Chapter 1: Vol. 1

Chapter Text

Pathos and Logos were a pair of tag-team superhero's. They fought to take down the villan Anxiety. That is, until Anxiety vanished.

Soon after, however, a new superhero joined their team. His name was Storm. Together, all three superheroes had to take down the evil Dragon-Witch.

But in this story, nothing is really as it seems...

~~Present day~~

Virgil flicked the zipper tab on his sleeve, wondering when his last class would be over. He noticed a flashing light inside his bag. His pager was going off! Virgil glanced at the clock.

Thirty more seconds!

The emo slowly began to move his binder to his bag, as were various other students.

"What are you doing?" The teacher asked, "we have thirty more seconds, bring your binders out. You're wasting precious time by packing up early."

Virgil rolled his eyes and put his pencil in his bag.

"Hold on, we stop have twenty three more seconds left of class." The teacher said, rambling on until the bell rang, "See, now you've wasted all that time. I hope you're happy."

Virgil sighed and quickly threw his binder into his bag, making his way to the door.

"Virgil, may I have a word?" The teacher asked.

The emo internally groaned and turned to face the teacher.

"Is everything alright at home?" The teacher asked.

Virgil nodded, surprised.

"Are you sure?" The teacher placed a hand on Virgil's shoulder, "cause you can always talk to me if you need to."

Virgil scrunched up his nose and shrugged the hand off his shoulder, nodding quickly and walking out of the classroom.

The emo boy shook his head, running to the nearest bathroom. He knew it wasn't the most optimal place to change into his costume, but he was in a hurry.

Virgil had just slid his mask onto his face when he got a text.

Dad - Storm! Where are you? We need your help!

Virgil quickly texted back.

Virge - omw got held up by a teach

Virgil grabbed his bag, running through the halls to the main entrance. He ignored the gasps and cheers of his fellow students as he ran to the fight.

"Hey kiddo!" Pathos greeted, "glad you're finally here, Logos needs a bit of help."

Storm nodded and ran towards the latest explosion.

"Wait Storm!" Pathos called, "be careful, it's the Dragon-Witch."

Storms eyes widened. He had never fought the Dragon-Witch before, Pathos always thought it was too dangerous for a sixteen year old who could control storms. Storm smiled and nodded.

"There you are," Logos said, "I was almost afraid you weren't going to come."

'Sorry' Storm signed with a small smile.

"It's quite alright Storm." Logos said.

Suddenly, fire erupted from their left, nearly burning Storm. Logos quickly pulled the boy back from the flames. Storms eyes went wide.

A large, dark, red and gold dragon emerged from around the corner. The Dragon-Witch had glowing, yellow eyes. It had an emblem of what looked like a castle scene in a two headed dragon branded onto it's wing.

Storm gasped softly. He knew that emblem, and the glowing eyes.

Storm tugged on Logos' arm.

"What?" Logos asked.

Storm pointed to the Dragon-Witch, then to himself and signed 'same'.

Another blast of fire. Logos grabbed Storm and rolled away.

"What do you mean 'same'?" Logos asked, once they were in a safer spot.

Storm bit his lip, pointing at his eyes, then the Dragon-Witch's wing. Logos seemed to get it.

"You think it's being controlled like you were?" Logos said.

Storm nodded.

Logos nodded, "Alright, I'll call Patho-"

"What are we doing?" Pathos asked.

Logos sighed, "The Dragon-Witch is being controlled, do you remember how we saved Anxiety?"

"Of course!" Pathos nodded.

"Alright." Logos said, "Storm, cloud cover."

Storm raised his hands and soon a thick fog rolled over the battlefield. Logos levitated himself and Pathos through the fog to the Dragon-Witch.

The beast scanned the fog, dipping it's head lower. That's when they attacked. Pathos and Logos shot up through the cloud cover and placed a hand on either side of the Dragon-Witch's head.

The Dragon-Witch screamed, it's eyes flickering from gold to deep hazel. It's eyes rolled back as it collapsed into the fog.

Storm dropped his hands, letting the fog disperse into rain. To his surprise, there was no Dragon-Witch laying on the ground. Instead, a boy about his age was passed out in the mud.

Storm reached the boy just after Pathos and Logos.

"Is he okay?" Logos asked.

Pathos' hand started glowing light blue as he waved it over the boys body.

He nodded, "he's okay, he just needs rest and food."

Logos nodded, "Alright, let's take him back home and wait for him to wake up."

Logos snapped and teleported them to their house. Pathos picked up the unconscious boy.

"I'm gonna take him to the guest room," Pathos said, "why don't you two get in some more comfortable clothes and when I'm done I can make us something to eat?"

Logos smiled, "no need Patt, I'll make something, you take care of him."

Pathos smiled and giggled, "okay."

When Pathos left, Logos turned to Storm.

"You did well today Virgil," he said, "I'm proud of you."

Virgil smirked and looked away. Logos patted his shoulder before making his way to his and Patton's room.

Virgil shook his head, heading up to his room. He took off his costume in favor of putting on some black and purple pajamas.

The boy went back downstairs to see Patton and Logan in the kitchen wearing onsies.

"Come on Logan! It's not that late! Plus we deserve some cookies." Patton pouted.

Logan sighed, "we haven't eaten dinner yet Patton."

Virgil smirked and grabbed a cookie, jumping up and sitting on the counter.

"Look! Virgil agrees with me!" Patton said.

Logan sighed again, seeing his defeat, "fine."

"Yay!" Patton cheered, grabbing a cookie for himself.

Roman woke up on something soft. Much softer than his bed. He opened his eyes and realised that he wasn't in his room.

The boy jumped up, ignoring the pounding in his head. Was he kidnapped? Is this some sort of strange prison?

Roman looked around the room, spotting a widow he could escape from. He rushed over to it, testing to see if it was locked. It was.

He heard a noise behind him. Roman whirled around, shooting fire at whatever it was.

A boy about his age dropped to the floor screaming, white blisters bubbling up all over his arm and up his neck.

Roman panicked as he frantically clawed at the window. He heard people running, then arms wrapped around his waist, dragging him away from the window.

"No!" Roman screamed, thrashing around, "Stop please I'm sorry! Don't hurt me!"

The arms dropped him and Roman scooted back until he hit the wall, covering his face with his arms.

"Hey, it's okay." A calm voice said, "we're not going to hurt you."

Roman looked up. Kneeling infront of him was a man with dark blue eyes and dark brown hair that was slicked back. He was wearing glasses and a unicorn onsie. Behind him, another man was holding the boy he burned, a soft blue light emmiting from his hands.

"What is your name?" The man in front of him asked.

"R-roman." He replied shakily.

The man smiled lightly, "Salutations Roman, my name is Logan, and over there is my husband Patton and our son Virgil."

"I-I'm sorry." Roman stammered, "f-for burning him. I-Is he okay?"

Logan nodded, "yes, he's alright. Patton has the ability to heal."

Roman sighed in relief, "good, I don't wanna hurt anyone else."

Logan looked at the boy with a sense of pity, "if you are feeling up for it, would you like to join us for dinner? We're having pizza."

Roman tilted his head, "what's pizza?"

"Well kiddo," Patton said, walking up with a fully healed Virgil, "why don't you join us and find out?"

Roman hesitated, but his hunger won out. He nodded, shakily standing. Logan reached out to support the boy, but stopped short when Roman flinched. The three of them lead Roman downstairs to the living room.  Virgil sat down on the couch, gesturing for Roman to sit next to him.

"Hey Virgil?" Roman asked as the adults when to get the pizza, "I'm sorry for burning you. I just got scared and-"

Virgil interrupted him with a hand on his arm. He gave Roman a small smile.

Roman relaxed a little, "so you forgive me?"

Virgil smiled a bit wider and nodded.

"Thanks Virge." Roman said.

"I have the pizza!" Patton announced as he walked into the living room, "dig in kiddos!"

Roman watched as Virgil, Logan and Patton all grabbed a slice and he gingerly took one himself. He took a small bite and his eyes lit up. Eventually he devoured the slice.

"Do you like it kiddo?" Patton giggled.

Roman blushed and nodded.

"You may have another if you would like." Logan said.

Patton nodded in agreement, "yep! Have as much as you want kiddo!"

"As much as I want?" Roman asked tentatively.

Virgil nodded, handing him another slice. Roman took it with a small smile.

"Thank you," he said, "for everything."
