Chapter Text
Unlike how you remember Trollhunters… What if someone else found the amulet..? That wasn't Jim, or Toby, or even Draal..? What if they never even existed in the original show..? This is the story of how Ollie Hopps became the Trollhunter… and how she changed the fate of everything by simply being early… somehow… If Jim can be the Trollhunter since he was late, Ollie can be the Trollhunter by being early!
Ollie started to pack her bag, and she made her own lunch. Which was a sandwich and some chips. She grabbed a pack of gummies and some chocolate. You could never go wrong with chocolate.
She was wearing a dark blue shirt, black leggings and a black skirt. She was also wearing dark blue arm and leg warmers. She also had makeup on, which was black lip gloss and black eyeshadow with some mascara and eyeliner. Her red hair was half shaved off, a little piece of her hair rested in front of her face. Kinda like an anime character with their ahoge. She wore skull earrings and a choker with a skull charm. Her green eyes stood out from the red hair, complementing her face which was covered in freckles. She had black nail polish on. She also had DIY shoes, being painted with intricate patterns and paws. She also put on her homemade yarn tail.
She grabbed her sketchbook and pencil case. Shoving the pencil case into her skirt pockets. She grabbed a helmet and put it on. She put her sketchbook into her messenger bag with her lunch. She also grabbed her binder and shoved it in. She also put her water bottle inside as well. She closed the bag and put it on.
She took her wireless earbuds and put them on. She turned on Epic the musical and started to head to the garage. She danced to the first song in the musical, Infant and The Horse, and the whole musical in general, was amazing.
Ollie went into the garage and got her bike. She opened the garage and walked out with her bike. She closed the garage then started to bike off. She took a few moments to take in her neighborhood. Like anyone would, right? She was still quite new to the neighborhood so it wasn't going to be odd for her to be looking around.
She took a route that was highlighted on her GPS. It took her towards the canals. She didn't see why she had to move to America. But she would have to deal with it. She decided to stop by the canals. She noticed movement by the bridge, Ollie debated if she should go check it out. Of course her curiosity got the better, so she biked over to the bridge.
She picked up a lot of speed going down the canals. She pulled on the breaks and she could feel herself lift off the seat, she started to turn and rolled off her bike. Her leggings ripped on the pavement. Her knee started to bleed.
This is JUST my LUCK, isn't it? She cursed in her head. Getting up, she hadn't even realized that Full Speed Ahead was playing. What a coincidence, huh? Fitting song for the moment though.
She grabbed her pencil case out of her skirt pocket and opened it up. She grabbed the bandaids she shoved in there for no reason and took one and slapped it on. It wasn't painful or anything, just annoying.
She stood up and looked towards the bridge. She brushed off her legs and skirt and started to walk closer. The sounds of her earrings could be heard as she walked closer.
A blue, stone creature, wearing armour was fighting a black stone creature with no armour on the underside of the bridge. Ollie grabbed her pencil and prepared to start stabbing. She would help whoever was the good creature. The world needed more good things, because idiots kept on taking them away.
"Need any help?!" Ollie shouted towards the two, getting the attention of the black one. The blue one tackled him to the ground. "I'm on my way!"
She ran towards the two, she wanted to help. She had to help! She took off her messenger bag and prepared to use it as a weapon. It had a metal water bottle, a hundred markers, her lunch and a sketchbook inside. Her feet pattered on the ground as she ran. The DIY paws on her shoes and her handmade yarn tail made her look less human. Her phone was in her pocket and her earbuds had fallen out on her fall.
"Stay back!" the armoured one said. The black one had gotten out of his hold and started to run towards Ollie. "RUN!"
"You don't scare me!" Ollie said, ignoring the blue creature. She threw her bag at the black one's face. "You don't even LOOK scary!" She could feel herself sweating. She grabbed her pencil and prepared to start stabbing the black thing, but they stopped for a bit and threw the bag on the ground.
"Do you have a death wish," the black thing said, walking up to Ollie. She started to smile. She might look insane, but being an artist, wasn't that already true? Plus, some people already thought she was a potential murderer. "Fleshbag?"
She stood her ground, her pencil prepared to stab any weak points as she observed the thing's body. The eyes seemed like an obvious choice. So she prepared to stab those first once the black creature got closer.
"I might," Ollie responded, looking into orange eyes. "But at least I won't go down without a fight, sometimes you just have to improvise with what you got." she didn't dare break eye contact. If she was going to die, she was going to make herself memorable. "My~ you even got pretty orange eyes! They almost look red or even yellow!"
The blue one attacked the black one from behind. Ollie was definitely going to be memorable to these creatures. Whatever they are… but that did not matter at that moment! A fight was going on!
She jumped at the black thing and jabbed her pencil into the black stone, it didn't do anything but break the pencil. She shoved that one into her pocket and grabbed out another one. Ollie took her chance and got on the black one's head. She took her pencil and stabbed them in the face. Taking out an eye before she was flung off.
She looked at the pencil in hand. A red-orange-yellow eye was now on the pencil. The eye laid around the middle point on the pencil. She was surprised that it gave her pride. She got up and went to grab her bag. She grabbed its strap before feeling herself being lifted off the ground. She looked at who was holding her and sighed in relief.
The blue armoured creature had picked her. He started to run towards the direction of her bike and set her on the ground and shoved her into the sun. She turned around and was about to start protesting.
Ollie could see how bloody her hands were. She was going to the nurses office once she got to school. She had lots of scrapes and probably a broken bone or two. She looked into the eyes of the person(?) holding her.
"You need to get out of here, you are already injured," is all he said. Ollie looked into his golden eyes. "I can't protect you if you're putting yourself in harm's way."
"Because I don't think I could live with myself if I knew that I could have changed something!" Ollie pleaded, she needed to help him. Something in her was telling her too. "If you end up dying if I leave, I don't think I could move on from that!" she grabbed the strap of her bag tighter. She was 100% going to have bruises. "If you won't let me help you, could I at least get your name? I am Ollie, Ollie Hopps."
"Well then, Ollie," he said, looking back then towards her again. "I am Kanjigar the Courageous. The Trollhunter."
"You look like a troll."
"That's because I am a troll. I hunt the bad ones." Kanjigar said, putting Ollie back on the ground and shoved her into the sun. It was odd but ok. "Now get out of here."
Ollie gave him two thumbs up and ran back to her bike. Not to run away like he would like, no. It was to grab her earbuds so they didn't get wrecked. She grabbed them off the ground and put them in their case. Shoving them into her pocket.
She got onto her bike and started to bike towards where the fight was happening. The sun hasn't even fully risen and she was choosing violence. And she was seen as the peacemaker of her friend groups! This was really getting the adrenaline pumping in a way that a carnival ride never could.
She saw the black troll and started to get ready to run into them with her bike. She found a good place that could act as a ramp. Ollie peddled faster and before long, she was airborne. She made an impact with black stone. She had the air knocked out of her, but the two both came tumbling down. Ollie somehow stayed on her bike, she drifted to the side and started to pant.
As soon as she got enough air in her lungs she started to peddle again. Biking around back into the sun. Ollie had no idea how she was still alive right now. Fighting a troll? She must have hit her head hard or this was actually happening. If this was just some weird dream, she wasn't complaining.
"Try and catch me!" Ollie shouted, speeding close to the shadows. As soon as she heard running behind her did she start to go more into the sun. "I'm not as weak as I look!"
She heard some hissing and turned around. She saw the black troll's hand turn gray. He growled at Ollie as if it were her fault. He then went after Kanjigar, who was on the bridge. She didn't think she could fight up on the beams of the bridge. She wasn't that skilled, all she had was a bike, some pencils, and a messenger bag. She would be the ground support then. If she couldn't help directly, then she would help indirectly.
She lost track of where the two were. All she could hear were their swords. She then saw stone falling from the sky.
"KANJIGAR!" Ollie shouted, she got off her bike and threw it to the side to start running towards the troll. But she was too late. He impacted the concrete bed of the canals and shattered. "NOOO!"
She scrambled to get to his shattered remains. She tripped a few times but she got right back up each time. Once she got to his remains, it looked like any other pile of rubble. But this rubble was of someone she barely got to meet. And someone she wished she could know better. But that was no longer an option.
"No, no, no, no, no…" Ollie said, she started to tear up.
"Ollie Hopps…"
Ollie opened her eyes. She didn't even know she closed them, nor did she care. She dug through the remains and found what was calling her name.
It was a blue and grey amulet. It was intricate and carefully crafted. And certainly old by the design, she hugged the amulet before she shoved it in her pocket. Shit, she was going to be late on her first day.
She got up and started to bike away. That was one thing to add to her horror story ideas. Why was she getting motivation to write from this? Eh, she would start writing it once she got home. She had to get to a nurses office at school. And get away from the black troll.
Six eyes watched unnoticed from the sewer entrance.
"The amulet… chose a human..?"
…
Ollie was in history. She just witnessed a death that morning and she couldn't tell anyone! And if she did, she would sound insane, which is not what she needed right now. She had opened up her sketchbook and started to draw Kanjigar. She didn't exactly know what the amulet was for but it was a part of his armour. So it must be important to it. She drew the details of armour. She could remember them vividly.
She could also tell the teachers it was an oc. They wouldn't question where it came from, most likely. Probably the details and how it was accurate. Lots of complements too. She was used to this life though. She was startled by the bell, almost messing up a line. She started to get up before she heard her teacher's voice.
"Ollie, I noticed you were drawing during class," Mr. Stricklander said. "What may you have drawn?"
"Oh uh…" Ollie opened up her sketchbook again. "I thought that I might try experimenting with making a few mythology based creatures and armour, would you like to see?"
"Sure."
Ollie turned the book towards her teacher as she grabbed her other things and started to get ready to leave.
"Where did you get the uh…" paused. "The idea to make this?"
"I just thought that the myths on trolls was interesting and decided to make a character with it," Ollie lied, she took the sketchbook back and started to leave. "You know artists, making stuff up in their heads! The price of creativity is sanity, the price of art is one's grasp on reality. I'll see you around !"
"See you around young Athena."
…
It was now gym class, one of Ollie's least favourite classes from her last school. She had to climb a rope though, it wasn't that hard though, but it was still a struggle. But she did make it. She slid down the rope, she was so happy for the bandages she wrapped around her hands to hide what happened earlier that morning.
"That was a workout," Ollie said, wiping the sweat from her brow. "I'm going to go sit down over there now." Ollie pointed towards the bleachers, she walked over and sat down on them.
Some of the other girls were talking with each other. Ollie didn't really bother with socializing with them. She grabbed her water bottle and drank some water. Her black nails tapped the metal creating such a satisfying sound. She didn't care if she was seen as weird for stimming. It felt good. She was sitting criss crossed and her free hand rested between her legs. She hadn't noticed that the girls had walked over to her.
"Hey, so you're the new kid?" Said a girl with black hair with a blue streak in it. "I'm Claire, this is Darci and this is Mary."
"Hey, the names Ollie," She said, putting her water bottle down. "So, why are you three talking to me?"
"Well, you're new here," Claire said, sitting next to Ollie. "So, are you into acting? Because we need actors for Romeo and Juiliete."
"I have a couple of things I have to deal with…" Ollie said, looking at the floor. "Someone I know recently passed and it's been tough…" It was not quiet, it was awkward silence. "We should start getting ready to go to our next class."
"Sorry about your loss…" Claire said as the four girls got up and headed towards the change rooms.
Ollie opened the door and let the other girls walk in before her. She was used to doing it, she did it alot and it was polite. But it didn't exactly seem that way to three. Probably a Canadian teaching then, since the three did seem a little nicer towards her in their demeanors. Weird, definitely weird.
…
It was close to the end of the day. Ollie noticed a crowd near one of the lockers.
"Now, what did you say you saw?" a strong looking blonde asked, his hand was on the door of the locker. "Creatures made of stone?"
Ollie walked over and pushed the crowd out of her way. Finding her way to the center. To where she could see the blonde face to face.
"I saw them by the bridge!" a kid said from within the locker. "On my way to school!"
"Let him out of the locker blondy," Ollie said, crossing her arms. "I'm prepared to fight you if I have to."
"Well then, shall we?" he said, definitely the school's resident bully. "What can you even do? You don't even look like you can fight!"
The blonde boy got into a fighting stance as did Ollie. She took note of it and changed her stance. She was taught how to fight by her father, and she was going to make him proud by beating up a jerk like this kid here.
She punched him in the nose, he was clearly not prepared to be hit that hard as he stumbled back. His hands cupped his nose, Ollie was surprised how quickly he backed off. The blonde brought his hand away from his face and it was covered in blood.
"My nose is bleeding?!" He said, putting his hand back. "You hit hard for how skinny you are!"
"I'm surprised you're backing off that easily," Ollie said, licking the blood off her knuckles. "Normally it takes more hits than one!"
He walked off, most likely to the nurses office. Ollie walked to the locker and opened it up. A brown haired kid fell out. He was quite skinny, like Ollie herself. She offered the kid a hand and helped him up.
"My names Ollie, Ollie Hopps," Ollie said, she used her other hand to comb her hair. "What may your name be?"
"I'm Eli," he said, "Eli Pepperjack. It's a pleasure to meet you Ollie."
He held his hand in front of him to shake hands with Ollie. Who happily did so, what else was she to do? She didn't want to look rude.
"Say, wanna be friends?" Ollie said, the crowd was no longer there, leaving to go do their after school activities. "You can say n-"
"YES!" Eli said, "I mean, sure! I wouldn't mind being friends with you Ollie!"
Ollie smiled, she made her fifth friend at Arcadia. He seemed like the type of person she would hang out with back in Canada. Maybe this wouldn't be that bad, after all. She had a talking amulet and knew trolls existed. What else could happen? Aliens?
…
Ollie was home, she grabbed her paints and paintbrushes and some canvas to use in the basement as her craft room. She walked down the stairs and was met with another troll. Well, two trolls actually. She shrugged and kept going down the stairs. This morning was already weird enough.
"So…" Ollie said, putting the art supplies on a table. "What are you two doing in my basement..?"
"Ah, Master Ollie!" The two armed one said. "I am Blinkous Galadrigal, but my friends call me Blinky. And this my friend AAARRRGGHH!"
"With three r's" AAARRRGGHH! said, putting up three fingers.
"Ill keep that in mind, big guy," Ollie said, sitting on the table. "So, why are you two here?"
"You are the Trollhunter!" Blinky said, Ollie grabbed the amulet from her skirt pocket and looked at it.
"So this thing chooses the next Trollhunter?" Ollie asked, waving the amulet in the air. "I'm going to guess I don't have a choice in this either? If so, what do I need to do?"
"Well! We must start your training," Blinky said, "We shall bring you to heartstone trollmarket so you can train!"
"Straight to the point, I like that," Ollie said, "Lead the way then!"
…
They were back at the canals after the sun had set. Ollie didn't want to be back here after what happened that morning. Seeing someone die is never a good experience, even if you are a horror enthusiast. Who hopes to see blood and gore… yeah, Ollie had gotten multiple comments on being a murderer. It got to the point where her dad offered to help her hide a body if she did murder someone… good times.
"Why are we here..?" Ollie asked, she had put the amulet onto a necklace, so she didn't have to transfer it from pocket to pocket. She made the necklace adjustable. "I don't see what could possibly be h- OOOOOoooooh!"
AAARRRGGHH! had used some crystal to open a portal thingy which was cool. This must be where Trollmarket was. This was weird, she was this close to this place without even knowing.
Ollie walked through, she waited for the two trolls to come through as well. They were her guides, she didn't know this place like those two. AAARRRGGHH! pressed something that made some crystals glow. Revealing a crystal staircase. Ollie couldn't help but gasp in awe of the beautiful crystals. She noticed the other two going down the stairs so she went as well. The stairs were quite large, too large for her liking but manageable.
She hoped from one step to the next. Her fake tale bobbing up and down. Giving it the illusion of a real tail. Her false paws added to her inhuman appearance. Many would call her an animal back in school. Humans were animals though, mammals to be exact! They were always going to be animals, no matter how polite or sophisticated they got. Humans would always be animals.
Ollie had grabbed her messenger bag before coming to Trollmarket. Never knew when you needed your art supplies! Once she reached the bottom, she was met with the beauty of Heartstone Trollmarket. She was amazed by how beautiful the place was. She had no words to describe! The colourful crystals lining each wall like someone long ago had sprinkled them in there without much care and let them grow.
The bustling market that surrounded the biggest crystal, which was orange-ish yellow-ish colour. It was jaw droppingly gorgeous. No painting could mimic this place's beauty! She had no regrets in becoming the Trollhunter if she got to see this everyday! It was worth whatever it cost, at least for now.
It reminded her of when people came to her home country and were awed by the forests and plants. Which she thought was odd but now Ollie thinks she understands what they felt. Maybe she could bring them to see Canada? They probably already saw the place so it was probably no. But she could dream, right?
"Welcome to Heartstone Trollmarket!" Blinky said, putting a hand on Ollie's back. "Now come along, your training awaits!" Blinky was quite enthusiastic about talking about her training. SHe would probably have to share her skill, and probably show him the eye she won as a trophy from not dying in a fight with a black troll. "Now stay close Ollie, no human has set foot in Trollmarket before!"
Ollie only nodded, amazed by what she was seeing. This was absolutely gorgeous! She followed Blinky into Trollmarket, she looked at what was being sold at each stand. Curious if they had any shiny jewelry she could get for herself. She had an amulet already, but that was more of a responsibility than anything. And she could use a new bracelet of two while she was training. Maybe even some more art supplies and a new hobby?
They were stopped by some blue troll that looked an awful like Kanjigar. Ollie would refrain from speaking about the fallen Trollhunter. She had to act like she didn't know the guy, which would feel awful but it's what one is willing to sacrifice to prove they weren't a threat or something they weren't.
"What is a human doing here?!" He asked, looking at Ollie with golden eyes. She gave the blue troll a nervous wave.
"She is the new Trollhunter," Blinky said, pushing her forward. "Say what is on the amulet," he whispered into her ear. Ollie could feel how nervous she was. Anxiety attack anyone? Because this just became hell. Well, hell for an introvert.
"I-uh ok..?" She whispered back before clearing her throat. She grabbed the amulet from where it rested on her chest, just below her rabbit necklace.
"For the glory of Merlin, daylight is mine to command," Ollie said, armour being lifted into the air and having armour form around her. "Did not expect this!" Ollie was amazed at how the armour got on. Just snapping on like they were designed for her, and her only. Which was odd but nice.
Once she was back on the ground, did she take notice of the weight of the armour? It wasn't the heaviest thing but it still was heavy. It was odd, she looked back at the blue troll in front of her. Ollie could feel all the eyes on her, she hated that. She wished so much that she could just melt into the shadows and never be seen again. At least the shadows didn't judge you.
The blue guy kinda just walked away, he looked pretty mad. Maybe he was the son of Kanjigar? That would explain the twos similarities with the two being related. Which also means that whoever that was felt entitled to be the next Trollhunter. So yikes for her. Since she couldn't exactly give it to him. She didn't know how to do that. If she did, she would have happily given it to him if he was worthy.
Maybe that was why Ollie was the Trollhunter? She didn't exactly know how this whole thing worked. This whole thing was weird to her. Like someone was messing with her head for shits and giggles.
Ollie got out of the armour and followed Blinky to whatever the hero's forge was. She just hoped it wasn't anything too weird. As long she didn't have to do any impossible feats to be seen as an actual worthy person to wield the title of Trollhunter. She's already lived this long, what's the worst that could happen?
Spoiler alert, so many worse things can happen. With or without planning…
Now Ollie would have to train, right..?
Once they got to the hero's forge, Ollie was met with an old-looking troll who was mostly white. With some pale pink added in. He also looked blind. Ollie just hoped she could make a good impression with him.
"This is Vendel," Blinky said, introducing the white troll. "Leader of Heartstone Trollmarket."
Ollie did a little bow to not seem rude, kinda like the ones people do on stage after a performance, she had done them before being a ballerina once before. She noticed that they had some older mannerisms, she would try to be respectful by doing what she saw people do around important people in movies. Along with how people acted around the royals of England. "I am Ollie Hopps, daughter of Stella Hopps and Glenn Hopps."
"I see you know your manners young lady," Vendel responded, Ollie was standing tall again, she felt less pressure on her. It felt nice to say the least. "Let's see if you are truly worthy of being the Trollhunter."
"If we must," Ollie responded, being as formal as she could get. Of course the custom shoes and yarn tail made her look less… professional? She didn't know how to scale her outfit on the formal scale, but it was definitely nowhere NEAR the top but nowhere near the bottom either. It was above other people's normal, everyday attire to most people's standards. She even had a couple of her friends back in Canada envy her style. She felt homesick but she ignored it, she couldn't let that get in the way of this.
This weird machine appeared, it was quite complex.
That was over, she was so happy to have kept her arm. Why did she choose to use her right arm? At least she trusted that damn thing with her useful arm or she would have thrown hands, or hand, with someone if she lost her right arm. She needed it to DRAW! And WRITE! Plus, how was she supposed to explain her ENTIRE ARM being gone at school? She was no longer in a great mood. She had to train now, which was just GREAT.
She noticed how the entire room was rigged with devices that could kill someone for the sake of training. Great horror story ideas. Why were the trolls giving her these ideas? She was basically a super villain in her head! Creating and torturing imaginary people to write stories about. And everyone would blame the villain and not the writer. When you think about it. The writer is the true villain. And yet they were also the true hero, a writer is a true manipulator of emotions.
Ollie was gracefully dodging blades, of course she wasn't always successful in dodging the entire thing, she was happy she chose to wear the armour. Or her clothes would be WRECKED and she did not have the sewing experience to fix them. She was just happy when the training was over and she was handed a book to read.
Once she got home, she flopped onto her bed after removing her makeup and leaving her shoes at the door like a reasonable human being. She took off her clothes and put them in the dirty laundry hamper and put on her pajamas. She opened the book Blinky handed her and began to read it. It was already interesting, she could probably finish the book in a week if she wanted to. She loved to read, horror being her favourite genre.
Before long, the sun had risen and she would have to go to school. She grabbed her mask that she bought around Halloween time, it was plastic and inaccurate design of the lower half of the human skull.
She put on the same outfit as yesterday, just different clothes besides the skirt. She did her makeup pretty quickly then packed her lunch. She shoved them into her messenger bag and kept the amulet under her shirt.
She turned on some classical music, specifically the Nutcracker Ballet and headed off to school. She took her bike once more, with her helmet on because safety first. And rode off to school. Today was going to be like any other school day.
Watching from the shadows, Bular watched the teenager bike away from her home. She was an odd one. Bular could tell by the way she dressed she did not wish to be confined by human standards. Truly an odd human indeed. He would have to discuss this with Stricklander…
