Nico Minoru Likes Girls: A Drabble Collection

Summary:

Five takes on Nico Minoru in same-gender relationships in the Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man canon, starting with the woman she has actually expressed interest in and getting a little more out-there with every chapter.

Contains four single drabbles with one quadruple drabble as a closer.

Chapter Text

“Isn’t this… y’know. Cheating?”

Pearl chuckled softly, a infectious sound for the lovesick Nico, and ran her fingers through Nico’s hair affectionately.

“You think too much sometimes,” she observed, still giggling. “You’re fine. I’m good at swimming. You’re good at close up magic. The judges don’t need to know the details of any powers we may or may not have.”

Nico bit her lip. “I suppose not…”

Pearl’s hand travelled down to under Nico’s chin, pushing up her face and leaning in for a kiss.

“I love you, Nico. Break a leg.”

Nico’s blushed deeply, to embarassed to argue further.

Notes:

Weirdly, this was the hardest chapter to do in spite of it being the only one about someone Nico has actually interacted with lmao. Pearl just doesn't have much going on in the show thus far? I hope they fix that soon, but thus far she's kind of just... a nice girl lol.

Chapter 2: Lost in Translation

Chapter Text

If she was being honest, Asha didn’t know what Nico was talking about.

Nico was going deep on some hyper-specific American counter-culture issue. Asha followed her for the first few minutes; however, as Nico began to delve deeper into obscure references and complex theories, Asha quickly lost track.

She didn’t mind though.

As Asha didn’t know what Nico was talking about, but she did know lots of other things... Like how cute Nico was with her brow furrowed in concentration and a smirk curling at the corners of her lips.

And that? Well, she could appreciate that all the same.

Notes:

Asha is adorable, isn't she? I wish we saw more of her in the second batch of episodes, as she was immediately charming in her debut...

Chapter 3: Mirror Match

Chapter Text

“Is there a sport more homoerotic then American wrestling?” Jeanne asked rhetorically. “Two half-naked people - usually of the same gender identity - grappling each other... It's downright lewd.”

Nico let out a soft giggle, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she playfully nudged her partner in the side. “Is this your way of asking to fight me? As I’d kick your ass.”

Jeanne's cheeks flushed, but nudged Nico back all the same. “Oh, I don’t know about that. I think I could have you on the ropes easily.”

They both believed what they said... unaware of one another's superpowers.

Notes:

Note: I know Jeanne's actor is non-binary! I do not know if that is true of the character in this canon, so I opted to just avoid gendering them in this drabble.

Chapter 4: Out of This World

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

“When you said your girlfriend was 'out of this world,' this is NOT what I thought you meant!"

Harry Osborn shouted in the air as Karolina Dean carried him through the air, her vibrant colours illuminating the sky around them. Nico’s arms were wrapped around Karolina’s shoulders as the three of them flew around, wind whipping at their faces.

“What did you think I meant?” Nico shouted back.

“Just that she is really dope! Not that she is an alien!”

“Well, to be fair, I am a really dope alien,” Karolina explained casually. “So, in a way, you’re both right.”

Notes:

This is still kind of my preference personally for a Nico love interest, but I am a fan of canon pairings...

Chapter 5: Not a Library

Chapter Text

“Can I help you?”

Nico looked up from her book. She was used to being able to read for free in this bookstore, a hole-in-the-hall place for lesbian witches. This new staff member, however, seemed to have other ideas.

“No, I’m good… Xuân,” she said, reading the name of the teenager’s name-tag. “Thanks though.”

Xuân looked at Nico with a look of shock. Nico rolled her eyes, a sassy retort about how her manager always lets her read the books without paying fired up on her tongue for when this entitled teen yelled at her. She was ready for it.

“You pronounced my name right,” Xuân said instead.

“I did,” Nico replied. “Yes.”

“Nobody ever pronounces it right. It’s always Shan or Xi’an. Even my boss gets it wrong most of the time.”

“Well then you should correct her about that.”

“Maybe I should…” Xuân agreed.

Nico nodded, then went back to her book… but Xuân didn’t leave. Nico sighed.

“Look, I know you’re new here, but I’ve always been allowed to-“

“Do you wanna go out?”

“What?”

“On a date... With me?”

“I know what going out means. Why me?”

“You seem nice.”

“You barely know me. Do you ask out any girl who pronounces your name right?”

“Just the cute ones,” Xuân shot back. “Besides, I know how hard it is to maintain hair dye like yours. It shows you are commited.”

Nico cocked an eyebrow skeptically. “Really?”

“Really,” Xuân replied. “When I first came out, I dyed my hair pink. It was a nightmare to keep up with.”

Nico found herself giggling at the image of this young bookseller as a kid with a choppy pink hair.

“I can imagine.”

“It wasn’t really worth it,” Xuân admitted. “But it was the only thing I could think of to prove to my uncle that my lesbianism wasn’t just a phase.”

“Did it work?”

“Kind of. He kicked me out of the house.”

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry.”

Xuân shook her head. “Don’t be. He was an asshat anyway. I’m better off without him.”

“I know that feeling…” Nico admitted.

“So… Wanna go?”

Xuân hesitated for a moment, her hand trembling slightly as she extended it toward Nico. Nico bit her lip, uncertain for a moment, before reaching out and grasping Xuân's hand nonetheless, chasing the spark of connection despite the awkwardness of the moment.

“Sure. Worth a shot, right?”

Notes:

And, lastly, here's the one which I couldn't keep as just a drabble...

I picked Karma on a whim as the extra wild card choice for a Nico love interest, but I ended up actually really liking their rapport? Idk. I think you could do interesting things with Karma's experience with her supervillain family and Nico's experience with Pride...
