Chapter Text
“Alrighty, Boonchuy”, Sasha said. “You wanna kiss a guy, you gotta know how to kiss. And nobody knows how to kiss better than moi!”
“Pssh, yeah right.” Anne says dismissively. “The only thing you’ve kissed is a mirror.”
“Don’t forget that vampire novel she checked out last month-” Marcy chimed in.
“SHUT UP, MAR!” Sasha says, miffed and embarrassed. “Anyway, Anne, I can teach you how to kiss, and there’s nothing to it! Just pucker your lips, and lock them in with the other person’s lips.”
“Sasha, I know how kissing works. Just because I’ve never done it doesn’t mean I’ve never seen it.”
“Well, would you like to do it?” Sasha asked, the suggestion in her voice indicating what she wanted to do.
“Uhhhh,” Anne got a little uncomfortable. “Well I mean, we’ve been friends for like almost our entire lives anddd…”
“Oh come on, Anne! What would you rather kiss? The cat?!” Sasha said pointing at Domino.
This got Anne to laugh a little, alleviating the tension. She retorted back with a snark of her own. “Well, Domino does scratch less…”
Sasha chuckled a little at that. “C’mon, Anne. I don’t think it’s anything inherently romantic. We’re just two besties practicing kissing with each other. No harm no foul, right? Come on, back me up Mar-Mar.”
Marcy was busy watching War of the Warlocks though, repeating the dialogue spoken under her breath. And then one of her favorite characters showed up on screen and she buried her face in a pillow, kicked her legs in the air rapidly, and squealed like a fangirl.
“I’ll just say she agrees with me.” Sasha says, a little hurt that Marcy isn’t paying attention to her.
“Well…if we are just practicing, then there really isn’t any harm.” Anne says as she begins to sit herself on the bedroom floor.
“Alrighty let’s do it then!” Sasha exclaims as she gets on the floor with Anne. Anne sits criss cross applesauce, whilst Sasha sits on her knees. “Wait lemme get into character”, she continues.
“Character?” Anne questioned. “I thought we were just gonna—“
Suddenly Sasha’s face turned into a smolder and her voice became all stereotypical and dude-like. “Hey babe,” Sasha said like the cringe bro baby she is. She also turned her imaginary hat around and began dancing her eyebrows. And the more masculine Sasha made herself, the more turned off Anne was.
“….Hi?” Anne said in the most ‘I really wish I could leave right now’ tone.
“So whattya say babe? Let’s kiss babe.“ Sasha said as she began puckering her lips.
“Uhhh Sasha? I was kinda hoping we could just kiss. Your character isn’t really helping. Whoever you’re imitating he sounds really, uhhh, shallow and empty? Maybe you could be yourself.”
“Well alright. But I really like that voice though.” Sasha dropped the character and was now herself. She leaned in, closed her eyes, and puckered her lips. She looked confident, but on the inside she was shaking. Anne was too, but she decided what the heck, this would be fun. So she puckered her lips, closed her eyes, and began leaning in, waiting for the impact.
And then their lips met.
For both girls, they just didn’t want to stop kissing. It felt good, it felt right, it felt liberating. It felt like this was the next logical step their friendship would take. And so they stopped, and opened their eyes and looked at each other for a few seconds.
And then they kissed again.
It felt just as good the second time. They wrapped their arms around each other and fell lying on the floor. Each other’s embrace felt safe and welcoming. It was like home.
Marcy, having not paid attention to Anne & Sasha’s conversation at all, looks away from the TV for a second and gets startled at Anne & Sasha’s embrace. “WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU GUYS DOING!” She shouts with the same embarrassed passion you’d expect from seeing your besties making out— without you.
Anne & Sasha were startled out of their kiss and talked over each other trying to come up with an excuse. Marcy wasn’t buying the excuses. And so it was agreed that whenever Anne & Sasha did kissing games at sleepovers, for now on they would have to include Marcy as well. Not that it mattered much to either Anne or Sash, because deep down they all wanted to kiss each other.
At the start of the sleepover, Anne wanted to know how to kiss a guy. Now she never wants to kiss a guy ever. Because the comfort she feels from kissing and embracing Sasha & Marcy will always be greater than whatever any boy can give her. And so every sleepover the girls get, they play The Kissing Game.
