Work Text:
Anne struggled to take deep breaths as she ran out of space to move. She had no idea how this enormous Newborn had gotten inside the building. Some people were not doing their jobs properly, and worst of all, she had lost track of the Reborn she was supposed to look after.
She wouldn’t be surprised if the yellow Sun was escaping amidst the chaos or planning to deliver the final blow.
Anne had accidentally dropped her gun somewhere.
The monster lifted its sharp limb but never got the chance to kill her.
Because Laa-Laa jumped onto its face and dug her claws into its eyes, heat ignited in Laa-Laa’s fingers. The creature shrieked as its face began to melt. Somehow, the yellow Sun managed to climb lower and pry its threatening arm right off. Laa-Laa ran to the side where the lost gun had landed, and Anne tensed up.
She had no idea if she knew how to fire it or who she planned to use it against.
To her surprise, Laa-Laa ran over to her and held out the gun.
Despite her injury, Anne certainly was not going to stand there idly. She took the gun and fired into the monster's gaping, moving chest. It screamed and began to retreat.
Anne only stopped shooting when it staggered out through the destroyed door it had come through. She hoped it would die before it could escape the base.
The pink soldier glanced over at Laa-Laa. “You’re awfully strong, despite how small you are.”
The yellow Tele scowled with an annoyed noise.
“What? Why did you only focus on the second half of that?” Anne asked.
“Because that’s a backhanded compliment.” Lenny stepped through the ruined doorway with a disapproving sigh.
In his left arm was the other Reborn in the base, though this one couldn’t walk. Instead of legs, it had a strange parasite.
Luckily, the parasite never tried to attack Lenny, perhaps because he regularly fed it. Of course, he fed the Reborn as well.
Laa-Laa and this Reborn also didn’t like each other; they tried to kill each other every time they were left alone in the same room.
“But enough of that, you need to get to the medical wing while I try to arrange for workers to repair the damage done to the base.” Lenny shook his head with a huff.
Anne stumbled out of the room, placing her hand on the wall to steady herself as Laa-Laa followed her out—though not without giving the legless Reborn the middle finger.
He glared back with one of his own.
Anne had no idea why Laa-Laa seemed to hate him so much.
And of course, Gary stared intently at Laa-Laa being there.
“Bro, she can’t just leave; she’s a dangerous Reborn, and I’m supposed to keep an eye on her so she doesn’t kill any soldiers.” She tried to relax as much as she could against the pillows.
“Don’t call me ‘bro’,” he replied.
Laa-Laa snickered a bit.
