Chapter Text
The door shut softly before them and the lock clicked in with a quiet finality. Suddenly the room was bathed in shadows – only a thin sliver of light came from the crack beneath the door.
Exer leaned back against the wall with a sigh, and crossed his arms, his eyes fixed steadily on David, or at least as much as he could see of David. David met his gaze, his face a bright red – even Exer could see it through the shadows.
What had started out as a simple game of truth or dare quickly spiraled into something far more revealing. When the cards made their way around their friend circle and landed on Exer, his fingers made their way to the dare cards. The card twisted in his hand as he flipped it over and read it, the words in an elegant cursive, undeniably Brenda’s doing. Exer’s face dropped as he read the challenge,
“Spend seven minutes in heaven with someone of your choice.” Exer spoke.
Exer pressed his lips together and then his eyes fell on David, who was sitting to his left. Who else?
David leaned back slightly as everyone’s attention turned to him. His expression flickered with confusion, his pink lips parting just ever so slightly to show a glimpse of his teeth.
The group had burst into snickers and laughs, of course all from support. Ken even let out a long and exaggerated “Ooooooh!” The group all knew that Exer and David were dating, it was no secret, but they were never the most open about their relationship, at least as they weren't as open as the others would like for them to be. David got the hint instantly, slightly smiling a little bit and Exer stood without a word. David followed, stunned into silence, his face still redder than a fire alarm.
Now here they are.
In the closet.
Ironic, right?
David spoke up in the silence, “Can you stop looking at me like that?” Exer snickered, but David kept his serious, nervous expression.
“Like what?” Exer says innocently.
“Like-” he stammers and then raises a hand, motioning to his whole composure. Exer looks like he could eat David alive if he let him. “Like you are about to smother me!” He exclaims.
“That's because I am.” Exer pushes himself off of the wall, and steps closer. Something about Exer makes David instantly draw to him like a magnet, and he just can't be away for too long.
The two step closer to each other, meeting in the middle. Exer’s hand lifts up and rests on David’s jaw lightly, it's barely even a touch. David’s breath hitches. He doesn’t pull away, but his whole body tenses. Even the smallest of touches send electricity through his body. David and Exer have dated for a while, but something about this is different. Their personal bubbles are being invaded, and they know the others are outside, probably listening in or something, giggling mischievously. But they don’t care. It’s just them, in a small enclosed room with barely any light, and two can see each other clear as day.
“You ok?” Exer whispers, tenderness and care lacing his voice.
David swallows hard, and his eyes flick down to see their bodies pressed together, and their legs practically intertwined. Exer follows his gaze. David’s eyes meet Exer’s again, glassy and wide. “Not even a little bit.” He says hoarsely.
“Tell me to back up, then.” David can feel Exer’s breath on his skin, just inches away. Their mouths aching for each other.
David doesn’t move, his voice just above a whisper. “I don’t think I want to.” That's all Exer needs to close the gap, pulling David down into his lips. Instinctively, David’s arms wind around Exer’s fully clothed arms, holding him close. Exer’s other hand slides to rest gently on David’s waist, grounding them both in the moment.
Exer’s lips move against David’s with a growing urgency, they only have about 6 minutes left because they spent the first precious minute flirting . The kiss was slow and tender at first, then it grew to be more desperate – like the two are trying to memorize every moment with each other. David melts into the kiss, his breath hitching as he presses closer, fingers tightening their grip on Exer’s arms. Every second, every taste, every thought feels charged.
Exer’s hand on David’s waist slides to the dip of his back, pulling him impossibly closer. David’s heart pounds inhumanely hard in his ears. The desperation grows, and grows until Exer pushes David backwards onto the wall, causing a loud thud to come from the wall and causing David to grunt, opening his mouth slightly and granting Exer access to his mouth. The two are sure the others can hear it, but they both are too hungry to care. David’s hands pull back, closer to his own body and slide into his soft brown hair, and lacing his fingers in his coils. David tugs gently on his hair, and when Exer responds with a meek groan, David feels his whole body melt into the wall… no seriously he’s melting- its gotten hot.
Exer’s hand on David’s waist works itself to the hem of David’s Shirt, and Exer’s hand slides under it. Exer breaks the kiss momentarily and eyes the shirt, then back to David, eyes wide and trusting “This ok?” Exer asks softly, voice low, but serious.
David doesn’t hesitate and nods “ Please .” he breaths.
Exer smiles and lifts David’s shirt up, quickly but cautiously. David’s hands fall naturally to his sides, vulnerability mingling with trust as he reveals himself. Exer’s mouth twists upward, his eyes scanning David’s body, memorizing every curve, every detail. Slowly, Exer’s hands slide to peel off his own shirt, keeping the quiet intimacy between them. Quickly with one swift motion, Exer’s shirt is on the floor, revealing the sculpted lines of Exer’s fit body. David can't help but stare, breath catching at the sight of him. The two pull each other close, but don’t kiss. They just stare at each other as their hands, slow, tender hands glide along each other’s bodies.
David’s hands graze across Exer’s muscles, the two move their heads to look at Exer’s shoulder. David watches his hand with hearts in his eyes, and he can’t tear them away as they tenderly trace down his bicep. Exer snickered, glancing back at him and clearly reading the affection in David’s gaze. Exer’s hands slid their way from David’s back to David’s hips. He huffs when he looks down to see Exer holding him by the waist, not surprised. When he looked back up, Exer was already staring at him.
“How much time do we have left?” David whispers.
“ Who cares ?” Exer shakes his head. The two close their eyes meet back in the middle again, they both inhale in sync as their lips collide with each other, melting deeper and deeper. Their bare chests collide with each other. Both of David’s hands wrap around Exer’s biceps again, and rest there, his fingers melting into Exer’s skin.
Exer holds David's waist tightly, and full of tenderness. The kiss deepens, not out of lust, but from the desperate need to be close to each other.
Exer strayed from David’s lips, his breath brushing across David’s cheek as he dipped lower, planting slow, delicate kisses along David’s neck and collarbone. Each one was softer than the last – reverent, like he was learning him by touch alone.
David’s eyes fluttered open for a second, a soft gasp catching in his throat as he glanced down to see where Exer was going – but they quickly fell closed again. He didn’t need to see. He could feel everything. A sigh slipped from his lips, involuntary and raw, as Exer’s kisses lingered just beneath his jaw. A shiver trailed down David’s spine, every nerve in his body awake, alive.
Exer’s hands moved slowly along David’s back, tracing up and down with featherlight touches that made his whole body ache in the best way. It wasn’t just physical. It was something deeper. Something he couldn’t explain. His heart pounded like Exer was the only thing grounding himself in place.
He likes it so much. No.
He loves it.
He craves the way Exer holds him like he’s precious. And now, in the quiet dark of that little closet, the way Exer touches him, holds him, kisses him – he never wants this moment to end.
Exer’s lips lift from his skin for a brief moment, and then part just enough to suck gently on a patch of skin on David’s collar bone. The sensation is slow, and careful - not rushed. David’s eyes shut tight as he bites down on his lower lip, restraining himself from making any noises. Exer feels a hand trail up into his hair and give his head a gentle tug, not out of force but connection, like he needs Exer closer, as close as physically possible. David can’t tell now where he ends and Exer begins, and that's the way he likes it.
Exer exhales everything left in his lungs, warm air blanketing David’s upper body, making him shiver from the warmth colliding with the cold sweat on his skin. He moves slightly lower, to the middle of David’s chest, peppering his sternum with kisses. In the shared silence, a sudden unexpected sound escapes past his lips, that very sound he had been holding back since Exer had strayed from his mouth.
It wasn’t quite a gasp,
But not quite a moan,
Whatever it was, it makes Exer pause, and slowly pull back, blinking away laughter.
David’s eyes fly open in horror, realizing he had just made that sound, and he turns a deep, deep red. “Oh- oh my god” he groans, covering his face with a hand, “I did not just make that sound.”
There's a beat of silence, then Exer snorts, then immediately bursts into laughter. David tries to stay mortified but smiles behind his hand. “Hey!- Don’t laugh, that was embarrassing!”
Exer is howling now , resting his head on David’s shoulder lovingly, shaking with laughter. “What was that?!” He manages through wheezes. He lifts up, wiping a tear from his eye, but still laughing.
David can’t contain his laughter either though and soon begins to chuckle along with Exer.
“I’m sorry- did I make you do that?!” He raises his brows and leans back in closer to David. David rolls his eyes but he can’t stray away from Exer’s gaze for too long, and returns back.
“No babe, it was the wall.” He sighs. Exer breaks out into laughter again. David hides his face in Exer’s chest, smelling his cologne that he smells every time he sees him, it's almost gotten to the point where he’s gotten used to it. “This is never leaving the closet, Exer, you hear me?” He says quietly, but sternly.
Exer twists his head down and presses a kiss atop his head. “Deal.”
Then, as Exer shifted closer, his hand trailed down David’s waist accidentally, and grazed just above the waistband of David’s pants. The accidental brush made the two freeze, looking wide eyed at each other, their chests rose sharply with surprise.
Exer’s smirk deepened. “Oops.” he said. His voice is low and teasing.
David arches an eyebrow, his cheeks still pink from laughing, but his gaze sharpens. “Oops?” he echoes.
Exer looks down at David’s body, the waistband of his boxers just barely peeking through his tight jeans, which were being held up by a belt. The thought of where they are right now, and what just happened washes over the two. Seven, six, five, four… one minute. Their heads echoed.
Then, without warning, David grips Exer by the back of his neck and pulls him in. Their mouths crash together again – hot and messy. Teeth grazing and breath mingling.
Exer grunts into the kiss, gripping David’s hips, occasionally his hands brushing across his waistband again. Exer pushes David back onto the wall with a little more force than before. David doesn’t resist, his hands slide up Exer’s back, scraping his fingernails across it, pressing their bodies together.
Their laughter is gone, there's only tension, desire, hunger.
Exer grinds his hips against David's, causing the two to break from the kiss and share a collective sigh from the friction. As soon as they part they connect once more, giving a big “FU” to personal space. Neither of them want to stop, they don’t want to go back out, they want to stay in here, stay like this, wanting each other.
However, all good things come to an end, and the door begins to open followed by Brenda’s voice. “Alright lovebugs! Time’s up-” She starts, the two’s eyes widen as the door creaks open. Exer puts his arm against the wall to keep himself upright and turns his head away, his eyes flashing a green. The door glows green and the door abruptly slams shut. Brenda yelps in response, and pounds at the door.
David was frozen against the wall, chest rising and falling, lips slightly parted. He hadn’t even blinked. His pulse was roaring in his ears. David eyed the back of Exer’s head, then Exer’s bicep that was placed firmly next to his face. David lauded at the sight. Then came again from outside:
“Exer! Did you just slam the door on me with your freaky wizard powers?!” Brenda shouted.
David lets out a stunned breath, a laugh somewhere in it. “She’s gonna kill you.” he murmurs. Exer turned back to him slowly, something hungry lingered in his eyes as well as the green color of his magic.
“Worth it.” Exer breathed as he leaned back in and planted a kiss on David’s lower lip. Deliberate and calm, full of something left unresolved. As soon as David could reciprocate, Exer leaned back, and lifted himself off of the wall. David leaned forward instinctively, chasing the warmth, his lips parted and eyes half-lidded – still hungry for more.
Another pound came from the door, “EXER! Stop SNOGGING my brother!!!” Pure. Rage.
But neither responded. Exer bent down, gathering their shirts. He glanced up at David with a warm, lingering smile before gently tossing his shirt to him. David caught it easily, his eyes never leaving Exer’s. They never spoke. They stood there for a moment, quietly pulling their shirts back on – eyes locked, movements slow, breaths uneven. Somehow, even though a few feet apart they still felt like they were as close as they were a moment ago, like they were still touching.
When they redressed, they stepped closer to each other, staring deep into their eyes. Something had shifted between them. They couldn’t name it, but they could feel it – undeniable, quiet, powerful. Exer reached out for David’s hands, and David placed them like puzzle pieces fitting together. Their heads rested together, breathing mingling. They didn’t need words.
Whatever had changed – it felt right . So, so, right.
Then came again. “Exer!!! I am LITERALLY going to break this door down!!!!” She pounded again. And then, like nothing happened, the other closet door opened, Exer holding the door knob. The two stepped out, glowing and calm, as if they weren’t exploring each other's bodies two seconds ago.
“Brenda, chill!” Exer said breezily, pushing open the door. “We’re here!”
Brenda opened her mouth to protest until she saw her brother. David was blushing quite a bit, trying to play it cool. Brenda spotted something on David’s neck, peaking out of the collar of his shirt, that wasn’t there before they went in. She snapped her mouth shut… then opened… then shut again
“Go on…” Exer teases.
Brenda, not one to take sass lightly, snaps back, “I see Exer’s left his mark… literally.” Exer’s brows furrow, and he turns to see David’s face flushing pink once more. The two exchange a brief, loaded look before Exer’s eyes flick down to David’s neck. Clearing her throat with a sly grin, Brenda adds, “I’m gonna make some popcorn for the group… I’m sure they’d love to hear about your extra five minutes – four of which I generously gave you – in that closet together!” With that, she strides away, gleeful and unapologetic.
David shoots Exer a half-smile, still embarrassed, but amused. Exer takes David’s hand and squeezes it, running a thumb over the top of his hand. “Worth it.” Exer says softly, a small smile tugging at his lips. David returns the smile, and their fingers intertwine before they step out of the hallway and into the living room, ready to be berated with questions.
Exer and David walked across the room, their hands still intertwined, full of all of their friends, lounging, chatting, snacking, but the moment they entered the air shifted. Their friend’s eyes followed them as they reached an empty spot on the couch and sat next to each other, quiet and close. Around them, their friends exchanged glances – first with each other, then back at the two boys – then again with each other.
“So we’re all thinking about it, right?” Ken’s voice rang through the silent air, all attention shifted toward him. “What? Are we not gonna talk about it?” David’s face twinged, he knew that they wouldn’t ignore it. David’s face turned pink as he adjusted his shirt collar, trying to hide the bruise. Exer glanced over at him while the others yelled at Ken for making it awkward. Exer squeezes David’s hand, gaining his attention, his big blue eyes found Exer’s soft, steady gaze.
“ Ahhem. ” Ron’s voice cut through the laughter. Everyone else turned to Ron “Did David and Exer enjoy their seven minutes of heaven?”
David’s face turned a deeper shade of red and he avoided everyone’s gaze by looking down. “I mean—it was—”
Exer jumped in with a shrug, trying to deflect. “Heavenly.” The group rolls their eyes and groans at the sudden cheesiness. David looks up at Exer with wide eyes, typically he's not as open about their relationship and claps back with “Nun-ya.” but now – now he seems to want to shout his love for David from the rooftops.
Ken leans forward and squints, as David craned his neck to look at Exer, he made visible the bruise on the side David’s neck. “Wait – David, is that a bruise on your neck?” Ken snickers.
David grabs his neck and sinks farther into the couch, face crumbling with embarrassment. Exer just raises his brows innocently and chimes with a smirk, “Souvenir” David covers his face, groaning into his hand. A few friends snicker but Exer’s face softens, lifting David’s hand to his lips.
His breath on David’s hand makes him look back at Exer, starry eyed. Exer places a soft kiss on his hand, making David’s face soften as well. Holds it tenderly, almost like a promise to David. David sits back up and relaxes a little, he’s looking at Exer, but he won't look back. His gaze is steadily fixed on Ken.
The group all tilt their head in a collective “Awww!”
All except one – Brenda – who is now hurling popcorn, one after another expertly aimed at Exer’s head. “Get a room you saps!!” She shouts.
Popcorn rains down as David bursts out laughing, Exer shielding his face with one hand and swatting the air with the other. The two break apart, still smiling, cheeks flushed as the rest of the room erupts into playful chaos.
Ken sits up and grabs Brenda by the shoulder, “Hey, hey stop! I wasn't done getting the juicy details!” Brenda whirls around to see Ken, she blushes at first, but then a fire lights in her eyes as she tosses a handful from the bucket at Ken, causing him to shout as the little soft pellets hit his face and hands. Ken wipes the popcorn from his eyes and grabs Brenda by the hand, stopping her from reaching more, “Alright alright! We’re wasting popcorn!” Their faces both turn a bright red as they notice their position.
“I think they need to go into the closet.” Jolie whispers to Tim and Ron, who are sitting next to each other, sharing a bag of candy. No one else hears Jolie’s comment, and Ken drops his hand, turning back to Exer and David, who are gathering themselves after the attack.
“Seriously though – spill it! What really happened in that closet? We’re all dying to know!” Ken starts. “We heard that thud against the wall – twice! – we laughed about that sooo hard!” Ken rambled on and on, David and Exer turned wide eyed and pink remembered the times that Exer shoved David against the wall, aggressively swapping spit like the world was about to end. David bit his lip and looked away. Exer let out a short little “pff.”
Jackson, who's sitting in the corner laughing along with the chaos interjects. “Well, what can they do in 7 minutes?”
Ken smirks, raising a devilish eyebrow “I mean…”
David and Exer take a glance at each other, their eyes growing wide. Then, with a shared groan, they muttered, “Yeah no… no no we did not.” They tried to brush it off, but both secretly couldn’t help but think about what could have happened.
Jackson’s head tilts, it's not landing yet. “What?” Everyone goes silent and looks at Jackson, his face blanketed in genuine confusion. A wave of silence washed over the group. Ken’s face twists in euphoria.
Exer throws his hands up, breaking the silence, “Nothing happened, okay?!” David nods in agreement. “Just kissing. Nothing else guys.” Exer pauses, imaging David’s bare chest, his bright blue eyes batting up at him, the way he touches his bicep, his waist. Exer remembered the way he had set his hands on the dip of David’s hips, his hands barely grazing his waistband.
Ken narrows his eyes at Exer, catching the distant look flicker across his face. “You suuuure about that?” he teases, dragging out the word with a smirk.
Brenda knocks Ken behind the head, “Ken!” She shouts.
Almost at the same time, David also shouts, “Can we please change the subject!”
The group falls silent as Ken sits between the two, his arms stretching behind his back and resting on the back of the couch. Exer and David lock eyes from across Ken, sharing that same look of well, that just happened.
Jackson, bless his heart still confused as hell, chimes in. “Wait guys seriously what do you guys think happened in the closet for 7 minutes? I mean it was only 7 min-”
Jackson is silenced by Exer’s voice, firm and steady. “The next person that talks about the closet dies by popcorn.”
“Death by carbs, iconic.” Ken chirps. Exer shoots Ken a glare, and for once, Ken shuts up.
Jolie turns to Jackson and mouths the words I’ll tell you later, to him. Jackson nods with a small smile, then plops a piece of popcorn into his mouth. Jackson looks around the room, everyone’s eyes are avoiding each other now. He decides to break the silence once more.
“Well, what movie do we want to watch?”
It was night time, and the whole group was fast asleep. David tossed and turned in his spot on the couch, pulling his blanket up, then pushing it off again. Ken was to his right on the couch, curled up in a blanket that was half on the floor, and half wrapped around his body. Across from David, on the other side of the sectional, was Pamela, who was sleeping soundly - Jackson had offered her the spot without hesitation. Below Pamela was Brenda and Jolie knocked out side by side, their hands still laying on the popcorn bowl. Ron and Timothy were both knocked out on their own blanket, somewhat snuggled and cozied up.
Finally, Jackson was passed out, head rolling back on the couch. David’s smile twisted, getting the memo. His gaze lowered to the floor underneath him, and there, laying down eyes open and far off, was Exer.
David sucked in a breath through his parted lips, taking sight of Him. He was laying on his side, facing the other direction, and staring at his hand. Exer’s face lit in the moonlight, his round nose, his sharp jawline, the curves of his mussels, all being highlighted by the glow. David didn’t mean to stare, but how could he not? He looked unreachable, yet he was only an arms length away. He looked too good to be true, and yet he was there, awake and breathing.
Before even realizing, David’s feet hit the floor. Exer shifted onto his back, and catching sight of David, who was staring at him, stars glinting in his eyes. Exer finally murmurs under his breath. “How long have you been staring at me?”
David smiles and lends Exer a hand, “long enough.” Exer stares at David’s hand. “C’mon.” Exer slides a hand onto David’s with an exhale. David feels Exer’s fingers tighten around him, and his muscles work to pull him up. As he stands the blanket that was barely on his body slips away. Exer and David lock eyes, still hand in hand, faces deadpan until David’s mouth curls into a small smile. Exer scoffs as David tugs him away, down the hall and towards the room that David had moved into.
The door clicked behind them. Alone at last. The room was smaller, only a few things laid out in the room. An old mattress, that was slightly too large for its frame with some sheets, was smushed up against the corner of the room. There was also a cheap clothing hanger on the other side with a small desk. Boxes, and clothes were scattered across the room, it wasn't the most clean. Everything about it screamed “work in progress.”
David flashes a nervous smile, “It’s not a lot, mom moved her office out of here to let me stay here.”
Exer glances over at David, who's looking away from him, glancing at his room. Exer rolls his eyes impatiently, “What the hell are we waiting for?” He breaths, grabbing David by the wrist and pulling the two together into a passionate, open mouthed kiss. David squeaks into it, letting his eyes flutter shut, and snaking his arms around Exer’s shoulders.
Green sparks fly across the room as Exer’s hands make their way down David’s shirt. David smiles, he notices how Exer memorizes his body, every curve, every dip. David leans deeper into Exer’s embrace, his fingers tightening in the back of Exer’s shirt, silently urging him closer – wanting more, needing more.
“Exer,” David breathes between kisses, but Exer doesn’t want him to stray too far. “Exer, Green. ” David continues through kisses. Exer groans in response, and the two break away to get a good look. David’s eyes widen, seeing the beautiful flecks of green in the air.
Exer sighs, a smile tugging at his lips as he looks back at David. “I guess my powers are really tied to my emotions, huh?”
David giggles, “Really, You? Feelings?” He says with a grin.
Exer gasps, clutching his chest dramatically. “Wow. The slander.”
David smirks, raising an eyebrow. “So you do have feelings?”
Exer leans in, their faces close, his eyes glittering with mischief. “Tons of them.”
“Oh yeah?”
Exer rolls his eyes, lips twitching with amusement. David leans in closer teasing him, he knows what he’s doing. Both of their mouths open but they just stare at each other, their breaths lingering. Exer grows impatient, “Alright already smart mouth – shut up and kiss me.”
David’s grin softens into something darker, needier. “Yes sir,” he murmurs, grabbing the front of Exer’s shirt and pulling him. Exer walks David back, guiding him closer and closer to the bed until finally pushing him back onto the bed.
David crashes onto the bed with a soft “oomf.” There's a small glint in his eyes that Exer can see, and he craves to see it closer. David watches as Exer takes off his shirt and discards it, blending into the pile of clothes that were already on the floor. David’s eyes rake over Exer’s bare chest, anticipation painted across his face. He doesn’t breathe, he doesn’t avert his eyes, he just stares. “You’re so…” He starts, breathlessly.
Exer kneels over David, straddling him and placing his hands on his face, keeping eye contact, making David feel like if he looked away, he would never gain those lost moments back. “You gonna finish that sentence?” He says, his mouth inching closer to his own.
David’s lips part as he grabs onto Exer’s back, wrapping his arms around him and pulling him closer, “ Hot. ” Exer smiles as their lips collide again, it's sloppy and messy, but they both don’t care to make it cleaner.
Exer lets out a groan deep in the middle of his throat and trails his hands down David’s face. His hands land on David’s collar, pulling at his shirt. “Off.” he says bluntly. David looks up at him, hesitation flickering in his eyes. Exer catches it instantly. The tension in his grip softens, and he pulls back just enough to give David air. “Hey,” he says gently, his voice dipping into concern. “Did I move too fast? Are you okay?”
David swallows, his chest rising and falling too fast, “I want this.” he murmured, “I do… it's just, sometimes I worry that you’ll remember we’re both guys after you see me. ” Both of their expressions soften. “I know you won't but I keep hearing my father in my ear, telling me this is wrong.” Exer’s heart drops. “He made me feel like it was disgusting, like I was disgusting.” Exer’s face curls, hearing the pain in David’s eyes. “What if you think I’m disgusting?”
Exer sighed, brushing his thumb across David’s cheek with a gentleness that contrasted the heat moments before. “David,” he says quietly, “I will never, ever , do anything to hurt you.” He says, both of his hands now cupping both of David’s cheeks. Tears prickled at David’s eyes, but he blinked them away. “You’re perfect, and you don’t deserve anything that has happened to you… You are the best thing that has ever happened to me after all of this shit , and I’m so glad we’re here right now.” David nods in agreement, the two sharing a soft, tearful smile.
“I have never loved you more than I do right now.” David whispered, the words trembling but true. David pulls Exer in again, this time slower, more deliberate.
Exer’s hands glide down David’s sides, fingers slipping beneath the hem of his shirt. His palm presses gently against David’s bare stomach, the warmth of his touch pulling a soft gasp from David’s lips. The kiss falters, breaking for just a breath as David tugs at the collar of his shirt. Exer catches on instantly, helping him lift it up and over his head in one fluid, silent motion.
“How are you so composed right now?” David laughs, as Exer tosses the shirt to the floor.
Exer laughs, turning back to David, “I’m not, I’m utterly, hopelessly, in love with you. And sure, I'm nervous as hell but we’ll figure it out.” The two share a glance. “I’m glad my first will be you.”
David exhales shakily, lips parting in a grin. “You’re so corny.”
Exer smirks, his thumb tracing along David’s hipbone. “Whatever, just kiss me.”
Exer’s hands slide firmly around David’s waist, drawing him in with a quiet urgency. David’s arms loop tightly around Exer’s neck, anchoring himself and crashing into Exer’s bare chest. His lips part slightly – an unspoken invitation – and Exer doesn’t hesitate, deepening the kiss.
Exer’s hands tug on David’s tight pajama pants. His eyes flicker down, then back up to David. His voice drops low, thick with desire. “Are you sure this is what you want?”
David’s lips part, barely audible and trembling with want. “Yeah, I want this.” he nods with encouragement.
Exer leans in, kissing him softly, his voice falters between kisses like a secret. “I love you.”
Exer trails down David’s face and buries into David's neck. David exhales shakily, “Say it again?” he asks, his voice only loud enough for Exer to hear. David’s eyes flutter closed as Exer’s lips ghost along his neck.
“I love you.”
The words against his neck alone make David shiver. David arched under him, breaths picking up and a soft whimper escaping as he feels Exer’s fingers explore his body. Exer retracts from the rook of David’s neck and laughs at the sound. David laughs too. When the laughter dies down, letting the silence in, Exer speaks. “You’re beautiful.”
Everything about their expressions said everything that needed to be said. They were protected, safe, they belonged.
David’s mouth falls open, their hands clasp together, their arms and legs wrap around each other, playful laughs escape from their lips, and clothes lie stagnant on the floor. The electricity is undeniable. The rest of the world slips away, and only narrows down to the two, whispering each other's names like promises.
Chapter 2
Summary:
“Can’t we just… stay like this for a minute?” Exer whispered. David exhaled slowly, tension easing from his shoulders. He would like that too. “You know…” Exer started, his hand reaching out to hold David’s hand. “I’ve never let anyone that close to me before.”
David’s heart thuds in his chest feeling the sincerity in his voice. “And?”
“And I don’t regret anything that happened last night.”OR....
The next morning after the sleepover.
Notes:
Hi guys! I really appreciate the love after this last chapter of 7 mins. As always I appreciate comments and suggestions / ideas for my next fics! I'm planning something really big so be on the look out for that!
I would just like to disclaim that CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is always welcome. If you are not comfortable some more mature themes, please do not read this. (Though I would say its not as mature as the first part.) In my opinion, I believe that it is perfectly normal for seniors of high school to make these choices.
With that all out of the way, please enjoy!
Chapter Text
The morning sun shone through the curtains, covering the whole room in a warm golden light. The room smelled of cotton, skin and something else – something safe. David and Exer laid still and peacefully on the mattress, limbs tangled loosely under the covers. Exer’s arm was slung around David’s waist, keeping him as close as possible, and their legs were knotted together beneath the blanket that they must have pulled over themselves sometime in the night. David could feel the flutter of Exer’s breath brushing against the back of his neck, sending a soft shiver down his spine.
Last night didn’t feel real.
It felt like something David had only dreamed of, not in a weird or creepy way, but he cannot recall the last time he actually had felt like someone wanted him as much as Exer did in that moment. He had craved that love, love that was only existent in his dreams until now. David’s eyes fluttered open, waking to the calming but unpleasantly bright light exuding from the windows.
Then it hit him. Last night, happened.
David’s face went right red and he bit his lip. Gosh he couldn’t even think about it without feeling the need to bury himself alive. Slowly he shifted a little, in hopes to get up and get dressed, but Exer’s arms tightened around David’s waist and he incoherently mumbled into David’s long, blonde, vanilla-scented hair.
“Um… morning.” David whispers, accepting that he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
“Mmph.” Exer grumbled in response. After a moment, he lifted his head and pulled David closer, nuzzling his face into David’s hair.
“Exer…” David started. He wanted to get up and get dressed in something other than just his boxers, if anyone walked in on them that sure would be a story to tell.
“And?”
“And I don’t regret anything that happened last night.”
David and Exer share a smile without needing to look at each other. Exer rests his chin on top of David’s head and David brings Exer’s hand around his chest. Suddenly, David’s face twinges in pain. He begins to ache in – with lack of better words – embarrassing places.
“God, my body hurts,” David blurts out through gritted teeth. “I blame you.”
Exer scoffs low in his throat, a teasing smile tugging at his lips. “You seemed to like it.”
David’s eyes snap open, lips pressing into a pout. “Asshole.” Exer’s hands wrapped around David’s body and carefully rolled David around. “Careful, careful.” David said as he was being rolled around. He let out a soft sigh as his head rested on Exer’s chest.
“That game was so stupid, but I’m glad it led to this.” Exer said, slipping a hand into David's soft blonde hair. “Do you think anyone heard anything?”
David’s face twisted with concern. “God, I hope not. There’s gonna be a seriously awkward breakfast conversation either way.”
“What are we even gonna tell them?”
David chuckled, “Pff, I dunno… ‘Nunya?’ They’re smart enough to put two and two together.”
Exer bites his lip and his brows furl in thought. “We’ll just say we were talking about real deep, emotional stuff.”
“Yeah, that will explain the messy hair and bruises.” David rolls his eyes
“Hey, some conversations get passionate,” Exer murmured, the corners of his mouth curving. He slid his hand up to cradle David’s cheek, thumb brushing softly under his eye as he guided him closer.
“Kind of like this one.”
Their lips met in a kiss—slow, deliberate. David’s hands pressed lightly to Exer’s chest, holding him there like an anchor. The kiss said everything neither had the words for – want, love, trust. A breath shared between two people finally in sync.
Naturally, the kiss deepens. – There’s no rush, just warmth and want for each other. David crawls forward and swings his leg around Exer’s waist straddling him. Exer exhales sharply, his hands trailing down David’s body and resting on his waist like they belong there.
The two break away, their chests heaving. “Round two right now? I thought you were sore from last night…” Exer says cautiously.
David huffs a quiet laugh, “I don’t care anymore.” Exer’s eyes darken, but his smile softens the hunger. They connect once more, this time needier. David’s hand slips into Exer’s hair, tugging just enough to cause a groan from him. There's nothing frantic about the moment, just deep consuming want. Their bodies press closer, hearts pounding in their chest almost in sync.
There's a knock from the door, then it opens, but it's too much too late. David’s mom slips through the door. “Hey boys! The rest of the group is at the- oh my.”
The two freeze and David launches off of Exer quickly. The two quickly grab the covers, pulling it over them up their chin. This was the farthest they have been from each other since the living room.
David’s mother opens her mouth, closes, and then opens again. “Put some clothes on, and then tell me when it’s ok to come back in.” The door shuts behind her and the two share a nervous glance.
“She’s totally gonna give us the talk.” David murmurs.
“Totally.” Exer hops out of the bed and pulls his pants and shirt off the floor, and watches as David rolls out of bed, hops up and then- falls. Face first. “Holy shit-” Exer starts, then covers his mouth, holding back his laughter.
David lifts himself back up slowly with Exer’s help and glares at him. “Your fault.” Exer doesn’t say anything, he just winks.
Christine, David’s mom, re-enters nervously once David shouts out to her when they’re situated back on David’s bed and clothed. Mrs Miller rests her hand thoughtfully on her chin, clearly weighing her next words.
“Alright ummm… Where should I start…” Christine begins.
“Mom, you don’t have to-” David interjects.
“Ah. No, I need to talk about this. Now, I know that you two really like each other, you’ve been inseparable since you two met. But I need to make sure that you two are being safe.” David buries his face in his palms and groans. “I’m serious. With the epidemic going around and with people saying things, just make sure you two are aware of your health.”
She glanced away for a moment, fiddling with the hem of her sleeve before looking back at them. “Also, you two might want to keep the… ahem, passionate moments… a little quieter. I mean, I know love is loud sometimes, but the walls here are pretty thin.”
The two shared a nervous glance at each other, then turned their eyes back to Christine, who was already halfway out the door. “The group is waiting for you at the table, boys!” she chirped over her shoulder, her voice sweet—but unmistakably amused. The door shut with a soft, final click .
There was a beat of silence.
David groaned and flopped backward onto the bed, throwing an arm over his face. “We are never living this down.”
Exer chuckled beside him, resting a hand on David’s thigh. “I think that was her nice way of saying we need to cool it.”
David peeked through his fingers. “Do you think she heard—”
“She definitely heard.”
They both groaned in unison.
David didn’t think there could be a more awkward conversation until the two sat down at the breakfast table. A fork clattered loudly coming from Ken’s plate, and he sat forward, setting an elbow on the table and leaning across, eyeing David and Exer.
Before Ken could open his mouth, Jolie placed a hand on his shoulder, sitting him back. Exer and David dug into their food hungrily, and the rest of the group watched with almost empty plates. “Sooo… how did everyone sleep?” Timothy started.
“Mphm, good.” Ron said with a face full of pancakes. “Thank you for making these Brenda!
Very good.”
Brenda, who was sitting next to Ron, nudged him affectionately, “Aww, thank you Ron!”
“How did everyone else sleep?” Ken asked, his eyes fixed on Exer and David. David stared down at his plate, absently pushing food around with his fork with a far away stare.
Exer swallowed the last bite before answering. “We slept well.”
“Well.” Ken echoed.”
“Ken—” Jolie started, a warning in her voice.
But Ken leaned forward, brushing off her attempt to rein him in. “At what time exactly did you two decide to leave the group and move into the bedroom?” His smile turned sly.
Ken moves his gaze to David, whose hair has fallen over his eyes, he doesn’t even bother to lift his hands to move them away. “And what time did you actually go to sleep?” Ken continued, eyes still on David. “Because he looks like he got hit by a truck.”
“Hey, Mr Reporter,” Exer said, resting a hand on David’s shoulder with a grin, “what happens between me and David? That’s classified stuff—top secret. You’re not getting the scoop.”
David took a deep breath and moved his gaze up to Ken’s, “Okay, you really wanna know?” David started, a tired smile tugging at his lips.
“Oh lord please no…” Pamela covered her face in her hands. Jackson looked over at her with a confused smile.
Exer looked over at David, honestly confused about where he’s going with the plan and where his sudden confidence came from. David quickly twisted his body towards Exer and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt tightly, and pulled him in for a passionate kiss.
Exer’s eyes flutter shut, his hands creeping up behind David’s neck, pulling him closer. The entire table explodes into groans and screams as the two pretend like no one else was there. Ken just sits and stares in awe as the two get deeper and deeper into it, only confirming his (correct) suspicions.
Brenda picks up the nearest cloth napkin and whacks David on the back with it multiple times screaming, “Break it up!! Break it up!!!”
Jolie, Timothy and Ron break out into laughter as Brenda claws at David’s back. Jackson leaned back in his chair with a grin, “Well that's one way to settle the mystery.”
Pamela turned to Jackson and whispered in his ear “It was practically already settled the second they walked in.” Jackson just looked at her with a twisted smile, holding back laughter and nodding.
The two pull away and stare at each other longingly, both wearing cheeky smiles. As soon as they break apart David is yanked back violently by Brenda, as she holds him in a playful chokehold and has her other hand messing up his already messy hair. “Alright that's enough!”
David laughs wrapping his hands around Brenda’s arm that is around his neck. “Ow, ow ow! Ok- stop! I’m sorry!”
Brenda lets David go and he messes with his hair, trying to fix it to the best of his ability. Exer puts a hand on David’s and lowers it, as if to say, don’t worry about it, you’re beautiful.
“Well! I guess that settles it!” Ken says sitting back and moving his gaze to the rest of the table, wiping the tears from their eyes.
“Take notes Ken, we’re not demonstrating again.” Exer says with a glint in his eye.
“Oh well then I'll need you to do it again because I wasn’t taking any…” But before Ken could continue, everyone’s attention shifted to the window. A white van pulled into the driveway, and they spotted Jolie’s mom honking cheerfully.
“Oh, that’s Mom!” Jolie jumped up, grabbing her plate. “We’re supposed to be taking everyone home.” The group exchanged tired groans, then all stood up, carrying their plates toward the kitchen.
The kitchen filled with the sound of clattering plates and water running as the group scrambled to clean up. Brenda grabbed a stack of napkins and Jackson loaded the dishwasher with Pamela. Exer placed some plastic cups into the recycling as he felt a tap from his back. “Hey man.” He heard Ken’s voice cut through the air, sincerely.
Exer turned around to see Ken, a hand placed nervously on the back of his neck. “Sorry if I overstepped, Jolie said I went a little far with the questions and I didn’t mean to pressure you guys.” Ken continued.
Exer chuckled, placing a firm hand on Ken’s shoulder and giving it a reassuring pat. “Pfft. Hey, it’s all good, dude. I actually thought it was pretty funny. No harm, no foul.”
“If you’re sure…” Exer nodded once more. Ken let out a relieved sigh. “Thanks, man.”
Exer grinned and pulled him into a quick, casual bro hug. Ken fumbled awkwardly, clearly not used to the gesture. As they pulled apart, Ken’s eyes caught Jolie and Timothy setting their bags down on the kitchen counter.
The rest of the scene continues with final waves and goodbyes as the group grabbed their bags and headed for the door. Ken and Ron nudged David playfully one last time causing David to let out a short, tired laugh. Brenda, Exer and David watched as the car drove off the way it came.
Inside, the kitchen was quieter and tidier. Brenda glanced over to the two who were just finishing loading the dish washer. “What a night.” She sighed, turning off the faucet.
“Tell me about it.” Exer said, eyeing David, who was fumbling with the last plate. Exer lifted the dishwasher as it closed with a click, Brenda leaned against the sink.
“Jeez, you guys both look wiped.” Brenda started. “Long night last night?” She said with a smile. “Look, I won’t drill you anymore than you already have, make sure you two get some sleep tonight.”
Brenda gave Exer a gentle pat on the shoulder and headed down the hall to her room. Exer nodded thoughtfully at her last comment before turning to David.
David slouched against the kitchen counter, his body leaning heavily on it for support. Exer stepped closer – they were about the same height – and placed a soft hand on David’s cheek, gently lifting his head. “You look really tired,” Exer said quietly.
“Mhm… and it hurts to stand.” David said through mumbles.
Exer laughed and planted a loving kiss on the middle of David’s forehead. “Sorry about that love, let's get you back to bed.” David nodded, closing his eyes as Exer guided him down the hall.
Exer slid an arm around David’s waist, firmly steadying him as he leaned into him. David’s head rested softly on Exer’s shoulder, his breathing slow but heavy as he fought to stay awake. As they entered the room, Exer eased David onto the bed, careful not to jostle him.
He tucked the blanket gently around David, brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead. David sighed softly, already drifting toward sleep. Exer stayed close for a moment, watching him with a tender smile before quietly slipping out, leaving the door slightly ajar.
“You didn’t have to do this, I know your Dad will be here any moment now, you could have cleaned up instead.” David said, sleep thick in his voice.
“I prefer this.” Exer said quietly. David’s breathing deepened, eyes still closed but his hand found Exer’s, squeezing it lightly. A smile placed on his lips.
“You’re so corny.”
Suddenly Exer hears a car faintly from outside. Exer glanced at the window then back at David, who was already fast asleep. Quietly, Exer leaned down to place a kiss on David’s cheek, and then stood, exiting the room.
He moved through the living room, gathering his things quickly, then stepped outside and made his way to the driveway. His dad was waiting in his red convertible. “Hey kiddo!” Harry called out. “Jeez, did you get any sleep?” he asked as Exer opened the car door.
Exer shook his head with a small grin, “Nope, but some things are worth staying awake for.”
