Chapter Text

Five minutes and twenty seven seconds.

It took five minutes and twenty seven seconds for Sonic's three sentence long social media post to get on national news.

What could have possibly been said? Something scandalous? Something controversial? Something that ruffled the feathers of many across the globe?

“catching feelings is such a joke. i’m just eating chili dogs why are they in my head. this is chili dog time, stay in your lane”

The Internet could've rivaled Sonic's speed with how fast they took this post and ran. Every single lifeform the hero had interacted with had been taken into consideration. Even those who weren't fans of the blue blur were curious about who the celebrity’s affections belonged to. Articles were written in record time, and internet servers crashed with the stress the ensuing discord put on the system.

Sonic was well aware of the impact of his vague wording, if his next post had anything to say.

“yall ate that up omg. to everyone saying they wanna hear more. . . you just gotta be patient ;)”

And patient they were, albeit very reluctantly.

The first time the hedgehog had shown his face after making that post was two weeks later, after another scandal by the Doctor successfully demolished. When questioned, he denied everything with a sly smile on his muzzle, it was clear the public would only be given information through their screens and not from his lips.

The patient were rewarded one week later, with a screenshot posted to the hero's social media. The names, profile photo and even timestamps were excluded, no other details other than the text shared were shown. The caption to the photo was a simple “peak romance <3” from Sonic.

Every pixel was analyzed thoroughly and with much much more attention than necessary. Four internet servers were lost that day, and many more crashed.

The hype died down after a few weeks, and now all the public had to do was wait for more breadcrumbs.

"my type is someone who can keep up with me lol... or at least thinks they can :)”

Last night, the social post above was written by our favorite hero, Sonic the Hedgehog, and I'm about to tell you why it's a big deal.

Four months ago, Sonic the Hedgehog made a social media post indicating that he had “caught feelings” for an individual, though he was purposely vague. Since then, over several weeks, the only mention of the hero’s lover was a screenshot of a text exchange that you can see below.

Of course, everyone has their theories and speculations, so let's go over the three most popular hypotheses.

Amy Rose

This topic has been talked about over and over, so I'm not going to keep beating a dead horse and keep this short. Whenever our hero's love life is a topic of discussion, Amy Rose is a name that gets brought up faster than the blue blur himself. It's no secret how she literally and figuratively throws herself at Sonic, could it be that Sonic had returned her affections this whole time?

Rouge the Bat

Rouge is a name not quite commonly heard when discussing possible partners for the Hero of Mobius, but you'd be surprised with how much evidence of a potential bond you'd find if you looked.

Only recently, this security camera footage from a small restaurant called Meh Burger was leaked. Unfortunately, no audio is available, but the footage clearly showed only Rouge and Sonic sharing a meal together. Could this have been a secret relationship this whole time? What would happen if our hero did end up running around with a known thief? Unfortunately, due to the bat’s secretive nature, we may never know.

Knuckles the Echidna

I know, I was shocked as well when I noticed Knuckles was the third most mentioned potential partner. The reason he is on this list is because many fans noticed which pronouns Sonic used when discussing his lover: they/them. As far as we know, no one in Sonic's close circle goes by those pronouns, so it's allegedly believed that the hedgehog is using them to hide the gender of his lover because he is male. Why Knuckles? Why, he's one of Sonic's oldest friends, is it really hard to believe some feelings might not get picked up along the way?

That's all speculation, however. In reality, we haven't got the slightest clue who stole our hero's heart. Only time may tell.

The Sonic's mystery lover saga continues, with a new addition to the cast!

To refresh your memory, because it has been a while, the last time our hero stopped being hush-hush about his beloved was three months ago. Many, many reporters dashed to the speedster’s close circle for juicy details, but they were all tight lipped about the situation.

Until today.

Two hours ago, not only did Sonic throw us a breadcrumb, so did the boy genius himself, Miles “Tails” Prower.

This exchange gives us two pieces of information to work with. One, the kit is aware and familiar with Sonic's partner. Two, their relationship status. They're still at the dating stage, but it must seem pretty serious if Sonic is willing to tell the general public about his little secret.

Fans have been flooding the kit’s social media about his adoptive brother's partner, but no words about the stranger were spoken after that post. In fact, he seems to be ignoring them all together, raising the tension further.

Speculation of the identity of said partner is still largely the same, because no new information was given to us from the post above.

Unfortunately, the usually loud and brash hero is pretty good at keeping a secret when he wants to, so this article is shorter than we'd like to be. We'll see you again the next time we get crumbs thrown our way.

What is true love? Is it when you're both drinking the same milkshake from two different straws? Is it that fluttering feeling in your chest as you see your special person? Is it the urge to care and spend time with the one you adore?

Well, according to Sonic The Hedgehog. . .

true love is when they threaten you to a fist fight. wdym you can't wait to get your hands on me??

Yes, friends, our hero has graced us, after two weeks, with another potential hint about his secret relationship.

This particular post stirred up some drama this time around. Thousands of fans that were hellbent on believing that Amy or Rouge had Sonic's interest are switching to Knuckles’ side, others are adding more names to the list of suspects.

Sonic has tussled with many foes and friends before, so taking into account every fight he's been in is near impossible, but the Internet is both crazy and determined. Our updated list, from most popular to least least popular potential partners, goes as so:

1. Knuckles the Echidna
2. Amy Rose
3. Rouge the Bat
4. Jet the Hawk
5. Blaze the Cat

Despite having little to no information, others have begun to show concern at the implications of violence in the social media post, stating that the relationship Sonic is in cannot be healthy if it started (or, as the post implies, continues) with violent interactions. Sonic has yet to respond to these concerns.

After being starved for two and a half months, fans are finally being fed their once in a lifetime snip of Sonic's love life. This time, straight from one of his dates!

In case you're unaware, because it has been too long, nearly ten months ago, popular hero and celebrity Sonic the Hedgehog made a social media post hinting he may have a potential partner. Ever since then, the only indication of this mysterious lover was a handful of vague posts scattered over nearly a year.

The newest hint of the hero's relationship was shared with us this morning, as shown below.

As far as we know, the only one in Sonic's close circle that has any alternative tastes is Rouge. She also doesn't hide the fact that she shops at the store mentioned above, which moves her name further up our list.

However, a keen eyed fan and Hot Topic shopper took a look at a recent sighting of Shadow the Hedgehog and noticed a familiar (to her) bracelet on his wrist, and reverse searching determined it was indeed from the store. Many people rejected the idea of Shadow being involved with our hero in that way, but many also added Shadow’s name to the potential candidate list.

Now the majority of the public is divided into three main groups, for the three main suspects: Amy, Rouge and Shadow.

You've probably heard of the phrase ”love is a battlefield”, but have you ever heard of “love on the battlefield”?

The second phrase seems to apply to Sonic the Hedgehog, if his latest post about his secret partner says anything.

We've gotten one major hint with this post: whoever our hero is dating is part of Team Sonic. This takes Jet the Hawk, Blaze the Cat, Rouge the Bat, Knuckles the Echidna (because of the gloves) and Shadow off our list. Our main suspect, again, is now Amy Rose.

Unfortunately for us, the image above is again perfectly cropped, not a single strand of identifying fur, feathers or scale is visible. No one so far is able to make out any details from the stranger's hand except for the fact it's a leather glove.

Another important fact to add is the timing of this post. At first, Sonic would wait months to drop a hint for us. Recently, it's been weeks. However, in this instance, this post was only given to us two days after his last one. Could it be that our hero is getting as impatient as us now? Will we be gaining more clues closer together from now on? We can only hope so.

We got two clues in one day today, folks!

To briefly recap: ten days ago, Sonic the Hedgehog posted the first sneak peek of his secret lover, holding hands as they stood proud in front of hundreds of badniks and a decimated Eggman base.

That was the day the rumors of Sonic's partner being imaginary, non-existent or Knuckles stopped, due to the fact that was the only time we were given photo evidence of this mysterious partner and the fact that the echidna’s hands do not line up with the one in the photo.

Until today (regarding the first argument).

The first clue we received earlier today was the hero posting a selfie of himself, showing off his stylish new windbreaker, but many fans noticed a not so subtle detail in the photo.

Yes, you see that wandering hand correctly (quite the grip, I might add). Again and unfortunately, many rounds of thoroughly inspecting the image has led us to yet another dead end.

Our second clue is, yet again, another text post.

There are very few friends Sonic has interacted with that fit the description of “dark and mysterious”, and even less so that are currently in Central City where Sonic is. Due to their proximity, we have two suspects now: Espio the Chameleon and Rouge the Bat.

Shadow inhaled quickly, his elbow leaning against the leather armrest of their well loved couch. Flipping the page of his book, he tried to ignore the lingering aroma of burnt cheese wafting through his and Sonic's living room. Said blue bastard was laying his head on Shadow's lap, his azure quills poking his stomach. Shadow lay his book on the side of Sonic's head as the other scrolled on his phone.

A soft laugh interpreted his reading, and Shadow curiously looked over his book at the screen in Sonic's hands. Reading only a few lines, he instantly understood what caused that sweet sound.

“You're having too much fun with that.”

“I know. It's hilarious, though.” Sonic snorted. “They think it's Blaze now.”

“She hasn't visited in months.”

“I know, right?” Sonic returned to scrolling. “Oh, nevermind. I missed an update.” Sonic clicked on a new article, and muttered under his breath. “New drip. . . dark ‘n mysterious. . . They think it's either Espio or Rouge.”

“Espio?”

“I guess he does fit the mysterious bit.”

“True.”

Shadow placed a hand on Sonic's shoulder, dragging it down to his elbow and repeating the motion over and over. The comfortable silence returned, then was broken a few minutes later with another laugh from Sonic. "People are so creative with their slurs." Shadow's hand stopped and Sonic realized his mistake. “Shads, I'm fine.”

“That's not something someone ‘fine’ would say.”

“All attention is good attention.”

“That's definitely not something someone ‘fine’ would say.”

“Nevermind, forget I said-”

Sonic was interrupted by his own ringtone, and an image of Vector’s profile photo on the screen. He sat up properly, leaving the space he occupied on Shadow's lap uncomfortably cold. The blue hedgehog answered the call, pressing his phone against the side of his face.

“Hey, bossman, what's up?” Sonic asked, smiling. “Uh, yeah, I'm aware.” He tapped his fingers against the couch. “They've. . . Oh.” Sonic stood up, unable to sit still, and began walking in circles around the room. “Yeah, I will. Of course. I'm really sorry to all of you and I promise I won't let this happen again.” Sonic was now frowning, and Shadow despised the sight. “Yeah, see ya later. Sorry again.” He hung up.

“What happened?” Shadow asked.

“We were just talking about it, actually. People have been spamming the Chaotix number because they think Espio's my boyfriend.” Sonic sat back down beside his actual partner, and Shadow held the side of his head and gently pushed it back into his lap. The cool feeling on his legs vanished as Sonic assumed his previous position. “Sometimes I forget how insane people are.”

“You fight a crazed maniac who wants to take over the world every week.”

He snorted. “I guess you're right.” Sonic then sighed, opening his social media. “If posting something could start such a reaction, posting something should stop it, too. . ."

Unfortunately, folks, it seems Sonic's mystery lover saga is coming to a halt.

Quite a number of fans that suspected Espio of stealing our dear hero's heart had continually called his workplace demanding answers on the situation. Sonic had caught wind of this fact and published the post below as a result.

“This is addressed to the select few of you that harassed my friend at his workplace because of silly rumors. I understand you're curious about what I've been telling you, but that's no reason to inconvenience others about it. This was intended to be a silly little guessing game with you guys, but it's clear a few of you have taken it too far.

For the foreseeable future, or until my friends get genuine apologies, I will not be talking about or referencing my partner any longer. I'm sorry for those of you who were genuinely curious and well mannered, but I will not be risking my friends’ peace for this guessing game. Please do not harass those who this is addressed to, the point of this post is to stop the harassment tied to this situation altogether.”

It seems Sonic is set on his choice, and talk of his mystery companion will come to a halt. It's a shame it only took a few bad apples to spoil the fun, but many are supportive of the hero's response and decision to halt this little game. A small percentage are upset, but we're quickly shut down by the majority.

Our beloved blue hero has returned to posting about his lover! Unfortunately, folks, I believe we've truly reached the end of Sonic the Hedgehog’s mystery lover saga.

Half an hour ago, the blue blur posted an image on social media of his meal at a high end restaurant. However, his meal wasn't the only one on the table.

Could this be it? After nearly a year of waiting, is this the finale we were yearning for?

Unfortunately, the answer is no.

Rouge, along with Amy and Blaze, are now officially off the list, and we have uncovered a new detail about Sonic's partner, his gender.

The population is split about this new piece of information. The majority of people are supportive of the hero's identity, few are indifferent and lots of others are extremely upset about this development. Within less than an hour, the follower count for the hero's social media has gone down one fifth, and seems to only continue. Nasty messages are being left on unrelated posts from the hero, and many hundreds of headlines have already been released. However, the majority of the population views this as a positive.

Sonic has not responded to the homophobia as of right now, but we'll keep you updated.

With the new John Wick 5 coming to theaters soon, fans of the iconic franchise have been on the edge of their seats for this new action packed film to release.

Especially Sonic the Hedgehog.

Safe to assume, our beloved hero is looking forward to this film. His personal circle had even commented on this behavior.

"If you think this is bad," Rouge the bat mused on a social media post. "it's even worse in DMs. This man talks about Keanu like Caseoh talks about Chris Redfield."

Fans of the blue blur has brought up a series of posts Sonic has made a few months prior, indicating he has a partner. Those posts had unfortunately dwindled into nothing as fans began to harass certain "suspects" for answers, but could this be what brings the hero's partner out of hiding? Could we finally get a return of the game Sonic had set up with his followers?

The answer is yes. Less than an hour after those series of posts, Sonic posted a lone screenshot.

Unfortunately for us, names are censored from this conversation, but that doesn't stop people from speculation. Many suspect Amy to be the mutual friend in question, because of her proximity to Sonic and kind nature to everyone around her. That kind nature also leaves a lot of options open to who Sonic's partner is, so we've reached another dead end. Others disagree due to the censored text being five letters long, not three.

Big day, folks. We've gotten the clearest image of Sonic's lover to date.

Six hours ago, a post was made by the blue blur while his mysterious partner took a nap.

I can't feel my legs but he's slept through an earthquake once so I'm stuck

Many believed they've found out the mystery man's fur color by looking at the fur sticking out of his helmet, but the general public soon changed their mind when realizing such dark fur was physically impossible for a mobian.

Now we are searching for anyone in Sonic's circle who dyes their fur. Or, it's a possibility their fur was dyed only for the sake of this photo.

Additionally, fans have found out the helmet is a Icon Airflite Ultrabolt Motorcycle Helmet (Mobian Addition) with a custom red visor, though that helps very little in our search.

What does help us, however, is based of camera angles and pixel measurements, we now know Sonic's partner is 3 foot 3 inches. The exact average height for most mobians, but still a step in the right direction.

Tonight, we dine like monarchs, because Sonic The Hedgehog has blessed us with multiple screenshots relating to his mysterious relationship for us to overanalyze.

Sonic's mother is also rarely mentioned by the blue blur. In a previous interview, when questioned about his family, he stated the following, "She doesn't really like attention all that much. I wouldn't want to disturb her quiet life with paparazzi." This was the first and last mention of the woman. So could this brief mention of her mean the blue hero has something else in store for us? This also isn't the only screenshot to bring her up.

Fans have been awfully curious about the biohazard symbol beside the censored six digit contact name, but no one has yet to find a connection between the symbol and anyone in Sonic's circle.

Seeing as Sonic nicknamed his mother, many do not believe the contact name is what this mysterious lover is actually called. Others say it is, because if it wasn't, why would it be censored?

Many fans are wondering what Sonic's mother could be worried about here, her son or his partner? It's unclear which is the case, but mothers on social media are already compiling a list of what they would not find savory in a child's future partner, and are comparing the list to characteristics Sonic's friends have.

It seems Ms. Hedgehog has gotten over her worry if the second photo has anything to say.

As beloved as our hero is, blunders do still happen. Though, no one we know of has been this critical of Sonic before. Many notices the dismissive and unattached behavior from "space boy" and voiced their concerns. This was Sonic's response.

We all know Sonic loves the thrill, could this extend to his dating life as well. An ex of Sonic's, Jet the Hawk, boastfully stated that he could give Sonic a run for his money on his Extreme Gear. Sonic himself stated that short lived relationship "kept me on my toes, in a good way." It's entirely possible Sonic could be an intentional danger magnet for the thrill of it.

The social media post above was made by Sonic the Hedgehog yesterday, and it could be a clue to figuring out who his mysterious partner is.

We on Mobias are no stranger to alien encounters, the most notable being the Black Arms invasion of 2005. However, that's not what we're going to focus on today.

Sonic's post implied being romantic and/or sexual attraction to an alien species, and since the Black Arms have been banished from this planet, the next contender are the Babylonians. The Babylonians are a common race on earth that hailed from the stars, so it's entirely possible Sonic has encountered several of them.

Additionally, famous Extreme Gear racer Jet the Hawk is both Babylonian and one of Sonic's ex-lovers. Could this be a case of an old flame being reignited?

Going back to an ex is not an uncommon practice, and with the CrossWorlds Grand Prix taking place soon, it could be the first time in years the old racing duo will be seen together in public. The perfect time to announce a relationship to the masses.

It's a big day for both metal music fans and Sonic fans alike, because we just got the best of both worlds!

Earlier tonight, in the dead center of the famous band Underground's global tour, a surprise singer made his way on stage and wooed the crowd with his unexpected musical talent and singing voice.

See that glint of gold on his left hand? Could it be true? Did our free spirited hero finally get tied down?

When interviewed by reporter Scarlett Garseaa about the ring during the after performance meet-and-greet, Sonic had this to say. Transcription below.

Scarlett: Fans have been screaming about this as soon as you walked up on stage, is that a wedding ring on your finger?

Sonic: Nope.

Scarlett: Engagement ring, then?

Sonic: Not that either.

Scarlett: Then what is it? Surely, you know about the tradition of putting a ring on your left ring finger.

Sonic (looking at the camera): Y'all are smart, you can find out.

We leave with more questions than answers. That is all our beloved hero had said about the ring so far, even his social media has been devoid of any mention of jewelry.
