Chapter Text

Getting sick was easily one of the worst things in the world. Sore throat, blocked nose when you’re trying to sleep, countless coughing fits, mushrooms literally growing on your head, thinking you have snakes for arms. However, being sick for almost a week and a half was not fun at all. According to the Healing coven, It was normal for witches to be sick for around four days. Unfortunately, being human meant that your body recovered differently and much slower than expected.

But thanks to some herbal tea gifted graciously by the head of the Plant coven, you were back to normal in no time! “If it weren’t for me,” Terra Snapdragon had said as she poured your daily dose, “you would’ve been stuck in bed for months. Or even longer than that.”

Though, there was one downside to your treatments. It gave you the worst headaches imaginable whenever you tried to recall what happened prior to getting sick. Like a weird mental block that stopped you from remembering certain details.

Which was currently what you were trying to do while getting ready in your room. A misty thought occurred in your head as you adjusted the sleeves of your silver armour. “Was I looking for someone…” You bit your lip, moving to throw on your ivory robe. “Or was someone looking for me?”

That particular thought lingered as you stepped up to your mirror by your wardrobe, lifting a finger to wipe the sleep from your eyes. “Wait… were they important?” You muttered to your reflection, a slight frown lining your lips. Sensing another headache coming, you swiftly grabbed your mug off your desk and brought it to your lips, the calming allure of chamomile mixed with pomegranates hitting your nose as you drank.

The headache quickly subsided, along with whatever you were thinking about just now. A soft sigh was let out from you as you looked back at yourself, your face looking much more relaxed. “Mmm… if I forgot then it probably wasn’t important to begin with.” You reasoned with a smile, setting down your mug back on your desk.

Terra’s tea worked wonders for you, it's no wonder she tells you to drink it every day.

Your private moment was interrupted by a couple of sharp knocks on your door, which meant it was time to go about your duties as the Silver Guard of the Emperors Coven.

You promptly picked up your silver mask and used it to conceal your face as you headed towards the door. It was under Emperor Belos’ order that your identity as a human remain a secret. “Your position is one of a kind.” He told you. “Others would resent you if they found out that a human of all people, holds a stature of such importance.”

And you were perfectly okay with it. Emperor Belos had saved your life after all. He had found you whilst you were suffering from terrible amnesia, given you a home, and a special title of your own. The Emperors Coven wasn’t just a coven, it was yours to call home with the people met after being found.

Only a select few of people knew your identity. That being Emperor Belos (of course), certain coven heads, and–

“Hunter!” The ashy blonde teen perked up after being addressed, his back was slightly turned towards you as if he was about to walk away. He quickly cleared his throat before swivelling to face you fully, a small smile making its way onto his lips. “[Name]! I’m glad to see you recovered. Belos told me that you got really sick after the Owl lady’s attempted petrification.”

A soft hum left your lips as you removed your guard mask, holding it against your hip as you nodded. “Yeah, who knew being a human and getting sick in the Boiling Isles meant I was immobile for a week and a half.”

“It’s not contagious, is it?” Hunter asked, his smile shifting into a slight smirk as he tilted his head. “I wouldn’t wanna turn into a walking mushroom.”

His comment made you roll your eyes before using your free hand to ruffle his blonde locks. “Don’t believe everything Darius tells you, kid.” That caused him to let out a snicker as he tried to swat away your hand but to no avail. You kept messing up his hair for a good 15 seconds before stopping, causing him to pull away and stick his tongue out at you.

It was your turn to laugh at his gesture before shaking your head. “So, did you have something important to tell me or did you just miss me that much?” You asked with a grin of your own as the tips of his ears begin to turn red.

“It’s not that! Maybe a little…” He muttered that under his breath before continuing. “But Emperor Belos wanted me to let you know that he needs you downstairs.” He finished off in his Golden Guard voice, sounding super mature for someone his age. It always made you wonder why Hunter was never enrolled in school, he would fit in perfectly with his scrawny figure.

The thought of someone needing you popped up in your head again, perhaps it was Belos all along who was the person that need you. Which made sense since he was quite important to you.

You nodded at the newfound knowledge, bringing your mask up to your face before strapping it back on along with the ivory hood that helped conceal your identity. “And are you off anywhere today?”

Hunter puffed out his chest as he crossed his arms, the smirk returning to his face as he closed his eyes. “As a matter of fact, I am. Belos entrusted me to hunt for something called the Selkidomus. And I get to be Captain of the ship.”

A snicker left your lips at how proud he looked when he was explaining his task. Normally you handled the bigger jobs so it was nice to see Hunter take them on for a change. But that made you question what the Emperor wanted to see you for.

“I have no idea what a Selkidomus is, but just try not to drown at sea, okay?” You continued to snicker before messing up his hair for the second time to which he grumbled as he moved away from you. Taking that as your cue to leave, you closed the door to your room and started heading towards the exit of the staff quarters.

The last thing you heard was Hunter shouting back at you that he can swim and that he was an excellent swimmer. You’ll believe it when you see it.
