It was times like this that Lily thought about the flower on her hat.
A sunset red lily. Quite fitting for her name. And quite fitting for this moment as well.
Currently, she was sitting on a branch of one of the highest trees in Smurf Village, watching as the sky turned red, orange and pink as the sun went down. She let out a sigh before turning to her companion.
Moxie. Smurfette’s cousin and one of the many new friends they’ve made since learning about the Smurfs on the other side of the Wall.
And…her current crush at this moment.
Once again, her hand went to the spot where Moxie had kissed her. For the past few weeks, Moxie had kissed her more than once on the cheek and held her hand sometimes when they were going somewhere .
She had tried to ask why but she couldn’t get the words out of her mouth. Which had resulted in much teasing from the others, mostly Storm and Smurfette.
…Well, this afternoon, she was going to do it. She was going to do it or die trying. Probably not the latter though.
She was going to do it or suffer for the rest of her life. Yeah, that was better.
She was going to do it. She could do it. She would confess to Moxie.
And then she made eye contact with Moxie and all her courage vanished in an instant. Heat rushed to her cheeks as she looked away, unable to look Moxie in the eyes.
“It sure is beautiful, huh?” Moxie remarked.
“Y-Yep,” Lily then blurted out quietly, “And so are you.”
“Thanks for the compliment, Lils,” Moxie smirked as Lily squeaked, “Though…so are you.”
Lily blushed, feeling like curling up into a ball and dying.
“So…any reason why you wanted to bring me up here?” Moxie asked, tilting her head, “It seems like you brought me up here for something else than just enjoying the view so…what is it?”
“I…” Lily said, eyes darting around as she looked for any chance to escape. Moxie’s smile dropped in concern.
“Seriously, are you okay?” Moxie asked, “If it’s something serious…you can tell me. If you feel comfortable. I won’t say anything. It’ll be our secret, I promise.”
“Thanks for the offer,” Lily murmured, face still burning, “But…it’s nothing serious in a bad way though. It’s…I-I wanted to bring you up here to ask you something…”
“What is it?”
“…Do you love me?” Lily blurted out, clamping her hands over her mouth as Moxie’s eyes widened and she blushed.
Smurf. She really just did that. Oh Smurf! What if she had been taking Moxie’s actions the wrong way? Oh, what had she done—?
“Do you love me?” Moxie’s counter-question derailed her train of thought and she looked to see Moxie giving a sheepish smile.
“…Y-Yes?”
“…Then I love you too,” Moxie said, wringing her hands. She was so nervous now. Lily couldn’t help but giggle, “What’s so funny?”
“You,” Lily answered, “You’re usually so confident that…it’s funny to see you this flustered. And I think it’s karma for how flustered you’ve made me.”
“Yeah, karma is a real son of a smurf sometimes,” Moxie chuckled, still blushing, “Still, glad that we finally got it out in the open.”
“A-Agreed,” Lily said before silence fell upon them both. They sat there, watching the sun finally set and the world become bathed in darkness. Moxie turned on a lantern to allow them some light.
“…So, what now?” Lily asked, voice soft.
“Well…are we dating now?”
“I…guess,” Lily couldn’t help but wince, which Moxie noticed.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Just…” Lily bit her lip unsure if she should tell her or not. Eventually she sighed, “I...had a bad experienced during my last foray into the world of romance.”
“Oh…” Moxie said, giving a concerned look, “What…no, I won’t ask. I’ll only say this…” She then gave her a determined look, “Whatever happened to you…I’ll do my darndest to make sure that doesn’t happen to you again. I’ll make sure you’re okay. I’ll be the best girlfriend ever, I-I promise.”
“And I know you will,” Lily gave a warm smile that Moxie returned before a question came to mind, “Can I…can I kiss you?”
“On the cheek, perhaps?” Moxie smirked, “Start returning the favour.”
“O-Okay,” Lily took a deep breath to calm her nerves before she leaned in to kiss Moxie on the cheek…
