Be My Shelter From The Harsh Wind, Without and Within

Summary:

Izuku had spent so much time on his plan to escape the alpha's apartment, that the next step hadn't occurred to him. His friends had all distanced themselves once Inasa had intimidated them into leaving Izuku alone.

Once he'd managed to get as far from that apartment as he could, Izuku tried to think of the best place to go from there. He needed somewhere the alpha wouldn't know about. Taking out the nearly dead phone, he desperately scrolled through his contact list before settling on a single name.

'Kacchan.'

Believing he found a safe place in Kacchan's home, Izuku tries to get his life back together and prepare for the arrival of his child. But Katsuki's wife, Ochako, has her own plans for the pregnant omega. Or at least for the pup he's carrying.

Notes:

This story is inspired by this Free Use Idea from BopBopBobbies on Twitter. I started a Twitter thread last January where Bop's idea left off, so once I decided to move it over to AO3, I wanted to give it a new first chapter that could flow into what I already had written. Many thanks to BopBopBobbies for an inspiring idea that still stuck with me after all this time!

Chapter Text

“You got Katsuki,” he said gruffly as he answered his cell, his long shift finally over as he finished changing back into his civilian clothes.  He stopped adjusting his collar as the sound of tearful crying filled his ear.

“Kacchan?” a familiar voice asked while trying to keep from sobbing.  “I–I need help and I don’t know where to go!  You’re the only one I thought would answer if I called, I don’t know what to do!”

The fear in his old friend’s voice pushed Katsuki to action, slamming the locker shut as he rushed out to his car.  “Deku?  I need to know where you are right now so I can get to you.  We’ll figure out the rest once I’m there, okay?”

He listened carefully as Izuku described his surroundings, realizing where to find him and took the fastest route to meet him.  He kept Izuku talking as he got closer, wondering why the omega felt he’d be the only one to answer his call.

“It’s been a while since I’ve heard from ya, what have you been up to, nerd?  How's Auntie Inko doing?”  If anything, Izuku could have gone to his mother, the woman adored her son.  But the hesitation over the phone made him question that as Izuku stuttered out “I guess she’s fine, we haven’t… talked lately.”

Another red flag hoisted as he tried to make sense of the situation so far.

“Okay, I think I see you!” Katsuki said as he pulled over, the streetlight illuminating the heavy rain falling down on a drenched and huddled Izuku.  As Katsuki rushed to him, he took in his appearance.  His hair was soggy and flat against his head, partially obscuring his eyes as he hugged his arms around his stomach.

The headlights of Katsuki’s car made the slight swell of Izuku’s stomach against the soaked shirt obvious, and as he reached him, Izuku shook the wet strands of hair from his eyes to meet Katsuki’s.  “C’mon, get in the car, I should have some spare blankets in the trunk.”

Fearful green eyes started to turn hopeful as Izuku nodded and took a step toward the car, groaning slightly as he continued, limping.  Katsuki grabbed him by the elbow to stop him, noticing the cuts and bruises that covered Izuku’s bare feet.  Without hesitation, he picked Izuku up and carried him to the car, gently settling him in the seat before he retrieved the towels and blankets.

“Here, this’ll keep you from freezing before we get home,” Katsuki assured as he tucked the blankets around Izuku until he was barely visible.  “I’ll take a look at your feet, they’re beat up to hell, so don’t try to get out when we get there.”

“Kacchan, please, you don’t have to do this much, if I can just have some time to figure out what… I should… do next…” Izuku said, his words drifting off as the warmth around him deepened his exhaustion.

Back behind the wheel and turning the car around, Katsuki glanced over to see Izuku fall asleep, his panicked expression relaxing into one of calmness.  In the car, Izuku’s familiar scent now lingered, softly sweetened with a milky note, confirming at least one of Katsuki’s suspicions for what was going on.  Izuku was pregnant.

“You’ll stay as long as you need to, Deku.  Whatever trouble you’re in, I’ll help you through it.  Plus Ultra swear.”

If Izuku had been awake, he would have known the phrase and smiled, reminiscing like Katsuki was over their childhood days when all they did was watch every All Might cartoon ever made and swear to become heroes that save people together.  And it wasn’t a serious swear if it wasn’t a “Plus Ultra” swear!

When Katsuki pulled up in his driveway at last, he wondered if Izuku still remembered those promises.  He himself had ended up at the Academy, becoming an officer that could catch bad guys and keep the people in his city safe.  Izuku had been accepted to UA University on a scholarship to major in Social Sciences and Psychology.

If he’d gone on to help people with his studies, Katsuki didn’t know.  But as he took all but the closest towels and blankets off of Izuku before lifting him up again, Katsuki made it a point to ask once the poor guy was settled in.

“Did you get any of my messages, Katsuki?” was the first thing he heard as he entered the house.  His wife, Ochaco, stood by their dining table, now bewildered as her husband trotted past her with a bundled up person in his arms.  Whoever it was looked homeless, their feet bloodied and covered in dirt and mud.  Disgusting.

“What is this?!  I tell you to bring home take out and end up bringing home a stray?!  And an omega at that!”

“Not now,” is all Katsuki said as he disappeared down the hall and entered their guest room and shut the door.  He laid a still sleeping Izuku on the bed then started running a bath in the en suite bathroom.

He’d just gathered his first aid kit on the counter when he heard a whine from the bedroom.  Izuku had curled himself up, looking wary of the unfamiliar surroundings until he saw Katsuki and let himself relax.

“Hey, I have a bath running for you, but first I should take a look at your feet.  Wanna make sure you don’t have glass or shit like that stuck in your skin.  Up we go,” Katsuki said as he scooped Izuku off the bed and set him down on the counter beside his supplies.

“Thank you, Kacchan,” Izuku said as Katsuki carefully cleaned and disinfected the wounds on his feet.  Sure there wasn’t any debris left that would hurt him, Katsuki helped Izuku over to the bath and settled him in.

After retrieving some of his old clothes from the closet for him to wear, he let Izuku have some privacy and left the room with a sigh as he went to face his wife.

“You have a lot of nerve, Katsuki Bakugou!” Ochaco started, her voice shrill as she stomped over to her husband.  “I’m home all day taking care of the house and you show up with no dinner and some strange omega in your arms?  What are you trying to do, replace me?”

Katsuki took another deep breath and looked around the room.  Everything looked the same as when he had left for his patrol that morning.  Whatever it was she was taking care of, it wasn’t the house.  “Will you be quiet?  He’ll hear you and right now he doesn’t need any more stress.”

“Oh, he doesn’t need more stress, but I just have to deal with this, this invasion of my territory!  This is my space too, you can’t just let another omega in here to–”

“Izuku isn’t going anywhere, you got that?!” Katsuki answered back with a low growl, settling the omega’s tirade down.  “I’ve known him since we were just pups, we grew up together!  He may as well be family to me, and I’ll be damned if I let him down when he asked me for help!”

Ochako glared at Katsuki, “And just how long are we expecting to house your stray friend?  Doesn’t he have anyone else to take him in?”

“I’m not sure, he hasn’t told me what happened yet.  But he’s been through something terrible, that much is obvious.  And he’s pregnant, so any support he needs, for as long as he needs, he’ll get.  End of story.”

Katsuki went over to the laundry room beside the kitchen and pulled out some spare towels, intent to bring them to Izuku.  To his surprise, Ochako stopped him, her anger gone completely.  Smiling to him, she offered sweetly, “Oh, the poor dear.  Here, I’ll take these to him.  I should get to know him since he’ll be our guest,” and took the towels out of his hands.

Chapter Text

It wasn't until Katsuki mentioned the omega occupying their guest bathroom was pregnant that Ochako had a revelation. Despite how she hated another omega invading her home, she realized that this is exactly what their marriage needed!

Despite Katsuki's assurance that her infertility wasn't a concern as long as she was happy, Ochako knew her husband wanted to be a sire. And if she feigned caring for the stray pupped omega that Katsuki took off the streets, then their family could finally be complete!

Well, at least once the stray gave birth and gave it over to her to nurture as a mother. Honestly, did he really think he'd be able to give the pup growing in his belly the proper care when he couldn't even manage to keep shoes on his feet? Pathetic.

She managed to reign her disgust in as she approached the guest bathroom, arms full of their softest towels.  Her brown eyes settled on the gentle swell of Izuku's stomach as she smiled as sweetly as she could before offering him a towel and welcoming him to their home.

Several months passed as Izuku settled into Katsuki's spare room. With the help of Ochako and Shouto, he'd managed to build a safe, secure nest. He couldn't help but feel tense around Katsuki's wife, especially when she lingered around him longer than necessary.

When she did so, Izuku would be reminded of his former alpha, the sire of his pup. He'd do much of the same, leering over him until no one would dare get close to Izuku for fear of Inasa's wrath.

Back then, the first few times he'd addressed the issue, Inasa had sweet talked his way out of the problem.

"Well, you're just too cute, how could I just let everyone in the coffee shop keep staring at you?" when Inasa had made a scene while getting drinks before going to their classes at UA University.

It happened again when Inasa pinned him against the side of the train, uncomfortably close as he whispered, "Just keep close to me and don’t move. As soon as we got on, all their eyes fell on you."

“You’re going to see those friends of yours again?  I don’t think they like me. Why would you hang out with people who dislike someone you love?”  Which of course led to Izuku seeing less and less of his friends, eventually losing contact with all but a couple who managed to stay in touch despite Inasa’s vague intimidation.

The alpha’s possessive behavior grew worse after graduation.  Every job Izuku applied to that focused on his college major was rejected, with Inasa always right there to comfort him and whisper in his ear.  “It’ll be okay, Izuku.  Besides, wouldn’t it be better if I provided for you?  I’d feel more comfortable as your alpha if you gave me the chance to show you I can take care of you, baby.”

Before Izuku knew it, he was kept a prisoner in the apartment he and Inasa shared. Claiming it was for his own safety, locks were installed that could only be unlocked by the alpha's biometric readings.  His only chances to leave were when Inasa accompanied him.

Panic really set in once Izuku realized his heat would be starting soon.

He'd managed his previous heats on his own in the safety of his home nest. Asking to go back there for the week had ended with Izuku being grabbed by his collar and thrown against the nearest wall, Inasa offended that Izuku would want to spend his heat away from him.

So he stayed. The nest he'd made in Inasa's apartment was a shallow comparison to the one that comforted him through previous heats. It was a dismal blessing that with his heat haze, Izuku wasn't aware of the alpha's brutality as he constantly took advantage of him.

Izuku had never heat shared before, feeling comfortable with heat aids and his familiarly scented nest to get him through the week. Once his latest heat had eased off, Izuku could only vaguely remember hot tears running down his chilled cheeks.

The bruises and bite marks he found littered across his skin once he'd managed to walk to the bathroom to shower had left him crouching under the hottest spray he could manage, wondering if this is what he'd wanted.

Months later, as he rushed to the toilet to empty his stomach of another meal, Izuku feared for the worst. His next heat hadn't come, though with his alpha's growing possessiveness and abuse, it wasn't surprising that the stress would affect his natural heat cycle.

Once he saw the results of the test he'd managed to buy while Inasa wasn't looking, Izuku cried again in the shower. If his alpha was this harsh on him now, it would only get worse once he knew Izuku was carrying his pup.

For the sake of his pup, he had to get as far from the sire as he could. It took a lot of planning, but Izuku had gotten used to figuring out ways to make his surroundings work to his advantage, since that was usually all he was left with.

He'd been careful to mask his scent around Inasa to avoid making him aware he was pregnant. After living with him for so long, it wasn't difficult to overwhelm Inasa's nose with flowers and neutralizers around the apartment.

The next step had been to get the alpha's fingerprint to pass the biometric lock.  It only took convincing Inasa to have a drink or two during dinner, the cocktail glass littered with prints by the time he'd shuffled off to bed and left Izuku to clean up the mess.

Izuku decided to leave on his birthday. The alpha was more inclined to cater to his whims then and would likely have his guard down. He graciously smiled as he was presented with a matcha tea cake, though the mere thought of the scent had him fighting his nausea once more.

He'd asked for a quiet night in to celebrate, making drinks for the two, ensuring that his were left virgin while he made Inasa's far too strong. All he needed was to wait until the excessive drinking knocked the alpha out, so he waited patiently until Inasa started to nod off from his place on the couch.

Wasting no time, Izuku retrieved the bags he'd packed ahead of time and left them by the door. He checked again to make sure Inasa was out before he pulled out the lifted fingerprint and set it against his own finger before pressing it to the scanner.

The green light and accompanying sound of the lock moving brought a smile to Izuku's face as he turned to slip on his shoes, only to be met with the searing hot eyes of the alpha.

"Where 'dya think yer going, omega," Inasa said sloppily as he grabbed a handful of Izuku's hair and tugged him harshly closer. "Like I'd ever let you leave me!" The alpha pushed Izuku hard against the wall next to the unlocked door.

He hadn't even managed to put his shoes or jacket on before Inasa caught him, and he was also between Izuku and the bags he'd so carefully packed for himself. The door was the priority, if he failed to get out now, then he knew he'd never get another chance.

"I'm done living in your cage!" Izuku yelled as he used all his strength to push Inasa away from him, grateful that the drinks had made him unsteady on his feet. Leaving everything else behind, Izuku slipped out the door and closed it before running to the exit.

Izuku spent so much time on his plan to escape the alpha's apartment that the next step hadn't occurred to him.

'Kacchan.'

Chapter Text

Realizing it had been a while, Izuku took the opportunity to call his friend from university, Shouto.  He hadn’t been so easily run off by Inasa’s behavior, daring the alpha to challenge him whenever Shouto came around.  Izuku would have considered going to him for help escaping, but it would have been one of the first places Inasa would look for him.

“Hey ‘Zuku, good to hear from you,” Shouto answered calmly, though Izuku could tell the beta was relieved just by his voice.  “It’s been a while since you got settled into Bakugou’s place, wanna catch up?”

“Yeah, that’d be great, actually,” Izuku said as his hand gently caressed his baby bump.  “There’s a lot to talk about, and I could use the company if you don’t mind.”  Shouto was one of his closest friends, he could trust him with the truth about what he’d been through over the last few months.

“Deku?” a voice called out from the doorway of the guest room.  Izuku clutched his phone to his chest as he turned to see Katsuki watching him with concern.  His attention focused on crimson eyes, Izuku muttered a quick “I’ll text you tomorrow,” before hanging up and dropping the hand holding the phone to his side.

“H-Hey Kacchan,” he said, avoiding the crimson eyes that watched him so carefully.  “I appreciate your kindness, I won’t impose on you for long, I swear.  There’s just… I have a lot of-”

Before he could stumble through the rest of his excuses, Katsuki closed the gap between them, letting out soothing pheromones that were familiar to Izuku.  Katsuki reached for Izuku’s arm slowly, showing his intention to scent him while keeping his bare wrist from touching until the omega nodded his permission.

The contact settled Izuku further, reminded of a time long ago when he and Katsuki would pup scent each other as they played.  Those were the moments when Izuku felt safest, and that sense of security felt every bit as strong now, the blonde patting his thin arm before stepping back to give Izuku space.

“You’re not imposing on us or a burden in any way, so get that straight, okay Deku?  If anything, we should have stayed in touch more than we did.  Maybe if we were still around each other as much as when we were brats, things could have been different.”

“There’s no need to think about ‘what ifs’ at this point, Kacchan,” Izuku said, his voice steady.  “I’m not sure how I could repay you for taking me in, if there’s anything I can do while I’m here, please let me be of some use.”

Katsuki smirked at the omega, “Who do you think you are here, Cinderella?  You going to dance around the house and do chores with cutesy little animals following you around like a Disney Princess?”  The joke earned him one of the first genuine smiles he’d seen on Izuku’s face in years.

“Of course not, Kacchan, but I should contribute something while I’m staying at your house.”  The blonde got an idea as he looked over to his office door.

“Are you still as obsessed with psychology as you were when we were in school?  I could use that big brain of yours to analyze some of our more elusive criminals so I can catch them and keep them behind bars.  Nothing risky, just reading through files to find anything important and building a psych profile.  You could do it in your pajamas, even.”

Interest stirred in Izuku’s expression, jade eyes bright as he frantically nodded his head to agree.  “I’d be happy to be of help to you with your job! It’s been a while since I’ve been able to make use of my college major.”

Katsuki read between the lines on what that meant.  He was told about the poor excuse for a “traditional” alpha, Inasa, when Izuku first arrived and had calmed down enough to talk.  Since then, any time a conversation started to veer toward the man, Izuku would nervously change the subject.

From what he learned through his work channels, Inasa was a piece of work.  Numerous charges from when he was a teenager on up to recent years.  Mostly fights, destruction of property, drunk and disorderly, but the ones that really had Katsuki pissed were the charges involving omega abuse.  The jerk didn’t mind using brute force, and somehow was never found guilty for any of his crimes against omegas.

Of course as soon as he mentioned taking Inasa into custody, Izuku panicked and begged Katsuki not to do so.

“I can’t give him any chance to find me, Kacchan,” Izuku had said.  “If he finds out about the pup, he’ll never let us go!  I won’t let my child know the fear I lived through with his sire.  Please don’t do anything that could let him find me, please!”

As much as Katsuki would love to catch the prick and make him pay for all he’d done to Izuku, he wouldn’t dare go against the omega’s wishes.  All he could do was ensure that he was protected and given a chance to get back to being the Deku he remembered; cheerful and brilliant.

“Have you thought about reaching out to your mom yet?” Katsuki asked to change the subject before he lingered too long on that dirtbag alpha.  “I could take you to see her whenever you feel up to it.”

“I’m not sure if it’s a good idea.  She really liked him as a mate for me, I’m worried she’d be angry or ashamed of me over all that happened.  Or force me to go back to him once she finds out about my little green bean here,” Izuku said as he protectively set his hands over his stomach.

Katsuki shook his head to disagree, “Are you kidding?  The Auntie Inko I remember would have smashed that bald bag of wind’s face into the closest wall if she knew he made you cry.  I may have to detain her in cuffs just to make sure the bastard lived long enough to go to prison.”

“You have a point, but I don’t know, I normally get excited at the thought of visiting her, but right now, I just have a feeling of dread,” Izuku said as he twisted the hem of his shirt around his fingers nervously.

Resting a hand on the omega’s shoulder, Katsuki nodded, “Okay, well if you ever feel ready to go, I’ll be glad to take you.”

“Going where?” Ochako asked as she entered the room unannounced, carrying a gift bag.  “Are we planning a trip?  Doctor appointment?  Is it time for the ultrasound yet?”  Ochako gushed as she crowded up to the two men.

“Uh, we were thinking of visiting my mother, but I’m not feeling so well, maybe another time,” Izuku answered, noticing the other omega’s focus never strayed too far from his baby bump.  “I think I’ll take a short nap, let me know when you want the analysis on those cases done, Kacchan.  I’ll look forward to it!”

Katsuki offered a short ‘okay’ before leaving his room, though Ochako lingered and held out the gift bag.  “I’ve been reading up on nutritional needs for the baby and there’s a lot you won’t get through regular food.  I picked out these prenatal vitamins and herbal teas to make sure our little spark stays healthy!”

Carefully taking the bag, Izuku bowed and offered his thanks before turning to the bed, hinting to Ochaco that it was time to leave.  Once she did, he dropped the bag onto the side table and got under the covers and rolled onto his side, bringing his knees up as he rubbed a hand over his growing stomach.

He lingered on what Ochako had said before she left him alone, her words far more joyful than the way her eyes appeared when she bothered to look at him instead of his belly.

“She called you ‘our little spark’, but you’re my little green bean.”

Chapter Text

“You’ve got to keep an eye on her, Izuku,” Shouto said as he took a sip of tea once it arrived at their table.  They’d met at a cafe to catch up, with Izuku ordering an herbal concoction that was listed in Ochako’s approved “healthy baby diet,” though it looked like something meant to be served as a joke on Halloween.

As the two looked from the frothy swamp-green liquid to each other, Shouto immediately flagged down the waitress and requested Izuku’s usual iced coffee order be made with decaf.  The relief on the omega’s face when the offending beverage was taken away brought a slight smile to Shouto’s face.

“Like I was saying, you should be cautious around Ochako.  I got to know both of them since my father does business with Katsuki’s parents.  We were both dragged to numerous business and social events, so Katsuki and I eventually became friends.  Though he likes to act as if he only tolerates me.”

“I was there when Katsuki met Ochako, and was eventually invited to their wedding.  From the time they got together, he started changing, and I believe it was because of her.  While they were dating, she demanded all of his free time.  Once they were married, she became more controlling over his life and he just let her.”

Izuku’s heart sank, hearing what Shouto had to say.  He wanted to believe that Katsuki had found someone that loved him, but from the picture Shouto was painting, it sounded like Ochako was similar to Inasa and his controlling nature.

“When you told me that you’d called Katsuki for help, and that he dropped everything to do so, I was shocked.  It was the first time in a long while that Katsuki acted on his own without her involvement.  He did something for himself, and I’m glad that out of anyone, that it was you he chose to do that for.”

Nodding as a blush overtook his face, Izuku sipped on his drink and dwelled on the conversation.  “You know that night he found me, I could hear them talking, whispering, when I was in the next room.  She wasn’t happy at all that he chose to let me stay without her permission.”

“See?  And now that you’re there, she’s trying to do the same with you.  All this diet stuff, the baby vitamins?  She’s overstepping a lot, so don’t let her get too close.  And if she tries to make you drink one of those god awful ‘health potions’ again, I’m pretty sure you can claim self-defense and maul her.”

Izuku couldn’t contain his laughter, tears gathered in his eyes as he imagined such a scene playing out.  As his breathing returned to normal, he grinned, spending this time with his best friend was something he needed to start to feel normal again.

Though as he returned to Katsuki’s house and settled into his room, Izuku couldn’t help but dwell on the blonde’s situation.  He’d experienced for himself how easy it had been for Inasa to gradually take control of his own life.  Could Katsuki be experiencing it himself with Ochako?

“Deku?” Katsuki called as he knocked on the bedroom door.  Izuku opened it to see the blonde holding several folders held together by thick rubber bands.  “I’m going in for my shift, but this is the first of the files I need you to look through.  I left notes wherever I thought you’d need some extra information, but if you get held up on anything, call or text me.”

“Great, I’ll get right on this for you, Kacchan!” Izuku said as he took the folders, his fingers briefly grazing over Katsuki’s during the hand off.  The omega froze, suddenly hyper-focused on how soft and warm his touch was. Izuku's thoughts drifted while trying to recall when he’d last been held or touched gently by Inasa.

Katsuki noticed Izuku’s mind wandering and tapped his elbow to bring his attention back.  “Hey, don’t push yourself to do any of this, there’s no deadline to meet.  Take your time, okay nerd?” he said, his crimson eyes watching Izuku with concern.

“Of course, I’ll be careful, you do the same during your shift,” Izuku replied, pushing the depressing notion of his loneliness down to smile at Katsuki and assure him he’d be fine.  Giving a wave as they exchanged goodbyes, Izuku closed the door and took a cleansing breath before settling himself at the desk in the guest room and opened the first file.

A few hours into his analysis, Izuku started to notice his hands trembling, a telltale sign that he was overdue for a meal.  Jotting down some notes to remind him where to start once he returned to work, Izuku stood and stretched before leaving the room for the kitchen.

Ochako glanced at him from the kitchen table as he shuffled over to the fridge, her chocolate brown eyes felt like they were piercing through him whenever she looked his way.  As if his entire life and all his decisions were under a microscope she operated, judging his worth while flashing a toothy grin.

“That isn’t part of the diet I printed out for you,” she said as Izuku pulled out the cold cuts and bread to make a sandwich.  “Are you even trying to follow it?  What about the supplements?”  Izuku froze and held the counter, looking at the food that didn’t make him want to hurl and tried to be polite.

“I appreciate your help, and I do my best to follow the plan and take the vitamins, but not all of it agrees with my little ‘green bean’, here,” Izuku said with a joyful smile as he rubbed a circle over his stomach.

Out of nowhere, Ochako stood up so fast her chair skidded back and toppled over.  Within seconds she was next to him, a hand on her hip as she started to lay into him.  “So you’re blaming your pup on you being a terrible dam that won’t even provide some proper nutrition to it?  What kind of mother would just let a helpless pup starve?”

“I think that’s a little exaggerated, I’m still eating even if it isn’t all from the diet foods!” Izuku said in his defense.  “Honestly, that accusation is hurtful.  I have my five month checkup soon, and from my last one, they said everything was normal.”

Attempting to de-escalate the situation, Izuku put some space between himself and the other omega, though she took that as a sign to dig in deeper.  “Do you know how offensive it is to take time out of my day to research proper diets and buy expensive food and pills to ensure your ‘green bean’ can grow healthy, only to see you throw some disgusting and unhealthy crap together?”

“I’m not throwing–”

“You’re incredibly ungrateful is what you are,” Ochako said, silencing Izuku with her harsh words.  “My husband pulled you off the street, I welcomed you into our home and provided you with a way to keep your child safe.  How would you have even managed to feed yourself out there on your own?  You couldn’t even keep shoes on your feet and somehow expected to provide for your ‘green bean.’”

Izuku’s shoulders dropped, heavy with defeat.  Her words hit him where he was most insecure.  “T-That was inconsiderate of me,” he said, barely above a whisper.  “I’ll do better to make sure my baby is healthy.”  He returned the food he’d taken out back where they belonged before reaching for the prepackaged “healthy” food that brought on his nausea.

Watching the pregnant omega go back to his room with proper food, Ochako smirked as she saw the silhouette of his prominent baby bump before Izuku disappeared through the door.  “At least do one thing right, you stray.”

Chapter Text

“Morning sickness still kicking your ass?” Katsuki asked as Izuku walked slowly into the main room, his eyes swollen and red from his latest visit to the toilet.  He rested a hand at the top of his belly and nodded, thanking Katsuki as he pulled out a chair at the table and got him seated as comfortably as he could get.

Ochako was surprisingly absent for breakfast, though it didn’t mean he was free to avoid the nausea-inducing meal waiting for him.  Unaware of Izuku’s problem with the food, Katsuki had warmed the thick porridge up and set it in front of him.  “I thought that was normally only a first trimester thing,” Katsuki continued as he sat across from him, cup of coffee in his hand and a plate of eggs and grilled fish partially eaten.

“Sometimes it can linger a bit longer, I just have to make sure I’m drinking lots of fluids and eating healthy when I can.  I don’t want my pup to be sick because of me,” Izuku said as he picked up the spoon and shoveled the paste-like mixture into his mouth while he grimaced at the taste and smell.

“You’re doing a damn good job of keeping the both of you healthy, don’t say shit like that when it ain’t true.”  Katsuki looked up to see Izuku’s face turning pale as his eyes started to water again.  He watched as Izuku struggled to swallow his food, and when he tried to raise another spoonful to his mouth, Katsuki reached over to grab his wrist.

“Why don’t I make you something else to eat?  Something healthy that actually tastes good.”

The thought of real food sounded like a dream to Izuku, though the current damage had already been done, feeling his stomach lurch as he covered his mouth and rushed back to the bathroom.

“Or maybe not,” Katsuki said as he slumped back into his seat.  Looking at what was left of his plate, he suddenly didn’t feel compelled to finish it.  Not wanting it to go to waste, he wrapped it up and set it beside Izuku’s bowl, briefly considering tossing the crap out before leaving it be.  His wife would only nag at him again for trying to interfere with her meticulous diet plans.

It took him by surprise how quickly Ochako had calmed down the night Izuku came to stay with them.  He considered that being an omega, she put aside her hostile attitude to help nurture the pupped Izuku and support him.

So when she started paying more attention to Izuku and picking up prenatal vitamins and creating all the diet rules and programs, Katsuki relaxed and let the two omegas be.  If there was an issue, Izuku would say so to either himself or Ochako.

He cleaned up around the kitchen and finished preparing for his shift, gathering the folders Izuku had set on the table near the doorway the night before, finished with his analysis.

“Really sorry for running off like that,” Izuku said, his voice hoarse.  He rubbed his throat and looked up to Katsuki.  “If you have any more cases or profiles I can help with, let me know.”

“Give me a chance to read through these first, dork,” he said as he tapped the folders in his hand against Izuku’s forehead lightly.  “Take a break, if I have anything else come up I know where to find you.  If you think you can handle it, I left the remainder of my food for you.  You can toss it if it’s too much though.  I’ll be back later this evening, okay?”

Izuku nodded as he touched where Katsuki had smacked him and grinned, “I’ll see you then, Kacchan, have a safe patrol!”  The blonde nodded as he walked out, leaving Izuku on his own.  He returned to the table and uncovered the food Katsuki left for him.  Looking around, expecting Ochako to suddenly appear and force that gross porridge on him, Izuku wasted no time in finishing off the eggs and tasty fish, savoring the seasonings Katsuki added.

Relief settled in him as his stomach was full and he felt comfortable again.  He wondered if it would be okay to take Katsuki up on his offer to make meals for him when Ochako wasn’t home.  His little green bean seemed happy with the alpha’s food, Izuku could almost start purring at how content he felt.  His omega whispered echoes of ‘alpha provides’ and ‘alpha cares’, and he could almost float as sweet, happy pheromones leaked into the air.

He was unsure how much time had passed before the sound of the door unlocking pulled him from his joyful daydreams.  Recognizing Ochaco’s scent permeate the room, Izuku quickly shoved the empty plate away from him and replaced it with the long-forgotten porridge.

“Good morning, Izuku!” Ochako said, far more cheerful than he’d heard from her before.  “I thought we could both use a day trip, get some fresh air, walk around a bit?  You only ever leave for appointments and that can’t be good for the baby, being stuck indoors so much.”

Surprised by the sudden invitation, Izuku didn’t know how to respond.  His chest and stomach were sore from throwing up first thing this morning, and his back wasn’t feeling so hot either after leaning over the toilet.  “That sounds really nice, Ochako, but I’m not feeling that great right now.  Maybe once I’ve rested for a while, we can take a short walk around the neighborhood?”

“But I was really hoping that we could get out and do something together!  You’ve had plenty of time to rest, and I heard that the more active you are during your pregnancy, the better off you are when you go into labor.  You’re nearly five months along, you need to keep moving!”

“I– I guess that makes sense,” Izuku muttered before answering, “Yeah, okay, maybe just a short trip this time?”

Ochako jumped up and down, thrilled to have talked Izuku into her plans for the day.  “Great!  Go ahead and get dressed, I have a little surprise in the works so we can’t waste time.”

The drive to Ochako’s mystery destination ended up being anything but short, with Izuku watching the city from the passenger window as she drove several towns away before stopping in a familiar area.

“Are we in Shizuoka?” he asked, realizing she had brought him close to his family’s home.

“It’s such a quaint little area, perfect for a day out, right?  There’s a coffee shop we have to visit, let’s go!”  Ochako slipped her hand into Izuku’s and started leading him toward a row of shops.  Despite how she had convinced him to get out of the house, it seemed ironic for her to be dragging him inside again.

The coffee shop was dimly lit, the air held the scent of vanilla and baked bread, Izuku’s mouth started to water as they walked up to the counter and saw the case full of pastries and muffins.  The lady behind the counter bowed gracefully as she spoke.  “Hello, welcome in, what can I get for you today?”

“Yes, yes, I’ll have a peach oolong tea and a mochi donut.  Oh, and he’ll have a decaf matcha milk tea,” Ochako said quickly before Izuku could even start to ask for his own drink.  The scent of matcha was especially offensive to him from before he escaped Inasa, and here he was being subjected to it again.  But Izuku knew where things would go if he tried to say anything, resigning to at least attempt to look like he enjoyed it.

Once their order arrived, Ochako led Izuku to a seat near the door, taking the side of the booth that faced the entrance without giving Izuku the choice.  With the matcha drink in front of him, Izuku tried to delay his first taste by starting a conversation.  “So, now that we’re out and about, was there anything specific you wanted to do?  I don’t remember much of what was here when I was a kid, but I believe there was a science museum nearby if you’d like to–”

“Ahh, looks like your surprise is here!” Ochako said, looking past Izuku’s shoulder toward the door.  The chime rang as someone entered, with both Ochako and Izuku standing to greet the newcomer.  As Ochako tented her fingers together in front of her face in a look of joy, Izuku only felt a paralyzing shock of fear as he saw his mother, Inko Midoriya, rushing over to them.

“Oh, my Izuku!” she said exasperated, petting her hands all over his face and hair.  “Where on Earth have you been?  Inasa has been calling me at all hours asking if I’ve seen you!”  She took a step back to get a view of him again, eyes widening as they stopped at his baby bump.  “You’re carrying?!”

“M-Mom, we should probably talk about this somewhere a little more private,” Izuku said, hoping that his mom wouldn’t overreact as she tended to do when surprised by sudden situations.

Ochako swept in to steal Inko’s attention, taking her hand and grasping it gently.  “I’m so glad that you could make it today, Mrs. Midoriya, we thought it’d be a nice surprise for you to visit with your son!  Katsuki had to work though and said he regrets not getting to see you, I hope you’ll forgive him!”

Shock woke Izuku up from his stunned silence, was this really something Katsuki had a hand in planning?  He doubted he’d do something like this without giving him fair warning, especially in his circumstances.  “Let’s take a seat and get comfortable, I guess,” he offered as he gestured for the ladies to come back to the booth.

“Well I’m just so thankful that you reached out to let me know my boy was in your care, Ochako, and please, just Inko is fine.  Now that I’m here, Izuku, I have to ask why you aren’t at home with your alpha?  He’s been so distressed and no one has been able to get ahold of you!”

This wasn’t the time or place he’d wanted to have this talk with his mother, but there’s no way she’d let him leave without an explanation.  So he told her about Inasa’s changing behavior, his obsessiveness and eventual abuse.  Rather than showing signs of compassion and understanding, Inko grew agitated the longer he spoke.

“I never would have expected you to do something so foolish, Izuku.  That alpha was perfect for you and all you’re doing is showing how ungrateful you are!”

“But mom!  He kept me locked away in our home, wouldn’t let me get a job in the career I went to school for!  If I had stayed and he found out about my pup, he would have gotten even worse!  Please believe me,” Izuku said, tears streaming down his face now, “I left because I had to protect my child, you understand that, right?”

“What I understand is that you’re not appreciating the loyal and caring alpha you have.  Your own poor excuse for a sire didn’t put nearly half the effort into taking care of his family as Inasa has done for you!  Hisashi was a poor excuse for an alpha, leaving us the way he did, and that’s why you need to go back to Inasa!  He’s already proved that he isn’t a deadbeat like your father!”

Ochako carefully watched the situation unfold, with Izuku’s mother surprisingly siding with this Inasa guy that was the sire to his pup.  When she had first overheard Katsuki and Izuku talking about visiting the omega’s mother, it sounded like Izuku’s worries about her were unfounded considering how strongly Katsuki defended her.

Arranging this meeting was a risk she needed to take though.  If Inko had decided to keep her son safe from this allegedly bad alpha, she likely would have taken him into her home and all her plans would fall through.

But this turn of events…  This was moving everything in her favor.  The more desperate Izuku became, the easier it’ll be to make her dreams come true when the time comes for her little spark to arrive.  She could already smell the distress coming from the pregnant omega, knowing it wouldn’t take much more for him to go into a drop.

“I’m sorry Mrs. Midoriya, but this isn’t what I had in mind when I planned this surprise visit for Izuku.  From what I understood, you were a loving mother to him and would comfort him in his fragile condition.”  She stood and pulled up a stunned, crying Izuku and supported him with an arm around his waist.

“It’s fortunate that we met here, so there’s no way you can show up out of the blue to scare Izuku more than you already have.  Come on Izuku, we’re leaving.”  Ochako marched out of the shop with Izuku, keeping him steady until they got to the car.  She took off before Inko could approach Izuku’s window, her shouts muffled by the sound of the engine and low music from the stereo.

Izuku focused on the hum of the car, he couldn’t let his mother’s words get to him.  She just didn’t understand!  He wasn’t being selfish, he was acting for the safety of his pup.  None of what she said was true about Inasa, he wasn’t a good alpha at all, but she didn’t want to believe him!

He started to feel light-headed and rested his fevered forehead against the cool window glass for some relief.  This wasn’t good, he couldn’t let himself drop now, there’s no telling what it could do to his baby.  He had to stay strong for his little green bean, no matter how dark things seemed.

“I had no idea your mother would act like that, Izuku,” Ochako said, her voice filling the near-silence of their drive.  “Choosing to defend someone else and not her own son, it’s awful to think of.  What kind of mother would do that?  At least you are attempting to take care of your child the best you can.”

“I-I’d rather not talk about what just happened right now, please,” Izuku replied quietly, voice strained.  He can’t let himself drop now.  If only they could get back to Katsuki’s house, back to his nest where he felt safe.

Ochako looked over to Izuku, sweating and tucked against the car door.  The stench of distress was flooding the car, the other omega close to dropping.  She could tell he was down and this was where she could begin to make her move.

“Now now, you shouldn’t get yourself worked up over this!  You getting sick or dropping would only put your pup in danger.  I’m sure you’d never want that, right?  It must be stressful to be in such a tough spot after all, running away after getting pregnant.  Possibly before you were ready?”

“She’s overstepping a lot, so don’t let her get too close.”

Shouto’s warning sounded through his head, cutting through the haziness of the coming drop.  Izuku could see it now, Ochako’s manipulations.  She’d intended for the meeting with his mother to go badly.  And she likely wanted him to drop, as a way to prove he was an unfit dam for his pup.

He took several deep breaths, clearing his mind of the events of this terrible day.  Instead, he focused on getting to fill in more of his little green bean’s baby book with more facts and achievements as his pregnancy continued.  He thought of making himself useful working with Katsuki on his cases, and looking forward to whatever food the alpha would cook for him when they could get out from under Ochako’s watchful eye.

Slowly, the heavy scent dissipated, and Izuku’s eyes were now clear and dry.

“It may have been a surprise, but I’m ready for my little green bean,” he answered, protectively holding his stomach as he looked out the window.

Silence returned and Izuku was grateful for it.

Chapter Text

As Katsuki began his normal routine to start his day and make breakfast, he noticed that the prepackaged meal intended for Izuku was missing from its spot in the fridge.  The omega wasn’t much of an early riser, especially with his recent bouts of morning sickness.  He hadn’t been seeing Izuku outside of their guest room as often either, which seemed odd.

Setting down his ingredients on the counter, he approached the bedroom door and lightly knocked on the door.  He heard a faint “come in” and let himself inside.  And there was Izuku, resting on a pillow against the headboard, breakfast nearly finished beside him.  “Is something wrong, Kacchan?” Izuku asked, concerned.

“No, just wondered if you were okay since I hadn’t seen much of you lately.  I should have figured you might’ve been feeling like crap.”  Katsuki watched as Izuku avoided his eyes, hesitating at first before he gathered the nerve to speak.

“I saw my mother, she wasn’t very supportive,” he breathed out before continuing.  “Even after I told her about Inasa, she still demanded I go back to him.  I had a feeling she’d act that way, and I really hoped to be wrong, but,” Izuku couldn’t hold back his sobs any longer, his forearms coming up to hide his face.

Katsuki rushed to Izuku, easing out his scent to calm the omega down as he gently exposed his face and let Izuku rest against his shoulder as he rubbed circles over his back.  “Easy there, it’ll be okay, you know what’s best for yourself and the green bean.”

“I’m not so sure I do, I feel like I’m messing things up no matter what I do.” Izuku replied, his mind replaying his most recent interactions with Katsuki’s wife and how down he felt whenever her words hit him where it hurt most.

“You’re being ridiculous again, Deku.  You’re doing great for yourself and nailing the whole parent thing.  And your analysis work has been some of the best my department has seen.  Once you’re ready, there’s a job waiting for you.  So cut yourself some slack, alright?”

Izuku nodded as he calmed down, keeping himself close to the alpha until his shaking had stopped.  Katsuki rested his chin on top of his unruly green curls.  “You don’t have to answer if it’s too much, but how did you run into Auntie Inko?  She doesn’t live nearby and if I remember right, doesn’t like to travel.”

“You don’t know?  But Uraraka said you both planned the trip and the meeting,” Izuku said, sounding confused.

“She must’ve told me when I wasn’t paying attention, don’t worry about it,” Katsuki said as he gave Izuku one last soothing pat on his back and left the bed.  “You just relax for the day, alright?”  Izuku nodded and wiggled under the covers as Katsuki closed the door.  He needed to get away from the omega before he could catch the anger starting to waft off of him.

His wife had some explaining to do.

Finding her in their bedroom, Katsuki took a deep breath before he got her attention.  “Why did you set up a meeting with Izuku’s mother before checking with me first?”

“Oh, that?  I was just thinking about how excited I’d be to let my parents know I was having a baby, and wanted Izuku to have that same joy!  I thought the surprise would make him happy, how was I supposed to know his mother wouldn’t take the news well?”

“If Izuku had wanted to see her, he would have told me and then we could have made plans.  What you did was intrusive and unfair to him!  He shouldn’t have been subjected to that stressful situation.  And you damn sure shouldn’t have lied to him about me having any part of it!”

Uraraka only stood there, arms raised as she shrugged, “I was only trying to do something nice for the guy, sorry.”

“You’re apologizing to the wrong person,” Katsuki said as he left the room in a huff.  No longer hungry, he threw the food he was going to make back in the fridge before gathering his things and leaving for work.

The night before Izuku’s doctor’s appointment, Katsuki was nervous.  He’d asked Izuku the other day if he wanted company for such an important visit, where they’d be doing an ultrasound.  The omega said yes, mood brightening right before Katsuki’s eyes.  He wanted to keep seeing that smile, and now he was looking through his closet to decide on what to wear.

“What has you fussing over your wardrobe so suddenly?” Uraraka asked as she left the bathroom in her pajamas, her nighttime skin and hair routine complete.

“Izuku’s appointment, he wants me to go with him for this one,” Katsuki said from inside his walk-in closet.

Uraraka frowned, her plan revolved around her being at that appointment.  Not willing to let her chance go so easily, she walked over to Katsuki’s closet, leaning against the frame.  “Oh, didn’t Izuku let you know that it was rescheduled to next week?  Must have slipped the poor thing’s mind.”

“What are you talking about?  It’s tomorrow, I wouldn’t forget that quickly,” answered Katsuki, eyeing Uraraka suspiciously.

“Well if you don’t believe me, you can wake him up and ask him yourself.  I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if you woke him up after he’s been having trouble sleeping lately,” Uraraka replied nonchalantly.

Aware of the recent stress and difficulty resting because of it, Katsuki decided not to follow her suggestion.  “I’ll just ask him in the morning,” he said as he shut off the closet light and got settled into bed, Uraraka doing the same.

Katsuki woke up later than he intended, the alarm he was sure he set didn’t go off at the right time.  After relieving himself and dressing, he went into the main room and saw a note pinned to the fridge door among the sheets of diet plans and supplement regimens.

Sorry, it turns out I was mistaken about Izuku’s appointment after all.  Don’t worry, I’ll keep him company for his visit!  XO-Ochako’

“Damnit!” Katsuki said, gripping the note and crumpling it up in his fist.

“I know you were looking forward to Katsuki being here, but you know how his schedule can be with the department!” Uraraka said as they got out of the car and walked into the doctor’s office.  “But at least you aren’t here alone, right?”

Izuku nodded, too let down to attempt to complain that she was the last person he wanted with him today.  But he needed to make this appointment, so he agreed to let her take him.  Walking up to the front desk, he spoke to the receptionist, who gathered some papers for him to fill out on a clipboard.

Uraraka sat silently as Izuku filled out the paperwork, waiting until he was finished before hopping out of her seat.  “I can bring that back to the desk for you Izuku, you can just relax in your seat.”  He warily passed her the clipboard, and just as she turned away, she fumbled it in her hand, the pages scattering everywhere.

“Well shoot, that was embarrassing!” Uraraka said as she gathered the papers casually and hooking them back onto the clipboard.  “Uh oh, looks like you missed a signature on this page,” she said as she lifted up a page to reveal a sheet of fine print.

“Izuku Midoriya?” a voice called out through the lobby.  A nurse had popped out of a door ready to take them to the back.  Ready to get back there, he hastily signed the page before getting up to follow the nurse, leaving Uraraka to return the clipboard before rejoining him.

“So it looks like we’re here for the six month check-up and ultrasound, right Mr. Midoriya?  And it looks like you have someone here with you for support, that’s so important as you progress through your pregnancy,” said the nurse as she pulled the cart toward him to check his vitals.

“I’m fully invested in making sure Izuku and baby are well taken care of!” answered Uraraka as she took the seat closest to the exam table.  Once the vitals were noted, the nurse returned with the ultrasound machine and started preparing it.

Izuku followed the nurse’s directions and soon he was watching the screen with absolute wonder as vague shapes started to appear that slowly became recognizable as feet.  His joyful tears became sobs as the nurse tuned into the baby’s heartbeat.  “That’s my bean!  My little green bean, right there!”

“Baby Midoriya isn’t feeling shy today, would you like to know the gender today?” the nurse asked as she watched the monitor.

“I’d prefer for it to be a surpri–”

“I must know what we’re having!” Uraraka blurted out over Izuku.  “There’s so much to plan once we have an answer.”

All Izuku could do was stare at Uraraka, shocked that she so blatantly ignored his wishes.  His attention on her, he didn’t notice the nurse looking at him as she asked again.  “Uh, huh?” was his response to Uraraka, though the nurse took it as a yes to her question.

“Well you have a very healthy baby boy on the way, Mr. Midoriya!  I’ll print out some images from the ultrasound so you can share the news.  Congratulations!”  The nurse wiped the gel off Izuku’s stomach and wheeled the ultrasound cart out of the room, leaving the two omegas alone.

Izuku looked down to his exposed belly, shaking his head over losing the joy of surprise over what he was having.  What had started out as happy tears quickly turned sad and resentful.  He looked over to Uraraka, who was visibly less excited after receiving the news.

“-was looking forward to dressing up a girl,” she muttered almost out of his earshot when the nurse returned with an envelope of prints.  Determined not to let his disappointment show in front of the nurse, Izuku looked through them, still happy to see his little bean and how he’s grown.

“Let me see!” Uraraka said as she swiped one of the prints from Izuku’s hand, looking it over before pulling out her phone to take pictures of it, sharing them with who knows who.  Once she finished, she dropped the print onto his lap.  “Are you ready to leave now?”

The nurse looked at Izuku with concern, but he did his best to not show how upset he was as he nodded and left the office.  He was lost on how to handle what just happened with Uraraka.  If he tried to stand up for himself, all she’d do was accuse him of being ungrateful again.

He spent the ride home silently crying as he messaged Shouto and asked to be picked up from Katsuki’s house.  Shouto responded with a thumbs up emoji, followed by a race car and flames.  Before Uraraka put the car in park Izuku rushed out and ran into the house.

“Hey Izuku, I’m really sorry about the appointment,” Katsuki started to say as he heard the door open and close quickly.  Noticing the tears and the sour turn of Izuku’s scent, he stopped his apology and followed the omega as he ran to his room, only to have the door closed in the alpha’s face.  “What happened, why are you so upset?”

“I-I can’t do this anymore Kacchan!  I know you wanted to help me, but if I stay here any longer, I know I’ll drop,” Izuku cried as he gathered as many of his belongings as he could and stuffed them into an old backpack that was left in the closet.  His phone vibrated, with a message saying Shouto had just pulled up.

Izuku took several of Katsuki’s hoodies and packed them away during a final sweep of the room before unlocking the door and stepping past the worried alpha.  “What do you mean drop?  Please, Deku, what’s going on?  Don’t leave me in the dark like this,” Katsuki begged as he noticed the bag hanging over his shoulder.  “You’re leaving?!”

“It’s what’s best for me, and for my baby, Kacchan.  I’m grateful for everything you’ve done for me, but I need to go,” Izuku said as he whimpered.

The door opened once again to reveal Shouto followed by an irate Uraraka, the beta urging Izuku to come along.  “What right do you have to enter our house and leave with him!” Uraraka yelled while Shouto hung his arm over Izuku’s shoulder and brought him close.

“Icy Hot?  What are you doing here?” Katsuki asked, momentarily distracted from Izuku before taking in Shouto’s protective stance.  It bothered him to see the omega finding comfort with someone else, his fear soothed by the other man.

“All I know is Izuku needed me to pick him up,” Shouto said, leading Izuku to the door.  “If I had to guess, I’d say it had something to do with her,” he added, nodding his head toward Uraraka.  “Don’t worry though, he’ll be in good hands, Bakugou.”

The door closed, leaving Katsuki and Uraraka alone in the tension-filled room.  Uraraka was the first one to break the silence, setting down her purse in its usual place before wandering past Katsuki into the kitchen.  “I’m not sure what all that fuss was about, but it was certainly uncalled for.”

“What happened at that appointment that could have made Izuku upset enough to leave in a panic?” Katsuki said, his voice growing louder with impatience.  “Was there bad news?  Is there something wrong with green bean?!”  The man was desperate for answers and glared at the woman he expected could provide them.

“Of course it wasn’t bad news, Katsuki.  He’s having a boy.  Whatever caused him to act so disrespectful is a puzzle to me as much as it is for you,” Uraraka said as she took the drink she had poured while speaking and walked away into their room.

Although she would have preferred to keep a close eye on him, it didn’t matter where the damn stray ran off to, she had what she needed to ensure her plans would work.

Chapter Text

“Are you sure you want to walk back, Izuku?  I can have Sho pick us up, it’s not a problem,” asked Fuyumi, Shouto’s sister as the two of them left that week’s parenting class.  After Izuku moved in with Shouto, the two became fast friends, especially once Fuyumi shared that she had a little one on the way as well.

Izuku stopped a few feet ahead of her, his arms instantly bracing his hips, his form similar to a penguin, right down to the waddle.  “My doctor said it was good to walk during the ninth month.  The due date is getting close, and exercise can help with labor.”

“Yeah, moving around is good for both you and the kiddo, but you’ve still got two weeks before then, you could use some relaxation!  C’mon, I’ll get us a ride and then we can look through the nesting catalogs again.”  Izuku sighed and gave the older Todoroki a grin as he accepted her offer.

Izuku tried to limit how much of an inconvenience his presence caused when Shouto had taken him back to his home after the disastrous 6 month appointment.  Izuku knew of his friend’s family problems regarding his negligent father and didn’t want to impose during such a sensitive time.  But Shouto (and eventually Fuyumi as well) assured Izuku that he was a welcome addition to their home.

Izuku had laid awake in one of their guest rooms the first night wondering if he should have sought out help from Shouto from the beginning.  But as he dwelled on it, he knew that it would have been dangerous considering that Inasa was familiar with Shouto and would have made his residence his first stop to look for Izuku.

Also, if he’d done that, he wouldn’t have found his way back into Katsuki’s life again.  So he found it hard to regret the choices he made in the rain that night.

Soon after Fuyumi’s call to Shouto, the beta arrived and helped both pregnant omegas into the car, fussing over Izuku in particular, as if a single poke or prod to his belly would result in the pup exploding his way into the world.

“Bakugou picked up the last of his files while you two were away,” Shouto said once they were all loaded into the car and headed home.  “He seemed disappointed that you weren’t there to give them to him.”

He isn’t the only one disappointed, Izuku thought as he thanked Shouto for letting him know.  After his quick departure from Katsuki’s house, the alpha had texted him, apologizing profusely until Izuku called to say there was nothing to apologize for and that he’d like to move on from the incident.

Katsuki texted him more often, mostly little conversations asking how he was doing and if he needed anything.  Izuku had been the one to mention the profile analysis, and Katsuki was more than happy to provide him with more files.  It gave them a reason to stay in touch and briefly meet to discuss cases as Izuku finished his work.

Sensing the sudden sad turn of his scent, Fuyumi approached the other omega and cheerfully scented him.  “I think we’ve both earned some cuddle time in the couch nest, Izuku.  Why don’t you pick something to watch while Sho brings us some snacks!”  She looked to her little brother who left to gather each of their favorites so he could join in on their cuddle pile.

Katsuki left the files he picked up from Icy Hot’s house on the table by the front door, running his hand over the manila folder before bringing it up to his nose.  It carried a light remnant of Izuku’s scent, an aroma he sorely missed being in his house.

His chest heaving in a mopey sigh, he wandered into the kitchen and found some leftovers to heat up.  For the last three months, he rarely spent any time at home.  Focusing on work meant Katsuki didn’t have to cross paths with his wife any more than necessary.  It gave the alpha time to think about his current situation.

Uraraka remained solid in her belief that she’d done nothing wrong to Izuku, blaming him for not making his wishes for the gender reveal to be a surprise known to them all before the visit.  It became easier to ignore her after that, not that she was pushing to spend time with him either.

In the last month, she spent more of her time away from home, claiming to be visiting her parents.  Honestly, Katsuki didn’t pay attention to her explanations, only acknowledging when she’d be gone.  Packages would arrive in her name, and he’d only move them to their garage, not caring what they were.

“Katsuki, are you actually here?” called Uraraka from the front door as Katsuki sat at the kitchen table with his food.  She got her confirmation once she walked into the house, carrying a baby blue shopping bag.  “Oh good, there’s something we should discuss.”

Being an observant man, Katsuki knew by her body language and tone of voice that she didn’t have in mind what had been on his mind for the last few weeks.  Maybe now was the time to break it to her that he wanted a divorce.

“I know that you’ve been upset ever since Izuku left.  No need to deny it, I can tell you miss having him around.”  Her blunt words took Katsuki by surprise.  Maybe she was on the same page that he was and could tell their relationship just wasn’t capable of lasting any longer.

“So, I’ve been making some plans, and I’d like to throw a baby shower!  We can celebrate Izuku and the baby and let him know that there’s no hard feelings.  And the little spark would get so much support from us, just what he needs–”

“Wait, you want to throw Izuku a baby shower?  That’s what you think we need right now?!”

“Yes, Katsuki,” Uraraka shot back, irritated, “It’ll be better for us if we just move on and focus on our future.”

Katsuki shook his head, pushing away the plate in front of him as his elbows rested on the table as his hands rested on his temples.  “This has got to be some kind of shitty joke.  I’m not finding it funny trying to make sense of how you could think that would make things better!”

Katsuki took a deep breath, doing his best to maintain his temper, but the shocked look on Uraraka’s face wasn’t making it easy.  She honestly thought this was what he wanted to fix things!

“You don’t have to be so negative about this, Katsuki.  Maybe I did overstep once or twice while Izuku was staying with us, but it was only in the best interest of the baby!  And now I’d like to do this so we can still continue to do so!”

“You are out of your mind!” Katsuki said as he launched himself up from the table.  “The best thing for that baby is for you to not be anywhere near him!  I’m so fucking mad, not just at you, but at myself for not seeing you for who you really have been all this time!  It all has to go your way or not at all, and I can’t do this anymore, Ochako.  I’m done.  I’m leaving, you can expect to hear from my lawyer once I file for a divorce.”

Uraraka watched the alpha stomp past, gathering his most important belongings before making his way to the door.  “Are you serious?  You want a divorce?!  What do you think I’ve been trying to do all this time?  I’ve been working to make us stronger, to finally have all we wanted for our life together.  And you’re ready to throw it all away right at the end!!”

“I have no idea what the fuck you’re talking about, but if I’ve learned anything over the last six months, it’s that you are not the person I thought I married.”  And at that, Katsuki walked out of his own house.

Chapter Text

Katsuki looked at the text notification, sent a few minutes ago by Izuku, and his heart nearly jumped to his throat.  He’d leased an apartment close to his job (and Todoroki’s place) until the details of his pending divorce were finalized.  Uraraka wasn’t making it easy, of course, reluctant to sign the papers or meet with their lawyers.

Touching the phone screen, he held his breath as Izuku’s message appeared.

“So Shouto and Fuyumi are insisting on throwing a baby shower for me and little green bean, which they totally didn’t have to do! But I feel like I’d hurt their feelings if I refused, so…  Well, anyway, would you, if you aren’t busy with work (I haven’t forgotten about the latest file, I swear!!) maybe have a little time to stop by when the shower is going on?  Totally optional!”

Katsuki couldn’t help but laugh to himself, “Nerd, can’t stop that nervous muttering even when texting, huh.”  It was a welcome break from the dreariness of the last week.  Since he finally realized how manipulative Uraraka had been, Katsuki spent a good part of his time alone dwelling on the years spent with her.

Had she been this way from the beginning?  He wanted to believe not, but that led him to wonder if he was the reason she changed so drastically.  Was he so difficult to love that she became who she was now?

Fortunately, those dark moments didn’t have a chance to linger once Izuku came back into the picture.  The texts and short visits at Todoroki’s house to go over case files kept him going.  And with this latest message, he was in a far better mood.

“Don’t get yourself all worked up over a party invite.  Of course I’ll be there, if that’s what you want.”

Almost immediately after he sent it, Katsuki watched three little dots pop up under his reply.  It did a disappearing and reappearing act for several minutes, because Izuku had to be spazzing out over his answer, dork.

“That’s great, I’m happy to know you’ll be there, Kacchan.  It’ll be this upcoming Saturday at the cafe near the park, 2pm.  See you then!”

He answered back quickly with a “wouldn’t miss it,” before pocketing his phone and grinned up at the sky.  Now he had some work to do, first getting in touch with Todoroki to find out where the baby registry lists were.

Not that he needed Icy Hot’s help to find the right gift for Izuku, but since it was also for his pup, it’d be smart to look over whatever lists there are so he could get something they needed.  And if that subtly scratched his inner alpha’s itch to provide, even better.

After he shot off a quick text to Todoroki, Katsuki was about to slip the phone back into his pocket when it started to ring.  Without looking at the screen, he answered, “Is it really too difficult for you to just send me the links to Deku’s baby registry, Half n’ Half?!”

Only silence answered back for a few seconds before a more familiar voice nearly shattered his ear drum.

“Katsuki Bakugou, did you knock up sweet little Izuku?!  Why are you asking Shouto for a registry?  Is this why I haven’t heard from you in ages?!”

Great, the last person that needed to know his current situation was his mother.  “No, Ma, I didn’t do anything to Deku.  He was in a tight spot and I helped him out.  Icy Hot is throwing him a baby shower this weekend, so I needed the list to get a gift.  Ya happy now that you’re all caught up on my life now?”

“I always wondered what happened to Inko and her boy, you two were inseparable back in the day,” his mother, Mitsuki, mused.  “So if you aren’t the sire, then I’m assuming you’re still with her .”

“Actually, no, there’s been a lot going on here lately,” Katsuki began, gradually filling his mother in on what had happened from the point where he’d gotten Izuku’s call and up to the present.  By the end of it, both Bakugous felt exhausted, yet also relieved for different reasons.

Even if they fought like cats and dogs most days, Mitsuki was one of few people Katsuki could talk to when he needed to get things off his chest.  And sharing the last few months with her relieved a considerable weight from his shoulders.

“Your father is going to be miserable with all the ‘I told you so’s’ headed his way.  From the first time you introduced us to Ochako, there was something about her that made me uneasy.  Sure, she seemed nice and polite, but a mother has an instinct for these things.”

“You didn’t make it much of a secret that you didn’t like her, Ma.  But anyway, I’m dealing with that shit now, so once it’s all done and over with, I’ll make a trip out there to visit.”

He heard the sound of keystrokes being swiftly pressed in the background before his mother replied.  “No need to wait that long, kid, your father and I just booked tickets to come into town this weekend.  If you think I’m going to miss out on seeing little Izuku and Inko during such a special event, you’re crazy!”

“Ma, you weren’t even invited!  And I already told you about the situation with Inko earlier.  There’s no way she’s going to be there, she nearly made him drop last time!  If you’re dead set on showing up, make damn sure you don’t mention her.”

“That’s fine, I won’t bring her up.  The Inko I knew back then would have never treated Izuku so cruelly.  But that’s all the more reason to be there and shower that boy and his pup with more love and presents!  I’ll message you the hotel info later, I’ll give Shouto a call about that registry.  Later, kiddo!”

And just like that, the chaotic storm known as Mitsuki Bakugou was gone as quickly as she’d arrived.  It was good to know that Katsuki had his parents on his side, at least where it concerned his marriage.

His phone vibrated in his hand again, and he was momentarily tempted to throw it across the room.  Recovering from that, he saw that Todoroki had sent him the lists.  Good, now he could get moving.

“You look amazing, Izuku, that color suits you!” Fuyumi cooed as she gently brushed the omega’s hair.  Just a week shy of his due date, Izuku had decided pants were no longer an option, and had been living in light, cotton nightshirts and dresses ever since.

Today’s choice was no exception, a lilac shaded sundress that wasn’t the least bit restrictive, with new house slippers that felt like he was walking on clouds.  As Fuyumi finished up his hair, setting a few cute hairclips in to help keep his hair away from his eyes, he looked in the mirror and smiled.

“Thanks, Fuyumi, I don’t know how I would have gotten through the last part of this pregnancy without you,” Izuku said as he scented her wrist, his scent light and happy.  Her own pup had started to move recently, and she quickly grabbed Izuku’s hand to guide it to where her belly was being pushed.

“I’m glad we were able to go through this together, Izuku.  With my husband overseas, I was worried that I would have a rough time.  But we made it through just fine!  It won’t be long before we’re planning playdates and sending them off to school together.”

“Well I don’t want time to go by that fast,” Izuku said with a hum as he moved his hand over his own stomach.  “I don’t want to miss a single moment with my little green bean.”

A knock on the door brought their attention to Shouto, who ducked his head in.  “Everything’s set up and people have started to arrive.  Did you want some help getting to the main room?”  Shouto had been in Mother Hen mode lately, and Izuku just couldn’t deny him the chance to coddle him.

Although that ended up with Shouto renting out the entire cafe for the baby shower, ensuring that their party remained private.  He graciously accepted Shouto’s help, especially now that sitting and standing were difficult.  They left the storage room and walked into the main cafe and Izuku was brought to tears by the scene.

The cafe was decorated with soft blue balloons and streamers, and as they got to the tables, Izuku couldn’t help but laugh at the party favors that looked like cans of green beans with ‘Little Green Bean’ printed on the label.  He was certain that Shouto made those, and picked one up and hugged it against his cheek while Fuyumi took a picture.

The door chime rang and announced Katsuki’s arrival.  He had barely managed to set his gift down on the appropriate table before Izuku waddled up to him.  ‘Like a cute lil’ penguin,’ Katsuki thought.

“Kacchan, I’m so happy to see you!” Izuku said, close to tears, though Katsuki doubted it was the first time the omega had cried so far today.  He had always been a crier, but pregnancy made it easier for him to turn on the waterworks.

He briefly scented Izuku’s wrist before answering, satisfied that the omega was eased by his scent.  “Same here, Deku.  Look, I don’t want to startle you, and if you aren’t up for it, I’ll tell them to beat it.  But if you are, my parents are here and they wanna see you.”

“Auntie and Uncle… They’re here, for me?”  Oh yeah, there go the tears.

“Yeah, do you want me to tell them to go or wait for another time, or–”

“No!  Please, I-I’d like to see them!” Izuku quickly replied, smiling as he wiped at his cheeks.  “They were always kind, I’ve missed them over the years.”

Katsuki took a relieved breath at Izuku’s answer.  It had been hard enough to convince the old hag to wait outside to make sure Izuku was okay with unexpected guests.  He waved at the door and gestured with his hand to come in, and within seconds, a blonde blur rushed through the room and surrounded Izuku in a warm hug.

“Izuku, sweetie!  You’ve grown so much!  I’m so glad that Katsuki let us know that you two had gotten back in touch again.  And you look amazing, how close are you to the due date?”  Izuku couldn’t help but purr as he was warmed by the motherly embrace, something that he’d missed for so long.  He was crying once again, Mitsuki putting her questions on hold to comfort him.

Masaru chose to join Katsuki and patted his son on the shoulder.  “I’m glad that Izuku was able to find you when he needed help.  Like when you two played heroes as kids.  Taking turns saving each other.  He knew you would save him, Katsuki.  That kind of trust is rare and strong.”

“You’re right, old man.  I’ve had my trust in the wrong people for too long.  But not anymore.  I don’t know how to approach it, or when, but I want to keep taking care of him, Dad.”

“You’re a smart one, Katsuki, I’m sure that you’ll let him know when the time is right.  Though I’d settle your current situation with Ochako, sooner than later.”

“Tch, easier said than done.  She keeps stalling for some damn reason.  But I’ll make sure it’s dealt with, I want to move forward.”

‘with Deku’ was left unsaid at the end, but Katsuki had a feeling his father got the idea.

Shouto knocked against one of the tables to get everyone’s attention.  “I think everyone is here, we should start with the party games.  For this first game, I’ve taken candy bars and melted them in baby diapers.  Write down what candy bar you think it is, based on the color, presence of nuts, and smell…”

After the games were played and the food and cake served and finished, Fuyumi and Shouto led Izuku over to the gift table, ready to start opening presents.  Mitsuki told Izuku to wait a moment and ran outside, returning with a new rocking chair, placing it next to the omega who gratefully sat and got comfortable with the lavish cushions.

Izuku opened the gifts, overjoyed with the support everyone was giving to him and his little green bean.  When he came to Katsuki’s present, it was in two parts.  The first was clearly meant for him, a new set of analysis notebooks and his favorite pens.  Katsuki gifted green bean a burnt orange and forest green blanket, subtly scented and made of the softest material Izuku had ever felt.

“Kacchan, this is…  It’s so nice,” he said as he started crying with joy, nuzzling the blanket against his cheek, clearly accepting it for his child.  Katsuki’s inner alpha soared at the gesture, urging him to further court the omega.  But he knew this was something he couldn’t rush, so he settled his alpha and grinned, letting Izuku know he was welcome for the gifts.

Everyone was so focused on the party, that it shocked everyone into silence when the entry door opened with enough force to make the chime ring erratically.  The mood quickly soured as Uraraka made her entrance into the cafe, a large fancy gift bag in her hand.

“Funny that when I told my husband I wanted to throw Izuku a baby shower, I was turned down and insulted.  And yet here you all are, throwing a party for the little stray omega!  He’s been coddled long enough, so here’s one more present for you, Izuku.”

She shoved the gift bag into Izuku’s lap, his instinct to avoid it was quick and it toppled to the floor, the contents scattered.  Uraraka picked up the slightly unfolded clothes, revealing three sets of matching pajamas.  Each with colorful words spelling out ‘Momma’, ‘Daddy’, and ‘Little Spark’.

Emboldened by the stunned silence of the room, Uraraka snatched up the ‘Momma’ set and held it against herself, showing it off to everyone present.  Seeing both Katsuki and his mother’s hackles start to rise with anger, Uraraka moved quickly and grabbed the smallest shirt.  She draped it over Izuku’s swollen belly, ‘Little Spark’ across him as she staked her claim.

“Your real Momma and Daddy are looking forward to seeing you soon,” Uraraka said as she knelt down and patted Izuku’s stomach to his horror.

Katsuki moved first, lunging toward Uraraka and pulling her away from Izuku, quickly planting himself in front of the omega.  “You’ve got some kind of death wish?!  I oughta drag you out of here by your hair!  How dare you do something like this to a vulnerable omega!”

“Don’t you touch me, Katsuki!” Uraraka said as she escaped his grasp, pulling a folded piece of paper from her jacket.  “I have a legal document that proves your little stray signed away his parental rights to me!  This is what our marriage needed, and once he has our baby, we’ll be a real family!”

The overwhelming scent of stressed omega quickly cut through the cafe air, Shouto and Fuyumi doing their best to calm Izuku down after Uraraka’s revelation.  “There’s no way, I’d never agree to let you take my baby!”

“I made sure this paper you signed would be legally binding, so as soon as OUR baby arrives, you will be escorted out of our lives for good!”

In his panic, Izuku tried to think of any point where she could have gotten his signature.  There weren’t many times when they were together in a situation that required him to write or sign anything.

But then…  It was the ultrasound appointment.  He recalled Uraraka dropping the clipboard and scattering the papers, pointing out a missed signature in the mess.  That had to be it!  She’d tricked him into signing, there’s no way that could be legally upheld!

“You tricked me!  That day at the appointment, you slipped that in with my paperwork!” Izuku yelled in desperation, finding it hard to catch his breath.

“Is that what you did?  How could you do something so underhanded and cruel?” Katsuki growled at Uraraka, who only folded her arms over her chest and smirked.

“Don’t act like this doesn’t work in your favor, Katsuki.  You’ve wanted a baby for years, and not being able to have one of our own is what had you resenting me.  That’s why you wanted the divorce, but now it’s not necessary!  I did this for us!  You wanted that baby as much as I did, only I was the one bold enough to do something about it!”

Izuku’s labored breathing grew worse, followed by a sharp whine as the seat of his chair grew wet.  “We need to get him to the hospital, I think he’s going into labor!” said Fuyumi as she held Izuku close, his eyes were hazy and pained.

Leaving Uraraka alone, Katsuki rushed over to pick Izuku up and with the Todorokis and Bakugous following close behind, they filed out of the cafe and into their vehicles, speeding toward the nearest hospital.

“We have a room prepared,” the head nurse said as the group rushed through the hospital doors.  Shouto had called ahead, ensuring that Izuku would be seen immediately.  He disliked using the Todoroki name to get preferential treatment, but Shouto was more than willing to do so for his closest friend.

Katsuki was reluctant to set Izuku down on the hospital bed, feeling the omega tremble against him.  It was only when Fuyumi and his own mother calmly said that he needed to let the doctors do their work that he relented, carefully putting him down.

“Are you the sire?” asked the nurse closest to them.  Crimson eyes widened at the question.  Should he say yes?  His inner alpha howled in agreement, urging him to claim responsibility.  But would it be too soon, too fast to make such a move

“Yes, he is,” answered Izuku himself, whimpering as he looked up at Katsuki, fear and hope lingering as he waited to see how Katsuki would respond.  A quick, assertive nod from the blonde alpha was enough of a confirmation.  Izuku wanted him to be there with him, at least through his labor and delivery.

The nurse passed him some scrubs and a hair net before directing the others to the waiting room.  Quickly dressing, he followed the nurse as they pushed Izuku’s bed to the delivery room.  As soon as it was situated, Katsuki was by Izuku’s side, holding his hand gently and brushing the sweat-dampened hair from his forehead.

“Kacchan, I can’t do this, I can’t.  She’s going to take him…  I can’t lose my baby.  He’s all I have,” Izuku said, voice breaking between sobs.  Katsuki pushed out his calming scent, hovering over Izuku as he scented not only his wrists, but the more intimate glands at his neck as well.  He could feel Izuku shiver against his skin, feeling him settle down from his rising panic.

“Izuku, there’s no way in Hell that I’m going to let anyone take this baby from you.  He’s yours and I’ll do everything I can to keep both of you safe.  You trust me, right?”

“Of course I do, but what if she gets away with taking my signature, that legal paper?”

A sudden contraction had Izuku curl up in pain, Katsuki right there to hold him and talk him through it.  He coached him with breathing techniques he’d read up on while Izuku had still been at his house.  Once it was over, Katsuki rested his forehead against Izuku’s temple.  “She won’t get away with it.  Plus Ultra swear.”

The phrase got Izuku’s attention, watery emeralds looked hopefully to Katsuki.  “You remembered, from back when we were kids…”

“Damn right, and you know how serious a Plus Ultra swear is, so just focus on bringing your green bean into the world.  He’s got a lot of people ready to spoil him rotten.  I’ve got you both.”

Izuku purred as Katsuki rubbed his back in slow, easy circles.  He could feel another contraction coming on, and after his talk with Katsuki, he felt assured that he could get through this and finally meet his pup.

“Is it supposed to take this long?” asked Shouto as the small group from the baby shower lingered in the waiting room.  Shouto was pacing, while Fuyumi was being comforted by Mitsuki.  Masaru was on the phone with his lawyer, seeking advice on the situation with Uraraka’s legal claims to Izuku’s child.

“Katsuki, that brat, didn’t want to vacate, took 37 hours of labor before he was born.  There’s no way to know how long it’ll take, hopefully Izuku will have an easy delivery,” Mitsuki said.  Unsatisfied with the answer, Shouto continued walking around the room.

Masaru returned to his seat next to Mitsuki and nudged her arm.  “I think we have a loophole to get Izuku out of that parental rights nonsense.  The waiver of parental rights technically needs both the dam and the sire’s signatures to be legally binding.”

“That’s excellent news!  I look forward to ruining that foolish girl once we know Izuku and his boy are safe and healthy,” Mitsuki said.  Fuyumi purred in agreement, her own pup restless since Uraraka’s appearance at the baby shower.

A nurse appeared in the room, ushering silence from everyone.  “Family of Midoriya?  We have a healthy little boy!  Once dam, sire, and pup have some time to bond, we can allow visitors.  There are scent neutralizers at the door, please use one before going in to see them.  Newborn pups can be overwhelmed by too many new scents at once.  We’ll call you in shortly.”

Shouto seemed confused as he looked at the others.  “Wait, when did Katsuki become the sire?”

“He’s perfect,” Izuku whispered, his voice strained from the delivery.  His little pup was finally here and resting peacefully in his arms.  Wisps of green and dark brown hair lightly covered his head.  Though he was asleep now, as he entered the world, his eyes were the same brilliant green as his dam, looking around the room in wonder.

“Course he is, looks just like you,” Katsuki replied, himself tired from helping Izuku through the last four hours.  At first taking his rest in the chair beside the bed, Izuku insisted (and then whined) until Katsuki joined him on the bed.

Occasionally a nurse would come in to check Izuku and the baby’s vitals, but they both knew what this time alone was meant to be.  Bonding time.  They knew this warranted a discussion, but neither wanted to break the bubble of contentment anytime soon.

“Do you have a name in mind?” Katsuki asked casually.  Izuku smiled, looking at his sleeping little green bean.

“Well, Ingen, of course.”

“What?!  You’re seriously going to name your kid Green Bean?”

Izuku laughed, true joy in his eyes as they looked at Katsuki.  “It was tempting at first, but no, that won’t be his name.  One always stood out while I was researching names.  Kazuki, meaning peace, harmony, and hope.  All things that he means to me.”

“It’s a great name, Deku,” Katsuki said, his throat tight with emotion at Izuku’s explanation.  If only he could also bring him peace and hope as well.

A knock on the door interrupted the soft moment, the two looking up to the nurse at the door.  “Sorry to intrude, but your family is wondering when they can meet the newest member?”  Katsuki immediately suspected his mother of getting impatient.

“Oh, of course,” Izuku said, sitting straighter in bed.  “Please, let them come in.”  He ignored the low rumble from Katsuki, who seemed to get closer to him in response.  Not that he minded.

Soon, everyone had been scent neutralized and entered the room, cooing at the little bundle in Izuku’s arms.  Congratulations were shared by all, Izuku exhausted but enjoying the close company.  Having so many people in his life that cared for him and his pup was a dream come true.  The sadness and fear he endured and fought to escape were tucked away in his past.  He had his Kazuki, he had his peace and hope.

He felt greedy when he and his omega wished to have Katsuki as their alpha and true mate.  The man had been his support, his safety since he called him in desperation months ago.  Was it too much to ask to have him in his life, too?

Masaru noticed Izuku’s fatigue and started ushering everyone out, promising to return after he was well rested.  Katsuki looked at him, silently asking if he wanted him to go as well.  He could be a little greedy right now, Izuku decided as he nodded his wish for Katsuki to stay.

“Wow, that was exhausting, how are you still awake, Deku?”

“I didn’t want to miss any of this, Kacchan.  I can’t remember the last time I’ve felt so happy and loved.  Thank you for making all of this possible.”

“I Plus Ultra swore to get you through whatever trouble you were in when I found you that night, Izuku.  Now the thing is, I don’t wanna stop helping you.  I mean, I know you’re capable of doing this shit yourself, but I just, you know… Want to be by your side, if you want that.”

Katsuki felt like he screwed that all up.  Did he get what he wanted to say out the right way?  Was this even the right time to mention it?  He nearly started to apologize when Izuku’s arms wrapped around his neck, the omega hugging him close.

“C-Can you say it again, Kacchan?  I just want to make sure I didn’t just fall asleep and dream about what I heard.”

Izuku’s fingers gripped the fabric of his shirt, desperately.  “I, well, I want to take care of you and Kazuki.  If you want me to be, I want to stay by your side.”

He almost continued with ‘once I’ve officially divorced Uraraka’, but he didn’t want to bring her up during this moment.  She was soon going to be a mistake of his past, with no business in his present or future with Izuku.

“Please, stay with me, Kacchan.  Nothing would make me happier,” Izuku said as he relaxed his grip, exhaustion finally catching up to him as he drifted off to sleep in Katsuki’s arms.  The nurse came in and settled Kazuki in his mobile bassinet, informing Katsuki that he’d be in the nursery with the other newborns to allow Izuku time to sleep.

It was the first night in a while that either of them had a truly restful sleep.

“Hello, is this Inasa Yoarashi?” the feminine voice asked as Inasa answered with a gruff “What?”

“Yeah, what’s this about?” Inasa looked at the screen and saw the caller ID showed a hospital number.

The woman on the line continued, “We have an Izuku Midoriya in our care here.  He went into labor tonight, but unfortunately the pup didn’t make it.  His medical records listed you as his mate and emergency contact.”

“What pup?” asked Inasa, his voice growing louder.

“Oh, my apologies, he must not have told you of his condition.  But he’s currently in the delivery ward and I thought it important for him to have support during this difficult time.”

Several loud crashing noises answered her as Inasa came back on the line.  “I’ll be right there,” he replied with hatred in his voice as he hung up.

Smiling as she hung up the phone at the unoccupied hospital reception desk, Uraraka walked away, ready to finish what she started and make her family whole.

Chapter Text

Daylight illuminated the edges of the blinds in Izuku’s hospital room, the new dam still sleeping peacefully as Katsuki woke up to the nurse stepping in for another vitals check.  He watched carefully, his eyes focused on everything done to Izuku until the nurse nodded her head to let him know Izuku was fine before leaving them alone.

Katsuki turned his attention to Izuku, taking in his relaxed expression as he softly snored beside him.  He grinned as Izuku’s lips made cute little movements as he slept, muttering away even in his dreams from what Katsuki guessed.

No longer able to ignore his need for the bathroom, Katsuki gave the sleeping omega a gentle tap on his nose, “be right back, Izuku.”  He was reluctant, but eventually left the bed without waking him.  Wanting to spend the least amount of time away from Izuku as possible, Katsuki decided to get some food and coffee for them while he was out.

Once he relieved himself, Katsuki started to look for the hospital’s cafeteria and saw a sign for the nursery along the way.  His alpha urged him to go that way, a primal need to see Izuku’s pup again pushing him to go there.  He found the viewing windows that looked into the room, the hall empty due to the early hour.  Peering in, he looked over each baby quickly before his eyes settled on Kazuki’s distinct hair color.

Much like his dam, Kazuki was sleeping with his little mitten-covered hands curling and twitching every so often.  Katsuki leaned against the glass, forehead pressed close to watch the pup as his chest grew warmer.  And when little Kazuki’s lip started to quiver just like Izukus, Katsuki felt his eyes grow wet, seeing first-hand how similar the two people he cared for most really were.

“Just two little green beans in a pod, aren’t you guys?” Katsuki softly said to himself, “I’m going to do everything I can to take care of you both, got that, squirt?  Plus Ultra swear.”

Little green eyes opened, as though Kazuki heard what Katsuki said.  The little pup was just as calm and gentle as Izuku, looking around with wonder at the new world around him.  His clothed hand did what Katsuki considered a wave toward him before rubbing at his face and dozing off again.

Taking that as his cue to continue his quest for food and drinks, Katsuki lightly tapped the glass as he leaned back, looking forward to seeing the pup when he returned to their room.

“What pup?”

“Oh, my apologies, he must not have told you of his condition.  But he’s currently in the delivery ward and I thought it important for him to have support during this difficult time.”

Inasa sent the table he’d been sitting at flying, soon followed by the crashing of the chairs as he heard what the nurse told him.  His omega, his disobedient, missing omega, was pupped and at some hospital?  Of course the news was a shock to him, his anger stoked once again into a raging fire as he destroyed more of his belongings before he told the nurse he’d be there.

“He’s gone too far, I can’t allow him to shame me any further,” Inasa growled as he looked up the hospital’s address and learned it wasn’t nearby.  Hurriedly gathering his things, he left the door to his apartment ajar and ran to the nearest subway entrance.  The quickest way to get there would be by train, and even that would take time.

The day Izuku left, Inasa had been assigned to take the lead for the next deal his company was undertaking.  Which meant that any hint of weakness or scandal on his part would potentially cause the entire deal to fall through.  And even with the notable connections that kept him out of trouble in the past, having it get out that his omega had disgraced him by running away was something Inasa couldn’t risk.

So he did his own searching quietly, but had no luck in finding any hints to Izuku’s whereabouts.  He’d checked the obvious places, Izuku’s mom, that annoying Todoroki beta who wouldn’t stop hanging around his omega, and even checked in with their university on the chance that he would have gone to a former teacher.

Months went by with Inasa growing steadily more irate while acting like the assertive, calm, and collected alpha his company expected him to be to close this business deal.  And he was in the home stretch of the proceedings, with both companies ready to finalize a contract.

But now he knew where Izuku was.  And his alpha demanded that he pay for leaving.  He’d been too lenient with his omega before, but once he’s back where he belonged, that will change.

Stirring in the hospital bed, Izuku stretched his arms in both directions, expecting to feel Katsuki still next to him but coming up empty.  “Kacchan?” he asked quietly, carefully sitting up in the bed to get a look around.  Finding himself alone, he laid down and thought about the events of the last day.

Kazuki was finally here, and was everything Izuku dreamed his pup would be and more.  Even Katsuki was there with him through his delivery, giving him the comfort and support he needed, especially after Uraraka’s surprise visit during the baby shower.

“There’s no way she’ll take him,” Izuku said to himself, hoping to speak it into reality.  He wasn’t sure how to get past her claim that the papers named her as Kazuki’s parent, but after holding him in his arms, Izuku knew there’s nothing that would keep him from his pup.

The door opened, letting in light from the hallway, only showing a silhouette of the person standing there.  Izuku squinted his eyes to adjust to the sudden brightness in the room, “Kacchan, is that you?”

A familiar scent that he hadn’t been around in months filled the room, like a thick, murky fog.  Izuku’s breath caught in his throat as his hand came up to cover his mouth and nose.  He panicked as he realized that Katsuki wasn’t in the room.

“Is that the name of the stupid mutt you let pup you after you abandoned me?” Inasa said, his voice echoing off the walls in the small room as the door behind him closed, putting them back in subtle darkness.  “You’ve had your fun embarrassing me, but that all ends now,” Inasa growled as he loomed over Izuku’s bed.

“N-No, I can’t go back to that place!  It was a prison!” Izuku cried out, stressing himself as he slid away from Inasa, falling off the bed and hitting the floor hard on his hip.  Tangled up in his bedsheets, Izuku tried to slide away, though some of his stitches popped, the sheets starting to stain red the more he struggled.

Out of patience, Inasa caught Izuku by the sheets, wrapping them around him to further restrict his movement.  “You’re my omega, you’ll go wherever I say you can go.  I was far too lenient with you, Izuku.  But I won’t be making that mistake again,” Inasa said as he yanked the sheet holding Izuku up and started to drag him out of the room under his massive arm.

“Excuse me, sir–” a nurse tried to interrupt as they saw the furious alpha carry away their patient, bleeding, away toward the elevator.  “Quick, call security!” the nurse said to the others at their desks.

“Security?” Katsuki said as he turned the corner to the hall with Izuku’s room and saw the nightmare of a scene himself, dropping the bag of food and coffee cups in his hands.  Izuku’s former alpha was at the end of the hall, waiting for the elevator and holding a frightened and bleeding Izuku captive.  “Inasa!  You son of a bitch, let him go!”

The elevator opened, and Inasa dragged Izuku inside immediately.  Katsuki ran with all he had to catch them before the door closed, but from one of the side halls, Uraraka appeared, holding what appeared to be a brand new diaper bag.  “Katsuki, I’m so glad you’re here, we can go pick up our baby together now!”

“Are you fucking insane?  Get out of my way, damnit!” Katsuki yelled as he shouldered Uraraka out of the way to continue to the elevator.  The interruption allowed Inasa enough time to get the doors to close, the two disappearing behind the metal doors.  “Shit!”

“Now isn’t the time to worry about your stray, Katsuki.  Think about how happy we’ll be once we bring home the newest addition to our family!” Uraraka said, her expression showing no deception or doubt.  She legitimately believed that they would be able to walk out with Izuku’s pup unhindered.

Watching the numbers for the elevator go slowly down to the ground floor, Katsuki hesitated.  Should he go after Inasa and save Izuku, or stay with Kazuki and keep Uraraka away from him?

He saw the fear on Izuku’s face as the doors closed between them and left Uraraka alone to pursue them.  At the moment, Inasa was the more immediate threat, an aggressive alpha was unpredictable and more likely to hurt others.  Checking what floor the elevator was on, Katsuki slammed into the door to the stairwell, clearing multiple steps on his way down.

“Hey, it’s Katsuki,” he said as he called into his station.  “I have a hostage situation at the memorial hospital and need some fucking backup!  Yeah, an alpha kidnapped an omega patient that just had a pup and appears injured.  They’re in the elevator on the west side of the building, I’m trying to beat them down the stairs.”

After confirming backup was on the way, Katsuki put away his phone and opened the door to the first floor, chest heaving for air as he approached the elevator.  He tensed up, ready for a confrontation when the doors opened to reveal it was empty.

“Shit!” Katsuki yelled, turning back to the stairs and going up to the second floor, rushing out to check the area.  The doors he tried were all locked, mostly storage, with the only notable feature for the floor the outdoor Serenity Garden at the end of the East Hall.

He followed the signs to the garden, and caught Inasa tugging Izuku through the doors that led out to the rooftop garden area.  “Inasa, I got my whole fucking police station on their way to this hospital right now.  This is a dead end and you’re not getting past me.  So let Deku go and stand down!”

“Ha!  You think I’m just going to let MY omega go after all he’s done to shame me?!  No, he’s returning with me, his alpha, and he’ll learn his lesson on how to act like a proper omega.”

“Then you’re a shitty excuse for an alpha,” Katsuki said, carefully advancing now that he had Inasa against the low brick wall at the edge of the garden.  “I know how poorly you treated Izuku, not to mention all the crimes you committed against helpless omegas and got away with way before you met him.  To be honest, I’ve been waiting for a reason to arrest your ass since Izuku told me what you’d done to him.”

Closing in on the two, Katsuki could hear the police sirens just over the ledge, gathering in front of the hospital.  Inasa looked over the wall, confirming that Katsuki wasn’t bluffing about backup.  “See, that’s one of the things Izuku needs to be punished for,” Inasa said as he pushed Izuku over the edge of the brick wall, holding him by the sheet wrapped around his waist.  “A well behaved omega doesn’t speak unless his alpha tells him he can.”

“Izuku!” yelled Katsuki, holding his arms up in surrender, “Hey, pull him back onto the roof now!  He’s fucking scared, and you’re supposed to be his alpha?!”  Voices yelled from the ground below as police and bystanders saw Izuku hanging over the edge of the building.

“You’re awfully defensive of my omega, what, were you the sire of Izuku’s dead pup or something?” Inasa asked, recalling what the nurse had said over the phone.

Izuku heard Inasa’s words and started to panic.  Had Inasa found out about Kazuki and killed him?  No, he had to get back to his pup and make sure he was alright.  “No, not Kazuki!” Izuku shouted through tears as he struggled to free himself of the tangled sheets.

“Deku, wait, don’t move!” Katsuki yelled, seeing the sheet start to tear against the rough brick wall.  Ignoring Inasa, he rushed to grab Izuku, his fingertips grazed the sheet as it finally tore and sent the omega falling to the ground.

“Izuku!!” Katsuki called out desperately as he watched him land among the bushes and shrubbery bordering the hospital.  The police quickly surrounded him, taking action to help Izuku.  Inasa took advantage of the distraction and charged into Katsuki, crushing him against the wall, his breath forced out with a sharp wheeze.

Recovering from the surprise attack, Katsuki focused his attention on the snarling alpha in front of him.  “You’re pathetic, you know that, Inasa?  Talking about proper omegas when you ain’t even a decent alpha!”

“Speak for yourself, letting him walk all over you,” Inasa answered, sweeping Katsuki’s legs, taking him to the ground and pinning him on his back.  “It’s sickening, Izuku’s scent is all over you.  I gave him everything and he disrespected me and left, the disgusting slut of an omega,” Inasa said in a near-whisper to Katsuki’s ear.

Rage surged through Katsuki at the insult, his alpha furious over Inasa slighting his omega.  No longer holding it back, Katsuki’s alpha took over, fangs bared and dripping wet.  Drawing his knees toward him, he kicked Inasa off him, quickly stalking the other alpha and slashed his calves with fierce clawed hands.

“Wait, you can’t do this!  You’re a cop, aren’t you?  Someone get this monster away from me!” Inasa yelled as he collapsed to the floor, the injuries to his legs preventing him from moving anywhere fast.  Katsuki loomed over him, hunched with a glare in his crimson eyes, looking every bit like the monster Inasa saw him to be.

“Stay away from Izuku, shitty alpha,” Katsuki growled out before charging him again.  Easily overpowering him now that Inasa’s powerful legs were rendered useless, Katsuki crouched down on the wounded man’s back and lunged for his mating gland, tearing into it with his teeth as Inasa howled in pain.

“Katsuki, hey, it’s time to stand down!” one of the officers from Katsuki’s department yelled out as his backup swarmed into the rooftop garden.  “I think he may be feral, what should we do, Kirishima?”

The large, red-haired alpha held up a hand to let the officer know he was dealing with the problem.  Stepping closer to him, Kirishima started to talk slow and calm to the fierce blonde.  “Hey, Kats, that’s enough, he’s subdued.  You got him, just like you said you would eventually, right?  Let us handle the rest.  You should go to Midoriya, he needs you now.”

Katsuki unclenched his jaw from Inasa’s neck, leaving his gland shredded with little hope of saving it.  His alpha whined with desire to finish the job, but Katsuki pushed the beast back until he was in control of himself again.  His partner was right, he had to get back to Izuku and fast, there was no telling how badly the fall had hurt the already weak and recovering omega.

“Thanks, Kiri,” he said as he did his best to wipe his face clean with the torn remnants of bedsheets and backed away from a groaning Inasa while the other officers approached to restrain him.

“No problem, bro!  Gotta make sure that guy is safe, we’re still looking forward to working with him at the station!”  Kirishima was one of a few officers that knew about Katsuki seeking Izuku’s help with their cases.  And one of the first to suggest offering the clever omega a job.  Nodding his head, Katsuki rushed away to track down Izuku.

Kirishima watched him go before turning his attention to Inasa.  The man had been cuffed and hospital employees were preparing to load him onto a stretcher for treatment.  Having been there when Katsuki looked up Inasa’s information, he was aware of his history of omega abuse.  Seeing the man’s mating gland destroyed gave Kirishima a sick feeling of justice.

An alpha that loses his mating gland can hardly be considered an alpha at all.

It was only necessary to follow the yelling and the sounds of police radios and sirens for Katsuki to find where Izuku was once he got to the first floor.  They had just gotten him on a bed and pushed into the nearest room when Katsuki joined them.  “What’s going on, how is he?”

“My pup, my Kazuki, I need to go to him,” Izuku said weakly, lying on his side as nurses tended to the large cut along the right side of his face.  Another nurse was sliding a brace onto his left leg, the severe bruising hinting at a broken bone.

The nearest doctor answered Katsuki’s question, “We’re taking care of the injuries he sustained from the fall, as well as repairing the torn stitches from his delivery.  What we have to do most importantly right now is prevent a drop.  He’s highly stressed and in his condition, a drop could be fatal.  Keeping him calm is the best way to prevent that.”

Katsuki thanked the doctor and got closer to Izuku.  “Hey, everything is okay, alright?  Kazuki is fine, nothing happened to him.  Little guy was sleeping the last time I went by the nursery window, so don’t worry.”

Izuku’s distant stare slowly turned to him looking at Katsuki, fearful green eyes begged him for help before he said the words.  “Kacchan, keep him safe.  Please, don’t let me lose him!”  His small hand gripped Katsuki’s, shaking as Izuku urged him to protect his newborn pup.

“Katsuki!  Izuku!” Mitsuki called out from the entrance of the room.  Katsuki turned to see his parents standing there, holding a fluffy teddy bear and flowers, the balloons drifted out of Masaru’s hand and came to rest against the fluorescent lights along the ceiling.

Wasting little time, Katsuki waved them into the room, not caring whether they were allowed to be there or not.  Once he’d explained the situation, Mitsuki grabbed Katsuki’s arm and turned him toward the door, nudging him forward.  “We’ll stay here with him, you get your ass moving and go to his pup!  He asked you to protect him, now go keep him safe!  Bring him here, it’ll help keep poor Izuku from dropping if he can see his child is safe and sound.  Go!”

He didn’t even bother yelling back at his mom, taking another look at Izuku and running off again to bring Kazuki back to him.  Deciding not to wait for the elevator, he returned to the stairwell and rushed up to the nursery floor.  Winded from the climb, Katsuki stumbled over to the nursery room and found several of the infant nurses meeting him with fearful looks.

Taking a look at himself, Katsuki saw the drying blood on his hands and arms from his fight with Inasa.  “Shit, sorry, I know I look awful, but it’s really important that I see Kazuki Midoriya.”

One of the nurses stepped forward, settling her nerves to a more professional nature.  “Baby Midoriya is with his dam right now, who are you and why are you requesting to see him?”

“His dam?  You’ve got to be mixing up pups, Kazuki’s dam is on the first floor right now close to a damn drop unless he can see his pup is fine.  Now where the fuck is Kazuki?”

“The woman showed me papers naming her as Kazuki’s dam. I saw her earlier when I started my shift. She stopped to talk to you before you rushed off.  She told me you were married and ready to bring your baby home, so I–”

Katsuki fell to his knees as he pulled at his hair, frustrated.  He’d left Uraraka alone to save Izuku, and left little Kazuki helpless.  His breathing grew uneven, faster as he tried to figure out what he could have done differently to keep them both safe.  It was such an impossible choice, and now he had to deal with the consequences.

He took several deep breaths and rose to his feet, the nurses frozen around him watching carefully for any sign of danger.  Katsuki raised his hands up to show that he was calm.  “That woman, Uraraka, and I were married, but I filed for divorce.  She obtained that parental rights paper deceptively and illegally.  It’s very possible she’d try to take the pup and leave, so please, please, tell me where they are.”

“I-I had no idea the papers weren’t genuine, I’m so very sorry,” the nurse said as she bowed deeply to Katsuki.  “I’ll take you to the room, follow me.”  She quickly turned toward the nursery with Katsuki right behind.

Opening the door revealed an empty room, something Katsuki deep down had expected with an ice-cold dread.

Chapter Text

“She was just in here, I swear!” the nurse cried out while Katsuki quickly stepped in to confirm no one was inside.  He could tell Uraraka had been in the room by her lingering scent, as well as Kazuki’s.  There was a sourness to the new milk smell in the air, tainted with distress that put Katsuki even more on-edge.

Getting out his phone, he called Kirishima.  “Kiri, my ex-wife took off with Deku's kid, please tell me you've got eyes on the exits.”

“Shit, we’ve only covered the entrance so far, I'll call for a lockdown and sweep the hospital,” Kirishima said, using his radio to call in the orders to the other officers while Katsuki was still on the line.

Thinking back to his brief encounter with Uraraka, Katsuki recalled the diaper bag she’d been carrying.  When had she gotten something like that?  It looked brand-new, so it must have been recently.  He hadn’t seen Uraraka since their last argument, so she could have picked up some things without him knowing.

Wait.  The few times he’d gone back to their house, there had been packages delivered in her name.  Had she been gathering baby supplies while he wasn’t paying attention?  After seeing who the woman he married really was and what she was capable of, Katsuki wouldn’t put it past her to do so.

“Now isn’t the time to worry about your stray, Katsuki.  Think about how happy we’ll be once we bring home the newest addition to our family!”

“Shit!” Katsuki yelled, startling Kirishima who was still on the phone.  “Hey, I need a car.  Kirishima, her plan was to take the baby home all along!  She fucking told me and I didn’t pay attention, too focused on getting Deku back.”  He started down the stairs once again, not trusting the elevator to get him to the ground floor any faster than he could himself.

Pain hit him like a lightning bolt to his lower back, stumbling down the last few steps.  Katsuki carefully rose to his feet, feeling a throbbing ache where Inasa had smashed into him after Izuku fell from the building.  Taking a cleansing breath, he ignored his back and stepped out of the stairwell.

Kirishima waited for him at the front entrance, holding out a set of car keys which Katsuki grabbed as his partner walked with him to the car.  “You need to wait for backup, Kats!  She’s already proven she’s crazy and there’s a newborn pup involved.  You haven’t even been checked out after that fight with Inasa!  At least give me time to round up some people to have your back–”

“I’m not failing them again, Kirishima,” Katsuki said calmly, though there was an inferno raging in his eyes.  The other alpha knew at that point saying anything more was pointless.  Kirishima nodded as Katsuki ducked into the car and sped off, then picked up his radio.  He wasn’t going to let his best friend face that woman without some support on the way.

It was fortunate that Katsuki had taken a police car to get back to his house.  He surely would have had other cops attempt to pull him over for all the laws he was breaking as he drove to find Uraraka and Kazuki.  He killed the sirens but left the lights flashing as he pulled up to his house.  Wasting no time, he found the door wasn’t even closed as he walked in.

The shrill cry of a baby welcomed him home and he was relieved that he’d been right to where she’d taken Kazuki.  Some of the boxes that had been delivered were slashed open impatiently, with random baby supplies lying abandoned on the floor.

Katsuki called Kirishima to confirm Uraraka’s location before hanging up on him.  Cautiously, he went toward the crying and found them in what had been Izuku’s room.

“Come on, you aren’t supposed to cry for me!  I’m your momma now,” Uraraka said, her own stressed scent making the pup cry even more.  She looked around the room, desperate for something to soothe Kazuki.  Katsuki slowly walked in, making her aware of his arrival by easing his hands up in a pose she wouldn’t consider threatening.

The last thing he wanted to do was cause Uraraka to go over the edge and lash out and harm Kazuki.  “You know this wasn’t the right way to do this, Ochako,” Katsuki said calmly.  “But you can fix it, you just have to give me back the pup.”

“No!” Uraraka said, clutching the screaming baby against her chest, muffling his voice slightly.  “This is what we always wanted, what we needed!  He’ll settle down and be a good boy for us, I know it!”  She shrieked out her words, her nerves unraveling the longer Kazuki cried.

Katsuki stepped closer, wary of her reaction as he released his calming alpha pheromones to calm both her and Kazuki down.  As they settled, he got closer, nearly close enough to grab Kazuki.  Uraraka looked at him, her body settling as her omega relaxed to his scent.

It had been months since he’d last scented her, she realized, but she was assured now that things were working the way she’d planned.  There would be no divorce after all!  “See?  He settled right down once his daddy came home.  We were meant to be a family, everything is perfect now!”

Feeling her body grow lax against him, Katsuki took the chance to take Kazuki out of her arms.  As he reached his arms out, another shock of pain went through him as he gasped.  Realizing his plan, Uraraka pulled away from Katsuki, kicking out at him, unknowingly zeroing in on his injured back as he collapsed to the floor.

“OMEGA!” a voice yelled out from the main room that stole their attention away from each other.  Katsuki found familiarity in the voice, but had never heard it sound so rough and terrifying before.  Before he could even say his name, Izuku entered the room, his head loosely wrapped in a bloodied bandage.

Izuku looked nothing at all like he had when Katsuki had left him with his parents at the hospital.  No longer in danger of a drop, it was obvious that he’d turned feral.  Emerald eyes were narrowed and slit, focused solely on the omega that dared to steal his pup.  His feet were bare and bloodied, just as they were the night Katsuki found him.  Even with an injured leg, Izuku had run here, a feral dam intent on protecting his pup.

“You!  I called that alpha to get rid of you!  All you were good for was carrying our pup then getting out of our lives!” Uraraka yelled out, scaring Kazuki into tears once more.  While she was focused on Izuku, Katsuki crept up and took the pup out of her arms just before Izuku launched himself claws out at Uraraka, taking them both to the ground.

The two omegas thrashed about on the floor, scratching and clawing at each other.  Izuku finally pinned Uraraka on her back and loomed over her, waiting for one more wrong move on her part to tear out her throat.  She looked around for a way to get out of her predicament, her hand searching for anything she could use as a weapon.

When she felt sturdy plastic against her fingers, she grabbed it and swung at the wound on Izuku’s head, sending him stumbling back with a shocked cry.  Dropping the alarm clock that had fallen off the nightstand, Uraraka stood and looked at Katsuki, holding Kazuki and looking concerned not for her, but Izuku behind her.  “No!  This was supposed to be our family!  It’s what you wanted, Katsuki!  I gave you what you wanted!”

“Stealing a pup isn’t what I’d want!” Katsuki answered back, protectively covering Kazuki against her crazed screaming.  “Just admit that it’s over, we’ll never be the family you’re obsessing over!”  Rage coursed through Uraraka’s veins at Katsuki’s declaration, her refusal to give up resolute as she lunged toward Katsuki, shrieking hysterically.

Backed against the wall, Katsuki could only turn his back to shield Kazuki from the impending attack, when Izuku leapt forward and grabbed a chunk of Uraraka’s brown hair and yanked her back to the other side of the room.  Blood was streaming down his face again from where Uraraka struck him, but he only focused on her.

Terror began to run through her as she tried to crawl away from the approaching feral omega, finding her own back against the wall as he loomed over her once more.  Izuku bared his teeth to her, emerald eyes bright as lightning as he growled out his warning.

“My family.  My pup!  MY alpha!  Kacchan is MINE!”

Seeing Uraraka had no more will to fight, Katsuki approached Izuku, carefully scenting his wrist to calm him down.  “Hey, Izuku, Kazuki’s okay you see?  We’re done here so let’s just take him and go.  You need to see the doctors, okay?”

Katsuki couldn’t have been more grateful for the arrival of Kirishima and his backup, as well as Shouto with his parents right behind.  While the police worked to secure the scene, everyone else was easing Izuku out of his feral state.  It wasn’t until Katsuki had returned Kazuki into his arms that Izuku finally relaxed and comforted his pup.  “My pup, my baby, no one will ever take you from me again,” he cried into the blanket Kazuki was wrapped in.

“Hey, sorry for intruding, but we’re going to need to talk to you about what happened, Kats,” Kirishima said sheepishly to the crowd around him and Izuku, who growled softly as Katsuki stepped away from him.  Shouto nodded to Katsuki and took over watching Izuku and keeping him calm.

As the two officers stepped away, Katsuki saw Uraraka restrained and being led out of their house.  He could hear her muttering frantically about how ‘no stray will take what’s hers.’  Kirishima noticed his attention on her and spoke. “We've got her in custody now, as well as Inasa back at the hospital.  All that’s left is a statement on what went down here before we showed up, then we can get all the appropriate charges filed for them.”

By the time Katsuki finished giving his recorded statement, the Bakugous had finally convinced Izuku to let the ambulance take him and Kazuki back to the hospital.  It didn’t take Mitsuki long to see how beat up Katsuki looked to tell him to get his ass in there with them.  He didn’t need any convincing as he eased himself onto the bench beside the stretcher carrying Izuku and his pup.

“Not over there, Kacchan, here,” Izuku said, making the effort to slide over and pat the open space with the arm that wasn’t holding Kazuki.  “With us.”  He wasted no time joining their little huddle as they went back to the hospital together.

Chapter Text

Katsuki woke up slowly and turned over to find the other side of the bed empty. Frowning at the missed cuddling opportunity, he slipped out from under the warm covers and stepped into the en suite bathroom to relieve himself. As he went over to the dresser to slip into his casual clothes, Katsuki paused to look at the framed picture of himself with Izuku and Kazuki.

It had been taken a month after the incident at the hospital. Izuku had been given a clean bill of health, though he’d still have a small scar on his forehead from the ordeal. Mitsuki and Masaru had taken them all out for dinner, and after they’d eaten, Izuku asked to speak to Katsuki in private.

Leaving Kazuki with his parents, Katsuki followed Izuku to the restaurant’s entrance, where the omega turned to face him, his expression nervous. “What is it, Izuku?”

“Kacchan, I know things have been kind of crazy over the last few weeks. Or months, really. But if there was one thing that I could count on, it was that I knew I could trust you. This is something I’m worried about, and you can say no if you want. I’m sure once the trial is over, I won’t have to worry about Inasa coming after me again. But it would make me feel a lot safer if you would allow me to name you as Kazuki’s sire on his birth record. Like I said, it’s totally up to you–”

A gentle finger pressed against Izuku’s lips, Katsuki hushing his words with a grin. “Slow it down, Deku, I’ll do it. But I don’t just want to be his sire on some piece of paper. I want to be his father, and one day when you are ready, I’d like to court you and do all this shit the right way so I can properly call you my omega and Kazuki my pup.”

Izuku pulled Katsuki’s finger away from his face and slid their hands together, face flushed as he leaned his cheek against the back of Katsuki’s hand. “As much as I appreciate you wanting to take your time with me, Kacchan, do we really need to wait longer when we both know what we want?”

“Heh, I suppose you’re right, Izuku,” Katsuki said as he maneuvered his arms around Izuku’s shoulders and leaned in until their foreheads touched. “You’re the one for me, and I’ll make sure you and the little squirt know it.”

“Since you’ve finally got your shit together, Katsuki,” Mitsuki said, startling the two out of their dreamy moment. “Take your kid so we can get a picture of you and your family.” Izuku blushed a deep red as Kazuki was passed to Katsuki, Masaru patting the two on their shoulders with a smile before backing up to let Mitsuki take the picture.

Katsuki smiled at the memory, slipping into his clothes before leaving the room to find the two loves of his life in the living room. Izuku was sitting on the couch with a hot mug of tea beside him while Kazuki, nearly a year old, sat on his own in the middle of the floor, surrounded by soft, fluffy toys. As soon as he saw Katsuki, Kazuki started waving around the oversized building block that was in his hand, cooing with joy as his ‘Papa’ joined them.

“Good morning, Kacchan,” Izuku said as he stretched in his spot on the couch, setting the police file he’d been looking through down at his side. Katsuki bent down to tickle under Kazuki’s outstretched arms, sending him into a giggling fit, before creeping over to the couch to lean down and give Izuku a kiss.

“Morning. I’ll get started on breakfast, you want coffee?” he asked as he kissed Izuku again, earning a “mmm-hmm” from him as an answer. After ruffling the fluffy curls of green and brown hair on Kazuki’s head, Katsuki stepped into the kitchen and made his family breakfast.

Later, while Kazuki was down for his nap, Katsuki and Izuku worked on some cases that they’d brought home. The promise of work with his department was held up, with Izuku going into the job head-first, thrilled to be a part of investigations and provide valuable analysis that helped to catch and keep criminals off the streets.

“I heard they moved him to a prison in the west,” Izuku said, eyeing Katsuki casually. “That doesn’t happen unless it’s requested. Any idea who could have done that, Kacchan?”

He was referring to Inasa, of course. During the trial, Inasa had learned that Izuku’s child was alive, but never found out that he was the sire. Even if he did suspect Kazuki was his, the former alpha had his own problems to deal with after being found guilty of all his crimes. Prisoners didn’t take too kindly to omega abusers, and with the trial being publicized, everyone knew Inasa and what he’d done.

With the damage to his gland reducing him to the equivalent of a beta, there was little Inasa could do to defend himself. Katsuki had made sure of that. “Oh really? Good, the further that shithead is from us, the better. If only we were so lucky with the other one.”

Katsuki got his divorce from Uraraka soon after she was arrested, her own trial ended with her being found guilty of kidnapping, child endangerment, forgery, and tampering with legal documents. Her lawyers managed to convince the judge that she was mentally unstable, so rather than prison, she was sent to a secured mental health facility.

The last Katsuki heard about his ex-wife was that she spent most of her days drawing pictures of what she called her ‘perfect family.’ In them, she’d name the jaggedly drawn people ‘Momma’, ‘Daddy’, and ‘Little Spark.’ Every resident and attendant in her ward was familiar with her ‘family’ since she’d stop them and ramble on about whatever new scenario she’d imagine for them.

Once she was done, she’d tell whoever was still listening that her family would be visiting her that day. She spent every day expecting something that would never happen. She relived the hurt and betrayal daily when the family she fought so hard to bring together would never show up to take her home.

“Kacchan,” Izuku said as he playfully smirked at his husband. “We should take a break from these cases and go to the park. I think we’d all enjoy some time outside on such a nice day.” Deciding for them, Izuku grabbed both folders and slid them further down their kitchen table before giving Katsuki a gentle kiss to his cheek.

With Kazuki dressed and walking on his own towards the door, Katsuki scooped him up and gave him a gentle scenting, relaying how proud he was of his son. Izuku was right behind them as they stepped out of the house. Izuku looked fondly at the two large picture frames hung where they could be seen whether people were coming or leaving.

The first was a large group photo from their wedding day, where Kazuki had first started to walk on his own, to the surprise of all who were attending. In the picture, Katsuki and Izuku are in the middle, both teary-eyed with their friends and family standing on either side of them. Little Kazuki was standing on wobbly feet, holding onto their pant legs with his tiny hands, turning to look back at the camera with a smile.

The second frame held a copy of their wedding vows, written in stylish calligraphy. Izuku had spent many nights working on the vows, finding it difficult to bring them to an end. It was Katsuki that added the ending. The vows were full of promises to love, protect, and support each other. And Katsuki reminded Izuku that it wasn’t a serious promise unless it ended in a ‘Plus Ultra’ swear.

Izuku smiled as he closed the door, the words at the bottom of their printed vows drawn out in graceful, flowing lines. ‘Plus Ultra’ swear.

Notes:

Thank you all for sticking with this story until the end! It's always nice to see a happy ending after so much hurt and hardship to characters you love. Do you think Inasa and Uraraka got what they each deserved in the end? For a while, I considered Katsuki and Izuku fighting them to the death, but thought that wouldn't be enough of a punishment for how long they'd been treating Izuku badly. Basically, death was too good for them, hehe.

I'll be working to finish more of my WIPs as the year goes on, so if you've started any of my unfinished stories, keep an eye out, because I may be going back to finish it soon! Thanks again!
