Chapter 1: Beginnings & Pancakes
Chapter Text
Wake up, pray, train to avenge their deaths
This was the first thing that came to Giselle’s mind when she woke up; it had been since her parents broke the news to her one day that vampires killed Gerard and Mikey. Since that day, she has made it her life mission to train hard every day so that if she ever meets the vampires that killed them, she can return the favor.
When she opened her eyes, she looked over to her alarm clock to see what the time was:
0630 am
Perfect
She always woke up early to get her morning prayers in before going downstairs for breakfast. She got up from her bed, turned around, and made it look nice and tidy. She walked up to her vanity, smiling at the photo of her and her brothers from her 13th birthday; she was now 19. Gerard and Mikey had her sandwiched into a hug while the three of them appeared to be laughing. She gripped her cross necklace as she looked up to the ceiling.
Father, I know you know what’s best for my brothers, and I know you’re keeping them safe. I hope I’m making them proud by training to defeat the unholy creatures that took them from me.
She let go of the cross and looked into the mirror to start to get ready for the day. She simply pulled her golden blonde hair back into a loose ponytail away from her pale complexion. Being as pale as she was had its advantages, including being able to blend in with other vampires at night on missions where she needed to sneak around.
She kneeled in front of her bed and clasped her hands together before bowing her head and closing her eyes.
Father, thank you again for giving me the strength to wake up well physically and mentally and for keeping me safe through the night. I ask that you bless me on the glorious day and keep those close to me safe. I trust that you know what is right for me and my family.
Glory be to your name, Amen
She opened her eyes and stood up from the ground before putting on a pair of jeans and a shirt with the logo of the church and heading downstairs. She could smell the delicious smells of pancakes and bacon as she descended the staircase.
“Giselle! Break- oh, there you are, sweetheart,” Her mother smiled brightly as her daughter came into her view.
“Good morning, Mom. It smells wonderful in here. Thank you for making breakfast. Where’s dad?” Giselle furrowed her eyebrows as she scanned the room looking for him.
“He’s at a meeting at the church, I’m sure he will be back in a few hours.”
Giselle nodded before sitting down at the table where her mother set down a plate of pancakes and bacon, the hot steam radiating from the pancakes. A cup of coffee along with syrup were also set down on the table in front of her, Giselle didn’t know what she would do without her family.
“Would you mind leading prayer darling?” Her mother spoke as she sat down, Giselle nodded in return before the two ladies took each other’s hands and bowed their heads closing their eyes.
“Dear Father, I ask that you bless this food made by the most loving mother I’ve ever known and to keep us safe during this day. We keep you close to our hearts and are eternally grateful for everything you have provided for us in this life and in every life before. In your name we pray, Amen,” Giselle finished her prayer and lifted up her head.
“Wonderful prayer as always Giselle,” Her mother smiled as she began eating. Giselle had been used to being called her full name since her brothers died, they were really the only ones that has shortened nicknames of her name, not that she could really remember what they were.
“Thanks Mom,” Giselle smiled in return before taking a bite of her pancakes, she hummed softly at how buttery and fluffy they were, “Really good pancakes as always.”
Chapter Text
It had been about five years since Gerard and Mikey had to leave home in the middle of the night, leaving their little sister behind. They didn’t want to leave her; they wanted to take her with them, but she was in too deep with the teachings of the church, and their father threatened to kill them if they didn’t leave.
For the first year, the two brothers just had each other to survive life in the night. Between trying to find blood without killing humans and avoiding hunters, it was anxiety-inducing. Eventually, they found two other vampires whom they now considered their closest friends: Ray, an experienced vampire of a few decades, and Frank, a relatively new vampire who had been turned just a year or two prior. Frank and Ray took them in and taught them the ways of the night, Ray being the more serious and helpful of the two.
“We return with tidings of blood and fun!” Frank, the shorter of the two more experienced vampires with short jet black hair and a shit-eating grin, loudly announced his entrance to the Way brothers, who had stayed behind in the loft that the four of them share.
Gerard shook his head with a small smile as Mikey rolled his eyes. Frank was like the annoying little brother they never wanted, reminding them of Giselle when the three of them were younger and she was showing small signs of rebellion.
The four friends sat together, and Gerard furrowed his eyebrows, looking at the supply of blood that Frank and Ray had managed to get.
“Where and how did you guys get this much?”
“Don’t worry about it,” Frank shrugged, and Gerard groaned in return.
“I am worried about it, Frank, that’s the point. What if we get caught?”
“We won’t get caught, you have to stop stressing out,” Ray tried to ease the situation, and that caused Gerard and Mikey to look at each other in distress.
“We could get caught, that’s his point. Have you forgotten the family we come from? That whole community?” Mikey spoke up.
“Yeah, yeah. Your parents are vampire hunters, we got it,” Frank lazily waved his hand like it wasn’t a huge deal.
“No, you don’t understand,” Gerard shook his head as he leaned forward, “Our parents are elders at the Temple of Gracious Light. Our little sister is basically their prodigy, we don’t know exactly how strong she is, but I’m sure they’ve been training her well both physically and-”
“Spiritually,” Mikey finished, “They’re basically a religious cult that kills vampires and creates lies about vampires. It’s fucking insane.”
“That’s why you were so terrified about being seen in town,” Ray nodded to himself as he was connecting the dots in his head.
“A religious white girl?” Frank raised an eyebrow, “She can’t be that scary,” He scoffed before taking a drink of blood from one of the glasses on the table that he had now claimed.
“She was showing signs of being very good at combat at 12. She’s 19 now, so I don’t know,” Gerard shrugged, “I don’t even want to think about what kind of lies Dad has been feeding her. He told her when she turned 13 that he would begin her training to 'live according to the Lord’s plan.” He used air quotes before taking a drink from his glass.
“You, my friend, need to get out more,” Frank spoke up, pointing to Gerard after several moments of silence.
“Who, me? No, I’m good. I got you guys, the safety of this loft, and my sketches. I’m happy where I’m at,” Gerard tried to stand his ground, but Frank wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
“You’re deflecting. I know we’re vampires and shit, but I don’t remember the last time you went out with Ray and me,” He nudged the curly-haired man with a grin, “Come out with us tomorrow night. Let’s go have fun, let loose!” He flung his arms up in the air dramatically.
“Yeah, I’ll hold down the fort,” Mikey shrugged, which earned a smack in the shoulder from Gerard.
“You’re not helping.”
“He’s right. You really don’t go anywhere, not since we had to leave behind Ellie. Besides, I know Frank is going to take you to a club or something. What are the chances Mom and Dad will let her go to one?”
“Okay, okay, fine.” Gerard threw his hands up in the air as he gave up, “I will go out with you tomorrow-”
“Yes!” Frank pumped his fist in the air in celebration.
“Under one condition. If I see any hunters, I recognize we are gone, understood?”
“Yes, sir,” He saluted before Gerard rolled his eyes.
There was some small part of Gerard that hoped Giselle would be there, maybe he could see his baby sister again, even if for a brief moment.

Chapter Text
Today was finally the day, it was the night that Giselle was allowed to go on a hunting mission by herself. She had been waiting for this day since her brothers had died (or at least so she thought).
She had seen enough vampires in the last few years that she did her makeup to make herself look a little more dead and put on ripped jeans and a leather jacket to blend in more since she was going to a local nightclub.
She went downstairs to meet her parents before she left and to grab a few weapons to hide in her small bag, a couple stakes and her knife.
“Ellie,” Her mother sighed, “I don’t know if you should go by yourself. It’s dangerous and what if you’re not ready-”
“But I am ready mom, I’ve been working towards this for the last five years with Dad. Please, for Gee and Mikey….” She looked at her with her big hazel eyes and pursed her bottom lip to really bring it home.
Her mother looked over to her father with a sigh and he nodded, “I think she is ready. She’s been working hard and has shown a lot of progress. I can see a lot of the boys in her and they were close to being ready. They showed a lot of strength as she does, she uses weapons incredibly well and can move pretty fast out of the way.”
“Alright, alright. Go ahead and go honey,” Giselle did a small celebration but her Mom stopped her, “But I want you out of there and home if it gets too scary. Alright?”
“Yes Mom, I’ll be careful. I promise,” She vowed as she gathered the weapons she was bringing and put them in her bag. Both of her parents gave her a small kiss on her forehead before she headed out into the night.

Gerard’s POV
“Do we have to go? What if we get caught or worse… What if she’s there?” Gerard started to anxiously ramble about the possibilities of worst case scenarios.
“Yes, we are going and it’ll be fine. You worry too much Gee,” Frank rolled his eyes slightly as he watched Gerard put on a jacket.
“I’m just saying! You don’t know these hunters like Mikes and I do, we grew up with them,” He muttered as he defended himself.
“Yeah, yeah. They’re dangerous and your baby sister who won’t be there because she’s a church girl is highly trained in combat and killing vampires. I got it,” He dramatically waved his hands in the air, “Now let’s go before I drag your ass out of here,” Frank threatened and Gerard groaned in return before following him out the door.
Giselle’s POV
As she approached the club she felt a sense of nervousness and doubt wash over her, she felt self doubt.
What if Mom was right? What if I’m not ready for this? What if I get turned into… one of them? I wouldn’t be able to ever go home, they would see me as a monster, a freak. Which I would be, I would never forgive myself for being too weak.
She shook her head as she tried to let go of these silly thoughts. She continued to walk forward and she fixed her posture before strutting towards the front entrance in her black heeled boots. The bouncer checked her ID before giving her a stamp and letting her in.
She went to the bar to get some water and leaned back against a wall to scope out the scene. She was disgusted at the amount of people dancing up on each other and grinding.
“Sinful,” She muttered to herself as she shook her head. After a few moments she took notice of a man approaching her with a grin, he looked to be around her age, maybe even the same age she couldn’t tell without speaking to him. He was shorter than her and had jet black hair with the sides of his head shaved.
“What’s a girl like you doing in a place like this?” His voice was like velvet to her, intriguing if anything. It was obvious he was flirting with her, she could see his fangs so she decided to play along with his game.
“Oh, you know, I wanted to get out of the house for a little while on this beautiful night.” She gave him a small smile as she tilted her head slightly, “I could ask you the same, there’s no way a guy like you is single.”
The man hung his head back as he laughed a little, “No, no. I’m very single, I just wanted to drag my hermit of a friend out for a night. He hasn’t been out of the house in like three days I think,” He nodded as he seemed to think about it.
“Well that was nice of you. I’m Giselle, what’s your name handsome?” She asked as she took a drink of her water.
“Frank,” He introduced himself as he inched closer to her, it was clear he was interested in more than a conversation with her.
“Why don’t you say we get out of here? Go somewhere a little quieter?” She suggested with a slight smirk on her face. Internally she felt disgusted with herself, this went against everything she believed in, but she knew it would be good for the hunt. She could end him and it would be her first kill by herself, even though he was kind of hot.
He chuckled a little before looking into her hazel eyes, “You read my mind, let’s get out of here.” He agreed before grabbing her hand that was free and slowly started to lead the way.
Giselle set down her cup before following him, he was falling right into her trap and she couldn’t believe it. Right before the two of them walked out the door she saw a familiar mop of dark hair before seeing the face it belonged to. It was like seeing a ghost, but it couldn’t be him.
Right?
