Your P.O.V

July 5th, 2017

Somber... Sorrow... Heartbreak...

Any normal person would have felt those exact emotions if they were the ones who had witnessed today's events. Hell, I was willing to bet there was quite a handful of people right now who did, but I couldn't place myself in that category, not yet at least. No, when the word of today's events befell upon my desk, the one emotion that welled inside my chest was pure rage and I couldn't do a damn thing about it.

That was the downfall of delegations. Once you handed the task off, you are relinquishing yourself of all knowledge and ownership of said chain of events and or reactions. Normally, I wouldn't pay any mind to the task that I had given to my men; typically, it was petty work that was beneath me. But this time; it was different. Not, a slap on the wrist kind of different. It was a life altering kind of different.

"(y/n)... I'm taking you've seen the news?" Catching wind of Mitsuya's sudden appearance, I took a deep breath before centering my attention on him. His amethyst eyes met my solemn (e/c) ones. "Takashi, he promised me no civilian causalities and yet... here the fuck we are!" Rising from my chair, I forcefully shoved the desk away from me, causing it to tip over. "(y/n)!" As Mitsuya rushed to my aid I stopped him, throwing my hand up as I did.

"Don't, leave it. One of his little henchmen can come clean this up. I need your area of expertise with me as I confront the son of a bitch." Nodding, He followed as we exited my office and made a rather quick trip right on over to Kisaki's. I didn't bother to stop and knock, and I most definitely ignored the door men, because last time I checked as Toman's second in command, they answer to me, not the other way around.

It seemed that my sudden arrival was something Kisaki had anticipated because he sat at his desk, hands folded in front of his face, observing Mitsuya and me as we entered the room. I would be lying If I said it didn't add to the aggravation I was feeling. In typical Kisaki fashion, he was first to initiate the conversation with a simple hand gesture, prompting Mitsuya and me to join him at his desk.

"I rather not. You know why I'm here and I fear if I am within more than three feet of you right now, this conversation may take a turn for the worst!" "Come (y/n), no need for the hostility, join me, I promise you'll feel much better if you do" The thing with Kisaki is you can argue all you want, but in the end, you find yourself playing into what he wants after all, hence why I'm here in the first place.

So, against my better judgement, I bite back my pride and joined him at his desk, Mitsuya followed suite of course. Truly if looks could kill, Kisaki would be dead, and it would be a favor to us all.

"Now that we are all sat, do you want to share what's troubling you so?" The patronizing tone he used was enough to make me want to jump right over this desk and watch as the life leaves his eyes through brutal force, but I continued to stand my ground. Violence did not solve violence; I had to learn that the hard way growing up. So, instead, I took a deep breath and motioned to the T.V that was playing the daily news on low.

He didn't need to turn around to reference what I was motioning to, instead he let out an exasperated sigh. "Ahh, that. I figured you were bound to come and find me about the incident sooner rather than later. I had no idea about civilian casualties until this morning. Those involved in the incident have already been handled accordingly and proper compensation was sent to the families involved. It was a tragic accident unfortunately."

Listening to him go on as he did, with no solace in his tone was the final straw. Shoving away from his desk as I rose from my spot, I let all the rage that had been baking from this morning loose.

"Proper Compensation!? You've got to be shitting me! I know you're fucking lying to me right now! You sick fuck! You know damn well who died in that accident! It was Naoto and Hinata Tachibana. That was no coincidence! God, I thought you were thick headed and far from competent, but this truly takes the cake. I'm going to give you one more chance to tell me the truth Kisaki or else this conversation ends here, and you won't like the repercussions! You tend to forgot whose Toman's #2"

At that moment, I believed I had the upper hand and thought he was about to break. But I was mistaken—so very mistaken. Instead of revealing what I wanted to know, he said something completely unexpected.

"You know (y/n), I never thought I would hear the day you finally accept that your precious Mikey is never coming back..." Hearing him say this felt like a punch to the face. Of all the times to bring him up, he chose now? "Kisaki, now is not the time..."

"It's fine Takashi... we're... no I'm done here" As soon as I left Kisaki's office, I headed straight for the entrance to Toman's doors. As I ran, Kisaki's words weighed heavily on me, making me feel dizzy. It was unfair. Every time I got close to getting him to talk and admit what he had done, he always brought Mikey into the conversation. Even after all these years, Mikey remained my only weak spot.

As I took a deep breath of fresh air, I came to a realization that had eluded me until this moment. The events of yesterday didn’t only affect me, but they also affected my twin brother, Takemichi. I haven’t seen him since my third year of middle school, and now he has just lost the only love of his life. Regardless of whether they were officially together, she was his soulmate, and she has been taken from him, along with her younger brother.

Pushing aside the whirlwind of emotions that had built up over the past twenty minutes, I composed myself and began my quick stride toward him. This would mark the first time in years that I would lay eyes on him. After his third year in middle school, he had vanished without a trace, severing all ties with our group. Yet, tracking his movements had been manageable; I had monitored his life from a distance, ensuring I knew where to find him.

If my instincts held true, his shift at the video rental shop, nestled not far from the station, was just about to wrap up.

As I entered the bustling station, a wave of nostalgia washed over me. There he was, lit by the fluorescent lights, standing alone as he busily tapped away at his phone, oblivious to the chaos of people bustling around him. I felt a mix of excitement and anxiety build within me as I approached, but suddenly, everything around me seemed to descend into a slow, eerie stillness.

In a horrifying instant, Akkun Shindo emerged from the crowd, his demeanor aggressive. With a swift, brutal shove, he sent Takemichi tumbling off the platform and onto the unforgiving tracks below. Time froze as the horrifying scene unfolded. My heart raced, pumping adrenaline through my veins, and before I could fully process the gravity of the situation, instinct kicked in, and I followed in after him.

As the train thundered down the tracks, its blaring horn echoing through the station, my mind raced with frantic thoughts of two individuals: Mikey and Takemichi. Vivid flashes of their faces ignited in my mind, each image tinged with urgency and desperation, until a blinding light overtook my vision, swallowing me whole.

Twelve Years Ago

July 1st, 2005

"Come on! You have to be out of your mind! You know my CB250-T outranks your P.O.S any day Kenny!" "If that's the case, (y/n) wouldn't have fallen of it!" Huh? Those voices....

As my senses gradually came back to me, a sharp pain began to radiate from the left side of my head. I tried to stifle a groan, but that only made things worse as the streetlights illuminated my eyes, intensifying the pain more than I had expected. "Oh shit! Mikey, she's awake!" Turning my head slightly, I found myself face to face with one of the people I wanted to see most. He was hovering above me, and I couldn't help but think this couldn't be real.

Yet, there I was, staring at him in disbelief. For that one person, the smile remained unchanged even after all this time, although something felt off; he appeared younger, as if I were looking at his fifteen-year-old self. "Kenny?" "I'm here (y/n), how you feeling? That was a nasty tumble you took back there" "Huh? What do you mean? What day even is it?" As I pushed Draken for answers, he gave me an odd look.

"Maybe we should take you to get checked out... It’s been the same day all day: July 1st, 2005.

“2005!?” I exclaimed, jumping to my feet. I quickly realized how reckless that action was as an overwhelming sensation swept through my body, almost causing me to topple over. Fortunately, Draken was nearby and caught me, allowing me to lean on him for support.

“Whoa there, Princess! You can't just get up like that! We don’t know if you have a concussion yet!”

“Mikey, get your ass over here already!”"

Mi...key?

I redirected my attention to my right and saw Mikey's younger self approaching Draken and me. He looked just as I remembered him, with his soft onyx eyes still carrying that heavy weight. His long blonde hair was styled in a half-up, half-down do. Everything about him was unchanged, and it made me want to sob right there. Instead, I dropped to my knees and began to laugh like a madman.

"Ok, God! I got your message loud and clear! My life was absolute shit! I never did any good! If this is your form of torture you win! This is shit I tell ya! Real shit!" My sudden outburst alarmed both Draken & Mikey, causing them to panic. "KENNY! I THINK I BROKE SUNSHINE! PLEASE FIX HER!" "WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK IM TRYING TO DO DUMBASS!"

"Alright, I can see you two are getting nowhere with this, Yurei, come help me out, will ya?" "Coming!" Wait... those voices!

As I panned around, I noticed Mitsuya and Yurei making their way over to me. Like Draken and Mikey, they also looked like their fifteen-year-old selves. I had almost forgotten how beautiful Mitsuya was back then. He had her... we had her. When we lost Yurei, our world fell apart, and so did Toman. So, of all the things that could be happening to me now, why did this added torture have to come?

When they reached me, I couldn't help but become a blundering mess once more. "This is an all-time low god, you knew I couldn't save her, so you're throwing it in my face" "Save me? (Y/n) you really must have hit your head hard! Let me patch you up just a little, until we can get you to a real professional of course" "It's fine, I don't need to go, I just want to stay here, with you guys"

As I voiced my thoughts, all four of them came to a halt, their gazes fixed on me with a mix of concern and determination. “Alright, that’s it! Mitsuya, Yurei, you two need to head on ahead and notify the hospital that we’re coming. Mikey, you’re going to take the lead and ensure a clear path for us.”

“But Kenny…” “No, we both know this is the best course of action.” “Alright, fair enough.”

Feeling a surge of confusion wash over me, I watched as Mitsuya and Yurei dashed off, leaving the three of us alone. I barely had time to feel the cold gravel beneath me before Draken hoisted me into his arms, cradling me in a protective bridal carry. “Ahh! Kenny, what are you doing?” I exclaimed, my cheeks flushing slightly. “Getting you checked out! You’re acting strange, and if you have a concussion and we leave it untreated, it could worsen. So no more arguments, got it?”

Realizing he was right, I surrendered with a nod, allowing him to take charge.

I wasn’t sure how much longer this surreal moment would last, but I allowed him to carry me as we made our way to his motorcycle. Throughout the journey, my eyes remained locked on Mikey, wanting to etch this image into my memory. If I were to be pulled from this reality and thrust back to the train station, I wanted my last sight to be of my beloved. He seemed to understand, mirroring my gaze with a soft, reassuring grin that made my heart flutter.

As we reached the bikes, I called out to Mikey before we mounted them. “Wait! Come here! Please!”  To my relief, he responded instantly. “Mikey, promise me that as soon as we get there, you’ll take me inside and never leave my side. Please.” “Oh, for sure, Sunshine, I promise.”

He leaned in and pressed a gentle, lingering kiss on my lips. After he got on his bike, I nestled against Draken as we sped toward the hospital. As the wind whisked past us, I gazed up at the sky, closed my eyes, and whispered. “Please, please don’t let this end here. I don’t want to lose them again.”

Chapter 2: The Not So Happy Accident (Cont.)

Chapter Text

Your P.O.V

"Mikey... I can feel you staring and it's starting to creep me out. They said it was a minor concussion. I promise I'm ok!" "Are you sure!? You were saying all kinds of odd things not to long ago!" "Was I? I don't really remember much, everything before the painkillers is a blank" That was a lie. I remembered everything I said and did, but he didn't need to know that. After a quick check up, and a strong dose of pain killers, I was cleared to go.

"Are you sure you're ok? I can take you back to your place princess" Panning my head to the left, I glanced down at Draken who was placing the last piece into a puzzle I had no idea he started. I thought about his proposition for a moment, before ultimately deciding against it. "No, I'll stay with Yurei. I rather deal with the old hag than Michi and his misfit gang of dimwits" No sooner did those words leave my mouth, did I have an Ephinay.

I couldn't lay here anymore, Michi was hit just like I was! I had to go and find him! "Michi!? Who the hell is that?" Mikey was right in my personal bubble at the mention of my twin brother. Shit. That's right. Growing up I never mentioned him or brought him around... I didn't want him to end up like me. I knew I couldn't disclose any of this information, not until I knew what was going on.

Instead, I sat up and gently pushed Mikey aside. "I will explain all of this later, but I have to go!" "(y/n), you should be resting!" Ignoring his plea's, I rushed out of Yurei's house and into the streets of Shibuya. Knowing Takemichi, he would be out and about with said group of misfits at this point, so he had to be close by! As if on cue, the moment I rounded the corner I slammed right into the Mizo Mid crew.

Per usual, Yamagishi's smart ass was the first to speak up. "Oh shit! Its Takemichi's twin! We got to scram guys; I don't want to get my ass beat again!" "Oh no you don't!" Snatching him by the collar, I stalled him from going anywhere, which in turn prompted Akun to emerge. Just the sight of his younger self-made me want to jump him, but I knew better then to let those feelings get the best of me, so for now, I allowed them to simmer back down. My first priority was to find my brother.

"What do you want with us (y/n), haven't you Toman assholes done enough" Huh? "What do you mean?" "Kiyomasa and his lacky's already gave us a thorough lashing earlier ok... we barely have the energy to lick our wounds right now. If you're looking to fight, go find someone who has the stamina and energy" OOOO That little!!!!

Stuffing down the plethora of emotions I felt, I let Yamagishi go and sighed. "Look I'm sorry about Kiyomasa and I will make sure he is handled accordingly, but in the meantime can one of you just tell me where the hell Takemichi is... please" A short pause passed between the two of us before he finally caved. "He took off a while back, I think he was running toward the playground or something."

Nodding, I ran past the boys, toward the residential playground. It didn't take me more than a quick five-minute jog to make it. When I arrived, I found Takemichi sitting on the swing set with a young elementary kid. I wanted to say something, to reach out, but for some reason, I couldn't. It felt wrong. What would I say to him? How could I help make things better for him? How could I tell him that I didn’t want him to run away from his problems? The initial shock I was experiencing came to an abrupt end when he began to speak.

"Naoto, on July 4th, 2017, you and your sister will perish in an accident. Remember this date, Naoto! Only you can save your sister! Ok?" Did Michi say that? Is it my Michi? The thought of both of us being here at the same time is overwhelming. Without thinking, I rushed over to the two of them and pulled Takemichi into an embrace while he and Naoto were shaking hands. One moment I was conscious, and the next, I wasn't.

Present Time

July 5th, 2017

"Do you think she'll come to soon?" "I don't know, this whole-time travel thing is new to me as well Takemichi" Wait!? Did he say time travel!?

Jolting awake, I found myself in a disorienting haze, my surroundings a blur as I frantically scanned the room. “Woah there (y/n)! Take a breath!” A firm but gentle grip landed on my shoulders, anchoring me to the present. As my vision began to sharpen, I was astonished to find none other than Naoto Tachibana before me. “Huh!? But... you died. I thought you died...” My voice trembled with disbelief.

“I should have been dead, but thanks to your brother and his warning all those years ago, I managed to save myself. Unfortunately...” His words trailed off, veiling the weight of past regrets. In that moment, I grasped the gravity of his statement. “I’m sorry, Naoto.” “Don’t be! As we know, all things can be fixed, and I stand as living proof of that!” His eyes sparkled with determination, but then he glanced to his left, drawing my attention. If he hadn’t turned, I might have missed my twin brother entirely, a quiet shadow in the corner. “Michi…”

“I know. We can talk later.” Once he moved and settled beside me, I leaned my head on his shoulder, comforted by his presence, while my gaze returned to Naoto. “Hanagaki twins! With your help, I think we can change the future. When you saved me, I believe we created a paradox that granted you the mysterious ability to time travel. If my calculations are correct, the span is twelve years.”

“Okay, say this is true... how the hell do we do it again? I’m not exactly eager to jump in front of a train again.” “No need for that! When the paradox was created, a trigger, or a safety mechanism, was also established.”

Realization washed over me, and I looked back and forth between him and Michi, the gravity of the situation settling in. “Oh shit.”

“Yep. It happens anytime the two of you come into contact with me. Before we test this theory and attempt to rewrite the future, I think we should get Takemichi caught up on your little world, huh?” Freezing, I locked eyes with Naoto, anxiety swirling within me. “What does that mean?” “Come now, (y/n), you don’t think I’m that incompetent, do you? I know you’re the third in command for Toman.”

What the hell!? “Naoto! You promised you wouldn’t spring that on her like that!” Takemichi shifted slightly in front of me, protectively locking eyes with Naoto as he spoke, panic flickering in his gaze. “Wait! Is he a cop!?”

Chapter 3: Back To 2005

Chapter Text

Your P.O.V

"Takemichi, if I catch you dozing off one more time, so help me!" The stern tone in my voice sliced through the tension in the room, jolting him upright as he scrambled to refocus on the flickering screen in front of him. "I wasn't!" he protested. I rolled my eyes and strolled over to the couch, sinking into a seat as I gazed at Naoto's meticulously arranged board once more. After Takemichi cleared the air about his role as one of the good cops, I let myself breathe a little easier. It was clear that the reason he kept such close tabs on everything was for moments like this. I couldn't blame him, really.

"You okay?" A voice broke through my thoughts, startling me as I turned to my left to see Naoto settled next to me. "Define 'okay,'" I replied, a hint of sarcasm lacing my words. "Yesterday, I thought I was a goner, and now—well, look at me! I’m as okay as it gets." Naoto chuckled softly as I said this. "I suppose you're right. I thought I had done all the research to save her... but I was too late. In the end, I was a terrible little brother." His admission hit me like a dagger, ripping through any sense of ease.

He had no idea that it was all my fault, and I lacked the courage to tell him. The haunted look in his eyes mirrored something I had seen before, something that tugged at my heart—Mitsuya. Oh my god! Mitsuya! In a sudden rush of urgency, I jolted upright, & grabbed my cell, dashing out of the apartment, paying no mind to Takemichi and Naoto’s startled calls behind me. Frantically dialing his number, I felt the weight of each ring before he finally answered.

"Holy shit (y/n)! Where are you!? It's been two days since anyone has seen you. I thought the rumors were true. I thought—"

I cut him off, my voice firm yet strained. "I'm fine! Don’t worry. I need you to cover for me, just for a bit, okay? I promise, as soon as I can explain, I'll call you back, Takashi..." Before he could respond or voice his worries, I ended the call and rushed back into Naoto's apartment.

When I returned, I found Takemichi and Naoto standing face-to-face. "Shit, he finished? We're doing this now?" I asked, my heart pounding with a mix of excitement and dread.

"Yeah, time to go (y/n)," Naoto replied, his voice steady despite the chaos around us. "Are we sure it's going to work?" I questioned, uncertainty creeping into my tone. "It did once, so we just have to put our faith in it," he reassured me, his determination unwavering. "Alright."

I took my place next to Takemichi, mirroring the moment we had shared at the park, and embraced him tightly. Naoto and Takemichi exchanged a firm handshake. Just like before, a brilliant light enveloped my vision, a warm, swirling glow that promised to take us back. As it enveloped us, I could feel the thrill of hope mingling with fear, knowing we were stepping into the unknown once more.

Twelve Years Ago

July, 7th, 2005

"Kenny! How much longer are you going to punish me? I just want my sunshine to ride with me!" Sunshine? Wait... does that mean something more?

As my vision began to clear, I realized I was firmly gripping Draken's sturdy torso, the rumble of his bike vibrating beneath me. We were set to take off on an ride, but uncertainty gnawed at me about our destination. "At least three more days; her concussion isn’t fully healed yet!" Draken’s voice was firm, a touch of worry lacing his words.

"Oh, come on! That’s so unfair!" The playful bickering between the two made me chuckle softly, and both their heads snapped toward me, curiosity sparkling in their eyes. "What are you laughing at, Princess?"  "The two of you, that’s all. I’m okay, really! Thank you for taking care of Kenny, but I promise I'm ready to ride with Mikey now."

"You sure?" Draken asked, his brow furrowed as he steadied his bike to let me dismount. "Yay! I get my sunshine!" "Whoa there, bud! Don't get too excited. If I fall off again, I’m never riding with you again!" "You got it, boss!" With a playful chuckle, I climbed onto the bike beside Mikey, gripping him tightly as the engine roared to life. "You know, Sunshine," Mikey said, glancing at me as we sped down the streets of Shibuya, "it’s great to see you in a better mood. You were really down for a while."

A funk? Confused, I shot Draken a questioning look, prompting him to elaborate. "I’m not sure what it was, but you seemed so devoid of joy. Even after beating up those jerks who were picking on the elementary kids, your spark was dimmed!" That struck me as strange. I struggled to recall a time I felt that way. Had changes already begun to creep into our lives? "Who cares about any of that! Sunshine is back to herself, so let’s move on and hit the road!" My spirits lifted, I dismissed that thought and rested my head against Mikey as the wind whipped through my hair.

"So, now that you're feeling better, is there anywhere in particular you’d like to go?" Suddenly, it hit me. Glancing at the time, excitement bubbled within me. If I was right, Kiyomasa should be hosting that ridiculous little fight club of his, and according to Takemichi, his younger self would be there, too. "Yeah, I want you guys to meet someone."

Both men shared a quick glance before returning their focus to the street ahead. "Who?" Draken inquired, his curiosity piqued. "Michi! That’s who."  "Wait! The same Michi you rushed off to see the other day?" The hint of jealousy in Mikey's tone was surprisingly endearing, though it also drew a resigned sigh from me. "Yes, but why are you so concerned about that, Mikey?"

Draken blinked back at me, still looking bewildered. "Did you forget the argument you two had about him this morning?" Ahh! There it was—now it made perfect sense! Taking a deep breath, I adjusted myself, resting my head against Mikey’s shoulder this time. "No, I didn’t forget. But just trust me and come meet him, please." I saw a flicker of inner turmoil cross Mikey's face, but it quickly vanished, replaced by agreement.

"Fine, but if I don’t like him, he’s toast." "Okay, deal!" With that, we continued toward Kiyomasa’s stupid little fight club. If luck was on my side, I might just accomplish two things at once and potentially alter a few outcomes for the better. Who said multitasking was a thing of the past?

Chapter 4: He's My Brother

Chapter Text

Your P.O.V

"I told you he was worth meeting, huh?" I watched as Takemichi rough-housed with the Mizo Mid squad and leaned against Mikey, letting a smile form on my lips. "Yeah, I suppose you're right." "Come on, you really can't still be pouting!" I glanced at Mikey as I said this, but he quickly averted his gaze, looking back out at Takemichi.  "I'm not pouting! I'm selectively sulking over a minor miscommunication."

"I tried to tell you, but you just wouldn't listen. I thought the resemblance would be enough for you." "No offense, (y/n), but we both know that Mikey doesn't pay attention to detail," Draken chimed in. I looked at him, noticing a smile had also appeared on his lips. "Besides, even if Michi and I weren't related, he has someone who is already head over heels for him."

"So, Takemitchy has a girlfriend, huh?" Draken teased. "Jeez, I told you guys to stop calling him Takemitchy! It's Takemichi for crying out loud." "Nah, Takemitchy suits him better." "Jeez, you're just as hopeless as Mikey when it comes to these things." "Oh? Are you challenging me?" "No, but your statement just proves my point." I playfully rolled my eyes at Draken, then returned my gaze to Takemichi and the Mizo Mid squad.

Even so, it was cute seeing Mikey get all protective over me like that. It had been twelve years since I last saw him act that way.

A Few Hours Ago

Takemichi's P.O.V

After returning to the future and enduring several brutal thrashings, I found myself back at that damned fight club. This time, instead of Akkun or me being the target, they took poor Takuya, just like the guys had predicted hours ago. I couldn’t let them hurt him, especially knowing he couldn’t fight. While I knew I wasn’t in great shape either, I had a clearer head on my shoulders. I was sent back for a reason, and if stepping in to help Takuya was part of that, then so be it.

Taking a deep breath, I clenched my fist and shouted at the top of my lungs. “Everybody, stop right now!” Hearing my voice so loud surprised me as much as it did the crowd around me. Well, if I die here, all hope isn’t lost; I know (y/n) will change the future. “Oi! Hanagaki! Who the hell do you think you are? You better shut your trap!”

“Hell no! Aren’t you all tired of seeing the same thing over and over? Don’t you want to see something interesting?” A few murmurs spread throughout the crowd before Kiyomasa spoke up. “What are you trying to say, Hanagaki?” he asked.  “I’m saying, wouldn’t you like to see something new? I don’t know, maybe something along the lines of Slave vs. King?” By the time I reached the bottom of the steps, everyone had fallen quiet. It felt strange to have all eyes on me, but now that I had challenged Kiyomasa, he had no choice but to respond.

“Takemichi! You can’t do this!” Akkun protested.

“Shut up, Akkun! If I don’t do anything, nothing will ever change!”

“I see. You want to try and die a noble death. Well, I’ve been looking for a reason to kill you anyway, Hanagaki.” As Kiyomasa rose from his spot, my heart sank a little. I knew he was capable of hurting me, but I didn’t budge. I wasn’t going to run away anymore; I needed to face this, and I needed to do it for Hina!

I guess getting lost in my thoughts wasn’t my brightest idea, as Kiyomasa swung at me. His fist connected with my face, and it felt like I was seeing stars. Damn it, I knew he was strong, but now he wasn’t pulling any punches. Throughout our fight, he didn’t let me land a single hit. My face and stomach hurt like hell, but I wasn’t giving up. At some point, he let his guard down a bit, allowing me to dodge a few of his punches.

Son of a bitch! He must be getting tired! This is my chance! “Damn it, Hanagaki, stay still! If you knew what was good for you, you’d go down already!”

“Never! This fight isn’t ending unless you kill me!” The words surprised me as they left my mouth. It felt like I was acknowledging a hard truth, and my subconscious was taking over. Kiyomasa’s response didn’t shock me at all.

“Fine, you want to die, Hanagaki? I can arrange that. SOMEONE, GO GET ME MY BAT!” His bat? Shit, why did I have to open my big mouth? I was going to die this time. Shit, shit, shi...

"Kiyomasa, what the hell is going on here?" "Shit, Makoto, do you know who that is?" Yamagishi bellowed from the side. "No, who?" Makoto replied. "Partially shaved head, dragon tattoo, that Toman's second-in-command, Ken Ryuuji! Better known as Draken!"

"Draken!?"

Peering past Kiyomasa, I watched as this Draken person approached us. Behind him was a man with short blonde hair and... my sister!? That must mean the man with the short hair is...

My question was answered when everyone started to bow and call him "Commander." The kid with short blonde hair was indeed Sano Manjiro himself.

"Oh, Kenny!" "Jeez, Mikey, I told you to stop calling me that in public!" "Aw, is Kenny gonna burst a blood vessel?" "(Y/N), you are not helping the situation at all!" "What? You're being so tense." "Oh, whatever."

As those two bickered, Sano—no, Mikey—started to make his way over to Kiyomasa and me.

I didn't pay too much attention to what was happening because I was focused on Mikey. By the time we were face to face, I stumbled a bit and fell on my backside.

"So, who are you?" "I'm Takemichi Hanagaki." "Wait, did you say Hanagaki?" "Uh-huh." "Oh, I see now. Well, Takemitchy, starting today, you and I are friends." "Takemitchy?" "You heard Mikey. Your name is Takemitchy." "Okay, sir." "Oh, come on! Stop picking on him! That's not how you make friends, you idiots!"

Watching (Y/N) hit Draken and Mikey upside the head without getting hit back was truly a spectacle. I wondered why I never knew she was in Toman; then again, she was never home while growing up. She was always hanging out with her friends.

"Michi! I'm so glad I found you!" "That makes two of us. Where the hell have you been?"

"Out riding with those two morons. But mind telling me, why did you get your ass beat? I'm sure you weren't always this weak. What happened to the old back fist?"

"Really, (Y/N)!? You bring that up now?" "Yeah, jeez, you're such an idiot... Takemitchy."

Your P.O.V

(y/n) (y/n) (y/n)

"Huh? I'm here!" Peering to my left, I noticed that Mikey and Draken were no longer present; instead, it was Mitsuya and Yurei who remained. "Huh!? What the hell?" They both waved at me and shared a laugh. "They tried to get your attention, but you were stuck in one of those good old (y/n) trances, so they asked us to keep you company."

"Yeah, some official business or whatever came up," Mitsuya said, rolling his eyes as he looked around the park. "I can't believe Kiyomasa was holding a fight club here." "That makes two of us," I sighed, rising from my spot and stretching. "Well, let's get going! I figured I should head home and keep Michi company tonight." As I mentioned this, both Mitsuya and Yurei's eyes widened in surprise.

"Okay, what's the deal? I thought you were with Mikey!?" Mitsuya exclaimed. "Jeez, Takashi! Michi is my little brother—well, technically, we’re twins, just a few minutes apart." As I spoke, their mouths practically fell open. I hated that younger me had kept it a secret for so long, especially since I'd known the two of them the longest.

"Huh!? There's a male version of you running around this town!?" Mitsuya pressed. "Hey! Don’t make it sound weird like that! Michi is his own person, you know!" I stated defensively.

"Okay, okay, sorry. I guess we'll see you tomorrow," Mitsuya replied. "Yeah, see you!" I waved goodbye to Yurei and Mitsuya as they headed down the street. If I'm going to fix the future, I have to start by mending the past, and that begins with being there for Takemichi more, even if we both came from the future I was talking about.

Chapter 5: Mikey's Unauthorized Visit

Chapter Text

Your P.O.V

Sticking to the vow I made to myself, I got up early this morning to walk with Takemichi to school instead of following my past self's old routine of sleeping in. On the way there, I glanced over at Michi. "Michi."  "Yeah, (y/n)?"  "Do you think we can change the future?"  Takemichi paused for a moment, looking down at his hands before smiling. "I'm not sure, but I'm not going to give up so easily."

"That's a good way to look at it."  "I have to. Losing Hina was an eye-opener; without her, I'm no one."

Hearing him say that crushed my heart for multiple reasons. One, he was so much more than Hinata Tachibana's boyfriend, and two, I understood how he felt. I never gave up on Mikey after he disappeared. Every day, I hoped and prayed that he would come back to me. "Don't worry, (y/n), I have a good feeling about this." Snapping out of my thoughts, I simply nodded at his words, sharing a smile with my twin brother. Before we could exchange any more words, we ended up colliding with Hina. Deciding to give them space, I fell behind them, only to be greeted by a pleasant surprise of my own.

"Well, hello, Yurei." "Huh!? How did you know I was behind you, (y/n)?" "Come on, we've known each other since we were eight. I'd recognize your energy anywhere." "Fair, I'll give you that." Satisfied with my answer, Yurei fell into step with me. "I have to ask, you usually skip out on school. What’s with the sudden interest?" I glanced over at Yurei and noticed a pink hue coloring her cheeks. "Mitsuya convinced me to come. He said, 'If you're going to be a delinquent, Yurei, at least put that beautiful brain of yours to work and hone your intelligence. I don't want to see all your natural ability go to waste. It'll be useful in the future, just you wait!'"

Chuckling, I waved my hand in front of my face. "That sounds just like Takashi! Jeez, what a dummy!" "I know, but he’s our dummy, so..." Yurei's tone drifted off as her eyes fell upon Takemichi. Ah, crap, I knew she was going to dwell on this. I just hadn’t expected it to affect her this way. "Alright, you can ask." "Huh!?" "Ask me why I never told you guys about my twin."

Yurei hesitated at first but ultimately overcame her apprehension. She stopped and turned to me. "Why did you hide it? The entire time we’ve known you, you never once mentioned him. What changed? Why now?" I desperately wanted to tell her the truth—all of it. But I just couldn't. Instead, I took a deep breath and gave her one of my best fake "genuine" smiles. "I didn't want to worry my mom. She already has one delinquent running around Tokyo in a gang. I didn't want her to have another one. And before you say anything, Michi and his friends are a different case entirely!"

Instead of judging me, Yurei gave me a curious look. "If you don't mind me asking, what changed your mind?" "I'm not sure, at least not yet. It's not really up to me if he gets to be with us in Toman; it's Mikey's decision." Yurei simply nodded before taking my hand in hers. "Well, enough of that! Class is going to start soon, so let's get going!" With that, she dragged me along with her to class.

Four Hours Later

As I tried to keep my eyes open, I couldn’t help but yawn. The curse of being a Hanagaki twin seemed to be that the smarts and strength went to me, while Takemichi got the spirit and willpower. The whole school thing always seemed to go over my head, but who was I to fight it? Knowing I had to stay awake, I rose from my chair to use the restroom, only to be stopped by a sudden interruption.

A horrendous commotion erupted from the hall before the classroom door flung open. To my surprise, Draken and Mikey greeted the class, dressed in their school uniforms. Oh lord, this wasn’t going to end well...

“Takemitchy! (y/n)! Come on, let’s go play outside!” Of course, the moment those words left his mouth, our teacher became furious, dismissing both Takemichi and me from class to deal with our “sudden visitors.” I pulled them both down the hall a bit, with Takemichi following closely behind. Once I was sure we were out of earshot from the class, I began to let them have it.

“What are you doing here!? You can’t just come and pull Michi and me out to ‘play’!” “Hey, Takemitchy, why is your sister so bitchy? She’s being a giant prude today!” “Prude!? Oh, you’re asking for it, aren’t you, Draken!” Before I could swing at him, Mikey placed his hand on my shoulder, shaking his head. “Aw, c’mon Mikey, the princess and I haven’t fought since we were twelve!”

“Kenny, don’t antagonize my sunshine, please,” Draken sighed, and I looked to Mikey once more. “Mikey, can we sidebar?” “If we must! But make it quick; I wanna go play with Takemitchy!” Rolling my eyes and ignoring his comment, I dragged him off down the hall a bit more before I started to let him have it again. “Mikey… why are you here? Are you trying to make up for our fight? Because I’ve already forgotten about it; it’s water under the bridge. You don’t have to feel obligated to make it up to me in the form of being my brother's friend!”

When I said this, a grin spread across Mikey’s face as he took my hand in his own. “You’re so cute, sunshine! I promise it’s none of that. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to be his friend. If anything, he reminds me of big bro Shin…”

Shinichiro? As in Shinichiro Sano? As in the older brother whose fate was decided too soon, Shinichiro Sano!? As that single thought swam through my head, it felt like Mikey knew exactly what was going on inside my mind. “I know it seems weird, but he’s so much like Shin; I’m drawn to it.” “Oh, so you’re falling in love with my brother now?” I teased, and the mood quickly lightened, making him chuckle.

“Oh, ha ha! You know I only have room in my heart for one Hanagaki twin, so get real!” “I would, but your cheeks turn a lovely shade of cherry red when I tease you!” “Oh, get real!” Mikey made a pouting face after that, turned, and left, walking away with Takemichi and Draken. I couldn’t help but chuckle. Before I knew it, class was over, and I was approached by Yurei. “So, is Mikey stealing you guys out of class going to be a normal thing?”

“No, but we should go catch up with them.” “Okay, sounds good!” From that point, Yurei and I began the walk to find Mikey, Draken, and Takemichi. It didn’t take long to figure out where they were due to the commotion. When we arrived, Takemichi and Draken were in a heated conversation, and Hina’s face was full of fear. What the hell happened in the few minutes I left them alone?

My question was answered when Mikey approached Takemichi, getting ready to hit him. If you asked me how I got over to the two of them so quickly, I wouldn’t be able to answer. One minute I was standing next to Yurei, and the next I was embracing Takemichi, shielding him from whatever Mikey was about to unleash on him. I expected some type of punch to connect with the back of my head, but it never came.

Letting go of Takemichi, I turned around to face the two of them. “Just kidding! As if I would ever hit a woman!” “Mikey you asshole!” I hit him upside the head, and he whined a bit, asking what that was for. “Wow, (Y/n), Takemichi threatened me.” Turning to Draken as he said this, I couldn’t help but be in shock. “Huh!? He did!?” “Yeah, him protecting his wifey like that is old school; no one does that nowadays.”

“Well, look at you go, Michi.” His face wore a serious look, but I knew on the inside he was scared. “Why don’t you guys go hang with Michi? I wanna catch up on some schoolwork and have lunch with Yurei.” “Alright, see you later, sunshine.” “See you.” Walking back over to Yurei, I took my bag from her and locked arms with her, guiding her away from everyone who had stopped to watch the little show Mikey had put on.

“You scared me! I’ve never seen you move that quickly before! One moment you were next to me, and the next you were shielding Takemichi.” “I couldn’t tell you how I did it, but I did.” “Jeez, you’re like Mikey, you know? You and your weird movements.” “I’ll take that as a compliment and pretend you weren’t just dissing my boyfriend, your acting commander of the Tokyo Manji Gang.” “You are something else, I hope you know that"

Nodding, I smirked at side, before focusing my attention back onto the crowded halls once more. "That I do, now let's get going! I am starving!"

Chapter 6: An Accidental Jump that Lead to the Truth

Takemitchi's P.O.V

Present Time

"NAOTO YOU JERK! WHAT WERE YOU DOING UP THERE!" "Huh!? Your back!?" "Yeah! No thanks to you!" "That means my theory was right! But wait, what are you doing back here!? You accidentally shook my hand didn't you!?" I nodded, but received an irritated response in return. "Jeez Takemichi, this isn't a matter to play around about!" "I know but I didn't mean to, you have to believe me Naoto!" "I do, sorry I'm just on edge about all of this"

"With that being said, where's (y/n)?" Peering over to the cot, I noticed she was still frozen in place. This caused me to tense up, and I looked at Naoto for guidance. "Naoto..." "When you jumped back, was your sister with you?" I shook my head, which brought a perplexed expression to Naoto's face. "So she's still in the past, huh?" "It seems that way. It means we were wrong, Naoto; we can jump both with and without one another."

"Intriguing. Come with me; we're going to get some food. Just in case she jumps back, I'll leave her a note." I watched as Naoto wrote a detailed note, leaving it on the table next to her. He then sat with her on the cot for a moment before grabbing his jacket. "Well, we have a lot to discuss. Let's go." With that, Naoto and I left to get food and discuss this new possibility, as well as the events that had unfolded in the past so far.

Twelve Years Ago (July 2005)

Your P.O.V

"Michi, if you're trying to be funny, I am simply not in the mood! Can you just tell me what you, Draken, and Mikey talked about the other day during your unauthorized field trip?" Michi finally looked up from his game and gave me a dirty look. "It's none of your business! Besides, what's with the rare occasion of you being home? Did Mikey get bored with you?"

Hearing those words sting, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt. "Okay, what's up! I get it. We didn't talk for twelve years; that was my fault. But can you stop icing me out? I'm trying here, Michi! This is as important to me as it is to you!"

"Huh? Twelve years? You must be off your rocker, (y/n). Maybe all that brain damage is kicking in because you sound crazy!" It took a moment for it to click, but when it did, I felt incredibly stupid. I wasn't talking to my Takemichi but his past self. But how? I thought we had to be together to jump! I would handle that situation later, but since I had past Takemichi with me right now, I crouched down and shared a smile with him, which I'm sure looked creepy as hell.

"You may be right, but since I'm supposedly off my rocker and spouting nonsense, can you at least humor me one more time?" "Sure?" he replied. "Don't run from your problems, ever. Even if it seems impossible or it scares you. You have an undeniable strength, and out of everyone I know, you, Michi, are the bravest." "What the!? Now you're getting sappy on me!? Maybe I should go and get Mom..."

"No! Don't! I'll see you in a bit!" And with that, I left past Takemichi to sit with my wisdom. I doubted he would remember, but in the end, it’s the thought that counts. With that decided, I raced to Naoto's house to try to jump to the future. I needed to see if, by now, we had changed anything even if it was the smallest thing.

Present Time

Takemichi's P.O.V

"I still can't wrap my head around all of this. Why would she lie to us, Naoto? Did we do something to make her distrust us?" "I wish I could ease your mind, but I can't say for sure. The truth, the real truth, you'll only get that from her." "But how do I know she'll give it to me? She didn't trust me enough to tell me before, especially knowing that she is Tom's second-in-command."

"Have faith in your twin, Takemichi. The fact that she is even helping us right now speaks volumes!" "I suppose you're right." Sighing, I glanced down at (y/n), who was still frozen in time. I had no idea she was hiding so many secrets, and honestly, I wasn't even mad at her for not sharing everything. I was angry at myself for making her feel like she had to withhold anything in the first place. I should have...

"Takemichi! Look!" Snapping out of my thoughts, I looked back at (y/n), who was now wide awake. "Hey you, how are you feeling?" "Sore. This cot is unforgiving on the adult body." I chuckled, scooting over a bit to help her sit up. "So, it seems you and I can travel back in time without one another." "I see that. But why did you jump without me?" "I didn't; it was an accident, but that's not important right now."

"What Takemichi means is that while you stayed behind, we discovered some new information." Naoto's comment intrigued her, and she listened intently. "Thanks to you, Akkun never went to jail, and while you weren't here, Takemichi and I went to see him and found some things out." The moment he said this, her demeanor fell, and it was as if she knew what he was going to say next.

"You did... huh?"

Nodding, I decided not to mention what had happened to Akkun, knowing the next part would be hard enough for her. "(y/n)... why didn't you tell us Mikey went M.I.A. all those years ago?" "Habit, I suppose? I didn't want anyone to know that he left me... that this entire time I was running things for him through Kisaki. I didn't want his enemies to know that the invincible Mikey had disappeared."

"Is that all?" Naoto pressed, and (y/n) shook her head. "I suppose since you know that, I should tell you everything. Two thousand five was an eventful year; an internal conflict happened that broke Toman up for a while. Then Draken died, and Yurei right after. It destroyed Mikey, and he was never the same after that. He fell into a spiral, and that's when Kisaki joined. You know the rest."

When (y/n) said this, a lightbulb went off in my head. "Okay, so if we stop Draken and Yurei's deaths, we can change the future. I'm sure of it. If we stop the internal conflict, we can prevent their deaths." At that moment, both Naoto and (y/n) lit up with hope. "Alright, we'll use the information we have to figure out why Draken and Yurei died," Naoto said. "Takemichi, (y/n), our future is in your hands."

"Seems like that’s the new theme of our lives at the moment, but you can count on us," I replied. "Yeah, we won't let you down, Naoto." Just like before, (y/n) embraced me, and Naoto and I shook hands. The world around me brightened, and off to the past we went.

Chapter 7: Enter Toman!

Chapter Text

Twelve Years Ago

Your P.O.V

"Pah was telling me it was pretty brutal. He practically raped the poor girl and then beat her family half to death. I’m surprised they made it out alive. Scum is too kind a term; he is far beyond a delinquent and just a plain criminal!" "That's what I said!"

Who's Scum? Where the hell did I end up this time? I don’t want to have to hunt Takemichi down again...

As my consciousness returned, I realized I was resting against a tree. Draken and Mikey were talking ten feet away. Everything felt cloudy, making me wonder if I had jumped back into my fourteen-year-old body while they were riding again. Against my better judgment, I turned my head to the left and confirmed my concerns: sitting next to me, ten feet away, were Mikey's and Draken's bikes.

I have the worst timing when it comes to these things. If I could stop jumping back when I am out riding with the boys, I would be forever grateful. When I turned my head back, a sharp pain shot through the back of my head, causing me to groan. "I swear, if I have another concussion, I’ll just end it all right here." As those words left my mouth, they caught the attention of both Mikey and Draken.

"Woah! Don’t say that, Sunshine!" Mikey exclaimed. "Agreed," Draken added. "We had no idea you were going to fall off. One minute you were completely conscious, and the next you were out like a light." Sighing, I shut my eyes for a few moments to collect my thoughts. It was good to know that my past self's subconscious wasn't going to suffer from this injury either. Although the throbbing sensation is concerning, I’m sure it’s just an acute migraine forming and not anything too serious.

"Sunshine, you still with us?" Mikey asked. "Yep." I opened my eyes once more, finding the two of them staring at me with concern. "No need to fret; all is fine. Nothing that two painkillers and a good night's rest won't fix in a bit." "Will you sleep? Takemichi says you don't sleep at home, and when you're with us, you don’t sleep either."

Rolling my eyes, I couldn't help but sigh. Oh right, I don’t sleep; I just time jump between my twenty-six-year-old body and this one. No big deal. I can’t remember the last time I got decent sleep. As much as I wished I could tell them, they would think I was crazy, just like they did the first time. So instead of being a smartass, I gave a genuine answer. "I haven’t been sleeping lately because I’ve been thinking of ways to help Michi get stronger."

"Takemitchy? Really?" Mikey replied. "Yeah, I'm tired of seeing him get his ass kicked." "That makes two of us," Draken chimed in. "But what can I do?" I inquire. They both shrugged before Draken took out his phone and dialed someone's number, ending that conversation without a second thought. As his phone rang, I wondered who it could be. When the person on the other line picked up, I was surprised when Draken began to speak.

"Hey! Takemitchy! Do you think you could haul your ass over to the Musashi Shrine? I want to introduce you to everyone! See you then!" Draken hung up the phone before Takemichi even had a chance to speak. "I suddenly remembered why I hate talking to you on the phone." "Oh, you wound me, so (y/n.)" Rolling my eyes at his comment, I point my finger at Draken moments after. "Okay, soldier, get your ass over here and help me up!"

"Yes, ma'am!" Draken slid his phone into his pocket and made his way over to me again. He helped me stand, allowing me to use him as a crutch if I needed to. "So, are we going to the Musashi Shrine or not?" "You gonna make it?" Draken asked. "Yes, I’m not crippled, Mikey, please make him stop." I pleaded. "Kenny, stop teasing my sunshine!" "What? She makes it so easy."

"Easy, huh? I guess I’ll just tell Emma to move on; maybe she’ll go for Takemitchy." "Hey! You leave her out of this!" "Haha! She got you, Kenny!" "Sometimes I wonder why I haven't put either of you six feet under." "The feeling’s mutual... Kenny." "Alright, she is all yours, Mikey." Draken handed me over to Mikey, allowing me to shift my weight against him. "Is it possible to wait a few more minutes? My head is still kind of throbbing."

"Of course, Sunshine." "You gonna be okay (y/n)?" Draken inquired, genuinley concerned. "Yeah, I just need five minutes." "Alright."

Takemichi's P.O.V

I can only imagine why Draken called me here. When he said he wanted to introduce me to everyone, did he mean the guys in Toman? My question was answered when a group of teens on beat-up motorcycles pulled into the parking lot. Two of them approached me without hesitation, threatening me for even daring to set foot on their sacred land. I was barely able to get a word out before a guy with lilac hair stepped in.

"Bug off, you two!" The two guys scrambled as he approached. The lilac-haired guy gave me a once-over before smirking. "Are you Takemitchy?" That’s going to stick with me, isn’t it? Shaking my head, I pushed that thought aside and nodded. "Ahh! I've heard great things about you from your sister and Draken!"

"Huh!? They talk about me?" "Yeah, especially (y/n). She wanted everyone to know how much of a badass you were against Kiyomasa." Jeez, (y/n), Naoto said to try and get me into Toman, not sing my praises to the whole gang. "Ahh! Takemichi! You came!" Snapping out of it, I looked past the lilac-haired guy to see Yurei approaching us. "Yurei? What are you doing here?"  "I'm a member of Toman!"

"Huh? How!?" Realizing that came out wrong, Yurei didn’t give me a chance to correct myself before getting right in my face. "Oh? You’re saying a girl can’t be part of a gang? Does that mean you feel the same about (y/n)? You being sexist!?" "What!? No! Not at all!" Before either of us could say another word, a third party interjected. "Oi! Mitsuya, get your wifey in check!" "Already on it!" Before Yurei could get any angrier, Mitsuya wrapped his arms around her waist and began to drag her away.

"Well, it’s nice to meet you, Takemitchy. See you around, I guess." I watched as Mitsuya pushed Yurei away, telling her that she couldn't pick a fight with everyone. "Sorry about that, Takemitchy. The girls get a bit touchy when someone questions how they got into Toman." "I didn’t mean it like that! I just think it’s cool you have female members, that’s all." "They may be girls, but they can throw down like it’s no one’s business. Yurei and (y/n) may be our only girls, but they kick ass."

"Yeah, that sounds about right for those two." At that moment, Draken smirked before looking past me. His gaze met Hinata's. "Hey, what is your wifey doing here?" "She insisted on coming." "Sorry if it’s too much trouble." "Not at all. As a matter of fact..." Draken turned around and called out for someone named Emma. "Emma! Come over here! Can you take care of Takemitchy’s wifey?"

"Yeah, I guess I could." The last person I wanted to see was exactly the one who appeared in front of me. The Emma he called for was the same one who was on top of me all those hours ago. "Oh hey! You're the guy who left me hanging earlier!" "Huh!? I don’t know what you’re talking about!" "What do you mean? You got me down to my underwear and then ditched me!"

"Oh, he did now!?" "Yep!" "TAKEMICHI!" "Please wait, Hina! I don’t remember how I got there in the first place!" "Yeah, right! You jerk!" With all her might, Hina swung her school bag in my face, knocking me flat on my back. "Oww! Hina, wait!" Watching her storm off like that pained me, especially since it was the old me that had done it. Stupid younger me, what the hell were you thinking!?

"Even after all that, I thought it would make him jealous." "Huh? You mean Draken?" Emma just nodded before heading over to Hina. For my sake, I'm glad she was just using me, and I hope she can smooth things over with Hina for me. "Jeez, Michi, I didn’t take you as the cheating type." That voice... Turning around, I was met with Mikey and (y/n). "Yeah, Takemitchy, that’s kind of scandalous, especially since Kenny..."

"Okay, enough of that!" (y/n) clasped her hand over Mikey’s mouth, glaring daggers at him. "Did I miss something?" "No, just Mikey being a dumbass, that’s all." Through her hand, it sounded like Mikey was whining about something, saying something along the lines of "Not cool, sunshine" or something like that."Well, now that everyone is here, are you ready?" "Yeah, I suppose." (y/n) removed her hand from Mikey’s mouth and intertwined her fingers with his. "Let’s get going, Michi. You’re gonna see how a legit biker gang works." And with that, I followed behind Draken, Mikey, and (y/n), ascending the stairs to my first official Toman meeting.

Chapter 8: It's Nice to Have a Friend

Chapter Text

Takemichi's P.O.V

Last night went by faster than I expected. During my first Toman meeting, the third division captain and his second-in-command, Pah-Chin and Peh-Yan, insisted that Kiyomasa's expulsion was entirely my fault. They ended up roughing me up, and, as usual, I found myself on the floor again. Luckily, (Y/n) stepped in to help, along with Mitsuya. They scolded everyone involved about fighting and pointed out that Kiyomasa's choices led to his own downfall.

To make matters worse, (Y/n) emphasized that Pah's frustrations with Moebius shouldn't be taken out on me. This led to the creation of our grand plan to confront Moebius. Since then, I've been waking up early to follow Draken. If what (Y/n) told us about the future is correct, this fight will trigger the infighting within Toman and ultimately lead to the downfall of its second-in-command.

(Y/n) chose to spend her day doing other things, so we decided to split up. Still, I couldn't help but wonder what could have caused Draken and Mikey to fight among themselves. Everything I've observed so far has seemed normal for them. I suppose this is why I was trailing Draken; I needed to understand the situation, not just for the sake of the future, but for Hina's sake as well.

Your P.O.V

"If you keep pacing like that Yurei you're going to run a hole into the ground." Peering up from the book I was reading, I watched as she glared down at me. "I'm sorry, are you not mad at your sexist brother? He dissed our credibility!" Sighing, I placed my bookmark into the book before closing it and setting it down next to me. "I don't think he means it like that, Mrs. Mam!" "Are you defending your brother over your own best friend?" she challenged.

"No, I'm just saying that not everyone is sexist. Takemichi thinks it's awesome that Toman has women in its ranks." My words caused a slight pink hue to reach Yurei's cheeks, and her constant pacing began to slow down. "(Y/N) is right, Mia Cara," Mitsuya agreed, which made Yurei stop altogether and calm down. She was now a lovely shade of cherry red. Mitsuya came up behind Yurei, wrapping his arms around her waist before speaking again. "Besides, you two are the only girls to have ever been in Toman. That's badass points in my book!"

"Wow, Takashi, how cool of you," Yurei replied. "I know, right?" "It's one of the reasons why I love this dork, sweet to the core." "I could say the same." Looking at the two of them cuddled up together brought a smile to my face. They were perfect for each other, and it reminded me of how lonely Mitsuya was without her. "Hey, Takashi, Yurei, can I ask you a question?" I asked. Both of them looked up at the same time and replied, "Sure. What's up?"

"If we end up fighting Moebius, can you promise not to come?" "Huh? What the hell, (Y/N)? Why would you try to bench us?" Yurei exclaimed. "I just don't want you to get hurt. Will you trust me on this?" I pleaded. "Normally, I would agree with what my commanding officer has to say, but I feel like there's a deeper meaning behind it all. Care to share?" Mitsuya inquired. "I can't, Takashi. Please, just don't come. I won’t stop you from doing so, but as your commanding officer, I advise against it."

"We'll take it into consideration, but we're not just going to abandon Toman, right, Yurei?" Mitsuya looked to her as he said this. Yurei shook her head and gave me one of the best smiles she could muster. "Hell no! We will always have Toman's back, no matter how crazy the situation." "I guess you've made up your minds. It was a nice try, though." Sliding against the nearest tree, I looked at Yurei and Mitsuya, who were giving me concerned looks.

It's not like I could be honest with them. If I told the truth, they would think I sounded crazy. I would say, "Fighting Moebius gets Yurei killed, and you start spiraling down a dark and deluded path because of it. Oh, did I mention Draken is going to die too?!" I would undoubtedly get kicked out of Toman. Some things, especially in this case, are better left unsaid. We sat in silence for a few more minutes before Mitsuya spoke up. "It's getting to be about three in the afternoon; I have to go get Mikey."

"Huh? He didn't bring his bike with him?" "It’s in the shop, but don't worry; I'll be back before you know it. (Y/N), Watch Mia Cara for me, okay? Don't let her pull your leg too much." "I won't," I replied. Mitsuya smiled at me before kissing the top of Yurei's forehead. "Alright. See you guys in a bit. Bye, babe. Bye, Takashi. Bye!" I said last. Mitsuya got on his bike and waved goodbye once more before riding off down the street.

When he was out of sight, Yurei practically tackled me to the floor. "No lies, no half-baked excuses. Tell me why the hell you're acting so weird." "What are you talking about?" I asked. "I'm talking about the half-baked answers and the depressing looks!" "If I told you, Yurei, you'd think I was crazy!" "I'm your best friend, (Y/N). Try me." "Fine, since you asked for it." Wait. Was it okay to tell her? She's always been amazing at keeping secrets, but would she keep this one?

"Come on, (Y/N), you have thirty minutes to spill the beans." "Okay, okay." Taking a deep breath, I made up my mind and decided to tell her the truth... the whole truth.

"I'm actually twenty-six years old, and I'm a time leaper from the future. Michi is just like me, and we've come back in time to save you and Draken because, on August third, you die in an internal conflict." After that, I braced myself for some sort of laughter, tantrum, or fist-throwing. But none of that ever came. Instead, Yurei's eyes began to fill with tears. "I knew you were different somehow."

"Huh?" "One minute you were just a punk, and the next, you were like some hardcore badass who took it upon herself to save the world." "Wait, so you've been speculating?" "Yeah, but I would have never imagined you would turn out to be, well, you, twelve years from now." "Me either, but the world has a funny way of working, huh?" "Yeah, it does." Yurei got off me and helped me to my feet.

"I do have one thing to ask." "Sure." "Is the Mitsuya of your world happy?" "No, he hasn't been since he lost you; you were the love of his life." "Jeez, what a dummy. That sounds like him." "Yeah, Takashi was always someone who loved more than the rest." "Well, it makes sense. That dummy is hopeless without me."  "The same could be said about you, Yurei!"
"Hey, that isn't true!"

"It is, but don't worry. I'll stop this from happening; I won't lose you guys twice."  "I know you will. But if conflict does arise, I won't leave Toman hanging, (y/n)."  "I know. Even if all my efforts go to waste and history does repeat itself, I'll protect you." "Awe, how poetic, (y/n)." "Oh, shut up!" I playfully nudged her before acknowledging that my phone had started to ring.
"One sec, it might be important." "Take your time."

I grabbed my phone from my pocket and answered it. To my surprise, it was Takemichi on the other line. "Hey, (y/n), we need to talk. Meet me outside of Hina's place." "Okay, is there any specific reason?" "Yeah, I'll explain when you get here." "Okay, see you then." Hanging up the phone, I turned to Yurei. "Well, looks like it's time for me to go. Before I do, you can't tell anyone what I've told you today, not even Takashi."

"I won't, Scouts' honor." "Also, when I time leap, you can't talk to me about it; the past me's consciousness takes back over." "I know that much. I've seen a few movies to know how to deal with all this." "Jeez, you're such a dork." "But you love me!" "Yeah, that I do." I gave Yurei one of the best smiles I could before waving goodbye. Whatever Takemichi needed, it sounded pretty serious. It looks like we might be time jumping again.

Chapter 9: You're Not What I was Expecting

Present Time

Your P.O.V

"Wait, slow down, Takemichi, and start again." Looking between the Naoto and I, Takemichi ran a hand through his messy black hair and sighed. "I already told you, Naoto! We need to track down Osanai! Something big happened to start this all, and I don't think Osanai was the brains behind the operations!" As he spoke, Naoto couldn't help but give him a perplexed look.

It was as if he was caught between wanting to believe Takemichi and follow his lead, but also reluctant to think Osanai was involved in anything bad. It didn't take long for Naoto's internal struggle to fade, and a smile crept onto his lips. "Way to think ahead, Takemichi. Let's do this your way for once." "Really?" Takemichi's eyes lit up, and I had to suppress a chuckle at his enthusiasm. The super sleuth in him was starting to show. "Cool! While you guys do that, I need to pursue my leads." Both men turned to look at me, and Takemichi shot me a glance before Naoto spoke up for the two of them.

"I have to know, where are you going?" I could lie and say I was going to Osanai's place, but that would be pointless. "I'm going to see Takashi." "No! I can't let you do that!" Naoto's response caught me off guard, and I felt a surge of irritation. "Why the hell not?" "It's too dangerous! I can't have you getting sucked back into this timeline's affairs." I felt my frustration boiling over, but I pulled out my phone and shared my location with him.

"What did you do that for?" he asked. "So you can keep tabs on me. I won't be long; just please let me go," I pleaded. Naoto considered my request for a moment before ultimately caving in. "Fine! But if things start to seem sketchy, you come right back, got it?" I nodded and pulled him into a quick embrace before grabbing my jacket and running out of the apartment. As I left, I dialed Mitsuya’s number, listening to the dial tone. It took a few rings, but Mitsuya finally answered.

"(Y/N)?" "Yeah, it's me." "Holy shit!? It's been almost a week since I last saw you! Are you okay? Where have you been? Kisaki is gathering all the executives together tonight, and I was starting to run out of excuses!" "I know, and I'm sorry, but I can't go tonight. I’ll need another cover." I could hear him groan on the other end. "You're killing me here, (Y/N)." "I know, but can you meet me at our spot? I want to talk to you about something."

"Sure, I'll see you in thirty minutes. I have a meeting with Smiley and Kisaki first." "Okay, see you soon." I hung up the phone, descended the stairs, and made my way to Shibuya Park. The entire walk, I kept looking over my shoulder. I didn't feel like I was being watched, but I couldn't be too carefree. I had to make it back to Takemichi and Naoto; I couldn't get pulled back into Kisaki's sick game. When I finally arrived at the park, I noticed Mitsuya was twenty minutes early. He was perched on our picnic table with his back to me, wearing a black hoodie.

It was a smart cover, but I hoped it wouldn't attract too much attention. I glanced around a few times to ensure the coast was clear before approaching him. I tapped his left shoulder and said, "I'm glad you were able to meet me so quickly. There are some things we need to discuss..." "That makes two of us... Sunshine." Sunshine? That voice... was it!? Pulling down the black hood, I revealed a thick head of golden hair.

"Mikey." As soon as I said this, he turned around and smiled down at me. "You've always been such a smart girl."

That smile, focused solely on me, made my heart race, and I felt faint. It had been ten long years since I last saw my Mikey, yet here he was, in the flesh. He looked a bit thinner and had bags under his eyes, but he was still my Mikey. It was enough to make me want to weep.

"Mikey..."

"I know, and God, how I wish our reunion could have gone so differently, but we don't have time for that, Sunshine." At his words, the reality of the situation crashed down on me, and all I could do was stare at him. "What do you mean?" "Mitsuya? He betrayed you. Kisaki got him to flip on you while you were gone; he isn't coming alone. He will have Nahoya and Yasuhiro with him; you need to go before it's too late."

When those words left his mouth, I felt my heart sink. A surge of emotions welled up inside me, but I knew I couldn't afford to feel them all right now. "I want to say you're lying to me, trying to get inside my head so I would surrender myself to you, but if you were against me, you wouldn't be here trying to save me..." Mikey offered an apologetic smile before taking my hand in his own.

"I know this isn't ideal, but please, for me, go. I'll find you again when the time is right. Take the hurt you're feeling, Sunshine, and use it as your guide."

Before I could say anything else, he leaned across the table and kissed the top of my forehead before disappearing into the woods. Every part of me was screaming, urging me to chase after him and make him stay, but the sensible part of me knew that if I did, I wouldn’t be able to find him. I had to leave before Mitsuya arrived. So, I got up and began my trek back to Naoto's apartment.

Takemichi's P.O.V

When Naoto and I returned from speaking with Osanai, we found (y/n) perched against the wall, her legs tucked tightly against her chest and her head buried in her knees. Our arrival didn’t seem to startle her, leading me to wonder if she had fallen asleep while waiting for us to return. Out of curiosity, I approached her and bent down in front of her. “(y/n), are you awake?”

“Uh huh,” she replied.

The sullen tone in her voice made me realize that whatever had happened with Mitsuya hadn’t gone well for her. I was concerned that she didn’t get what she hoped for by coming back to this future. I wanted to ask if she was okay, but I knew all too well that if she wanted to talk, she would initiate the conversation. Instead, I placed a single hand on her knee. “We got some answers from Osanai, and it seems I was right.”

This seemed to capture her attention because she lifted her head from her lap. I noticed her eyes were puffy, but I didn’t dare comment on it or ask why she had been crying. “I see. It seems we both got a few unexpected surprises,” she said. “What do you mean?” I asked. She cracked a half-sad smile and let out an exasperated sigh. “I didn’t get to talk to Takashi; it was quite the opposite.”

At this point, Naoto had joined us and was listening intently to what (y/n) had to say. “Who did you see?” he inquired. “Mikey,” she answered. Her response caught both Naoto and me by surprise. I’d be lying if I said I was expecting that to explain why she was so upset. “He pretty much caught wind of Kisaki’s plans for me and came to warn me. Takashi betrayed me.”

Naoto immediately went on high alert and was the first to speak again. “Wait, did they follow you here? How did you get away?” “They didn’t follow me because I never saw them, and like I said, Mikey warned me!”

I winced at the tone in (y/n)'s voice. I recognized that tone all too well; it was the same one she used when she was begging me not to leave her behind all those years ago. It wasn’t desperation or anger; it was genuine frustration and hurt. I wasn’t around all those years ago, but I knew I had to do something to ease her worry. So, I smiled and placed my hand atop her head. “Well, we’ll get our answers soon enough, okay? You’re not alone in this, so remember that.”

She simply nodded in response, and I decided it was time to share what we had learned. “Osanai told us that Draken and Mikey’s conflict started long before the battle on August third, when Toman and Moebius clashed for the first time. If we can prevent any fights from happening, we can change the future.” “But if you have any hopes of doing that, you need to go now. Osanai said Today is the day the first conflict occurs,” Naoto chimed in. “So it’s time to get moving.”

I could tell she understood, so I didn’t make her stand. Instead, I embraced her and held my hand out to Naoto. “The next time we meet, let’s all get together, okay?” “I’m counting on it, Takemichi, (y/n),” Naoto replied. When our hands connected, a familiar bright light enveloped my vision, sending me back to the past.

Chapter 10: An Outburst of Fights (Both Within & Out)

Chapter Text

Twelve Years Ago

(July 2005)

Your P.O.V

"Pah, you know you can't just rush into these things! You need to have a clear conscience." "I know, but it's hard! That Osanai guy is a real piece of work!" "I agree; all of us do. But if you lose your temper too early, the fight will end with Osanai as the victor!" "I got it, Draken! Get off my damn back!"

So, I'm back... Huh?

When my vision returned, I glanced up and discovered that Mikey was sitting on the concrete slab next to me. Turning my head, I noticed that Draken, Peh, and Pah were all locked in a heated discussion. If I heard correctly, it was about Osanai and Moebius. Still filled with a whirlwind of emotions from the future, I stood up and walked over to Pah, placing my hand on his shoulder.

"You know what, Pah? I say lay it all on the line and go for it. We're young, and we only live once. Show this Osanai scumbag why you're the 3rd Division's captain and wash away all his dirty sins!" It seemed my statement lit a fire under him, but the same couldn't be said for Mikey and Draken. "Hold up a damn second! Just a few minutes ago, you were agreeing with me, (y/n)!"

I turned my gaze to meet his and stared him down, causing him to return the favor. "Well, guess what, Kenny? People can change their minds at any time. I can tell you right now that if Pah doesn't knock his teeth in, I will." Taken aback, Draken's gaze softened a bit into concern. "Are you alright? You were perfectly fine and composed a few moments ago. What the hell happened?"

"I told you, dickhead, people can change their minds!" I was irritated by the entire situation and closed the distance between Draken and me, launching one of my famous kicks toward his left temple. Unfortunately, right before it could land, Mikey intervened. "Sunshine. You’re the first one to lecture the boys about infighting, so do you want to tell me what the hell happened in the past few minutes that made you flip?"

When he addressed me, all I saw was my Mikey from twelve years in the future. My mouth moved quicker than my brain could process, and I practically yelled at him for something this version of him hadn't done to me yet. "Please! You're the last one who gets to lecture anyone! You always do as you please, then pounce around with your cryptic messages! What's worse is that you kiss me and leave right after! You must know how that makes me feel!"

My outburst caught everyone, including Mikey, by surprise. He gave me an odd look before gently letting my leg go, allowing me to regain my balance. I felt ridiculous as soon as the gravity of the situation settled. Coming back after everything that had just occurred wasn't my smartest move. I didn't realize I was still so angry. With his future self-coming and going so fast, and Mitsuya's betrayal, it cut way too deep.

"Sunshine? I hate to make matters worse, but I don't know what you're talking about. Did I do something to upset you? If so, your anger should only be directed at me, not at Kenny or any of the other guys." He was right. I hated the way I had lashed out, and it was rather embarrassing. I didn’t usually lose my cool like that, not now, not ever. "You're right; I don’t know what came over me... I’m sorry."

Sinking back down, I buried my head in my knees, allowing everyone to carry on as they once were. Pah and Draken resumed discussing their issues with Moebius, while Pah often chimed in, trying to contribute. It took a moment for me to realize Mikey had gone quiet, and when I lifted my head, I was surprised to see him crouched right in front of me. "Do you want to go somewhere and talk it out? You have something on your mind, and how you feel matters to me."

Hearing him say that made my cheeks flush, and I had to suppress the sudden urge to cry. Before I could even answer, our brief moment of calm was interrupted when Takemichi came running toward Mikey and me like a madman. "Mikey!" "Huh?" Mikey turned his attention to Takemichi, clearly confused as to why he was there. "Don't mind that! I just can’t let any of you fight Moebius!"

When he said that, I almost punched myself in the face. I was so caught up in my own world that I had forgotten why I came here in the first place. "What the hell?" Takemichi's outburst caught Pah's attention, and I sighed. "Mind your business, punk! Piss off; we’ll do as we please!" Annoyed, I took off my shoe and threw it at Pah's head. "Oi! Douche! You don’t get to speak to my brother like that!"

"What the hell, (y/n)?" Pah threw his hands up at me as Takemichi began to speak again, addressing Mikey. "Mikey, please! You have to hear me out! I can't let you guys fight Moebius! I can't say why or how I know, but it’s just going to end worse than it is now!" "That's it! I’ve had enough of the Hanagaki twins and their constant flip-flopping on this damned topic!" Watching Pah rush at Takemichi, my fight-or-flight instinct kicked in once more. One minute, I was sitting there, and the next, I was embracing my idiot twin brother.

I knew that if Pah hit me, it wouldn't hurt too badly, and I would be able to recover. I just couldn't let Takemichi take any punches. Shutting my eyes, I braced for the inevitable impact, only for it to never come. When I opened my eyes, I saw Mikey standing in front of us, gripping Pah's fist tightly.

"Guys, that's enough," he said, releasing Pah's fist before turning to face Takemichi and me. "Takemichi, I appreciate your determination, but there's no changing our course of action. Toman will fight Moebius. I know you have a bad feeling about it, but I promise you we're not a bunch of rookies. Have faith in us, okay?" Mikey shared a small smile with Takemichi before Draken spoke up.

"That was a great speech, Mikey, but for once, I think I agree with Takemichi. It wouldn't hurt to investigate Moebius a little more before we just jump into this fight." Mikey was clearly annoyed by that comment, and within seconds, he was sizing Draken up. "Eh? Are you going against Toman?" he challenged. Draken returned the scowl, responding, "Huh? When did I say that?"

Before Mikey could respond again, a man's voice bellowed from outside. Shit... Takemichi and I were too late; Moebius was here.

Takemichi's P.O.V

"Oi! So you're the punks running your mouths about wanting a fight, huh?" The voice cut through the air like a blade. "Got tired of waiting, so I came to find you myself!" The guy in the red jumpsuit and bleached hair was unmistakably Osanai. Younger, cockier, and radiating arrogance. "Osanai, you piece of shit!" Pah bellowed, but Osanai’s eyes were locked on me.

Great. That was never a good sign. And of course, my mouth had to get involved. "Uhm... can I help you?" "Yeah, you’ve been looking down on me this whole time. Think you’re better than me? I’m here to fix that." Oh no. Not this again.

One second I was standing tall, the next, my body was a punching bag. Osanai’s fists landed like sledgehammers, each hit sending shockwaves through my nerves. I couldn’t fight back. I don’t even remember when I lost the ability to. Just pain. And shame. Thankfully, Pah stepped in. "Hey! Pick on someone your own size, asshole! Your fight’s with me!" "Pah, wait!" I tried to stand, to wedge myself between them, but my legs gave out and I hit the ground hard.

"Stay down, Takemitchy," Mikey said calmly. "Pah’s right. This is his fight now." I turned to Mikey. That grin on his face, he was confident. Too confident. I didn’t dare voice my doubts. Mikey didn’t take kindly to pessimism. But watching Pah square off against Osanai? It was clear who had the upper hand. Pah was already stumbling, missing steps. "You know, Takemitchy," Mikey said suddenly, "You need more faith. It’s not raw strength that wins fights, it’s the will to make things right. You took down Kiyomasa, remember? You should know that better than anyone."

I stared at him, stunned. I had almost forgotten.

Still, watching Pah get pummeled wasn’t easy. "Don’t worry too much," Mikey added, "Toman’s got this. Especially since your sister’s handling the light work." He pointed behind him. (Y/n) was tearing through Moebius like a storm, kicks, punches, headbutts. Each one dropped like dominoes. I winced with every hit. I knew each fall meant another bruise she’d carry. Watching Pah get hurt was hard. Watching (Y/n) fight like that? It was brutal. I’d have to patch her up later, just like she always did for me.

Behind me, Pah was fading fast. Osanai was relentless. But (Y/n) kept going, taking down his men one by one. "Have faith," Mikey said. "They know what they’re doing." It wasn’t about faith. It was about watching people I cared about get hurt. (Y/n) fought with her emotions, and she was still raw from earlier. Then the air shifted. I turned back just in time to see Pah collapse against Mikey, whispering something I couldn’t hear. Osanai grinned like a maniac.

"So, who’s next? Your ‘hard hitter’ couldn’t cut it. Who wants a piece of me? Toman ready for another loss?" "He didn’t lose asshat." Osanai blinked. "Huh? Are you stupid? Who said that? Step up!" Mikey gently laid Pah beside me, then stepped forward. If I hadn’t been watching, I’d have missed it, he moved like lightning. One kick. That’s all it took. Osanai hit the ground, twitching.

Mikey crouched, lifted his head. "Toman doesn’t lose. Not as long as we keep fighting." Everyone froze. (Y/n) walked up, brushing dust off her knuckles. "Damn. Finished already?" "Sorry, sunshine." But her eyes were hollow. That emptiness scared me more than anything.

Your P.O.V

As our fight with Moebius came to an end, I glanced down at my twin brother. His face was etched with concern, he could still read me like a book. He knew I hadn’t recovered from our trip to the future. And now, the exhaustion from taking down three-fourths of Moebius was hitting me like a freight train. My bones ached, my limbs felt like jelly. I was relieved it was over… or so I thought.

My attention shifted to Mikey and Draken just in time to see Osanai stagger to his feet, drunk and wild-eyed, charging at Mikey with singular intent. Time seemed to slow. Draken threw himself in front of Mikey, absorbing the full force of Osanai’s attack. Flashbacks from the future surged through my mind, and my body moved before I could think. I lunged at Osanai, desperate to stop history from repeating. But he was too fast & I slid past him, landing hard. Behind me, cries erupted, but I couldn’t turn around. I didn’t come back to watch it all happen again. Please, not again. Open your eyes. Help him.

I forced my mind and body to sync, and the world snapped back to normal speed. When I looked up, instead of Draken impaled, I saw Osanai crumpled in a twisted heap, a shattered glass bottle beside him. Fury burned across his face as he scanned the room. “Listen up, Moebius! Your commander’s down! You’re under Toman now!” Before anyone could react, sirens wailed in the distance.

“Shit, the cops!” “Time to scram!” Moebius scattered like rats, leaving Osanai behind. Draken wasn’t having it.  “Hey! Moebius! You assholes, help Osanai get out of here!” A few returned, but it was pointless. Things took a darker turn & Pah stabbed Osanai in the back. “Pah, you idiot!” “A knife!? You brought a knife!?” Draken and Peh tore into him, while Mikey stood frozen, locked in his own internal war. Something bad was brewing. I could feel it.

“Never mind that we have to go!” Draken grabbed Pah’s arm, but Pah resisted. “You guys go. I’ll stay.” We were stunned. “Goddamn it, we don’t have time for this! Mikey, (Y/n), we’re leaving!” “We can’t leave him, Kenny! Pah, come with us!” “I can’t. It’s my mess. Sorry Mikey, Draken, (Y/n), Peh… I’m leaving the third division to you.” In the chaos, Draken pulled Mikey and me out, and we ran. A few blocks away, behind a neighborhood, we heard a thud.

Mikey and I stopped cold. Takemichi had collapsed. The fighting, the time jumps, it finally caught up to him. “Michi!” I rushed toward him, but Draken held me back. “(Y/n), we can’t. We have to keep moving.” “Like hell we will! That’s my twin brother, you asshole!” “I’ll call Emma, I promise. But we have to go.” Torn between Draken and Takemichi, I hesitated. He’d be okay… he had to be.

“Damn it! Fine! But I’m leaving a marker!” I yanked off my shoe and tossed it onto a light pole. “Emma will know.” Draken nodded, and we ran. Mikey stayed close. By the time we reached Musashi Shrine, Mitsuya and Yurei were already there. “What the hell’s going on!? I got Draken’s text and rushed over!” “Cops showed. It’s a mess,” Draken said, launching into the breakdown. Mikey joined him, leaving me with Yurei.

“You look like hell, (Y/n). You okay?” I laughed, running a hand through my hair. “Worst day ever. Between time jumps and this mess, I’m running on fumes.” “Oh shit! You’re you again!” I blinked. “What?” “Your older self. You jumped without warning!” I gave her an apologetic smile. She just laughed. “No worries. I can always tell when it’s not you.” “Really?” “Yeah. You’re my best friend. I know the difference.”

“Touché.” Her humor was the relief I didn’t know I needed. As we laughed, the tension drained from me. Whoever said instant decompression wasn’t real was a liar. Unfortunately, my stamina left with it. The world spun too fast, voices faded. My knees buckled. I braced for impact—but it never came. With the last of my strength, I looked up. Mikey was smiling down at me. “Rest, Sunshine. We got you.” His smile blurred through my tears as I finally let go.

Chapter 11: Boy's Will Be Boy's

Chapter Text

Your P.O.V

“With all due respect, it’s not my job to tell her. That’s kind of your responsibility.” “I don’t know if I can. She was already upset with me earlier, and this might just break her.” “Tough shit, Mikey! You lit the match & now you deal with the fire.” “Mitsuya…” “Mikey, when you came to me with this, I told you straight! I’m staying neutral. I won’t pick sides. That’s final. So don’t try to drag me into this again.”

Tell me. What happened? What choices were made? Where was I anyway?

The sterile sting of antiseptic clawed its way into my nose, dragging me back from unconsciousness. My head throbbed, like someone had stuffed it with cotton and regret. Voices, sharp, familiar, cut through the haze. They belonged to Mikey and Mitsuya, and it seemed like they were arguing.

“If you two are going to bicker like an old married couple, the least you could do is bring a girl a cold drink for when your idiocy finally wakes her up.” “Sunshine!” “(Y/n)!”

My eyelids fluttered open, the harsh white light of the hospital room stabbing at my senses. I blinked, trying to piece everything together and why my body felt so heavy. Takemichi lay beside me, his chest rising and falling in slow, steady rhythm. Relief flooded my chest, he wasn’t abandoned in some grimy Shibuya alley. He was here. Safe. For now. I turned my gaze to Mikey and Mitsuya, who were staring at me like I’d just risen from the dead. “Oh god… how long was I out?” They exchanged glances, the weight of their silence pressing down on me before Mitsuya finally spoke.

“A day and a half. You’re the first to wake up. Takemichi hasn’t moved at all.” A cold chill ran down my spine. A day and a half? What the hell happened? Was he hurt worse than I thought? I clenched my fists beneath the blanket, forcing myself not to panic. I had to believe he’d wake up. I had to. I took a deep breath, grounding myself, then locked eyes with the two boys in front of me. “I caught the tail end of your conversation. So go ahead & tell me what you’re so afraid to say.”

Another glance was exchanged between them. Mikey’s jaw tightened before he finally spoke. “Kenny and I… we’re fighting. Badly.” “About what?” “It’s about Pah.” He hesitated, his voice barely above a whisper. “I wanted to pay his bail. Kenny said we shouldn’t.”

I stared at him, stunned. That’s what this was about? Pah’s bail? That’s what tore them apart? “You’ve got to be kidding me. That’s what all this chaos is over?” Mitsuya let out a laugh he’d clearly been choking back, while Mikey’s expression soured. “Yes! And I’m not letting it go!” “I’m not saying you should, but seriously? You and Kenny are tearing each other apart over this?” “It’s not stupid!” “It is! Pah made his choice. We should respect that. I’m with Takashi, I’m not picking sides because you’re both acting like children!”

“Sunshine, don’t be like that…” I couldn’t believe it had come to this. The weight of everything, the hospital, Takemichi’s silence, the tension between my friends, it all crashed down on me.

“Sano Manjiro! I love you. I really do. But Pah is his own person. He wouldn’t want you two fighting over him. So please… cut the crap.” Mikey’s eyes softened, the fire in them dimming. “I don’t want to fight with you, (Y/n). I’ll give you space. Let me know when you’re discharged, okay?” “Fine. But this conversation isn’t over.” “I know. I’ll see you soon. I love you.”

He leaned down, kissed the top of my head with a tenderness that made my heart ache, then grabbed his coat and walked out. Now it was just me, Takemichi’s unmoving form, and Mitsuya, who looked like he’d aged ten years in the last two days. “Was I too harsh?” “Not at all. Mikey needs tough love, especially from you.” “I didn’t change his mind.” “Maybe not now. But you planted the seed. He’ll come around.” “I hope so. Michi needs to wake up soon. He’s always been better at handling these things.” “I wouldn’t say that. You’ve always been the glue holding those two together.”

“You think so?” “I know so.” Mitsuya gave me one of his warmest smiles, the kind that made you believe everything might be okay. “I’ve gotta check on Luna and Mana. I’ll be back soon, alright?” “Yeah. See you in a bit, Takashi.” He gave me one last look before slinging his bag over his shoulder and slipping out the door. But I knew—deep in my bones—that this fight between Mikey and Draken wasn’t ending anytime soon. And if Takemichi and I didn’t fix it before August third… history would repeat itself. And everything we’d fought for would be lost.

Three Days Later

Takemichi's P.O.V

“I finally did it,” I breathed, the words tumbling out with a mix of pride and exhaustion. My fingers trembled slightly as I placed the last piece of the puzzle—an oddly satisfying click that should’ve felt like triumph. But instead, a wave of disappointment washed over me. Three days of bedrest, and this was my grand achievement.

“Seriously? That’s incredible, Michi,” (y/n) said, her voice warm but tinged with concern. She’d bounced back in just a day, already back on her feet, trying to keep the fragile peace between Mikey and Draken. But even she admitted it was like trying to glue together shattered glass, they couldn’t even be in the same room without the air turning toxic.

“Michi,” she asked softly, her eyes searching mine, “how are we going to get them to make up?” I hesitated. “I… I don’t know.” “Damn it,” she muttered, frustration flickering across her face. “I was hoping you had a plan.” “I’m sorry,” I said, the words feeling hollow. “It’s okay,” she sighed, rubbing her temples. “It’s just… I can’t bear to see history repeat itself.” “That makes two of us,” I replied, my voice low. “Because of you, I got to know them both. I don’t want our future to be the one we saw before.”

She nodded, her jaw clenched. “Same here. But all they do is fight, and it’s driving everyone insane.” I looked at her, surprised. “I’m honestly shocked you’re even trying to mediate. I figured you’d side with Mikey.” Her eyes narrowed. “Really, Michi? You know I don’t pick sides.” “I know, I know,” I said quickly. “It’s just… after how long you went without him…” She paused, her gaze drifting to the floor. “I get why you’d think that. Honestly, if I had the chance, I would’ve gone back long before our near-death experience.”

“Why?” I asked gently. “Because I love him,” she whispered, her voice cracking. “And when he vanished, it felt like he took a piece of me with him.” The pain in her eyes hit me like a punch to the gut. I’d spent twelve years away from Hinata, only recently realizing how deeply I loved her. But (y/n)? She’d known all along. Ten years of silence, and still, her heart hadn’t wavered.

In that moment, something shifted inside me. I wasn’t just fighting for myself anymore. I was fighting for her too, for the future she deserved. “Don’t you dare pity me, Michi,” she snapped suddenly, her fire reigniting. “I’ll kick your ass if you do!” I blinked. “Huh? What makes you think you could?” Crap. Busted. Her eyes narrowed, ready to pounce, but before she could unleash her wrath, the door burst open.

“Takemichi! You’re out of the hospital!?” Akkun’s voice rang out, followed by the rest of the squad, Yamagishi, Makoto, and Tatsuya. “Damn! Guess I can’t flirt with those hot nurses anymore,” Makoto groaned. “Shouldn’t you still be in bed?” Yamagishi asked, raising an eyebrow. “Oh, (y/n)’s here too!” Tatsuya chimed in. “Good to see you too, Dipshit Squad,” she said dryly. “She still hates us,” Makoto muttered.

“I wouldn’t say that,” I teased. “She actually adores you guys.” “Michi, you talk too much,” (y/n) said through clenched teeth. I turned to (y/n), just in time to catch a pillow to the face. She glared at me, but the corners of her mouth twitched. The room erupted in laughter, and even she couldn’t help but smile. As we all settled in, Akkun and Yamagishi filled us in on the Mikey-Draken situation. Their version echoed (y/n)’s earlier account—except when they said the friendship was over, it hit us like a slap.

“Wait, seriously!?” I blurted out. They paused… then burst into laughter. “Come on, nothing could break those two up,” Akkun said, grinning. “Who are you dweebs name-dropping now?” a deep voice called from the doorway. We turned to see Draken leaning against the frame, arms crossed, a smirk playing on his lips. “Draken! What are you doing here?” I asked, startled. “Came to check on you, Takemitchy,” he said, stepping inside. “Looks like your sister here really does heal faster, huh?”

“Oh come on, that’s not fair!” I groaned. He chuckled. “Relax, I’m just teasing. I brought watermelon. Figured we could all use a break.” “Hell yeah!” Makoto cheered. “Let’s dig in!” And just like that, the tension melted away. For a moment, we weren’t burdened by fractured friendships or uncertain futures. We were just a bunch of idiots, laughing, healing, and sharing watermelon, hoping that maybe, just maybe, things could still be okay.

Your P.O.V

While the boys laughed over slices of watermelon, I slipped quietly outside. The sticky summer air clung to my skin, but it was still better than the tension inside. I needed space. Space from the noise, from the pressure, and especially from Draken. Being near him right now felt like walking a tightrope over broken glass. I couldn’t pretend everything was fine.

I’d almost chosen sides when Mikey left my hospital room. The way he walked out was like déjà vu, like that day in the park when he vanished without a word. I hated myself for freezing back then. I should’ve chased him, even if I couldn’t catch up. At least I would’ve known I tried. That regret still gnawed at me.

The weight of it all, the future, the uncertainty, the fragile hope, was suffocating. Takemichi and I were supposed to fix everything, but we were fumbling in the dark, praying our guesses were right. Every move had to be perfect. No room for mistakes. No second chances.

“Hey, Sunshine. You’re overthinking again. Your right eye’s twitching,” Mikey’s voice cut through my spiral like a blade through fog. I blinked, startled to find him inches from my face. “Ahh! Mikey!” I stumbled back instinctively, only to catch my foot on a crack in the pavement. I nearly went down hard, but Mikey’s reflexes saved me from a bruised tailbone. “Careful, Sunshine. You’ve already hurt yourself once.”

“Not true,” I muttered, brushing myself off. “I passed out from exhaustion. I was fine the next day.” “Of course. You’re totally right.” His smile was soft, almost teasing but it faded fast. I didn’t understand why until Draken’s voice thundered from behind us. “What the hell are you doing here?!” “What am I doing here?! I could ask you the same thing!” I stepped aside instinctively, giving them space. The air between them crackled with old grudges and unresolved tension.

Takemichi joined me, and together we watched the two of them circle each other like storm clouds ready to collide. Their argument was childish. Who was loyal to whom, who had betrayed whom. It was exhausting. I didn’t want to hear it anymore. Takemichi felt the same. “You guys need to cut the shit! You’re best friends! This is all so stupid!” he snapped, his voice shaking with frustration.

“Are you talking to me, Takemitchy?” Draken growled, grabbing Takemichi by the collar. That gesture, it brought back memories of the school hallway, and it lit a fire in me. “Hey, asshole! Get off my brother!” “Eh?” Before things could spiral further, Mikey wandered over to Takemichi’s bike. “Hey, be careful, Mikey! That’s my precious Hayate!” Takemichi’s voice was laced with panic, but it was too late. Mikey hurled the bike like it was nothing, and chaos erupted.

Baseball bats, trading cards, soccer balls, everything Takemichi held dear was suddenly airborne. It was a mess of flying memories and shattered sentiment. I felt drained just watching it. But Takemichi? He was livid. When the dust settled, he stood there trembling, eyes blazing. “HEY, ASSHOLES! CUT THE SHIT! YOU DESTROYED EVERY PRECIOUS MEMORY I HAVE!” “Whoa, Takemitchy, it’s not that deep.”

“Yeah, we’re sorry.” “YOU’RE SORRY?! NO, YOU’RE NOT! YOU DON’T EVEN CARE THAT I’M HERE!” His fury boiled over, and he lunged at Mikey, fists flying. Mikey dodged every punch with ease, like it was a game. Eventually, Takemichi tripped and landed in a heap of trash. When he emerged, something brown and foul clung to his hair. Dog shit. And somehow, in that ridiculous, disgusting moment, I knew everything was going to be okay.

He kept yelling, but Akkun pulled him back, and he collapsed to his knees, breathless. The mood shifted. Draken and Mikey burst into laughter when they noticed the mess on his head. “Huh? What the hell?!” “Ahh, the shithead’s gonna get us, Kenny!” “Gotta scram quick, Mikey!” The two of them took off, laughing and shouting nonsense, their fight forgotten. Takemichi’s friends chased after them, leaving the rest of us in peace.

“You did it, Michi,” I said quietly. “You stopped their fighting.” “I guess I did, didn’t I?” “Yeah. Now let’s get the stench out of your hair and catch up with them.” “Okay.” And just like that, the storm passed. The future was still uncertain, but for now, we had a moment of peace. And sometimes, that’s enough.

Takemichi's P.O.V

After (y/n) helped me wash the shit out of my hair, we headed to the neighborhood park where everyone had already gathered. The air was light, filled with laughter and chatter. Mikey and Draken finally patched things up, and the moment they did, I caught the radiant smile spreading across (y/n)'s face, it was like the sun had stayed out a little longer just for them.

Eventually, Draken, Mikey, and (y/n) ran off to join Akkun and the others in a game, leaving me alone on the bench for a bit. I didn’t mind. It gave me a moment to breathe. That is, until I heard a familiar voice call out from my left. “Hina, Emma!” Emma’s eyes widened as she rushed over. “Holy crap, Takemichi, how did you pull that off?” “What do you mean?” “They’re not fighting anymore!”

“Oh, that? Let’s just say I used my head for once.” Emma grinned. “Well, thank you. I’m really glad they’re back to normal. And speaking of…” She nudged Hinata forward with a mischievous smile. Hinata hesitated for a second, then looked at me. “Takemichi… are you free on August third?” “Yeah, I think so. Why?” “There’s a summer festival. I was wondering if you’d like to go with me.”

“Of course I would.” “Really!? Emma, did you hear that?” Emma laughed. “Told you he’d say yes. He’s your boyfriend, silly.” Hinata and I exchanged a warm smile as she stepped closer, standing beside me. In that moment, everything felt right. I deserved this, didn’t I, Naoto? After everything we went through to save the future… maybe it’s okay to enjoy a small moment like this. To hear the festival bells ring at midnight and know, deep down, that the future really did change.

Chapter 12: It's August Third

Chapter Text

Your P.O.V

It was August Third.

Five hours until midnight. Five hours until fate was supposed to rip Draken and Yurei from our lives. And yet, despite the ticking clock and the weight of everything we knew, a strange calm settled over me like a whisper in the chaos. It didn’t make sense. Nothing did. The infighting had stopped, sure, but that didn’t mean the war was over. Deep down, I knew we were standing on a fault line, and it was only a matter of time before it cracked wide open.

Ever since I agreed to tag along on Mikey’s so-called “business trip,” my gut had been screaming at me. Something was wrong. Something was coming. And it wasn’t going to wait politely for us to be ready. “Sunshine? You still with me?” Mikey’s voice cut through my spiraling thoughts like a blade. I blinked, pulled back into the moment, and answered with a quiet, heavy tone. “Yeah… I just can’t shake the feeling that we’re headed the wrong way.”

I saw it then, the subtle shift in his posture, the way his back muscles tensed beneath his shirt. He was listening now. Really listening. “What makes you say that?” “Everything,” I said, my voice trembling with urgency. “Doesn’t it strike you as strange? How quickly things went back to normal after you and Kenny fought? Like someone hit a reset button and expected us not to question it.”

Mikey let out a low breath. “I’d call that ancient history… but something tells me you don’t.” “Because I don’t,” I snapped, my heart pounding. “This all started with Pah. And you know who we haven’t seen or heard from since he got locked up? Peh Fucking Yan!” That name hung in the air like a curse. Mikey’s reaction was instant & he yanked the handlebars, pulling over so fast the tires screamed against the pavement. The bike jerked to a halt, and he turned to me, eyes sharp. “What are you getting at, (y/n)?”

“I think this whole trip is a distraction. I think the ‘business’ you’re supposed to settle is a lie. And I think leaving Draken alone right now is the worst mistake we could make.” The moment those words left my mouth, something shifted. Like a puzzle piece finally snapping into place. Mikey didn’t hesitate; he pulled out his phone and dialed Mitsuya. I watched him, breath held, as he spoke in clipped, urgent tones.

Then his expression changed. His jaw clenched. His eyes darkened. “Shit. I’ll be there soon,” he said, and hung up. He turned to me, voice low and fierce. “Sunshine… your instincts were dead-on. Peh’s betrayed us. He’s teamed up with Moebius. They’re going after Kenny.” My blood ran cold. “Hold on tight,” Mikey growled, revving the engine. “Because I swear to you I’m not letting that bastard lay a finger on Kenny.”

I gripped him with everything I had as the bike roared to life, tearing down the road like a bullet. We swerved through traffic, left lane, right lane, no hesitation. Mikey was a blur of focus and fury, and I trusted him with my life. But it wasn’t my life I was worried about. It was Drakens. It was Yureis. It was the fragile thread holding our world together. I could only pray Takemichi was doing everything he could to stop what was coming. Because if we were too late… there wouldn’t be anything left to save.

Takemichi's P.O.V

After Hina freed me from the ropes and poured her heart into a pep talk that lit a fire in my chest, I bolted toward the parking lot like my life depended on it because it did. Draken’s life was hanging by a thread, and I couldn’t let history repeat itself. Not after everything (y/n) and I had fought for. My feet pounded the pavement, breath ragged, heart screaming, “Please, let him be okay!”

As I reached the lot, headlights cut through the dusk, Mitsuya and Yurei had just pulled in. Relief surged through me like a tidal wave. “Takemichi! Thank god we found you!” Mitsuya shouted, jumping off his bike. “I feel the same! But it’s bad, Mitsuya—Draken’s in serious trouble!” We both started talking over each other, voices tangled in panic. “Yeah, I know—it was Peh! That traitor!” “Kiyomasa’s gonna kill him!”

Yurei’s eyes darted between us, confusion etched across her face. “Wait, what? Peh? I thought it was Kiyomasa?” “Peh’s lost it,” Mitsuya growled. “He’s furious about Pah and teamed up with Moebius to take him down.” “What the hell?! Is he out of his mind?” I snapped. “Yeah, he’s completely unhinged.” Mitsuya scanned the lot, eyes sharp. Then he froze. “There! Peh’s bike. He’s close.”

“Where did you last see Draken?” he asked. “He was still at the festival with Emma!” “You think he’s still there?” “I don’t know but we have to try!” “Then let’s move!” Without hesitation, the three of us took off, feet slapping the pavement, adrenaline surging. Halfway there, a memory from Naoto surfaced, something about the location of Draken’s death. “Wait! Mitsuya!” He slowed. “What is it?”

“Is there another parking lot nearby?” “Yeah, around the back. Hidden from the main road.” “That’s it! That’s where they’ll strike, it’s secluded, perfect for an ambush.” Mitsuya’s eyes widened. “Damn it, you’re right. Good thinking, Takemitchy.” “Thanks,” I said, already turning toward the back lot. We arrived soaked in sweat and rain, lungs burning, but we weren’t too late. Just ahead, Draken was locked in combat, fists flying against a swarm of Moebius thugs. And there, at the center of it all, stood Peh, his face twisted with rage.

“Draken!” we shouted in unison. He glanced back, gave a quick wave, then turned to land another blow. We rushed to him, just in time to catch him as he collapsed. “Mitsuya, Yurei—can you handle the rest?” “With pleasure,” Mitsuya said, cracking his knuckles. “I’ve been itching to kick some ass,” Yurei added, her eyes gleaming. “Time for Spitfire to unleash hell,” Mitsuya smirked. “Oh, she will. It’s Yurei, after all.”

They exchanged a grin, but then froze. “You hear that?” Yurei whispered. “That engine—I’d recognize it anywhere,” Mitsuya said. “What’s going on?” I asked, breathless. “Mikey. He’s coming and fast.” “That means all our commanders will be here.” “(y/n) went with him, right?” “She did.” Moments later, Mikey and (y/n) roared into the lot, their presence like a thunderclap. Mikey’s gaze was ice-cold, fixed on Peh and the Moebius crew.

“So you send me away just to pin Kenny’s death on me?” Mikey said, voice low and lethal. “How rich, Peh. You talk about honor, yet you hide behind scum.” “You don’t know anything!” Peh spat. “You’re the reason Pah went to jail!” “Peh, stop! We don’t have to do this!” I pleaded. But another voice cut through the chaos. A boy stepped forward from the Moebius ranks—spiked hair tipped in blonde, tattoos crawling across his hands.

“This fight’s happening,” he sneered. “And I, Hanma Shuji, get to clash with the invincible Mikey. I get to kill him. This is gonna be fun.” We were outnumbered, until the sound of engines filled the air like a war drum. One by one, Toman’s riders arrived, swelling our ranks from six to over a hundred and fifty. “We haven’t brawled like this in ages,” Draken muttered, rising to his feet. “Just the thought gets my blood pumping.”

“You and me both, Kenny,” Mikey replied. Watching them charge into battle was like witnessing a legend unfold—raw, noble, terrifying. But I knew the stakes. I knew what the future held. And I knew one thing with absolute certainty:

No matter what it took, I would protect Draken. Even if it cost me everything.

Chapter 13: The Battle of August Third [From Y/N'S P.O.V]

Chapter Text

Your P.O.V

It had been too long since Toman tasted the chaos of a full-blown brawl. The air was thick with tension, the kind that made your pulse race before the first punch was even thrown. Mikey turned to me, his voice calm but laced with fire. “It’s been a while since Toman’s had an all-out fight. You ready for this, Sunshine?” I met his gaze, a smirk tugging at my lips. “You bet your ass I am. This one’s going straight into Toman’s history books.”

“You can say that again,” he chuckled, but before the moment could settle, Hanma slithered between us like a shadow with teeth. “Don’t bother saying goodbye, lovebirds,” Hanma sneered, eyes glinting with malice. “Once I’m done with your ‘invincible Mikey,’ his precious little Sunshine will be mine.” I stepped back instinctively, repulsed. I’d never met this man, yet he spoke like he knew me, like I was some twisted prize in his sick game. That was a mystery for another day. Right now, the fight was here, and it was real.

Mikey’s voice cut through the tension like a blade. “In your dreams! Sunshine is mine and mine alone!”

And with that, the second collision with Moebius erupted like a thunderclap. The parking lot transformed into a battlefield. I lost sight of Draken almost instantly, swallowed by the chaos. Instead, I found myself surrounded by Hanma’s lackeys. “You can have the first punch, doll,” one sneered. “It’s the nicest thing we can do before we lay your ass out,” another added. “Wow, I get the first hit? How generous,” I replied, voice dripping with sarcasm.

They underestimated me. They always did. Being a girl in a gang came with its own twisted advantage, watching their smug faces crumble when I knocked the first one flat with a boot to the jaw. The second kissed concrete. Three more stood in my way. “You idiots! The boss told us not to underestimate the girls in Toman!” one barked. I tilted my head. “So… who’s next?” They hesitated. Big mistake.

“It’s a trick question, morons.” One by one, they fell. But just as I drop-kicked the last one, someone caught my leg mid-air, flipping me upside down like a rag doll. “Hey! Asshole! Hands off!” I twisted, trying to get a look at him. Moebius. Of course. “So you’re Mikey’s girl, huh?” “Yeah, and what’s it to you?” “Just wanted to know who to go easy on. Boss doesn’t want us messing up your pretty little face.”

Pretty little face? Oh, hell no. “You’ll regret saying that.” He didn’t understand until my knee met his groin. He dropped me instantly, groaning. I followed up with a knee to his jaw, sending him crashing to the pavement. “Who says I’m just a pretty face now?” I stepped over the pile of bodies, heading toward Mitsuya and Yurei, until Takemichi’s scream shattered everything.

“Draken!!” Noticing Mikey from afar, I watched as he turned the same time I did. There Draken was, lying in a pool of blood, his body limp, his life slipping away. "Mikey, (y/n)! Draken… I think he’s dead!” No. No, no, no. This couldn’t be happening. We’d fought too hard, come too far. My stomach twisted, my heart dropped. But then—Draken coughed. Blood spilled from his lips, but he was alive.

“Takemitchy! I’m leaving Draken to you! Please, take care of him!” Takemichi nodded, trembling, and carried Draken away. Go, Michi. Save him. Save our future. With Mikey locked in combat with Hanma, I turned back to Mitsuya and Yurei. They were surrounded. “Well, shit,” I muttered. “This has just gotten ten times harder.” I sprinted toward them, tackling one of the Moebius thugs to the ground.

“Nice of you to drop in,” Mitsuya said breathlessly. “Figured you could use a hand.” “Yeah, these assholes don’t quit.” “Let me help then.” More enemies closed in. “If you don’t take out at least six, Takashi, you owe me Yakisoba. Same goes for you, Yurei.” “It’s a wager then!” “Loser buys Yakisoba!” We grinned, then dove into the fray. I took into account my exhaustion but I pushed on.

My limbs ached, my breath came in ragged bursts. But I kept going. I had to. I dropped the last guy and turned and froze. A knife. A flash of silver slicing right through Yurei's abdomen. “Yur…ei?” “Yurei!!” Mitsuya screamed, catching her as she collapsed. “Oh shit, that wasn’t (y/n)… I miscalculated,” the henchman muttered. “You did this because you thought it was me!?” I shouted.

He looked at me, eyes hollow. “The boss is obsessed with you. I hate him. He doesn’t deserve joy.” “You’re insane!” I tackled him, rage blinding me. My fists flew, each hit fueled by fury and heartbreak. Something in my hand cracked. I didn’t care. I would’ve killed him if Hakkai hadn’t pulled me off. “(y/n), stop! We need to help Yurei!” “Hakkai…” “I called an ambulance. We just need to keep her stable.”

“Leave us. Mitsuya and I are in street clothes. You’re in uniform—you’ll be questioned.” “Shit… Fine. I’m going.” Sirens wailed, causing Toman and Moebius to scatter. But I didn’t hear any of it. All I saw was Yurei, bleeding & fading right infront of my eyes. “Yurei…” “Mitsuya, why are you looking at me like that? Yakisoba’s cheap. I’ll share mine.” Mitsuya laughed through his tears. “I’ll buy you all the Yakisoba you want, love.”

“That sounds nice… but a nap sounds better.” “No, love. Stay awake. Just a few more minutes.” “Takashi, don’t cry. Smile for me, please.” “Takashi? You never call me that.” “I figured now was the best time.” “Stop it, Yurei. Help is close. You’ll be okay.” She turned to me, her voice barely a whisper. “I’m sorry I couldn’t help.” “You did. You won the day.” She shook her head as I said this. “That's not what I meant, you came back to save me… but I failed you.”

“No! You didn’t fail me! We still have so much to do. You and me, we’re gonna fix it all.” “Promise me you’ll keep fighting. Save us all please take care of Takashi for me.” Her eyes fluttered before her body went limp. “Yurei, no… please…” I collapsed beside Mitsuya, as he began to sob. “What do I tell Mana and Luna? They love you. I love you. You can’t leave me!”

The ambulance arrived and they took her away, leaving us in the silence of the rain.

Chapter 14: & Somehow, We Made it to August 4th

Chapter Text

Takemichi's P.O.V

The waiting room was drowned in silence, so thick it pressed on my chest. None of us dared to speak. All eyes were fixed on the neon lights above the double doors, waiting, pleading, for them to fall still. (Y/n) rested her head against Mikey’s shoulder, his presence the only anchor keeping her steady. Neither of them had shed a single tear since arriving, and that silence from them both carried more weight than any outburst ever could. It wasn’t strength... it was a kind of grief too sharp to bleed.

Mitsuya sat against the wall, knees pulled to his chest, face hidden away. The only proof he hadn’t completely drifted into despair was the death grip he kept on my sister’s hand. I understood too well, Yurei was behind those doors, fighting for her life alongside Draken. Across the room, Hina whispered gentle comforts into Emma’s ear, Emma trembling in her arms. The others sat scattered in silence, shadows of themselves. Words itched at the back of my throat, but nothing felt right. Nothing could.

The sharp tang of disinfectant seeped through the double doors, carrying with it the weight of our hope. All we could do was trust the hands of strangers, that a team of doctors from the 05’s could save our friends, and in doing so, maybe save the future we’d been fighting so desperately for. But if Draken and Yurei didn’t survive… I wasn’t sure what future was left to return to.

And then, at last, the lights above the doors blinked out.

Two doctors emerged, their expressions carrying the answer before they even spoke. “Good news,” one said, voice calm and steady. “We managed to save them both. You got them here just in time. Go home, rest, you’ll see them in the morning.” For a heartbeat, no one moved. Then Emma broke, tears streaming down her cheeks, and Hinata’s followed soon after. Relief rippled through the room, breaking open in cries, laughter, sobs.

“Alright, alright,” Mikey’s voice cut through, quiet but firm. It was the first time he’d spoken in hours, and though his smile was small, it was real. “Mikey’s right,” Mitsuya said, already standing, a new light in his eyes. “Let’s go share the news.” He was halfway down the hall before any of us had even risen, pulling us forward with his certainty. But at the exit, Peh stopped.

“You guys go on,” he murmured. “Nobody’s gonna want to see me. Not after what I did.” His guilt hung heavy, and Mitsuya paused, looking back. It was like in that moment, Mitsuya understood Peh, so he stepped to Peh’s side and rested a hand on his shoulder. “Peh… we all know why you did it. You wanted justice for Pah. That isn’t something to hate you for. If I can forgive you, they will too. It’ll be alright.”

Tears tugged at the corners of Peh’s eyes as he looked up. “You think so?” “I know so.” Mitsuya’s voice left no room for doubt. “Come on.” Peh nodded, and together we stepped outside into the night air. As both boys gave the members of Toman good news, I noticed that Emma and Hina followed us out. They commented about the time, making me realize that it was now August fourth. We had done it Naoto, we’d actually changed the past. In that moment, my knees gave out beneath me, as tears burned hot as they spilled freely. Against everything, we had made it here.

But when I lifted my head, I realized that Mikey and (Y/n) were gone. I knew they couldn't go unfound, so I searched until I found them near the hospital wall, arms entwined in a quiet embrace. I lingered in the shadows, unwilling to disturb them, leaning against a pillar as their voices drifted to me. Mikey’s words trembled, raw and unguarded. “I really thought I was going to lose him, sunshine. Sitting there, pretending I wasn’t breaking apart inside, it was killing me.”

(Y/n)’s reply was soft, her tone carrying its own ache. “I know. I felt the same about Yurei. She scared me… more than I can put into words.” Hearing them release what they had held back all night, watching Mikey finally give his grief a voice, was enough to steady something inside me. Maybe, just maybe, everything would be alright. And when we returned to the future, I prayed they would return to each other because that was where they belonged.

The Next Day

Your P.O.V

I lost track of how long I’d been waiting outside the hospital doors. The night had bled into morning, and by the time Mitsuya and his little sisters finally arrived, the sun had broken through the clouds, warming the pavement and drying the last traces of yesterday’s rain. “Good morning, (Y/n)!” “Sissy!” Mana and Luna bounded toward me with squeals of joy, their tiny arms wrapping around my waist in a fierce embrace. I knelt down, holding them both close.

“It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve seen you two little rugrats,” I teased, ruffling their hair. “Have you been good for Takashi?” “Uh-huh!” Luna nodded proudly, but Mana blurted out, “But Taka cried a lot last night, so Lulu and I had to comfort him!” “Takashi!” I snapped my gaze up to him. “What!?” He froze, caught in the crossfire. “I told you not to wait until you got home to cry! You know they hate seeing you like that.”

His shoulders slumped, guilt shadowing his expression. “I guess it all just… came crashing down at once.” I stepped closer, lowering my voice so Mana and Luna wouldn’t hear the edge of my worry. “I don’t care if you’re in the middle of a panic attack or sobbing until your chest hurts, you call me! You hear me? Carrying that weight alone isn’t good for you.” His lips pressed into a thin line, but he nodded. “Alright. I understand.”

“Good.” I softened before smiling. “Now, let’s go see Yurei.” As we walked in, I explained, “Oh, Michi, Mikey, and Emma went up earlier to see Draken." Which caused Mitsuya to respond back with an apology. "Sorry we’re late, Mana wouldn’t eat her cereal this morning.” I looked down to see Mana burying her face against my legs in shame. “Mana… did you give Takashi a hard time?”

Her muffled little voice came out in protest. “I didn’t mean to! But Taka tried to make me eat Fruit Loops! I don’t like those!” “Fruit Loops!?” I gasped in mock horror. “Takashi, you’re a menace.” Mana giggled. “Yeah, he is!” We laughed together, and I squeezed her tiny hand in mine. “Alright, rugrat, we’re going inside now, so you have to be quiet, okay?”

“Kk, sissy!” With Luna’s hand in Mitsuya’s and Mana’s in mine, we made our way into the elevator. Mitsuya leaned against the wall, staring at the glowing numbers. “You think Yurei’s awake?” “She is,” I reassured him. “Michi peeked in earlier for me.” “That was nice of him,” Mitsuya muttered. “Yeah. He’s been brighter since last night. Can’t blame him, his hard work finally paid off.”

The elevator chimed, and as the doors slid open, Mikey and Takemichi were waiting. “Hey, Sunshine,” Mikey greeted with that familiar lazy grin. “Mikey, you're heading out?” “Nope, just grabbing Kenny his favorite milk.” He winked before brushing past me, pressing a kiss to the top of my head. The gesture was casual, but warm and of course, earned immediate disgusted shrieks from Mana and Luna.

“Ewwww, sissy! Why did Mikey kiss you? That’s gross!” “Because he loves me very much,” I said simply, smirking. “As much as Taka loves Yurei?” Luna asked with big eyes. “Yeah. As much as Taka loves Yurei.” The awe in their faces made Mitsuya’s cheeks redden. Watching him, I couldn’t help the thought that always came: he was raising them so well. Their kindness, their stubbornness, it all mirrored him.

“You’re doing a good job with them, Takashi, at this rate, they’ll be as gentle and strong as you are.” He blinked at me, caught off guard by the sincerity, before a small, shy smile spread across his lips. “You think so? That’s the goal.” “I know so.” At this point, we had stopped at Yurei’s door. “Now remember,” I whispered, crouching down to their level, “she’s still sick. So be careful.”

“Ok, sissy!” “Kk, sissy!” The moment the door opened, Mana let go of my hand and darted straight for Yurei, clutching the flowers they’d picked together. “Lily’s and tulips? Mana, how did you know these were my favorite?” Yurei asked, her tired smile glowing all the same. “I can’t tell you it’s a secret!” Mana puffed her cheeks out. “Oh, for crying out loud, stop being secretive,” Luna huffed. “It’s from all of us! me, Taka, and Mana!”

Yurei’s eyes softened. “You three did such a good job. They’re beautiful.” Her gaze lingered on Mitsuya, who had quietly stepped closer. His shoulders trembled. “Takashi… what’s wrong?” He sank into the chair at her side, his composure unraveling. “Last night, when your eyes closed… when you went limp in my arms, I thought I’d lost you. My whole world came crashing down.”

Yurei’s hand reached for his. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.” “Please,” his voice broke, raw and desperate, “promise me you won’t ever give up again.” “I promise.” Relief washed over him as he leaned forward, guiding her head to his. Their kiss was tender, fleeting, until the inevitable groans of disgust erupted behind us. “Ewww! Taka and Yurei are kissing again!”
“Sissy, make them stop! That’s so yucky!”

I laughed under my breath. “It won’t be yucky when you’re older and find someone you love as much as Takashi loves Yurei.” “Uhm, I don’t think so,” Mitsuya suddenly cut in, voice sharp. I snapped my head toward him, startled. “My little sisters will not be kissing any delinquents or punks or anyone, ever. I’ll kill anyone who so much as looks at them.” His glare was deadly serious.

“Whoa, Takashi! Calm down. I was joking,” I said quickly, raising my hands. “Besides, by the time they bring someone home, you’ll already know everything about them.” “Exactly,” Yurei added with a nervous chuckle. “He’s their protector. Always will be.” Mitsuya exhaled slowly, pressing a kiss to Yurei’s temple. “I’m taking these two to grab drinks. I’ll be back.” “Don’t take too long,” Yurei whispered.

He squeezed her hand before leading Mana and Luna out of the room. Silence settled. Yurei’s gaze shifted to me. “So what now?” “What do you mean?” I asked. “You saved Draken… and me. Are you going back to the future?” I hesitated, swallowing the lump in my throat. “…In a little while. For now, I just want to enjoy my time here.” Her eyes glistened. “I’ll miss you when you leave.”

“I’ll miss you too. But for me… it’ll only be a few seconds. For you, it’s twelve years.” “That’s not fair,” she whispered. “No,” I agreed softly, taking her hand in mine. “But you’ll be fine. Because even if I’m gone, I’ll still be with you. Always.” She nodded, tears spilling despite her brave smile. “Pinkie promise?” “Pinkie promise.”

Our fingers intertwined, sealing the vow. And in that moment, I didn’t know what the future held. But one thing was certain it had to be better than the one we had left behind.

Present Time (August 2017)

Your P.O.V

Wait a week before going back he says...

It'll be for the best he says...

I swear to God when I get my hands on him in a few minutes he's toa...

"Y/N, darling? Are you alright?" The voice was soft, concerned, and oddly familiar. I blinked, trying to make sense of the world around me. My vision was hazy, my thoughts scattered like broken glass. The scent of roses and champagne lingered in the air, and the sound of laughter echoed from nearby.

As my senses returned, I realized I was seated at a decorated table in what looked like a lavish event hall. Streamers hung from the ceiling like vines, and balloons floated lazily above the crowd. The atmosphere was festive and joyful, but I felt completely out of place. A strange weight on my lap pulled my attention downward. There, nestled against me, was a baby no older than seven months. His tiny hands clutched the fabric of my dress, and his lavender hair shimmered under the soft lighting. He looked up at me with wide, curious eyes, and something inside me cracked.

Tears welled up before I could stop them. I lifted the child gently, cradling him against my chest. “You’re Takashi and Yurei’s little one... I just know it.” “He is,” came a voice from my left. “That’s Keita Mitsuya.” I turned sharply. Hanma Shuji stood beside me, dressed in a tailored suit, his expression laced with concern. “Y/N, love... you’re acting strange. Are you feeling alright?”

“Hanma?” I whispered the name slipping out before I could stop it. He frowned, leaning forward to press the back of his hand against my forehead. “You spaced out... and you called me by our last name.” Our last name? The realization hit me like a freight train. I was married to Hanma. Panic surged through me. I thrust Keita into Hanma’s arms and stumbled away from the table, pushing through the crowd and out into the night air.

Outside, I fumbled with my phone, fingers trembling as I searched for any sign, any clue about what had happened. Every headline mirrored the nightmare we had tried to escape. Kisaki and Y/N: Leaders of Toman. The same twisted future. The same mistakes. What happened? Where did we go wrong? I wasn’t going to find answers in a screen. I took a deep breath, wiped my eyes, and headed back inside.

Before I could reach my seat, I was intercepted by Mitsuya, Yurei, and Hanma. Mitsuya looked sharp in an all-white suit, his lavender hair pulled back neatly. Yurei stood beside him in a stunning wedding gown, her two-toned hair styled into an elegant bun. The pieces fell into place. I had returned twelve years into the future, right in the middle of Mitsuya and Yurei’s wedding.

I turned to Yurei and held out my pinky. “I kept my promise.” Her eyes widened. She looked between Mitsuya, Hanma, and me, then nodded slowly. “Alright, boys. This calls for a little Yurei magic. Ten minutes with our damsel in distress, and we’ll be back.” Mitsuya didn’t argue. He kissed her forehead and returned to the celebration. Hanma hesitated. Knowing he wasn't going to go without a show, I put on a face and turned to meet his gaze.

“Shuji,” I said softly, “I’ll be quick. Promise.” “If you’re longer than ten minutes, I’m coming back out.” “I know. You can whisk me away, no questions asked.” “Promise?” “Promise.” He kissed the top of my head and walked away. As soon as he was gone, Yurei broke down, tears streaming down her cheeks. “Yurei!? Are you alright?” “I’m just... so happy to have the real you back.” She pulled me into a tight embrace. “Everything got so messed up after you left.”

“I gathered. I’m married to Hanma Shuji. I don’t even want to know how that happened. How long has Mikey been gone?” Her face darkened. “Ten years.” Ten—? No. "What about Draken?” “He’s on death row. He killed a few guys for Kisaki and got caught.” “No... that means—” “Yeah.” “So nothing changed?” “Not true. You saved me. And that saved Mitsuya.” She was right. Draken was alive. Yurei was alive. She had a beautiful son and had just married the love of her life. I couldn’t take that away.

“You can head back. I’ll be in soon.” “You sure?” “It’s your wedding day.” She gave me a consoling look before nodding and returning inside. I wanted to scream, cry, break something—but I knew that wouldn’t help. I searched for any mention of Hinata Tachibana’s death. Nothing. She was alive too. Everyone got their happy ending... except me. I tucked my phone away, brushed myself off, and walked back into the venue. The room was alive with dancing and laughter. I was married to Hanma. Weird, but manageable. At least we didn’t have kids. Just the thought made me shiver.

As if he could read my mind, Hanma appeared behind me, placing a hand on my shoulder. “You feeling better?” “Yeah. Fresh air helped.” “Glad to hear it. Want to dance?” “Not really. My head’s still spinning.” “No worries. I’ll grab you a drink.” He kissed my head again before walking off. I nearly gagged. Then Kisaki approached, which added to my irriation.  “Well, Y/N? Feeling better? You had me worried. Haven’t seen you that frazzled since we were kids.”

I eyed him warily. “I’m fine. Just a lot on my mind. Nothing a few drinks can’t fix.” “I hope so. We don’t need any more accidents tonight.” Any more? What did he mean? Before he could elaborate, he disappeared as soon as Hanma returned with a glass of wine for both of us. “Is Kisaki acting odd to you?” “You’ll have to elaborate, hun.” Annoyed, I forwent any further analytical games and downed the wine in one go, slamming the glass down.

“Jesus, Y/N! You were supposed to sip it!” Hanma’s voice cut through the music and chatter like a blade. I blinked, confused, the glass still warm in my hand. The wine had gone down too fast, too sharp. My throat burned, and a bitter aftertaste clung to my tongue like poison. “Huh...?” I murmured, my voice barely audible over the thudding bass of the party. Then the world tilted.

The lights overhead blurred into streaks of gold and violet. The laughter around me warped, slowed, like a record spinning too slowly. My knees buckled slightly, and I reached out instinctively, grabbing the edge of the table to steady myself. “I don’t... feel so well...” I whispered, the words slurring as my vision tunneled. Hanma stepped forward, catching me before I could fall. His arms were steady, but his expression was unreadable—too calm, too rehearsed.

“I’m sorry, hun... but boss’s orders. I couldn’t let you stop me.” My heart stuttered. “What... do you...” The question died on my lips as my body gave out completely. I collapsed into him, my limbs heavy and unresponsive. The warmth of his chest was the last thing I felt before everything began to fade. My vision fractured into shards of light and shadow, and the sounds around me became distant echoes. Through the haze, I saw his face—soft, regretful. His lips moved, and I barely caught the words. “I really am sorry.”

Then the world went black.

Three Days Later

“I swear to god, Kisaki—if my wife doesn’t wake up soon, we’re going to have serious problems.” "Don’t be dramatic. It was just a paralytic poison. How was I supposed to know she’d have an adverse reaction?” “You’re walking a very fine line. So please, keep talking. Give me a reason to go ahead and end this conversation permanently.”

The voices echoed around me like thunder in a cave, each word sending a sharp pulse through my skull. My body felt like lead, every limb aching, my head throbbing with a dull, persistent pain. Consciousness was returning, but slowly, like crawling out of a deep, dark pit. I didn’t want to open my eyes. The pain was too much, and the light felt like it would split my skull in two. But I knew I had to try. If I had any hope of getting out of here, of finding my brother and Naoto, I had to push through.

I cracked my eyes open, only to be assaulted by a blinding glare from the overhead lights. I winced and shut them immediately, reaching out for something, anything, to shield myself. My hand landed on something warm and solid. Hanma’s hand. “Y/N,” he said gently, his voice softening as he leaned closer. “You still need rest. Don’t try to open your eyes right now.” Kisaki’s voice followed, more distant now, as if he were already halfway out the door.

“Do as Hanma says. When you’re well enough in a few days, I’ll explain everything. I promise I never intended to hurt you.” I waited until I was sure Kisaki had left the room. The air felt lighter without him in it, though the ache in my body remained. I summoned what little strength I had, forcing my dry throat to cooperate.

I don’t want to wait that long,” I rasped, my voice barely above a whisper. “Tell me why. Tell me now.”

Chapter Text

Your P.O.V

My eyes locked onto Hanma with a burning intensity, refusing to waver. I wasn’t going to back down—not until he gave me the truth. The weight of betrayal pressed against my chest like a vice. I was supposed to be second in command. So why had they shut me out of Toman’s plans like I was nothing more than a liability? My throat felt like sandpaper, raw from the poison they just so happily slipped into my drink. But I forced myself to speak, voice barely more than a whisper. “Shuji… please.”

Something in my tone must’ve pierced through his usual smug detachment. His expression shifted, and for the first time, he looked almost… guilty. “God, I truly have a hard time saying no to you, Sunshine.”

That nickname. It hit me like a slap. Hearing it from Hanma’s mouth felt wrong, violating, even. Mikey was the only one who ever called me that. It was sacred. Hearing it now made my skin crawl, but I swallowed the revulsion and clenched my fists, forcing myself to listen. “Kisaki didn’t want your moral compass to shine through at the last minute and ruin the original plan we had set in place,” he said, voice low and deliberate. “So we decided it was best to just not tell you at all and well… you know the rest.”

The words sliced through me like shards of glass. My stomach churned violently, bile rising in my throat. I wanted to scream, to hit something, to make him feel even a fraction of the betrayal that was tearing me apart. Drugging me, his own wife, like I was just another pawn in their twisted game. When had he become so close to Kisaki? When had I become so… disposable?

My mind raced, desperate for clarity, for escape. I needed Takemichi. I needed Naoto. I needed clarity for all of this madness. But just as fast as those two came to mind, a horrifying thought slithered right behind, cold and sharp. I turned to Hanma, dread as thick as it could get in my voice. “Shuji… you didn’t.” His eyes dropped, and he exhaled slowly. “I told you I really was sorry.”

That was it. The final blow. The future Takemichi and I had fought tooth and nail for, gone. Reduced to ashes before my eyes. Draken was on death row. Mikey had vanished into the shadows again. And Hinata… Hinata was dead. There was no happy ending. Not anymore. But as long as Takemichi, Naoto, and I were still breathing, there was a sliver of hope. A chance to rewrite the ending, even if it meant walking through hell to do it.

I needed to get the hell out of this place and into the hands of someone who could help, so I had to try and pull the hurt wife card, to see if that would even work. So I gritted my teeth and pushed through the pain, every muscle screaming in protest as I forced myself upright. My throat was dry, cracked, but I swallowed hard, gathering just enough moisture to speak.

“I need space to think. Call Yurei. I’m going to stay with her and Mitsuya for a while.” Hanma didn’t argue. He didn’t even flinch. He simply nodded, pulled out his phone, and dialed Yurei.

A Few Hours Later

After a few more hours of much needed rest and a soothing glass of honey infused tea, the fog in my mind began to lift. My limbs still felt heavy, but I was finally functioning again,  enough to sit upright and think clearly. While I slept, Yurei had taken the initiative and managed to bring Takemichi and Naoto over to her place. Apparently, my future self had continued the habit of keeping close tabs on my brother, a trait I was oddly grateful for now.

The atmosphere was tense at first. Takemichi and Naoto exchanged uncertain glances, and I could feel the weight of unspoken questions hanging in the air. But once I laid everything out, every twist, every revelation, the tension began to dissolve. The four of us sat together, shoulders hunched over the coffee table, hashing out a plan that could change everything. Naoto leaned forward, his voice steady but urgent. “As I said, while you were M.I.A. these past three days, Takemichi and I went to visit Draken in prison.”

I nodded, signaling him to continue. “I stayed quiet and listened while Takemichi spoke with him. Draken didn’t give us much, but he hinted that Kisaki was behind Manjiro’s downfall. He was cagey with the details, but I’m working on getting more. In the meantime…” He gestured toward Takemichi and me with a flick of his hand. “I’m sending the wonder twins back.” I raised an eyebrow at the nickname but didn’t protest. Before he could say more, I turned to Yurei, locking eyes with her.

“While I’m gone,” I said, my voice low and serious, “I need you to keep Hanma away from me. Pose as me through text if you have to. He cannot see me. Not now. Not at all.” Yurei’s expression hardened with resolve. “Heard. Trust me, Takashi is still furious about what happened at the wedding. You being drugged like that? He hasn’t let it go. I’ve got you covered.” I smiled, the tension in my chest easing slightly. I leaned forward and wrapped my arms around her, grateful for her unwavering support.

“I’ll be back soon,” I whispered. “And hopefully this time, I’ll actually fix everything.” “I’m counting on it,” she replied, her voice warm. “You and Mikey still owe Takashi and me a double date night.” “How could I forget?” I chuckled, pulling her into one last hug before moving to sit beside Takemichi. “Alright, team,” I said, glancing between Takemichi and Naoto. “Looks like we’re back in the game. Time to dial in.”

Takemichi’s eyes lit up with determination. “I agree. This future… it’s not one I can accept.” Naoto nodded, his tone filled with determination. “I was hoping you’d say that. (Y/N), Takemichi, let’s build a future we can be proud of.” “Yeah,” I said, the fire in my chest reigniting. “I like the sound of that.”

That day marked a turning point. We realized that even if the future had offered a few glimmers of hope, it wasn’t enough. We didn’t want a merely tolerable future, we wanted one that was truly good. One where the ghosts of the past could finally rest. The next future we created would be the best one yet. It had to be.

Chapter 17: It's Kisaki Tetta...

Chapter Text

Twelve Years Ago (October 2005)

Your P.O.V

“Mikey, Draken, and Takemitchy are taking forever,” Yurei groaned, arms crossed and foot tapping impatiently. “You can say that again,” Smiley muttered, his voice laced with irritation.

“I say we give them fifteen more minutes,” Mitsuya chimed in, glancing at the bathhouse entrance. “Then we send (Y/n) in to humiliate them into moving. She’s good at that.”
Yasuhiro chuckled. “Yeah, she’s the only one who can wrangle those idiots. Right, (Y/n)?”

As my senses slowly returned, the world around me sharpened into focus. The scent of steam and cedar filled the air, and the soft hum of the bathhouse in East Shibuya buzzed in the background. I blinked, grounding myself in the present. “Oi? Earth to Mrs. Space Cadet, are you okay?” Yurei’s voice cut through the haze. I turned to see her beside me, concern etched into her features. Smiley, Mitsuya, and Yasuhiro stood nearby, their expressions a mix of boredom and mild annoyance.

“Okay? Yes. Annoyed? Absolutely,” I snapped, stretching my arms overhead. “We’ve got things to do, and those three are making it impossible.” I stood, brushing off my pants with a dramatic sigh. “Don’t worry. I’m going in now. And when you hear a chorus of boys shrieking like toddlers, you’ll know I’ve done my job.” As I climbed the stairs to the bathhouse, a scowl tugged at my lips. Why did younger me always end up in these ridiculous situations? A bathhouse? Really? I didn’t even remember this place. And why was all of Toman waiting on those three?

And please, if I had to see Mikey again, let it not be naked. Well… maybe not now, anyway. Luckily, by the time I reached the top, the trio was already emerging. Mikey had a fresh lump on his nose, and Draken sported a scratch on his cheek. Clearly, they’d been roughhousing again. “You two need to pick better times to fight,” I said, arms crossed. “Preferably not while you’re naked and soaking.”

“Oh come on, Sunshine!” Mikey grinned. “Don’t be like that!” “I wouldn’t be like that if you two stopped being idiots.” I smacked both of them upside the head and let them walk ahead, turning to Takemichi. “A bathhouse, huh?” “Apparently. What the hell is up with younger us?” “To be honest, I have no freaking idea.” “Where are we going, (Y/n)?” “Beats me.” Just then, Mikey and Draken turned around.

“Hanagaki twins, let’s get moving!” “Where are we going, Draken?” Draken gave Takemichi a strange look, then sighed. “(Y/n) didn’t tell you?” “No.” Before Draken could explain, Mikey cut in. “Ehh, that’s okay. Sunshine forgets things sometimes. We’re going to welcome the new third division captain.” My stomach dropped. “Mikey, why are we welcoming a new captain? I thought Peh was in charge of the third division?” “What makes you say that? You, me, and Draken agreed on this days ago. Are you feeling alright?” He pressed his hand to my forehead. I laughed it off, gently removing his hand.

“Of course I remember. I was just teasing.” “Jeez, you really are something else.” Mikey smiled and hopped onto his bike. I climbed on behind him, gripping his jacket as we sped toward Musashi Temple. But my thoughts were spiraling. One name haunted me: Kisaki. The idea that he might be the new captain made my stomach churn. I wanted it to be Takemichi. I needed it to be Takemichi. But that gnawing feeling in my gut told me otherwise.

As we neared the shrine, my heart pounded harder. I couldn’t breathe. Not now. Not after everything I’d endured. “Sunshine, are you okay? You’re shaking.” “Huh?” I blinked, realizing we’d arrived. Mikey shrugged off his coat and draped it over my shoulders. “If you were cold, you should’ve said something, dummy.” “Yeah… I’m sorry.” He kissed the top of my head and walked off with Draken. “Come on, Sunshine. We can’t start without you.”

“I’ll be there in a second.” As I climbed off the bike, Yurei approached. “Give me a signal next time you’re back. I hate second-guessing.” “Sorry. I’ll come up with something.” “Thanks. So… the future was bad again?” “Bad? I married Hanma.” “Wait! Valhalla Hanma? Shuji freaking psychopathic Hanma?!” “Yes, Yurei! Jeez, you really hate him.” “I don’t even know how to feel…” She was cut off as Mitsuya wrapped an arm around her waist.

“Ladies, we should head up. The commander’s waiting.” “Yeah, yeah, we’re going.” I walked ahead, muttering, “This should be interesting.” At the top, the crowd had gathered. It was hard to tell who was who in the dim light. Draken stepped forward. “As you all know, we’re here tonight for one reason; to welcome our new third division captain!” “Step forward!” Everyone looked around, confused. I saw Takemichi’s eyes widen. For a moment, I hoped. But then, like a nightmare made real, Kisaki Tetta stepped forward.

The man who had ruined my life for ten years. Takemichi began to tremble. I couldn’t move. My body froze, just like it always did when I needed it most. Kisaki sat beside me, smug and composed. I didn’t hear the ceremony. I was too busy trying to force my body to respond. He was right there. I could end this. I could stop him. But before I could act, Takemichi did.
“Shit, we’re really doing this!?”

I lunged, punching Kisaki square in the jaw. But Draken grabbed me before I could strike again. “Oi! What the hell, Hanagaki twins!? Are you trying to ruin the ceremony!?” “No, I just—” “You’re not even part of Toman, Takemitchy!” “Piss off! I punched Kisaki too! Take it out on me!” “What’s going on!?” Mikey shouted. “Are you spitting in Mikey’s face!?” Draken demanded.
The division captains closed in. Then Baji appeared.

“Hey, I want in too.” He was beside us one moment, then pummeling Takemichi the next. “BAJI! LAY OFF HIM!” Draken held me back, but Mitsuya intervened. “What the hell are you doing here, Baji?” “What, I can’t come? Rude.” “You know you’re banned from these meetings!” Mikey finally spoke. “What are you gonna do, fire me?” Baji urged.  “No.” “Fine. Then consider this my resignation. Your first division captain is joining Valhalla.”

Silence. Then chaos. Before I could process Baji’s departure, Kisaki knocked Takemichi out cold. “Kisaki! You bastard!” “(Y/n), you will not attack Kisaki again.” “The hell I won’t!”
I sucker-punched Draken, breaking free. I lunged at Kisaki, fist flying. But Mikey intercepted me, jabbing my neck. Everything blurred. The last thing I saw was Mikey’s arms reaching out to catch me as I collapsed.

Chapter 18: Do Me A Favor... Yeah?

Chapter Text

Takemichi's P.O.V

What happened? Why am I on the floor?

As my vision returned, my senses followed, and a sharp pain traveled up the right of my face.

Shit, that's right, Kisaki knocked my lights out, talk about an epic failure.

Despite the throbbing pain, I forced myself upright, fingers pressing against the bridge of my nose. “You and (y/n)... you don’t like Kisaki much, do you?” The sudden voice to my left made me flinch. Mikey had appeared, his presence quiet but commanding. (y/n) lay in his lap, seemingly asleep until I looked closer. No, she wasn’t resting. She’d been knocked out. My stomach twisted.

“Damn it, Mikey. You scared the hell out of me.” I shook my head, exhaling slowly. Dislike? That was putting it mildly. Kisaki wasn’t just a nuisance he was a curse. But how could I explain that to this version of Mikey? He didn’t know Kisaki was the reason Draken was on death row, or why Hina was gone. Or the weight (y/n) had been carrying ever since. “I get it,” Mikey said, his voice softer now. “But I didn’t bring him in on a whim. You trust me, right?”

I met his gaze and nodded. “Yeah. Honestly, I don’t even know why I attacked him. My head wasn’t in the right place.” Mikey gave a faint smile. “You and (y/n)... not so different after all.”

I glanced down at her, then back at him, curiosity tugging at me. “She wanted to kill him,” Mikey said bluntly. “After she saw him take you down, she snapped. I saw it in her eyes, pure intent. Kenny and I had to stop her.” “That why she’s unconscious?”

He nodded, eyes drifting toward the sky. “But enough about Sunshine. Takemitchy, I need a favor.” I nodded again, sensing the shift in his tone. “There’s someone I care about, a childhood friend. We grew up next door. He used to pick fights with me all the time.” “Seriously? With you? Was he suicidal?” “Not exactly. He just wanted to prove he could beat me. He’s the one who wrecked you, actually.” “Which time? I’ve been wrecked more than once tonight you know.”

“Baji Keisuke.” “Oh. Him.” “I want you to bring him back before the fight with Valhalla. Can you do that?” “I can... but I want something in return.” “Name it.” “Kick Kisaki out of Toman. He’s dangerous. I can’t explain everything, but he’s the real enemy.” “I know,” Mikey said, surprising me. “But he’s strong. We need that strength against Valhalla.” “But—” “I’ll make it simple. Bring Baji back, and Kisaki’s gone. Fail... and I’ll kill you.”

His face hardened, and I felt the chill run down my spine. I wasn’t sure if he was joking and I didn’t want to find out. Then, like flipping a switch, Mikey turned toward the trees. “Mitsuya, Yurei, how long are you two gonna hide? I can see Mitsuya’s lilac hair and Yurei’s two-tone from here.” From behind the shrine, the two stepped out sheepishly. “You caught us,” Mitsuya said. “We were scouting for a make out spot.”

“Seriously? Can you two control yourselves?” “We could... but where’s the fun in that?” Mikey chuckled. “Since you’re so eager to be involved, starting today, you’re taking Takemitchy under your wing. He’s joining the second division.” “Huh!?” I blinked, stunned. Mikey smiled. “Welcome to Toman, Takemitchy.” “Really!?” I turned to Mitsuya, grinning like an idiot. “Thanks for having me, sir!”

“Oh man,” Mitsuya laughed. “This is what I get for eavesdropping.” We all laughed together, the tension finally breaking as we descended the temple steps. I should’ve known I wasn’t officially part of Toman until now. If Naoto saw this, he’d call me a fool. But hey! At least now, I had one foot in the door.

Several Hours Later

A soft hum stirred me from the slumber that had overtaken me. As my vision slowly returned, a gentle light peeked through the blinds across from me.

Blinds?

Sitting upright in sudden realization, I noticed my surroundings had changed from Musashi Shrine to the familiar confines of Mikey's bedroom. It was a setting deeply etched into my memory. With a sigh, I prepared to stand, only to feel a slight tug on my sleeve. Turning to my left, I saw Mikey groggily opening one eye as he mumbled, "Sunshine, it's late. Come back to bed." Shaking my head, I gently took his hand and placed it back beside him on the bed.

"I can't, I need some air." Without giving him a chance to respond, I quietly slipped out of the room, savoring the cool night air as it filled my lungs. It almost escaped me that Mikey had moved into Shinichiro's room years ago. "Don't punish him, (y/n)." Startled by the voice to my left, I turned to see Draken taking a casual sip of his drink. "What are you doing out here, Kenny?" I demanded.

"Getting some air," he replied nonchalantly. "How convenient," I retorted, rolling my eyes as I sank to the floor, pulling my knees to my chest. "I'm still angry at both of you." "Why? Because we stopped infighting? You're such a hypocrite sometimes, (y/n)." Ignoring his sarcasm, I rested my head on my knees and glanced at him. "Why did you both stop me? Don't you realize how dangerous Kissaki is?"

"I do, and so does Mikey. But in this battle against Valhalla, we need him. You trust us, don't you?" "With my life." "Then trust us this time. It's safer to follow the plan, okay?" Nodding reluctantly, I turned my gaze back to the quiet night. "Don't stay out here too long, all right? You know how grumpy he gets without his sunshine," Draken added with a small grin. "Yeah, yeah. I'll head back soon."

Draken ruffled my hair affectionately before retreating to Mikey's room, leaving me alone with my thoughts. The stillness of the night settled around me once more as I contemplated why the hell I couldn't remember why we decided to let Kisaki join in the first place.
