Be Still

Summary:

Excerpts:

[Sometimes sitting still is the hardest thing ever Yoongi thinks, swinging his legs….in some cause and effect way it's Minnie's fault he even has to sit here in this itchy suit in the first place so he doesn't care]

Chaos, tears, feathers and glitter. All things that can be found in the Kim household on any given day at any given time.

Or…

The twins have an important ballet recital but Yoongi can’t sit still long enough for things to go smoothly.

Notes:

Parents Namjoon and Seokjin are adults
Yoongi is 8
Hoseok is 6
Jimin and Tae are 4
Jungkook is 2

I wanted to write a little snippet of how Yoongi’s adhd affects him sometimes. Growing up neurodivergent is not all fun and game, unfortunately.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It's not often that the family goes out all together. Then again, there are only a few reasons for them to even go out together.

When it was just him, Hobi, Appa and Daddy they would go out everywhere together as a family. They even had a smaller car which Yoongi can barely remember but he knows they did because he remembers not having to crawl over the seat to get in like he does now. He doesn't mind it too much, though. Now that he's a big kid it's much easier, especially since he doesn't have to wait for Appa or Daddy to lift him into the car like all the others do. Hobi tries to crawl in on his own, but he's just a little too short and is scared of heights, even though the car isn't that high off the ground in Yoongi's opinion.

When the twins came along they got the new car which Yoongi was initially very upset about, according to daddy who'd said he'd kick and scream every time they had to put him in there. Eventually he had gotten used to it and excited even about having the back seat all to himself. Hobi had been too scared to join him and instead had his car seat in between the twins'.

When Jungkook came along Hobi wasn't afraid of the back seat anymore and was just happy to be closer to Yoongi. For a while one of the twins would have to sit in between them, the car seats being too big and bulky to all be in the middle row. It was usually Taehyung, who was much less fussy than Minnie during that time period.

After they had all graduated to different, slimmer car seats, Yoongi to his booster seat, Hobi to a booster seat with back and head protection, the twins to upright front facing car seats, and Jungkook to an upright rear facing seat, it was the three youngest in the middle row and just Yoongi and Hobi in the backseat. Yoongi likes it like this and hopes they don't ever have to change it again.

Daddy is almost always the one to take them to school in the morning, Appa staying home with Jungkook, except when Daddy has a meeting at work that requires him to go in early which is rare.

Appa used to go out more, Yoongi can distantly recall him getting dressed up all fancy to meet with some friends sometimes with Daddy and sometimes without. He also remembers Appa being the one to go out and get the groceries, once the twins came along and only a few times after Jungkook's arrival. He remembers being excited to go along and help Appa measure the fruits and veggies and being able to secretly pick out one extra snack. Appa would always grab something for the others too, of course.

Now Appa and Jungkook hardly ever go out anymore. Yoongi doesn't really know why and doesn't know how to ask so he just keeps quiet about it. Sometimes it just feels better to keep quiet about things, Yoongi has realized as he gets older. It's kind of like when someone has a funky haircut or a booger on their nose, you don't always have to point it out, Daddy had explained to Yoongi when he was 6. He supposed Minnie and Hobi were still learning that though because they would always point out things like that.

Aside from routine school pick ups and drop offs, the only other time they'd go out as a family was for doctors appointments, trips to the park, and Yoongi's basketball games when it was in season. Yoongi would often ride along with Daddy for other outings too.

Tonight was a very special night for Minnie and that meant the whole family was going out. One night a few weeks ago Daddy had announced that Minnie was going to be the star of the next ballet recital and that he had a grand solo dance and they had Minnie's favorite food for dinner that night to celebrate. Yoongi had no idea what that really meant if he was being honest but Appa and Daddy seemed very happy and excited about it so it must've been good news.

Now Appa and Daddy were flurrying around trying to get everyone dressed up in their fanciest clothes and shoes. Yoongi had gotten himself dressed pretty easily per usual. Fancy clothes have a lot of buttons though so he'd needed daddy's help getting his shirt and vest on. Appa had put some sticky gel in his hair that smelled like oranges and brushed it all back nicely. His suit was quite itchy and his hair too sticky but Yoongi thought he looked like a grown up in the mirror once he was all dressed, so he supposed he could deal with it for now. Appa had instructed him to wait in the living room and begged him not to touch his hair or his suit so Yoongi was doing just that. He could tell Appa was kind of nervous about something so he didn't want to ruin anything and upset him even more. Yoongi was a big kid, surely he could sit still for a few minutes.

After that Daddy was given the task of getting the twins dressed while Appa would handle Hobi who was already refusing to wear his suit and Jungkookie who was luckily sleeping soundly right now.

Minnie and Tae were both in ballet but Tae never really participated in any of the practices or recitals. Daddy and Appa always made sure he wore his uniform, black stockings and a white t-shirt and always took him to the events, saying something about him always having the option to join. Yoongi didn't think Tae liked ballet at all until one day when he'd come down with a fever and Appa had made him stay home from ballet practice. Tae had thrown a massive fit of screaming and crying, fighting to follow Minnie and Daddy out the door. Yoongi had felt sorry for him then and realized that he actually did enjoy ballet even if he never joined in with the other kids and just stayed by daddy's side the whole time. He did always go backstage with Minnie for recitals though and Daddy had suspected it was because he liked being doted on by all of the recital staff and the older ballerinas and that he had really bad stage fright, whatever that meant.

Daddy gets him dressed without much of a struggle. Tae is a quiet, calm kid for the most part, not resisting against anything these days. He only ever really put up a fuss when it was time to have his hair brushed, hence the messy state of it. Once Tae is in his uniform, Daddy helps him get his ballet shoes on and then kisses his forehead, telling him how handsome he is. Tae smiles big, always happy to be praised, and then Minnie comes running through with a giddy smile in just his underpants with his outfit barely contained in his little arms. It's a mess of feathers, glitter, sequins, and ruffles all white and Yoongi can't see how he'll be able to put it on, much less fit into his car seat with it on.

Daddy takes the costume from Minnie, carefully holding it up with a puzzled look on his face. Apparently it was very very expensive, according to Appa but yoongi thought it looked like one of his forgotten kindergarten projects. Some of the feathers flutter out into the air, a few landing on Taehyung's head and he just watches in awe. It's Minnie who instructs him to have a seat next to Yoongi with the authority of a grown up aside from his lisp and his high pitched voice that gives his true age away. He reminds Yoongi a lot of Appa in some ways. They both are always telling everyone what to do, especially Daddy. Of course Tae obeys, quietly scrambling up onto the couch next to Yoongi as Minnie hops into his place in front of Daddy who is still trying to figure out the costume.

Yoongi realizes Tae is staring at him, eyes wide like he's waiting for something. He always looks like that, like he has a question or like he has something to say but he hardly ever talks. Yoongi asks any way, giving him a humored "what?" Of course Tae doesn't say anything, just gives him a silly smile and snuggles up against him and Yoongi is glad he doesn't have gel in his hair yet or else his suit would be ruined by now. He doesn't mind having Tae snuggling up against him though, thinks he's kind of cute like a puppy.

" 'dis first!" Minnie nearly shouts, snatching the tutu and other garments out of Daddy’s hands and holding up his white tights. Daddy tells him to watch his tone but takes the tights anyway, holding them low so Minnie can step into them. After that Minnie hands him a white long sleeve glittery leotard that Yoongi thinks looks like a ridiculously shiny baby's outfit, but he doesn't dare say anything about it. Daddy even has to snap some buttons at the bottom like a baby's outfit. Then Minnie grabs the big feathery, sequin tutu, dropping it to the ground and holding on to daddy's arms to keep his balance as he steps into it. Daddy pulls it up for him, nearly making him topple over, which of course gets him a dramatic yelp. Minnie explains in some mix of gibberish that he can't wear his shoes right now because they'll get all dirty if he walks in them and Daddy just agrees, because it's best to just let him do what he wants sometimes.

"Tae Tae dance?" He asks, crawling up on the couch next to Taehyung who shakes his head no, finally sitting up from nuzzling Yoongi’s arm and side. Minnie asks a whiny 'why' but Tae doesn't answer, seems too busy picking at the feathers on Minnie's tutu to bother. Moments later Jungkook cries out and Daddy rushes into the room, yelling "got it!" in a booming voice that makes all three of them jump in surprise.

"Thanks" Appa yells back from Hobi’s room. Yoongi wonders if he's gotten Hobi into his suit yet. He wants to go investigate but he doesn't want to disobey Appa so he stays seated, itching to get up. He supposes if Minnie and Tae can sit still and wait he should be able to do so also but he can't help but wiggle around, humming and bouncing in his seat and fidgeting with the buttons on each of his sleeves.

Sometimes sitting still is the hardest thing ever Yoongi thinks, swinging his legs, heels thudding against the couch as he waits for appa or daddy to ask for his help. His body starts feeling a little tingly and tired if he doesn't move around at least a little bit. His suit isn’t helping his case either.

"Yoon'i stop kickin!" Minnie fusses, pointing a small finger at Yoonig’s feet. Tae looks over at him too, nearly falling off the couch as he leans over to see yoongi's feet. Minnie pulls him back upright by his shoulder without a word, eyes still on Yoongi.

"You have to call me hyung. It's ‘yoongi hyung’. because I'm older than you" Yoongi says back, folding his arms and swinging his feet a bit faster just to bother Minnie because he doesn’t like being bossed around by him. The twins are still learning their honorifics but Yoongi knows that Jimin knows to call him hyung.

"I not have say 'yung 'cus you not a boss me!" Minnie says, poorly folding his arms as he tries to copy Yoongi.

"I am the boss of you because daddy and appa aren't here and I'm the oldest so you and Tae have to listen to me. And you still have to say hyung because I’m older than you." Yoongi replies, feeling himself getting annoyed.

At the news of Yoongi being the boss, Tae cheers with a happy little squeaky noise and gets up onto his knees, crawling closer to Yoongi. Yoongi's not sure what he's trying to do but the sudden proximity makes him flinch as Tae grabs onto one of his shoulders. Tae is really clumsy and you can never know what to expect from him and sometimes he’s a bit wreckless with his limbs. Minnie looks offended at Tae choice to move closer to yoongi, maybe he sees it as Tae taking Yoongi’s side.

"Tae sit you butt or you fall and get owie!" He scolds, pulling the tail of his shirt in attempt to make him sit. Tae’s smile falters at the sharp, scolding tone but he obeys, clumsily trying sit back down.

"No, Tae you can sit how you want! I'm the boss, remember? You only have to listen to hyung." And Tae is back to kneeling on the couch pillow beside Yoongi with his goofy smile. Yoongi won't admit it right now but Tae is actually a bit too unstable, trying to keep his balance with a handful of Yoongi's suit sleeve. He just has to show Minnie who's in charge right now and then he'll get tae to sit properly.

"You not boss! Tae! Listen me! Sit you butt or I tell daddy, appa on you. and I tell on yoongi kick couch" Minnie yells and Tae obeys quickly, looking at Yoongi with wide, expectant eyes. Yoongi honestly doesn’t know what to say to that but he can’t let Minnie win this one.

"So! I don't care if you tell because you still talk like a baby so you can't be the boss anyway, crybaby" Yoongi says, running out of ideas. He does stop swinging his feet but it’s definitely because he wants to and not because they’ve entered tattle telling territory and Yoongi now has to tread lightly.

Yoongi is well aware that that wasn't a very nice comment to make but maybe it's because he's bored and tired of sitting still and in some cause and effect way it's Minnie's fault he even has to sit here in this itchy suit in the first place so he doesn't care. Besides it's not like he's lying or something. Minnie doesn't talk like a big kid yet so how could he even be the boss of any one.

"I not baby! I talk big grown up! I tell Appa you mean me!" Minnie says, pouting with red cheeks which means tears are probably near by.

"Well you better not get up, or you might ruin your costume and then you can't do your stupid dance" Yoongi fires a final shot and at that Minnie bursts into tears, kicking his feet in anger because he doesn’t want to ruin his costume and because his dance is most definitely not stupid!

" you 'tupid meanie!" He yells through his tears, reaching over Tae to land a few hits on Yoongi who flinches despite the hits not hurting even a little bit. Yoongi can’t hide his giggles at how silly he looks trying to fight him in his costume.

"That doesn't hurt anyway and your still gonna ruin your costume" he says with a smug smile and at that Minnie scrambles and crawls completely over Tae, smushing him into the couch, his tutu covering Tae’s entire body, feathers flying about as he tries to scratch out Yoongi's eyes.

Yoongi screams out for help because Tae is being squashed and because he doesn't want his hair to get ruined and definitely not because Minnie is a lot stronger than he remembers him being and surely not because the hits and scratches are starting to hurt. Daddy rushes in, with a wide-eyed Jungkookie on one arm, his little white shirt halfway on and tries to pry Minnie off with his other hand while Jungkookie holds onto the other for dear life.

"Hey! Hey! What is going on in here?" Daddy asks, finally managing to pull Minnie up, holding him high enough off the ground that his feet don't touch. Minnie’s still kicking and swinging, trying to break free as more tears fall down his face and Yoongi does feel a little bit bad for making him so upset but as far as he’s concerned it just shows that Minnie is still a baby and thus not fit for being in charge.

"He didn't say hyung to me and he called me stupid!" Yoongi says, finally sitting up straight, brushing the wrinkles and feathers off his suit. He omits all the other parts though, leaving only the important stuff. He wasn't lying. Daddy doesn't look convinced as he sighs, putting Jungkook down in between Tae and Yoongi.

"Don't let him fall" he says to Yoongi as he turns Minnie around, holding him properly and asking him what happened. Minnie is all tears and snot, pointing a finger at Yoongi as he tries to get his words out. It's all jumbled and Daddy nods and says okay but Yoongi can tell he has no idea what's actually being said. He's glad Minnie doesn't talk properly yet. Once Minnie's dramatic spiel is over daddy rocks him, patting his back and letting him lay his head on his shoulder. He always takes the little kids' side first and then later when it's just him and Yoongi they talk it through. There's really nothing to talk through though, Yoongi thinks with a scowl.

Jungkook is surprisingly calm and quiet, clumsily trying to pick up a loose feather from Tae's knee. It might be his first time holding a feather, Yoongi thinks somewhere distantly in his mind. He's never been anywhere to be able to touch one. Daddy asks Tae what happened but he just shrugs his shoulders, distracted with trying to get jungkook to put his other chubby little arm through his shirt. Yoongi briefly wonders if Tae knows about his autism or even cares but the thought is washed out by Appa and Hobi finally coming into the room.

Appa looks sweaty and winded as he carries Hobi in on his hip. Hobi's face is red and wet from tears and snot too as he sniffles, clinging on to Appa. He's in his suit, which Yoongi suspects is the cause for all the tears. His hair isn't styled at all but Appa tries to run his fingers through it, making it look a tiny bit neater. Hobi is also just like a baby, Yoongi thinks. He's nicer than Minnie though so Yoongi would let him be in charge if he had to pick someone aside from Daddy, Appa, or himself.

"Joon, why isn't Jungkookie dressed yet? And why is Minnie all snotty?" Appa asks, looking around the room at the others. Daddy barely gets his mouth open to explain and Appa is speaking again. "You know what, don't even bother answering that. Let's just get everyone ready now. We might still make it in time"

Appa rushes to grab Jungkook's pants which look like a miniature version of Yoongi and Hobi’s and he squats in front of Tae, helping him get Jungkook's arm into his shirt while somehow still holding Hobi in his lap. Appa's like a superhero, Yoongi thinks. Daddy looks like he wants to help but he doesn't want to get in Appa's way and Yoongi knows the feeling all too well.

"Thank you for helping get Kookie dressed, Tae." Appa says, petting a hand over Tae's head. He slips Jungkook's pants onto him in just a few seconds with minimal fussing and uses his fingers to flatten out some of his dark curly hair and then groans as he gets back into a standing position, putting Hobi back onto his hip.

"Alright, everyone just stay calm and still while me and Daddy get dressed, okay? Yoongi, hold your brother for a second " and Yoongi thinks he means to hold Jungkookie but he blinks and suddenly he's got a lap full of Hobi who seems content enough to not fuss as Appa heads into his room.

Daddy tries to put Minnie down with same speed and finesse but Minnie makes it clear that he doesn't want to be put down so he ends up taking him into the room with them. Yoongi hopes Minnie doesn't decide to tell what actually happened, now that he’s not crying anymore.

Tae seems to be enamored with Jungkookie, petting and hugging him with a look of awe in his eyes and Jungkookie doesn't seem to mind, still occupied by the feathers. Hobi is still sniffing every now and then but is overall calm. Still, Yoongi feels bad for him.

"We have the same suit, Hobi" Yoongi says, softly. Hobi looks at his own suit and then Yoongi's and smiles, reaching up to touch Yoongi's hair. Yoongi stops him, not wanting him to make a mess of his hair.

"I don't wanna wear it" Hobi admits sounding so sad, Yoongi wishes he didn't have to but then he gets an idea. Appa wouldn't be able to make him wear it if it was ruined, Yoongi thinks. Hair gel would be perfect for the job.

"Hobi, do you want your hair like mine?" Yoongi asks and of course Hobi nods, a pout still on his face. Hobi will make this easy, he thinks.

"Go into the bathroom and put some hair gel on your head and do it like mine. You have to use a super whole lot " Yoongi says smiling, motioning with his hands and Hobi looks excited at the idea, nodding at Yoongi's instructions.

Hobi runs into the bathroom, doing as told. He's out of view from where Yoongi is sitting but he can hear the step stool scooting across the floor and some combs and things falling.

Yoongi should have told him to hurry before Daddy and Appa come back because moments later Appa comes out of the room in a suit that makes him look like a principal or the president or someone important like that and Minnie on his hip.

"Okay, everyone let's-" and then Hobi comes running in and boy was Yoongi's plan successful. A bit too successful as it looks like Hobi had shrunken himself down and swam in the hair gel. The only problem now is that look on Appa's face when he spots him. He looks like he's seen a ghost and his gasp sounds like it too. Hobi seems to immediately realize he's made a mistake and his bottom lip starts to quiver as appa just stands there in shock.

"Your suit!" Is all appa can say, his voice pinched and winded as he puts Minnie down and rushes over to Hobi who somehow only just then realizes that he's covered in globs of hair gel.

"Why did you do that, Hoseok-ah? Who told-" and Hobi points right at Yoongi and bursts into loud tears, that startle Jungkookie and Tae, the two of them previously completely unaware of what was going on outside of the tiny pile of feathers they've collected together.

"Yoongi! What happened? I asked you to hold him!" Appa's voice booms in Yoongi's direction and this time it's him that startles. This isn't how this was supposed to go, Yoongi thinks. Appa's not supposed to get angry. Yoongi's heart skips a beat as appa steps closer to him, his face red and crumpled with some expression that Yoongi hasn't seen before.

"Yoongi, why did you let him get into the hair gel?" Appa's voice booms asks and Yoongi wishes it was one of those questions that he didn't have to answer but he could tell it was a real question that should have a real answer. He doesn't know what to say and Hobi is still screaming and crying so loudly that Yoongi's ears are buzzing and his suit is still super itchy and he's still not allowed to get up and everything is just too much.

Yoongi covers his ears with his hands, turning away from Appa because he doesn't like the face he's making at him but that might've been his biggest mistake yet, because Appa comes storming into the space in front of him and just as he's about to call out Yoongi's name again daddy steps in.

He's also wearing a stupid suit, Yoongi thinks but he makes it look cool, not that it matters right now. Daddy takes in the scene, Hobi sobbing and covered in hair gel, Appa one step away from unleashing his wrath on Yoongi and whatever else has gotten him to this point, Tae using his hands to shield Jungkook's ears from the ruckus, Yoongi sitting there covering his ears and face, and Minnie looking seconds away from tears.

"It's not his fault!" daddy says, voice steady but loud enough to cut through all the noise and Yoongi should find comfort and reassurance in the words but instead it feels like they've been thrown at him like ninja stars, sharp and painful.

It's actually all Yoongi's fault, he realizes. It's his fault Minnie is upset on his big night and it's his fault Hobi is a mess and it's his fault appa is so angry and it's his fault Tae has to cover jungkookies ears to keep him from crying and it's his fault they might miss jimin's dance thingy.

Yoongi runs into daddy's arms because it's the safest place he can think of and daddy is there, holding him together with strong arms and pats on his back. He hates that he's crying now and especially hates that all his baby siblings are watching him and most of all he hates that everything is all his fault.

“It’s not his fault, Seokjin.” Daddy repeats a bit quieter and Appa doesn't say anything, just leads a still crying Hobi into the bathroom and starts up a bath. Yoongi doesn't let Daddy put him down, much like Jimin's behavior earlier. Instead Daddy sits on the couch with him, letting him hide his face in his collar. Daddy’s stupid suit digs into Yoongi’s forehead, but he ignores it.

Appa doesn't even say nice words to Hobi to make him stop crying, the way he usually does. He can tell because Hobi is still crying loudly, choking on his sobs from the bathroom. Guilt churns so heavily in Yoongi's tummy that he thinks he might actually be sick. Minnie taps Daddy on the shoulder, his eyes watery with tears as he asks in a small, shaky voice if he's still going to dance.

Daddy says "yes, of course, angel! Hobi's almost ready." And Minnie doesn't look convinced but at least it's enough to keep his tears at bay. Daddy rocks Yoongi, still patting his back as he mumbles to no one in particular about how good Tae is at keeping jungkook quiet. Yoongi peeks out from his hiding spot and sees that Jungkook has somehow managed to crawl on top of Tae, poking and pulling at his eyes, nose, and lips curiously. Tae is just smiling, always happy to be near any of his siblings. He's a good big brother, Yoongi thinks, his chest burning with guilt and disappointment in himself.

He knows saying sorry to everyone will make him feel better but he doesn't want to do that right now so he just stays put on daddy's shoulder, being rocked.

A long time later Appa and Hobi reappear together, Hobi layed over his shoulder, sniffling so hard that his entire body shakes with each one. Appa tells everyone it's time to go but his voice sounds flat, still a little angry and disappointed.

Daddy has to put Yoongi down so that he can grab Jungkookie and they all head outside piling into the car in silence except for Hobi’s sniffles and Jungkookie’s babbling.

The drive to the recital is quiet too. Daddy tries to put on music but Appa turns it off saying something about it making Minnie forget his song and dance.

By the time they arrive the recital has already started and the dance teacher rushes over, all sweaty and out of breath and takes Minnie's hand, whisking him away in a flurry of feathers and glitter. Tae runs off behind them, always going backstage for recitals and Minnie pulls the dance teacher back a bit, reaching out a hand for Tae to grab onto.

A hostess lets them know that their seats have been reserved and they all follow Daddy inside, Yoongi ending up sitting between him and Appa and Hobi sits on the other side of Appa who’s holding Jungkookie. He's now wearing some soft black pants and a snoopy t-shirt so Yoongi supposes his plan was at least somewhat effective but not enough to be used ever again, for sure.

The cheery piano song ends and the group of ballerinas on stage bow and exit. They're all girls, definitely older than Minnie and Tae. The dance teacher steps on stage announcing the next act which is another group of girls who look to be around Yoongi's age. He thinks he even recognizes one of them from his basketball team. Yoongi can't imagine playing basketball and dancing. Surely it'd be exhausting, he thinks.

The recital is pretty boring, in Yoongi's opinion and Minnie and Tae haven't even been on stage yet. He likes the piano music and sometimes the dancers do cool flips and spins but it's mostly boring. Yoongi zones in and out throughout the whole show until finally the dance teacher announces that the next and final act will be staring Jimin. Daddy and Appa clap and cheer louder than everyone else and Daddy takes out his phone, pulling up the camera.

The room goes dark for a moment and then one spotlight comes on and it's pointing down at Minnie. Yoongi has to strain his neck to see him above all the grownups heads in front of him but when he does, Yoongi thinks he looks like a real life angel.

He's in the same costume but now he's wearing a huge pair of white wings and he's holding two long white cloths that flutter in the draft that's moving across the stage. The bright spotlight makes all the glitter and sequins shine and glimmer, flashing little specs of rainbow colors into the audience and all over Minnie's hair and face is glitter and little shiny diamonds.

Yoongi now knows why Daddy calls Minnie angel all the time. The piano music starts up and Minnie dances and prances all across the stage, making funny faces on some parts but the grownups don't laugh so neither does Yoongi. He's not sure he'd be able to tell anyway but Yoongi's pretty sure he dances perfectly, not missing a single move, which he can admit it is impressive.

Towards the end of his dance the other ballerinas join in, fluttering around in organized lines and groups. There are a lot of them, a mix of boys and girls and Yoongi thinks it's awesome that out of all of these other kids Minnie was picked as the star of the show. He feels proud, especially as the dance ends and the audience erupts into an explosion of applauses, whistles, and shouts.

Both Daddy and Appa are crying and so are some other grownups in the crowd. Minnie is like a celebrity as the dance teacher leads him and Tae to where Appa and Daddy are standing, now waiting in the pickup area. Grownups keep stopping them to tell Minnie how well he danced and how pretty he looks and Minnie just smiles brightly, holding tight to Tae's hand.

The dance teacher finally makes it over to them and hugs Appa and Daddy congratulating them and saying how proud she is of Minnie and Tae. She tells them that they have a grand star on their hands and then starts talking about the next dance practice and other stuff that Yoongi tunes out.

Yoongi should apologize to Minnie for what he said earlier but he just can't find the space and time to do it. Right here doesn't seem right, he thinks as a small group of older ballerinas approach Minnie, squealing and telling him how cute he is and how well he danced. One of them says that they couldn't even memorize that dance because it was too complicated and Yoongi wonders if they're just saying that to be nice or if it's the truth. Minnie tells them that “Tae Tae can do too!” And they all coo at him. Tae looks shy as he smiles brightly beside Minnie. Yoongi wants to tell him how cool his dance was too, but he figures he should apologize first. He's gonna need daddy's help for this one, he thinks.

Later into the night when everyone is settled in bed, Daddy and Appa make their rounds for good night kisses. Appa hugs Yoongi tight and kisses his forehead and tells him that he loves him and wishes him good night. It's the same as every other night except Yoongi still feels guilty about making Minnie cry and making Hobi ruin his suit. He knows how important it was for appa to see them all dressed up together and he ruined it. Yoongi wants to apologize to appa too but he doesn't want to get in trouble if he reveals the real reason he told Hobi to get into the hair gel.

Daddy comes by a little later, dressed in soft pajamas, his hair all fluffy from the blow dryer and Yoongi just wants to be held by him so he crawls out of the covers and into Daddy's arms when he sits in the edge of his bed. Daddy doesn't say anything, just holds Yoongi tight and waits, letting him get his words together.

"It was all my fault, Daddy" Yoongi admits and he immediately feels a bit lighter despite the tears welling up in his eyes and the painful lump in his throat.

"I made Minnie cry and I told Hobi to get gel on his clothes" Yoongi cries, feeling lighter with each admission. Daddy shushes him and pats his back until he settles down and says that they'll talk about it in the morning after breakfast. He tells him that sometimes we all make mistakes and bad decisions but it doesn't make us a bad person and Yoongi believes him, always does.

~~~
Seokjin is in their shared bathroom trying to remove as much of the gel from hobis suit as possible. Namjoon can tell his mind is somewhere else though so he takes the suit from him, kissing his forehead, tenderly and then his cheek and then his lips. Seokjin leans into Namjoon's chest, his arms linking around his waist as he sighs into Namjoon's neck. Namjoon hugs him, rocking the two of them back and forth as he hums the song from Minnie's recital.
"Can you believe-" Seokjin starts, trying to pull the suit from Namjoon's hands but Namjoon doesn't allow it, tossing the suit onto the floor behind them and humming the song louder in Seokjin’s ear, turning them around a bit so that it's no longer in his view.
"What are yo-" Seokjin starts,
"I'll take it to dry cleaning tomorrow." Namjoon cuts in, and continues humming.
"It's hair gel, it's already permanently stained" Seokjin complains, trying to pull free from Namjoon's hold.
"I'll get him a new one" Namjoon rebuttals, holding seokjin closer
"But those were custom fit" Seokjin pushes.
"We still have their measurements" Namjoon pulls him closer.
"But that tailor retired three months ago" Seokjin pushes again
"We'll figure something out, my love" Namjoon clumsily twirls him, still humming the song and getting an eye roll.
"You always say that" Seokjin says, eyes cast down.
"And we always do" Namjoon kisses his temple.
"I just don't understand how-"
"Do you trust me?" Namjoon asks, letting Seokjin break free. He finally gives up on humming the tune.
"Of course I do," he says, without hesitation, hands reaching out to hold Namjoon's shoulders
"As your husband?" Namjoon asks, his hands finding seokjins waist, pulling him close again
"Yes" Seokjin answers, voice softer now
"As a father?" Namjoon kisses Seokjin’s forehead, making his eyelids flutter.
"Yes" Seokjin whispers, resting his head on Namjoon's shoulder.
"Then be quiet." Namjoon whispers. Seokjin starts to pull away again, already starting to fuss but Namjoon doesn't let him, just holds him close and shushes him much like he does with the children.
"Just be quiet. Be still. Just be here with me, okay? I've got you, I've got the kids and they have me. And you have me too, okay? I'm here for you to lean on as much as I am for them, so act like it, okay?"
Seokjins tears soak through Namjoon's shirt as his shoulders tremble. Namjoon kisses his temple, his ear, and his cheek and they just hold each other. Namjoon finishes humming the tune.
Later when they're finally in bed, legs tangled together, drifting close to sleep, Namjoon kisses the top of seokjins head and Seokjin hums, placing a kiss in the middle of Namjoon's chest.
"You know, I think Jungkookie might have a new favorite person" Namjoon whispers and Seokjin huffs out a tired chuckle, humming in agreement.
The next morning at breakfast, Yoongi barely speaks and hardly touches his food, keeping his head low. It takes everything in Seokjin to not scoop him up and hold him and tell him he's forgiven but he knows that everything Yoongi's feeling right now is a part of life. He needs to learn to work through these things by himself.
After the meal Seokjin makes his rounds, wiping each kids sticky hands and faces and lets them run off to play. He goes to grab Jungkookie but Namjoon cuts him off, pointing him over to Yoongi. Namjoon pulls Jungkook out of his high chair and wipes him up a bit and then he puts him in the room with the twins. Jungkook looks a little puzzled but he's too intrigued to fuss about having been put down. Both of the twins rush over excitedly, their little hands gently poking at him like he was the newest toy to their collection.
"Be gentle," Namjoon says and with that he heads back into the kitchen where Seokjin was sat at the table across from Yoongi, holding his hand.
Namjoon takes a seat next to Seokjin but he scoots Yoongi's chair closer to his. He doesn't want this to feel like it's the two of them against him. They were all in this together.
"Yoongi, is there something you want to tell us?" Seokjin asks, his thumb rubbing over Yoongi's fingers. And Yoongi is already in tears, apologies spilling from him in between cries.
Seokjin looks to Namjoon, silently asking him to lead the conversation. He never does well with these kinds of things. Namjoon rubs Seokjin’s back, for comfort and then holds Yoongi's other hand, squeezing lightly.
"Let's take some deep breaths, bud. It's gonna be okay. We'll talk about it and then go from there." Namjoon says, voice seeming to soothe Yoongi enough that he's able to breathe steadily. Seokjin grabs a tissue from what seems like thin air and wipes Yoongi's face, cleaning him up once again.
They start with the argument with Jiminie and Yoongi admits that he'd called him a crybaby and called his dance stupid but explains that he didn't really mean any of that stuff and that he just wanted Minnie to stop telling him what to do. They find out that he was feeling a bit crabby from having to sit still for so long but Namjoon makes it clear that that is not an excuse to be mean to people, especially his siblings.
Namjoon also explains to him that being the oldest does not make him the boss and that even if it did, being the boss doesn’t mean you can say such things. He says that Minnie was probably just trying to look out for him and Taehyung and that makes Yoongi cry even more in guilt. Namjoon tells him about setting good examples for his siblings and then they call Minnie in so that Yoongi can apologize.
Yoongi feels shameful and embarrassed as Minnie stands before him in his yellow duckie pajamas. He shouldn't have been so mean to him, even if he doesn't like being told what to do by him. He manages to stop crying enough to apologize properly but his voice sounds all stuffy and sad.
"I'm sorry I called you a crybaby and said you talk like a baby and I'm sorry I called your dance stupid and taught you that bad word and I'm sorry I made you late for your dance recital"
Jimin just stands there, looking at daddy and appa expectantly and they encourage him to share how he felt about all of that.
"Yoo'gi mean Minnie and not nice and be bad on Tae Tae" Yoongi doesn't really know what any of that means but he just apologizes again and then Minnie gives him a hug and tells him it's okay before he goes to back to play.
Appa stops him, making him come back and apologize for not using honorifics for Yoongi. Minnie apologizes without arguing and hugs Yoongi again and then runs off to play.
Then Yoongi has to explain why he'd told Hobi to ruin his suit with hair gel and Daddy explains again about being a good role model and how he'd abused his hyung privileges and taken advantage of Hobi and Yoongi feels so evil and dirty that he cries even more. He tells them that he just wanted Hobi to feel better and they tell him that he should’ve just talked about it with them. Yoongi doesn’t mention how sometimes he forgets that just talking about it is an option or that sometimes he just doesn’t want to talk.
He hasn't even realized how wrong he'd been to behave in that way. He understands why Appa had been so angry with him and Appa explains his disappointment with Yoongi for his behavior. Yoongi apologizes to hobi for tricking him and for making him get his suit dirty and Hobi accepts his apology as always which makes Yoongi feel even worse for acting that way toward him.
Yoongi gets a major cut to his allowance in order to pay for Hobi's suit. He gets his video game privileges revoked and he has to go to bed at 6 pm every night for a week. He feels angry with himself but he knows his punishment is well deserved and he definitely feels much better now that he’s admitted his guilt and apologized to everyone.
Daddy invites him to ride along to the dry cleaners with him after Yoongi has apologized to Appa and given him some kisses and cuddles. On the ride to the dry cleaners, Daddy tells him some stories about stuff he did as kid that got him into similar trouble and it eases Yoongi's heart a bit to know that he's not the only kid to ever behave that way. He tells Daddy that he doesn't like being mean or bad but sometimes he can't help it and Daddy tells him that he just has to learn from his mistakes and ask Appa and Daddy for help when he starts to feel that way. Yoongi tells Daddy that when he grows up he wants to be big and strong and smart and kind like him and Daddy tells him that he'll love him just the same no matter what he’s like as he grows up. Yoongi believes every word.
Thanks for reading and leaving comments! I love getting feedback and interactions from my readers. I wanted to try showing a bit more of Seokjin and Namjoon’s pov while still keeping it in 3rd person omniscient view.
