Work Text:
Chenle has always been someone who likes variety, so when he raided the pregnancy test section of the pharmacy, he made sure that variety showed up in the tests he bought. He bought two of those Clearblue tests that are kind of expensive, with the up-charge that's definitely there just because it has a screen that reads out the results to you. He also bought two of those really cheap tests, the ones that just have the control and test line.
So he made sure to cover his bases well.
And after acquiring his tests, and ignoring the disapproving look from the granny cashier ( Chenle is a grown man! It’s his life! If he’s pregnant, then he has right to be pregnant! ), he chugged two bottles of water, and then rushed home, running into the bathroom so that he could potentially get down to the reason that he’s been vomiting up every meal for the last week straight, ( and why his heat that was supposed to start yesterday never hit ).
So about an hour after his pharmacy visit, he sits on his bathroom floor, staring in awe at all four positive tests.
“Damn, not even one negative.” Chenle scratches his head and looks down at his stomach. “Well…”
In retrospect, these positive results shouldn’t be so surprising. You know, Chenle thought that Mark was up to something, and the more that he thinks about it, the more intentional this is all beginning to seem. His grandma always told him that it was improper and impossible for alphas and omegas to be “just friends” regardless of primary gender, which Chenle always thought was a load of dogshit.
But now, seeing that he and his alpha best friend of like ten years went from being just friends, to friends with benefits, to Chenle literally being pregnant—maybe she sort of had a point there.
Looking back, now it’s very obvious to Chenle when this all started, but he kind of had the cloth pulled over his eyes. You don’t really just assume that your friend that you’ve never had sexual or romantic feelings for is trying to get you pregnant, but it was really a slow progression.
Mark must've known what he was doing.
- PLANTING THE SEED
Chenle and Mark have always been the casual hangout type of friends. When you know someone for so long, your friendship naturally goes from always needing an organized activity, like a party, or going to a nice restaurant for dinner, to literally just running errands together—which is what Chenle and Mark were doing the day that it started. Chenle needed to do some shopping, and so he asked Mark to come with him just to have some company, and also to act as the alpha protection; no matter how ugly Chenle tries to look whenever he leaves the house, he still usually gets approached by at least one alpha, and having Mark there just acts as a deterrent when he’s not in the mood to reject people.
During that shopping trip, for some reason unbeknownst to Chenle, which now he believes was definitely the doing of Mark, they ended up in the baby aisle.
“Awe, look at these.” Chenle cooed, picking up a small pair of baby Crocs. Baby shoes are some of the cutest things in the world, at least in Chenle’s opinion.
“Those are so cute,” Mark agreed ever so innocently. “You should get them.”
Chenle turned around and looked at Mark like he was crazy. “Why? I don’t have a baby. And my nephew can’t fit these, he’s big now.” He looked back down at the little baby slippers, still cooing at the size of them.
“You might have a kid one day,” Mark said casually. To which Chenle scoffed.
“I don’t even have a boyfriend, I’m not having a kid any time soon.” Which was the truth at the time, clearly not in the present day, though.
“I guess.” Mark shrugged nonchalantly. “But they’d be good to have. Start building up your collection of stuff now so you don’t have to spend as much money once the baby comes.”
Chenle really should’ve seen the red flags right there with how definitively Mark was speaking—like he knew that Chenle was going to have a baby at some point. Most people thought that Chenle would never have a kid! Like—ever!
“I’ll get them if you get something too,” Chenle said. He already successfully let Mark get in his head for some reason and put the shoes inside of the cart, but he felt like making Mark get an item too was something like breaking even.
“This shirt is cute.” Mark picked up a baby blue shirt with little stars on it. “And it matches the Crocs.”
Chenle dumbly didn’t question why Mark was corresponding his baby item with Chenle’s, despite them both apparently being under the assumption that they’d be having two different babies unrelated to each other (which Chenle now knows was likely never the plan).
Mark placed the shirt into the cart, and then they continued their journey throughout the store. More crazy coincidences happened while Chenle was letting Mark push the cart, such as them ending up in the baby food aisle, or ending up in the baby toy aisle.
And the cherry on top was when they made it back to Chenle’s house.
“You know, you’d be a good dad,” Mark randomly said while they were unpacking the groceries.
Chenle has to admit, that comment kind of flustered him.
“So random?” He asked, even though the comment wasn’t really so random after the occurrences on that shopping trip.
“Yeah,” Mark replied, acting all nonchalant as he packed vegetables into the fridge. “I mean, I really just thought about it a lot today. You’re really responsible.”
Chenle just tried brushing Mark’s comments off with a joke. “Do alphas ovulate? What’s with you and babies today?”
Mark just shrugged. “I don’t know, seeing you with the baby shoes made me realize.”
They finished packing away the groceries, and the only items that remained in the bag were the shoes and the shirt.
“Here,” Chenle had said, trying to hand Mark the shirt he picked out, but the alpha declined.
“Hold on to it for now.”
And Chenle didn’t find anything weird about it at the time, having just taken the clothing and put it on a shelf in his closet.
- MAKING THE FIRST MOVE
One evening, Chenle and Mark were lying in the omega’s bed and having a heated debate on what the rest of their night would entail. Mark wanted to stay in and chill, Chenle wanted to go out and party.
“We can party next week,” Mark whined. “Let’s just stay here tonight. We can order food, and we can finish watching The Last Dance, and just like have a guy’s night in.”
Admittedly, as appealing as that plan sounded to Chenle, he had his heart set on going out. And no, it wasn't because he necessarily wanted to party—it was because he needed to go to a party to find someone to fuck.
Chenle just wanted to get laid.
Chenle doesn’t casually hook up with people often, and that along with the absence of a romantic partner means that he didn’t get much action either. And he didn’t have a problem with that—life isn’t all about sex, but it just meant that when he was in the mood, and was craving more than just silicone, he actually had to put in work.
“Let’s just go out,” Chenle insisted. “We can do that any other day.”
He tried rolling out of the bed, but Mark pulled him back down, and then literally rolled on top of him.
“Come on,” he continued to whine.
In all honesty, Chenle thought about just going out without Mark, but knowing the alpha, he’d be petty and stay the night at Chenle’s place, meaning that he couldn’t bring his hook up back to the apartment, and Chenle refused to go over to the residence of a random alpha.
“You’re being childish,” Chenle chided, trying to push Mark off of him. “Don’t you like partying?”
“Yeah, and you never feel like going when I actually want to.” Which was true, but Mark always wanted to party when Chenle was not in the mood.
At this point, Chenle was starting to get kind of annoyed. Mark was literally cockblocking him without realizing it.
So Chenle’s solution was to straight up say why he wanted to go out in hopes that it'd get Mark off of his back. The two of them used to shy away from sex talk, even seeming a little prudish at times, but that was just the sort of friendship they had. Chenle would mention wanting to get fucked, and he'd make the atmosphere all awkward so that Mark would leave him alone.
“Unless you’re gonna fuck me tonight, get off of me so that I can find an alpha who will.”
But this is where Mark caught Chenle off guard.
“I can do that.” And he acted casual as ever when he said it, too.
“Wait, what?” Chenle couldn’t wrap his head around what Mark just said, thinking it was just some sort of joke that didn't land.
“If you wanna hook up, we can.” Mark looked dead serious.
“I was just saying that…I didn't mean it for real.” Chenle wasn’t expecting Mark to actually take him up on the offer that really wasn’t an offer. They—or at least Chenle, (because Mark clearly had an agenda), had never seen each other in a sexual light.
“What?” Mark rolled off of Chenle. “You wouldn’t sleep with me?”
“Probably not,” Chenle answered. And Mark actually pouted at his words, which thoroughly confused Chenle. At that point, there was no doubt in his mind that Mark just didn’t have the capacity to see him that way. Mark and Chenle had been friends for a long time, which means that Chenle was there to see pretty much all of Mark’s romantic partners—and absolutely none of them were anything like Chenle. If Chenle had to assign a type to Mark, he usually likes very omega-like omegas. He used to date this guy named Jeno, and he was what Mark likes to a T. He was all soft-spoken and shy, and would always get all bashful whenever Mark complimented and doted on him. It was cute, kind of gross, but cute.
Chenle couldn’t imagine being like that. Just because he can have babies means that he has to be all shy and stuff? Hell no! People have always told him that he was kind of rough for an omega. Too loud and aggressive for an alpha to want—at least that’s what his family always said. His mother was so relieved when his brother finally had a kid, because she already had it in her mind that Chenle would never give her a grandchild, since apparently no sensible alpha would commit to an omega like him.
“That’s mean.” Mark pouted, and then weirdly rested a hand on Chenle’s stomach. “But you just offered, didn’t you?”
“It was rhetorical.” Chenle thought about pushing Mark’s hand off of him, but for some reason he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
“I still don’t wanna go out.”
And then they both just laid in silence for a few seconds after that.
“I was serious about hooking up,” Mark said, breaking the silence. “It can be friendly.”
Chenle sighed, honestly considering it since Mark was refusing to compromise.
“You shouldn’t fuck your friends,” He reasoned, pushing Mark’s hand away. “That’s not something you do.”
Fucking your friends ruins friendships. Chenle knows that much.
Mark laughed. “You really think that our friendship is weak enough for one hook up to ruin it? Have some faith in us.”
Mark was clearly trying to get under his skin—scratching Chenle’s competitive itch. He was taunting him. Like he was daring Chenle to sleep with him just to prove a point.
And of course, Chenle fell for the bait.
“I guess it shouldn’t,” Chenle said. “I don’t have any condoms, though.”
Wouldn’t wanna get pregnant, after all!
“I have one in my wallet,” Mark said, to which Chenle rolled his eyes.
“Only enough for one round.”
“Damn, how many do you think we need?” Mark looked appalled. “Are you some sort of sex demon? How long are we supposed to go?”
Chenle didn’t bother answering, just saying, “If you cum before me, I’m killing you.”
And that seemed to slightly horrify the alpha, but it obviously didn’t deter him.
“That’s fine, I guess.”
The things that an alpha agrees to when they’re thinking with their dick amazes Chenle.
Despite the mutual agreement to have sex, things moved a little slow at first. It was awkward—very awkward.
“So…” Mark kneeled in between Chenle’s legs, hovering over the omega. “How should we, like, start this thing?”
“I mean…” The two of them were acting like clueless virgins. “You should probably get hard. What turns you on?”
“Do you kiss hook ups?” Mark asked.
“You want to kiss?”
“We don’t have to.”
The encounter was a lot of dancing around. Beating around the bush despite both of them having their own motivation for wanting to sleep together.
“Whatever.” Chenle settled for kissing Mark’s neck, his own mental gymnastics telling him that a neck kiss was less romantic than one on the lips. It took a minute for the alpha to adjust, but he melted into Chenle, his hands eventually grabbing his thighs, urging the omega to wrap them around his waist.
Soon, Chenle got tired of kissing him like that.
“Let me get on top,” he said, removing his lips from Mark’s neck, which led to Mark raising an eyebrow, donning a confused expression on his face. Chenle rolled his eyes for what must’ve been the fiftieth time that night. “I mean sit on your lap—I’m not trying to play in your ass. Calm down, alpha.”
Of course Mark wouldn’t have wanted that! They couldn’t have a baby that way!
“Oh, sorry.”
This time around Chenle decided that he’d go for Mark’s ear, nibbling his ear as he grinded down into Mark’s lap, his ass teasing the alpha’s cock through his pants.
The main reason that wasn’t a problem, though?
Because you kiss with your eyes closed.
Mark got the better of Chenle, flipping them over so that the omega was laying flat on his back again. Chenle was tempted to make a snide remark about Mark being vanilla and wanting to fuck missionary, but he was silenced by the alpha's lips on his neck, and his cold hands sneaking under his shirt.
It wasn’t that awkward when they took their shirts off, because when has it ever been weird to see a man, let alone your friend, shirtless? Never. It was even alright once their pants came off, because once again, since the world is so lenient towards men and their nudity, it’s not weird to see guys in their underwear.
But once Mark pulled his underwear down, letting his dick just spring out? It was like Chenle’s brain started to malfunction. It felt like he was seeing something that he wasn’t supposed to.
It only got worse when he let Mark pull off his own underwear, because he started to look at Chenle weirdly, like he wasn’t the person who egged this entire predicament on.
“Dude, your dick is kind of small.”
Chenle immediately crossed his legs, in awe that Mark would say that.
“You’re acting like this is your first time with an omega!” Chenle screeched, punching Mark in his arm. “Male omegas aren’t exactly known for being big.”
“Jeno was big.”
Well, because Jeno is Jeno and defies the odds of a male omega. Builds up muscle like an alpha, yet also manages to be as demure and spiritually petite as the ideal omega.
“Was Renjun big?” Maybe that was a low blow, since Renjun is smaller than most guys in most ways, but a point needed to be proven.
“No,” Mark grumbled. Renjun has always been a sore spot for Mark—having been his one that got away. Chenle thought that they were gonna get married, but then the relationship just started to spiral and spiral, until it ended with Chenle picking Mark up from the curb in front of Renjun’s apartment building at three in the morning. Honestly, Chenle always thought that Renjun was kind of cute. He had half a mind to ask Mark if he’d be okay with them bumping purses after the break up, but they didn’t exactly end on great terms, so Chenle was considerate enough to not actually do that.
“Then please manage your expectations,” Chenle scoffed. “Don’t alphas like it when omegas are little? It feeds into that toxic alpha pride.”
“It does,” Mark admitted. “But teasing you feeds into my pride more.”
“You’re gonna make me regret this,” Chenle groaned, somewhat reluctantly opening his legs back up. “Don’t make me regret this.”
Chenle wouldn’t have found it worth it to ruin the status quo of their friendship over some mediocre dick.
“Sorry.” Mark pecked him on his cheek, before bringing his fingers to Chenle’s ass. Before he could do anything, Chenle slapped his hand away.
“Just get on with it.” The best part of being a male omega? You don’t need to prep—it just fits. And in a situation like this where Chenle wasn’t exactly trying to savor the experience, just wanting to fuck and get it over with, it was very convenient.
“Oh, snappy.”
Chenle likes when stuff hurts a little. Not a lot, just a little. So it was a nice kind of hurt when Mark slid in, Chenle having to adjust to the feeling after his months of abstinence. And even better hurt when combined with the sting of Mark’s nails digging into his thighs. Words got caught up in Chenle’s throat, not wanting to compliment Mark on how big his dick was after he shamelessly size-shamed him. But eventually Chenle’s inhibitions started to leave his body, and he allowed himself a couple of praises and moans—just enough to let Mark know to keep going.
Until the inhibitions inevitably came back once his brain started malfunctioning again.
See, there was some sort of weird dissonance occurring. Obviously, Chenle’s body reacted well to Mark, seen by the slick that was soaking Chenle’s bedsheets (which got ruined so badly that he had to throw them out afterwards), but there was a weird sense of mental unrest whenever his eyes met Mark’s. Like his brain just couldn’t compute that his ‘totally-platonic best friend’ Mark was the one rearranging his guts. It was an odd feeling. His body felt good, with moans continually ringing out of his mouth, but he just felt wrong fucking Mark.
They were already well into it, though, and Chenle would be damned if he didn’t get to cum.
“Hold on.” He grabbed Mark’s arms, making the alpha stop. He probably could’ve communicated what he was doing better, because Mark definitely looked petrified when Chenle pushed him away, probably thinking that he did something wrong.
But all Chenle did was flip over, pressing his own face into a pillow as he arched his back, positioning himself in a way where he had no chance of seeing Mark’s face.
“We don’t have all night.” It took Mark a minute to get back to work, and Chenle wondered what the hold up was, but it wasn’t anything worth investigating.
Chenle wouldn’t say that the sex that night was mind blowing in any way, but it did scratch his itch.
There was an odd moment of silence once they finished. Chenle’s legs had reduced to jelly, causing him to just collapse into the little pool of slick and cum that had formed under him in the bed. He just laid there for a moment, not looking up until he felt the bed dip beside him. That was when he caught Mark just staring at him. They didn’t say anything for a few seconds, and the main thing on Chenle's mind in the moment was how Mark was staring at his lips, like he wanted a kiss. He didn’t go in for the kill, though, likely not wanting to push Chenle’s boundaries any further than they already had that night.
Eventually, Mark settled for pressing a kiss on Chenle’s cheek.
“What do you wanna eat?” Mark then asked. Chenle just shrugged, a rare action seeing as he tends to have an opinion on most things.
“I guess that we should, like, clean up, and then we’ll order something.”
And that’s exactly what they did.
- MAKING THE SECOND MOVE
The weeks following Chenle and Mark’s hook up were very normal. They didn’t really talk about it. It wasn’t because they were ashamed or anything, but more on the side that it was seemingly a one and done type of thing. They just fucked one time to get it out of their systems, and that was that.
Until Mark propositioned Chenle again at Jaemin’s birthday party.
Chenle tries not to think about that night too much—it was full of too much rejection, heartbreak, and crying for him to even think about it without physically feeling a pang in his stomach. God, Chenle doesn't even have feelings for Jisung anymore, but just remembering the way that he felt that night still hurts him.
What Chenle is fine with remembering, though? How Mark wiped his tears away.
Mainly, how he let Mark fuck his pain away. How he let the alpha pillow talk him, saying how Jisung was missing out, and how Chenle was definitely better than whatever omega he walked in on the alpha with.
It was very different from their first time, mainly because this time around Chenle hadn’t shied away from the ‘Mark’ aspect of the experience. The last time, he couldn’t even look Mark in the eyes while they did it, having to stop and switch positions so that he didn’t have to.
But the second time around? Chenle made sure that he never forgot it was Mark that he was sleeping with. They had to have been going at it for hours, and he and Mark just gave each other their everything all night long. Their lips never even made contact the first time around, with Chenle avoiding them like the plague, and Mark settling for kissing Chenle’s cheek like two times.
Their second hook up? Chenle couldn’t keep his lips off of Mark. He was comforting—everything that they did that night was comforting. It got so intense at one point that Mark almost mated Chenle—but the omega was still grounded enough in reality to stop that from happening.
And the best part about Chenle hooking up with his best friend instead of a random stranger?
He had someone to talk to afterwards.
Chenle’s always been pretty secure in himself. He knows that he’s pretty unconventional for an omega, but he’s always been fine with it. Sometimes it does kind of sting though, especially when you get rejected in favor of someone who fits the standards of what an omega ‘should be.’
Mark made him feel good. If anything, Mark made him feel great. What did it matter that stupid Jisung rejected Chenle, when Mark Lee, the alpha that all the omegas want, thought that he was good enough.
That felt pretty good.
So they laid there, freshly washed with the A/C blasting, cuddled up under the covers while they unpacked the events of the night.
That level of intimacy felt amazing. Chenle and Mark have never been the type to shy away with emotions with each other, so that was already a given. And then combining that with sexual compatibility? It shouldn’t have been a surprise once one night turned into two nights, and then two nights turned into every weekend, and then every weekend turned to literally whenever Mark or Chenle were in the mood.
They fucked themselves into a full blown friends with benefits arrangement.
The two of them were responsible and always used protection, and once Chenle realized that constant sex was just going to be the reality of their friendship for the foreseeable future, he decided to go the extra mile and get on birth control.
Wouldn’t wanna risk getting pregnant, right?
- POPPING THE QUESTION
By this point, Chenle would say that he and Mark had been fucking around for maybe two or three months. They were in kind of deep, especially since they spent Mark’s rut together.
Chenle doesn’t think that many people acknowledge it, but spending your mating cycle with somebody who isn’t your mate can be risky business. It’s a relationship altering experience, in the sense that once you spend someone’s most vulnerable moments with them, it changes how you see them permanently.
Chenle spent Jisung’s rut with him a couple of months prior, and that was a turning point in their relationship. The one that caused Chenle to catch feelings, which eventually led to the demise of their entire friendship.
He would say that Mark’s rut had a similar effect on him.
Despite knowing each other for so long, Chenle and Mark had never been around each other during their cycles. Chenle would just get a text from Mark saying that he’d be M.I.A. for the next week or so, and Chenle got the memo. It was the same vice versa.
The reason that Chenle would say that Mark’s rut changed things, was because their dynamic sort of flipped. Chenle and Mark have always bantered, never being able to let the other catch a break, but overall, Chenle has always been the one in charge in their friendship. Not that all friendships have someone who’s ’in charge’, but Chenle has always been the one to boss Mark around. He was the main shot-caller
Yeah, during Mark’s rut, that was not the case at all.
Chenle knows better than anyone how needy Mark can be, and he just may give in to him on a normal day—it’s never a guarantee. During Mark’s rut, on the other hand? Chenle was literally at his beck and call. The knot would just barely be deflated before Mark would start whining about how he was hungry, or thirsty, or how he felt sticky and wanted a wet rag, or how wanted a kiss. And under normal circumstances, if Mark wanted any of those things, Chenle would tell him to get up and do it himself, and not kiss him just because he asked.
But during Mark’s rut, if the alpha asked Chenle to jump, he would ask how high.
It was a mix of just straight instincts and Chenle just being kind of dickmatized—some aspects of omegahood being so coded into Chenle’s genes that he felt and incessant need to tend to Mark—and other parts where Mark just fucked Chenle so good that he wanted to do whatever the alpha asked of him. To the point where Chenle was having to buy new boxes of condoms every single day, since Mark insisted on knotting him like five times a day, and he allowed it, despite the recommended amount being only three. And for some reason, knotting condoms only come in packages of five (and not to mention are expensive as shit) which meant that they went through approximately thirty-five condoms during Mark’s rut.
Yeah.
So things became a little different after that week together, with Chenle becoming a bit more susceptible to Mark’s charms.
And that manifested one night when Chenle and Mark were ready to get busy.
Chenle’s hands dipped under the waistband of Mark’s boxers, pulling them down and letting the alpha’s dick spring out. They hadn’t even done anything yet and Chenle was already on cloud nine, having already become so familiar with Mark’s body that he could practically feel the alpha’s cock inside of him already.
Mark’s hand reached over to the box of condoms on the nightstand, grabbing one and gripping the edge of the wrapper between his teeth, ready to rip it open.
But then he hesitated.
“Can I ask you something?” Mark suddenly said, removing the condom from his mouth.
“Mhm,” Chenle hummed.
“You’re on birth control, right?”
“Yeah…” Chenle could already tell where things were going.
“You’re the only person I’m sleeping with.” Mark dropped the condom back into the box, as if he already knew that Chenle would give in. “And I’m the only person you’re sleeping with, right?”
Chenle hummed as confirmation.
“Is it okay if we do it without the condom?”
There it was.
Chenle thought about it for a minute. Yeah, he was on birth control, and the one he was on claimed to be highly effective. And both of them were clean—they decided to get tested back when they established that this would be a regular arrangement.
Chenle trusted Mark.
“Yeah, that’s fine.”
So yeah, Chenle (maybe naively, maybe completely reasonably for the information he had at the time) let Mark hit it raw. And if he thought that sex with Mark normally felt good, the extra skin on skin made all of the difference. Not even just in a physical sense.
They’re animals, after all, and while the more rational human parts of their brain know that sex can be a purely recreational act—the more animalistic parts prioritize the reproductive nature of it.
So, you can imagine how good it felt to feed into that—taking the condom off and giving your body exactly what it was craving. Feeding into those primal urges, giving the wolf inside of you some peace of mind knowing that you’re doing your part—reproducing and populating the species, continuing your lineage.
Which, of course, wasn’t truly the case—because Chenle was on birth control. Sure, their extra level of safety was gone, but at least they still had something.
So, of course, this became the norm
- THE KILLING BLOW
Mark already pretty much got his way with Chenle. They were fucking on the regular, and fucking raw. Things were good for both of them, really. Chenle even found himself navigating life with a more positive outlook—having not even realized how sexually frustrated he was before their “relationship” started.
He would say that this was his and Mark’s highest point. They were doing a lot together, navigating their relationship almost like a couple. They were going on hangouts that were really just dates. There were movie theater outings, many fancy restaurants that Mark just happened to find online that he wanted to try out. Mark started popping up to Chenle’s job on his lunch break with food, and they’d sit in the car and eat together. Chenle had never really thought of Mark as a ‘Food-as-a-love-language’ kind of guy, but he was making sure that Chenle ate well.
They were having an amazing time. And in the midst of that amazing time, Chenle noticed something about his body changing.
“Do I look like I gained weight?” He asked Mark one day. His clothes were starting to fit differently, and he didn’t even realize until he put on a pair of jeans and realized how tightly they fit around his hips.
Asking someone else about weight gain is always kind of awkward for the other person, so Chenle already knew what the answer was when Mark just shrugged in response.
“That was kind of out of nowhere,” Chenle grumbled, spinning around in the mirror.
And then Mark asked a question.
“Didn’t you say that your new birth control might cause you to gain weight?”
Not long before that, Chenle had switched to a new birth control. His doctor also mentioned that a lot of omegas reported weight gain after starting it, so to be mindful of that, but Chenle hadn’t really heeded the warning.
“It does,” he answered, now kind of bothered by the fact that the medicine did exactly what the doctor said it probably would.
“Do you think it’s your birth control?”
“Probably.”
“Does the weight gain bother you?”
It wasn’t that it bothered Chenle, necessarily. He was fine with the little bit of extra weight that he gained so far, but since the increase happened so fast, he was worried that it might spiral out of control.
“I mean, maybe?” He didn’t really know how to articulate that to Mark without getting into a bunch of detail. They were supposed to be getting ready to go out to dinner, so he wasn’t really interested in engaging in a detailed conversation about that at the moment.
In retrospect, the weight gain was probably a mixture of the birth control, along with Chenle’s new eating habits. He and Mark were going on lunch and dinner dates almost everyday, and Mark was feeding Chenle way more than he used to, which was a huge change in diet compared to how Chenle was eating before. It wasn’t fair for him and Mark to blame it all on the birth control like they did. A shift back to his old diet would’ve probably caused the pounds to melt off
“You could switch birth controls,” Mark suggested.
Chenle sighed. “But I literally just switched. I don’t wanna do it again.”
And then Mark made the final suggestion that sealed Chenle’s fate.
“How about you get off of it for now, then. Just to see what happens.”
And that’s exactly what Chenle did.
Along with ditching his birth control, despite it being common sense that going back to using condoms would be the sensible thing to do, they in fact did not do that. At first, Chenle was worried, and he did verbalize it, but he let Mark get in his head. Looking back, that was really dumb too, because why would Chenle let an alpha tell him how an omega’s body worked? Mark made a bunch of dumb excuses, like how nothing would happen since Chenle was only going to be off of the pill for a short amount of time. Or how male omega’s have a low fertility rate, so a couple of weeks without protection would be fine.
And Chenle really listened to that bullshit. He trusted Mark, so he let the alpha assure him that everything would be fine. They’ve known each other for nearly half of their lives, so why would Mark ever purposely lead Chenle astray?
So now, several weeks later, Chenle is now sitting knocked up on his bathroom floor.
Now, you may be wondering what the first stage, ‘PLANTING THE SEED’, had to do with the plan.
Well, deep down, because of Mark’s flattery at the start, Chenle is actually considering keeping the pregnancy, which he feels like would’ve been uncharacteristic of him prior to that. Chenle never really cared to think about having kids of his own. He loved his nephew, and he loved Donghyuck’s son, but Chenle never really considered actually having a kid. Like permanently. One that he couldn’t just give back to their parents.
So now, with the knowledge that Mark purposely impregnated him, it’s up to Chenle to decide what to do with that information. On one hand, he could silently get rid of it and get back on birth control, and then just pretend that this never happened.
Or, Chenle could let Mark successfully baby trap him, and keep the baby.
Chenle swears that his decision hasn’t been made yet, but deep down he knows that it has. Just the fact that he’s reaching for his phone to call Mark instead of the Planned Parenthood is enough for him to know.
“What are you doing?” Chenle immediately asks once Mark picks up the phone.
“Uh, nothing. What’s up?”
“Come over.”
Chenle hangs up immediately after, not even wanting Mark to try and explain himself over the phone. In the meantime, Chenle tries to sort out his own feelings.
He has to be honest—he is angry. Mark propositioned him for a ‘one night hook up’, with the long term goal of knocking him up! No matter how you flip it, that’s fucked up. It’s deceitful.
On the other end, with the more fucked up part of Chenle’s own brain taking over, he can’t help but admire Mark’s expertise.
He successfully baby trapped Chenle without even directly baby trapping him. He didn’t poke any holes in their condoms, and he didn’t fuck with Chenle’s birth control in any way. He just caused Chenle to gradually lower his guard, until he was left completely vulnerable and unsuspecting.
If anything, Chenle’s own naivety caused him to get stuck in this situation. He let Mark convince him to stop using condoms, and get off of birth control one after another? And he didn’t get suspicious at all? Didn’t think that he was being misled?
God, he didn’t know that he could be that dumb.
But, having a baby with Mark wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, would it?
Then again, with the level of calculation (and lowkey manipulation) that it took for Mark to orchestrate this entire thing, Chenle has to seriously wonder if having a kid with him is a good idea.
But also, maybe he would want his child to inherit that intelligence.
Mark is a good guy. He’s always been an upstanding guy. A man among men, if you will. An alpha among alphas. He’s always given Chenle the family man kind of vibe. Sure, he has his quirks, just like any young man does, but Chenle could see him stepping up to the plate and being a good dad. And gosh, Chenle knows that so many omegas would kill to be in his place. The amount of people who have had crushes on Mark since they were young? It’s always been more than Chenle could count in two hands.
Mark is a great guy, so shouldn’t Chenle be honored that he went so far just to make sure that he would be the one to have his kid?
But still…Chenle has his doubts. Mark was able to pull the cloth over his eyes for so many months. Their whole relationship, if you could even call in that, because they were never official, seemed so innocent. Just a hook up, that turned into Mark providing Chenle with desperately needed comfort, to them pretty much dating without the title.
Mark is horrible!
And before Chenle can further process his emotions, and hope to get some sort of rational state of mind before Mark’s arrival, he hears footsteps padding down his hallway.
Must’ve let himself in.
Chenle huffs, grabbing all four pregnancy tests and storming out of the bathroom. Mark is wearing a huge smile on his face, but it quickly falls once Chenle chucks all of the tests right at him.
“You’re a fucking asshole!”
“Woah, woah, woah.” Mark grabs Chenle’s arms, stopping the omega from pushing him away. “What’s wrong?”
“Don’t act stupid!” Chenle is becoming hysterical, yelling as he tries to rip himself away from Mark. “You did this on purpose!”
Mark seems lost on what to do—and Chenle hopes that he can put his very high intelligence to good use here.
“You took advantage of me!” Chenle kneels down, grabbing the pregnancy tests before holding them up to Mark one by one. “You got me pregnant on purpose! You got me pregnant! I couldn’t even get a ring, or a mating bite, or even a boyfriend before a fucking baby!”
Before Chenle can tear into Mark any more, the alpha commands him.
“Omega, calm down.”
And against his will, Chenle is forced to calm down. Just standing up and placing the pregnancy tests in Mark’s open palm.
Gosh, he hates when Mark goes all alpha on him.
“Explain yourself.” Chenle sighs.
He expects Mark to at least try and defend himself, say that it was just a coincidence and he didn’t plan anything.
Instead, he smiles again as he wraps his arms around Chenle’s waist, pulling him in for a hug.
“Congratulations.”
Chenle came out of the bathroom screaming and yelling at him, and all the alpha can say is ‘Congratulations.’
“Explain yourself,” Chenle demands, but it’s all bark, no bite as he wraps his arms around Mark, hugging him back.
“Do you really want me to?” Mark asks, and even though Chenle has been forcefully pacified, he still manages to get a bit irritated again.
“Of course I fucking want you to.” He lets go of Mark, and then grabs his arm and drags him to the couch. “Was I just supposed to not question this? Just have the baby and be in La-la-land?”
Mark is silent, which leads Chenle to believe that was exactly the plan.
“Mark.” Chenle deadpans, glaring at the alpha as he plays around with the tests in his hand. “Just say something.”
“You know, I’m getting up there in age–”
“You’re twenty-five.”
“Baby, hush.” Mark presses his finger to Chenle’s lips, making the omega scoff at him. “So, I just thought that maybe now was the time. And you see my last two relationships didn’t work, so I thought that my cute best friend would do the trick.”
Chenle refuses to be flattered by Mark calling him cute, instead saying, “So you didn’t think to ask first?”
“Would you have said yes?”
Well, Chenle a year ago would’ve sure as hell said no.
“I wouldn’t.”
“So I thought that a natural progression of our relationship would make you say yes.”
“But it wouldn’t make me say yes,” Chenle argues. “There was nothing to say yes to, ‘cause you didn’t even ask!”
Mark scratches his head, seeming a little loss for words—as if he didn’t expect this argument to happen. Which is stupid. Just because Chenle became a little whipped for him didn’t mean that he wouldn’t still expect an explanation.
“I’m sorry?”
Chenle smacks Mark on the back of his head. “What’s wrong with you! Imagine what would’ve happened if you tried this with any other omega besides me!” Chenle can only imagine. They would’ve kicked Mark to the curb, maybe had one of their alpha friends or family members beat him up. Gosh, smartass Mark can be so stupid sometimes!
“Ouch!” Mark whines. In the old days, Mark would’ve definitely hit Chenle back, but with this new something-like-romantic relationship, along with Chenle being pregnant, that would be totally inappropriate. “That’s why I did it to you and not another omega!”
Chenle gasps. “I thought you loved me!” He’s being dramatic, he doesn’t really think all of that. “But you just used me for my body! Asshole!”
Mark pouts, before grabbing Chenle’s face and trying to kiss him. “I do love you!”
This leads to a bit of playful fighting, with Mark desperately trying to kiss Chenle, and the omega pushing him away. Eventually, Chenle relents, letting Mark plant an unnecessarily wet and sloppy kiss on his lips.
“Gross,” Chenle groans as he uses his wrist to wipe his mouth, before rubbing Mark’s saliva back on him.
“Hey!” Mark whines, leaning into Chenle’s side. “So, are you gonna keep it?”
Chenle sighs, resting a hand on Mark’s head and petting his hair. “If I wasn’t, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation right now.”
So yeah, maybe Chenle is letting himself be trapped.
(“I agreed to have your baby, where’s my mating bite?” Chenle asks. “Or my wedding ring, or something! My parents are gonna chew me out for getting pregnant out of wedlock!”
Mark chuckles. “That’s if they even believe you.”
“Hey!” Despite Chenle’s response, he knows that Mark is right.
“Are you ready for a mating bite?” Mark asks. “I can bite you right now.”
Chenle sighs, thinking that maybe they should give it a bit more time. “No, I’m not. But I still need a ring.”
“I’ll get you the biggest diamond in the store, baby.”)
