Chapter Text
When Uraraka was pulled out of Present Mic's English class she couldn't help but be a bit grateful. It wasn't that she didn't like him but the grammar, alphabet and well everything was so different to Japanese; it could be quite confusing. English was probably her least favourite subject just before Maths, cause nobody likes Maths (and if they do they're a lunatic).
Though now that she knew why she'd been pulled out of her class, she would have preferred to take thousands more English lessons just so that her parents could still be safe and happy at home, welcoming her with their open arms and warm but tired smiles.
"I'm so sorry Uraraka... your parents have been killed in a villain attack, the hero's and medical staff did all they could. Your father was killed instantly but your mother was on the brink for a while before slipping away."
It had absolutely shattered her world.
Sure, she knew many people died each year from villain attacks but back then it was just numbers on a page, an unfortunate fact of life - it was one of her motivations to become a hero (aside from earning enough money to help her parents business) but to have it happen to her, to be one of the people who were mourning their family because of it was just unbearable.
"What?" Her chest tightened, "this is just some stupid practical joke isn't it? Isn't it?" Her voice becoming more and more desperate as the seconds passed. Her eyes were pleading with Aizawa, with anyone who could jump out and scream that it was just a prank. A stupid, cruel trick that'd been taken too far.
Nobody jumped out. Nobody rushed her shouting and laughing.
"I'm sorry Uraraka." The teacher watched the desperate (bordering on hysteric) smile fade from his usually bubbly, optimistic student's face with remorse. Tears were streaming down her cheeks now and she curled in upon herself, mourning her lost parents.
"I'm sorry."
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
Unfortunately for Ochako she was only allowed to mourn for a couple hours before they had to get onto the *very* pressing legal matters. Aizawa had quite a few thing to say about this, all of which had to be censored.
"I don't see why they can't give you a couple days before getting into this." He grumbled quietly under his breath.
A few minutes later Tsukauchi and a tall, blond man walked in and sat down on the chairs opposite student and teacher.
The detective spoke first, "I'm sorry that we had to do this so soon but my colleague" he gestured to his companion, "insisted that we get it over with as quickly as possible... oh and my sincerest apologies for your loss Uraraka."
The colleague was wearing a pressed, navy suit with a crisp, white shirt underneath and polished brown shoes. His gelled hair hadn't a single blond strand out of place. There were no visible indicators to what his quirk could be.
"Good afternoon," the lawyer stiffly stated, "my name is Kanja Tadashi and I will be overseeing any and all legal matters that might come your way. Though I would like to begin by offering my condolences - I wish we could have met under different, better circumstances."
He was interrupted by the young brunette standing up and bowing low. "Thank you, Kanja-Sensei but I don't have any money I could give you to pay."
Aizawa was about to step in when he saw Kanja hesitating over something, confliction crossing over his face and he stole a pained glance at Tsukauchi.
"There... there is no need for that," he waved at her to indicating the bowing, "all expenses have already been paid for by a... a friend of your parents. And you were left a trust fund just in case." He said in a strained voice.
"What? Who?" The girl asked surprised. Aizawa gently guided her back down to her chair and sighed.
Well done, you've earned the title of Problem Child number 4, just after Midoriya, Bakugo and Todoroki in that order. Though at this rate you might be more deserving of Problem Child 1.
"That is not important right now," the lawyer leaned down and grabbed some files, "what is important however, is the matter of your guardianship, your parents have left a will stating that they'd entrust you and your safety -should something happen- to a Dazai Osamu."
She stilled suddenly and Aizawa watched her reaction with carefully concealed interest. "Do you know this man?" He .
She replied hesitantly after mulling over it for a minute, "Yes... I... he was a childhood friend of my brother, I've only seen him a few times over the last couple of years because he lives in Yokohama."
…
Yokohama!? Well this just got heaps more complicated. The underground hero rubbed the crease between his eyebrows, already predicting the headache this was going to be.
"Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to get in contact with Dazai," the lawyer said, "So for now I think it would be best if Aizawa is your temporary guardian, especially considering you are both already living in the dorms - would you agree Tsukauchi?"
"Ah... yes, yes that would be for the best, why don't you focus on getting the business sorted and anything else - I'll see if I can get in touch with this elusive Dazai," Kanja seemed to actually wilt with relief at that, "Are you alright with this Aizawa?"
"Of course," the hero answered, and then under his breath "I've practically adopted the whole class anyway."
The lawyer shifted his attention and collected 3 thick envelopes from his briefcase and placed them on the table in front of the brunette. "Here, these were left in my care. Though you can technically only open one of them now." He placed a hand on the first, "This one is addressed to you; you can open it whenever you wish, this one," he pointed at another of the 3, "is to be opened with Dazai and the other..." he trailed off and looked away guiltily.
"The other?"
"Is addressed to your brother."
"What!? But he's been dead for years! He died before I was even born!"
Kanja held up both hands, "I don't know Miss Uraraka, I am not permitted to read them, but please keep them safe."
"I will..." Ochako tiredly stood, said her goodbyes and left, Aizawa's concerned shadow following behind her.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
Aizawa escorted her back to the dorms. He may not have said much but his presence had always been comforting. She shut herself in her room the moment they got back hid the envelopes in an empty drawer in the desk that UA had provided along with the bed and wardrobe, not wanting to see the thick paper reminders of her parent's deaths.
Once the lessons for the day were over Midoriya and a few others knocked on her door. It was a Wednesday so the class usually had a movie night after doing all the homework they'd been set. This had been a tradition everyone up-kept religiously but surprisingly for everyone, Ochako who'd not only not returned to classes that day but also opted out of their sacred ritual as well; shutting the door apologetically in their faces. Much to the surprise of her classmates.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
Mina knocked on her friend's door the next morning, expecting to see the brunette already dressed and bound out of her dorm with far too much energy for so early in the morning like every other day. The two girls usually had breakfast and walked over to class together. That and she was curious to why Ochako had missed out on the movie night and classes yesterday.
"Ocha? Are you coming?" Mina pestered.
After maybe 5 minutes of pestering the brunette finally cracked her door open and answered, "No Mina... I-I'm sorry but I don't feel well today."
So she was left alone and Mina walked with Momo instead chatting worriedly about their common friend. When the girl told their teacher he didn't seem surprised and accepted it quickly, though the crinkle between his eyebrows was a tell-tale sign that he was concerned.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
Later that day Aizawa knocked quietly on the brunette's door and was let in.
"How are you holding up?"
He got a shaky smile in return from her seat on the bed, "I'll be okay… eventually." He carefully went to sit down next to her on the bed aware that grief makes people especially volatile. After a while of sitting in silence she crept quietly over to her desk and returned, envelope in hand.
"Could… could you read it to me?" She asked, avoiding his eye.
He obliged.
"To our darling daughter,
At the time of writing this letter you've just been accepted onto UA and our hearts burst with joy and pride for you and your future. However this has shocked us into reality. You are growing up and we will not be around forever. At the time of writing this we are still young and hopefully have many years ahead of us to spend together, but god forbid if you are reading this it means that some unforeseen circumstances have occurred whilst you're still so young. We will never have the opportunity to meet our future grandkids or meet your future spouse. For that we are sorry ma belle fille. Regarding the will, everything we've ever lived for has been left to you. I'm sure you're curious about the other letters.
We ran into Dazai the other day and he hasn't changed much, just gotten brighter, healthier and overall more responsible even if it's not visible immediately with how he acts like a child. We've both agreed that we don't want you to go into the system and have asked him to take you in should the need arise. He would be the best option (aside from your brother if he was still alive but...) and we couldn't trust you with anyone else, of course this comes down to your decision. The letter that is addressed to you both contains information regarding your brother. We hope you won't let it consume you like it did for us before you were born. We'd always planned to tell you when you turned 18. The last letter is addressed to Chuuya himself, as a just in case. Dazai's letter will explain.
Ochako you should know that we'd go to the ends of the earth and back for you. Even if we're not with you physically we'll always be by your side in spirit.
Love,
Uraraka Nako and Ochame."
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
One week turned into two and before she knew it, the date for her parent's funeral had come. Aizawa being her guardian for now accompanied her. To her surprise there were a lot more people than she'd though would come, mostly friends of her parents who she'd never met, or only very briefly. She stayed after the service - long after everyone had left. Aizawa was sitting on a bench a respectful distance away on his phone.
Two fresh gravestones sat in front of her, next to the much older and smaller grave that read 'Uraraka Chuuya'. It was their final wish to be buried next to their lost son, and one day far into the future, Ochako would join them too.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
Not long after a man in his early 20s with striking eyes - one brown, one blue - and flaming red hair walked in. He scanned the area before his eyes landed on her, or more accurately the graves behind her, walked over and plopped himself down next to the brunette.
"...Hello?"
He gave her a sad smile and placed a small bouquet on her brother's grave. "You are Uraraka Ochako?"
"Yes? …Who are you?"
He stared at the graves - apparently not planning on answering her question, "They were your parents?"
"Yea… did you know them?"
"I'm sorry I know how hard it is to loose someone and no, I'm here to visit them for a… a friend, I suppose."
"They knew them? Why couldn't they come?" She tentatively asks.
"Briefly, and he couldn't come cause he's not alive anymore."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
He smiled sadly, "Don't worry about it. I didn't know him very well"
They sat in awkward silence for a few minutes - her arms wrapped around her knees and him leaning on his hands gazing at the stones in front of them. He sighed heavily, "I should be going now, it was nice to meet you," he said standing up and brushing loose grass from his trousers.
"Uh, yea you too." She said relieved that her voice didn't shake.
"Au revoir petite souris."
"Bye?" Ochako watched him stroll out of the graveyard with his hands in his pockets in confusion
"Uraraka." Aizawa pulled the girl out of her thoughts, "I'm sorry but we need to go now, I’ve got patrol in a bit and it’s getting dark. We can come back next weekend if you want?"
"Okay."
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
It was another week before Tsukauchi called to deliver the news that he'd managed to get in contact with Dazai through his work - a detective agency.
Notes:
If you have any ideas you want me to include like fluffy scenes or anything, I'll do my best to do your idea justice, and will credit you, but keep in mind that I have got a rough layout to where the plot is going so it might not happen if it doesn't fit or might take a while until I get to a point in the story where it does.
There will not be a posting schedule because my inspiration comes and goes, same for my motivation and ideas,I will be trying to post around once a month maybe more. I won't abandoned this fic unless I actually say it has been (or you don't hear from me for a couple of years).
If you don't like any of the ships then tough (my MHA ships are Tododeku and Kacchaco) so if you don't like don't read.

Chapter 2: Trips, in more Ways than One
Summary:
1A learns about the trip to Yokohama. There are a couple of injuries during the girls night sleepover but they manage to make it out unscathed (mostly).
Notes:
Wooo, another chapter already.
I had a family party the other day (my grandpa has 9 siblings so there's a lot of people who come if you count all their spouses, children and children's children and spouses) I got a lot done cause the first half was very boring. The second half was more entertaining though cause they were all drunk, dancing and one of my great aunts was flirting with the bartender.

Chapter Text
Aizawa always dreaded Nedzu summoning him to his office. It was always more hassle than it was worth and the bear-mouse-thing revels in his employees discomfort. The sadistic rodent.
"Ah Aizawa how have you been?"
"You saw me yesterday, what do you need?" He asked, tapping his fingers restlessly on the desk.
"Straight to the point as always. Given the new… circumstances concerning you student - Uraraka Ochako - I've decided that a field trip to Yokohama might be a better alternative to sending her there without any prior knowledge."
"A… a field trip?"
"Yes, it would give us the opportunity to get a read on this Dazai and allow us to be nearby at the same time that she settles in. It will last the fortnight before school breaks up for the holidays, with a week just before, so if it's been approved she can stay there. Of course the trip will be educational and I've called in a favour, your hosts will be helping the students in their combat abilities; as well as how they can apply their quirks."
Aizawa sighed. He had admittedly, been losing sleep over worrying for his newly orphaned student. She was less bubbly and more reserved now; he often catches her staring blankly at a worksheet or out the window in class, her attention span had rapidly gone downhill these past few weeks - not that he blames her. He's also been losing sleep over shipping her of to Yokohama without - like Nedzu said - any prior knowledge of the area , Dazai, and in general her safety.
So he ignored the heavily persistent migraine warning him, and gave in.
"Wonderful, I've already arranged it all, we just need parental consent."
Of course he had.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
It was nearly time for lessons to start when Aizawa finally arrived to class. A lot later than he usually would. Most, if not the majority of his students hadn't noticed him enter.
That's yet another thing to work on, spatial awareness. Honestly, you wouldn't be able to tell that they're heroes in training.
It was mentally added to his list. The first few pupils to notice him were Todoroki, Bakugo, Iida, Yaoyorozu, and Jirou, who'd probably known the second he walked in, though her quirk did give her an unfair advantage.
At the beginning of the year she used to warn her fellow classmates when she heard him approaching. When he'd caught on he had kept her behind to explain that they wouldn't always be able to rely on her and her quirk to warn them. Now she understood and kept quiet.
Once the entire class was silent he spoke. "About time, If I was a villain you would all be injured and useless by now, if not dead." Harsh. "Principal Nedzu has planned a trip for you all, you'll need this parental consent form filled out and handed in to me by the end of this week, no later than Friday lunchtime. It will last the 2 weeks after this weekend up until the week before the half term holidays."
That sent the class off, all of them buzzing with excitement, until Aizawa glared at them all, this time with his quirk, hair splayed out behind him.
"Where will we be going Sensei?" Momo asked.
"Yokohama has agreed to open up its boarders for us, to assist in training the next generation of heroes."
Once again they started chatting, this time with more curiosity and fear than excitement. Their teacher sighed and just let them get it all out before he continued.
Finally Kaminari's hand shot up and asked the question they'd all been silently wondering, "But Sensei aren't they all quirkless? How will they help us train if they're defenceless against villains?"
"First of all, the quirkless are not defenceless or fragile, and secondly my quirk is not a combative one, does that hinder my ability to teach you all? No. No it does not. I don't know what it will be in the schedule that our hosts are preparing for us, and yes you will have free time." He sighed as a few hands that had shot up at the mention of schedule were lowered. Anything else? Ashido?"
"How many bags will we be allowed to bring?"
"The maximum is 3 large suitcases and a backpack. Considering you are all heroes-in-training I'm hoping you will pack efficiently and only what's necessary." He fixed a lethal glare that lingered longer on a few members of the class in particular, "that means no no devices other than phones… yes Hagakure?"
"Which teachers will be coming with us?"
"Myself and Allmight, as well as Midnight will be your chaperones."
At the end of class Midoriya watched Aizawa beckon Uraraka to stay and she went up to the front dutifully. He looked around to check if anyone else had noticed, and, lo and behold Kacchan was glaring back at him - though it was softer than usual as he was distracted and kept glancing at the door.
Insatiable curiosity gnawed at Deku. Ochako had been more quiet lately, more fragile; quick to rush out a room or lash out with a temper rivalling, or well surpassing Kacchan's. It seemed especially potent over several topic's, such as the other day when Sero was complaining about his parents calling him everyday to check up on him, or targeted like when Mineta was being his usual perverted self, he'd already been sent to Recovery Girl's office several times this past month (though he'd cooled down a bit after one too many attempts that ended with at least a bruise).
The teachers had been turning blind eye to it. Only suggesting that she step outside to calm down.
"What is it Sensei? Is it about Yokohama?" The brunette questioned, and then her eyes gained a glittered with realisation, "Oh, Oh! Will I be allowed to meet Dazai?"
"Yes, and we will be looking to see if he's suitable to be your permanent guardian."
After a good month of seeing her act like a shadow of herself it was refreshing to see the spark back. "Ah! I have to go pack!" She chirped, rushing off to do just that.
"Hold on!" He shouted after her with a exasperated smile, "you've still got lessons!"
His student stopped turned around and sheepishly jogged back, returning to walk back in the opposite direction towards her next class.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
The 'Deku squad' as their peer's liked to jokingly call them, ambled back to their dorm building, chatting about the homework set for them that day when the conversation turned to trip.
"Are you all looking forward to the Yokohama trip?" Tsu asked.
Deku started excitedly rambling: wondering what the training would be, if anyone there has quirks, if anyone will let him analyse their fighting style and so on. It was often like this when Midoriya was set off on a rant and the rest of them couldn't get a word in edgeways, lapsing into a comfortable half-silence.
Seeing as their unofficial leader would be occupying the conversation for the remainder of the walk back, Tsu slowed down to where Uraraka was dragging her feet at the back of the group. "Are you coming to the girls night later?" She questioned quietly with a spark of hope in her eyes, making sure non of the boys could hear her.
Ochako hesitated, since that she'd not attended a single class gathering / gone out with a group of people, and they only did girls night once a fortnight to a month. It would be the last one before the trip. So when she finally agreed the girl knew she'd be in for an interrogation later due to her drastic change in behaviour, one where she'd finally admit to what had happened and get the support Aizawa had suggested getting one of many times they were waiting outside the classroom while she was calming down.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
Girls night in the 1A dorms always started with nails painting and gossip, mainly about the 1A boys or who was dating who in the other classes. This time however, it began with a small visit to Recovery Girl's office to double check for a concussion and get an ice pack. Ironically it was Class 1A's resident gravity manipulator who had tripped over the nail polish box and hit her head on Mina's vanity. So one scolding later, they finally began.
Ochako who was thoroughly embarrassed by now and really didn't want to go through an interrogation, decided that ripping the plaster off would be the easiest.
She numbly stated, "my parents were killed in a villain attack three weeks ago."
Now though, in hindsight, it perhaps wasn't the best to say it.
"WHAT?!!!??" Mina choked as she jumped up, spilling the hot chocolate down her pyjama shirt, causing yet another visit to Recovery Girl who was not happy to be treating burns at close to 10pm.
Notes:
It's a bit shorter and I'll probably go back to edit it a bit later but I'm going on holiday for a week soon (getting up at 3:30 for a plane should be a crime T-T ) so I wanted to get it out now before I go away. Should hopefully have another one out in around a week.
I don't know why but the previous chapter's notes are appearing at the bottom so just ignore it if you see it.
Chapter 3: Yokohama is Not All it Seems
Summary:
Class 1A finally set off and arrive at Yokohama. They are introduced to the ADA, as well as a couple 'extras'.
Unpacking is decidedly not fun according to the Baku-squad, who are eager to explore.
Notes:
I'm back! Yay, sorry I'm a bit late, holiday was great. I did do some writing on the plane back and when we were in the car. Not on the way there though cause I was hella tired
Did do a little bit of research (why is that such an annoying word to spell? I'd be lost without the correction thing. Daisy if your reading this, yes I'm still struggling to spell that stupid word).
By research I mean my trusty friend google, apparently in canon each MHA dorm building has 2! TWO! lifts (elevators for you americans) leading to each side, girls and boys, so I threw that away cause its a rich school but it can't be that rich as that has no practical use for a building that size. In my world they have ONE lift only to be used if you are injured, disabled or live on the top 2 floors.
Also why do they spread the girls out so much? I'm putting Tsu next to Hagakure on floor 3 with Jirou and Momo next to Mina on floor 4 with Ochako - so 3 girls on the middle floors, nobody on 3 or 5 for the girls side.
I'm going to keep that non of the girls are on floor 2 in my head its cause of Mineta - means he can't sneak into any of their rooms as he has no business being up there, non of the boys would stick up for him unless he was actually gonna hang out with them, and even then they'd escort him up and down.
Anyway enjoy!
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Surveying her room she sighed, her two suitcases sat by the door waiting. The day had finally come. She was going to Yokohama, her birthplace, and she was going to meet Dazai. Considering she'll be moving to Dazai's apartment if all goes well, it had been discussed and agreed upon that she should take more stuff than she usually would for a two week trip to leave with her new guardian.
She hadn't actually had the chance to speak to Dazai - she was usually at school when he called and he was usually on a mission for his work or just unreachable every time she called, so Tadashi had become an unofficial go-between, much to his displeasure. According to him Dazai had been looking for and had moved to a new apartment in a much safer area; it was also a lot bigger - meaning she could have her own room. The last place he'd lived in was a rougher part of Yokohama and only had one bedroom. As grateful as she was there was a pit of guilt sitting at the bottom of her stomach whenever she though about the fact he was moving especially for her, despite Aizawa's reassurances.
Everything from her old house was being packed into boxes and put in storage for her to sort through later, it would be moved to a different storage facility in Yokohama so everything would be accessible if her guardianship went through. Tadashi had visited her again not long after the funeral (read, a day) to talk about her inheritance. The house held too many painful memories to be kept so it was in the process of being sold.
She'd double and then triple checked she had packed everything: tops, t-shirts, leggings, jeans, a couple skirts and shorts, a jacket and hoodie, a weeks worth of working out clothing that she would wash halfway through, underwear, socks, a coat in case it got cold, pyjamas, toiletries, a hair brush, the cheap hairbands she'd been using her whole life, and 2 pairs of shoes - one for training, one as an extra.
"Ocha? You coming? I think everyone's already outside, we're leaving soon," Momo smiled as she knocked on the open door, her bags by her side.
Yaoyorouzu was wearing a white summer dress (with tights underneath as the weather could be unforgiving) that had deep red flowers embroidered into it - matching the colour of her hero costume, a large summer hat adorned her head and the whole fit was topped by a warm jacket that finished the look. It was beginning to get colder now the seasons are changing from summer to autumn.
"Yep, I think I've got everything." She answered, zipping up the last suitcase and grabbing her rucksack, slinging it over one shoulder and a purse that was neutral enough to match all the clothes she'd packed, luggage in hand before scanning the room one final time and closing the door.
I've got my passport, credit card, phone with All Might, Aizawa, and Midnight's phone numbers inputted from the briefing the other day. Oh! And the envelopes.
Seeing as Momo had crammed the maximum amount of stuff that could be physically shoved into the three large cases, "You can never be too prepared," regardless of the fact that she could make things, it meant that the two girls had 5 large, heavy suitcases between them. Unfortunately the only elevator in the building was closed, awaiting repairs and cause they could only safely carry one down each staircase at a time, their descent was slow due to the fact that they had to keep going back up for the bags left at the top. Thank God their rooms weren't on the top floor or it would have made the journey even longer, though being on the 3rd floor - just below didn't help.
It only occurred to the gravity manipulator about halfway down that she could make stuff weightless with her quirk. It sped up the process and the two girls were on the last staircase when Iida joined them, taking two of Momo's.
As class president (and a severe control freak to the point that - as much as she loved her friend - had her suspecting that he had some undiagnosed OCD) he'd been checking all the floors looking for stray classmates to hurry them up so everyone would be on time.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
Momo set down her now one bag and Iida followed suit as Ochako released them from the hold of her quirk. She took the opportunity to survey their surroundings while Iida rushed off in the direction of the bus.
Everyone was milling around next to the coach, chatting and grinning. A few students were getting help from All-might to put their luggage away while Aizawa and Midnight were talking to four men standing just outside the door up into the bus.
The tallest was probably around 6ft with Golden-blond-lime hair tucked neatly into a rat-tail, his eyes were a dull green and he was wearing a beige pair of trousers with a matching waistcoat over a dark grey long-sleeve dress shirt and red ribbon tied into a bow, plain brown shoes on his feet. Glasses framed his face giving him stern middle-school teacher vibes.
Closest to him was the first ginger, his hair had a bright orange colour, not dissimilar to an actual orange - as in the fruit - with a small silver clip holding part of it out of his face, an off-white jumper clung loosely to his thin frame over a black sleeveless vest, light-blue Demin jeans and with the red jacket round his waist he could have easily passed for a student on the school trip. He was eyeing the other two with a poorly disguised disgust.
Opposite the first ginger was the oldest who had to be at least early 50s, he had a monocle on his right eye that was secured by a gold chain. His hair was in a swept-back grey hair with a moustache and goatee. He was easily the best dressed, wearing a long black coat and beige-brown scarf, over a long dress-shirt with a black bow-tie, black trousers ironed to perfection, and black shoes.
Next to him stood the other ginger whose hair had more of a dullish brown-red hue. He had a green copped jacket with fur decorating the collar over a white shirt that had more than a few reddish-brown substance, jeans, brown boots and a plaster over his nose, speckled with light freckles.
Mina pulled her attention from the men by greeting them excitedly, bounding over and bouncing on the balls of her feet. Uraraka suspects it's a case of an overdose on caffeine, especially for so early in the morning when the alien usually was dead on her feet. "Are you girls excited?! I am! All of my bags are already on the coach, how much did you pack? I've got so many cute summer clothes but I've also got cute autumn clothes so it was so hard to choose. You two are the last ones to get here. Have you seen those men? I wonder what they're here for... the ginger one with the red hoodie is cute. Oh! Who are you gonna sit by?"
Momo put her hands up in a futile attempt to shelter herself from the rapid onslaught of her friends ramble, "Slow down Mina," she laughed, amused, "information overload. I'm not sure who I'll sit by. . . assuming that we get to pick, you never know, Aizawa Sensei might have assigned us partners." At that Mina's face fell.
"You don't think he will?" she wailed, "that'll ruin all the excitement!"
"Unfortunately I don't think he cares much Mina, do you mind helping me and take that bag so I can put them away?" The deputy class president looked back, "You coming chaka?"
"Huh? Oh, yea wait up!"
The trio didn't get that far, as Aizawa had everyone gather round for a quick debriefing as he called it.
"Alright problem children! Listen up." A pointed look from Midnight was sent his way, "Please," he glared back at her. "We have assigned you a travel buddy for the way there and back. . . I don't want to hear any complaining! Considering the maturity levels of some of you around here you couldn't be trusted to sit where you liked otherwise the bus would crash."
"You are expected to stick together, that includes while we are being shown around, you will be allowed to go exploring in groups of your choice as long as they are sensible. On our way we will only be making two pit stops for the toilet and both will be before the boarders of Yokohama so you are going to go then. We're not going to stop whenever one of you suddenly need it as it would add an extra hour to our travel time."
He passed the metaphorical mic over to Midnight who'd been chatting with the men by the door. One of them - man with the plaster - was just inside on the steps and hanging off of the ceiling of the coach with ease and boredom, his senior seemed to only be putting up with it out of obvious exhaustion and an exasperated fondness.
"I will be calling out your partners now and I will not be repeating myself," Midnight grabbed a sheet of paper from her pocket, "So pay attention. . . Kirishima and. . ." After everyone had found their partners (some happier than others) she finally gave an answer to everyone's curiosity. "These fine men here are going to be escorting us to Yokohama so be respectful please, and listen to what they have to say."
Addressing the class the tallest took the lead, "Good morning students I hope you all have a pleasant trip to Yokohama. My name is Kunikida Doppo and I work for one of your host companies, the Armed Detective Agency, so you will be seeing a lot of me and Tanizaki here over the next fortnight.
Our other. . . companions are Hirotsu and Tachihara who are here as representative's for the other company, you will be training with some of their members as well. Thank you." He stepped back, bowed and nodded to Eraserhead.
"Get on board you lot, sitting next to your partner please. If we see anybody not following this there will be consequences when we get back and restrictions while we're there," he eyed a couple students who were looking especially guilty. "If your bags aren't already stowed away go do that now. Wait for your assigned partner if they need to do that."
A lot of shuffling later and Ochako was putting her luggage securely away with the help of Bakugo - who was her travel buddy without much complaint to her surprise - when Aizawa pulled her away much to Bakugo's obvious curiosity.
"I know that for you that this is the chance to meet Dazai, and potentially get permission to live with him, but you are not obligated, Dazai will understand as he is a virtual stranger to you. Okay?" He waited until he got a nod of agreement, "Good when we get there I will be checking in on you regularly during the trial run."
"Thank you Aizawa Sensei."
"I think Bakugo is waiting for you so go get on the bus now." He watched as she waved over to where said boy was waiting by the door, rather impatiently he might add, and they climbed on.
"Next stop Yokohama!" Midnight cheered loudly in his ear.
"We have to stop for the toilet and diesel on the way." All-Might reminded her.
She pouted at him, "Don't spoil the mood Toshinori-san!"
"Sorry."
Aizawa rubbed the crease between his eyebrows, this was going to be a long trip.
The estimated time, according to his phone, by bus was roughly 3 hours and 30 minutes, it might not seem like a long time in theory but being trapped in a metal container with 20 teenagers (one of whom was very perverted and needed an eye kept on him at all times) and two of his -what Aizawa believes to be- slightly unstable colleagues was decidedly not going to be fun.
Two pit stops later and his eyes were unusually heavy, he finally fell asleep just as the 5 black towers of Yokohama loomed in the distance.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
Unbeknownst to the sleeping class and teachers, green snow-like particles began to fall as their escorts became distorted and eventually revealed 3 of them standing in the aisle with gas masks on. Hirotsu was still dutifully driving - also wearing a mask.
Tachihara took his ventilator off and was the first to speak, hopping up and down on his heels, "About time! That's one helluv an ability, mate. You sure you don't wanna to join the PM? You'd make a great assassin."
"Yea. . . No. I'm happy on the right side of the law thanks. When will they wake up Kunikida-san?" Tanizaki stretched, tired from a prolonged use of his ability.
His fellow agency member also removed the mask adorning his face, "In about 15 minutes, we've got to go through their bags and take any devices that can record, like cameras or phones."
"We will be at your agency in 20 minutes so you better get a move on." Hirotsu called back.
"Already on it old man. Eyes on the road." Tachihara shouted, snatching Todoroki's backpack and started to comb through it with glee, "Do we get to keep the stuff we find?"
"No!" Kunikida snapped, glasses flashing. "Put them in this box. We're not stealing, you've got more than enough money with your job. Tanizaki keep an eye on him. I've got to let the rest of them know we're coming." He finished and trod off to one end of the coach, dialling a number on his phone.
"He's got a stick up his ass if I've ever seen one." Tachihara remarked pulling out Todoroki's phone, "Look at this! Its brand new, he's a rich kid, I'd bet my salary he's got daddy issues."
"He can be a bit strict," he admitted, "but it's not that bad, I'm not taking that bet," he said eyeing the scar. Then held up Midoriya's notebooks, "Do you think this counts?"
His companion looked up and squinted at it, "Not sure, chuck it in the box just in case, we can put it back later if it doesn't."
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
When Ochako awoke, the first thing she noticed was the strangely comfortable pillow her head was resting on.
The second thing she noticed was that her pillow was a shoulder. Bakugo's shoulder.
"AHH!"
"What is it pink cheeks?" he grumbled, glaring at her from under half-closed eyelids.
"Um-. . . nothing?" Had he been letting her sleep on him?
"OHMYGOD! WE'RE HERE!" Mina jumped up from her seat in front of the brunette, "We're in YOKHAMA!"
"Shut up raccoon-eyes!" Bakugo grumbled shifting slightly.
If the students around their most extroverted classmate weren't already awake, they were now.
"Woah! Look!" Came Kirishima's reply, the class dissolved into excited chatter.
"STUDENTS!" Midnight waited for silence, "We have officially arrived in Yokohama!" She cheered, grinning alongside the heroes-in-training, "Start gathering your things, when we get off the coach line up with your travel buddy to get your bags - no wandering off please! And listen to our chaperones."
Everyone filled off in a less than orderly manner, far too excited to care. Eyes shining at the new sights of the infamous quirkless city. Tachihara and All-might started sorting through the bags while Kunikida went to talk to a young lady with brown hair and glasses waiting for them holding a clipboard. Tanizaki disappeared somewhere inside the building they were parked in front of.
The lady with brown hair and glasses was introduced as Haruno, she is an office clerk and showed them to a building where they could leave their suitcases, "Each room can has 3 beds, this is where the boys will be staying and further down that corridor is where the girls will be. We haven't assigned you rooms as your teachers know you better than us, I will leave you to sort yourselves out and will be back in an hour for introductions." she left them with a pitying look for the teachers.
Aizawa stared at them blankly for a couple minutes. Accepting his fate. "Right, Midnight take Ashido, Hagakure, Jirou, Tsuyu, Uraraka, and Yaoyorozu, go get them settled, we will sort out this lot," he agonizingly stated with a pained face.
It didn't take long for the 6 girls to be sorted. Less than 10 seconds actually as Midnight just shrugged and left them to it. Ochako ended up in a room with Momo and Jirou, who claimed the top bunk immediately.

Tsukauchi had been suspicious of Tadashi from the moment the lawyer reached out. His reasoning just didn't sit right with the detective and because his quirk was quite literally lie detecting he had kept a close eye & ear out for anything especially unusual. His blatant refusal to say who this mysterious benefactor was and the slight fear in his eyes whenever they came up was reason enough in Tsukauchi's opinion to be at least a little bit suspicious.
So when he overheard Tadashi on the phone talking to the person who was most likely the person pulling the strings, he couldn't resist listening in even if it turned out to be innocent.
"There's a class trip to Yokohama,
. . .
Yes, her whole class are going. I believe the ADA are their hosts as the dem…Dazai has been named her guardian" The lawyer winced and pulled the phone away from his ear slightly, the loud crash that even the detective could hear from his vantage point was enough to garner pity. Tsukauchi had been on the receiving end of one too many of those.
"Um- I believe it was Kunikida Doppo and Tanizaki Jun'ichirō-
. . .
no- Sir he's the one with the illusion ability,
. . .
Yes the one who fought the BL commanders during the cannibalism events.
. . .
I'll see what I can do Sir. How much information do you want-
. . .
Yes Sir… you are sending a team?
. . .
Oh, yes, o-of course
. . .
When will they be arriving?
. . .
Yes, Goodbye Sir."
Tsukauchi watched as Tadashi waited for the person on the other side to hang up and then slammed the phone down sharply, exhaling loudly. Shaking.
"Right… right. Okay. Find them! That's a good place to start isn't it? Who they work for, would also be good, anything else of importance, track them, give the team information. That's all you have to do Kanja okay? Okay…"
Tsukauchi snuck away, this mysterious 'benefactor" was now narrowed down by about half the populace of Japan, it was also very likely that 'Sir' lived in Yokohama. Probably someone in power.
Two steps closer to lifting the veil.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
Back in Yokohama an executive slipped out of his apartment building and took off in the direction of the agency. Heavy eyebags adorned his face. Stress from this whole ordeal was starting to catch up to him. That and his lack of sleep as well as Arahabaki screeching at the top of their (his? it's?) non-existent lungs -though he was used to it- didn't help.
Usually he would be in his office by now sorting through the days paperwork, however, he'd had multiple missions -all at night- for the past week while also coming in as usual, to the point that the boss himself ordered his executive to take a couple days off. Today was one of those days off. Technically he should be using it to rest but that's a problem for his future self.
Scowling, he ducked into a back-alley, hood up. On days like these was when he was especially grateful for the labyrinth Yokohama kept hidden in it's shadows. If he were to be followed - and the mafioso would notice straight away if he was. He's not incompetent, tired or not loosing them would be like a piece of cake that he and the sheep used to drool over from the other side of the glass before being chased away.
Besides a certain someone had a lot of explaining to do.
Notes:
Looking back on my notes from the top it's really long so whoops?
I hope you enjoy next chap Dazai is gonna be appearing a lot more. The time it takes to get to Yokohama from Mutsutafu is an estimated guess off of the time it takes from Yokohama and the real city that Mutsutafu is believed to be based off of, I did edit it for the story a bit though as I wanted the journey to be at least a couple hours long
If I make any mistakes on the Japanese honorifics or anything please let me know and I'll correct it.
Comments have been giving me motivation and last time I check we were on 41 Kudos so thank you!
btw I've also started writing another fic but this one will probably be only 2-3 chapters and its basically what if Murase and N had another brother/family that after 6 years went to a private agency and *coincidentally* go to the ADA where *coincidentally* Dazai now works.

Chapter 4: Meetings
Notes:
Thanks for all the Kudos! They along with comments really help with my motivation so I really appreciate it.
I'M SO SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG, unfortunately I'm back to school (help T-T) so updates are going to be a bit slower. I'm aiming for one chapter every couple of months as but don't take my word for it.
Question do you prefer longer chapters? I personally do, even if they end up being less frequent.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
What Class 1A was decidedly not expecting to see during their introduction to the ADA, was a hooded stranger barging in halfway through, then immediately honing in on and attacking one of the workers at their desk (though he didn't seem to be doing much apart from bothering Kunikida). Which then lead to the two grown men leaping all over the office in an absurd game of cat & mouse, interrupting the budding friendship that had been blossoming between Kenji and Kirishima. They danced around the desks, chairs and each other with a practiced ease, calling out insults and dodging things they're opponent had thrown with physic-like intuition.
"How do you even know them?! And well enough that they'd trust you with her!" He demanded, grabbing a chair out of the air before it could hit anyone behind him, thrown by his partner (opponent?) moments earlier - all without batting an eye.
"Why don't we discuss this in a civilised manner Hatrack? Instead of knocking everything over in here."
"Civilised!?! Are you talking about us? When have we ever 'discussed' anything without ending in a shouting match? And speak for yourself I haven't knocked anything over! That's all you. As ungraceful as a fish out of water!"
This sparked the very shouting match that the hooded man had described. After what must have been an entire thesaurus of insults had been recited, the 'Fishy Bastard' was chased out of the building. He slammed the door open in a very similar manner to how his opponent (partner?) had minutes earlier and went thundering down the stairs, a 'Slug', ironically, hot on his tail. His steps were, surprisingly, near-silent.
Haruno seemed worryingly unfazed by this performance, merely turning around to the rather astonished group with an apologetic smile. "They…they'll be back later…when they stop arguing."
The group was left in a stunned silence. Was this…normal?!? 1A had their own particular brand of chaos much to Aizawa's resignation. This however was on a whole other level.
"The day they stop arguing," A young girl in a red kimono adorned with golden-yellow embroidery seemingly melted out of the shadows. Startling everyone. "Is the day pigs fly and Ranpo-san starts preferring vegetables over sweets."
"Kyouka-chan! I was wondering when you would be getting back. How was your tea date?"
"Good, Anee-san had chocolate cake." Clear blue eyes flickered over to the newcomers with a curious sheen, "Are they the Outsiders?"
"Mm," the clerk confirmed, "1A from UA." She shifted her attention to the class, "This Izumi Kyouka, she joined the agency not long ago and resides in the agency dorms with one of our more senior members due to unfortunate circumstances."
Haruno had an obvious affection for the place and it's members. Rightfully so, the space was very homely with its polished (but slightly scuffed) forest green tiled flooring. Off to the left was a small enclosed area with stained glass. Right at the edge of the room bathed in sunlight that filtered in from the large windows were several occupied and empty desks littered with paperwork, pens, pencils, and the like. It brought her comfort, even if she was itching to meet Dazai.
Uraraka was brought out of her musings when a young man with his feet propped up against his desk interrupted her day-dreaming. He wore brown trousers with a matching brown hat and inverness cape draped over his shoulders, underneath was an untucked white button up shirt covered by a dark grey waistcoat with a light blue striped tie.
"You," he said pointing straight at her.
"Uh…Me?"
"Yes you, bring me that box of mochi on the table to your…" He held his hands up in an L shape and frowned at them, "Left! Wait- no that's my left…right?…yes, right!"
A woman in her mid twenties appeared and leaned down, grabbing it before Ochako had a chance. Her dark, indigo hair was fashioned into a short bob with bangs and a golden butterfly hairpin clipped to the left side of her head held any stray strands out of her face. She was wearing a white button up shirt with slightly puffed up sleeves, a black flared skirt that dropped just below the knee, black tights, and dark red heeled pumps.
"Don't go ordering people about Ranpo, it's rude."
He huffed impatiently. "I blackmailed Atsushi into getting those for me. Just hand over the box Yosano," he whined. "I was gonna give her one."
"Yea right," she snorted, "You're not very well known for sharing. Even poor Poe doesn't get anything."
He folded his arms across his chest. "You got Kyouka last time. We had an agreement that the next one would be mine!"
"Oh my god," The woman whipped around eyes wide, "Is she Dazai's new orphan?" Whispers from her classmates could be heard in the background, "She is isn't she? You are absolutely adorable!"
"Exactly," Ranpo ripped open another bag of sweets, "Therefore I have to claim my spot as the favourite and her mentor immediately."
"Ranpo I'll buy you food for two months if you let me have her."
He considered this for a minute, "Five months."
"Three."
"Four."
"Three and a half." She relented.
"Deal." They shook hands, and Uraraka spied Yosano discreetly wiping her hand clear of crumbs afterwards.
"What the hell are you weirdo's on about?" Bakugo had apparently finally gotten to the end of his admittedly already short tether
"Bakugo." Midnight reprimanded.
"What?" He snapped grumpily.
"We are guests, treat our hosts with respect."
"She's right Baku-bro"
"Shut up numbskull."
"We're arguing cause she's being adopted into the agency." Ranpo supplied unhelpfully.
"Hold on," Yagi startled facing the master detective, "Young Uraraka is not being adopted into your agency."
"If all goes to plan she will be, actually. Speaking of where is Dazai?" Aizawa asked, sweeping the room.
All if not most present employees adverted their eyes. It was Ranpo who, again, finally gave them an answer, "Probably still arguing with mister fancy hat, when those two get started its worse than trying to separate two stray dogs from fighting." He said, munching through his mouthful of mochi.
"Uh…"
"Anyway!" Yosano clapped her hands, "If you ever need a break from the dramatic drama queen you can find me over there in the infirmary." She winked at Uraraka and pointed to the door just down the corridor.
"Thank you…Yosano-sensei?"
"Oh, I haven't introduced myself! Yosano Akiko, the agency's doctor." Her eyes swivelled to the others present, "as for the rest of you, come to me if you get injured." She grinned maniacally, "I'll enjoy stitching you up. . .what are your pain tolerances like?"
The class and it's teachers shivered involuntarily, shuffling away not-so-discreetly while the doctor resumed her fawning over their gravity manipulator.
That was until a pretty dark-haired girl cut through, "Excuse me?" she said smiling up at Midnight.
"Yes sweetheart?"
Ranpo snapped his head around to interrupt. "Naomi-chan tell the President Atsushi and the PM's rabid dog should be arriving back soon."
"Will do Ranpo-san." She turned to address the outsiders. "My Name is Tanizaki Naomi, just Naomi please, I am Haruno-san's work partner. The president wishes to meet your chaperones in his office, the rest of you can can make yourselves comfortable." The heroes snapped to attention, "If you don't mind following me? This way please."
Naomi lead All-might, Aizawa and Midnight around the corner out of sight. Though not after a glare and "Behave." From Eraser.
The class dispersed into their groups, and all the girls gathered round to greet the former assassin. Mina excitedly initiating a mostly one-sided conversation.
"Hey! You and Jirou have the same name!" The Jirou in question just sighed and allowed herself to be dragged to the front.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
It was safe to say that Toshinori was not an easy person to intimidate. Being the former No.1 Hero for well over 40 years and the symbol of peace for at least half of that. Though as much as he wanted to he couldn't deny the shiver of anxiety that clenched around his heart when Fukazawa's eyes examined him. A surprise to even himself, fear had become a mostly foreign concept during his reign as a wielder. He could tell that Midnight and Eraserhead had been similarly affected.
There was something else there as well. Recognition, or maybe familiarity. Fukazawa Yukichi's eyes held the unique sorrow often found in the eyes of soldiers. He'd seen the horrors humanity had to offer and come out the other side. He was a survivor. The hero had the strange sense that it would be a common sight here, in fact he'd already found it in the doctor and young Kyouka's eyes.
Midnight was the first to recover speak. "Th-thank you for hosting us here in Yokohama, we are…grateful! Very, very grateful for this opportunity."
The Presidents eyes only sharpened, "It is not me you have to thank, Dazai pulled in a quite few favours in for Uraraka."
An awkward silence blanketed the room. None of the teachers completely sure how to answer that, and it seemed Fukuazawa wasn't expecting one.
"Outside of Yokohama," He started, gazing into his beverage, "You are 'Heroes' and fight 'Villains' for the safety of the citizens."
Yagi puffed out his chest in pride. "Yes, we're-"
"Here you are tourists." His cup met the saucer with a sharp chink, "Any quirk usage at all -apart from training- has been strictly forbidden."
All three Heroes gaped at him. "What?"
"The more mutated ones of your group should cover up a bit, it's Autumn now so they won't stand out as much."
"Hold on," All might started indignantly, "You can't possibly be serious."
"Deadly serious. There are few quirked users here, and the ones here do not have your...concerning views, the public and its organisations would it rather stay that way."
"But-"
Aizawa hurriedly interrupted his colleague. "Of course, thank you for allowing us to stay." The conditions were…reasonable, for a quirkless city at least. He wasn't going to argue and risk the extremely fragile alliance holding this all in place for Uraraka.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
The scene Aizawa and his colleagues returned to was not outside of the realm of possibility. It was however highly unusual. During their unsupervised time 1A had not done a whole lot. What they had accomplished, or more accurately discovered was the absence of their devices. Naturally, mass panic struck.
Kaminari had been the first to notice, shouting out in alarm when he couldn't find his oh so precious phone. Now he was crying into the shoulder of a distressed Kirishima, less than a meter away was Mina and Toru who were wailing about their streaks, clinging onto an unimpressed Jirou (who'd also had a mini panic about being unable to listen to music for two weeks but had found her iPod so was now just absolutely done with the entire situation).
Sero for some reason had started handing out his tape to be used as tissues - evidently not realising the catastrophe that would cause. The day before he'd been testing how adhesive he could make his tape and had forgotten to tone it back down afterwards. Mineta and Aoyama had also not processed that they were using tape and were now desperately trying to get several pieces of the stuff off of their faces to no avail. Ojiro was also a victim of this but hadn't gotten that far, he'd taken one piece per limb and was now desperately trying to peel it off each hand.
On the opposite side of the spectrum Koda was anxiously biting his nails next to a ruffled Tokoyami who kept muttering about the 'darkness swallowing the light of civilization' and 'falling back on old-fashioned paper in times of need'.
Bakugo for potentially the first time in his life was speechless, he was used to the chaos of his fellow classmates but the hero-in-training was usually a source of the havoc and hadn't had the honour of being on the outside of it. To his right stood Ochako, holding her very outdated phone with wide eyed bewilderment. Aizawa - for the eightieth time that day - sighed.
"Sensei! Our phones have gone missing!" Iida screeched.
"I don't think there is anyone in the world who could have missed that Iida."
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
Trailing around the slums behind a disgruntled Akutagawa looking for Dazai's object (building) of interest, was needless to say, not his favourite hobby.
Not that it wasn't important, but the building -once they'd located it was almost certainly abandoned. The entire building was desolate, the locals including wildlife (not that there was much) avoided the place like the plague.
Even Akutagawa looked unimpressed, taking the occasional jab at Atsushi to 'make sure he stayed aware' and just for the fun of it.
Plants. Green, well-looked after and obviously not dead. Which meant someone was frequenting it often enough to water them. Why he had no idea, but they were at least not going back empty handed. It was then that he realised his 'partner' was no longer with him.
"JINKO!"
"WHAT?"
"GET OVER HERE!"
The sound of the mafioso's voice lead him to a door tucked in the corner, mostly concealed by a bookcase. Broken electronic lock sparking.
It was dark (the light switch had apparently not been found). This room was drastically different to the others they had examined, it had clinically white tiled flooring (dark grey in the lighting), white tiled ceiling, and white plastered walls - not dissimilar to a hospital. Piles upon piles of pure paperwork lay unorganised in a heap on the tables.
Akutagawa stood inside, pale as the walls, staring at something outside of Atsushi's line of sight. He cautiously joined him, and turned his head in the direction of Akutagawa's unwavering gaze. What greeted him when his eyes finally adjusted to the light was… horrifying.
…
"What. The. Actual. Fuck?"
Notes:
I know in canon Kyouka lives with Atsushi but I think it would make more sense to have her rooming with Yosano instead, mainly cause she is an adult and more suited to being Kyouka's guardian.
I know I am making quite a few changes to minor parts of canon but y'know. It makes more sense.Do let me know if you've spotted any mistakes, I will do my best to go back and fix them.
I hope you enjoyed!
