What matters the most

Summary:

Felicity forgot to give Tommy a hug... Tommy doesn't give a shit if he late for work. His bug needs her hug.

Notes:

Guess whoooos baaaaaack! Short and sweet fluff!

They never left my mind. I have another idea brewing, just taking some time to get out.

Tommy loves all his kids, but Felicity is Papa's girl 🥰🥰🥰

Yes, I changed what they call Tommy in this one. Dada was feeling off to me. So, as the writer I changed it. No big deal.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Felicity ran from her room just a little too late. "No, daddy, I forgot to give my papa a hug," the little girl said as Buck moved back to the front door, where his daughter stood, tears filling her eyes.

"Evie, put the bowls on the table for your brothers and sisters. Come here, Lissy. Let's go call Papa." Buck lifted her into his arms and went to sit outside on their front porch.

"Hello?" Tommy's voice floated through the phone.

"P-papa?" Felicity asked timidly.

"Lissy bug, what's the matter, sweetheart?" Tommy asked, so attuned to all his kids.

"I forgot to give you a hug, Papa."

Buck heard Tommy's deep breath and knew he was trying to push down the lump that had formed in his throat.

"I'm turning around, I'll be right there, bug," Tommy said, and Buck smiled. His husband would do anything for any one of his kids. Including making himself late because his precious baby girl didn't get a hug.

Tommy smiled as Evan's ringtone sounded through the truck's sync system. Quickly moving his finger, he answered. Hoping his husband had called to finish their conversation from earlier that morning.

"Hello?"

"P-papa?" Felicity's quiet voice came through his speakers.

"Lissy bug, what's the matter, sweetheart?" He asked, knowing his daughter was on the verge of tears.

"I forgot to give you a hug, Papa."

Tommy pulled off to the side of the road, not far from their house, and rested his head back against the seat. Taking a deep breath, he released it slowly to stave off his own tears.

"I'm turning around, I'll be right there, bug." Tommy flipped his turn signal on and turned the truck back towards the house. The call disconnected just as Tommy pulled back into their driveway, and Felicity ran up to his door.

Tommy jumped out and lifted the little girl into his arms. Holding her tight. Her little arms wrapped around his neck just as tightly.

"I'm sorry, Papa." She whispered, and Tommy's brow furrowed.

"For what, sweetheart?" He asked softly.

"Forgetting to give you a hug." Tommy swallowed past the lump forming in his throat once again and squeezed his daughter.

"I'm sorry I forgot to give you a hug, baby," Tommy said, pulling back and kissing the little girl on her nose, making her giggle.

Tommy looked up and locked eyes with Evan, who stood back and watched the exchange with so much love on his face that it made Tommy want to stay home with his family all day.

Tommy adjusted Felicity in his arms and moved over to where Evan stood. "Hi," Tommy said, leaning in to give Evan a kiss.

"Hi. Wish you could stay,"

"Me too," Tommy sighed and moved Felicity over into Evan’s arms. “Okay. I have to go, I will see you tomorrow, okay?” Tommy asked her, and her eyes filled with sadness, but she still nodded her head, leaning in for another tight and quick hug. “I love you, bug. I’ll call before bedtime. I promise.”

“I love you, Papa. I’ll miss you,”

Tommy closed his eyes, and yeah, twist the knife, this was the hardest part of being a husband and father. The leaving, even if it was only for a 24-hour shift. “I’ll miss you more bug.”

“Alright, babe. Go, you’re going to be late. Love you,” Evan said and gave Tommy another quick kiss and a swat on his ass as he turned to walk away.

Tommy watched from his review mirror as his daughter and husband got smaller and smaller. These were the moments that meant the most.

Tommy didn’t know who needed that hug more, himself or Felicity. In the end, it didn’t matter. All Tommy wanted for his kids was for them to know their dads were always there. Even if it meant being late for an appointment or work.

Notes:

I know! I said I was done with this one... The Kinard 007 is not far from my mind 🤭

Truth is, I saw a reel on Instagram and it made me thing of Tommy and Felicity and this is what I had to get out.
