The air in the daily planet is so thick Lois could only cut it with heat vision. She pauses before reaching her desk with breakfast in her mouth.
"Is something happening?" Lois muses as she settles down beside Olsen and Cat.
Cat seems excited to tell her everything while Olsen wants nothing to do with it as he returns to his chair.
"Look at this, my article has done well and everyone is talking about it! Look look look!" Cat exclaims excitedly.
Lois hangs her mouth open at the title 'Lex Luthor on a date in Gotham', Cat managing to catch the donut from falling to the ground.
"Isn't it news of the century? Gotham's white knight rehabilitates Man of Tommorrow! With kisses and dates!" Cat squeals like a fangirl as if she wasn't trashing Luthor yesterday.
Yes Gotham white knight Bruce Wayne and Man of Tommorrow Lex Luthor is dating. How Cat get this information Lois didn't know but it's the first she's heard of it and there was no press conference nor announcement. She hands Lois back her donut and got back to her table to write her next exclusive.
But it didn't take long as Cat's article was published this morning, did the news cover it shortly after. The TV in the daily planet plays it and Jimmy, out of morbid curiousity, turns the volume up.
"... and I believe that everyone, deserves a second chance," there was no mistaking it, that is Bruce Wayne. It might be a Luthorcorp clone or an android they wouldn't know but would Luthor really be there if he was going something bad? Gotham is Batman's turf. Clark was going to have a word with him after work... he doesn't know that Bruce Wayne is Batman. He had x-ray vision but didn't want to invade anyone's privacy, if the heroes wanted secret identities then he was in no position to breach that level of trust by just standing next to him.
"So I'm officially announcing it before the gossip column's job gets too easy," he winks to the camera. "Me and Lex Luthor are officially dating and we are looking to last ooooh about a week or so," he jokes and the interviewer laughs.
"Well the good thing is you guys have already lasted longer than your previous relationship," the interviewer laughs. It seems like it was the end of the interview.
Bruce Wayne last fling lasted about two months before it flopped, no one knew who she was but people had managed to snag a photo at a gala once but after that she was gone the next day. Either they were being very subtle or it lasted that night but Bruce confirms that she had been with him in private events before breaking it off to be with her family.
Shortly after Luthor didn't return to the LuthorCorp tower when he was supposed to. Superman had been keeping an eye on him of course, he was just released out of prison on parole after all.
It's been months yet there was still no news from Luthor. Superman has been busy fighting intergalactic demons with the justice league, not gang as he doesn't feel comfortable working for some big corporate name when they could be serving the people instead. He was getting worried when Diana suggested that maybe he took a very long vacation and told him not to worry about it.
Guy and the others might not share the sentiment but they will come around sooner or later. They did help him after all despite them trying to keep the company's reputation in tact.
Thankfully he has the support of multiple heroes. Batman who had helped them during the monkey invasion but didn't want to join, yet he funds for their headquarters. Diana who is a lot similar to him except new to the world of man, he has a little bit of a protective feeling over her, like he has for Kara. Then there is a new green lantern, Hal, Flash and Martian Manhunter.
Everything should be going swimmingly, great. But why... why is this so hard for him to swallow? He should be happy that Lex is finding love and seemingly settled down... with a kid...
Clark would have burned through the newspaper if he hadn't had his glasses on. The pictures of Conner... Lex and Bruce's new ward... he looks a lot like Bruce...
It is no secret that Luthorcorp has been working on a way for same-sex couples to have children, now that Luthorcorp has made this break through, the support for the rehabilitation of its CEO have skyrocketed. With him and Bruce Wayne being an item more people are inclined to believe that he is doing this for the people because it is transparent in benefiting him too.
Clark half expects a blog about Lex calling Superman homophobic or whatever but it doesn't come. And he looks... happy.
Lois looks at everyone and everyone seem to look at her like she can do something about the storm clouds pouring over Clark.
Lois sighs, she can tell that this is going to be a long work day.
Lex is scrolling through his phone when an arm snakes his way around his waist.
"Still worried?" Bruce asks with a sigh, sleepily burying his face into Lex's neck.
"The internet can be fickle... there are a lot of bad people out there who wants to see us fall... no matter how much confidence we have that this won't fail..." Lex mutters.
"Well none of them are really a threat, the justice league will handle anything we can't take," Bruce hums. "Now that's enough internet for one day, you need to practice playing mobile City Fighter, it will be embarrassing for you to lose against Conner."
"I have work," Lex snorts.
"Lame," Bruce grumbles as he pulls Lex closer to him. "You are staying here, live out the rest of your maternity leave and relax."
"Speak for yourself... what time did you come home yesterday?" Lex frowns, turning around to give him a stern face. Bruce however isn't intimidated and grins sheepishly.
"Dick needed help with Bane-"
"What about the Raptors?" Lex frowns.
"Well they are great! It's just that- Bane is a little bit difficult."
"I can't believe you- you're not hurt are you?" Lex asks, checking his eye for any sign of concussion.
"Naw, I had the mech bat suit as a contingency against him... he had a more powerful version of venom but we managed to out smart him."
"Hmph if he touches a hair on Grayson I will send him into the phantom zone," Lex grumbles.
Bruce grins as if finding all of this amusing. "You called it the Phantom Zone? Sounds like something from one of the shows Conner watches."
"Shut up," Lex grumbles as Bruce rubs soothing circles onto Lex's back. His expression which is earlier playful, falls a little as if there is something wrong with this pretty picture he painted with his own hands.
