Chapter 1: Preface

Chapter Text

Welcome, Spectator.

This screenplay is based on the sketch ‘Main Character Syndrome’ by Foil Arms & Hog and includes their characters Steve and Gary. Physical resemblances to members of Foil Arms & Hog are deliberate. Resemblances to any other real people are coincidental.

The main character of this story is a gay man. The writer, however, is not.

The story is set in Dublin, Republic of Ireland. To date, the writer has only visited the city once and has a limited knowledge of the Northside and a virtually inexistent knowledge of the Southside suburbs. She nevertheless tried to include those unfamiliar areas with the help of her internet connection.

Any use of Irish or Dublin slang words and Hiberno-English expressions are shamefully lifted from the works of Foil Arms & Hog, different Irish TV shows, and other media and might not have been used correctly. The writer would like to apologise if that happens to be the case. She is also not a native English speaker.

The formatting of this screenplay is based on an array of hastily researched information off the internet. Despite her best 3am efforts, the writer might not have achieved complete consistency or accuracy. Stage directions are only included when they are vital for a scene.

Many thanks to Foil Arms & Hog for the inspiration and a massive thank you to Anna P. for cheering the writer on and offering some very solid advice.

Please, have a seat.
