94 tales

Summary:

Writing 100 words for every episode of Dr. Stone! Get excited!!

Notes:

I've been going through a block while writing lately and this is my solution. Setting a constraint can really help creativity!! I'll try different formats as well, like poems or letters.

Each piece is inspired by or is set in an episode of Dr. Stone. I really love this show!

None of this is pre-written. I'm gonna post as I write! You can expect updates on Fridays (and Tuesdays, if I have time).

I recommend using the "Entire Work" button. All the chapters are really short, so it would be a better experience.

Enjoy! :D

Chapter 1: Stone World

Chapter Text

While waiting for Taiju to return with firewood, Senku hammered a peg into the ground and Yuzuriha propped up the tent. As with all the good ideas their motley group picked up, this was Byakuya's.

Easily combining Senku's desire to try new things, Yuzuriha's creative block, and Taiju missing his friends, he'd suggested camping.

"Check it out, guys!! It's the mushroom from Mario!"

"That's Amanita Muscaria," Senku recognized. It really did look like it was from Mario.

"It looks poisonous..." Yuzuriha observed, taking it.

Taiju grinned, grabbing a bag of chips. "Good thing we don't have to worry about foraging!"

Chapter 2: King of the Stone World

Chapter Text

Yuzuriha, Ukyo, and Yo paused the massive jigsaw puzzle to look up at the rattling sound.

Taiju greeted them, depisiting a bag full of stone at Yuzuriha's side. "That's the last of it!"

Ukyo leaned over, peering at its contents. "These were found by the waterfall, yeah?"

"Yeah!"

"But… what about the man on the beach? I haven't seen his pieces among these."

"There was a man on the beach?"

"Tsukasa didn't mention a statue?" Yo made a face. "It's not like him to forget."

Smoked fish.

Crushed seashells.

Narrowed eyes.

"I think I know why he didn't," Taiju said.

Chapter 3: Weapons of Science

Notes:

Keep the work skin on for this chapter, please!!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Senku collapsed onto his bed, limbs aching. He blamed Taiju and Yuzuriha for taking the scenic route. They'd gotten so lost in Kamakura that he'd basically memorized the coordinates of all the places they'd gone to. It was so stupid.

Senku broke into a grin as he drafted an email.

Yo, old man.
Here are the pictures you asked for.

Notes:

I made this work skin from scratch!! It was a pain, I loved it!! :D
Credits to Acres of Film, vitalina, and Anton Cherednichenko (respectively) on Pexels for the amazing pictures. I drew the characters onto the second one.
Might update this later with a few more interactive elements and properly rendering the drawing and finishing its line art.

(psst... have you tried clicking the arrow?)

Chapter 4: Fire the Smoke Signal

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The knowledge rests forever in that skull.

(It's farewell to the world that held him back.)

He drew his spear to kill and not to cull.

(It's farewell to the only friend he had.)

A shaken mind, a tempered will, she tossed

the gunpowder from hands meant to protect.

She couldn't still and bear to watch a loss

forlornly holding murder to her neck.

This firewood's not meant to burn a corpse.

Instinct knows far more than he could know.

Pained appeals until his throat grew hoarse.

Crushing wood and stone, he leaps and ploughs.

But it won't be enough.

Notes:

Written for July Break Bingo! The prompt was "Writing Format: Sonnet"
(although I doubt this is a sonnet, I did away with the couplet entirely because of the word count limitation LOL)

Chapter 5: Stone World The Beginning

Chapter Text

"Thanks for watching over Mirai, you three."

Mirai had no issue waiting at home alone. But this time, Tsukasa was going to be away for a weekend, so he left her in the care of the only people he trusted.

"We'll do our best!" Taiju said, the smiles of the others almost devious.

The house was… different.

Tsukasa stumbled in, expecting—well, definitely not this.

Tapestries decorated every wall and pottery every table. Stacks of board games claimed the floor and touched the ceiling. He found a test tube rack in the kitchen… he didn't want to open the cabinets.

Chapter 6: Two Nations of the Stone World

Notes:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KOHAKU!!
(I update this weekly and I got to post this chapter inspired by the episode she's introduced in on her birthday!! WooOOO!!)

Chapter Text

With her free hand, Kohaku dug into the hard dirt with her knives, trying to find a way out from under the tree. This was going to take a long time, but if anyone was accustomed to work, it was her.

Her eyes flicked around her surroundings, until she looked up at the… sorcerer?!

Out of breath and expression haunted, he was asking her something, but she didn't know what to say. Kohaku watched him die with her own eyes.

Without hesitation, he immediately got to work on getting her out, and that… The patience, the resilience… that was familiar.

Chapter 7: Where Two Million Years Have Gone

Chapter Text

"They grow up so quickly," Jasper mused, supervising a fighting lesson taught by Tetsuken to the kids.

"When we were young, there wasn't a rule you didn't break," Turquoise said. "Look at you now. You don't get to talk about growing up quickly."

"Maybe not, but these children, I see a future in them."

"Yeah?"

"They're… so innovative. The kid with the fuzzy-eye disease… Suika, they call her, she cut holes into a melon and they help her see somehow. And Chrome is… something else. They're all miniature Kaseki."

Turquoise sighed. "Where would we be if not for that man?"

Chapter 8: Stone Road

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

"Please let Suika through!!"

Suika knew Chalk was more than capable of finding his way home, but she couldn't help but worry.

"Ginro, take over. I'll go with you, Suika."

Suika and Kinro moved quietly through the forest that night, looking for Suika's lost pet, when they heard a pleasant tune. And then, singing. And then, barking.

"Chalk!!" Suika exclaimed, running to a group of villagers playing music.

"It's a musical rendition of Momotaro," Kinro observed, unsure if the rendezvous was against the rules.

"That's so cool!!" Suika told Unmo. "Could you teach Suika to play the cowrie shell sometime?"

Notes:

i like to imagine that kinro has a soft spot for suika ^^
