Work Text:
Every year, the Port Mafia holds an important vote in the winter. The one who won received the honor of placing the star on the Port Mafia’s Christmas tree that resided in the lobby. Chuuya would be touched for being selected this year, except the reach was impossible.
Luck must have been on his side when he turned his head to see that no one was around for this embarrassing spectacle. He knew deep down that he needed a step ladder but had hoped that maybe he had a growth spurt last night. Chuuya even resorted to standing on his toes, and yet he only stood a few inches taller.
“Stupid fucking tree. Dumbass tradition,” he mumbled angrily as he accepted that he needed to use his ability or drag a chair over to step on. Just before he returned his heels to the ground to set the star down on a nearby table, his day took more of a nosedive.
The sound of a photo being taken echoed throughout the supposedly empty lobby. Chuuya whipped his head to the noise and saw his partner barely stifling his laugh with one hand as the other held up a phone.
“Delete that. Now!”
“But Chibi looks so cute,” Dazai whined with a smirk. “Surely you can let your boyfriend have a new photo for his lock screen?”
Chuuya ground his teeth as he tried not to crush the star in his hand.
“You’re not even scheduled to be here today…”
“And miss this sight?! Absolutely not,” he shoved his phone into his coat pocket as he strode over to his fuming boyfriend.
“I’m going to kick your ass if you don’t-” Chuuya yelled before a surprised yelp cut off his sentence. Dazai wasted no time in humiliating Chuuya. The teen had squatted between Chuuya’s legs and lifted him with his shoulders.
“What the hell are you doing?! Put me down!”
“Just shut up and put the star on the tree,” Dazai groaned in fake annoyance as he walked closer to the tree.
Chuuya tensed as he was slightly embarrassed to sit on Dazai’s broad shoulders. He would die on the spot if anyone witnessed this.
“Chuu, the star. Just let me help you, okay?” Dazai spoke softly as his thumb rubbed Chuuya’s lower thigh as a silent apology.
Chuuya frowned, but his heart rate slowed at the touch. He took a deep breath before leaning slightly to reach the top. “Drop me, and I’ll drop kick your ass.”
Dazai nodded in understanding as he laughed, “Noted. Don’t drop my slug lest you splat on the ground.”
Chuuya’s anger spiked again, but he decided to be the bigger person and only responded by knocking Dazai’s head with his fist. He ignored the pained whine as he finally reached the top of the tree. With a sigh of relief, he pushed the star down to stay in place. He leaned back to admire his work and smiled.
Dazai hummed in delight as he took in Chuuya’s work. He could tell the executive added some new decorations to the tree. Silver ornaments were dangling from the branches that were most definitely bought new. With amusement, he noted small snowman plushies sitting snuggled between branches.
“It looks good,” Dazai commented and quickly added before Chuuya could threaten him, “and I’m being sincere this time. You did good.”
Chuuya could only blush as he demanded Dazai to put him back down onto his feet. Once Dazai obliged, Chuuya turned to face away from him. Dazai grinned as he took a step forward and wrapped his arms around the other’s slim waist.
“Let’s go. We have a movie to watch and popcorn to consume,” Dazai whispered as he leaned over slightly to peck a kiss on his boyfriend’s flushed cheek.
Chuuya hummed in acknowledgment and quickly stepped away from the embrace.
Dazai wondered if he went too far with the photo and the star. But it didn’t last long as Chuuya intertwined their hands and pulled him along as he walked to the front door. Dazai grinned in victory as he walked next to him and shortened his strides to match Chuuya’s.
They walked in comfortable silence to Chuuya’s apartment. Once it was in view, Chuuya took a deep breath and looked up at Dazai, “Thank you... for your help.”
Dazai gave him a charming but sincere smile that was only reserved for the other.
"Anytime."
