This is a side project that I will be working on aside from my main AU, so the story might be inconsistant.

Chapter 1: MISTAKE

Chapter Text

The world isn't how it used to be. Dull and full of grains of sand; mixed with ash and dust. It's permanently void of any form of life. Among all of the wreckage of the new world, footsteps can be heard from a far.

A beaten-up orange cat can be seen walking to a makeshift shelter, made of welded scrap metal and plastic sheets. The feline was wearing a self-made leather jacket, which was missing the sleeves; underneath was a dirty, ragged white shirt, covered in debris. Behind them, a large mechanical hand can be spotted dominating over their body. Exposed wiring from the wrist of the metallic hand wraps around the frame of the arm, then connecting into the flesh of the large wound of the severed tail.

The feline presses a button, located just outside of the big, rusty metal door of the makeshift shelter. The door creates a loud scraping noise, harming the ears of the cat. It soon stopped, exposing the insides of an engineer workshop. The feline stepped inside, setting down their rucksack, filled with electrical parts. She grabs an old office chair and drop down onto it, sighing loudly in relief.

"Finally... I can rest..." The cat spoke out loud to herself. She leans back on the chair, getting herself comfy before looking at the forged marksman rifle that is on the table next to her. Even with all of the progress that she's done on it, it is still not finished.

The cat then sighs and gets up from the chair. She knew if she procrastinated longer, she would never get this firearm to work. The feline grabs the firearm and starts to work on it. Piece by piece, it slowly gets put together. Many hiccups and misplacements happen during the time. She then suddenly catches her paw and rips off a few layers of skin, causing her to draw blood. The feline yelps in pain due to this. She holds her paw tightly as she starts to search the place for any medical items.

Suddenly, a box falls from a shelf that the feline bumped into. Items scatter everywhere on the floor, revealing everything that was inside; syringes filled with medical liquids and blood, bandages for specific wounds, and a large medical box. The eyes of the orange cat widen in relief as a smile suddenly appears on the face of the feline. She hastily picks up the box and walks back to the workshop table, clearing some space on it before laying down the medical box. When she opens the box, she notices that a lot of supplies have gone missing. She shrugs it off by thinking that she possibly used it in the past, due to a possible attack from an infected. But... there hasn't been any attacks of recent. The most recent attack was weeks ago. She shrugged the thought off again and started to apply the available supplied on her fresh injury.

She then looks over at a stained coffee mug. Memories flood her head of the time before the war. A smile once again cracks on her face.

"I promise that I'll find you, sweetheart..."The cat muttered to herself quietly, moving the coffee mug across the table.

She misses her wife. All of the jokes they made, all of the places they've been to, everything. Memories continue to flood her mind, causing the orange feline to smile wider. Her big grin then fades away as she realises that she lost it all. She failed to protect her only lover. And now she's gone.

It's all of her fault.

The cat started to get corrupted by rage, grabbing the mug and throwing it against a wall, causing it to shatter into a thousand pieces. The felines heart immediately sunk, realising that she has broken the only object that her wife had given her. The guilt that washed over her starts to overwhelm the feline, quickening the pace of her breathing until she starts to hyperventilate.

Her memory of the cute blue dog that she was so proud of being with, all gone. Her only piece of connection with her long lost wife. It's all gone.

"No.. no no no, what have I done...?" The orange feline asks herself, tearing up due to the broken mug.

Catfeine gathers all of the pieces together and places it on the table. Tears roll down her eyes as she looks down at the mistake she has caused. Her heart shattered into pieces as she looked down at her mistake. Her mind slowly swirling into pure guilt as she looked down at her mistake. All she could ask herself was...

Why did she do that?

Then, an ear piercing thud was heard outside, which scared the orange feline out of her fur. She felt her heart skip multiple beats, causing her to lose balance on her feet. Thankfully, she held onto the workbench, supporting her unsteady legs.

Catfeine looks at the large sheet that she classes as a door and approaches it. She looks up at the door, and then to the right of it, which she finds two buttons. The feline approaches the buttons and inspects it. One red button, one green button. She presses the green button, which causes a loud scraping noise to start echoing around the room.

Catfeine covers her ears as she notices the door slowly opening. The light of the sun slowly engulfing the room. The dust from the outside world slowly making its way inside. When the door is open, Catfeine uncovers her ears and peaks outside.
