Tournament Days

Summary:

( first ever Phighting fic + AU solely based on a dream I had. )

Notes:

Tournament Days is a Phighting AU that takes place in a modern setting, Tournament Days AU will be separated into different parts introducing each holder of the SFOTH Swords and their dynamics they have with each character.

( questions are encouraged if you are confused! So please ask them, I would love to answer them! )

Just a tiny heads up but the SFOTH deities do not exist in this AU.

Chapter 1

Summary:

“Welcome one and all to the first annual Tournament Days!”

Chapter Text

Sword had been hanging out with Rocket and slingshot sharing a few laughs and talking about strategies for their next upcoming fight against Subspace and his crew.

“Guys, this is going to be huge! Everyone we know is going to be there!” Rocket said with excitement, “I’m so pumped for this.”

Sword chuckled to himself as he suddenly stopped in front of the bulletin board to see what the schedule was until he seen a familiar name was participating.

His heart sunk into the deepest pits of his stomach as he suddenly remembered how happy they had been together, but to be reminded how he had hurt her.

He quickly shook the thought away thinking it was some sort of bad dream. But if it wasn’t then how could he make it up to someone he had hurt for the longest time?

“Earth to Sword,” Slingshot said waving a hand in his face, “Are ya good? You seem lost about something.”

“Oh yeah, I’m fine.” He responded, “Something came up, I’ll meet y’all at the cafe later.”

Rocket and Slingshot looked at each other slightly confused, both had a feeling that Sword was hiding something from them but chose to not dig into it.

“Ya wanna see who are next opponents are?” Slingshot asked suddenly breaking the silence between them.

“Hell yeah! I’m curious on who are first match is against, we gotta tell Sword after though.” Rocket said with this determined look on his face.

They continued talking as they stood in front of the bulletin board looking at the names before noticing one specific name causing Rocket to nudge into Slingshot.

“Dude, do you see what I’m seeing?”

“Like hell I do.” Slingshot replied looking over. “The fact that Sword’s Ex is participating is crazy.”

“No wonder why looked so pale in the face, he still hasn’t recovered from the pain he had caused for the both of them.”

Slingshot sighed softly before looking back at Rocket, he needed more answers to the many questions he had and the only person who could answer them was Sword himself.

“C’mon let’s go find Sword, I got so many questions to ask.”

Rocket nodded while walking and talking, the fact that Sword has been hiding this for so long has left him so confused and worried.

They’ve been friends forever, to hold onto the past and not talk to any of them really made this even more irritating to him.

Whatever, they have better things to do. The tournament is in a few weeks and they need to practice as soon as they can.

“I’m sure whatever is going on between the two isn’t so bad.”

“Let’s hope it is,” Rocket mumbled slightly, “It’s already upsetting. . . He could’ve talked about it.”

“He could have,” Slingshot replied, “But he chose not to talk about it.”

“And that’s what hurts the most, he can’t keep holding onto the past forever.”

“Agreed, but we can’t really force him to talk about his ex when it could possibly open up old wounds again.”

“You’re right, whenever he’s ready I’m sure he will talk to us about it.”

“And besides I’m sure he didn’t mean to keep it hidden from us, sometimes it’s better to not bring up the past.”

“But holding onto the past can hurt you mentally, I’m sure whatever is going on with Sword now is hurting him deeply. . . I’m sure he hasn’t fully gave himself a chance to make it right with her no matter what he thinks.”

“Yeah that is true, but we still need to give him. But for now we gotta tournament to prep for.”

Rocket nodded happily throwing a fist in the air, he was excited about this.

“Let’s do this! You have no idea how stoked I am over this tournament, something like this that happens once every year is crazy.”

Slingshot snickered softly, despite everything that was going within their group he was just as excited if not a bit more excited for this tournament.

“Yeah, but for now let’s head towards the cafe and wait for Sword, we gotta lot to plan and practice for.”

“Let’s get going then, I’m ready to cause problems.”

“Of course you are.” Slingshot said rolling his eyes, “There is never a dull moment for you is there?”

“What can I say? With such an amazing team I’m sure we’re gonna win as long as we have fun at the end of it all.”

“True that, I feel like everyone who has entered the tournament is looking for a bit of fun even if they are one of the most serious teams.”

“We got a few weeks to practice and come up with the best strategies we can think of, I’m sure Sword has a few good ideas.”

Chapter 2: Sword of Venom

Summary:

Via; the holder of the Venomshank.
Its user, and the ex partner of Sword.

What she doesn’t know is that her ex and his friends had entered the same tournament without much of anyone’s knowledge.

Notes:

( Lover to Enemies ship dynamic between Via &. Sword.

The fact they hadn’t realized they both entered the same tournament is beyond me lol. )

( Via or V is the holder / user of the Venomshank making her the first female to actually be immune to the swords poison. She is part slime and tends to melt partially from the rain and such )

( what exactly is her deal with Sword? Let’s just say he has something of importance that she wants back even if it means killing someone she once loved )

I just love writing sassy and spiteful women.

Chapter Text

Via sighed softly as she swung her bags over her shoulder before side eyeing the bulletin board of upcoming tournament matches noticing a familiar name.

“No way. . .” She mumbled under her breath, “There’s no way he’s entering to.”

Why didn’t she see this before? Why now was this bringing back so much pain? As much as she hated the thought of him, she had moved on from the things that had hurt her.

The fact that her ex was going to be at the tournament only had made things even more bitter. . . It didn’t feel like hate at this point.

It was something she couldn’t put her finger on it right now but there was an emotion far more than hate that she was feeling towards Sword.

“You steal my heart, and decide to give it away? How dare you, how dare you decide to hurt me this way? I loved you. . . I cared so much about you. . . I was there for you whenever you were down and this is the thanks I get?”

There was so much malice in her voice as the tears started to form, who else was there to hate at the moment?

Who else could mend this broken soul again if not the one who has done the damage?

Oh well, there’s no point in holding onto the past. It could only hurt you the more you hold onto it.

She took a breather wiping the tears from her eyes as she continued her way home, all this thinking has gotten her hungry.

Nothing like a nice big bowl of soup could fix up a worn and tattered woman. Though she did have plans to meet up with someone so maybe her meal could wait just a little bit longer.

“Right! I almost forgot that I promised to meet up with Mrs. Vine Staff, she told me she had something to tell me. Guess I’ll skip out on my dinner plans for just a bit.”

She quickly ran off keeping a hold of her bag, she was super excited to see someone she was comfortable with.

Maybe. . . Just maybe she could tell her everything that has been happening to her as of lately.

She was going into this tournament alone, she was much stronger than the teams currently in the tournament.

What people didn’t know was the she holds a sword much powerful.

The Venomshank.

As much as she hates telling people about it, she couldn’t help but tell the stories of how she had gotten to where she was.

The kids loved the stories she told, they would visit her and her many siblings to hear their stories time and time again.

But why doesn’t she talk about it now? Why does talking about her past hurt so much?

She was still healing, and with how her heart she couldn’t fully keep her emotions together. . . She is what some call a zombie.

An emotionless, lifeless, decaying zombie. . . That’s all she’ll ever be known for.

She needed to find Sword, she needed that part of her back. . . She needed to feel whole again. . . Just this once.

She has promised to never fall in love again, she doesn’t want to feel that same heartbreak over again, she doesn’t feel like she ready for anything at the moment.

But for now her main goal was to find Sword and take back what’s rightfully hers to begin with.

“You’ve hurt me for far too long Sword, do you not care about me like I’ve done for you? Do you hate me? Why did you run away?”

This felt like some sort of nightmare as she soon started to hear whispers, baggy eyes soon had been rolled out of annoyance.

“I got no time to hear the mumbling and rants others have about me. . . I fear they are a bit scared of me. . . As I expected from this upcoming tournament.”

She mumbled to herself as she continued walking her body soon stopped once she was standing in front of someone.

“Hi! I’m such a fan of you and the others, I heard you were going to be at the upcoming tournament.”

“Oh yeah, that’s true.” She responded not looking at the girl in front of her, “Is there something you want from me?”

“You gotta let me tag along with you! I’ve heard such good things about you and I need to know if the stories are true.”

“Why exactly do you care?”

“Because I grew up listening to every story about the SFOTH Wielders. . . You are my inspiration, everything you guys have done helped me grow as a person. . . I really look up to you the most. The way you use the venomshank is super cool!”

“Alright kid, you can tag along. . . No need to give all that praise.” She chuckled softly.

“Sorry! I get super excited whenever I meet my idols.”

“Say, what’s your name?”

“It’s Luna!”

“Alright Luna, let’s get moving. I got someone to meet up with.”

The girl nodded as she followed beside Via humming softly as her eyes soon laid on the sword she was carrying.

“Hey, can I ask you something?”

“Sure, whatever ask it.”

“What’s the story between you and the Venomshank? The fact you haven’t gotten hurt by it amazes me.”

“How about I tell you that story some other time yeah? That story is quite the long one.”

Luna nodded understanding, “Of course.”

Luna had enjoyed the little conversation she had with Via, the fact she was hanging out with one of her idols felt like a dream.

“Not be rude, but what’s the story about that heart shaped hole in your body?”

She blinked looking down at the hole before chuckling softly to herself, of course the kid would be interested in that.

“You’re fine, let’s say someone who I once loved decided to steal my heart and never give it back to me. . . I am forever doomed to not feel any sort of emotions.”

“Wait, really? That must suck.”

“I’ve grown to accept the fact that whoever has my heart is truly happy with it.”

“But don’t you wanna be happy?”

“I do, but it’s too late for me.”

Luna frowned softly before understanding the feeling the pain she was going through, but now she was determined to find her heart.

“It’s never too late, I promise to bring back that missing piece no matter what happens.”

“It’s not worth it, just trust me when I say it isn’t worth it. . . Whoever has my heart has probably poisoned it.”

Chapter 3

Summary:

She was like a big sister her after had found out that her parents had abandoned her for something better in life.

Notes:

I LOVE TOXIC YURI!

Uh uh in this AU Sword is Transfem ( she/they ) why? Because I love women and I also love men. But most definitely women currently

BUT BOY DO I LOVE TOXIC YURI!!
Anyways, did I mention that I truly love toxic yuri?

But uh the only people knew of Sword’s change are Rocket, Slingshot, and most definitely Medkit for whatever reason.

I’ll probably explain this a bit more later in the next chapter’s notes to the best of my ability.

Chapter Text

“Hey Luna, can I ask you something.” Via had asked looking at her.

“Sure! What’s up?”

“Where are your parents? It’s odd that you are just out here alone. . . Do you not fear they could be looking for you?”

“Of course not.” She said nonchalantly, “My parents had abandoned me.”

Via looked over at her with a face full of shock, to hear such a thing leave such a small lady’s mouth made her blood boil.

How could the ones that raised her leave her behind like that?

“I’m. . . I’m so sorry that happened to you. You truly deserve so much better.”

“Don’t apologize, it was for the better.” She said, “I realize that I was their biggest mistake.”

Via sighed softly as she placed a hand onto Luna’s head, she felt bad about what was going on with her life.

She was going to make it her priority to care and show Luna how much of an important she truly is. Spending time with her truly opened up Via’s eyes.

Maybe this was the light Via truly needed in her life after all.

“The orphanage I tend to stay at lets us do whatever we want, so I guess I got lucky meeting you.”

“Ya sure did, didn’t you. . .?”

Via and Luna had shared a few good giggles as they continued to walk, everything had been going well until Via noticed a very nasty face walking up towards them.

It’s always the weirdos and creeps that always ruin the fun. She quickly grabbed Luna’s hand giving it a gentle squeeze as if to tell her to stay quiet and close to her.

Luna squeaked slightly before realizing what was going on, this had scared her a lot. . . What was going to happen to them? There was no way Via could take them all on by herself.

But she had to believe in her, she knew how strong Via was and she knew she could protect her.

“Listen little lady, I need you to do me a favor. Promise you won’t come looking for me when push comes to shove yeah?”

“Yeah, I’ll do whatever you need me to do. Just tell me what you want me to do.”

“Run, and whatever you do don’t look back. I’ll hold these guys off to the best of my ability.”

Luna frowned and nodded running to find a place to hide. She couldn’t help but worry about Via despite knowing how strong she is.

“Hey, hey no need to get all worked up Princess, you’re pops sent us to check up on ya.”

She blinked slightly realizing who it was giving off a gentle sigh of relief before walking up towards the goons.

“Never scare me like that again, I honestly thought you guys were those weirdos that live around here.” She rolled her eyes, “Now I’m worried about Luna.”

“Ya mean this pretty little lady?” One of the goons asked revealing a happy Luna.

“Hi Via! These guys are so cool! Are they your bodyguards?”

She chuckled softly feeling better that Luna was safe, that girl meant the world to her.

“You can say that. . . Their like family in a sense, they tend to get way too overly protective than I do.”

She suddenly had an idea a gentle smile sat on her face as she pulled one of the goons over to the side.

“Is everything alright Princess?”

“Of course, but I need you to do me a favor. I want Luna to meet my dad, do you think you guys can take her? I would love to come and see him as well, but y’know the whole tournament thing and what not.”

“With pleasure Princess. . . Is there a reason why?”

“It’s a long story, but I rather have Luna tell you guys whenever she’s ready.”

The goon nodded now walking back to the other to tell the other the plan.

“Alright, I places to go and people to meet. Please stay around these guys Luna, they’ll make sure to keep you safe.”

“Alright! See ya later!” Luna waved happily.

Via waved happily seeing them walk off, she couldn’t help but wonder what her dad would think of Luna.

She hummed softly as she continued to walk towards the food court, today has been good and nothing was going to change that.

“I know papa would love a slice of pizza, he always talks about how the food court has the best pizza.”

She chuckled to herself, she held her father close to her heart especially since her mother had died. She loved her family dearly but everything felt so different once her mother just up and left.

“Maybe after practice I could pick up a couple of slices of pizza for Luna and papa. I think they would love it.”

That’s when she noticed something from the corner of her eye, a face she wouldn’t dare see at a place like this. . . Unless they are with friends then that’s another story.

But that’s when it had hit her, that something was Sword. . . Why was she here? Was Slingshot and Rocket here. . .?

This was it, this was the time to get back what was taken from her once and for all.

“Sword! Stop running from me!” She yelled out angrily, “Give it back to me!”

Sword tensed up from that familiar voice calling out to her, she could feel the anger and resentment in Via’s voice.

“V-Via. . . I-I. . .”

“Shut it. . . My father was right about you. . . You never truly loved me, you only wanted my heart.”

“That’s not true! That was never meant to happen, I loved you. . . I couldn’t stop thinking about you. I never meant to hurt you.”

She clenched her fists holding back the tears, she hated Sword so much, she hated how much she missed her so much.

Sword could still feel the resentment and hatred, but she wanted to make things right.

“I hate you! How could you run away from what you’ve caused? How could you leave me behind when I was hurt? Why did you run away?”

There was complete silence between the two as Sword looked away, there was nothing they could say that would make her less upset with him.

“If you truly cared about me then you would come and meet me at the heights. . . Bring no one, you have a lot explaining to do.”

Sword sighed softly before nodding, she then had noticed the gaping hole where her heart used to be.

“Your heart. . . I didn’t know. . . I.”

She said nothing as she walked off, she held back the tears as she looked back at Sword. She hated everything that has happened to her.

She rubbed her eyes before taking a breather, she can only hope that Sword keeps their word and meet her at the Heights.

She was blinded by love, she was so blind that it had caused her heart.

Maybe she should have listened to her father, but she was so young and stupid when it comes to love and she was the who to blame for this feeling she has.

Chapter 4

Summary:

You make it difficult to hate you, I hate you and yet I can’t forgive you for the pain you’ve put me through. . . I can’t love you again. I can’t forgive you.

Notes:

( alright kids this bit of information will be on the test, so study up! This will be a multiple choice test )

In this AU Sword is a 25 year old trans person, Sword uses she / they / he pronouns ( yes this is me projecting lol. ) though she / they pronouns are highly preferred for Sword.

Sword’s ex gf Via is a nonbinary demigirl who uses she / her pronouns though they / them pronouns are fine when addressing Via.

( Via &&. Sword are the most toxic yuri couple ever in this story and I love them so much for it. I appreciate them so much you have no idea )

Chapter Text

It had started to rain once Via had found herself alone on the heights, she of course had started to wait for Sword hoping they would keep their promise of meeting her here.

Skin slowly starting to form a puddle beside her, is Sword truly standing her up? He promised to meet her here.

Every raindrop had stung like hell as she waited now sticking her sword into the ground to collect her thoughts.

Her mind had been racing as she became so entranced with her own thoughts, how did such a young naive woman such as herself became such a strong holder of such a strong sword?

She was sure she would die if she had touched the sword just once. . . But it seemed that her slime genes had come in handy.

The fact that she was immune to poison has confused her so much.

She soon shook the thought away trying to forget everything that had happened to her in the past, she had a lot to focus on and that was including herself.

She had herself to be happy over, she had a loving family and amazing friends that are willing to stick with her till the very end of things. She was happy.

That’s all she can be at the moment, even if she was missing something of value.

“. . . I knew you wouldn’t show up, you truly amaze me Sword. I see why you ran away, truly too scared to face me again. . .?”

She sighed grabbing her sword making her way home, she was partially melted and soaked. . . If she wasn’t in a sour mood already she would have enjoyed the rain a little longer.

She hated how everything had turned so stale but what can one do to change it back?

What can you do to go back in time to tell yourself that you wouldn’t be the same? What can you do to prevent so much hate and malice?

Was the heartbreak strong enough to leave you broken? Why do you hate yourself so much. . .?

“I was stupid enough to believe we could make things work. I believed that we were strong together. . .”

“. . . That we can take on the world together. I believed in us. . . I believed that you still cared about me and I still believed that at my lowest you’d still be there for me.”

And boy was she wrong, she was lead into a lie by someone she thought had cared for her.

Oh well! This wasn’t the time to think about the past, she needed to get home before the rain started pouring melting her completely. She loved the rain but she hated being stuck in it.

Maybe the rain was her sign to give up and focus what she was truly brought here for. And that was the tournament, something that she had plans for ever since she was just a little girl.

Maybe that was why she was gifted the venomshank.

She had so many questions, but she’ll wait to ask them.

Chapter 5: No Show

Summary:

“I flaked out on meeting her at the Heights! Promised to meet her and yet I couldn’t bring myself to do so.”

Chapter Text

“. . . Of course you’d be a no show Sword, after you promised her you’d be there. Why would you suddenly chicken out like that?!”

Sword sighed softly as she had looked at herself in the mirror, they were right. . . They were right about Sword running away.

“I broke a promise to her, I know she wouldn’t forgive me nor give me another chance. . . But I got to make it up to her somehow.”

Sword says as she kept thinking about Via, the other must still at the heights. . . She had to find out.

Then she suddenly had gotten an idea, this was probably going to end up badly but she had to do it. . . She had to see the man who thought of her as family.

“This is going to kill me, but I need to ask him for a favor. . . But he’s my only hope and I can’t stop thinking about her.”

Sword had quickly ran off in hopes to talk with Via’s father, this was going to be a death sentence for her but Sword could really care less.

“This is now or never, I need to find out what I could do get her forgiveness and Mr. Antonio is my only option.”

Chapter 6

Summary:

Her dad was this big name, people loved him . . . And people feared him.

And yet I wasn’t scared of him at all.

Notes:

( hi! I’m back! Sorry for not updating this story as much, but I’m back with a new chapter!! This time we get to meet Via and Luna’s dad! He’s honestly such a sweet guy once you get to know him. )

Chapter Text

“I knew you’d show up Sword, especially after what you’ve done to my daughter.”

“I-I’m so sorry sir, but I need your help. I really want to make it up to her.” Sword spoke not breaking a sweat, “I know what I did was wrong, but. . .”

He shook his head sighing heavily before moving out the way to let Sword inside, “Come in.”

Sword nodded as she had walked in taking every bit of the house she was in, remembering meeting Via for the first time.

The dates they had brought a slight tear to Sword’s eyes. . . If only she could go back in time and tell Via how sorry she was for hurting her.

“You left my daughter alone on the heights after telling her you’d meet her there.”

“I know, and I blame myself for it every chance I get.”

Mr. Anton sighed before looking at Sword, he knew she still loved Via, he knew how much she meant to her.

But no matter how often he looks back on the past, he knows that Via won’t forgive her not after what had happened.

“How can I help you Sword? As much as my daughter hates bringing up the past I wanna try and help in any way possible.”

“Can you tell her to meet me on the heights whenever you see her? This might be my only chance to convince her.”

“Of course, I’ll be sure to tell her.”

“Thank you so much Sir! I gotta get going, I gotta go and meet up with my friends.”

“Please stay safe young Sword. . . Be sure to keep that promise.”

“Of course I will.”
