Chapter 1: I Wanna Be Your Man
The clouds rolled over the city of London, growing darker like a thick blanket of smoke ensnaring the city into a trap. The air was cool and calm and smelled heavily of petrichor. Late summer in London. What a beautiful and peaceful season.
Peaceful except for The Beatles.
Beatlemania continued to sweep the nation at a rapid speed and it wasn't slowing down any time soon. Each headline and TV program had John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr's faces plastered everywhere, the adoration for the four boys continued to skyrocket even more so with them recently appearing in another film, HELP! where the world finally got to see their beloved Beatles in living color, followed by the success of the album of the same name and a second North American tour.
By now, The Beatles were still on top of the world. But the Beatles weren't the only ones whose faces were plastered all over the news, now. A beautiful young actress had recently taken the world by storm and had several people eager to meet her or aspire to be like her and some saying they're lucky to know her. None more lucky than George Harrison for she would soon be his wife.
"Mmmm, Y/N," he mumbled into his pillow, still half asleep, a smile forming over his handsome face still blissfully dreaming of the love of his life, thinking about the sweet studio girl from Twickenham turned worldwide superstar in a short amount of time.
"We've got some great news to report today!" a reporter's voice echoed from downstairs on the telly or rather several TV channels in a rather loud fashion.
"Beatles guitarist George Harrison is finally tying the knot today to his beloved Y/N L/N. She has recently appeared in the wildly successful run of Romeo and Juliet."
"George Harrison is off the market ladies! The Beatles guitarist is set to wed Y/N L/N--"
"George Harrison and Y/N L/N"
"Beatles Guitarist George Harrison--"
"George Harrison"
"George. George George!" The sounds of the TV morphed into three Liverpudlian voices calling from downstairs in a rather cheerful fashion.
Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!
George's arm poked out from under the blankets followed by an audible groan as he reached for the alarm clock on his nightstand followed by the muffled sounds of the television playing downstairs and the voices calling for him to get out of bed.
"Curse you, you damn clock," he replied, groggily. "Five more minutes. Where is that stupid thing?" His arm reached the clock and shut it off, quickly returning to his moment of peace.
The bedroom door opened slowly, a slight creak emerged from it as three men, dressed in nice suits with flowers in the lapels of their jackets, had cheeky grins on their faces.
"George is still asleep isn't he?" The witty voice of John Lennon said. An impish grin crossed over his face as he turned towards Paul and Ringo.
"Shh, come on, John" Ringo whispered, placing a bejeweled finger up to his mouth. "I'd hate for George to miss his own wedding."
"Got any ideas on how we could wake him up?" The jovial voice of Paul McCartney whispered. "He's a pretty heavy sleeper y'know." John held up a finger and fished in his suit jacket pockets with his free hand.
"With these," John whispered. He pulled out three colorful party noisemakers, each one curled up perfectly as he handed them to Paul and Ringo. "This'll get him up."
Ringo looked at the party favor. "You really think these will work, John?"
"If not these we'll find another way," John replied, holding the party favor in between his fingers like a cigarette. "On the count of three. 1-2-3--"
The three men blew into their party blowers as loud as they could startling George under the covers, tangling him up in the sheets even more so.
"GAH WHAT THE--"
"HAPPY WEDDING DAY GEORGE!" The three men cheered as they continued their jovial celebrations much to their bandmate 's dismay.
George blinked his dark eyes a few times wondering if he was still half asleep or not. His dark hair askew as he rubbed his eyes. One side of his collar on his pajamas stuck up in a funny fashion. He ran his hand down his face in a poor attempt to get himself to wake up more.
"What the bloody hell was that for?" He said in between yawns. "I was in the middle of a good dream!"
"Didn't you hear us calling you from downstairs?" Paul said, raising one of his eyebrows. "We have to get to the wedding venue!"
George sat up even more so and looked at his bandmate like he had sprouted three heads. "Wait---I'm getting married today?"
"Oh come on George, don't tell me you've already forgotten your own wedding," said John. "You've only been talking about how excited you are to marry Y/N for months! Even put it on your calendar!"
George glanced at the calendar and recognized his handwriting on it and glanced quickly at the photograph he had of himself and Y/N on the chestnut nightstand thinking back to when that picture was taken. It was after she accepted his proposal. Her radiant smile and those gorgeous e/c eyes of hers staring back at him with such tenderness and joy.
A sudden surge of newfound energy erupted and exploded throughout his body like fireworks. He looked at the calendar again, his eyes doubling in size and jumping out of bed with perhaps a bit too much enthusiasm.
"Oh! Oh my God--I'm not dreaming-- my wedding is today! What time is it?! Did I oversleep? WHOA!" He tumbled out of bed, fighting with the white sheets around his ankles and nearly face planted on his bedroom floor, his body bending in ways it really shouldn't be able to making him look like he was performing an acrobatic stunt at the circus "Ow--little help here please?"
Ringo and Paul helped him to stand back up as George straightened out his pj's and went to his closet frantically looking for his suit that was set aside for today. "I swear if I overslept I'd hate myself forever if I kept Y/N waiting even longer than she needs to--Where's my suit?"
"Deep breaths, George," Ringo said as he and Paul helped to make his bed. "It's right here. Your mum wanted to press it so it'd be wrinkle free. We've still got time. Go take a quick shower. Food's on the table downstairs too."
"Ringo can you hold onto the rings for me too?" George said, grabbing a towel off of the back of his door and nearly sprinting to the bathroom.
"Already one step ahead of you, mate," Ringo said, holding the velvet box out in front of him before tucking it into the inside of his suit jacket.
"Don't worry about your mum, dad and the rest of your family, George!" John called. "They're almost ready!"
Paul glanced at his watch and looked out the window. "We best hurry then. Looks like the clouds are going to open up at any time. Oh shoot--I need to call my wife. Excuse me fellas." He quickly ran down the stairs, Ringo and John following suit as George turned the water on in the shower.
***
George's mother and father put the finishing touches on their wedding attire, Mr. Harrison fixed his tie as he looked in the mirror in the living room. He glanced at his watch and towards the stairs hoping for a sign of his son so they could get going.
"He's going to be late," Mr. Harrison replied, quickly adjusting his sleeve.
"Oh Harold dear, George will be fine," George's mother replied sweetly as she clasped her necklace around her neck and smoothed her blonde hair. "Can't blame the boy. He's excited. Don't you remember the day we got married and how excited you were? Barely slept a wink you did!"
Mr. Harrison adjusted the buttons on his suit jacket. "Would be nice if we could beat the press or the rain."
"George'll be down soon," Ringo replied. "He's probably changing right now."
Paul sat in the living room with the telephone in his hands. He played with the cord, finally getting a hold of his wife on the other end. He couldn't help himself from smiling every time he heard that lovely West London accent of hers.
"Yes, darling. We'll be on our way shortly," Paul said into the receiver. "Are you and Y/N there already? Alright sounds good. I love you, Gem. See you soon. And tell Y/N I said hi! Alright, love. Drive safe." He hung the phone back up on the cord and stood up from his seat. "That was Gemma. She and Y/N are on their way to the venue now."
Footsteps approached as George walked down the stairs, now clean and refreshed sporting his dark blue suit with the thin white stripes on them. Mrs. Harrison turned to face her son as her eyes welled with tears as she placed her hands over her heart.
"Oh Harold," she said softly. "Look at our son! Look how handsome he is!"
"Our boy's all grown up!" Mr. Harrison replied, grinning from ear to ear at his son. He shook George's hand. "George my boy, you sure do make us proud. First one of the most successful musicians in the world, now getting married. Before you know it he'll be starting a family of his own, Louise."
Mrs. Harrison touched her son's face tenderly and smiled up at him through her tears. "My sweet baby boy's a man now."
"Aww mum," George said, pulling his mother into a hug. He wiped her tears away with his thumbs and smiled that endearing grin of his. "Today's gonna be a lot of fun!"
"I know, I know," Mrs. Harrison said, sniffling as she dabbed the corners of her eyes with her handkerchief. She placed her hands on his shoulders and straightened out the lapels on his jacket. "I'm so proud of you, darling. Promise me you're going to take good care of that girl and that you'll stay by her side no matter what."
George's lips curled into a smile as he drew a cross over his heart. "I promise, mum."
Mrs. Harrison took a deep breath as she wiped the last of her tears away. "Come on, George. Best we head to the venue now."
Tap-tap-tap-tap. The Beatles glanced towards the window as they saw streaks of water running down it like small waterfalls.
"Best bring some umbrellas too then," Paul said, watching the rain run fast. "Come on, let's go!"
The group started trickling into the cars only escaping with a few drops of rain on them. George slid into the seat closest to the window, his heart pounding in his chest as the cars pulled out of the driveway.
This is it. No turning back now. Everything is going to go well today. I'll see you soon, Y/N.
Notes:
There was so many ways this chapter could've played out when I was first writing it which made the story challenging to write.
At first I thought maybe The Beatles could have a bachelor party for George The Night Before and they had a little too much fun and he overslept, or I started the story with the leading lady and Gemma entering the venue with her hair not done yet and The Beatles arrive later and then it starts to rain.
Another idea I had was have someone watching a TV program and angrily flipping through the channels seeing Y/N and George's faces due to how successful they became and how happy they are. That would've set the tone for a much darker story.
There was another instance where I thought about how the story would start during the filming of HELP! And George sees his lovely lady on TV and misses her terribly since she's on tour with her production and he's away in the Bahamas or Austria and he's sad that he can't come see her shows as often as he wants, even though he's proud of
Another idea I had that I scrapped: Have the story play out like the start of the film, HELP!
It definitely took a lot of trial and error and moving things around but then I had the idea of having some nods to the original story and having it start with The Beatles instead of the leading lady (which I'm glad I did since it's hilarious and I was laughing the whole time when I wrote it, especially John's dialogue and how the three of them decide to wake George up.)
Chaotically amusing that's the word that comes to mind whenever I think of The Beatles.
There's still plenty more story left to tell and I look forward to writing more!
Onwards to chapter 2!

Chapter 2: It's Only Love
The crowds of people grew outside of Caxton Hall. Some prepping their cameras and whipping out pads of paper, others holding up umbrellas that sprouted up like daisies popping out of the ground as the rain began to fall much faster.
Children held up photographs and posters of Y/N or The Beatles, praying either one of them would be lucky enough to snag an autograph, a picture or a hug. Some young women in tears or scowling at her face on the tabloids because of the headlines and her becoming Mrs. Harrison.
Y/N fiddled with the silky headscarf atop of her head holding her curls in place, in a fashion similar to Audrey Hepburn. She buttoned up the brass buttons on her navy blue raincoat hoping it was enough to protect her wedding dress.
"Gosh I was so hoping we'd beat the rain," her best friend and now world famous costume designer, Gemma McCartney said, a deep sigh escaped her lips as she too had a raincoat over her wedding attire, a pretty purple maid of honor dress. "I hope Paulie and them made it without any fuss."
"It'll be alright, Gemma," Y/N said, pushing a bobby pin back into place. "Rain on a wedding day means good luck. We're almost at the venue."
"Hopefully it slows down by the time the reception starts," Gemma said. "I'd hate for your dress to get ruined for the pictures. You look so beautiful!"
"All thanks to you, Gem," Y/N said, a twinkle in her eyes as she sat against the car seat. "You always know how to help make me feel extra pretty especially if it's for award shows, galas or special events in general."
Having a best friend who was now a world famous costume designer certainly had its perks, especially since she was the one who made Y/N's wedding dress. Gemma took pride in her work and in her friend and still wanted to see her shine bright. They had become more than friends now.
They were sisters for life.
Y/N rested her hand against the side of her face and gazed at the dewey window in wonder, a relaxed smile crossed over her face as the street lamps flickered like little fireflies amidst the gray skies. "I still can't believe George and I are getting married today. Part of me still thinks I'm dreaming."
"You deserve this, my friend," Gemma said, flashing that brilliant smile of hers. "You found a good guy in George."
"If I could go back in time and tell my younger self that there is someone out there for her, I don't think she would've believed it," Y/N said, her fingers dancing delicately over the glass window panes drawing little shapes and patterns with them. "I'd like to think she'd be proud of the woman she's become, making a name for herself and still going after her dreams."
Gemma eased into the seat across from her and smiled. "I like to think your younger self would find you pretty awesome, Y/N. I know I do."
Y/N smiled broadly as the car pulled up to the front of the hall. Several people turned towards the car, the excitement growing even more so, not caring that their clothes were soaked right through. Y/N could hear the cheers erupting through the sides of the doors, even more so once the car doors opened.
Y/N's parents stepped out and waved at the photographers followed by the rest of the bridal party.
"Hurry up dear!" Y/N's mother called out to her father. "I don't want to be soaked!"
"There she is!" A reporter called out to where Y/N was leaving from. In a flurry of camera flashes, the reporters yelled out a tsunami of questions in an attempt to get Y/N's attention, shouting a flurry of questions or remarks about her:
"Y/N! Y/N! How do you feel about getting married to one of the most successful musicians of all time?"
"Where's the honeymoon happening?"
"How much was the ring?!"
"How's George feeling about this?"
"No! She should be marrying me!"
"Y/N! Y/N! Can you tell us how George proposed to you?
"Who's the designer of your dress?!"
"How excited are you to be Mrs. Harrison?!"
"Are John, Paul and Ringo attending your wedding today?!"
"And here comes Y/N L/N sporting a rather modish style wedding outfit--"
"Gemma! Gemma, is your husband going to be here today?!"
"You shouldn't marry George!" A chorus of young women cried with red eyes and puffy cheeks from crying. "How dare you! You're taking George from us!"
Y/N paid them no mind for she kept her focus on Gemma and not tripping over her skirt.
"Coming through!" Gemma called over the crowds. "C'mon make a hole! Make a hole! Can you people let us through please?! Bridal party coming through!"
Y/N held the sides of the long skirt on her dress as the other bridesmaids attempted to cover her from the rain which was now falling much faster, the wind picking up and nearly carrying reporters away like they were Mary Poppins or getting sucked into a cyclone like The Wizard of Oz.
"Oh gosh Gem I'm so nervous!" Y/N said, trying to keep up with the rest of her crew, the wind playing with the ruffles on her skirt.
"No need to be, mate!" Gemma called. "Just wait until George sees you! Hold your head still, your scarf is falling off it."
The group nearly barreled into the hall and shut the doors behind them as Gemma adjusted Y/N's scarf. A huge sigh of relief escaped her lips.
"Alrighty," Gemma breathed. "Crisis averted. Now we can finish doing your hair and put your veil on, take pictures with you and the family and then--showtime!"
Y/N felt like she was in a dream. Her life had changed so much over the course of a year. Her acting career was taking off at a rapid pace, people were recognizing her and sending her fan mail now and today she was finally marrying the love of her life.
George. Y/N thought to herself. Even the mere thought of his name was more than enough to help her feel a sense of calm. The first perhaps she felt all day long from running around making sure everything was in place.
I can't wait to see him soon.
A dreamy smile plastered itself onto Y/N's face thinking about how they were going to spend the night together. A sense of joy emerged over Y/N like a warm blanket.
She almost forgot to breathe until Gemma pulled her from her whirlwind of a daydream up the fancy staircase.
Y/N looked at the windows as streaks of rain trickled down them like waterfalls hearing the wind whip in a violent fashion.
"Oh gosh. I hope George and the boys made it in time before all this happened," Y/N said, gazing at the small streams of water falling down the windows.
"Hopefully they did," Gemma replied as she took the head scarf off of Y/N's head. "Right now we need to finish getting you ready."
Notes:
Hello my dear readers!
I am back with another chapter!
This was another chapter that took a lot of re-working/writing. I almost thought that I had deleted this chapter because I couldn't remember where I had it but luckily it was in the same document as the first chapter!
Originally I was going to have this chapter be the start of the story, however I wasn't sure if I wanted to start it with our leading lady again like I did in the first story.
I knew off the bat I wanted Gemma to come back as soon as possible because I absolutely loved writing her in the first story and am excited to see how her relationship with the leading lady was going to progress in this story.
I was also trying to find a way to up the stairs and for this instance I thought "wait a minute what if she's almost done getting ready for the wedding but the rain starts coming?!"
It was the simplest thing and seeing a different side of Gemma where she's worried about if Y/N is going to still look okay because of the rain for she cares about her friend and she knows the wedding venue is going to be crawling with reporters and photographers and they want to get the most unflattering picture of Y/N imaginable and she's not going to let that happen/have anyone embarrass her friend on her special day.
A fun fact about Caxton Hall: lots of celebrities got married here, including Ringo Starr and his first wife, Maureen, Mick Jagger and Elizabeth Taylor! (As a side note: no George didn't get married here in real life, however he got married at a registry office in Surrey early in the morning. But for this story I changed it to here to fit with the chaos of celebrity and to show that people can't get enough of The Beatles no matter where or what.)
Lots more coming up. Cute moments again between George and his leading lady are a given as well as more Gemma and Paul.
Thank you for your kind words and support on this story! I appreciate it! Onwards to Chapter 3!
With love,
-Rachel ❤️

Chapter 3: Words of Love You Whisper Soft and True
A sleek looking car pulled up to the hall with the rain pouring buckets and buckets of rain with all four Beatles huddling close together as Brian opened the door greeted by a cacophony of screams and cheers as soon as The Beatles emerged and girls nearly fainting in a frenzy from using all of their breath to overpower the rain.
"C'mon fellas!" Brian called, his pronounced British accent called among the sea of screams. He donned a rather well pressed suit. How it managed to stay clean and as wrinkle free as possible amidst the pouring rain was a mystery. He pulled out a large umbrella in hopes that it was big enough to cover the four boys if they huddled together.
"On the count of four fellas, we jump out of the car all at once" John said, linking arms with Paul with George and Ringo following suit. The four of them looked at each other so they knew when to make a run for it.
"One--" Ringo called out brightly.
"Two--" Paul said confidently as he tightened his grip on his arms.
"Three," George said, mentally preparing himself for what was to come once the four of them left the safety of the car.
"FOUR!" John cried. Without thinking all four of them rushed out the door past Brian who had only gotten the umbrella up and did a double take seeing the four of them sprinting to the door.
"What the---hey! Fellas wait up!" Brian called sprinting after his clients at the speed of light. "Hold that door! Hold that door!"
"George! George! Come back! Please George!" A group of girls sobbed as The Beatles ran past them. "Please Paul marry me! John! John! John! Ringo! Ringo! Please don't leave!" The girls started to push through the police barricades in an attempt to get to their favorite singers.
Suddenly, a young woman managed to get through the barricade and made a b-line for The Beatles.
John's eyes doubled in size seeing a young woman nearly go after George, her face red from crying so much.
"Brian! Help!" George called as Paul, John and Ringo tried shielding him from the young lady who was desperately clutching to George practically begging him not to get married.
"Please George," the girl cried, trying to grab onto his middle. "I love you! Don't leave me! Please George! I've loved you for so long!"
"I don't wanna burst anyone's bubble but I really must be going!" George said in a poor attempt to console the crying girl and trying to shake her off.
"Hurry up Brian!" John called, seeing the crowd of people swarming the door like a hive of bees threatening to sting if anyone tried stealing their honey. Luckily two police officers grabbed the girl and pulled her away, she was still blubbering and nearly passed out in their arms as The Beatles kept passing through the threshold of the hall followed by a loud "OOF!"
Brian quickly shut the door behind them as all four Beatles piles on top of each other reminiscent of the sledding scene from their movie, HELP! The Beatles slowly lifted their heads from the ground and helped each other up and straightened each other's suit jackets.
"Oh--oh thank God," George breathed. "We made it. Where's my mum and dad?"
"I think I saw them go in before the commotion started, George," Ringo said.
"Getting your cardio workout in today aren't you, George!" John quipped. "You're gonna be ripped before you and Y/N tie the knot!" He flexed his muscles and puffed out his chest, he held the air in his cheeks making a rather silly face in an attempt to get George to laugh.
"Come on John," Paul said, fixing his tie. "We still got our duties to do. The wedding's about to start soon." Paul grabbed a white flower from the vase and put it in the lapel of George's jacket. "Do you need anything George?"
"Just Y/N," George said, finally catching his breath.
"Soon," Paul said, smoothing the front of George's jacket. "Soon you'll be together."
George fiddled with the white flower in the lapel of his dark blue suit jacket. He took a deep breath and massaged his hands, his thumb absentmindedly running over his ring finger on his left hand, a habit he had unknowingly picked up during the filming of HELP! It had become so normal for George to do now, people thought he had underlying issues with his hands.
Y/N. An affectionate smile crept onto George's handsome face. Soon my darling. We're walking out together as husband and wife.
George stared out the window as he continued to touch his ring finger. He remembered how cold it was filming in Austria. Beautiful, but isolated. Each of the Beatles had their separate rooms. It was a nice reprieve from the fans, yet George felt empty without Y/N being there to take this all in with him.
The nights he'd lie awake at night in his hotel room at the Hotel Edelweiss thinking about Y/N and how he couldn't wait to kiss those soft lips of hers again or surprise her at one of her shows when she was least expecting it and seeing the joy light up in her eyes. It was never easy spending long stretches of time apart from each other whether it was on the road with The Beatles or movie productions.
Today was different. Today was all about him and Y/N and he was going to savor every moment of it and nothing was going to stop him, not even the press and their ridiculous questions.
"Don't forget to breathe, George," Ringo said in a reassuring manner. "You and Y/N have waited a long time for this."
"I got tissues on hand in case you start crying during the ceremony," John said, pulling out a couple from the box and pretending to wipe his eyes.
George shook his head, trying to hold back his laughter. Despite the crazy start to the day, it was nice having his bandmates there with him to take his mind off of the rollercoaster of a day they all had in trying to get to the venue.
George reached into one of his pockets but nearly froze with fear, his face turning as white as a sheet when he couldn't feel the velvet box he had earlier.
Please tell me I didn't forget the wedding rings. Please tell me I didn't forget the wedding rings!
"Where's the rings?!" George said under his breath. He performed a frisk search on himself and turned his pants pockets inside out. "No-- no-- no--please don't tell me I forgot the wedding rings-- oh no---no please no--Oh my God if I forgot the damn rings---"
"Looking for these?" Ringo said, holding up the small, velvet box with two silver rings in them. George breathed a deep sigh of relief and placed his hand over his heart, his heart pounding in his chest.
"Oh thank God---Thank God!" He breathed. "You're a lifesaver, Ringo. Where were they?"
"You gave them to me before we left your house, George," Ringo said "I remember you saying 'Hold on to these, for me Ringo.
George shook his head and covered his face with one of his hands. "Oh yeah that's right. I did say that. Sorry, Ringo. Me brain is a bit boggled at the moment."
"It's alright, George," Ringo replied.
George took another deep breath as he took a seat. His leg started bouncing up and down. "I just want everything to go well today."
"And it will," Ringo said, placing a hand on his friend's shoulder. "You and Y/N love each other dearly. I can guarantee you George when you see Y/N walk down that aisle, your heart is going to be filled with so much joy. You're going to forget about the crazy day you've had. You're one step closer to tying the knot."
"Sorry to interrupt your conversation fellas, but George, do you want me to see if you can talk to Y/N before the wedding starts?" Paul said, placing the rings in his pocket.
George nodded his head slowly. "I just need to know that she's here and she's alright."
Paul nodded his head quickly and gave his bandmate a friendly pat on the shoulder. " I'm going to check to see if Y/N is here now."
"You're gonna be alright, George," Ringo said, patting his friend's shoulder. "You and Y/N are going to be alright."
***
Paul made his way up the fancy staircase and knocked on the door to where the bridal party was. Gemma poked her head out and grinned with joy seeing her husband standing in the doorway.
"Gemma," Paul said, a relieved smile touched his face as he kissed his wife. "Boy am I glad to see you."
"I'm glad to see you too, Paulie," Gemma replied, before stealing another quick kiss from her husband. "What took you boys so long?"
"We ran into some traffic and fans," Paul said. "Is Y/N nearly ready?"
Gemma beamed with delight. "Just about. Her hair is almost done. We have to put the veil on her head and then she's good to go. How's George feeling about all this?"
"A bit frazzled but he's going to be fine," Paul replied, looking over his shoulder hoping no one followed him up the stairs. "I think he's being too hard on himself. I don't think I've ever seen him get like that before."
"Wedding day jitters," Gemma replied. "It's a normal thing. I remember before our wedding how nervous you were."
Paul straightened his suit jacket and rolled his shoulders back. "I've got a favor to ask of you, Gem. Would it be alright if Y/N spoke to George to help settle his nerves?"
Gemma bit her lip in hesitation. "I want to say yes, however George can't see what she looks like yet, Paulie. Not until the ceremony at least."
Paul bit the inside of his cheek. "Right. I forgot about that. Is there a way we can get them together without them seeing each other's looks?"
Gemma tapped her finger against her lip. She snapped her fingers together like a light bulb went off over her head. "There's a corner of the staircase that's hidden away. They can talk there. There's also a piece of wall there so they don't see each other."
"You're a bloody genius, Gem," Paul said, giving her a kiss on her cheek. "That's perfect."
"You go on and get George, Paul. I'll get Y/N and have her meet him there. Quickly though! We don't have much time!"
Paul nodded his head quickly and smiled before taking off down the stairs to retrieve George. "I love you!" He called his voice echoing off the stairwell causing Gemma to laugh.
***
"Hello, thank you for coming. Hello thank you for coming," John and Ringo said as the wedding guests started trickling in, shaking hands with every person who came in.
"Hey! Nice suit you got there!" John said to an older gentleman who was wearing the same outfit as he was.
"It's nearly showtime," Brian said, adjusting the front of his suit jacket. "Are you boys ready?"
"As ready as we'll ever be, Brian," Ringo said, standing upright like he was a security guard.
Paul jogged down the stairs in an almost weightless fashion. His feet barely touched the steps making it look like he was gliding across them.
"George, can you come with me for a second?" Paul said, waggling his finger.
"What? Now? The ceremony is about to start," George said, raising an eyebrow at his bandmate.
"You wanted to talk to Y/N right?" Paul said softly. "Now's your chance to do so."
"Alright," George said, standing up and brushing the back off his pants. "Where is she?"
"She's down here, however you can't see her yet," Paul said.
"What?! How--"
"George," Paul said, as he put his hands up. "Listen to me. You can still talk to her. She's behind the wall. You can't turn around to see her yet."
"Paul, what are you doing?" Brian said.
"Brian, two minutes that's all George needs," Paul said, holding up two fingers. "Please Brian. George needs this."
Brian glanced at his watch and at the clock on the wall. "Alright. Two minutes but we must make it quick."
Paul motioned with his head for George to follow him as the clamor of guests grew louder.
***
George and Paul made their way to the corridor, the sounds of people laughing and chatting growing to a faint din in the distance.
"Wait here, George," Paul said. George stood on the side of the wall closest to the stairs as Paul disappeared around the corner. "He's here, Y/N."
Y/N stood on the other side of the wall dressed in her wedding attire keeping her back to the wall so she wouldn't accidentally see George. "George, I'll come get you when it's time." Paul gave both of them a quick nod and headed back upstairs leaving George and Y/N alone.
"Y/N?" George said, keeping his back to the wall.
"Hello Georgie," Y/N said from the other side, smiling to herself.
A sigh of relief escaped George's lips as he smiled. "Gosh I'm--I'm so happy to hear your voice!"
"It's good to hear yours too," Y/N said, resting gently against the frame. "It's nice hearing only your voice instead of thousands shouting things at you."
George chuckled to himself. "It sure is." He fumbled with his hands and took a deep breath. "How are you feeling about today?"
"Excited," Y/N said, still keeping her position on the frame. "But I'm a little nervous too."
George touched the ring finger on his left hand and massaged it. "I have to tell you something, Y/N. I'm nervous too."
Y/N kept her back against the wall feeling a sense of relief escaped her knowing George felt the same way she did. She put her hand over her heart. How she badly wanted to turn around and hold him and kiss him and tell him things will be alright but she didn't want to spoil how she looked for him.
"I don't know if nervous is the right word," George said, looking up at the ceiling. "I'm excited but I'm also scared This---this is a new chapter we're entering into together--I know our names are in the spotlight a lot recently and I just---I just don't want anything bad happening to you or me--especially you." Tears started welling in George's eyes. "I'm---I'm so grateful for you, Y/N." He sniffed his tears back. "I am grateful for the sense of comfort you bring me, how happy you make me and how lucky I am to have you part of my life. Your strength to keep going inspires me daily."
Y/N could feel tears welling in her own eyes as she smiled at George's sweet words.
"Oh George," she replied softly. "If only I could kiss you right now."
George chuckled through his tears. "Believe me, I'm using every fiber of my being to not turn around and kiss you and hold you right now. It's hard."
Y/N laughed and sniffed her tears back as she reached her hand out to the edge of the wall. "We'll see each other shortly."
"Y/N?" George said, his own hand inches away from where Y/N's hand was. "If it's not too much trouble, I want to take a moment with you before we go back upstairs." His pinky finger brushed the side of her hand gently.
"No darling. It isn't any trouble at all," Y/N said. She took a hold of his hand, their hands interlacing with each other like they did before going out on set for A Hard Day's Night for the scene they shared together. Their grip didn't ease up as George squeezed her hand gently.
"Y/N, I want to thank you for coming into my life the way you did," George said softly. "I am truly grateful for this day and that we finally get to be married. I will love you and care for you. I will not let you fall and I will help you cross any obstacle."
Y/N returned the squeeze and felt more tears welling in her eyes. She took a deep breath as she ran her thumb over George's hand.
"George Harrison," she began. "I am grateful for you and helping to make my life better."
George closed his eyes, drinking in the words Y/N was telling him and trying not to cry again. Y/N's voice started wavering as tears fell down her face. "I am grateful for you bringing smiles to my face. The joy you give my heart and I am grateful to finally become your wife. I will love you and care for you through thick and thin. I will be your best friend. I will lift you up and not let you fall."
George blinked his eyes rapidly and wiped the tears from his face. "I love you, Y/N."
"I love you too, George," Y/N sniffed, squeezing his hand a little tighter. The two closed their eyes together and could feel their heartbeats almost lineup in sync with each other. No one captured this moment for the whole world to see. It was a private and special moment, just exactly what the two of them needed to calm their racing thoughts.
They both took a deep breath and bowed their heads, their grip becoming stronger as they let the silence wash over them and allowed them to feel the other's presence. Instinctively, they both raised their free hand and placed it against their hearts, soon feeling a sense of warmth emulate through the room like it was a calming presence as if in a way to say "I'm here."
Footsteps approached down the stairs as Y/N and George opened their eyes at the same time feeling a sense of ease. They let go of their hands and smiled to themselves feeling more excited about their matrimony. Paul smiled to himself as he tapped George on the shoulder gently.
"George, it's time."
Notes:
I loved writing this chapter so much!! The Duality of this chapter first being comical with The Beatles making a mad dash for the front of the building and then a sweet and tender moment between George and Y/N before they go upstairs to get married oh I had so much fun writing this one!
For the scene when The Beatles are fighting their way to the front of Caxton Hall, I pictured this song from their film HELP! Playing: it's called In The Tyrol (it plays when they're dressed up as the marching band in Austria) but the part I'm specifically thinking of is from 0:36 onwards as it adds to the comical chaos of that part. You can listen here: https://youtu.be/tSxW5uCj-RY?si=9GArtdeBlqy0JYVT
Originally I thought this song was going to work best especially when The Beatles pile on top of each other like they did when they went sledding: https://youtu.be/2WieiTtK9DM?si=NxKEFRghc0eYYxSe it starts around the 1:35 mark.
The scene where George and Y/N have a private moment before they get married I was inspired by this photograph I saw of a Marine and his bride standing with their backs against the wall taking a moment to pray before they became husband and wife. It's a sweet story. His name is Caleb Earwood and you can read the story about the photograph here: https://www.theknot.com/content/marines-wedding-photo-with-bride-goes-viral
In this instance instead of having a photographer capture the moment between George and his bride to be, I thought it would be much more powerful for them to not have any witnesses as they're both high on emotions right now and a little stressed out and them being there for each other even though they can't see each other yet is what helps them find balance again.
I almost started crying myself when I wrote it because I could imagine it so vividly. 😭
Next chapter: the moment we've all been waiting for!
Thanks again for all the love and support of this story!
❤️-Rachel
