his lips as she gently ran her thumb over his bruised eye. “Nothing. I just fell.” Dark brown eyes narrowed at his response. “Dick, I’m the daughter of an ex-doctor now turned nurse, don’t you dare lie to me.” Crystal blue eyes gazed at the floor.
A frustrated sigh left Leah’s lips. “Come here.” She pulled him over to the water fountain, where she turned it on then pulled out a cloth from her bag and placed it under the cold water. Once it was wet enough, she turned off the water and started to wipe the blood off his lip and chin, then moved to the swollen eye.
Dick flinched at first before letting her put the cold cloth on his injury. “You know. You can tell me what happened.” Dick kept his gaze to the floor and was quiet. Another sigh left Leah’s lips. “Here. Hold this to your eye, it will help reduce the swelling.” Dick nodded and kept the cloth to his eye.
Just then Steph came down the stairs. “Hey, Leah, what are you- Oh my gosh! Dick, are you okay?” He nodded his head and flashed her a smile. “Yeah, I’m fine. I just fell.” Steph looked over him before a playful smile crossed her face. “Ha! What were you doing? Running through the halls?” Dick let out a chuckle. “Something like that.” Leah let a smile cross her face as well. Though she knew that he was lying, she wasn’t going to push him into telling her what happened.
“Hey, do you want to have lunch with us?” Dick looked to Leah, still smiling. “Sure.” As the three walked to the lunchroom they passed by a group of bullies, made up of both younger students and a few older students.
“Well, well, well, if it isn’t little Dickie?” Leah looked to see Magnus, the oldest of the bullies and the ringleader, waking up to the secret hero. “Why didn’t you tell me you knew some hot chicks? Heh?” Magnus dropped one of his arms onto Dick’s shoulder with a revolting smirk on his face.
He then shoved Dick into the hands of his goons and walked towards Leah and Steph. “What’s some pretty little ladies such as yourselves doing hanging around a twerp like this? When you can hang out with a real man like me?” Magnus leaned into their personal space.
Leah gagged at the smell of his breath while Steph put a hand over her mouth and nose. Leah flinched when Magnus caressed her cheek and lifted her head up by gently grabbing her chin. “You know your pretty cute.” Magnus’ green eyes looked down to her lips. A growl was heard from behind. “Don’t touch her you creep!” Magnus groaned. “Please, if you don’t mind.”
Steph yelled when Dick was punched in the stomach. Magnus smirked at the pained sound from Grayson and turned his focus back to Leah. Or more so, her lips.
“Now, where were we?” He then leaned forward and tried to kiss her. Panic settled into her as she saw this creep-o’s lips about to touch Her’s.
Thinking fast, she thrust the ridge of her hand upwards, and throat chopped him. Magnus let out a startled gasp of pain as his eyes bugged out of his head and then he grabbed his throat with both of his hands. She then balled her hand into a fist and punched him in the solar plexus. The air left his lungs as he fell to the floor holding his throat with one hand and his gut with the other gasping for air. Steph let out a chuckle and the goons let go of Dick as they were in shock. Steph walked up to Dick and helped him to a standing position. “Are you okay?” Dick nodded and turned to look at Leah who was still standing in front of the crumbled body of Magnus.
“Leah?” Dark brown eyes met red and blue ones. “Are you okay?” Leah slowly nodded her head and walked around the boy on the floor. “Yeah, yeah I’m okay.”
She then got a closer look at Dick. “Are you okay?” Dick grinned. “Yeah, I’m fine. I’ve had worse trust me.”
‘Oh, I know.’ Leah thought. “Okay, how about we go and get some lunch now? The sooner was get away from these,” Leah paused as she turned and gave a disgusting look at the group, who were helping a groaning Magnus of the floor, “Things. The better it will be for our sense of smell.” Steph agreed immediately and wrinkled her nose at the thought of Magnus’ breath, while Dick nodded his head.
And with that the trio walked to the lunchroom once again.

Chapter Text
“Leah Chong to the office. Leah Chong to the office.”
Everyone turned in their seats to look at the girl who was called to the office over the speakers. The girl in question was just as confused as everyone else, if not more so.
Her classmates gave a lot of ‘Ohs’ and ‘Guess little miss perfect isn’t perfect after all’ she just ignored them. “Okay, class settle down.” Mr. Wood said. “Leah, please gather your things and head on up.” She nodded her head and did as told.
She walked out of the class and down the hall. On the way she saw Dick walking out of his classroom and Steph walking down the stairs. All three stopped and stared at each other with confused expressions. “You get called to the office too?” Steph and Dick nodded their heads at the question. The three started walking again while making small talk, wondering why they were called in.
Once in front of the door they could hear voices from inside. One was the principals, and the other was. Magnus. All three groaned as they could now guess what this was about.
“So, who wants to knock?” Dick asked. Leah and Steph looked at each other for a moment till Leah faced the door and gently knocked on it. They were greeted by a ‘Come in’ from the principal.
Leah opened the door and the three poked their heads in, and sure enough there sitting across from the principal’s desk was Magnus. He turned to face them with a triumphant smirk on his face that he knew the principal couldn’t see.
“Please come in and have a seat.” He gestured to the three empty seats next to Magnus. After sitting down the principal, Mr. David a man in his 50’s, with a giant bald head, thick glasses covering his beady eyes, and gray hair sticking out of his ears, got to the point.
“Now, you are all here because, Magnus,” He gestured to the boy who was faking crying, “has brought it to my attention that you three ganged up on him when he asked you,” He pointed to Leah, “On a date.”
The three stared at him in shock. ‘Magnus told him that we beat him up because he asked me out on a date?!’ Leah thought, her eyes wide. ‘What the hell!’ She looked to Dick and Steph and say, by the faces they were making, that they were thinking the same thing.
“Mr. David, what are you talking about? It was Magnus who beat Dick up! And then tried to kiss Leah without her consent!” Steph yelled, and glared daggers at Magnus who shivered. “See! I told you they would lie to you with that lame excuse!” Magnus cried. No, like, he actually cried. The little deva. You have to admit though, kid was a good actor.
Dick turned to face Magnus and gave him his best Bat-glare. “Oh, Bull-“
“Mr. Grayson!” Mr. David yelled. Dick just glanced at him before looking back at Magnus. “You attacked me, then kiss Leah, told your ‘friends’ to punch me to shut me up after I told you not to touch her! And you did this without her consent! What kind of sick-o are you!” Magnus stared at Dick in shock before turning the water works back on.
“Why would I hurt you Grayson? I’ve been nothing but nice to you.” Principal David cleared his throat to get the kids attention. “Mr. Grayson, Ms. Roger, Ms. Chong, you are making accusations with no proof as what he did.” Steph scoffed. “Look at Dick! He has a black eye and a split lip! He didn’t get that by walking into a door! And mister crybaby other there has no proof that we ‘hit him’.”
The principal looked between the teens and turned to Magnus. Magnus stood up and rolled up his sleeve to show a bruise, a big one, on his forearm. Leah looked at the bruise and laughed.
All heads turned to her with shocked and confused faces. The principal didn’t seem to find this funny as his expression grew angry. “Ms. Chong this is no laughing matter!” Her laugh subsided into chuckles before she composed herself.
“I’m sorry, but that’s not a bruise.” Magnus glared and gestured to the ‘bruise’ on his arm that was a pale yellow. And that alone told Leah that it was fake. “What are you talking about it is a bruise! You did this.” Leah rolled her eyes.
“Sure, that would be a believable bruise to everyone, if you told them that we did this stuff to you like a week or 2 ago. All except those who study medicine or those who’s mom is a nurse.” The look on Magnus’ face was priceless.
“What do you mean?” Leah turned to face the principal when he asked the question. “Simple. When you first get a bruise, it starts out as a pinkish, red color, then it changes to a dark blue or purple after about an hour or two, then fades to violet, green, dark yellow, and then turns a pale yellow until it completely disappears. A bruise will usually completely heal in 2 weeks, depending on how bad it is.” She continued. “And considering that the only time we passed each other in the hall was when we were on our way to lunch, which was about, what? 3 hours ago? The bruise would be purple or even a dark blue by now, like the one on Dick’s eye, not pale yellow. So, there for its fake.”
Magnus was speechless, Mr. David was taking in this new information, and Dick and Steph were smiling. “If you don’t believe me then ask him to wash it off.” That got Magnus’ attention again. “What!” Leah shrugged with a bored look. “If you have nothing to hide then you should be fine. To show that we’re not lying Dick can take a cloth and try to whip his bruise away. That should clear things up.”
Mr. David considered this. “Very well.”
“What!” Magnus looked at the principal with wide eyes. “It’s the only way to tell who is lying.” After a few minutes of a back-and-forth banter Magnus finally gave in and took the washcloth from Leah. He hesitated before putting it on his ‘bruise’ and whipping, Dick did the same, wincing as he did.
Once the two pulled the cloths away from their bruises, low and behold, Magnus’ cloth was tented yellow, while Dick’s was clean.
The principal told Steph and Dick that they could go but told Magnus and Leah to stay. “Magnus for you lying and trying to get 3 students in trouble you will have a week of detention.” Leah stared at Mr. David. “What! Only a week of detention?”
The principal turned to face Leah. “We can’t suspend one of our biggest investors’ child, it would ruin us. You how ever Ms. Chong are in a lot of trouble.” Magnus smirked. “You assaulted Magnus care to explain yourself?”
Leah narrowed her eyes in anger. “He tried to kiss me without my consent! That would be considered sexual assault! In fact, I’m pretty sure that it is! I was defending myself!” Magnus scoffed. “Like you know anything about assault. You’re just making all this up to save yourself.”
The principal told Magnus to stop talking and to get out of his office and back to class. Which was stupid because school ended 15 minutes ago. “Leah, regardless you are going to be suspended for 2 weeks for attacking another student.”
“What! You can’t be serious! He attacked me first!” Leah yelled, standing up from her chair, almost knocking it over in the process. “Do not raise your voice at me young lady! This discussion is over! Now out!” Leah stared wide eyed at his stupidity. Anger welled up inside of her and this time she didn’t hold back. “So, what your saying is that because his daddy gives a lot of money to this place, you’re letting him off with a slap on the wrist, while suspending me for defending myself against sexual assault! Not to mention Magnus beat the shit out of the ward of Bruce Wayne and you’re not going to do anything about it!”
“Out!” Leah growled and stormed out of his office. But not before turning around and yelling, “Neon Gaejasigiya!” as she slammed the door shut. The principal looked at the door confused. “What did she say?”
She didn’t have time for this, she had to get to her gymnastics class. She stormed out of the school and to the front gate. “Leah!”
She heard Steph calling her name, but she didn’t stop. As she was about to walk through the gate a hand landed on her shoulder and forced her to turn around. “Leah! What’s wrong?”
Leah kept her eyes to the ground, tears starting to form. “Leah?” Hearing the concerned sound of her besties voice, a single tear ran down her cheek, which worried the blonde. “He suspended me for 2 weeks.” He muttered and turned to leave.
Stunned, Steph reached out to grab her BFF again only to have her hand shoved off. “Steph, I have to go. I’ll see you tomor- later…” She trailed off the last part and walked out the gate, leaving a worried and slightly hurt Steph behind.
As she left the school, she passed by Richard and Bruce but didn’t stop in her angry walk to gymnastics class. “Leah! Where are yo-“
“Can’t talk Dick! Have a great day and I hope your eye heals!” She interrupted and disappeared behind a corner, not looking back. Dick stood there dumb founded. Why was she mad? Did he do something? He turned around to see Steph running up to him. “Hey, Steph. Is something wrong with Leah?”
Steph didn’t respond as she was trying to catch her breath. After calming down she told Dick and Bruce everything. When they heard that she was suspended for standing up for herself after Magnus tried to kiss her, they were pissed.
“She had every right to punch Magnus! He can’t suspend her for defending herself!” Dick yelled, his blue eyes flaming in anger. Bruce was no different. His eyes were narrowed and cold, his jaw was clenched. With his hands balled into fists he started to walk back to the school.
“Master Bruce?” Alfred, the butler, called after him when he saw him walking back to the school. “Bruce! Where are you going!” Both Steph and Dick flinched at the look on his face when he turned around to face them. “To give principal David a piece of my mind.” He spoke. His voice dangerously low. He then turned back and continued walking into the school.
♡~♡
Leah was not having a good day after school. For starters, it started raining on her way to gymnastics class, so by the time she got there she was soaked. Then she kept messing up everything she was working on. Her mind was all over the place already, and with what happened at school was not helping.
After the fifth time she missed the bar, she was working on, she got up off the floor, grabbed her towel, water bottle, and sat down on the bench.
Sweat rolled down her neck as she watched the others in the gym work on their stuff. Bringing the bottle to her lips she took a long gulp of cool water. The feeling of it cleansing her dry throat felt nice.
Her gaze fell to the floor as she replayed the past three days in her head. She woke up and found out that heroes and villains were real and not fiction. She ran into Bruce Wayne… literally. The Joker attacked the park that she and Steph were at and he almost killed her, spent two days trying to figure out how she got there and how to get home. Attends the same school as Dick Grayson (AKA) Robin. Got suspended from school for defending herself. And to top it all off, she is the only one who remembers all this wasn’t real just a few days ago!
She grabbed her phone after a few minutes to look at the time. 5:09. Time for her to head home. She grabbed her stuff and walked to the locker room for girls. After changing she said by to her couch and started down the street.
She lived about an hour away by walking, thirty minutes by car. She took in her surroundings to make sure no one was following her. Though she didn’t see anyone she still felt as though someone was watching her and it made a shiver run down her spine.
She started to pick up the pace when she heard footsteps. She noticed that when she picked up the pace so did the person behind her. ‘Okay, so I’m being followed. Just great! Can’t I get a break?’ Leah thought, then she broke out into a run. The person following her doing the same.
I didn’t help that she wasn’t in a populated area, so it was just her and who ever was following her. Not that it wouldn’t have mattered because no one would have helped her anyway, unless it was the police or the Bats and his Boy Wonder.
She took a sharp left into an alley to try and shake off her pursuer. Dead end! She has watched enough movies and shows to know that she would run into a dead end. She should have known better because that is exactly what happened.
“Damn it.” She muttered under her breath as her eyes darted around to see if she could find a weapon or a way out, but the only thing in the alley was a few old boxes and a garbage can. She tensed and turned around when she heard footsteps at the entrance and a deep chuckle. “Well, what’s a little girl like you doing out here at this time of night?”
His voice was deep and ruff like he gargled rocks for a living. Back against the wall Leah finally got a good look at him. He was tall, with brown hair that was short and greasy, he wore a gray tank top that was stained with ketchup, or what she hoped was ketchup, and had holes in it, black sweatpants, sneakers and a pistol in his waist band.
He took a step forward. “I asked you a question kiddo.” He said menacingly as he took the gun out and pointed He was only a few feet from her, but she could still smell his nasty breath and his greasy. It was enough to make Leah gag, but she held it down as to not make him mad. “Not talking, are you?” He took another step forward. “Well, that’s rude! Didn’t your parents teach you to respect your elders?”
He was now right in front of her his breath tickled her cheek, not in a good way. Leah bit back a whimper as he slammed his hand into the wall next to her head hard. “Answer me, damn it!” he yelled in her face.
Leah opened her dark brown eyes. She needs to get out. She could kick him off and make a run for it. But he had a gun, and she wasn’t sure if she could disarm him without getting shot. She was good at martial arts but wasn’t trained for this. She would most likely get shoot before she even got out of the alley. She could try knocking him unconscious. But once again the gun was her biggest problem.
The man, who Leah had decided to name ‘Smelly’, growled in anger as she still didn’t answer his question. “Why are you being so difficult you brat!” He brought his left hand close to her face as he used his dirty fingers to push some of Leah’s hair out of her face. This time she let out a whimper of fear and closed her eyes tight. She just wanted to go home, sleep, maybe even cuddle with her mom.
‘Smelly’ made a sad face as he looked at Leah’s scared one. Tears started to form in his eyes. “Oh, don’t be scared little one. I didn’t mean to scare you, I just wanted to make sure that you were okay.” Leah opened her glossy and teary eyes. She sucked in a breath when she saw the gun raised and aimed at her head. She shook as her eyes darted between the man and the weapon.
“Ssh, ssh, it’s okay. This won’t hurt a bit. I just can’t stand to see you so scared like my daughter was the night I killed her mother.” Leah’s eyes widened as she took in the information. “So, to save her from her suffering I shoot her too. Gosh, she looked so peaceful after that. I want to give you that same peace. Please, let me do that for you.”
Leah’s breath started to come in faster as she watched the man point the gun from her head to her chest right at her heart. “Please… please don’t do this…” He simply smiled, and if the situation was different then she would have thought that it was a smile to comfort a lost child. “I can’t do that sweetie. Say hi to my little girl for me, will you?” A tear rolled down his cheek as he placed his finger on the trigger.
Leah closed her eyes once more. Possibly forever. “No! Please!”
BANG!
A shot rang out followed by silence.
Notes:
A/N: Cliff hanger!! So now Leah may be dead! Who knows? Oh wait! Me! I know what happens but you don't. At least... not yet.
Chapter Text
The first thing that Leah felt was warmth, that made her skin tingle with goosebumps. The next thing that she noticed was that it was quiet, a nice quiet, like walking through a meadow on a nice summer day. Opening her dark brown eyes, she noticed that everything was slightly blurry. Was she dead? If so, was this heaven? Blinking the blurriness from her eyes she gasped and pressed herself further into the wall behind her.
In front of her was the man who had cornered her in the alley. He was still standing in front of her with that creepy smile. But he was frozen. He wasn't moving, not even the tears that were in his eyes were falling.
Why he was crying in the first place was beyond her. It was like someone had pressed pause on him like he was some sort of TV character. Looking around she took note that it wasn't just him that was frozen. The bullet from the gun in his hand was sticking out of the barrel so just the tip was showing.
'Okay let's recap here! I was on my way home from gymnastics when I noticed someone was following me, I ran into an alley which was really stupid, got cornered, the guy had my back to the wall, he pulled a gun on me. Talked about how he killed his wife and daughter and how peaceful his daughter looked after, then said that he would do the same for me, pulled the trigger, and then...'
'Nothing.'
She remembers hearing the bang of the gun but then silence. She moved her right hand and brought it up to move the man's gun out of her way. But she stopped when she noticed her hand was glowing. Staring wide eyed at her hand her breath picked up once more. "What's going on!?"
She shoved the man's hand away and stepped away from him and into the middle of the alley. As she did the glow around her expanded into a sort of bubble thing. She started to panic. This was not normal! And the situation that she was already dealing with was already not normal, she doesn't need more added to it. Her hands gripped her hair as she tried and failed to control her breathing.
Frantic eyes darted around, before finally looking around the bubble, she had yet to acknowledge. She noticed that everything outside of the bubble was frozen. It looked like time had stopped for everything except for her.
She moved her hand from her hair to the edge of the bubble to see what would happen. The bubble morphed around her hand and encased her body in that glow again. Still, everything was frozen. Looking to her left she saw a discarded piece of paper and picked it up. Once she touched it the paper was encased in the same teal glow as she was. Taking a deep, calming breath she looked at the paper in her hand and then to everything else that was frozen, when a thought crossed her mind.
Wanting to test the theory she crumpled the paper into a ball and threw it. As soon as it left her hand the glow disappeared, and it froze in mid-air a few feet from her.
Leah stared at it with wide eyes. Her theory was correct. She could freeze time. Taking a step forward she looked at the paper when a glint of metal caught her eye. Looking up she saw a Batarang frozen in mid-air heading for the man's gun. She looked up at the top of the building to see Batman with his arm stretched out in a throwing position.
"What the hell?" Blinking, she shifted her gaze between the Bat themed weapon and its owner. "Has he been stalking me?" Panic set in. "Holy crap! Does he suspect me or something?... It's not like he wouldn't suspect something! He's The Batman!"
She groaned and put her head in her hands. 'This just keeps going from bad to worse!' She thought.
Leah looked down at her hands in bafflement. Why was this happening? Was she being punished? If so, why? What had she done for her life to take such a turn?
Tears pricked her eyes as her thoughts spiraled, the teal that covered her body started to fade. Her head snapped up and out of her thoughts when she felt a gust of wind rush past her head. She looked at the paper and Batarang as they slowly started to pick up speed. Time was beginning to flow normally as the time bubble was fading away. She heard something hit the wall behind her, the man shot and turned her head to see the man laying on the floor holding his bloody hand. The bullet had hit the wall and the Batarang had hit its target.
Not wanting to stick around she ran out of the alley and towards her house. The only thought she had at the moment was. Why was this happening?
♡~♡
After Bruce 'talked' with the principal and got things sorted, her suspension was cancelled. The principal realized after being thoroughly cowed by Mr. Wayne that allowing bullying no matter whose parent is contributing to the school was probably not the best decision for his career choices.
After retrieving Dick and heading back to the Manor Bruce decided to find out we're Leah was at the moment. Finding her location at the Gymnasium was easy with the tracker he put on her earlier in the day. He dawned his Bat costume and headed into the city.
Arriving at the place he sat on the roof top and watched as she went through her routine noticing that she was messing up and very distracted.
When she was finally out, he was about to follow when he heard shouts and glass breaking from behind him. Not wanting to lose sight of her but also not wanting to let people get hurt he turned around and headed off to the commotion before continuing with his original plan. It didn't take long for him to stop the robbery at a local pawn shop, but those were precious minutes not watching his target that he would come to regret.
Running across the rooftops he was nearing an alley that he saw her run into being chased. He hoped he could get there in time, but he was too far away to do anything immediately. Then he heard her shout "No! Please!". He drew his Batarang from his utility belt and dead stopped at the edge of the roof overlooking the alley acquiring his target. He saw Leah cowering against the alley wall with a gun at her chest.
But he was too late. As he threw the Batarang, he heard the gun shot. Dread filled him as the world seemed to stop and rage flooded his body, and he had tunnel vision as he focused in on the assailant. He growled out "No!" and leapt from the roof and down into the alley crashing on top of the man who was holding his injured hand.
He picked the man off the ground and pinned him to the wall. Hitting him so hard in his face that he broke his jaw. "What. Have. You. Done!" The man unable to answer, because of his broken jaw, his eyes rolled back into his head unconscious.
Batman let him drop to the floor like a ragdoll. He looked down at his feet not wanting to see the scene behind him. It being an all too familiar scene of his own parents' death. 'Half a second. That's all I needed was half a second to save her.' He scolded himself. Batman turned around, his eyes widening in shock. There was no body, no blood, just a bullet hole in the brick from where Leah once stood.
She was gone. "What the hell happened?" Batman muttered to himself.

It was now 6:10 pm 10 minutes passed when she was supposed to be home. The entire run home she thought about calling Steph and telling her what had happened, but she didn't, she wanted to figure it out on her own first before including anyone else.
She opened the door to her house and was met with silence. Her mom wouldn't be home for another few hours and for once Leah was glad about that. Closing the door behind her, she took off her shoes then headed to her room.
Once in the privacy of her room she changed out of her leotard and shorts and into some sweats and a Robin T-shirt. She then flopped onto her bed with a tired groan. She pulled out her phone and noticed that she had a lot of missed messages and calls from Both Steph and her mom.
Sitting up she called her mom first. It rang 3 times before she finally picked up. "Leah! Are you okay? You didn't answer any of my calls or texts."
Leah smiled. "Hey, mom and yeah, I'm okay. I turned my phone off for gymnastics so I could focus and forgot to turn it back on, sorry." That wasn't a lie. Well not a total lie. She did turn her phone off when she got there but not to focus, she just didn't want anyone contacting her at the moment.
Her mom told her that she wouldn't be home till late tomorrow night because she had taken the shifts of another co-worker. "I'm so sorry honey. I'll try to make it up to you when I get back, okay? I love you." Leah's smile faded. "Yeah, I love you too, Oma." She hung up the phone and stared off into space for a moment.
'It's okay, Lee. She's not doing this on purpose. She just want's what's best for you. Besides with mom out I can focus on this 'Freezy time thingy'.' She told herself. She turned back to her phone and called Steph. It rang once before she answered. "Girl! I've been trying to reach you all day!" Leah winced as Steph yelled in her ear. "Sorry, anyway what's up?"
"Okay, you are not going to believe this! After you left, I told Dick what happened and how you were suspended."
Leah groaned. "Don't remind me. I still haven't told my mom yet."
"Well, don't. Because, when I told Dick about all that, Bruce Wayne was standing behind him and heard everything and he was pissed! He marched down to the office and threatened the principal that he would call the police and report Magnus for 'sexual assault' and him with 'failure to protect a minor' as well as remove all his funding for the school that he gives! Also, I think he did call the police on Magnus or at least someone did because the top News story was that 16-year-old Magnus Coldwell was arrested."
Leah's eyes widened as she took in what her bestie was telling her. "Because of the money that his parents paid he was let out after an hour or so, but still!" Leah's mind suddenly caught up to her. "Wait, Bruce Wayne, the richest guy in all of Gotham, the play-boy himself--did all of that for a kid that he doesn't even know? Why?"
Steph sighed. "Leah, I honestly don't know. Maybe he did it since you and Dick are friends? I don't know. But what I do know is that if he didn't threaten the principal for what he did then I would have! And good news! You're not suspended!"
"Wait really! That's awesome! I also want to thank you for standing up for me and willing to go and chew out the principal. You're a great friend Steph." After a short pause Steph said. "Awe! You're making me blush! Anyway, how was gymnastics? You didn't have any trouble, right?" Leah's shoulders tensed at the question as memories of the man, gun, and teal glow came back. She shook her head. No, she couldn't tell Steph about this. Not yet. "It was okay. I kept messing up on some stuff because of the whole 'suspended' thing."
She heard Steph 'hum' in agreement. "Yeah, well I'm glad that it's all sorted out. Anyway, I just wanted to check up on you and make sure that you were okay. I'll see you tomorrow! Bye, Lee!" Leah said her goodbyes as well and hung up the phone before flopping backwards onto her bed with a content sigh and a smile on her face. She could always count on Steph to be there when she needed her the most.
A frown spread across her face as she brought her hand in front of her. 'I need to figure this out. Maybe the Dark Knight can help me? You know some point after I tell him I know his and every other hero's secret. Ha, just imagine that conversation.'
After a few minutes she drifted off to sleep. Completely unaware of the shadow figure of a person with horns appearing in her mirror with a grin that would make the Joker jealous.
♡~♡
The next day at school went by in a blur. The only thing that she could focus on was the fact that she had time abilities, which she was still working on controlling, and that for her final project she had to write a report on Bruce 'FRICKING' Wayne! 'Okay, okay. Don't panic. Just Don't panic. This Is Me NOT Panicking!... okay... okay... I'M PANICKINIG!!!'
The teacher had assigned each kid a different person to do from around the world. Someone got Lex Luther, another got The Flash, heck Dick got Superman! And of course, the universe decides to screw her over yet again and give her Bruce Wayne!
And now she found herself standing in front of the steps of Wayne manor trying to build up the courage to knock on the door and ask for an interview. All the kids, except for maybe Dick, were going to the internet to find their material for their paper. Leah, however, wanted to talk to him in person if he would let her.
She always found that the best stories were the ones written from talking to the person who experienced what got them to where they are now. Taking a deep breath, she walked up the steps, hands in her hoodie pocket. Once she was standing in front of the double doors, she pulled her left hand out of her pocket and raised it up to knock, but hesitated when her hand was an inch from the wood.
"Ugh, what am I doing? I know enough about him I don't need to do this. Especially, since I know of his other job!" She muttered to herself pulling her hand away from the door till it was hovering slightly in front of her chest.
She glanced from the door to the driveway, she walked up to get there and continued to do this for about a minute or so before sighing in frustration and knocking on the door. And... stops. Panic sets in as she starts to pace the front porch and mutters to herself. "Just knock! It's knocking it shouldn't be that hard!" She turned to the door to knock and paused her movements and started pacing again. "Knock! It is the easiest thing to do. Just knock on the door and say 'hello'."
She moves to the door to knock again but stops once more and begins pacing nervously as she continues to mutter. "Okay! That's it! Just knock on the door and say 'hello'." She turned to knock, fully committed to doing so when the most cringe worthy greeting in history happened. "...Hi..." Her hand turned from a knock to an awkward wave. Standing before her was the stoic face of Alfred Pennyworth with a raised eyebrow. "If you are here to wear out our welcome mat then you are doing a splendid job." He drawled out in his famous British accent. "May I help you, Miss?"
Leah froze and turned back to look at the elderly man with a nervous smile. "Uh, I... um," She coughed into her fist to clear her throat. 'Come on Lee! You've made it this far!'
"Hi, my name is Leah Chong. I am a student at New- I mean Gotham Academy and I am writing a report on Bruce Wayne for my final project for the summer school semester. And I was hoping I could interview him personally to get all the facts straight. Would that be alight?"
Alfred stared at her for a moment, looking her up and down, before looking into her eyes like he was searching for something. Was he looking for a lie? Because if so, she was hiding something very big and still hasn't told anyone about it. He went to reply when a voice stopped him.
"Alfred, who's at the door?" Alfred stepped to the side to let Bruce come to the door. "Master Bruce, this is Ms. Leah Chong. She says that she wishes to interview you for her final summer school project sir. I was just about to come and get you." Bruce looked down at the girl who was just a little smaller than Dick and smiled. "Oh, so you're Leah. I was the one who talked to the principal and got you unsuspended. Sure, I don't mind doing an interview. I don't have anything scheduled till later tonight anyway." He then motioned for her to follow. 'Ah, yes, later tonight. As in putting on a Bat costume and jumping from building to building beating up other people in costumes to help with your past trauma! Such a normal thing to do on a Wednesday night.' She thought to herself as she was nervously led into the manor.
Leah followed Bruce as they walked down several different kinds of hallways. Thinking to herself. 'Man, you could fit entire houses in these hallways.'
She cleared her throat to get his attention. "Um, by the way Mr. Wayne, you didn't have to do that for me." Bruce looked at her and smiled. "Nonsense, you didn't do anything wrong. I had to make it right." They made it to the library. Burce walked over to some couches that stood opposite of the other. Leah stood in the doorway of the library looking around in awe.
After a few minutes of looking around the two-story library, which would be any book lover's dream, her eyes landed on Bruce who was sitting on one of the couches with a smile on his face. Leah chuckled nervously and rubbed the back of her neck.
She walked over to the other couch and took a seat. She reached into her hoodie pocket and pulled out a small note pad, pen, and her phone. She looked up at Bruce with a small smile. "Um, is it okay if I record this to listen to later in case, I miss anything?" Bruce nodded his head. Leah set her phone on the coffee table in front of them and pressed record.
Just then Alfred walked in. "Would you like anything to drink Master Bruce?" Bruce asked for a cup of coffee for him and a glass of water for Leah. Alfred got their drinks and then left to go finish his chores. Bruce turned to face Leah after thanking the butler. "So, where should we begin?"
Leah looked down at her notepad and sighed. She started to ask him the usual questions you would expect. What's it like to run such a big company? Is it difficult to have a target on your back for being one of the richest men in Gotham? The normal stuff like that.
After about 30 minutes of this Leah put her pen down and paused the recorder before looking down at the floor. 'I need to tell him. I need to tell him I know! Maybe he can help me? He's Batman after all.' Leah thought. "Uh, Mr. Wayne? Can I ask you a question that is a little, um, how do I put it? O-off topic." Leah lifted her head and looked into his blue eyes as she stuttered out the question.
A short silence followed, and it was killing her. She shifted uncomfortably under his gaze as he held eye contact. Leah had half a mind to tell him never mind and just leave right then and there. Whether it be from the front door or the window in the library! She didn't care at this point.
Bruce raised one of his dark eyebrows at the question. "Um, I suppose. What's the question?" Leah let out a shaky breath, eyes closing, as she thought that she could be doing anything else then tell him that she knows he's Batman. Like going toe to toe with the Joker she would do that in a heartbeat. Or tell her mom that she failed a test and get grounded for a month! That sounded appealing right now.
But she did this to herself and there was no going back now. Besides she needs help, she can't deal with all of this on her own.
So, taking a deep breath she asked the question that would determine her fate. "What's... what's your connection to the Dark Knight?" She opened her dark brown eyes and flinched when she saw the glare sent her way. This was it. If she thought that she was going to die by the hand of the Joker, then she was wrong. She was going to die by the Bat-glare that was being sent her way.
Hands shaking with fear and anxiety she curled them into fists and pressed them into her knees. It hurt but it was a distraction from the growing panic that was settling into her chest. Taking in a shuttering breath she looked back at Burce. She was going to get through this.
"What is your connection to the Dark Knight?" She repeated. Bruce stood up and continued to glare at her. "I have no idea what you are talking about. But I think that its time for you to go." He walked to the door of the library. But before he could open it Leah continued.
"I know your Batman Mr. Wayne!" He stopped and stood there. Seeing as he wasn't saying anything she calmed herself as much as she could and continued. "I know that your Batman, I know that Dick is Robin, and I... I need your help. Please." She begged. He turned around slowly with a blank look.
The two stared at each other before he spoke, his voice no longer was kind Burce Wayne willing to take an interview, this was Batman that was standing in front of her now. The 'If you piss me off you better sleep with one eye open' guy. A tremor ran through her body as her mind told her to run, to hide, to just get out of there! But Leah held her ground.
His once kind blue eyes were now as cold as ice piercing into hers as he silently interrogated her. She knew that he knew that she wanted to run, to hide but even if she could he wouldn't let her, she was in his territory now.
"Talk." And that one word sent shivers down her spine and made her knees go weak. Just like that Leah knew that she was climbing out of one hell and into another.

Tense and awkward. That was the atmosphere of the room. Leah had sat back down on the couch and was fidgeting with her hands as Bruce stared… glared at her.
After telling Bruce she knew who he was and that she needed his help Bruce had told her to talk and now she couldn’t utter a word. She was too scared to do so. And Bruce glaring at her like the Joker had just stolen his favorite cape was not helping.
“Well.” Bruce said in his Batman voice. Leah cleared her throat before swallowing the lump in it. “I… a… um…” She groaned in frustration. “You’re a really hard person to talk to you know that right?” Bruce’s glare deepened.
Leah shivered. ‘How about not making the most powerful man in Gotham angry Lee!’ She scolded herself. Letting out a breath to calm herself she spoke. “Okay, okay. You already know my name, but the thing is, I’m not from here,” Bruce raised an eyebrow, but his glare never faltered, “I’m from a world where heroes and villains don’t exist. They’re fiction.” She took a deep breath. “In my world this world- this reality – it’s called the ‘DC Universe’, someone created it made everything. Your backstory, your life, your-.” She stopped herself.
“You get the idea. 4 days ago, I was in my room watching a show called ‘Young Justice’. A show where the sidekicks of the heroes form their own team and work together. While watching it my laptop froze. Deciding that I had watched enough, considering it was 12 in the morning, I turned it off and went to bed. I woke up at 6 that morning to my BFF calling me and asking me if I had heard about what happened with Superman, to which I told her no.” Leah took a risk and looked up at Bruce.
“I-I thought that she was talking about a new episode that had come out that I hadn’t heard about yet. But when I asked her if it was a new episode she laughed and told me to check the news. And I did, that’s when I found out that I was in a different place. A different world.” She muttered the last part quietly, but Bruce still heard. He was Batman after all.
“Anything else?” Bruce growled. To which Leah flinched but nodded. “Y-yeah. I noticed that the only others that are here as well are my mom and Steph, my bestie. But out of all of them I am the only one that remembers that this should all be fake. And I don’t even know if I can get back.” A soft sob escaped her. “But that’s not even the last of it.” Bruce blinked. Sure, he was still mad that she knows his secret identity, and he wasn’t really believing all this BS. But how could there be more? What more could she add to this tower of impossible odds?
“Monday, after gymnastics class I was walking home when I noticed that someone was following me. He cornered me in an alley and had a gun. He told me that he killed his wife and then his daughter after she saw to ‘give her peace’ and wanted to give me the same ‘peace’ since I was scared. He… he pulled the trigger.” Leah looked at Bruce.
“I heard the shot. I heard it ring out. Then the silence, then I felt warm, then I noticed that it was quiet. I thought I was dead. But when I opened my eyes, I saw that man was frozen. It was like someone had pressed pause or something. But it wasn’t just him it was everything around me.”
Leah’s eyes narrowed slightly. “But you were there that night. I saw you.” Bruce continued to stare at her before sighing. “Yes. I was there. I was wondering how you disappeared.” He paused and stood walking to the window and looking out of it. “Now I do.”
Leah stayed seated as she stared at Bruce’s back. “Please. I just want to know what is going on and I want to go home.” Her voice cracked slightly. Bruce looked at her reflection in the window.
Turning from the window Bruce walked to the door leading out of the library. Leah watched as he stopped in front of the door. “Well?” He turned slightly to face her. “You coming?” Leah hesitantly nodded before getting off the couch and following Bruce down the halls to his study. Bruce led her to the old grandfather clock that was there and pushed a button that was hidden on the side. As the clock was lifted into the air by mechanisms Leah said, “You’re taking me to the Batcave!”
Bruce glanced at her with a small smirk before turning back to the lift that now replaced where the clock was. He was clearly still not happy that she knew stuff about him, but her excitement amused him. He entered the lift and motioned for her to follow.
Once in the lift the door closed, and it started to move down. The sudden motion caused Leah to stumble and crash into Bruce though she hadn’t noticed. “A, aswiwo! eoriseogeun jungryeok.” (Ah, shit! Stupid gravity.) she muttered. Finally realizing that someone had caught her before she fell, she looked up to see Bruce staring back at her with an amused look.
She quickly pulled away from Bruce’s arms and crashed into the wall behind her looking away from him. “S-sorry about that.” Bruce just grunted no longer looking at her. The lift stopped moving and the door opened, Bruce stepped out first and headed straight for the Bat-computer. Leah stayed in the lift a few seconds longer before she stepped out. The Batcave was huge and filled with all sorts of tech and other things.
Leah’s mouth opened wide as she walked around looking at all the gadgets, bats, and trophies. She finally walked up behind Bruce where he was seated at the Bat-computer. Looking up at the big screen she asked. “So, what exactly are we doing down here?” Bruce didn’t turn to look at her, he just kept typing.
“I’m going to take a blood sample from you.” Leah looked at him confused. “Um, not to be rude. But why?” He finished typing something then got up and walked to another part of the cave Leah trailing behind him.
“Getting a blood sample will help us figure out your abilities and from there I can come up with a training schedule for you so you can better control them.” The two were now in the infirmary. “Sit.” Bruce ordered, and pointed at the bed. Leah hopped on and sat there as she waited for Bruce to draw her blood. ‘Now that I think about it sounds like he’s a vampire. Yeesh.’ She thought.
“So, you know everything about us?” Leah watched as Bruce gathered the supplies for the blood draw. “Um, yeah. If this world follows what I know then yeah, I do.” Bruce looked at her and his eyes widened slightly. Leah looked at him confused. “What? Do I have something on my face?” Bruce pointed to his cheek then gestured to her’s. “Your cut. It’s gone.”
Dark brown eyes widened. She grabbed her phone and opened the camera app and looked at her face to see, indeed, that the cut the Joker gave her was gone. “What. How?” Bruce thought before turning back to what he was doing. “Looks like that’s something we’ll have to figure out. Now what do you know about us?” He asked getting back on topic.
Leah looked back at her reflection before putting her phone away and staring down at her hands that rested on her lap. “Past, present, future. I know the important people you’ll meet, the ones who leave willingly, the ones who… die.”
Leah’s voice grew quiet with the last sentence. Bruce looked at her for a moment before finishing prepping the items and walking over to her, setting the tray of tools beside her. He put on a pair of gloves and got to work. “So, you knew that the Joker would attack that day?” Leah continued to look at the ground as she took off her hoodie to reveal a plain white T-shirt underneath and shook her head. “No, I didn’t.”
Bruce started the process of locating the vein. “But you just said that you could tell me my past, present, and future.” Successfully finding the vein Bruce started to disinfect the area. “I know the major events that happen. Or at least the events that I already know, I don’t know the in between. The day Joker attacked I didn’t know what day it was, there fore, I didn’t know that that was the day that the team Wally, Megan, Kaldur, Dick, and Superboy fought that android and won.” After Bruce disinfected the spot where the vein was, he took out the needle and put it into her arm, Leah flinched. “If I had known the day, then I would have known that had happened without looking at the news,” she said as she fiddled with the hem of her shirt. “As for the Joker, I didn’t know he would be there. Like I said, I only know the important stuff.”
Bruce removed the needle and put a band-aid on the wound. He stood up and put the vial of blood into a machine—probably to scan the blood. Leah rubbed her now sore arm, hopping off of the bed and put her hoodie back on.
“So, you know what happened at Cadmus?” Bruce looked at her and Leah nodded. “Tell me.”
Leah sat down in a chair next to Bruce. “Well, let's see. It was the day that you, Flash, Aquaman, and Green Arrow were taking Robin, Speedy, Kid Flash, and Aqualad to the Hall of Justice. It was supposed to be THE day, as the four put it, in taking a step closer to becoming full-fledged members of the Justice League. That was until they found out that the Hall was just a cover for the real Justice League headquarters, which is located in space.”
Bruce was now leaning against a table as he listened to her retell him what happened, even though he was there for this part and had read the report.
Leah continued. “Speedy was furious, so, he quit. Said he was going to prove he deserved to be a member on his own. Then you all got called on a mission that was an all hands on deck. So, while you all were busy with that KF, Robin, and Aqualad went to Cadmus to deal with the stuff there to prove themselves as more than just sidekicks. They wanted to prove that they were your guys’ equals.”
Leah rested her head in her hand and looked at the wall beside her with a bored expression. “While there they found Superboy. A clone made from Superman’s DNA to one day stop him should he ever stray from the path of the Light.”
Bruce noticed the wording for ‘the light’ and filed that away for later.
“The three young heroes fought him but were then captured and were going to be cloned till Superboy saved them. Dr. Desmen turned into a monster, tried to kill them, they won, then you all showed up, gave them the mountain, introduced them to M’ghann Martian Man-hunters niece and from there, now that I know what part I’m at, I can know what will happen next.”
Bruce put his hand to his chin as he took in the information. “So, you really do know what will happen or what has happened.” He muttered to himself. Suddenly Leah’s phone rang. “Hello?… Sorry mom… Yeah, we’re finished… okay I’m on my way shouldn’t be to long… no it’s fine… okay love you to bye.” Leah hung up the phone and placed it in her pocket before standing up and stretching. “Sorry, Mr. Wayne but I have to go. Tell me the results when there done.”
Bruce nodded his head and watched as she left before turning back to the sample. After a few minutes it was done. But what was weird was that a light was blinking indicating that something was wrong. He took a look. “What the hell.”
Leah had reached her house within 45 minutes. She walked up the steps to her door and used her key to get in. Softly shutting the door behind her she took off her shoes. “Oma, I’m home!” She called. “In the kitchen.” Was the response she got.
Walking to the kitchen she saw her mom finishing making dinner. “Do you need help?” Olivia shook her head as she gestured to her daughter to sit down.
Leah nodded her head and went to the bathroom to wash up before eating. As she washed her hands she looked into the mirror. Looking at her cheek she still couldn’t believe that the cut had healed. She snapped out of her thoughts when there was a knock on the bathroom door. “Leah, dinners ready.” Her mom said on the other side.
“Okay, I’ll be out in a minute.” She called back. Looking back at her reflection she left the bathroom with a sigh. Dinner was normal and for that she was grateful. It was nice to do something familiar for once. After dinner Leah helped her mom by washing the dishes while Olivia cleared the table. After that was done Leah excused herself to her room so she could do her homework.
She sat at her desk, pulled out her phone and note pad, grabbed her laptop and started to work on her final project. Finally reaching a stopping point she looked at the time to see that it was 8:47 pm. Wanting to take a break she stretched her arms above her head and went to the bathroom to change into something more comfortable.
Coming out of the bathroom she threw her clothes into a laundry basket. She was walking back to her desk when something moving in the corner of the room caught her eye. Tilting her head to the side she took a step closer, and her heart leapt out of her chest when she saw Batman walk out of the shadows. She screamed bloody murder.
“AAAAHHHHH!” She fell to the floor landing on her bum. Looking up she noticed that he was frozen in place. ‘Great. I froze Batman. Well, that’s what he gets for sneaking into my room!’ Leah thought as she tried to calm her racing heart.
Once she was calm, she looked at the Bat in her room again and froze. “How do I unfreeze him?” She muttered. “Where’s the off switch?” She started to pat herself down.
When nothing changed, she walked up to Batman and stood toe to toe with him. “Uh, Bats?” She poked his face. Once again, he didn’t move. Groaning she poked him again. “Yo, Bats you there?” Silence.
She was about to poke him again when she jumped back and about pissed her pants. “What are you doing?”
“Great World Above!” She screamed and slammed into the side of her bed. Leah brought a hand to her chest and breathed heavily. “Do you enjoy scaring the crap out of people or something?!” Bruce just smirked at her before crouching down in front of her.
“It’s a hobby.” Was all he said. She just rolled her eyes.
“Leah? Is everything okay?” Leah looked between Bruce and her door before replying. “Yeah, mom! Just… um… saw a bat fly past my window! Scared me.” She looked at Batman to see him with his arms crossed, and though she couldn’t see his face she could tell that he was raising an eyebrow under the cowl. “Really.”
She just shrugged. “Okay, good night, Lee!” Her mom called. “Night, Oma!” She called back.
Leah looked back at Bruce and adjusted her position on the bed, so she sat more comfortable. “So, what’s up? Why’d you sneak into my house?” Bruce sighed and straightened his posture. “I think we need to see Dr. Fate or Diana.”
Now it was her turn to raise an eyebrow. “What? Why?” He looked into her eyes a frown on his face. “Because half your DNA is missing.”

Chapter Text
Leah stared at Batman as she processed the information. Half her DNA was missing! After the words bounced around in her head for a moment her eyes widened. “What!?” She yelled before quickly slapping a hand over her mouth and looking at her bedroom door.
When her mom didn’t come through she removed her hand and let out a sigh of relief before facing Bruce once more. “What do you mean half my DNA’s missing?” She asked. Bruce, who was now crouching in front of her, let out a sigh. “I don’t know. That’s why we need to see Dr. Fate or Diana.” He stood up and started to walk to the window.
Leah changed positions from sitting to standing and looked at Bruce’s back with a raised eyebrow. “Wait. We’re going to see them right now?”
The older man stood in front of the window and turned around to face her. “Yes.” Was all he said. Leah rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. “Yeah, don’t know how my mom will feel about me sneaking out at night, with a man who dresses up as a bat, and going to see an Amazon princess or a magic doctor about my blood.”
As Leah said this she was grabbing her shoes and a hoodie, a smirk plastered on her face the whole time. Once she was done she walked up to Bruce and flashed him an innocent smile. “What? I’m a teen we like to break the rules from time to time.” Bruce just rolled his eyes and turned back to the window.
Bruce wrapped an arm around Leah’s waist while she wrapped her arms around his neck. Once he made sure she wasn’t going to fall he shot out his grappling hook and swung off into the night towards Wayne manor and to the Batcave so they could get to the Watch Tower.
Once at the cave Bruce went over to the Zata Tubes and started to put in the coordinates for the Watch Tower. Leah stood a few feet behind him and watched him work when a thought came to mind. “Where’s Dick?”
She looked around half expecting the young Robin to come flying or flipping out of a random part of the cave. Bruce continued to work, but still answered her. “He’s back at the mountain with his teammates.” Leah nodded her head.
The Zata Tube lit up with life and Bruce turned to look at her. “I assume you know what this is and what it does?” He asked gesturing to the machine. She smiled. “Yes, I do!” He handed her a domino mask and turned back to the machine.
“I’ll go first. The Zata Tube will go dark for a second while I give you the guest access, then you come through. Understand?” Leah saluted him. “Yes, sir Mr. Bats, sir!”
Bruce rolled his eyes under the cowl and muttered something about kids before entering the Zata Beam. Like Batman said it went dark for a second before it came back to life. She stepped up to the machine and stood directly in front of it. Sighing she put the mask on, pulled her hood up, and walked into the machine she thought she would never step foot into.
There was a flash of light and then she was no longer in the Batcave located under Wayne manor. No, she was now in space. In the Watch Tower. She couldn’t believe it, she was actually in the Watch Tower! The place she could only dream of being and now she was here! She was so excited that she had to pinch herself to stop from letting out a girly scream.
As she stared in awe, much like she did when she saw the Batcave in person for the first time, and barely heard the robotic female voice announce her presence before it faded away. Batman looked at her with a small smile before he replaced it with his normal Batman face as Wonder Woman, Martian Man-hunter, Superman, and Dr. Fate came walking up to the two of them.
Leah, although excited to see them, took a slight step back and behind Bruce as their presence was intimidating. “Batman, what is so important that we needed to meet now?” Superman asked as his eyes briefly looked over to Leah who’s head was peaking out from behind the Dark Knight.
Batman sighed. “I need some help with… her.” Bruce side stepped and showed all of Leah to the four of them. Leah lifted her hand in an awkward wave. “Uh, hi…” The four Justice League members looked at one another before Clark sighs and rubs his eyes.
“Another one? Really?” Batman growled at the kryptonian and began to explain a little of why she was there but not much. Leah would have listened to the conversion if it weren’t for the fact that she felt someone staring at her. She looked past Superman and found Diana staring at her intently.
Leah locked eyes with the Amazon and stared back. After a few minutes, their staring contest was broken as Batman spoke. “Can we talk somewhere in private?” The league member’s nodded and all of them walked to the conference room. Once the door was shut and locked did more questions get thrown at the Bat.
“Why is she here?”
“Does she know your ID?”
“Why bring her the Tower?”Bruce rubbed his eyes with a tired sigh. “I brought her here because there is something that she needs help with. Yes, she does know who I am. Again, I brought her here to talk to Diana and Dr. Fate.” He answered all the question’s and looked down at the teen.
“Longer story short I was checking her blood when I noticed that something wasn’t right.” Superman and Martian Man-hunter looked at each other confused, but Wonder Woman and Dr. Fate seemed to know where this was going. “Half her DNA was missing.”
The kryptonian and Martian looked shocked, Dr. Fate uncrossed his arms and excused himself from the room, and Diana looked like she had confirmed a theory. “I wanted to ask Wonder Woman and Dr. Fate what they think this could be.”
The three heroes that were in the room turned to the Amazon princess for answers. Leah watched with baited breathe as the warrior stared her down. “Demigod.” The room went silent. Leah stared up at Diana, her dark brown eyes widening behind the mask. Leah’s mind raced. ‘Demi what!’
“I’m sorry, what?” Diana crouched down so she was eye level with the child. “A Demigod is someone who has a mortal parent and a godly one.” Diana explained. Leah tilted her head in confusion and to help with the growing headache that was pounding behind her eyes. “How can you tell?”
She was trying to stay as calm as possible with all this new information. After everything that has happened to her so far this should not be that weird. But… it was. How could she be a Demigod when she wasn’t from this world? It didn’t make since. Like at all.
“I can sense it. Plus with what Batman told us, about half your DNA missing, Demigod’s are the only ones who have half of their DNA missing.” Leah looked down at the ground and placed a hand on her head as she began to feel dizzy. ‘I’m a Demigod…’ Leah thought as the room began to sway. Diana got up from her crouched position and turned to Batman.
“Are you sure?” Bruce asked but it sounded far away to Leah. It was like she was under water. “Almost one hundred percent. But I’ll have to take her Themyscira to be sure.” Leah tried to focus, she really did, but her brain couldn’t take anymore of this and she started to sway on her feet, her headache growing worse.
Bruce had said something about not taking her to Themyscira but at this point she was having a hard time keeping her eyes open. She blinked a few times to try and clear the dizziness away if anything it made it worse. Lifting her head ever so slightly she looked at the adults in the room. “Bruce?”
The sound of her soft and somewhat pained voice and slurred words had all the adults looking at her. “I don’t feel so good…” With that being said she fell forward and would have hit the ground had it not been for Bruce catching her in time. He gently lowered her and himself to the ground and held her in his arms, as he looked for any injuries that might have caused this.
When he found none he placed his hand to her forehead and felt the pounding of a headache. Frowning he placed one hand under her knees and the other under her back and stood up gently. He walked out of the conference room with the three Justice League members following.
“Bruce, where are you going?” Diana asked. He didn’t say anything as he walked to the Zata Tubes. “I’m taking her to get some rest. We will talk about what to do tomorrow.” And with that he Zata Beamed out of the Tower and back to the Batcave.
As Bruce walked out of the Zata Tube he was greeted by Alfred and… Dick. ‘Great, just what I needed.’ He thought as he got closer to them. Dick looked up from the Bat-computer and opened his mouth to say something but stopped when he spotted the unconscious teen in his arms, a domino mask covering their eyes.
“Bruce? Who is that?” Dick asked as he stood up and followed Bruce to the infirmary, Alfred close behind. The three of them walked in, Bruce set the teen down on a bed, Alfred started to check them for injuries, and Dick stood in the doorway watching. Finally, Bruce spoke. “Dick, this is Leah.” He took the mask of the teen’s face, and Dick’s eyes widened. “It’s a long story that I promise to tell you but now isn’t the time.”
Dick’s eyes shifted between Leah’s unconscious form and Bruce’s eyes, but nodded. Bruce smiled and went to go change out of his costume. It was going to be a long night.
555
A groan could be heard throughout the room as Leah came to. Opening her eyes she stared at the ceiling as her mind caught up to her. ‘Okay, Bruce came to my house to tell me something. We went to the Watch Tower. Then Bruce talked with Diana. Then…’ Leah sat up holding her head as she tried to remember what exactly happened.
Her eyes widened as the events of the past hour or so, she’s not sure how much time had past, played through her head. “I-I’m a Demigod…” She whispered to herself. “I’m a Demigod,” she ran a hand through her hair. “How is this even possible?”
“That’s what we are trying to figure out.” Her head turned to the source of the voice. It was Dick. She didn’t even hear him come in. “Dick?” He nodded his head and walked further into the room till he was standing next to the bed. She sighed. “So, you know, huh?” Dick sighed and sat on the edge of the bed.
“I don’t know everything, Bruce won’t tell me.” He stared at the sheets for a moment before lifting his head. “I was hoping you could tell me what’s going on.” Leah stared at him for a moment before smiling. “Fine. But only if you tell me how I ended up in a room at Wayne manor.” Dick smiled. “Deal.”
Leah then told him everything. How she got there. How she knew everyone’s hero and civilian identity’s, even the villains. How she knew the past, present, and future events that were going to happen. How half her DNA was missing. How Diana said that she might be a Demigod.
After she’s done explaining everything, Dick begins to tell her that when Bruce came back from the Watch Tower he was carrying her in his arm unconscious. “Alfred checked you over and told us that it was stress. After about 30 minutes Alfred said that you could be moved. Bruce brought you up to the manor and placed you in one of the rooms we don’t use.”
Leah nodded along as he explained. “That was 3 hours ago.” Leah looked to the window and noticed that it was still dark. “What time is it?” Dick pulled out his phone and checked the time. “12:47 am” They both said at the same time. Dick looked shocked at her. “How did you do know what time it is? You didn’t even look at the phone? And there’s no clock in here.” Leah looked back to Dick and pulled her knees to her chest. “I’m not sure how, but I suddenly know what time it is… everywhere.”
Dick leaned back on his hands. “Well that’s useful.” He said in a playful tone trying to relieve the tension in the room. But it wasn’t working very well. Leah curled further into herself.
“Am I a freak?” The question was whispered so low that most wouldn’t be able to hear it, but thanks to all his Bat-training he heard her. “What? No! Why would you think that?” She rested her chin on top of her knees and looked at her feet. “I don’t belong here, and I don’t just mean in the manor, I mean in this world.” Dick stayed quiet as she continued. “Half my DNA if missing. I might be a Demigod! And I can freeze time! That sound’s like a freak to me. At least in my world I would be considered a freak.”
Dick shifted closer to her till he was sitting on his knees in front of her. He gentle grabbed her hands. “Hey, look at me. Please?” Leah did and Dick had a smile on his face. “You want to know the good news?” She looked at him confused. What part of this situation was ‘good news?’. “Your not in your world. And I’m not trying to be mean, I promise. But your in this world, my world.” He moved one of his hands to Leah’s face and gentle lifted it when she tried to look away. “And in my world your no freak, your amazing! In only a few days you found out that you got sent to another world somehow, and your handling it like a pro!”
Leah let out a small laugh. “Your just saying that.”
“No, I’m not.” Dick stared at her intently. “I’m telling the truth. For someone who grew up in a world that has no heroes, and then suddenly got sent to a world full of them? I’d say that you are extremely brave, maybe even braver then most heroes.” Tears formed in her eyes. “I know that we just met and all, but I want you to know that I will be with you the whole time that your here. And if you can’t get home well… then your stuck with me.”
Dick connected his forehead with hers and closed his eyes. Leah let out a wet laugh as a few tears slipped from her eyes. “You remind me so much of him.” Dick pulled back and whipped her tears away with his thumb. “What do you mean?” Leah took in a deep breathe and opened her eyes with a smile on her face. “Never mind I’ll tell you some other time.” Dick nodded his head, not wanting to force her to say anything that she wasn’t comfortable with, and pulled Leah in for a hug, which she gladly excepted.
Kent Nelson walked down the corridors of the Tower of Fate with a gold helmet under his arm. Heading deep in the tower to place the helmet where no one would find it without his help. He was done. He couldn’t be Doctor Fate anymore. Not with what Nabu did. After Doctor Fate left the conference room he retreaded to the Tower of Fate to talk to Nabu. He felt something flowing off of that girl.
When he saw the floating helmet his eyes narrowed. “Nabu, what did you do?” Nelson asked with a sharp tone. He knew that he had something to do with way the girl was here and not in her world. “I did what was necessary.” Kent clinched his fists and glared at the Lord of Order.
“You took her from her world! Her home! How could that be necessary!?” He roared in anger. If Nabu had a face his expression would be one that wasn’t bothered by this out burst. “I needed help from one who knew everything about the heroes and villains of this world. She was the logical choice. Her knowledge of this world is great and the power that is inside her will aid in the battles ahead.”
Kent shook with anger as Nabu told him this. “She is a child! She had her own life and you ripped it away from her!” Kent placed his hands on the sides of his head as his body in reality grabbed the helmet. “I will not be a part of this. You brought an innocent girl into this world of evil. I will no longer be your host Nabu nor Doctor Fate.”
The helmet slid of his head, and instead of Doctor Fate, Kent Nelson stood in his place. He would keep the helmet safe till someone else could take the mantel of Doctor Fate. But from now on Kent Nelson would live out his days till he got to see his wife again.
