Work Text:
Nixie nature was to enthrall humans to come into the water, where the creatures would devour their prey.
Yet a nixie was finding herself being tempted out of the water.
The human girl's voice was a siren song more powerful than her own - even amongst nixiekind, Lorelei's voice was unpleasant and her appearance ghastly. Except in the eyes and ears of this human, apparently.
She knew this human's name was Sylvia. That's the name that was always uttered when her friends would come back to pull her out of the water. At least two had tried to stab Lorelei with silver, but Sylvia had stopped them. For some reason, the girl was attached to this nixie.
Maybe for the same reason that Lorelei drove every other nixie out of this river whenever Sylvia was spotted. Why she would tow them away if they caught sight of Sylvia and began their enchanted singing. She hated the thought of another nixie pulling her under and spilling her blood. She tried to tell herself it was because of how desperately she wanted to be the one to do it.
And yet, the fluttering song of Sylvia's was drawing Lorelei to the shore. With her aquatic body, she could only go so far onto the ground before she'd be in trouble. But she felt whole-heartedly that if Sylvia gestured for her, she would hop all the way into the land and beach herself - she would be drawn into a city where every person around would try to stab, slash, and flay her. This self-awareness did nothing to make her stop.
Even if Sylvia's ultimate goal was to bait, trap, and even outright kill her... Lorelei would blissfully accept that fate, as long as she could hear that beautiful voice the entire time and keep up the staring match with those glossy eyes.
