Chapter Text

"This is your genin team Shikamaru! Their original sensei was injured in an attack so they need a new one! And Tsunade-sama thought you were the best replacement!" Shikamaru stood there wearing an over-sized shirt and boxers, dazed at the sudden intrusion in his house while Shizune stood there with a malicious grin and three children standing beside her looking up at him with their beady little eyes. "What?" Shizune pushed the three kids into the house and sat them in his living room "Go change, Tsunade expects you to get to know them and do a small training session today with them!"before Shikamaru could say anything Shizune Shun-shined away."WHAT!? NO GET BACK HERE!" Shikamaru tried to reach for her but she had already left.

He turned around to face the children, he recognized these three... they used to follow ...... before he went rogue. 'Especially the one with the scarf, who was he again. Oh the third hokage's grandson; Konohamaru Sarutobi. troublesome. What did i do to deserve this?' He left them sitting there and by the time he came back in his more casual ninja attire, the three children had started bickering about something along the lines of who gets to introduce themselves to Shikamaru first but when they saw him come back they shut up the smallest with glasses looked off to the side as mucus ran down his nose, the girl looked at Shikamaru head on determined while Konohamaru just yawned.

'Wow... I just might be realizing how Asuma felt when he met us... damn now's not the time' Shikamaru sighed and motioned for the three of them to follow. The girl ran right after him while the boys followed at a slower pace. The girl started to introduce herself "HI! My name is Moegi Kazamatsuri! It's nice to meet you sensei" Shikamaru nodded and continued on their path. The girl looked at him confused at his dismissive attitude and slightly slowed down.

by the time they made it to the training grounds, there was multiple Shinobi there training. "...Everything's been so tense recently" The boy with the glasses said in passing before sitting on the grass in front of Shikamaru as the rest of his team followed. "What a drag...My name is Shikamaru Nara. I guess I'll be your sensei for...a while." The girl perked up, "Nice to meet you! In case you didn't hear me, my names Moegi Kazamatsuri" "Udon Ise" "You know who i am" Moegi gasped "Konohamaru! Be nice!" Shikamaru stared at him blankly. Before regaining his composure "hm i guess you're right,uhm..." 'what do I even say. I don't talk... to children'

"Tell me about yourselves and your Chakra nature... did you're old sensei evaluate you?" The three kids nodded, Shikamaru lays down next to them shocking them, he glances at Udon "You first." Udon wipes his nose on his sleeves before starting "Uhm My chakra nature is water and Uhm I like a lot of stuff!" Shikamaru nods and then Moegi starts up "My Chakra nature is Earth! and I like dango and uhm a bunch of other stuff like my friends oh trying new things with my hair since my mom always put these two pigtails in my hair all the time! She gets mad when I take them down though." She was so excited that she stumbles over her words in some parts. Shikamaru looked at Konohamaru who just sat there. Just staring. Right at Shikamaru. Sorta freaky. "Are you going to say anything?" Konohamaru huffed and looked away "I don't have to say anything to you!" Shikamaru groaned "So troublesome. come on you gotta give me something so I can train you while your sensei is out of commission! I don't like this just as much as you but help me, help you, help us." Konohamaru sighed "I like uhm training, playing with my friends, ramen and chocolate covered bananas. Not together though!" Shikamaru chuckled at his rush to make the way he eats it apparent "And my chakra nature is Fire."

'Good, good, I think we'll all get along nicely for the time that we have' They continued to stare at him as he started getting loss in thought and started to mumble, "what would Ino do...what would Choji do...what would Naruto do?"... "Would you three like to go get food? We can go get Ichiraku ramen he has pretty much everything." Konohamaru lit up, Udon smiled while snot dripped down his nose again and Moegi nodded excitedly. And off they went, Udon staying close by Shikamaru while Konohamaru ran ahead Moegi struggling to catch up with him but trying her best.

Tsunade sighed but grinned in delight "They're having a bit of a rocky start but I think they'll be fine don't you think" Kurenai nodded as she held Mirai, "Well Tsunade-sama, I think you chose the right group for Shikamaru-kun. Ever since Asuma's death and Naruto going rogue to find Sasuke, he's been down in the dumps but I think those three will remind him of what it's like to live again." Tsunade smiled "I hope so Kurenai, I hope so but for the meantime I have a mission for you, if you feel alright to go on it" Kurenai nodded "Always"

After their lunch they went back to the training grounds to see Ino, Choji, Team 8, Sai and Sakura. Shikamaru waved "Yo"

Ino practically shrieked "When Sakura said that she overheard Tsunade-sama say she assigned you a genuine team she thought she misheard! BUT IT'S TRUE! WHY WOULD SHE CHOOSE YOU OF All PEOPLE!" She started laughing halfway through to the point she couldn't breathe, it got so bad Sai had to hold her up and keep her steady

Shikamaru groaned at his best friends reaction but Sakura who was snickering on the side perked up "She chose him because he fell asleep on one of the jobs she assigned him allowing some rouge nins to infiltrate the village. this, this is just a slap on the wrist"

"Can we not talk about this right now i gotta test these kids!" Shikamaru said with annoyance as the rest of his friends started howling with laughter.

"Good luck you four!! you're going to need it!!!" Hinata yelled while giggling as the group walked away

Shikamaru faced the kids, who looked around sheepishly trying not to make eye contact after the akward exchange, he sighed"who's ready to start training?"

Moegi was up first, he hadnt really expected much but she shocked him. She came out strong, quickly going
for the attack. Shikamaru thought that she would start with a shadow clone but no she just went for straight boxing.

Shikanaru had said in the beginning he wouldnt use his Shadow manipulation technique to make it fair but now he's starting to regret that. She's unrelenting and she isnt as strong as Sakura was at that age but she's still strong and the longer she hits the more times he starts to lose his stance.

'So she's experiences in hand to hand combat let see what she'll do if i push her away and keep a safe distance' As she went for another punch, Shikamaru grabbed her wrist and threw her back catching her off guard but she quicky recovered and lunged to get in close but Shikamaru evaded it easily. as they continued to spar the boys looked on eagerly waiting their turn, but also they have never really saw Moegi really fight, usually Ebisu would only train with her in ceritain occasions. It always confused them especially when Moegi would say she was stronger than them

Udon looked at Konohamaru "Maybe this is what she meant when she said she was stronger than us." Konohmaru nodded and whined 'But how? Sensei barely trained her!!". Shikamaru continued to keep his distance then all of a sudden he tripped, a root had wrapped itself around his ankle and all of a sudden he was splashed with water. She had knocked him down! 'How the- didnt she say her nature was earth... ugh' Moegi came up to him "Sorry, i didnt mean to i usually dont have a grasp on my water chakara." Shikamaru groaned and stood up "It's fine i just wished you told me you had it even if you dont have a grasp on it"

Moegi nodded and walked with him back to the boys, when they made it over to the boys Shikamaru turned to Moegi, "You're really talented in Taijutsu and you have good strategy. That trip and splash combo was a great idea. And you even went for my leading leg knocking me even more off balance." Moegi grinned and stated smugly "Well of course i am talented my parents are one of the best Shinobi and Kuniochi out there." Shikamaru just nodded 'She isnt wrong i have seen her parents in action before they arent weak of course they let their daughter get a head start especially when females are usually not expected to stay on the Kuniochi road of life.'

"Udon, You'e next" The boy froze and looked around before pointing at himself timidly a very high contrast to his original calm demeanor, Moegi spoke up "He isnt very good" Konohamaru started as well "he could barely do the shadow clone Jutsu making fail graduation multiple times during school" Moegi continued "Yea and he's can't really thow a punch" shikamaru put up a hand to quiet the other two, Udon was looking down almost tearing up. Moegi and Konohamaru froze at their friends face, "hey dude you know we didnt mean anything by it-" Konohamaru started as he and Moegi looked at Udon guiltily.

'UGHH Kids and them not understanding feelings...my plan was to watch the clouds go by but no, i get a genin team' Shikamaru thought exasperated. He crouched down to be at Udon's height and put on a soft smile. "It's okay Udon it just means we gotta train you a bit harder than the other two is all. it'll be a drag but if this is the path you want to go down we gotta put in the work okay?" Udon looked at him hopefully and nodded while sniffling "We'll skip you for now, Konohamaru you're up."

Konohamaru has a good idea of what he'd doing and he has potential but he's cocky in it and that's causing him to trip up, 'Did i literally just get team 7, 2.0? Kakashi, help me!' -Somehwere out there Kakashi sneezed while reading his book- After a while Shikamaru was able to pin down Konohamaru much to the boy's distress. Konohamaru got up seething and got up to sit behind Udon. Shikamaru looked at the three of them.

'They have their own personalities and quirks but i see a bit of everyone in them, not just team 7. crazy. I see a mix of Ino and Sakura in Moegi, Shino, Hinata and myself in Udon and Naruto, Kiba and Sasuke in Konohamaru. This is so going to be a drag' even though he thought about how this is going to be he can't help but smile, Konohmaru and Moegi started to bicker again while Udon just sat there doing math equations in the sand.

Konohamaru stood up and lookeeed Shikamaru dead in the eyes "Hey you might've one this time but I didnt even use my secret Jutsu! Next time i'll definitely win, im the grandson of the third hokage there's no way i'll lose to you again!"

'Yup defienitly a mix of naruto and Sasuke...dammit"
